001sorted based on a personality test by myers-briggs purpose of the sorting is to put them into the four different houses and we want them to be able to not necessarily work with just their grade level but the whole entire school we want kindergarteners to get to know fifth graders and fifth graders to get to know second graders and so on we're building a community here working together and hopefully we can see some great things going on on campus we use it as a positive reinforcement so students actually earn tickets and every ticket that they get goes into their house and at the end of each month we have a house winner and they are rewarded with different prizes some type of special treat for them [Applause] [Music] a volunteer stays with the same three children
002for the entire school year and we train them with the curriculum the seats program and it works on the developmental skills of learning and recognizing letters and numbers and colors is something that a pre-k student can learn the high school students that are working with the Sharpe's are all part of the teal Academy which is our teaching Academy these students have showed interest in wanting to be teachers so any type of early exposure that we can give our high school students working with our VPK students I think it's very beneficial to see whether they want to actually be teachers if students my age like to do I want to teach and be a teacher I think it's a good head start as any one working at elementary school be easier for them to teach the
003kids and know how to work another five weeks I get back the feeling of knowing that I'm helping a little kid learn how to read and count and achieve once we have a superintendents challenge for reading and math one student in the elementary level that one the reading award and they won and iPad and that student is racelle [Applause] last summer I issued the superintendent's summer challenge and you could either take it in math or reading and out of all the high school students the winner is a Pineridge student and they want an iPad every day the second year in the road she took this summer the superintendent's academic challenge she chose reading it's just wonderful that you spent the time this summer investing reading and in math and you're well deserving and it's having

007when we're gonna really talk about our help me out policies policies and I'm sure we may have to workshop some policies because they were talking about some policies I do believe we need to look at for Volusia County school board but if we are looking at items that we want staff to bring forth additional information and have some discussion then that is a work session so before we madam chair would I recommend we probably discuss where we want workshops and where we won't work sessions because the rules for both their different sets of rules okay and both would be open to the public there they're always yes but for the workshops clarifying that workshops public can't participate and when I say participate they can actually come to the mic they would have the same three
008minutes or for whatever our regular school board me to speak to a policy and we could actually come to an agreement that when we go to our meeting that's something we want to vote upon where if it's a work session they cannot participate in the conversation and that normally they're presenting to us some items that we have concerns or we want additional information on for example the June work session and instead of a workshop correct because that's when a lot of items from the district come forward right to introduce us to the new vision of the district I was I was gonna say maybe we could vote on December 12th for sure is our next meeting and then give the staff time to reword this or now can we do it right now so my
009question and it may be what attorney or Mike Dyer can answer can we place on their works session / workshop and then we make a determination prior to that which one you want to seven-day notice correct right these happen oh man have it on the calendar because we have to have it notice are advertised so far in advance so at least that would allow the public to know it could potentially be a workshop or work session so is that okay so my question would be since this has to be submitted to this day are they expecting it to be definitive knowing that we could change it would they accept session / I think that's an excellent suggestion myself to have the opportunity and the alternative and that would meet the the board's needs the district
010needs as well as the public needs so yes so Mis right so where did this come from the difference yesterday from yesterday and so they actually went and just showed us in policy where there's distinctly a difference between a workshop and a work session and so we've been called the workshops and actually with that definition the public should have been able to participate because they were a workshop that's the interest and you have to give 28 days notice for a portion of it you have to give 714 days for another portion and they were explaining all that yeses everything I know the MER keys the water I don't look good in orange so I rather just know yeah my ethics training is next month okay is there a see are there any other is there
