00126 the work session meeting minutes okay second mr water seconds miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr botters yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero okay governing board report does anybody have anything but today can we start sure okay so i attended the welcoming back day that we had before it was right before school um the baskets were beautiful and chad and kenny did a really great job with the audience in regards to keeping them positive and motivated and heather of course did a great job she was talking about a book and a leadership book that she's been reading and i just feel like she was very genuine and she was able to really get the staff to understand what she was wanting for the next school

002year and she talked about three things and i feel like we as a board should probably concentrate on those things and her top three was academic excellence the student wellness and community and so i just wanted to welcome everyone and here's to looking to a great year and i just felt like it was a great day i think everyone had a really good time at the welcoming back thank you okay anybody else have anything heavy no no i do um so yesterday i was honored to walk deserves to campus and miss preston i finally had a chance to meet with her one-on-one and we had great discussion and and i'm excited to see what the year brings for you and the staff and it was nice to see that some of the teachers that have

003left the district we have back on campus which is nice and um it was nice and quiet no sixth graders were there so it was really quiet the campus we don't say that and so some of the classes are still a little small but as i was there there was five students enrolling so enrollment is still going up and i'm sure that it's going to continue until after labor day but i just wanted to say thank you mr president for for spending time with me and i also would like to welcome back the staff and i'm excited for the year and to see what it's what's going to be like thank you okay superintendents report as well good evening i just want to mention that we have we've had a great couple of weeks of

004school we've been in school now for about two weeks and between the facilities department the technology department food services building and grounds the district office everybody's been pulling together to really help the sites and the sites have just done a wonderful job with kids and it's just a good feeling when you're out there walking around and talking to people so i appreciate all the hard work from the administrators the teachers and all those department people so thank you okay okay public comments speakers are asked to limit their comments or presentations to three minutes so that everyone who wishes to speak will have the opportunity ars 38-431.02 prohibits the governing board from discussing items which are not on the agenda if the item you are addressing is not on the agenda please do not expect the

005board to answer questions or discuss the issue with you first up we have phil todd superintendent wallace madam president board members i want to talk about what i did i think it was last fall i think last october and november this is in relation to item 4.1 of tonight's agenda i was lucky enough to be selected and i went to goodyear for a very large meeting on drug prevention and this was headed up by paul gozar kerry lake was there sheriff lamb was there two other county sheriffs the chief of police of buckeye the mayor of buckeye and the head of schooling and buckeye and they talked about all the drugs and of course some of us have heard sheriff lamb talk about what happens in pinal county when you talk to people in a

006in a city and we have the opportunity here tonight to talk uh hear from the chief of police of apache junction i was so impressed with the way the city of buckeye from the chief of police to the head of the school to the mayor had such a very detailed drug prevention program and i had an opportunity to talk to at the time president kimball about that and i encourage you to talk to those people if you have any questions and we're going to hear a lot tonight it's just an amazing thing however it doesn't really set in until you are sitting there and they bring a mother up and let her talk how she lost her child you have another person come up and how she lost her sister we don't hear about that

007in apache junction whether it happens or not we're going to probably find out tonight but all i can tell you when you have to go as a member of the school board and give your thoughts and feelings looking at someone in a casket you may think about what we have have done and what we have not done to try to stop this drug stuff how do we get the message to the parents if we have three thousand students in this school system what are we looking at you know eighteen hundred two thousand parents times two if they're lucky to have two children how do we stop the use of this drug how do we get it the kids if you don't know that it came out of a wrapper or a box if you understand

008then you don't take those pills i had an opportunity to meet the chief just a few minutes ago and i heard him talk to the superintendent apparently he's got a video [Music] how we get that out to the people it's just going to be so important and i know that you approved the minutes i don't go on the internet to read the minutes of your previous meetings work sessions and whatever else but i don't i don't know what you're going to do i don't i was hoping you'd do the video of tonight here but i guess that's not going to happen so it's a previous video but you know i i go to the pineal county supervisors meetings and i end up [Music] watching it on tv so i want you to encourage to possibly

009use video thank you thank you raymond cunningham adam superintendent madam president and other members of the board my comments tonight are going to primarily address item 5.6 the approval of the arizona school board association political agenda first of all i'm focusing on roman numeral 4.2 advocating the repeal of all programs related to giving public funds to private schools this goes completely against the trend in the united states today and most recently arizona passed nation-leading legislation to expand pre-choice and education to parents it was a marvelous achievement and it was fought long and hard and this was approved by voters through their representatives and the legislature and in the executive branch and it's i think condescending and offensive for the school board association to try to add reversible to advocate repealing efforts made by reasonable people

010through the legitimate process under the constitution and arizona laws and regulations i think it's even toxic that's how strongly i feel about it parents have a right to seek the best possible education for their children and unfortunately they sometimes can't find that in the public school system maybe it's because of special needs maybe it's because of quite diverse other reasons but in any event i believe the school board the residents and parents of apache junction should welcome the competition of charter schools and other forms of private schools i think it's in the best interest of our public school system now i happen to go to school elementary and high school during the late 40s and mostly the 50s and i have the benefit of a truly excellent public education in a town in iowa that's

011about the same size maybe slightly smaller than apache junction and i acquired the power to reason to write to do all sorts of uh math all the way up through uh second year algebra geometry and i came out of high school with an education that proved to be totally adequate far more than minimal to attend college and later graduate school that isn't the case in many places in this country today parents need and deserve that choice and i would urge us to try to support it to our to the extent possible unfortunately the position of the leadership of the national teachers federation the union is very contrasted in much contrast to this and frankly one of the benefits of that two and a half months of pandemic this to millions of parents throughout the united

012states and clearly the vast majority of parents do not support what the leadership of the national teachers do and advocates finally i want to give just a little bit of attention to uh item 3.3 of your agenda which is proposing to send bobby bowders to the arizona school board association assembly to discuss the political agenda i don't know what process you're going through and i'm sending him i have nothing against bobby potter i rather like the fact that a man so young has been able to convince voters to elect him and that he's been an active participant in the year and a half that i've been actively attending meetings but i think we need to be assured that he has given ample guidance as to what to do at this assembly we don't want his

013personal feelings to be dictating what he advocates it somehow needs to reflect a consensus of you and if there is no consensus it needs to be communicated that way that it was we have a simple majority but significant opposition so that's my concern it's not bobby it's not any of you it's trying to take the most reasonable positions to assure the best possible education for the students of apache junction school district thank you thank you do you want to address any of that lisa majewski thank you good evening thank you for having me i just have a couple concerns i know some of you are you're aware of um ever since school started it has been a nightmare for my two students from the high school um anywhere from not being enrolled at the beginning

014of the year from one student to finally getting him enrolled with wrong classes um he was instead of recovery and on his edge annuities i didn't think that was on his annuity at first was his senior classes and he only had six credits as of right now so i already knew that was but that's all he could start off so he's doing his 12th grade classes now um got him situated and then we had problems with my daughter and the new and latest one with my daughter is then taking credit school friday afternoon um she went to sign on saturday on on a weekend to do schoolwork on her own i didn't even ask you which was a shock she went to sign on couldn't get on she just figured the website's down no big

015deal monday morning you're disabled out of google you can't get on at all i called the school no answer at the office it's called extensions for dr langberry's office no answer called the counselor for them no answer i even called there was one other one i wish i don't know which one was but they didn't answer either so i called the district's office the operator went ahead and said a person named joyce of high school is an excellent i.t person to figure out what's going on transferring me to her got the same thing voicemail get back to you for 24 48 hours well to me that's not good enough i mean they should be able to answer the phone who's the main office so i ended up calling the district office and the operator went

016ahead and um put you know took down my name and information and everything and got somebody on it but in the meantime i didn't know to call the superintendent's office so because i didn't i didn't know if that was like an issue for you or not so i went ahead and i posted on my personal facebook wall and typed a friend of mine and that's how some of you know about the problem already but i shouldn't have to go to social media to get answers that's ridiculous in my opinion that's ridiculous so but they went ahead and said that my student was on a deletion list because she wasn't there for the first two weeks of school want to see her work she printed it out on friday for me of all of the classes

017that she did since july 27 because she wasn't allowed in school to 2026 because of the schedule being screwed up so she missed three days beginning and then she hadn't missed yesterday because she was kidnapped because she went there i have all i have four different classes for you and then i also have the other student that's with that lives in my house as well in all these classes or collaborate classes and if you'd like to have these that's fine i have copies um but i just want to it can't be an ict a technical problem her being kicked out of school someone had to write her name on that list and i want to know who it was why didn't they count her and i also went ahead and i can show you every

018email they email the teacher every hour on the hour saying they are on ingenuity the teacher sees that they're on ingenuity obviously working on their classwork and she has email i i can get her email right now on my phone i had it so and i can see all the time she has checked in with miss reynolds saying checking in checking in check it in and she does this seven times a day so why was she deleting i will definitely get back with you on yeah we can get back with her tomorrow yeah so because i was talking to him on facebook messenger um i believe it was jerry davis um and he so he knew about the problem as well but i think you all should know about the problem that was ridiculous how

019many other kids were on that debating list that shouldn't be but the parents don't care enough to point it out you know i mean when you do send an email it would be nice to get a reply not pass it on to someone else at least you know you gotta reply i mean even jamie went from her own personal email yesterday emailed dr lineberry and she gets a email back from the registrar's office saying well you're on the deletion list we deleted it okay an acknowledgement it would be great that you've received the email because i've emailed him several times and have not answered thank you for coming here thank you and we'll follow up with you for sure okay okay the consent agenda would somebody like to make a motion on the consent agenda

020madam president i motioned to approve the consent agenda a second second miss garcia yes mr conciou i know what he's thinking right now i've got this thing on the school facility uh over operation board update i thought we were going to be discussing that we are going to discuss that information discussion it's 4.3 it's on there oh okay yes mr butters yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero okay information discussion 4.1 drug prevention chief pulley and officer danny garcia hi it's chad good evening my name police here in is junction police department uh first i want to say thank you to all of you for inviting us from here i think what we're going to talk about tonight is a brief snapshot in time where we're at

021with one of the most dangerous things that our students are are encountering on a daily basis and this is drugs and the different types of substances that are out there part of it is i think our parents need to know what's out there and having worked i was a teacher before i was a police officer believe it or not i was i talked two years and i decided to do something safer so i wanted to be a police officer we are here to support you one of the things before we start also is i wanted to introduce um two of our sros that are here uh well yeah they're both here so you all approved our sros for school resource officer we're happy to have that officer wright is in the back there he'll be

022assigned to the apache junction uh high school and our corporal harshman here is assigned to cactus canyon what we're going to be talking about is going to be able to be implemented a little bit more within the schools because our sros are there coming here tonight is not only the chief police but also a parent i want you to know that students the youth are everything for our community that's where this begins we take it very seriously the safety of our children that are there no matter what age all the way through high school we want them to come to school knowing that they're supportive i brought tonight with me detective danny garcia who's assigned to the dba passport and is very familiar with the trends that are going on in my career i've worked

023in narcotics in a similar position as danny but drugs the trends change every day there's something new so i wanted to bring somebody that has current knowledge so i'm going to turn it over to danny and have him give a little presentation we'll be here to answer questions you fully so as chief police said uh thank you for having me i'm getting garcia and for a little presentation today on drugs in schools we're gonna go ahead and begin a little bit about my background uh 20 years of law enforcement that's where i met actually i went to middle school with mr cantrell here and then we started a career at the sheriff's office together so we go way back and there's a lot of familiar faces here today and i'm happy to see everybody it's

024been a while um i was a school resource officer right here at factory junction high school in learned a lot a really young man when i did that still a young man just uh it was a while ago i have four boys um i've got a 19 year old a 17 year old 14 year old and a nine year old so it's a busy household one of the college now two of them are at high school right over here desert ridge i got a beautiful wife who's a mental health nurse and like she fully said i'm currently assigned to the dea's uh all right good pictures of my boys there's sean on the left sadly the right of him my older boy is little danny he's got the helicopter there he's ready to get in

025the door uh christian on the right um just by the way they not all of them want to be police officers we got a nurse uh far left there and then the other three still stay there in the game but we'll see what happens here in the future reason i'm bringing up these pictures uh my beautiful family here and a big reason that we do what we do for our families for your families for our community and we live right here within this community we have for a very long time forever my wife kelly superstition mountain i'm sorry she went to deserve this elementary school the older patrick johnson junior high and she's a graduate of high school and then she went on grand canyon university and so on but she is definitely born and

026raised growing up in this town here all right so the question was about what's going on our schools um you know i work uh doing the drug enforcement stuff and when chief pooley asked me what's going to schools i'm like you know i know what's going on in the world with the drugs the trends what's popular but what what exactly is going on in the schools what a middle of summer i've been asked this what do i do so i turned to some teenagers that i know that are very close to me and i i brought them in separate so it wasn't all at the same time and i said hey what what is going on like what are the kids doing what's the trends what's what's going on uh at junior high what's going

027on in high school and what was crazy me is is they both the two that i talked to told me the same thing and the first thing they talked about was vape and i just spoke to our principal here at the high school when he showed me pictures of all the vape pens that have been uh seized recovered uh just last year alone or was that just this year oh it was last house okay it's huge so what a vape is typically um you know they they smoke tobacco out of their nuts back up with nicotine it's an aerosol that gets vaporized and it's very popular very popular especially amongst the school-age kids a lot of it because there's no odor so it wasn't like back when we were in school where you go light

028up a cigarette in the bathroom and you come back to class and everybody knows hey so-and-so just had a cigarette i mean they could have their nicotine a lot of them is they like the flavors these things are all flavored they're all different colors they light up they're trendy and um number one both told me and i asked them why i asked my 14 year old he said why is vape a drug and he said yeah it is dad and i said why and he said well it's addictive it's addictive it stimulates and i'm like okay that's that's great this is coming from a 14 year old um so vape was was the number one thing uh that that was brought up and a lot of it is you know pretty much uh one example

029i was given is in the back of the classroom teacher turns around somebody puffs on a vape and blows it in the air by the time teacher realizes what happened it's already gone over with so the second thing i asked what was going on in high school was thc or marijuana and that kind of goes hand in hand with the vape because you can vape the thc um and it just like the old days marijuana has a very distinctive spell um you know smells kind of skunky i'm not sure who here has felt it or not but it's very strong odor and i remember back when i was in school you always knew the kid based off of the bloodshot watery eyes and the smell from the classroom by by vaping it or taking in

030a form that's that aerosol it's not given that odor anymore which makes it fairly easy um and then you put that hand in hand with the vape tools um they actually call it a cart and the picture on the far right the ziploc we seized those at a search warrant probably two months ago it was something unrelated to what we're doing but it was a high school kid and probably had about 400 those are called carts for cartridges and i learned more about those from my teenagers by saying hey what is this i showed him a photo and they said well those are those are called carts and i said okay so how do you use them and they said you hook them up to like a vape they call it uh like a battery

031gives it power and the same thing they inhale it just like the nicotine version they also told me that there's a dispensary one that has a wrapper on it so he quickly identified it that's not the good one stay away from that that's what they put the fentanyl in super scary but that's where the problem becomes they go to parties they go to school they're just handing these things around one because they might like the taste of it these things are they're uh they're set up to be all different flavors they're appealing um just a quick example i went on a trip with some old friends the other day and a friend of mine that i went to high school with he's in his 40s and he had a vape and i said what are

032you doing with that thing and he says oh no there's no there's no nicotine or anything yet i just like the flavor and i'm like man they gotcha you know he just likes the flavor um and this is a grown man so if if somebody um you know that i went to school with is is using vape just because they like the flavor it's definitely pretty appealing to our younger generation you have your traditional marijuana you know they dry it up smoke it and roll papers or pipes um and then also another big trend now is the edibles like the gummies um oh that's a problem because like there's no odor you just take a gummy and just hang out you know and one of the big problems we're seeing is this thc today is

033a lot more potent than the old marijuana the stuff that's being uh synthetically made sold in a lot of these dispensaries is has a lot higher potency than the traditional grown marijuana and it's causing all kinds of effects and i i know that because my wife dealing with adolescence and being in the mental health side of things she deals with a lot of issues where young men and women come in to be detoxed or going through some type of detox and they need help so they she deals with that at the mental hospital and here's a big one here's here's the scary one these are very popular m30 pills they got all kinds of different names blues seeds buttons um i have an example up there of the main m30s and they're fake uh like

034oxycodone pills there's no um nothing of that in there it's all synthetic um typically made up of fentanyl and fentanyl comes from china where they're getting it shipped here the united states or to mexico typically mexico and you have somebody there that's cutting it with some other type of cutting agent and then they they form it into a pill and they're mass producing these things um you've probably seen the signs everywhere one pill can kill um that that science pretty accurate i mean we have had so many problems with overdoses because whoever's making these things they don't you know they're not measuring stuff out they're just out there and somewhere uh throwing a vat together and then pill pressing these the problem is they're getting into our our kids hands in schools um at parties

035pretty much everywhere they go my kids knew what these were when i showed it to them and i haven't stopped showing i regularly show it to them um the other problem we're having is now they're coming in different colors you know they call them skittles but it's the same exact thing it'll be around m30 just like that they're saying they're more potent the picture on the bottom left was a car we stopped down on the i-10 and it was uh secreted in there all those bundles on the left are different colors those are all m30 pills and i forgot what the count was on that the upper right hand corner um is an actual picture from a search warrant that we did and in that case we seized 377 000 of these in a little

036fifth wheel trailer and then the bottom right hand corner was another case we did uh those are the zany bars they call them and those are like counterfeit or fake xanax but it's the same thing it's it's fentanyl mixed in um you know fentanyl was used uh for medical purposes um for pain and it quickly came out 50 times more potent than heroin very strong substance and very dangerous all right so a lot of you may have seen this photo before but this is what a lethal dose of powder fentanyl can look like usually if it's in that pill form it's pretty stable for the most part as long as it's not crushed up but you know you've seen maybe videos of police officers or people opening containers searching stuff and they they get hit

037with a little bit of powder that they inhale and then they have to be uh you know brought to medical attention um that's an example of how a little bit of of an amount it could take for an overdose a lethal dose of fentanyl so how are these things being ingested and things to look for um typically they'll use a piece of foil they'll put the actual pill on it and then they'll use like a pen or a straw and they put a lighter underneath and it heats it up and that's how they inhale the pill that's a very common way to do it other ways is just to take it like a regular pill and let it dissolve but you'll see more of the serious users um are using the the foil to heat

038it up and ingest it if you come across burnt foil or foil with with lines around it more likely it's paraphernalia and other things to look for you might want to look a little further on who you have there in front of you and the last thing that we talked about that's been a problem for a long time is alcohol that was the the actual the fourth thing that i asked my kids about and obviously it's been going on forever um you know kids ingesting alcohol we talked about you know them putting it in water bottles the vodka bringing it to school mixing in with stuff and having something to drink during the day in addition to using it outside of school so those are the main the main things that we talked about when

039i asked what drugs what issues are going on in the schools now the question is where are these drugs coming from traditional means i could probably go down probably have to change out of my uniform but you know the nearest gas station and just started asking hey do you have any blues you know where i get some blues they're they're they're everywhere i mean it's it's so easy it's scary to obtain these things same with the other drugs that we talked about family and friends unfortunately we have family members that are into these type of drugs and many times they're not in the right state of mind and they're making it accessible for the kids and the youth to get it same thing with friends you know they have friends that are using them and

040they open up and uh make it available to our kids and the last one social media social media drug dealing is huge now i couldn't believe how big it was until a couple of years ago they're using apps like snapchat and what they'll do is they'll blast out a location and then what they have and usually they'll they'll have in code but all the kids know what the code is for the most part and i have an example of some of these uh codes and these codes are universal it's not just snapchat facebook messenger all the different things but as you can see for like blues or oxycodone you have a little pill the blue a banana the parking symbol for percocet um you know down example of marijuana we have trees bushes the leaves

041things like that mushrooms pretty cut and dry so things to look for um i as a parent and we'll get into that look through my phone my kids phones regularly we have phone random phone checks where even my 19 year old has to hand it over um and and i tell them it's for safety um you know we've had some discussions about it before but they know if they're living at home they're going to turn those phones over we're going to make sure everybody's safe in the house because sometimes they might be exposed to something and they don't even know it so here we go what can we do about it as parents administrators staff and a community the biggest thing is education talk about educate talk educate talk if the kids don't know they

042don't know so if we start showing them hey these are blues these are what they can do to you they're actually they're not percocets they're not oxycodone they're fentanyl and this stuff is deadly and it will kill you i unfortunately have had people close to my family i had a friend's child they actually went through the aj school district they ended up at a different school district but last year we had to go to her memorial because great students traded student for some reason she got a hold of a blue went to sleep and she never woke up and i was actually going to bring her t-shirt from a memorial tonight i forgot it but i think of her all the time when we're going out we're busting these guys with all these huge amounts

043of pills and such when i first got to the dea these pills were going for about seven dollars a pill in phoenix 7-15 uh the other day we were obtaining them at like 45 cents a pill um before a thousand pills was a big deal now you just saw we just got 377 000 in one little fifth wheel so it's a huge problem but i think talking about it educating the kids i talk to my kids all the time i'm super open with them i tell them about hey this is what this does you know hey using this marijuana yeah i can mess with you but this m30 it can kill you you take it you're not gonna wake up you know you use this methamphetamine so we we go over everything i'm not afraid

044to talk to them about things we talk about alcohol you know hey you're not allowed to drink you're underage but if for some reason you find yourself in a position when you have call me no questions asked i'll come get you hey one drink you might be okay but a drink a hard liquor that's a different story it's going to hit you harder i used to be a motor officer so you know the the alcohol affects people differently we have those tough talks and discussions on a regular basis and i think that's what helps and what we're doing as a as your local police department i'm assigned to dea task force we have a community resource unit we have school resource officers our patrol officers everybody's working together at some level we're looking at going

045after the big guys before it even gets to apache junction as our community resource units kind of in between and then we have our patrol officers and detectives here in town that are pursuing these things and are basically staying on top of it doing the best we can we all have a vested interest in this community like i just told you guys i have a family i showed you a picture of them they hang out in this community we live in this community i share this stuff with their friends i just want them to be educated and know so that they make good decisions and sorry i'm going i'm going a little fast but i know i'm hard on time here i got some resources for you guys up here um not my kids a

046really good one they're located in scottsdale um and you know they can help with uh getting help for a kid or a child young adult that may be needing some assistance with some type of either mental issues drug abuse addiction um banner behavioral is a good one they're located over in scottsdale banner thunderbird and then there's the the crisis hotline is huge so if you guys don't have the number of the crisis hotline that be a good one to take down um i think i know i kind of sped through things but i appreciate you guys letting me come in and talk about these issues and uh hopefully we can all work together because the only way we're gonna get ahead is to all work together as uh you know administrators our community teachers educators

047police department and i think i talked to somebody today not every case needs the police to come get involved you know sometimes i'll give you example obviously if we have a kid that's selling drugs and you know it's a bad thing we need to be involved we need to come and figure out where all that's coming from but if we have maybe a kid that looks like they may have an addiction problem it may be a situation where you reach out to one of these numbers because they might not need jail they might need they think they might need help to try to get them on the right track danny just in the closing i just want to i just want to say thank you again for this time obviously this could be a a

048huge presentation for everyone and we could take a lot of time on this the bottom line is the drug abuse drug sales drug use and experimentation knows has no boundaries it doesn't matter what race what religion how much money your your parents make it is affecting this entire country we are the biggest consumers illegal substance in the entire world and if people think there's not a problem then they're blind to what's going on um our job is to try to educate along with our educators and obviously anybody that's looking for resources we're here for you we want you to know that sometimes you don't know who to reach out to for help it's nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed we seriously want the best for our students and for our youth again we appreciate

049the time you've given us tonight and thank you thank you yes sir do your officers carry narcan yes they do carry yeah so you uh you can find somebody you can give them that you don't have to wait for the medicare people yes give us a comment about the the prosecutors and judges in this area in all county if you catch somebody with all these drugs what happens to them it's all case-by-case basis here so i really can't say but they just kick them back out no no absolutely not they take it very serious yeah because they have a big hotel down in florence yeah they sure do and we definitely fill it up um just one chief if i could have a few more uh seconds here and i'll go through this really quick

050i know i went through everything fast but if you can remember one thing about tonight go to arizona haida that's who i'm side to the high intensity drug trafficking area if you google them and then go down to e-resources this is great um it's gonna bring you to this page here and for example uh click on electronic cigarettes and vaping and it's gonna give you all these options not only is what you need to know and how to talk to your kids about vaping for parents man you can go on this and it'll tell you exactly what to say to them but as an educator or coach over here we have on the right know the risk of e-cigarettes and youth what educators coaches need to know so if you remember to go to az

051haida and then go to e-resources there is all kinds of stuff in here that can help you there's even uh instagram stuff uh things from the social media um and there's some stories i think somebody talked about a story earlier from from having a victim in the family and and they're on this site so if you have things that you want to implement the classroom and stuff there's anything i can help you with or my partners can help you would be more happy to but if there's something you're looking at doing on your own um not only will this these resources tell you what to you know there's a talk in english a talk in spanish uh to have with your kids and there's also as educators power there's there's even full-on powerpoints you can

052show the classes on this haida website and it's under just remember e-resources when you get there but once again like chief said thank you everybody for your time and uh thanks for having us and good night thank you guys for being here so real quick i i just have a few questions oh yes ma'am so chief uh officer garcia first i'd like to know like out here in apache junction what is it looking like as far as drugs and as far as like how many arrests are you making is is it like a lot is the community just a small community where we're not getting a lot of activity is there a lot of activity i think that we it's it's it's valley wide right and i wouldn't say apache junction is any worse than

053anywhere else um frankly i think it's a little bit better than a lot of places um you know like i said i'm raising my family out here and i feel perfect just i educate them and send them out there they know what's going on in the world i don't worry about it too much yes there are drugs but there are drugs everywhere i grew up in scottsdale i'm not trying to you know name any places but you know i think it's just a bigger city so you're going to have more going on so to answer your question as far as is it worse i don't think so okay um it's definitely here right um but it's not it's not to that right and so i hear that the fentanyl it's even stronger than it was

054like last year like it's there's something that's now out that is even more deadly is that correct no the the thing with the fentanyl like for example recently um they were trying to sell some gold ones okay and they were saying that they were more potent but it's the same exact thing as a blue one they're just trying to make more money off of it so bottom line they're both just as deadly they're both scary it's just about profits right so i mean overall apache junction like i said i raised my kids here right and it's it's pretty safe community and we're going to have drugs all over the place and i know uh i sent this presentation to a friend of mine who's a special agent that does this type of stuff full-time and

055i asked her hey what do you think of the three things three or four things i i asked the kids about and she told me hey we just did a big seminar in yavapai county and that was in the same order that you received it is what yavapai county kids told them so it's not just here in apache junction i think it's just a trend right with the youth so what do you recommend as a district so you know our job is to make sure kids are safe on campus you know one of the things that i i always feel like having assemblies having somebody come and speak to the kids is something that we should do um i know that we've spoke prior maybe having some dogs come on campus i know that you

056said you can maybe arrange that it's a possibility that's something that we definitely have to talk about especially things have changed a little bit uh i mean we used to do it a lot when i was an sro but right you know this is back in 2007. um i think that the education part of it would be very helpful right uh you know assemblies um and bringing somebody in and maybe bringing somebody in to talk about a story right um but that i think that would definitely be beneficial okay um you said things uh to look for at school you know just like i do at home when my kids come home and they're evasive like hey dad how's it going and they go straight for their room it's like well we'll get back here

057you know the first the next question is hey empty out your pockets what's going on right um and i want to know everything that you did tonight and we find out right um and then we educate them on it and i think our educators can do the same thing you get to know the kids and you know when something's not right right and it's just about asking questions sometimes they'll open up you know you know what's scary is like school just started yeah and we already have situations going on right you know what i mean so like i pulled a report on some of the incidences so like at the high school and it could be just vape it doesn't mean that it's anything stronger but like 110 incidences already yeah you know what i

058mean like at the junior high 34 instances yeah you know suspensions and and this is an issue it's just this year yeah that's last year oh last year's i'm sorry last year's report so this is an ongoing issue you know i mean i know that there's already been a few this year started three of that i'm aware of so i just i know from you guys that are experienced what can we incorporate in our district to try to help keep this stuff off our campus other than i mean i'm so grateful we have our sros on campus and i was hoping that was going to be a really good deterrent you know right so it's just kids are daring these yes they're not afraid absolutely and especially we talked about some of the different devices

059and how they're odorless and and they're super trendy they love the colors they light up way they have some that you have different colors but i think the biggest thing is is the uh the education on it i think a lot of kids just don't know they don't know and they think it's tobacco and there's thc in it and they take it because their buddies taking it my kids i talk to them like hey don't be puffing on anything you have no idea what it is don't be taking any pills unless you see the markings on it it's ibuprofen and you call first um but a lot of it is just just making them aware i think a lot of times a lot of kids aren't aware and they succumb to peer pressure right and

060i think a lot of the issues we have are the bathrooms yeah and that's nothing nothing's changed being informed and being involved whether it's as a teacher a school janitor cafeteria worker i think everyone needs to know their role that it's important to speak up and say something right there's this isn't an apache junction problem i can tell you that right now this is a problem that's plaguing this entire country and especially our youth and it's something that everyone needs to be involved and informed you know even our parents and let them know that hey there are resources for education to get assistance if you're student there are students that are addicted already and they their chances of graduating is probably slim doesn't mean they can't but we have to be informed and involved right

061immediately you know one of the things just one quick thing is we have the dare program that starts at fifth and sixth grade if we can continue to build on that here in apache junction other communities don't have that i can tell you right now across state and country the dare program it's hard to find right but here in apache junction you have fifth and sixth graders that are screaming and singing about saying no to drugs building on that because that junior high age that's where a lot of the junior high is where they make it or or they don't right and just being informed and involved officer garcia i just have one question for you for parents that need to dispose any kind of forms of pills that they've confiscated from their teenager or

062is there a place do you guys have a place if they come down the police station we have in the front there's a big box it's the dj's kickback program you don't have to fill anything out just no questions asked throw it in there and we make it go away okay yeah don't flush it down the toilet can't do that anymore thank you guys thank you thank you so much i just had a cool question for heather actually oh um i actually have a question for heather um so do we carry narcan on our campuses right now and how how does that process go like does the nurse have to administer it or the the nurse is there then i you know what i'm gonna i don't know i know that we have it and

063the school nurses have been educated on how to use that so is that on every campus or just secondary all campuses i've seen a post that they were in like the whole school got them okay they're at each campus yeah so they're on campuses yeah okay and so i think you know maybe having some assembly you have a question back there i'll talk to you okay i just wanted to get a screenshot of the two screens that the help resources and the website that i could use to put out on social media for people that i've encountered okay okay thank you again all right 4.2 njrotc field trip update master gun norvin guerrero hi president board members distinguished guests i am a master judge guerrero with the patriot junction high school engineer otc one of

064the two instructors commander locke is the uh the other instructor there i'm here to just let you guys know what your cadets did throughout the summer little eight weeks of events that they did after uh graduation or after the school break so six big events you know the first big event was being the arizona leadership academy that was held in independence high school and then we sent we sent six cadets there and these cadets that do attend this they come back and they they uh assume leadership positions within the uh the rotc program so they become operations officer supply officer and an officer so they they take the lead because they have more training more experience okay and there was a cadet mcgowan alexis kate logan white soap waylon gibson evan rivera and lily buckner

065okay if it was a five-day course monday to friday they stepped there at uh independence high school and then they graduated friday morning the the other big event that the cadets did was the girls state girls stayed of boys state the girl state was held at university of arizona down there at tucson the wildcats it was a monday to friday event we had cadet richie and cadet carlson's attended okay they learned government and politics the election process and held my elections during their time there so it was very informative and keep educating for them okay for the boys state same time frame in june they were sent up to uh nau up there at flagstaff the lumberjacks and then we had cadet brian triton attended that and you know he talked about they showed him

066the process of laws and how our laws are proposed voted on participated in mock trials and taught basic knowledge of how politicians run for house and senate seats so very good experience for cadet ryan they're of the boys state of the u the other big event that uh your cadets attended was the law enforcement career leadership academy we had two cadets cadet paint and cadet morales attended that and they learned law enforcement processes procedures crime scene investigation backstop etc so very beneficial now some of these cadets as well have part-time jobs over the high school i mean over the summer so they had to talk to their superiors their bosses and see if they could find time to fit in these these defenses that they attended so they're they're managing managing the time well to

067say the very least and then one of the other big events this was in southern california in san diego it's the sailing academy where every summer we take cadets and teach them how to sail 25 foot sailboats and 27 foot sailboats and after the third day they race each other in regattas so it's it's fun it gets a lot of heat here in arizona during the summer and they they actually learn how to sell in fact another big event that they did was the drill camp of the greenway high school in glendale we have three cadets paige silver and conley more in-depth drill training than what we conduct during the school year so now they could take on and pass that knowledge they gained through other cadets here in the uh in this in the

068school um we also did a cadet strat staff trip up at a flagstaff fort tucker who went up the air force rotc briefed the cadets on how the processes you know get scholarships how to maintain grades dorms any questions that uh a senior aspiring to go to college at nau they're more than happy to answer very helpful apollo high school joined us up there for the event so even brought more camaraderie within the other program when we were up there too we also took the cadets to [ __ ] national monument the fort tucker museum captain navajo and on the way down we stopped by the anthem uh veterans park okay so those were the key events that the uh the cactus county junior high and apache junior high students cadets students and rc students participate all

069the week i mean over the summer in addition to that they did a lot of community services they did the flag and flag day at the elk slot they helped them support via the flag the event the pow mia ceremony and harley davidson and mesa they did those and just a myriad of stuff they're always requested whether it be guard pow mia ceremonies or even helping out the 55 and above community with with your yard whatever the case but they're always there to help and we're glad we could help you thank you board members for allowing me to share what your cadets did over the summer questions for me thank you for what you do thank you thank you so much thank you [Applause] okay 4.3 school facility board update who's taking that one on

070i can i can go through um what's updated there's a chart on there that we created can you pull that up mr andrew and right now we're working through roofing at the high school that construction started roofing design at four peaks in cactus canyon and roofing procurement at desert vista and peralta so undergoing those roofing projects are moving along and then the weatherization projects at the painting at each site so the high school is almost complete and then we have we're in the procurement process at cactus canyon desert vista and peralta and in the design process at four peaks and then the bleacher design has been done and the gym floor design both at cactus canyon and then grading and drainage at the high school so right currently we've had about 7.4 million dollars worth

071of projects funded by sfb and then our portion's been about 881 000. any questions for mr hill or myself this diagram do we have this available or have we been making it available to the public so they can see where projects you know the various status of the projects i mean not just here but i mean on social media or our newsletter or anything we can do that well i think it really needs to be put on out there because unfortunately i know i've talked to a few neighbors in my neighborhood and somebody was saying well wait a minute how come you were spending money on various things i thought we had to have a bond issue i said no wait a minute this is not a bond issue i think it needs to be

072re-emphasized that we have not had to have a bond issue for all this repair work that along with putting this information on out over our you know whatever social media we've got available i think would end up helping as far as informing the public of what's being what's going on in the school district and how we're not adding another tax burden on to the public okay the uh the one question i was wondering um did we not talk about a right away or no not uh ways adjacent ways projects those are different projects is that something we're going to have to take a look at or is a different source of funding or it's different funding okay and then we've got um oh wait a minute it is in there okay good the bleacher design

073okay i've got no other things anybody else i'm just curious when do we expect the weatherization at the elementary and the junior high to start do we know it's just it just depends when it gets awarded and how it moves along so some of these that weren't awarded how do we which ones have been actually cleated like i don't know that says awarded bigger if they're green and they're better so like the carpeting like done whatever we've applied for in green has been done a lot of it you don't see out in public right right like i think peralta and quartets are at sfp they're going over the prints the okay a long process so it's a process right okay and remember when we got awarded for the high school we got awarded in maybe

074october november but we didn't they weren't giving us funds till the following april so that's what we have to be careful that's wondering because it says awarded right because it doesn't mean and they've been installed no no so they're they're only on design so how long do you think it'll take for that it takes it's a process like will we have it this year no no they're on their own time yeah that's true i know they're on their own june and july they were out of money so nothing really right now they're starting with fun stuff right this is wallace do you think that we could have mr diego's post this and then maybe the newspaper of some sort sure yeah and some of the things the projects that have been done maybe get that

075out like you know on social media i think there's pr do you want this exact thing posted i think there's probably a better way to write it well there's a better way but the the other thing too is that uh it probably would not hurt if we had like before and after pictures that always helps out explaining what's been happening here at the school or at the various schools locations and it just keeps people informed one of the things that uh i keep even to this day running into is well the school district doesn't end up informing us of anything i say wait a minute you know give them a list of our scoreboard meetings i do that and they say well why should i come they don't talk about anything anyway i see stuff

076on screen you know it's it's really frustrating sometimes just getting it out i mean just like we had okay we had that one granted it wasn't the school facilities board but we had what one or two pictures of big piles of torn up asphalt for the [Music] track but have we i haven't seen any pictures of the completed track yet it's not done no but we didn't have the i i saw the we saw pictures of the of the pile of stuff it may not be completed yet but we didn't even have i didn't see any pictures of the way the track looked when we had graduation there was pictures where there they have pictures posted graduation yeah okay because i've got i keep getting questions about that from well from some of my neighbors

077i think just regularly having updates about things that are going on you know like so you know this is where we are with the track now you know this is where we're at like another month this is where we are with the track when it's you know like just keeping people updated on a lot of the processes that are going on you know okay four point oh sorry go ahead mrs wallace hasn't mr diego's been doing some of that stuff though yeah it i mean people might miss it and don't see it yeah yeah so don't show up i can put more out so do you feel like you want it more is there somewhere else other than well we put it out on our our newsletter i guess but not everybody ends up getting

078the newsletter because i'm thinking if we couldn't end up you know maybe putting it out on uh social media or maybe if we can't do it i mean we've got a uh we've got a aj usd discussion page that's there on social media why can't we put this information on out there on that just as a question and as a for instance of something that we need to end up using to keep them public or to keep the public informed can we i would rather have the public have more information than keep everything quiet it's just something that it's hard too because the aj newspaper was so good at doing that for us well yeah but now they don't end up hardly talking to us it seems like they're not there you know i think

079what he has done though with the videos the first day of school was really cool [Music] um oh yeah it's hard because you don't see there's much more posts after that i just ran into that one i understand that but that was what two weeks ago when we're talking about ongoing projects where's the information well and remember mrs goffer i can print you some of those so you have them with you when you're out like we did before we can print updated ones so you can share them with your neighbors great it'd be good to get maybe a story in the independent about you know the projects okay 4.4 preschool program update so we just wanted to share that we um in an effort to be competitive with some of the bigger school districts and

080hold on to kids from our community we started a program down at the preschool preschool called kickstart to kindergarten and it's a fee based program for children that are four or five but weren't five in time to go to kindergarten and it's for them to have a year of structured preschool before they go into our kindergarten class we have a certified teacher teaching it and we have currently about 10 students in the class we hope to grow the program and possibly have two classrooms next year it's been really good just for kids to have exposure before they go into kindergarten so what's the expense to the district on this uh well it's the there it just depends on the it's the cost of the teacher but then it's offset by the tuition of the students

081so there's 10 students in there 150 dollars a week is that what the charge is 150 yeah is this is this under uh tlc it's a new program so the preschool we have before was title the preschool is still there it's first we have special needs so we have two preschools one that's special needs funded title special needs special needs funded though through title or special needs funded through special it's a teacher that paid the title that's funded through special ed i know it's all special there's titles the elementary oh title at the elementary okay just trying to make sure i know my funding okay and then now this is something new that we're adding to that because what happens is they go to other districts for that kind type of preschool and then they

082keep them there for kindergarten right so we're trying to keep them here with us so then they flow right into our kindergarten okay so it's 150 and it's very affordable compared to what others are charging okay and then just question the board needs to approve this or no because i didn't see it we shouldn't need to agree that okay maybe we should look into that and so right now we have 10 kids and are we promoting it out to the community so that we can get more kids enlisted [Music] how's the other program is that full the daycare speak more into the mic the other program the daycare's full we just have run out of room we have a full baby room we have a full toddler room and we have a full 3-4 we

083don't have any we have people on waiting lists okay and then the special needs program how was that it's always full it's full mm-hmm okay i would just say that i would check into making sure we approve that okay mrs wallace we can't hear her down here yeah i just said that i would just like her to check in to make sure that the board has to approve this or not the school the new preschool the program the program yes that's it for me any other questions okay 4.5 covid update as well we just wanted to let you know that we're um what were the process the procedures were rolling with right now are that if anyone tests positive they're home for five days they can return after five days symptom free with the mass

084for an additional five calendar days so it doesn't have to necessarily be two weeks of school days it's calendar days and we start the clock based on when people get their positive test if people have been exposed and they have symptoms then the same thing happens they stay home until they're not having symptoms or have tested to show that they're negative we've had about 20 cases with the teachers and about 75 across pre-k-12 in two weeks so now we had how we did adopt a policy for sick days and all that's the same so this is doing the same thing this is just following the same okay any other questions on that okay 4.6 mesa public schools is hosting the east valley school boards consort consortium you can't say that we're in consortium consortium there

085you go on monday august 29th at 6 pm do we need to know who's attending i think i will be able to go to that let you know miss golf i'll let you know i was like now i am but i need to check one thing i'll let you know tomorrow i'll have to let you know later i think i can make that work i'm if i'll let you know tomorrow as well i'll have to get back to you this is cool of course okay action items 5.1 possible action on audit report ending june 30th 2021 and as well as we went over this and our work at the work session correct there was about nine findings that we said we are um aware of and working through okay somebody like to make a motion

086is it i was just gonna ask is there any a anticip any uh approximate date as to when we'll have those nine taken care of completely they're just they're if you remember their processes and kind of systems to put in place as we move through the next calendar year okay so there was something on i just wanted to highlight something real fast on page 82. it said that and i don't know if i didn't see this prior let me see if i could get to 82 this is really long but it was the decrease in enrollment but increase in administration did they say i was just i'm just curious about that i don't know which one it was hold on so that was a concern for me seeing that there was a decline in enrollment

087and that administration is increased there's going to be an increase because we've spent more we've spent a lot of the s or money on people okay so will that adjust well it won't as long as we're spending if that's what it's from as long as we're spending extra money right but so when the essence is done then those positions will correct or wolf or will deem them necessary and find funding for them okay so i just wanted to see if that was the funding was increased in those positions due to essers even though there's been well that's where the increase in people have come from right okay they're all grant funded okay it's a long report so we like to make a motion on that a motion to approve the audit report ending june 30th

0882021 a second miss garcia yes mr cancio yours mr butters yes ms kimball yes and ima s that motion passes five to zero 5.2 possible action on districts mission and vision so this was a new district mission and vision vision and mission that the principals and i the administrative team and i worked on together and then they brought it out to the sites to do work on it and we went back and forth and then finalize this one would you like to make a motion on that president i'd like to make a motion to approve the district's mission and vision second okay ms garcia yes mr consio yes mr botters yes ms kimball yes and imas that passes five to zero 5.3 possible action on boys and girls club of the east valley lease agreement

092finance laws someone like to make a motion on that i'm assuming it's paid for title one correct yeah i want to make sure we knew that uh madam president i motioned to approve chad cantrell's out-of-state travel to clark county nevada on november 30th through december 2nd 2022 to attend the bursting and mansavet pllc's conference throughout to say the amount to yeah and the amount of two thousand two hundred eighty-seven dollars second is garcia miss garcia yes mr kantia yes mr butters yes miss kimball yes that motion passes five to zero okay 5.6 governing board to discuss and may consider action to approve the arizona school board's draft 2023 political agenda and direct the district's delegate to the asba delegate assembly to represent the board's determined position ma'am um madam president i've got a few comments

093and actually i like i believe uh comments that were made at the public comments are very uh very relevant if i could remember i think there was a one while he's looking for that can i just let mr bowder know that um the nurses are trained the sro officers are trained those are who's trained currently on campuses to give that well first off starting on roman numeral one number one maximize state funding for competitive salaries i don't know how many of you follow the joint legislative budget budget committee but this last fiscal year there was over 50 i believe is 52 percent of the state budget was designated for education now i understand yes we want to give uh teachers raises and we want to end up all having nice schools and everything however there's

094what they call an auditor general's report there are approximately 1.1 million school-age students in schools in the state of arizona population of arizona 7.1 million there was 2 200 administrators there are over 200 school districts i have had discussions one-on-one with a couple of state legislators and there are as of about a coup about a month ago there are 30 school districts that have 100 students or less but they have a superintendent they have a principle for the school then they have the teachers can i just say that they're often the superintendent is the principal of the school and you have to have their amazing school district in a couple of cases but when you've got the majority of those 30 have a principal for the school but also have a superintendent for the school

095district i'm sorry it looks a little top heavy now i will grant you it's been 50 years plus since i went to high school but i come from tucson it's a little bird south of here my graduating class was 985. tucson unified school district at that time we had 11 high schools the high school i went to we had in my junior year alone 6 600 students we have here a high school or a school district that has half that much for the asba to push this situation without any anything that i saw in here to have a more effective not efficient but effective way of using personnel it it just does not sit right with me if you're gonna i'd i've got nothing against financing schools but let's finance them to where you are

096effective and i keep i keep running into this people think well you're efficient you can end up spending a hundred dollars in 30 seconds or if you're going to do it efficiently effectively it'll take you a little bit longer so that you can end up thinking how you're going to use that money this this max of oh well we just go ahead and spend money and spend money and spend money we are still at almost the bottom of the nation when it comes to academic results we spend all kinds of money we're one of the lowest for funding also one of the lowest funded correct the highest funded yeah have happened but the thing about it is is back east they also have a higher population in in the area that has that spends the

097most money you've got more population than 7.1 million i do not believe that we're getting the max bang for the buck now it was the one that was brought on up at public comments regarding wanting to do away with parent choice the last time i checked parents are taxpayers and it's the taxpayers that fund the schools for asba to go ahead and make that kind of comment or to end up saying that oh we need to end up having them to where they should not be able to end up choosing what school that's a violation of state law ars 1-602 the parent rights i'm sorry i'm against that tied in with that is three roman numeral three number eight you end up saying support policy that protects school district employees and students from discrimination including

098on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity so in other words we're supposed to go ahead and embrace a different lifestyle that is not in line with the the natural orientation of of the student that's not what it's saying it's not about embracing a lifestyle it's about protecting no but we're supposed to end up encouraging the the adoption of that i i just don't see it no it's saying that we that they want the state to pass laws that will protect lgbtq plus staff members and students it is not about promoting a lifestyle that is unnatural at all so how's that going to end up affecting students preschoolers if it doesn't apply to them then it if it doesn't apply to but you're you're going to actually end up having teachers that have that

099lifestyle and they're going to be teaching young children are you saying that you have a problem with gay teachers teaching young students is that what you're saying okay when they end up having and it's already happened in some schools back east drag queen day sorry that doesn't belong in school i don't care what so what about what about that provision is saying that we're going to promote drag queen day at school it's a door that creates an opening by protecting rights around and saying that oh we're going to protect you if you end up doing something like that that's not what it's saying that's not what i'm saying at all it's discrimination laws to prevent people from being fired for being gay or being disciplined for being gay you're you're no i disagree okay well

100that's what it says so what was the one for on roman numeral for number four this was the one that i i believe was also mentioned in the uh public comments enforce financial requirements and seek recovery of improperly received and or expended public funds by charter and private schools and organizations we do not have a right to end up depriving parents of choosing the schools that they want their children to attend i don't care if it's parochial private public or charter and to end up putting that on in there i'm sorry i can't back that on up it's not saying that it's saying that they are seeking to recover improperly receiving improperly not received correctly funding or expended funding of public funds decision on how it was received probably the attorney general asba no not

101the agent they're the ones are they not the ones that ended up coming up with this is their doggone arguments right based on our input this is all scoop school board input and this they are not going after people to recover improperly received or expended public funds they're supporting that somebody who has that ability does that so funding does not get misappropriately spent that's what that says just what they're doing and it states okay right from the very get-go uh right from the very get-go they end up stating that they're all in favor of public schools right because arizona school boards association doesn't say public it says school board okay and what do you have at parochial school or private schools do you have school boards that end up reporting to these people no no

102they report to themselves they report to the people that yes but these people here this is why you know can i can i make a recommendation that you vote yes just vote because it does it's it's okay for everybody to have their own opinions that's why you each have a vote to make and just real quick if there's any direction that the board would like to give me because i'm hearing your concerns and that's fine but it needs to be the board direction so if there's any amendments that you'd like me to offer if there's any specific section that you want me to vote no yes on please just let me know um well i just want to make it clear to the public that um with their concerns that as long as i've been

103on the board i think mrs kibble would agree to this that we have picked a delegation to go represent the school of us personally and we have i think done a fine job going through this and directing you know what we agree with what we don't agree and i don't think we've had any problems having somebody represent us the way that we've requested right and i'll just point out that there were a couple votes last year that i was against personally but i was following board direction and so so well i think like like mr vouters is saying that we can vote on it but you can argue for us things that we're not right for so like is there anything you want yeah so like for me i'll be honest with you the the

104esa voucher program i support school choice i think every parent has the right to put their kid in whatever school they want i do have an issue a little bit with the esa the way the money is being formulated only because i feel like you know what they're funding for a publix for a private school i mean you pay eighty thousand dollars for a private school with seven thousand dollars gonna do so i feel like there's that's still a work in progress so for me i would just not i would take that out which one was that the repeal repeal any program that gives public funds because under roman numeral four right because i really believe parents have the right to choose where their kids go to school absolutely so you're saying you want this

105one taken out yes okay so that's dina and gil does anyone else feel the same way i'm sorry that was what so roman numeral for section two dina would like that part to be removed and i believe gil also said he would like that part to be removed so is there any anyone else who would like that four or four uh roman numeral for section two no well i understand four two but i would also like four four four you too no okay i also would like three three i have a question why do we have to have compulsory attendance age range from 16 to 18 years oh wait a minute or the attainment of a high school diploma or ged okay disregard right disregard yes i can't hear any of that um no i

106mean i'm fine with the ones that if bobby wants to voice this concern on the four i think it was number four i don't have an issue with that which one kimmy um four and four yeah i mean i'm okay with yep sorry so for four and four you want it removed or you're okay with it um i don't have a problem with you voicing your opinion on it i mean if we have it removed and that's the board consensus i don't see an issue with and then is there anything that you want to add that's not listed and you wanted an appointment amended the ones that we compiled are they i don't know if the all r's are in here already did you want me to try that tax credit amendment yes that would

107be awesome thank you okay so you're gonna do the tax credit amendment not the extension number two and number four on four yeah under four and the one that illinois can you about that one right yeah okay right i think it's going well okay something like to make a motion on that yes mrs golf do you need those in the motion or do you wrap them the ones that we're talking about okay give the direction to me so someone else should probably make it i think okay yeah um a motion to approve sorry let me collect myself a motion to direct the district's delegate to the asba delegate assembly to represent the board's determined position to seek an amendment for an extension of the tax credit and then what was the direction on these again

108and then to remove repeal any repeal any program that this gives public funds for private schools vouchers esas and private school subsidies school tuition organizations and prevent any future expansion and to remove enforced financial requirements and seek recovery of improperly received and or expended public funds by charter and private schools and organizations second oh second chris garcia yes mr contio mr potter yes miss kimball yes and i may ask that motion passes back to zero thank you father okay 5.7 possible executive session per ars 38-431.03 a1 discussion on superintendent and admin 2021-2022 performance pay and then also i'm gonna do both right executive session ars 3-431.03.a dot 3 and a7 discussion or consultation for legal advice with district attorney and or designated representative of the district in order to consider its position and instruct its

109representatives regarding negotiation negotiations for release of district property known as thunder mountain middle school property let's send me oh there's three no right yeah somebody like to make a motion to go into executive session madam president i move that we go into executive session to discuss uh or per ars 38-4 .03 section a subsection one and also for executive session under 38-431-4 zero three point eight point three and a-seven in consultation with the district's attorney and also for discussion on uh superintendent administrative uh performance pay second miss garcia bobby second yeah yes mr conceal yes mr potters yes miss kimball yes we are going to executive session ben just text me all right i'm going to put it like this like this i'm going to talk like this now i know but i don't want

110to kiss the microphone you don't have to you just have to be right there look at how close you got to get to it this is how close you have to go they want okay 5.9 approval of the introduction given an executive session oh the governing board may vote to authorize its attorney or representative so you want to make a motion on that oh did i say it yes oh i had it wrong sorry 5.10 well what about the no 5.9 the direction of the attorney yeah right right right don't we have to uh i have 5.9 5.9 for curtis five point yeah 5.10 for the admin pay yeah the ones going into executive session are different than the ones that you vote on right eight and nine were going in 10 and 11. i

111don't have a 5.11. right here there's no 5.11 it's it's 5.95.10. yeah 5.10 is possible action on admin and superintendent performance pay but 5.9 is approval of instruction give no it's all right we can handle it we're flexible direction from the attorney someone want to make a motion on that yeah madam president i am motioned to approve the instruction given an executive session to authorize our attorney or representative to act as instructed oh ok 5.9 is the attorney 5.10 is the performance pay right okay ms garcia yes mr concierge yes mr botters yes ms kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes five to zero five point possible action on admin and superintendent 2021 2022 performance pay somebody like to make a motion so i think we're gonna have discussion first miss garcia

112do you want to start off um we've decided as a board that we're going to not base um these goals for right now on the performance pay we know that everybody's worked really hard and we know that there's been circumstances that have kind of made these three goals um differentiate from each other and so the board has decided um well did you guys want to talk yeah so we've decided to kind of wave these three goals for right now and look past all the other hard work that the staff and the teachers and you yourself have done and maybe um sit down at a work session and re-evaluate our three goals as a board and as a superintendent for yourself that are more manageable to help for future right and we are going to revisit

113the teacher performance right yes and so at a work session we would like to request that we're going to revisit the teachers performance paid to also um do something for them as well right yeah bobby you want to add anything i just want to add that i think our staff has worked really hard this year despite all the craziness and they should be rewarded for the hard work and and realistically the goals that we set coming off of covid kind of make it really hard to attain for a lot of the staff and the teachers i mean it's been crazy this whole year has been crazy so you know putting aside that and then moving forward with more measurable goals more smart goals that we can really focus on moving forward as far as academics

114and performance and things like that and then be able to really evaluate performance pay i think coming off this last year it's not really it's really hard to base on the performance pay on the data that has been received so um giving the administration their full performance pay and and what the board has decided i think is fair we just really appreciate the staff and i think that uh formulation of smart goals at the next work session would be a step in the right direction need to be specific need to have them to where they're attainable well basically using the smart acronym and i think we would end up having more realistic goals all the way around i just want to say one more time we are going to revisit the teacher performance pay yeah

115in the next work session so we can have it in the next work session and then on the agenda in september for approval right right so it'll be basically everyone's rewarded at this moment yeah everybody gets full rewarded yeah okay so madame president i'd like to make a motion to give admin 2500 performance pay and our superintendent of three percent um for the [Music] 2021-2022 performance pay and then also again do i need to make the motion about the brief visiting no no okay that's that's it at the moment a second okay miss garcia yes mr conway wait a minute who gave a second oh okay listen i'm talking to mike here can't you hear me mr cancio i said yes mr batters yes miss kimball yes and i am a yes that motion passes

116five to zero request for future agenda items uh if we could just re-address the or revisit the teacher performance pay and the criteria for next year okay uh yes i'd like to discuss once again school security with regards to i mean we've got two sros but we need to end up doing some more i think also the establishment of us well i think we already covered smart goals for the warm session uh and if there's any more i'll i'll end up emailing them to you anything else good somebody likes to make a motion to adjourn madam president i move that we adjourn second miss garcia yes mr concious yes mr butters yes miss kimball yes
