We'll go ahead and call tonight's meeting to order. Today's date is Tuesday, October, sorry, Tuesday, August 12th, 2025 district regular governing board meeting. I'll turn it over to Oh, sorry. Sorry. Let's get this started. Right. As I call the meeting to order, I want to make sure to acknowledge and and of course um lift up the district and support with the mission, vision, and purpose statement. Our vision statement is our students will be loved, encouraged, and prepared to take on the world by embracing our HIMD. Our mission statement is we create healthy, inspiring, motivating, developing, achieving graduates. Our purpose statement is we create nurture a nurturing learning environment for every child every day with an additional commitment to support our himduck. Himuk is the autumn word meaning our way of life. I'll turn it over
to Mr. Sabala for roll call. >> All those present >> okay we do have a quorum. With that, we'll continue with our agenda. Please stand if you're able to join us for the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Come on. I'm afraid it's going to flip. Okay. Quite continuing with our agenda. Our letter D is our routine business. Number one is number one is the approval of the August 12, 2025 board meeting agenda. Uh board members, I do have a couple amendments. Uh amendment number one is addressing resignation. Um the resignation regarding Miss Shila Anton. Uh there is an amendment to the date of um the extension
of the twoe notice from Friday the 15th to the 22nd. That's just um to amend that portion of the agenda. I would also request board members if we can move from consent agenda the reclassification for Miss DJ Ortega to the action item after uh item number three. So it'll be new number four >> that the extra approval of extra duty >> reclass or reclass >> oh uh reclassification for DJ Ortega to action item number four. Is there anything else? If not, a motion to approve with those amendments. >> Second by Miss Sylvia Hendricks. >> Motion. >> Thank you. Uh number two is the approval of the July 8, 2025 public hearing minutes. Um board with your uh without objection would also request to approve July 8, 2025 regular board meeting minutes. Um there are no
objections. So I'll motion to approve. Is there a second? >> Second by Miss Sylvia Hendricks. >> This motion. >> Okay. Continuing with our agenda. Letter E is our information items. Number one is the Himduck award. Mr. Diaz Superintendent. Good. Good afternoon. My name is Ruen Diaz and I am the pro superintendent for Baba Community Unified School District. And at this point, Erin, if you don't mind u bringing up the rec uh the nomination for the uh humidog. Uh-huh. That one. And I do have the email. Um it looks like the attachment is not the correct one on the agenda, but I do have the recommendation. We did receive a a nomination um to acknowledge and celebrate one team. And at this point, I'm going to ask my board members to please come up to the
front. Um we will be um nominating or reading the nomination and I'm going to ask uh President Wendia to read that letter that he wrote um to nominate the department. Um it is with a true honor uh the I call upon the governing board to be able to celebrate and acknowledge and I appreciate members of the team being here today uh showing solidarity and acknowledging the hard work and all of the um different changes that you have made to be able to get to this point. U President Mundy I do have a copy of your letter on the screen as well as the podium. >> Okay. and I do have some words after this. >> Thank you. Good evening. Um I'm very excited of course uh and again as Mr. Diaz mentioned and I think
as the board understands um the HIMD award I think is something that we definitely want to make sure we're we're emphasizing and lifting up when um there's an opportunity to and I definitely saw that this was an opportunity to lift up some individuals who I think we don't really consider as uh as important as I think they they should and should know that they are. Um the HIMDoug award of course in is inspired by our mission statement by recreate healthy inspiring motivating developing achieving graduates and as our transportation department uh has been made aware or at least I hopefully has been made aware through not only conversations with myself but especially from from from the board's perspective in in in conversations at all. I'll tell you 100,000% uh as a board member, it is it
is eerie to hear nothing, but it is also 100% I'm I'm grateful that we heard and hear nothing as it comes as it as it pertains to transportation as unlike how we used to before. Um I remember standing up here when we were having those same conversations with family members who were really really upset with us about transportation. And so I hopefully that this helps us all to kind of feel the same as not only as a community but as as an individual from the board standpoint or in general that we've really made some some great strides and you all are the reason for that. So thank you so much. On behalf of the Barbara Unified School District governing board, I'd like to recognize and commend our transportation department for their exceptional commitment, preparation, and
service during the start of the 2025 2026 school year. This year's school opening was outstanding to say the least and much of that success is owed to the to the dedication of our transportation team. They are first to greet they are the first to greet our students each morning and the last to ensure they return home safely each day. Their professionalism, professionalism, attention to detail and ability to work together as a cohesive unit truly reflect the spirit and the values of BD and HIMD in recognition of their dedication and this important role. um and and the important role they play in their success of our district. I'm recommending that the transportation department um recommending the transportation department for the HIMD award to be presented at the BUSD governing board meeting on August 12, 2025. And
we extend our deepest gratitude to each member of the transportation department for their time, effort, and teamwork. Their role is vital to setting a positive tone for our students. Um students daily experiences and the impacts uh as felt is felt far beyond the bus ride. President members of the board and um and colleagues here present as well members of the community. Um three years ago we started a new journey uh to be able to reinvent um our our systems in place by clearing the land. Um but we didn't in in the process we also cleared the the buses. Um I was asking our our members of the team to be bold to be brave and to become part of the BSD family and we embrace a partnership as well um with Beline as well as
members of the for um members of the former transportation department. this um last year I was asking members of the team to leave a footprint behind um every step that we take to make sure that it shows that we're moving forward but you're leaving a legacy behind of what you're doing this year in the beginning of the year during the kickoff I ask let's make this year from ordinary to the ex to extraordinary and I want to point out that the transportation um department is an example of all three models that we've been uh rolling out during the last three years one by be involved in making uh those changes and coming together and bringing the team together and making um the necessary changes to be able to provide the most important part which is
picking up the kids and leaving them behind. Uh without transportation we won't have schools especially the number of students that we transport. Um, having said that is, uh, you also taking the time to collaborate with all of our schools, um, and and and in and reaching out to the families in ways to improve our system, looking for ways and not only how to be more financially responsible, but also how to improve the communication and the service that we provide to our parents. I appreciate your communication. I appreciate your support. I appreciate your commitment and your collaboration. And as a result, I I'm going to ask the transportation members of the team present to please come forward to receive the teamwork uh him award um and take a picture with all of us and also uh
to let us acknowledge you. So come on up and let's give a big round of applause. I'm taking pictures. congratulations. >> And then it says um team together everyone achieves more. Coming together is a is is a beginning. Keeping together it's a progress. Working together is success. Teamwork makes the dream work. Congratulations. We are very proud. Thank you. >> What do we do? Hearts. Thumbs up. >> Thumbs up. All right. Thumbs up. >> Awesome. Keep it up. Keep it up. >> I got to put in a wreck now for a display case. >> Good night. Okay. >> Bench. I just want to confirm we're not addressing the TSA achievement memo. >> I want to confirm we're not addressing the TSA achievement memo that's attached. >> No. >> Okay. Okay. With that, that concludes our HIDuck
award portion of the agenda this evening. Uh, number two is the Barbecq Unified School District governing board financial report. Miss Clementina Carlo, >> good evening, President Bendia, governing board members, superintendent Diaz, colleagues, everybody here. I'm going to be going over the student activities and auxiliary balances through 7312025 and this is for fiscal year 25. It's still during the incumbrance period. So the only activity in the student activities account was in the class of 2025 for the dispersements only who part uh dispersements to students who participated in fundraising last year. The total disperment dispersement was $8,470.88 for 22 students in the amount of $3854 each. The ending balance for the student activity account on July 31st, 2025 was 92,1214. And the student auxiliary account had deposits totaling $145 for activities fees, $25 for the high school,
and 120 for the middle school. The ending balance for the student auxiliary account on July 31st was $3,38729. Are there any questions? >> Questions from the board to the student auxiliary accounts? No questions. >> Thank you. Which one do you want? >> The expenditure report, >> not the memo. It's the third one. Okay. So again, we're still in the incumbrance period. Um we will not be reporting fiscical year 26 information until October or November. um attached. You can see that the expenditures for through July 731, 2025. Um at the time that I submitted the memo, there was only 17 open purchase orders, but as of today, there's seven purchase orders that are open. There are no longer any negative budget balances, and we will continue to move allow allowable expenditures into the maintenance and operation
to maximize the state equalization funds. We have a little over 500 million and um we were advised to have it like 475,000 for the carry forward for the new year. So we still have some journal entries to to do. Um overall 75.5% of the budget for all funds are expended andor encumbered leaving a budget balance of 2450%. The average for expenditures through July are 100% and B USD has spent 73.39% of the budget from all funds not including incumbrances. Public districts are allowed to continue paying invoices for goods and services received by June 30th, 2025 through the incumbrance period of August 27, 2025 and that's with Pima County. Are there any questions? >> Questions from the board. No questions. >> Okay. And then finally, um I guess the board requested an update for the audit
for the performance audit and that was fiscal year 2022 and the fiscal year 2024 90-day letter. Um the last communication we had with the AG's office regarding the performance audit was Friday, July 25th when we uploaded requested files. Um, we have not had any updates related to the performance audit. And on July 30th, we met virtually with Paula Gustoson from the AG's office. Um, and she just basically went over the documents that we submitted. There are no updates regarding the 90-day letter. All re requested documentation has been submitted and we were informed in the meeting that we would be contacted within the next two weeks. Any questions? >> Thank you. >> No questions. Thank you, Miss Carlo. >> Number three is a grant school budget update. Mr. President media, members of the board and members
of the community. At this point, I'm going to ask our grants um director. Um this is also a board request uh that resulted from from the retreat. Um it was also uh based on on what else is happening at the federal level. Um the request was um what additional funding our schools or supplemental funding our schools are receiving. Um, and I have asked um, director Allison Cornell to be able to provide that information and be available for any questions that you may have. Allison, >> good evening. Uh, President Bonia, board members, Superintendent Diaz. So, uh, Erin, if you scroll down just a little bit. Um, I've broken down the budgets for each of the sites, and these are budgets, uh, mainly for supplies. I haven't included any salaries in this. Um, on the left hand
side, you'll see M. So, M health supplies and M office supplies, those are all state funds. They're based on enrollment. Um, when we got our when we did the standards in February, we approved M is $25 per student. Uh, the M health supplies and office supplies are both $2 per student. And so, that's where those numbers come from. Um, each school has a a set amount depending on their enrollment. And then all the other funds on to the right of those, title one A, title six, um, and then each each site has different pots of money. Those are all grants. So those are all federal supplemental grants. Um, you'll notice primary has um the FTF, which is for preK, and then they also have an early literacy grant, which is K3. Um the intermediate school
also has their 21st century grant and the SSI which is the new school improvement grant. Uh Bobby Middle School their only other one other than title one and title six is the SSI grant and then the high school has several pots of money for CTE. So they have Perkins which is a federal grant, CTE state and then Jed. And then finally, our alternative high school and middle school. They have the C a CSI grant this year and this one is new. It's a different CSI grant than the previous ones. So that's about where everybody's at. Um the title one balances will change. We finally got approval that everything's going to be unfrozen. I'm just waiting for the state to approve the grant so that I can then revise the grant and everything will kind of
increase. But so that is some good news that we have there. >> Okay. >> Awesome. Thank you so much for compiling the information and getting it back to us. Appreciate that. Any other questions from the board? If not, >> thank you, Miss Cornell. >> Thank you. >> Love the spirit. Thank you. >> We're going to summon you in every meeting now. >> Uh number four this evening is our Barber Unified School District School Principal Reports. At this point, um, President Media, members of the board, uh, please help me welcome with a big round of applause to our principal for our primary school, Miss Enriquez, um, Benson. Sounds funny. Um, good evening, President Bundia, governing board members. I have submitted um, my report in writing. I hope you've had an opportunity to read it. Uh we
started our first two weeks in July strong with uh 94% attendance. Um I guess I can scroll down, right? >> Scroll down. >> Sure. To the attendance section. Oh, right there. So all grade levels were over 90%. Um I did want to explain that if you notice now the table um is split with prek being that prek's ADM doesn't get reported to the state. So when we do the average throughout the year prek because they get sick faster they contract a lot of germs. Um we include that in our overall schoolwide which brings that percentage down. So, we wanted to show you, we still want to collect prek percentage data, but we didn't want to include it in the schoolwide percentage being that we wanted to show what K3 is getting throughout the year. Um,
so they're currently at 94%, we're hoping to maintain that throughout the year, but I just wanted to explain that. Um, and we can show the video >> the interventions. >> Do you want me to do that now or after the video? >> You you can do it after. Um and sorry. Um we were also asked to provide what we're doing at the school level in regards to behavior. Um a lot of those behaviors usually happen at the beginning of the year with our kinder and prek students who have never been in school. So they're still learning rules, routines, and procedures. Um next week we are going to start with behavior plans if needed. Um we're following protocols as far as what can we do in the classroom first to see how we can prevent the
uh disruptions and the defiancy and then uh we do call home, we do call parents, we are involving parents in the process um with the students so that way we can decrease those um infractions. You know what I wanted to mention about behaviors and this was had to do with parents is that I did notice that they're actually getting done and bringing their kids in now except for I saw one that didn't which I kind of I was like okay. But as far as on the side of behaviors I'm glad that you guys are kind of also making sure to keep that um at the front of their and let everybody know >> right >> you need to get down and bring your child. We're also pushing the use of crosswalk, not just with community
members, but staff members as well. >> And I did see >> when some people come, they just cross the street. And so we have a new SRO, I don't know if you've met him, SRO Bailey. Okay. >> Um he's actually been setting up post at the end of the day and he'll get on his loudspeaker and remind parents to start using the walk. So that's decreased a bit after school. Um, but we're trying to obviously lead by example and so we're really pushing that as well. >> Right. And of course if anybody that I know that I see doing that, I'm like, "Hey, come on. Let's let's use the crosswalk." But yeah, I I understand we all got to get somewhere, but let's do it safely. Yes. >> So, I just wanted to mention that
because I see it. It's awesome. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Now, you can push Clay. Any other princy any other principal? Any other questions for principal Enriquez Benson? >> I was just wondering about your um your enrollment. Um I didn't get a chance to check last year's enrollment. Has it gone up? >> I think we're about the same. I know we've been getting kids slowly coming in. Um we're at 3 we lost >> 325 >> we lost two today so we're down to 323. >> Um but usually by October we're up at 350. So it just varies. Um for whatever reason sometimes they start the kids somewhere else and then they'll bring them over after they realize our school's better. Um, >> and then do you check on the ones that >> why like
if they were in second grade and they should have moved up to third grade but they didn't show up. >> Yeah. So, we do have we do the first 10 days of school we do a a warm body count of each student to see who's coming, who's not coming as we start noticing the first five days they're not here. um the office staff is making phone calls to see because there were a few that did do the online registration but then they stopped coming. So then they'll make phone calls and then oh we decided to go either we moved to town or whatever the case may be. So we've had to drop a few because they they either moved or they registered somewhere else. >> So they don't autom withdraw to go to another school.
>> They're supposed to. So then our office staff reminds them you have to come. And it's weird because other schools shouldn't be accepting students until they're officially withdrawn from another school, but for whatever reason, they still allow them to. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. >> That was good. That was going to be a question, too, but thank you for for kind of diving into that. Mr. Yes, President Media, members of the board. Um I would like to also acknowledge um uh we have two great levels that we're over 95% at the primary for the month of um July. So it's starting strong. Thank you for being bold and being brave and it's starting off with a with a very high percentage especially two grade levels over 95%. Congratulations. >> Thank you. Miss Vance. >>
Okay. Yeah. I just wanted to again just congratulate you for the attendance. Um, so I know that your staff is really working hard to make sure that the kids are there and and I know that during the um the retreat where we talked about um doing something to make sure that the parents are aware how important it is to um get the kids to school and to make sure that they're in school. So um just congratulations. And I I wasn't there this year, but I know last year was really exciting and I I missed it this year, but ah >> it was really good. And and to add to what you guys acknowledged, transportation, we were even like, how come we haven't got any calls yet? Because we usually lose one >> and they did
an awesome job in getting kids where they needed to be. We had no issues with transportation at all. And that that's a first, you know. So, um thank you Hopefully not the last one. >> If we could also get your help in spreading the word that dismissal has changed this year cuz we still have some parents checking kids out at 2:20 when we still have another 30 minutes of instruction. We've been trying to post it on social media, but word of mouth is also nice as well. >> What's the time again? >> 2:50. >> While they're listening. >> So 2:50 for >> 250 is our dismissal time. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. Now, please help me welcome uh Miss Joligay, principal for our intermediate. Let's give her a round of applause. Good evening
board members, President Buendia, and Superintendent Diaz and community members listening. So, uh, our school, um, we are having fun by getting all this extra money with this with our grants. So, we've been doing a lot of planning with our afterchool um, in program with the Nita M. Lowry 21st century community learning grant. So, right now we are in the process of planning how we're going to make that happen. We have some ideas on the um principal report of what we would be what we will be doing for um four different sessions as well as embedding our interventions in there so that our students can have um access to our academic standards as well as having fun at the same time. And then with our project momentum, we're trying to come up with ideas of how
to make sure that our teachers are given enough time to plan their effective lessons and interventions because all grade levels do have a um intervention block of 30 minutes that all staff support with so that we could have smaller groups at each grade level. So the specialist teachers help and our ESS teachers so that we can better serve our students. And then on the second page for our RCA um we have >> is it Oh, you want me to go? I thought I thought you were doing it for me. >> Which page do you want to be on? the second page where it has the RCA efforts. Um, we have a lot of cool items. Um, I accidentally wrote the wrong address, so all these boxes are at my house in the front, which is
pretty scary. Um, but we do have um multiple items that are coming to our campus. Um but in the future we plan to include the translation due to the new u resolution. We purchased these items a year ago or had it in in place a year ago um based off of the being a beneficiary with the Desert Diamond Casino. So, this quote that we had was off of last year's. And so, the only thing that we are able to translate is the shirt um because the the RCA logos are trademarked. So, we the only thing we really can change is the the shirt the shirts. Um and then I think that's it. interventions for discipline. >> For intervention for discipline, um we have a PBIS system that we will have in place. We will have
these humongous signs for every room. Um, we'll have specific behavior expectations for the cafeteria, for the library, for the classroom, for the bathroom, for hallways. Um, so these PBIS signs that will be put up everywhere um are on their way. Um, they are coming from JOM. So, thank you to JOM for um purchasing those items. Um it took a it took quite a long time to put those together and to design them. So they are in they are in route to get to our campus. And so that's going to be our big push for our interventions with behavior as well as our essential 44 which aligns with our um engagement and RCA goals that we have in place for our school. And then that's it. You can show our video. And in our video, I
just now realized I forgot a slide for the mission and vision. >> Yes. I'll start clapper. I'm just kidding. Um, thank you so much, Miss By Lewis. Uh, company board members, anything for the report? Miss Hendricks? >> Um, I was just look I was just wondering because um, and it's great. I mean, doesn't look like you had any um discipline issues because I didn't see it in your report. No, >> which is great. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you, >> Miss Vance. >> And again, congratulations on the attendance. >> Yes. Um I it could have been a lot better. Um we had a uh quite a few kids out for the first eight days. or nine days. They showed up like the ninth or tth day because I don't know, there was this big family that
went on this big trip and multiple kids were out. They were gone the whole time. So, families out there, please plan accordingly. >> No, I know it's a good point. I think that there's there was a lot of confusion on like the start day and I'm like I know we approved these calendars like way ahead of time so y'all know the the days that we're starting school but um I guess that's something to think about in the future just to really push on. Hey, I know we did and I'm not saying we didn't but for whatever reason everybody had amnesia about what the start day was and when and that it was a half day. Why? I'm like come on y'all but acknowledged and and I agree. I'm really glad that y'all kind of touch
on the enrollment part, the enrollment to attendance. And so I it always kind of makes me think about um within that time period or at least the 10 days when we're talking about counting warm bodies made me giggle. But that part because when to start off the year at say 90% or or less, you're counting whoever all enrolled and whoever showed up to that enrollment. And so there's if there was 100, there's 10 that are missing, missing or at least not here. But this is in that in that span of what eight days, nine days, 10 days. >> Yeah, they were they were gone. those those group of students were gone for nine days, but it would have helped if they maybe registered later. >> Oh, true. >> That was another thing that was really
good that we didn't hear a lot of um backlash about the enrollment part. You know what I mean? Everybody understood that if you didn't enroll or you enrolled at a certain time, then you weren't going to be able to be at school. So, I was really glad to not have to hear anything about that, which was I thought was a good thing. So, thank you so much for the report. Oh, wait. Miss Hendris, >> what is your enrollment? I was trying to look for that. >> 243. >> 200. And the difference between you you lost or what gain? >> We're about the same. Um, yeah, we did lose quite a few students, but we gained a lot of more students. So we have probably about 10 new students have never been in the district. >>
Okay. Good. Thank you. >> Thank you. Yes, Mr. Diaz. >> Um I have to give a shout out to Miss Tbala. Uh her attendant was 99% for the month of July. Um I think this is the first 99 I've ever seen so far. But I I need to acknowledge the that particular classroom and thank you for anything that the teacher is doing and supporting and and encouraging the students to be uh present for 99% of the time. Congrats. >> Yes, she was the first class to have 100% attendance on one of the days. >> Thank you, Miss Pig. Please help me welcome put your hands together to welcome uh Miss An Constit. Please give her a round of applause. >> Good evening board members, President Buendia and Superintendent Diaz and everyone else here. Um so
our fabulous six days of July um we had almost 100 families come to meet the teacher. So we had 100 um kiddos come to meet the teacher. And I'm going to answer this question before Miss Sylvia asks. We als we currently have 402 students enrolled um on the middle and high school. Middle school is at 166. High school's at 236. So that's a little higher than it was last year. >> Good. >> Um so and so to have 100, that's a quarter of the families that came out that day. Mhm. >> Um, going down, if you notice, middle school has 90% or more of attendance. The first time in a while, we're at 93%. >> 93%. And >> if we round up schoolwide, we're really close to that 90%. >> It counts. It counts. >>
No, no, no, no, no. We go to the 10th. We're honest. >> Okay. I could round it up, but no. And then what else? >> And seniors. >> Oh, our seniors. Yeah. Go down to the counselor report. The one right there. Yeah. Thank you. So, when you look at this right now, we have 31 seniors who are 17 credits. They're on track. Pass this class. They're good. We have 13 students who have less than 17 credits. So, they either came to a slate with a discrepancy. they weren't passing their classes. It's a variety of reasons. They've transferred in from back from alts. Like it's just various reasons, but we have 13 of them. 13. We have 13 students who may have 17 credits, but they don't have those required credits. So, they might be missing
nth grade English. So, we have them in a different category, which means that creditwise they're good. However, they have a they have one that's required that they're not fulfilled at this point yet. Um they are in credit recovery working on that and so are some of the students in the red, but we are working with them to get them to where they need to be. Um our hope is by December all them yellow or green and then we have less in the red parts but that's when we'll be able to get our next one at the end of the so it would be January at the January board meeting. But that's what it looks like now. >> Yeah. >> Interventions for this And then one thing Miss Ruben wanted to mention, um, you see the
disciplines, they are higher than normal. Why? Because the vape sensors are new. So, we're catching every single one of the students. Um what we need what's good to know is this happened the first six days um since August we have less than less of those incidents in um alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. So it's going down as students are seeing that they can't just go into the bathroom and vape. And we are excuse me Mr. Russell and our behavioral support specialists are actually working on a curriculum for those students who are caught in the area. They happen to be in the restroom, but they were in there with four other people. Um, so kind of a segue of vape education. They're looking at their options right now to go ahead and assist to ensure that
they are not making that choice. And then our middle school, we just we didn't just we had a fight on campus, which don't know where that came from. It was Yeah. So when they come back, they will have a restorative circle and we'll go from there. I have a question. >> For the um for the um the the the vacant portion, is it going to be um like a schoolwide um assembly type of thing or is it just I mean because I know that a lot of kids don't understand the effects that it has on your body. Um, and I've seen I've seen um reals >> where it shows like the internal organs that are really, you know, me mess get messed up when when they start doing that. Um, and I don't think a
lot of kids Well, maybe they do and maybe they just don't think it what happened to them, but it's really it's really dangerous. I mean, because there's all these chemicals that are in there that's that >> their bodies aren't used to, and especially when they're that young, it's just it could have a a lasting impact and and it's just to me it's really important to to have like a schoolwide something to show. But I was just asking them >> right now the So, let me start. So, we did go ahead and talk to students about vaping so they knew about the consequences. That was a schoolwide assembly or in cohorts. So we had seventh grade come in together, eighth grade, um, high school did theirs alto together. So they are aware of the consequences of
the vaping just of the of doing it, the act of doing it. As far as the health reasons, um, we haven't been able to have a all campus thing. What Mr. Russell was thinking was more of a diversion. You know how when you like go speed and then you take a traffic ticket instead of getting that punishment, that's the kind of lesson he's looking for. So, it's not about like it's going to do this to you. It's more of a diversion like we'll show you other things and other ways to go around it. Um, excuse me. I think it would be important if the community could come in, if we could have health people who could actually show the effects, I think that would be beneficial to the students because they do need to know
the risk of it, especially since we're fortunately it wasn't at the middle school side, it was the high school side that was vaping. But the threat's there. Um, but we don't have anything in that planned, but I we would be open to a schoolwide I would like the cohorts because they'll pay attention with less students in there. Oh, and it's not unique to our school because I I recently attended a um focus group amongst all. So I'm really glad that the deterrent at least that the the the sensors are there which a lot of schools are already have been already using which deters. Um, but I agree and I don't want to put it just on yourself, but I don't know how we can try and and look at some sort of um partnership with
somebody to come in and actually give that. I remember not to be not to make not to not to I remember being in school and they actually showed you things like they made you not want to, >> you know, engage with things because >> whether it was alcohol, you know, showing you the vehicles that are all twisted up in metal and all. I mean, not not to to give it that factor of that fear factor, but essentially that's what you're doing to yourself and what could possibly happen. >> And I think that that's where we need to be when it comes to having people understand that there's a reason it comes from a place of we don't want to punish you. We want to we want you to learn. First of all, you're here to
get your education. Second of all, take care of yourself, your body, your mind, your soul, your spirit. Miss Hendricks. Well, I was just going to mention several years ago, a few years ago, I think Ann, you had provided a a video or somebody, but it's for parents to find out to learn more about vaping, what it does to to to students, you know, and what consequences are and things like that, you know, in in regards to their health and their performance, you know, how it >> inhinders their performance in school, you know, things like that. But that was some time ago that was and it was presented for it was a remember they used to do these parent um um sessions and I remember that was one of them. >> We would be open to
it but the reality is my an English teacher on campus are they the expert in vaping? No, they're not. So we need so we would need like a community partnership or someone who actually knows the full effects who can give that information. But our classroom doors are open and we can arrange times for something like that. >> Well, one of the things I think we need to consider as well is that maybe it needs to be districtwide and not just at secondary campus >> because it's not just on you guys. I mean, there these are learned things that they kind of come into and by the time they get to that age in high school, some of them are able to purchase those things on their own if they're of age um or have money
or have somebody who will do it for them. But I think trying to deter that it as far as what I've been able to see, there are some at least preventative or prevention types of courses that can be brought in that can start earlier as opposed to later. So we're catching them sooner than than by the time they get to that point where they're doing it, but I know we're all I know we're all aware of that which which which we can u start to make sure we're trying to get ahead of it. Anything else for um Miss Spence? >> Just just um wanting to uh acknowledge the attendance >> for the site. I mean, oh my gosh, >> it is 90%. >> Just below the 90% for this guy, for this site. And that's
awesome. Um, I mean, if you look at the the statistics from last year and just this first month and I so I don't know what your site has done different, but congratulations because it's working. Whatever you're doing, it's working. just keep continuing to do that because I I mean I know the transportation plays a big part in that. But I think the outreach to parents to to to let them know that there the kids need to be in school and being on time is really important for uh especially when you're start working, >> you know, you got to be there just there, you know. So congratulations on that. And then whatever it is you're doing for the vaping part, you know, keep working on it because our our our kids uh they don't know they
don't know those things. So, thank you. >> This point, please help me welcome uh Ms. Mason, a proud principal for the um accelerated high school, middle school, and high school. Let's give her a round of applause. Thank you. Good evening, President Buendia, uh board members, superintendent Diaz, and community listeners. Um we have the highlights of the month. So up here we have the total number of students enrolled at the time of the that the report was written. Um we had 51 students enrolled, 45 of those um attending. Um currently we have um students in high school enrolled and nine middle school students enrolled um as of today. Um other highlights are listed there as far as um students participating in athletics. Um seniors, returning seniors, we are looking at three possible December graduates. Um we
have been meeting with uh TLCC for dual enrollment classes in other areas than other than the dual language uh opportunity they have with the te language. There's also writing uh electives and other courses that our students are signing up for and writing. Um we have established advisory cohorts as well as on that list. See if I can manipulate this. All right. And of course the um skip that they're essential items that were on the board. our stretch goals, our activities uh through our Egeneuity, which is our digital platform, our core curriculum there. Um for the sixth graders for the month of July, um there are um no activities completed there, but that's because there's an issue with the uh the learning center over the JDC. The air conditioner is broken. So, the learning center at
this moment is um unopen to our students there. Uh for 7th graders we had 73 completed um activities 8th grade 126 9th 107 10th 239 11th 443 53 sorry 12th 125 for a total of 2323 and this is the two weeks of July not including August as well as for those two two weeks of July of uh school days we have the attendance listed as well. And we uh as mentioned before because of the of established um sensors that we have in the restrooms right now, we do have for the month of July two incidents that did occur in the high school and zero for our middle school students to report on. Other areas to report on um as well we have um support and challenge are communicating and talking to our students and our
parents. The numbers are there as well as our goals for this uh by quarter. As far as our culture and language efforts, as far as interventions, um we do have uh a few items there are listed um particularly for our school. Um we have reached out to outside agencies. We partner with community- based organizations such as Inter Mountain Centers, um youth on their own and other local service providers. We also have provided uh referrals for mental health counseling, substance use intervention, mentorship, and family support services. We also maintain regular communication with agencies to ensure coordinated care and followup. Uh the second intervention I want to report on is ongoing student check-ins. These are continuous um on the daily and sometimes um very individual. They go over general uh academic progress. We review transcripts credit um
approval like as far as uh what they're looking at for graduation and their planning with that including our JDC academic uh tutor that's over at JDC right now. That's also something I wanted to mention as an intervention. Um it uh alleviates and transitions our students out of JDC into our school a lot smoother when um that JDC academic tutor is in place. Uh social emotional well-being is another intervention that we would like to acknowledge. We monitor stress levels depending on our student or individual students, coping strategies, personal challenges through one-on-one, sometimes small group check-ins, but uh uh lately it's been um mostly one-on-one. We also uh behave uh monitor the behavior um set short-term behavioral goals and track the progress with our students. Uh third intervention that I'd like to report on is re-entry support
meetings. This is where we conduct structured re-entry meetings with students, parents, guardians, and support staff who are available at the moment and can attend following disciplinary action such as um out of school suspensions um or extended absences or even crisis events. Uh, another intervention is developing and tailoring success plans that include academic and behavioral social emotional supports. Assign students one um to one of our three advisory teachers. So our teachers have uh um distributed our students evenly as they come in um to uh the three teachers or three um that we have right now is advisory uh groups in which they communicate and document information that's part of interventions. The fourth uh intervention that I'd like to mention is restorative practices. This is uh ongoing implementing restorative circles to address conflicts, repair harm, rebuild trust
among the students and the staff and especially me since I'm new and transitioning in. Um I definitely play a huge part in that right now with our students in that intervention. Um, two more things that I'd like to um mention that I noted down is um it's uh also uh very inviting to our students at the moment with an intervention to facilitate uh for our students to share their perspective and listen and also engage in um whatever it is we are tending to because they're at a young age where their voices um should be heard and are definitely being heard. and we take those into consideration to discuss our next steps together. Um, and of course the use of restorative conversations are always in place as an intervention. A few other things that um came
along as I was listening um the rest of our colleagues speak is that uh we have um a Narcan training coming up at our school site. They're going to come out and uh train our teachers and staff um how to use Narcan and administrate it if we ever need it. mind and body medicine. There will be um we have a contact who was introduced to us and we plan to and uh begin meeting with the mind and body medicine uh vaping prevention presenters or presentations and these are coming from um reaching out to the health human services here with the autham nation. So those are a few of our interventions right now that I wanted to mention. I think I got everything. And then we have a small short but sweet video. Uh, are there
any questions for uh, Accelerate? >> Thank you for um, your report. Um, I don't have any questions. I think you covered everything that I've been asking. Okay. Oh, Miss Vance, anything? >> Um, congratulations, Isabelle. >> Yes. >> Um, I was uh looking at the um the attendance portion and um we actually have percentages that are really good. Um, also I just want to acknowledge that there was the the seven perfect attendance for the high schoolers and uh five perfect attendance for the middle schoolers. So that's really that's good. That's good. Um I I know you mentioned um all u some of the programs that you were looking at um for the for the year. Um, and I'm glad you did because like the report doesn't show that and there's a lot of stuff going on
that you're doing and um, so I'm glad that you you mentioned that because it's really important. Um, so, um, congratulations on your statistics and, um, congratulations, Isabelle. And I like the, um, the stretch goals that you're looking at with the the ack, um, the quarter one, two, three, and four. So, um, thank you. >> You're welcome, >> Mr. Diaz. President Mia, members of the board, members of the community and members of the team. Um, I want to give a shout out to all of my principles. Um, besides transportation, the next hardest part of the job that we have, it's it's also running the schools and and and teaching our students. Uh, we had a smooth transition also at the school level. Um, and that's thanks to all the preparation, the leadership, and all the hard
work that our principles and administrators um have done over the summer to be able to reopen the school. Um I also want to um acknowledge and thank our administrators for updating their board um the governing boardroom displays. Um I know those are going to be changed every quarter but thank you for your creativity and thank you for bringing life into the boardroom as well um with bringing us a little piece of your school. Um also want to thank um not only the principles but also um our district affairs manager Mud Dan. she has updated the beginning opening page for um the logos and and the videos and the quick turnar around to be able to make it within the first month is going to take a while to be changing. It's like peeling an onion
every time every time we change something something else comes up. But as we finding those we're making those changes um the new logo and and and the starting I want to thank them for um including it. I also want to thank our principles for making the effort and making sure that everything that they're showing they're demonstrating and connecting it to our our goals and their goals. That way they show um we are demonstrating solidarity and working towards the same goals as well. U big shout out to my principles. Thank you for a great start and keep up the hard work. Congratulations. Back to you with thank you. Thank you. Thank you all so much for the reports. Um, we'll move on this evening. Number five is the barbecue school district opening board members reports. >>
Sie uh I'll be pretty brief. Um I did attend the kickoff for the school district on behalf of the governing board which was really exciting and great to see. Um did stay for half of the day at least. Um 100% want to want to continue to acknowledge just as Mr. Diaz did that uh all of you uh each of you that puts in the effort, the time and and really gives u much of yourselves to this school district. It is it is truly um I'm I'm I'm grateful and I'm honored to be able to to be a part of it. Um I think that as we as we continue um wanting to engage more uh not only with um the community, but even as board members or as individuals uh from the community just seeing
uh seeing what you all are doing. Um, I think for myself as a board member, it's always um it's always inspiring. And so, thank you all so much uh for for for committing yourselves to our our community. Um, I'm sure that there's a bunch Oh, I also came to the What else did I come to, Ruben? Um, the new teachers induction. Is that what it's called? The which just very briefly to introduce myself and to also acknowledge those new teachers that present. uh also helped to coordinate their visit to go all to the NAFA site. Um I wasn't able to make it. Uh again, you know, I think that as a as a member as a as a father and and additionally um just trying to find the time as well, uh I was pretty
bummed out I couldn't make it because I really like to to see and engage. Uh, and I love that our district does provide that opportunity for teachers that are either new or or maybe um came in throughout the year, that opportunity to see how far our students actually travel to actually come to school, to see the road conditions, to see the differences in the villages because every village, I will tell you right now, it's not the same. Um, they all have very different um um they're very different. And I think that's one of the things I wanted to try and impress or at least try to continue to to share is that you can't really lump any of us into into one little um category. You know, we we may be Donna Autumn, but but
when you go down to villages and districts, it is a very different experience for each of us, especially outside of cells. Um, I do want to make sure again to acknowledge that uh as as as board members, I know we're asking of you to do um like reports or to look at how you are um uh approve or requesting travel or all of those things, but also holding us to the same um holding ourselves at least. I want to acknowledge that that's the reason we continue to put this information into public content under under my report because attending the summer leadership institute um summer leadership conference uh for ASBA was definitely something that I think that I you kind of take some things for granted I think as a board member but there is always
always always something to learn and things change. Um, there are ways and means. I think that the school systems actually live, breathe, work, and being that we are a public school on tribal lands, it doesn't mean that we're outside of that that that um we may have uh some liberties as as a governing board, but I want to make sure that we're also continuing to to engage and understand and uh further our understanding as board members. So, as those things are presented, um I think that us as a board have agreed that we would start to make sure we're not only downloading or reporting or taking information or bringing it back, not only and reporting it, but providing some insight. Um, and I know I had my notes prior, but um unfortunately I didn't bring
them this evening. So, I just wanted to acknowledge that the the three reports that are in the um um board docs were were were portions of the summer leadership institute that I attended that I thought were really important to at least bring forward and and kind of provide. Now, we've had discussions about these at our retreat, but for the sake of the public and for those maybe I know that during the retreat it was a little hard to hear. Um and and of course also want to continue to acknowledge and and and express to the public that this information is for for you as well to review, to see, to look at documentation, all of those things. Um I think that goes back to what I really want to make sure everyone is understanding is
about um which we didn't have on the agenda this this month, Mr. Sabalo, but calls to the audience are are extremely important for your engagement as a as a public member. Um so please please please if there are any questions um to call to the audience Mr. Sabalis the board secretary as well as the exe um um executive assistant to Mr. Diaz and there there may be and could be things that you can engage in and that's the portion that you want to make sure that you're you're paying attention to as a community member. Um yes there are rules. Um yes there are ways that we can respond and cannot respond to those uh call to the audience but it essentially is your opportunity to ask and to voice and to make sure that you
are um highlighting anything that you wish to regarding the agenda that month. Um now there are limitations to what we can respond to and limitations to what you can actually um ask about but again um I think that over the course of the last six years that I've been a board member it's been it's really become a lot more easier being that people understand that they are to follow chains of command and direct them back to where they're supposed to be. Now, there are instances and or individuals that may come forward to us. And please understand, I want everybody I know that you know this if you've been here, but if you are new to the school district, know that there's probably like two degrees of separation between a lot of individuals that go to
the our schools and anyone at this board. That means there are a lot of family members. There are a lot of cousins, aunties, uncles, sisters, brothers, whatever it may be that go to our schools and yes, they do talk to us. Yes, that means you are asked uh as board members to make sure you are I mean as as members of the school district to uphold your integrity, to make sure you are carrying yourself the way that you're supposed to because it will some way somehow always get back to the board. And I've tried to make sure that those things are directed to the superintendent and or where they need to be. But I just wanted to make sure that that is very clear. We are a very small community. Um, regardless of the miles
and miles between us. Um, and I just want to make sure that everyone's understanding that that is very important because I do not like to hear anything about someone either not being professional or misrepresenting this school district in any way because I know we're way better than that. So, um, that is my report. And again, board members, please make sure that we're as as we're asking them to do reports that we're we're trying to make sure we're also, um, providing some form of a report, whether it's a a visit, professional development, and or something you just want to make sure is expressed from your position as board members um, moving forward. with that and um as there's nothing else move number six is our B community school district superintendent report. Mr. Diaz >> President members
of the board um thank you so much um for for your report. Um and at this point yes we are going to go into the number six superintendent report. Um before um I begin if you don't mind opening my report. Um there is a a new layout of my uh superintendent report. Um and this is in response to the recommendation given uh by the governing board during a retreat. Um and in consultation with the board president and the board clerk um and under the leadership this is what is a new uh superintendent report look like. Um it does have not only a mission but it also has the main topics um uh for the month of June highlighting um through the lens of the superintendent what was done to support each one of the goals.
Um the goals are also highlighting highlighted as part of the report to remind everyone um that that everything that we do um it presses um on our calendar um another uh form of importance and and if you scroll down to the second page um right there on the bottom it it also going is going to serve like a quick u newsletter. Um we will have the quarterly newsletter but what I want to point out to the families what um how to read the superintendent's report it is a public record. If you have any questions regarding the report please re reach out um to the superintendent but also to the governing board given that they it's a summary of my weekly report. There's one link on the goal number five and it is the updates um
of Baba Unified School District um staff efforts in adhering to the language and culture resolution. uh by clicking on our link you'll be able to see um our different efforts um and what we are continue to work on the horizon this is um if you click on there you go sorry to the link again there is a section with updates so as the staff reports um to me what what's been uh what we mean we have been working on on a monthly basis we'll be adding it to the resolution to let um our community how they also they can also support us and hold us accountable. Um going back to the board report on the bottom side of that report um we can close that section. Um it's announcing uh throughout the whole year you're
going to be able to see when are we going to have the graduation and promotions. Um unless there's any any changes uh it will be updated. Um but also before you make any purchases, please consult with a counselor or the uh the uh uh the the site administrator um to ensure that your um senior or promote will be promoted. Um you can also um continue to check parent view to check on the progress of your child. on the left hand side. This is also part of the governing board that the ones monthly updates uh on the how many after the facts we have every month. Um any audit updates will be also included and one through uh the CFO as well as the superintendent and also a friendly reminder that this year is going to
be a huge year given that it is our accreditation and those are the dates in which u accreditation will be held and um members of the bubble school district board and possibly some parents will be interviewed. So we'll be reaching out for support as well. Any questions on this report before I make some highlights and shout outs? >> I don't have a question. I just wanted to make sure to reiterate what you mentioned. Um the accreditation uh interviews that means any one of the board members and I'm speaking to all the board members. I know some of you are not here, but you really need to make sure you're understanding and and asking questions and know kind of thoroughly or at least to some degree what questions. Not well, do they send them a hit?
No, they don't. They don't send questions a hit. >> No, they don't. >> They just ask you questions and you you have to be really be able to answer those questions without like without a doubt. Um, so I don't Ben, remind me. I know the last time I did it was when Dr. Morris was here, right? >> The accredit accreditation u with was it COA? >> It was 2020 2021. That was the school year and it was under the leadership of Dr. Morris. Correct. >> So I don't remember the questions that were asked, but I do know that there was at least some discussions really thoroughly had with the superintendent at the time. Um so Mr. Diaz, I don't know if that kind of leave gives you an inkling on making sure that all the
board members have I know you do and I'm not saying you don't but that there's there's an emphasis because if you're going to start to prepare then we need to make sure prepared and ready as well. >> Just like the previous one I was the one responsible for the previous accredititation. I will provide you with any information that I feel that will um be aligned with the standards that they giving us giving us and how uh we have the supporting documentations as well. Yes sir. That was the main thing I wanted to mention. Thank you. You can continue. >> Um also as part of the superintendent, I want to highlight um I want to uh thank the governing board and um the members of the team that made the board retreat possible. Thank you for
engaging in in providing clarity on what you're going to be working um for this school year uh as part of your three-year plan. And I also want to give a shout out to the office managers intake for all of the support on the online enrollment. And if you don't mind uh Mr. Bates opening up the district affairs manager report. Um goal 3.9 um it is connecting with our constituents. Um we trying something different which is um having a district affair manager supporting us with the communication. Um I want to point out um part of also that I want to tribute the smooth uh year it is the amount of communication that was done um to be able to provide um that information to the parents and to our staff. Uh you will be able to
see all of the different projects and all of the uh communication that has been done either via robocall flyers posters uh videos and the the way Babu Unified School District story is being told. I want to thank all the collaboration not only with transportation uh to be able to roll out communication uh with the uh online enrollment as well um with the principles in the communication to be able um to ensure that parents knew what they were supposed to do and give clarity. So there was u a lot of communication that took place and those are all of the different projects. So thank you for that support. Big shout out to our district affairs manager for supporting and and making sure also um our year was moved based on all the communication that took place
in different forms uh for the projects uh through the lens of operations. I want to give a shout out to all of our custodians. Um we were short-handed this uh summer but they still made it possible to ensure that uh the uh based on on the time and the manpower that we had to be able to do um the cleaning uh for reopening. They're still not done. We still have some areas that we need uh we need extra attention. But I want to thank um all of their support and all of that work that took place over the summer. Um we do have continuing working on a couple of projects, but what's important from the uh department of operations is that we now uh seeking the funding to uh begin the weatherization for the primary
and the secondary from the family and community engagement uh department. Um there is um um also as part of the vaping prevention um Miss Hart wrote a grant um through the mine and she was awarded $5,000 and that's going to be a part of um her department in in supporting uh the anti- vaping vaping campaign. Um also the amount of support uh it in identifying stu students that are are mckin vento and trying to provide what they need so they have a successful starting of the year. Um about 2,600 lb of food was distributed within the month of July. 180 house uh houses were served and 305 children from curriculum and instruction. Big shout out to our coaches for the new teacher induction and also for supporting the school. They're following a new uh schedule
and they've been out in the field and making sure that they they uh provide additional support to our principles for transportation. Congratulations on your dog award. Um a very smooth year. Once again, I want to support the the Himodog um nomination and I already mentioned um I want to extend my appreciation to all the support in communication through the district affairs manager. We will play the video and I'll be happy to answer any questions that you may have at the end. Are there any questions to the superintendent reports, comments, concerns? I do want to make sure um and acknowledge and thank everyone anyone um Miss Sudan uh for moving swiftly to address the resolution regarding the uh autumn yok uh and and I really really want to say um everything that we've been able to
see thus far uh from from everyone putting together and and of course even wanting to to understand how that resolution um may pertain andor looking at some of the responses to the uh link that Mr. Diaz had mentioned on the updates. Um thank you. Thank you from from the bottom of my heart. Um I think that as a board and as a member of the community or an individual in general, it's just it's just exciting that we have an opportunity um to be able to to impact our students in that way. Um and I understand that there are there are many ways of life um that are that that are that we welcome here. Um but I think for the sake of the representation of the community that we are here to serve um and
have and have been serving for the last for last 100 years I want to say um that emphasis uh and that resolution definitely um I know we had always had a lot of different types of discussions about it but never anything that I had seen that I was actually put down that gave some clear understanding a directive and and kind of a a compass for for our schools to use. And so, thank you for for putting uh putting the best effort forward and for making um it feels good. Uh I I I'm really grateful that we have an opportunity and that the board supported it 100%. Um that we're we're we're going to see some really great um um benefits from from from it. Not that we haven't over the over the years as we've
always included it, but I think the emphasis in that resolution and what we're expecting to see uh as far as expectations is definitely something that I'm I'm grateful we were able to to come together and and agree on. Um but in addition to that, I think that there's a lot of um opportunities that we've been able to be a part of as a board to see, to hear, and to be able to ask the the appropriate or the right questions, I guess I'll say. Um, and part of that, and I want to acknowledge the the super I mean, sorry, the the principal's reports at this point. And I'm sorry, Superintendent Diaz, to hijack your report a little bit, but it's only only because I think the behavior issues is something that I want to take
take responsibility for requesting, but I in this new year, I do want to make sure that I'm not only asking to see like, okay, well, what are the behavior issues we're dealing with, talking with support, but I also want to be able to say here u which I know you guys have all u um dutifully done, is um talk about how are we going to address it? And I think that all leads back into where I also want to lead where I also want to kind of emphasize is that our social emotional learning and or the learning since the systems that we have in place. How are we capitalizing and or capital I hate capitalism is a bad word. How are we maximizing the opportunity we have with individuals to be able to to to
have that? Because we're really blessed to have those types of interventions and or opportunities at our schools. Not everyone has that opportunity to have behavior specialists right in their at their doorstep. Um, and so, uh, I I I did question I not question, I want to be able to to to help emphasize not only those bad behaviors or behaviors that we would call not good, um, but also behaviors that maybe we do want to make sure we're highlighting that are good and that we can that we can give some some some emphasis to as opposed to uh, who's not at school or who's being bad at school or, you know, and and and to we turn a turn a little bit of a leaf in the sense of okay um these are these are what
we're asking of our schools. Um, now let's turn to what we can do as a board or as an individual um present and and and um you know putting the best foot forward in in as far as solutions go or or even opportunities to make changes to the reports um and make it a little bit less uh less of an emphasis on those things. So, um, thank you for for and and and I will try to make sure as far as the principles go or the principal support school as as you may have noted, uh, make sure I'm asking those questions prior to and and giving you guys the opportunity to make sure you're you're able to respond and or and or look forward to the future and say, "Okay, these are the things that
the board or at least um I'm being requested of and maybe I can make adjustments to." So, I want to also open that door to my fellow board members that um I think we've been we've been asked before, you know, what is it that we want to see and are we emphasizing the things that need to be emphasized and are those are those systems and or data and how are we using the data that we're actually requesting to to ask the right questions as a board member. Um, but then I guess in addition to that is um what are we bringing to the table to help and assist with not only the partnerships but the superintendent to be able to be successful at his job and and the principles in that in that same light.
So um that's all I wanted to say in regards to your report. Thank you so much. uh and of course acknowledge uh everyone's hard work uh and and putting together everything that that that they do for you and for us each month. Mr. Diaz, >> I do have one more uh Erin, if you don't mind opening again the district affairs manager uh second page uh goal number five. There is a very neat project um and I want to use this moment um for the big release um second page goal number five. it it is the updated calendar but this very specific features that I want the members of the team the community the governing board and help us showcase it and sorry to put you on the spot uh Miss Sudan if you don't mind
coming to the podium to point out all of the different features um that you have added to this very special calendar um that is also not only going to um make it interactive but also align uh the efforts of promoting another language. Mr. Dan, >> good evening board president Buendia, governing board members and superintendent Diaz. Um I was tasked with updating uh the B USD Anthem calendar. Um, and in conversations with uh Mikey Enis, Marjorie Juan, Elizabeth Jose, and uh Angie Saraphicio, it kind of blossomed into something um more. And in those conversations, we talked about the calendar being able to be utilized by families in developing vocabulary that is pertinent to that time of the the year. And so, um, Miss Saraphicio graciously lent her voice. Um, so when you scan the QR code
that's attached to the month, um, you'll be directed to a Google Slides presentation and it has all the Anthem word vocabulary words and Miss Saraphicio's voice pronouncing each word um, so that families can practice them at home and start to develop some vocabulary. Um, and then also, u, Mr. Enus has lent his voice to end the slideshow with a song um that could be shared at home um that's relevant to that month too. I am seeking more singers but not everybody is willing to be recorded and lend their voice to the project. So for now he's he's the voice of the songs. Um and it's just one maybe hopefully the students and families will learn the songs. um recognize them when they're sung out in community. Um and it's really just to help bridge the
gap with our aunt into the homes in families and hopefully us as staff members being able to use those in classrooms just to review with students um and as they develop their own uh language skills too. Um and then we also uh recreated the aunt them the calendar circle calendar um with the more emphasis on the athe name of the month and glue factory graciously created those stickers um that you have um and donated those to us. Um they just took it from here and made a sticker into it and sent it along with the order. Um the idea with the calendar is to continue to grow um year after year so they'll have access to these resources um as long as they're available. Um and hopefully by next year we can include more more
vocabulary words and all of those types of things. So it just becomes more of a comprehensive resource for our families and staff. President India, one more example of making something that was already extraordinary ordinary and now making it super extraordinary. Thank you for the hard work and thank you for this incredible project. Um help us promote it everyone. Um and let's take advantage of um this foundation work um that can take off. Yes sir. But in these next items, uh I do want to just
make a very quick um acknowledgement for both of them. Um I want to say especially I think that we are so grateful and excited to see Mr. Ethan Anton um apply for the culture position and of course be recommended um for this position. Um I think as well and as well as reclassification for the next item for Miss Dedra Ortega. Um, I think both Ethan and Da carry the wisdom, passion, and dedication. Um, I think we've nurtured right here at BUD. Um, and for me that's a huge win. I think this board has definitely been very um, supportive and we want to be able to see so much more. And I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to be able to acknowledge at this level um that both of them um I believe former
students um of BUSD and having the openness to openness for teaching um a deep love for him of course um commitment sharing their gifts um with future generations um are exactly what we need as leaders um them taking on this role is uh something I I did not want to go without acknowledging. Um and for Miss Dedra to work through the system and commit herself to our children and the overall effort of course um I think it was really important to to emphasize this is the kind of effort and heart we're honored to support. Uh I can't wait to see what comes next and witness the incredible impact of their leadership in in these roles. Um, I think each of them represents a bright future for our community. And above all, I know I'm filled
with so much appreciation for the families and and and everyone involved. Um, I want to also acknowledge um our our director for culture in HID, Miss um Saraphicio, who I know has been working diligently um to recruit and all of you who have really done that effort. So that's just what I wanted to state in regards to these next items. But um with that, I have a motion to approve the um hire for Mr. Ethan. >> I don't know how to abstain. I just not vote. >> You just no vote. Yeah. >> I need a second. She can't vote. >> Okay. Second. >> Second by Miss Kathleen Vance. >> All those in favor? Um stay not voting. >> Thank you.
