with our community is also asking their support and to the South District they're gonna they have to navigate the the funding so we can take three students to help us um show what it means to Advocate and also Empower them and what it means to advocate for our district and also the experience of going to Washington DC so the um the donation that will be a boarding later on it's also important to take three high school students in our one chaperone and as a result we would like to award South district with the filming award for the commitment and support in meeting our goals in between our mission industry thank you [Applause] that they're not here I think especially especially as a district member and a member of the nation I know that one of
the things that we definitely want to be able to do is have that collaboration apprenticeships and everything that it comes to not only highlighting those types of imported issues but supporting education and the others that have been put forth by the school and everyone's involved so um as a district member thank you to the school district for everything that it's it's pushing forward and um and thank you so much Mr Diaz for taking a moment to recognize the efforts so appreciate you but anything that's on the board if not that's all for the end of course yes thank you sir number two is research research request presentation from this spot I'm sorry if I'm not saying but alternative communities um we have a special guest and it it is um looking to see your approval
in a research project it's aligned within the educational spectrum and at this point I would like to welcome our special guest to be able to share an abstract and a summary of a project and then we'll look for your recommendations so this board sir can you hear us Mr um please help us with pronunciation of your name sir yes so take it away sir okay um I'll go and share my screen [Music] um can you see my screen correct yeah we do awesome great thank you um well you have crystals on hello everybody um thank you so much for having me um again my name is Vishal Alicia I'm an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and today I'll be discussing a research study on something called perceptions of intelligence
but before I give it to you what the study entails and how it relates to go to schools and education in general um first we really understand what exactly are perceptions of intelligence and why they're important so why to study even necessary in the first place and that begins with the role of socioeconomic status or SAS in education we normally unfortunately that SCS significantly likes to both children and or students and teachers in education where for instance children from oscs backgrounds tend to develop their academic skills more slowly and teachers at Lowe's SCS schools are generating less offensive in their instruction no obviously these socioeconomic influences on students and cks are obviously it has been one of the well-known for decades but the hidden danger here is the way teachers affect students as a function
of LCS specifically ssex which stands for school so School social economic status excuse me sscs predicts how teachers treat their students um differentiate their students as a function of sscs and that can affect student performance like I don't know ssef School teachers tend to have Lowered Expectations for their students and even to the point that they give them as less teachable while that high socs schools teachers tend to give their students more autonomy and give them more opportunities equal opportunities for success as you might imagine this could be detrimental to not only students performance but also their overall well-being and you've been correct in that assumption also an osscs scores when students perceive this differential treatment by the teachers towards them students tend to have great feelings and less motivation and over time of course
that's going to have worse that's going to worse in their performance then the officers through issca schools where the treatment treatment is more equal it's not differentially the students aren't differentially treated so that's going to lead to more motivation and ultimately a better school performance so the prior to seeing how this academic achievement Gap is being associated with ssds oh and in a different manner this time through beliefs and actions by the teachers towards the students so that the question becomes what are the beliefs that are going to SAS that are behind these actions behind this differential treatment by the teachers towards the students and the Interline the perceptions of intelligence or POI for short now this is comprises of three main beliefs about intelligence so the first is self-perceptions of intelligence and the second
is characteristics of intelligence and I'm getting into these police abound to open greater but the third belief is something you might be familiar with it's something called fixed versus growth mindsets of intelligence and so I'll just go over those definitions briefly on a fixed mindset of intelligence positive staff intelligence can change over time so no matter how much we try and practice um someone with the fixed mindset would say that they can't get any smarter and some of the program set of intelligence would say the opposite that intelligence is valuable and that they can get smarter through Practice Center effort and so this has been these mindsets have been strongly linked to student performance for many years now so there may be no coincidence that teachers and students mindsets of intelligence are strongly correlated with
one another and with an intensity of that fixed mindsets of intelligence are negatively associated with SAS it seems that or I should say that what do you mean particularly associated with ses that would be that um students with a growth mindset are more likely to come from a high SCS background than vice versa but when we consider these two pieces of evidence it seems that a low ssds biases teachers into internalizing some of these negative social cultural messages from society and when they internalize those messages they might be more likely to manifest into a fixed mindset from the teachers that then adds down to the students possibly through this differential treatments that we saw earlier and when this happens um it can also create um it has you can also have impact on student performance
in addition to there being a direct link between students mindsets and on students academic performance so for instance students that you that excuse me students at low sscs teachers Sports schools when they view their students as less suitable that strongly resembles a fixed mindset of intelligence because it positive you that from the perspective of the teachers no matter how much they teach or instruct those students you know they can't get any better academically and then likewise lowest so okay sorry um but yeah likewise students at the low SS low sscs schools would they perceive that differential treatment and believe Less in the value of effort overability and they begin to lack motivation that also resembles the fixed mindset of intelligence because a fixed mindset the instance of it is that effort is um it's devalued
compared to ability because if someone with a fixed mindset would say that my ability is what it is and so the longitudinal effect here comes from a study where students who had professors with a growth mindset ended up having um worse or sorry um yeah sorry students with professors who had a growth mindset went on to have better educational outcomes than students with professors with a fixed mindset of intelligence so the instances of how ssds relates to their security account maybe through the teachers through the relationship where sscs sorry where I says yes predicts the teachers perceptions of intelligence and that predicts students perceptions of intelligence and ultimately that's going to hurt their academic performance no actually um I think I'm running like a little bit but one time so would you like me to
and just get the highlights on the side because it is a long slide um over which guys you need to receive as normal the request is to hit the highlights of the presentation you want me to yes if you don't mind covering the highlights or the presentation please yeah so um you know now that we understand the broader picture of what perceptions of intelligence are and how they relate to socioeconomic status um we can go into the other aspects of intelligence or perceptions of intelligence and all that these concepts are relatively new to research since the reason that they also relate to mindsets or to rather um sooner performance just like mindsets of intelligence and self-receptions of intelligence for instance that's the view of what someone believes about their own intellectual abilities or in the
case of teachers what do they think about their students intellectual abilities and so there are three or there's three main pieces of pieces of evidence regarding the fact that um we believe that mindsets influence self-perceptions and intelligence but I'll go over that and the main takeaway is that a fixed mindset of intelligence May um promote worse self-perceptions of intelligence and by worse I mean you think less of them so if you think that you're unintelligent and so of course the problem here is now how do we combat these unfortunately aesthetic student well-being and student self-esteem and given that um this proximity of course between the teacher and the student we would hope that we can use the teacher student relationship to combat these harmful beliefs but the problem is that at low srcs schools they
tend to be worse to particular student relationships such that the teacher is not as likely to get to know the students in which might be because that they might be less motivated to do so and that can later them into having worse self-perceptions themselves towards the students because they might not be able to um see if they make a picture of the students talents because they do social cultural factors that is the teacher might be more inclined to internalize the students academic performance that has been affected by SES and therefore have more self-perceptions than selfless themselves and then getting into characteristics of intelligence that pertains to the extent to which intelligence can be measured by school performance so for instance there's getting good grades necessarily signal high intelligence and again there are some takeaways here
but the single bit the takeaway is that three characteristics and thousands for COI for sure might moderate Theory leadership between mindsets and self-perceptions of intelligence such that I could promote it's my types of intelligence and make that mindset self-perceptions relationship even stronger because it can make students more vulnerable to self-esteem losses and um I would have gone over this but self-esteem is the effectively the middle link between mindsets and social perceptions and so the big takeaway here is that at no sscs schools students need teachers like that might be more vulnerable to having worse self perceptions of intelligence and worse characteristics of intelligence which can endanger students motivation self-esteem and well-being ultimately and so look around evidence points to sses predicting teachers perceptions and intelligence which predicts students perceptions of intelligence and that affects their
systems performance and so again there are three main questions here the first one is do teachers perceptions of intelligence predict the students POI and then again relatedly what's the role of socioeconomic status of socs in this relationship because we expect a lower sses to predict worse teachers of UI which would predict of course students ay and then again the research question we just covered does coy indeed moderate the mindset self-perceptions relationship and so obviously um our research team has our own goals in terms of what we want to accomplish with this study but we want to make this a mutually thankful beneficial Partnership if you were to participate in this study um we plan to use these study results to inform your and other schools professional development and student intervention programs specifically for promoting more
advantages POI in its Futures and in students and of course this would be beneficial in any area but especially maybe towards low-life FCS areas given the predictive role of accessories in POI and so namely again I'll hit the highlights here namely proving teachers at eoi given the procedure student relationship could be helpful to motivate them to get to know their students and help reduce the risk of students adopting their own bad self perceptions as well as really focusing on building trust in communication between the teachers and the students on an intellectual level and by doing that we hope to allow them to connect better emotionally and give them the necessary social muscles socio-emotional support and responsive climate needed to succeed and ultimately that is both the value Visions to enable Student Success and so to
hit the um exactly how we're going to execute this Vision um our common ambition here the first step would be recruiting eligible participants and eligible participants include students and teachers of ages 10 and up for grades 6 through 12 and I also prepare the Improvement fire that can be distributed and um to selects teachers knows what's involved and studied and then the students and teachers would are interested would formally enrolled in the study by bringing the online consent and descent forms so it just contains all the relevant details of the study and we can decide whether or not they're willing to participate and what you would do once they participate is complete a survey so the survey would be 10 to 15 minutes long um it is online so it can be good outside or
during the school hours whatever convenient and then it's open between September and October but although we can move this research timeline if need be like if it's a busy time during the school year but the survey is able to assess students and teachers perceptions intelligence their POI it's a slightly different version for who students is like from these survey results spoken to create POI scores now we're going to compare experience into our research questions but yeah regardless of what our research timeline is we're hoping to move forward with the study this semester and we'd be really excited is you enjoyed our study and really helped contribute to our efforts of attacking the student achievement development so thank you so much for your attention and please let me know if you have any questions and yeah
I'd be happy to take any questions you have come on one second sir this is my understanding that this is a research yes correct is he aware of protocol s based on my reading correspondence with up yesterday we have informed that any research project that he comes before Public School District need to be our group by the nation as well he we haven't we have put him in contact with the nation with the names and he is also he has communicated that he will be happy to also seek a consent from the nation to be able to contact with this study okay great um were you going to respond oh yes sir was your question I just want to say that um a they didn't like it it didn't work you know go through with
it in fact I think they went to them to the nation for approval and they also United okay yeah yeah I know I completely understand um you know if they had if I can clarify you know anything else that can um you know I'll finance that decision um I understand but yeah thank you so much for letting me present and share this opportunity with you um thank you for the presentation um it's it's really hard to um when stuff like this comes to the nation or to the schools that people are reluctant because um I know previously um I had heard of you know the information being used in a negative manner I guess uh against the nation on these kinds of surveys and stuff so for me it's like it's it's uh it's kind
of hard for me to to support it but I do understand and I do want to say that I am curious to find out especially from our students um what they perceived themselves uh as far as intelligence and the connection between them and the teachers and how the teachers feel about that same that exactly what you put up on this on the screen there because um it does have an effect on our students and our students they need to be encouraged all the time no matter where they come from no matter what you know they go through and stuff that encouragement is so important and and the fact that that um that they're not giving up on and that they continue to move forward in that positive manner so for me it's like I want
to see what what can be done and how it can help us our school um but I also don't understand and don't know how the information is going to um or where it's gonna go and how it's gonna you know affect us and so it's you know of [Music] sorry um I guess I know there's there's probably other schools involved and you know it sounds like that you know they've done already a lot of research to come up with the information that you have but like for us specifically our schools specifically our students specifically our teachers thoughts and information I would like um you know so like I said it's really hard for me to to because I want to know that I want to know how and I do understand I do support that
we need to set the bar high for our students and then no more of the slow bar stuff because it's not it's not helping um our students need to know that they can accomplish way more than they they think they can so for me it's bittersweet so that's all I have to say that you know if you were to participate anyone um who is participating in these schools with school districts would be completely Anonymous but um if I were to um you know if you were to just use the survey without like you know formerly enrolled into the study um you know I'd certainly be happy to do that except um there's certainly it's completely new um if yeah I'm adventure to send the PowerPoint but it's compiled to integrated scales that RDX is so
in other words it has been validated um basically we don't know 100 yet if the results coming from the survey are reliable so um you know maybe I could even complete this study first and then based on the validation of the survey um I'd be happy to you know come back again and then uh you know get the service for you guys do teams well yeah yeah something so the only comment I have and I know that and I don't mean to speak against I want to say thank you for the presentation I think what we recognize what I want to say personally is that while the nation's intention is to protect our interest as a child what I do understand as well is that we do need to have some very real data or
understanding of exactly what it is we're dealing with when we talk about things like what Miss Max is talking about because regardless of whether the nation decides who can research or what I think this information we see a lot of when we're out in other other National types of conferences but I always wonderful what does that look like or something to the degree of our type of circumstances because we do know that there's there's absolutely impacts from like you just said the perception or the perception of intelligence based on my social economic standing because I the where I live I'm not as smart and so how does that affect our kids not because they're gone all of them but because they're in our schools and we should probably be really focused on how is that
going to impact them that's what I understand and I know that there's a lot of them now who are just adamantly against anything but if we're gonna do something about it then we have to be open to having these types of conversations and no not pointing anyone out because obviously no one wants to talk about their economic uh status but I think the capability of having it we volunteer only anonymously and um I wouldn't mind participating because I mean if if anything it helps us to really kind of glitch forward a little more and it helps us to to really kind of go after certain dollars or fun deals or all of those things on some of the disparities that we know we have but we don't have anything to show for it other than
our test scores so we'll have to kind of look at it in multiple different views and I know our values are important as a nation but I think us as a school boarding to recognize that we are kind of in the dark sometimes because we don't really know and understand that and it hasn't really been given that opportunity so thank you for I think upper offering that type of opportunity I hope that maybe if I didn't hear a no or anything but Mr Diaz whether or not you want for more support maybe his offer of coming back with some more information maybe we do decide as a body to say hey Nation this might be something we might be interested in and really kind of help them move along because I know that there's been
others that have come before and I think they did go to the IRB diet because they the institutional review board is hard they will come down on you on every single little detail of what you're doing and I know that that's the intention is to protect our interests however this might be something that would be really beneficial to the school district and all school districts not just us all the schools on the nation should have some form of understanding of you know what we're talking about all the time like holistic approaches to what we're doing because we know people are dealing with things they just don't like to talk about it but the kids show it when they don't want to participate in education because they're worried about all those other things that are impacting
them at home so let's just and of course um you know take your time and make no decision I understand this is a sensitive matter and um note that um in this study the socioeconomic status it's um I can provide a link but there's a public online database it's called the Stanford educational data archive and in this study the SCS SDS Mentor is a district level measure that I believe it's the database contains data that's about two years old but um that's what I was planning to so now I've read it and asking each individual participants um Associated on data because that isn't feasible with every school that I'm reaching out to I'm using rather District level data but um we can probably use individual data if that's something you're interested in yeah once again
I want to thank you for your presentation one of the questions that I have since the collection of the data is going to be anonymous the interest or the personal interest here would you be able to disaggregate the data just for our district so we can determine what that looks like the capability of the data collection yes yeah that absolutely should be possible um so what I'm planning to do is send a survey rights to each individual students um email address students teachers in my addresses um and so I'd be able to track the students data from those um based on the based on the counseling to those surveys and then you know I would code each data separately from each state separately and then I'll delete all the email addresses yes how long would
it take to get the results um what is that timeline of your research to send me the results in my possible presentation in the government forward to move forward yeah um so if we were to complete data collection by the end of October will project to finish the data analysis until this particularly created each district separately and doing the identity data analysis for your District now let's just make that happening probably by the end of the calendar year without having a formal report because I do intend to move forward with the publication with the study and assuming about other schools I also get completed I tend to move with publication but by probably March 2024 um but I can get an earlier report to your districts specifically with data to our district probably by then
under the calendar year okay listen I have a quick question how many do you know if you know how many other schools have you surveyed if you have that are operating within tribal lands that is kind of specific are specifically operates only on travel lines yes yes totally um but yours is the only one in tribal lands because um yeah the way I used to like different school districts is it's a random process I go state by state and randomly select the school so um you know there's no um restrictions or targeting any tribal schools um but yeah I'm looking forward regardless okay [Music] I have another question but I choose help but I find College and we saw I want once again I want to uh for public records the the approval or non-approval
is completely dependent from the nation um there's 12 rules did it and as I mentioned on the correspondence the government board today may talk or decide what the fate of or the support of This research but the most importantly you need to get the support and go through the process with the nation without own automation okay and we can guide you in the process as well thank you voice suggestions and all the best of luck with the IRB uh I think that's going to be a task but I think if it were if if the will is there as much as I see it in me now then I'm sure you won't have too much issues so long as you're responding to whatever there is the request is but um anything else you should use
it [Music] okay okay thank you sir all right thank you so much all right with that maybe move on to number three is our barbecue in a unified school district opening board financial report thank you because you mean president it's green yeah board members and superintendent ideas I'm going to be presenting the the Student Activities and our facility balances for July 2023 the Student Activities account had disbursements totaling 9591.63 and the um Elementary stuco had disbursements totaling 1072.90 for credit card purchases for pre-k lunch at the zoo Kinder promotion treats pizza and drinks for second grade celebration and promotion supplies the class of 2023 had disbursements totaling 8 518.73 for payments made for the senior trip including Hotel fuel Six Flag entry tickets and payment for the transportation driver the ending balance for the Student
Activity account on 73123 was 93 927 and 85 cents the student auxiliary fund had no activity in July and the ending balance on 731.23 was 3949.76 do I have any questions no question I do have one more comment um in August you guys will see the um transfer for those inactive clubs into student council so I just wanted to give you a heads up now I'm going to go over the um this school 23 budget expenditures as of 731.23 a tax you will find the fiscal year 23 expenditures through 73123 we currently we are currently in the encumbrance period in fiscal year 23 that allows us to continue making payments for goods and services received on or before 6 30. and it is um it is the time for us to ensure grants are maximized
with the minimal budget carry forward the encumbrance period will conclude at the end of this month I have highlighted areas um where grants and I will have to move expenditures around to ensure that we do not have any over budget expenditures accounts payable and purchasing are working hard to close all purchases purchase orders and once they have confirmed all goods and services have been received or paid for as the purchase orders are closed we will release any you unused or encumbered expenses overall busd currently has a 30.03 or 12 million 343 078 and 16 cents budget balance excluding in conferences the USD has received revenues totaling 27 million 419 249 and 73 cents as of 731.23 in fiscal year 23 from all funds excluding funds for Student Activities and Insurance Fund do I have any
questions vanilla go ahead sure I have questions right now Ruben already answered some of them but the one that I was worried about was the SR funds they know we have a couple this year before with one more year for the sr300 oh fiscally 24th right yes when we complete this year is the ending of this we've got funding yes and the other one is the health insurance which went up it did go up a little bit I think was that last word I think glasses would be presented on the um the insurance and it went up just a tiny bit when we tried to move around different plans and to give the employees more options to have the same kind of benefits where the price wouldn't go up as much and USD incurred some
of that cost for them so that they wouldn't enter all of that increase in the encounter a day they'll sell some outstanding for insurance yes there are still purchase orders that are open and that we're working to get invoices to um finish paying up um but that ends at the end of this month thank you so was the invoices that are going to be done by the end of this month yes we're working very hard to get everything in and so that we can pay it so we're working with each department to give us all the invoices for their open purchase orders so that we can close up the year okay and so anything after that [Music] we are able to pay it out of this year if um we can explain but typically it
should not be paid out of the next fiscal year we should be done in complete so why are we outside of order not following through policy or procedure when it comes to making sure that we're done without any questions thank you we have had several deadlines for each department to submit and close out POS um if there has been ordering we we asked that ordering stock I think our first deadline was um April 10th and then we extended it out a little bit because we had some grants that we need to use up um so we extended the deadline another month um but there's always last minute things that come up and straggling POS purchase orders purchases we ask that purchasing stock but in a perfect world we'd love for it to stop but it
just it doesn't and we did have some purchases as late as um 6 30 6 28 yeah and so that does make it more difficult for our department to try and close up their purchases but I know Sherry's been working very hard and we have had outside work trying to gather all this um invoices or giving us the okay to close the PO that they're done using it but our department only knows what we received so if we don't know there's been another order out there there's no way for us to complete or you know to know that there's a straggler out there so we we depend on the Departments to let us know what purchases they've made and that they've confirmed that everything is complete and paid for but but you said deadlines in
closing yes but anyway the other question might happen so um but yeah basically I think basically and that way that they are do they have special things if you close at deadlines and they want the purpose something after that deadline they you know they ask you or you know that it's yeah [Music] oh I know what my question is Grants are they on a different year foreign [Music] so that we don't cross fiscal years and work with three different years uh we purposely do that so we close everything out on 6 30. and as far as your deadlines you are correct we have deadlines set up but of this year I know uh with summer school played a part into it so some of them didn't have any orders or supplies needed so we offered
and extended that using grant money to go ahead and do that as well so sometimes we'll extend it but I think this year we extended a 2 visit that procedure and that policy can pull back and hopefully everybody can plan appropriately especially because of the intentions to continue with that type of group almost the whole middle school or short-term contract basically of school year yes right aside from the regular school year then I think that that needs to be very yes I think too what maybe was maybe have caused a bit of confusion for some of the Departments as having an open field I think they thought because they have an open PL in the system that they can keep on ordering from them when we had set our deadlines so I think that um
that didn't help a little bit and then um just last minute orders are trying to get you know we we try to prepare them and say these are going to be the deadlines we give them to them ahead of time so that they are able and we remind them you know of their summer school there is um end of year getting ready for the next year so put your supply orders in you know to prepare yourself for the beginning of the next year and unfortunately that doesn't always happen expenses where you're having to adjust that those are specific you know what whatever it is that's happened someone who was working in a school year or whatever knew those deadlines granted if they were going to do some school there is a there's a whole different
type of feel that does need to probably be brought back and adjusted and understood because we didn't know that and now we do and so exactly we do talk about this in our cabinet meetings also we're always reminding um but I think this year having the budgets the department budgets will help them to um plan a little better and and have things ready um so I think that will help and well that's one way we're trying to help fix this I know there was some discussion on how these budgets are actually developed and I really truly hope and this is not me trying to recognition in a way but it's really hope that there is some inclusion for everyone involved in those budgets are set up so that they understand that these are the reasons
that this is how why we do what we do this is your budget this is what expectation is rather than oh you have a budget here it is I'm just putting it feel like I know that there was some discussion before at one of the research about well who sets the budget up budgets actually why are you over budget and fighting or you could you know adjust um but you know I think for as far as the sake of the board that's how I would say we will share is saved here there's whatever was done was done let's move forward and make sure everything is clear yes we're not limited to these types of questions yes I'm sorry president Rodeo members of the board um I will make a note and I'll make sure that
we may get very clear of what a deadline stand for so that we can then continue to plan ahead of time and bring everyone's Clarity of what needs to be done prior so we don't have to be dealing with this level and amount of cucumber um [Music] it's fast um I was just gonna say I guess you know as a CFO you really need to put your foot down and make sure that those deadlines are being met um because I know the year before there were pills that were open and and um everybody was kind of hassle to try to get receipts and all of that stuff and I thought maybe this year it will be better because of last year but it sounds like it's still the same so it doesn't seem like there's
some there's I think more emphasis on your part as far as the CFO you need to really put your foot down and make sure that those deadlines are being met whoever whoever it is from whatever this the schools you're working with or the Departments you're working with that they understand that you have it's going to fall back on you yeah so yes you know you you have to make those yes make it known that those things are necessary because at the end of the year we're going through this again yeah yes I I agree I agree and I think that too um part of us again we're all here to help the kids and we're all here for the students so it when we find that they need something for the students we will do
what we have to do to make sure and if that means us having to scramble at the end of the year because things are bought towards the end of year after the deadline then we try to do that just so we make sure that the kids have what they own so um it's it's a tough spot to be in but you're you are right you're correct it was just I think um not only put down but uh and I don't mean any other books but present and Advising and checking in on where are you on your displeasure or whatever you know whatever it means to actually be to be I don't know if it's called more Hands-On or more at least and then you have your academic needles I'm sure there's a schedule but to
what degree and how much are you actually reporting those type of students to say okay here we are this is what it used to be or where we're at um and and I guess I would say being pointed about what you're waiting for and I'm not going to wait this long and then I'm going to start to report it wherever I need to or if anything to the board I don't know you know I I just want to be able to support the fact that Miss Vance is right yeah yes I'll buy stuff I feel like absolutely you know we're not here to also stand in the way of what's needed but I really truly feel like if we are working together as a team collaborating and understanding our sites our departments our responsibilities aside
from the emergency type of situation generally School the intern pretty much the same amount as they always are so let's let's understand okay I know I'm gonna plan for this and I need to make sure I have that yes but maybe it's more Technical Training that everybody needs I don't know I mean no I just wanted to ask that um but also that you know that scenario that we as a board have to always feel because it is how the school is is coaching is those projects yes and so it's very important that you know um also um do you do a calendar or a schedule for the year on what you know what you know um well especially you know there are deadlines yes and we do send out emails and reminder emails um
to the staff to let them know the deadline is coming up or this is the deadline we have for Supply items um and then we've also um in the past we've done um you know here's the deadline for Community Day orders here is the deadline or graduations coming up please put in your orders by this date so we try to be proactive with the sites um so that they know you know or rewind it because I know they have a lot going on too on what's coming up and um when we need orders by to be able to process them and get them their items okay thank you all right thank you okay uh number four is our barbecue Unified School District school principal reports president I never saw the board I never saw the
community staff at this point I would like um assembly request to be going forward and two special announcements um please highlight your board as well as some other questions on attendance that I emailed earlier yeah amazing voice all right um I hope you've had an opportunity to read it I do want to highlight Aaron if you could scroll up or down third go down to the attendance portion um this is only the first week of school keep going but we did that we went too far right there uh Pre-K Tinder [Applause] they did get over or 90 or above um second and third were really close so that brought us to a school-wide percentage again it's just the last week of July but 89. [Applause] I do want to think we had quite a few
volunteers come in last week to support what the supplies that we received for the students so they've stuffed over 300 backpacks so we're going to be disbursing those either Thursday or from the community Friday our Lord Miss Valdez always does an amazing job we got some student work there already to putting up some art on this side you can see some self-portraits of our tinders um and then some uh back to school or first day of school pictures that are there um currently we have 320 students enrolled uh 14 students have dropped meaning they are attending a different school either outside of cells or one of the bie schools our daily attendance for the first 11 days of school has come in at about 86 percent and um we still have some that were yesterday
was the 10-day drop so they were working on dropping kids today that have not shown up but before they're doing that they're making phone calls to see um what's been happening why they're not attending um what we can do to support them and then for some reason they came back and you know all the germs so Thursday and Friday we got lots of doctors notes of absences because of illnesses um so we're hoping to see those numbers increase as time goes on because they were here so let's just say for example they came for like the first two three days of school then they got sick went to the doctor and then they had notes to not return until certain dates so we did get quite a few what were any of them for 10
days you know if it's 10 consecutive days then we called by day six or my office staff was looking at consecutive at 60s and they were starting to make phone calls home so by day seven we actually had 10 kids that parents said oh no we're not gonna bring them we're going somewhere else or we're enrolling them in another school 14 14. uh 320. so you said you did the drugs already they were putting them in today because yesterday was day 10. so they were calling again today just to verify you know [Music] 14. 14 students across all groups yeah that's a mixture of grades um some Pre-K started in our three-year-old class we emphasize that they need to be potty trained so three we did have to drop because they're not fully potty trained
we don't have um staff members who provide those Services because we are a public entity so we don't change diapers unless they have something written with a disability then we do change diapers but not for not being fully potty trained but still open so if they do learn within the next few months they definitely can't read and re-enroll there was three three-year-olds that were part of the 14. having said that President will increase from 89 through it was having said that um why they drop and we adjust the attendance well they're likely that will move over to 90 percent any questions we're ready for the video [Music] thank you [Music] hey I'm on vacation every single day cause I love my occupation hey I'm on vacation if you don't like it like this you should
go and change it I'm on vacation every single day cause I love my occupy [Music] I'm on vacation every single day every single day every single day [Music] every single day [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] waiting for a good day [Music] you okay [Music] everybody everybody [Music] foreign [Applause] ER hunt or staff scavenger hunt and bonus points were to get our superintendents in the video and she came over and they all bombed our chicken they were there was a line of teachers waiting and he learned what five different dances in a matter of like five minutes [Applause] okay because yes so that's how you doing your backup well he does love to dance so good evening board members president buendia and superintendent Diaz so I presented my I turned in my principal report I
did not include data because we don't have any yet so in the next meeting we'll include our data so our current enrollment is 256 students we started off with 267 so we had 11 students who withdrew many of them moved out of town on Monday uh we was our 10th day so we're all our students who have not shown up were dropped because they were gone um 10 consecutive days but our teachers and our parent liaison did call all the parents try and find them to see what was going on see if they were coming and so we did Reach Out and so with our current enrollment from the first day of school till today our average daily attendance is 236 which is 92 percent attendance so good job to my staff who reach out
to the parents often to keep in touch and let them know that we want them here on campus and we do have a challenge going on right now where if they are here every day until the end of August they get a backpack full of goodies to the point of where I think I'm not gonna have enough backpacks sure but we will make it work um we do have a change on one of our upcoming events the house sorting event was on Thursday and we changed it to tomorrow um at one o'clock and in our gym and we also invited our families of the students who will be placed into a house so they can see what our students will um start their new journey in with a new house and we also had our
first house meeting we will be having a house meeting every Friday every first Friday of the month so that they can collaborate with each other and create events by house for each month and so that's it oh my board report um I gave you all a pamphlet on the first day of our training at the Desert Diamond Casino but I also put it up here in a bigger version and all the teachers I've given have been given a pamphlet so that they can reference it when we are doing walk-throughs and they know what is expected everybody's on the same page they know what we're looking for um and a lot of those things are on there are things that were purchased through the CSI Grant so we're lucky we have them and we're hoping that
this year will be a successful year um because we are bringing [Applause] [Music] field [Music] s so these are all Kagan strategies that they are learning and then they are to take it back into their classroom so if you come into our classrooms you will see some of these strategies that they are doing in the video [Music] foreign [Music] all of them [Music] hello I'm sorry [Music] number one respond to an adult when spoken to [Music] SD yes [Music] [Applause] question be ready to see some ducks out there our students get ducked and they are currently looking for a they find five Ducks there's these little tiny ducks that we hide everywhere and they find five of them they get prizes so maybe that's why we have good attendance and then um does admin give
out bigger ducks that they have to earn cool I really I really um I really like that video that we put together that shows the students how to act or react or to just come out of their shell to me that was so cool when I first saw it and I was like oh that is so cool like because a lot of kids who tried to say good morning they don't say nothing to you they just lie bye okay and so I thought hey not as a not as something that they're gonna learn that so I really I really like that was the best part of my life it's not like that they know they didn't know they can understand it it's it's just being respectful so yeah the essential 44 we're we're hoping that
it will help build their confidence and that whenever they go out and to step off of her campus go into town go somewhere else that they know how to behave and they know how to respect things around them because it may be common sense things that we don't realize that we need to teach and so the center 44 is taught 11 at a time each week and so the videos are all updated um it does take a lot of time to practice but the kids love it so we have a lot of bloopers and we're hoping to at the end when we're done to compile them all together and show the kids and because they get excited about it and to be actors oh that's cool that is so cool um there was one student
that came the morning the first day of school and I can't remember which teacher it was but she came and she brought him over and she said he has a riddle for me every morning and I was telling her he said he should uh get an intercom in the mornings and do that and that would be something you know build his confidence in that place and I'm not sure who this guy that was but every morning here they tell us a joke or he has a riddle for you and and I think um France and his Amy Branson yeah I would love to be there on a morning where he said something on the intercontinence also congratulations to the sixth grade class for their 90s I'm pretty sure they are listening so good job sixth
graders and um every morning we do me in a Google meet and we do an announcement and it's run by the students all right but I did want to mention about your um sorry um I wanted to mention I really appreciate your brochure for your your what is it called everything all our goals yeah but you put it in your in a brochure and you know that's something that I have often I've asked for for I don't know how many years is to get a brochure for the school district but I'm glad that you did maybe I'm hoping that maybe the other schools will follow and and create something like that for their school to hand out when students combo parents come I think that's a way to introduce for school what you're doing what
your goals are and look that way when they can't cut you out um go to it every time they have questions about you know what's going on because it's always so much um I'm so sorry [Applause] did I have it last year no this is our first year having music that's um Emma decided I think she wanted she didn't want to be instruments and she's all excited about it so I'm looking forward to it during her her own presentation whenever he is doing a wonderful job and thank you to miss Leiva for um letting us borrow her instruments because we didn't have anything so we can we emphasize and labor came to our rescue and so we're in the process of trying to find money for him to get more instruments thank you I think
and president please let's give it up for Miss Levi and she's support she Survivor first month of July and smiling good evening president buendia governing board members Mr Diaz and Community uh I would like to highlight our principal's report um now that our students are back we want to thank everyone that came and supported us on the first day it allowed the rest of us to go out and help students smoothly find their classes and especially for our new seventh graders we were able to leave everyone that helped us in the front office and then the rest of us were able to go out and help with those students so I want to thank everyone that helped us with that our athletics department is off to a great start Miss cross comp has a whole
year under her belt now and so she's and knows what to anticipate at least things that happened last year she's able to anticipate and has already started having meetings some of the coaches were there we're going to be planning another meeting for the next set of sports so we're off to a great start and then the last thing I want to make sure I highlight is that one of the things that we talked about before I started was our seniors and so miss Haley has already scheduled several meetings she was here on one evening and scheduled most of the parents that were here that evening nine of them showed up and then there's been a couple no-shows and then one parent rescheduled but every day after school this week that I like wandered by her
office she has another parent and a senior in there so she's working really hard to make sure she has all those meetings with our students you'll notice um back on that the first page there's the start of the chart of what students are required to have in order to graduate and then if you scroll down so it's a total of 22 but I broke down how they what they need um we have been keeping track of those parents that are on parent view our front desk Miss Destiny Robles is really really good about going through step-by-step parents on the phone she's she does she can't see their screen but she can walk them through the program and so you'll see on there for the high school between July 25th and August 2nd we had 129
parents that logged into parent view and 29 from the middle school so definitely want parents to be on you know to be aware of where their students are with grades so we are going to continue to get more of our parents involved and then CTE MJ Ted this is one of our exciting things this year we have in culinary arts we have 113 students enrolled in our AG science we have 76 automotive technology is 73 audio visual that's Miss Lopez she's the one that did our video you'll see that in a minute we have 126 and we have yet to start our computer technology class but um those numbers were as of last week um I believe there's been a couple of changes so those numbers in ag Science and Technology auto automotive might have
changed by two or three but it's not a lot and then our dual enrollment classes we had 15 students enrolled in math Ela So reading so writing hasn't started yet because their teacher comes and teaches it and they start at the end of August um and then we are we since we have our College and Career advisor now they've been working really closely so I'm excited to get that started um a couple of violations the first week we had five and then right below that you'll see our attendance our 10-day drop as I think Miss Mrs mcgay Lewis mentioned was yesterday and so our um attendance Clerk and our office my office manager were working diligently today to update the numbers so I have a couple of updates our current enrollment originally we thought it
was 402 I believe um we are at 391 after our 10-day drop some of those students um we are contacting the rest of them some of them moved out of the district some of them were students that rolled over with Synergy and we were trying to figure out how to take them off of our Synergy because they didn't belong to us and I believe it was something that went back and forth with um miss Layla and our technology department has been helping us with that as well but we are hoping by tomorrow I can send you the updated numbers so this here is not correct this is based on our original enrollment of 400 and some students and that's where they changed today any questions on the report will have respects so the percentages you're
talking about that's in a challenge yes so on this page this right here is based on our enrollment up through September July 31st as of yesterday our 10th day we we were able to drop those students that don't belong to us or have not shown up thank you it was 400 402 how many total seniors 60. 69 60 students 60 seniors we dropped four seniors all in all we dropped for the and those are our friends with two of them um transferred to Tucson uh one went to I don't know how to say the name thank you and then um the rest of the students Layla and Destiny are calling to find out where they are okay congratulations [Music] um um getting to the first four weeks um and so I'm really hoping that these
numbers go up the attendance well that's good yeah you know it's what a week two weeks that's four days worth of day down it's only so it's July 25th through July 31st so don't panic go ahead it's really quick I've been working with tech and actually today we saw the attendance problem were the Yemen State and there was a field of data that wasn't processing for the high school middle school alternative Amy Winehouse but where we work with Synergy and that branding and the other tests actually create that field populate it so as those 10-day drops come go away and the attendance gets reported you know more efficiently those everybody's numbers should go up I think the interview is okay I don't recall them missing anything students there was a line that said unassigned and
we don't know where it was yeah I don't know what happened to last year's role rollovers on catching up we're clearing day though we're clearing Integrity nose Tech Guys I predict by you know at the end of this week and what we've done so far we should be through the live stuff and the integrity I think we're up to 60 Integrity errors but now that the 10-day drops are leaving and it's somewhere at the high score j10n enrollment and those should be cleared up so we should be down to finish this fine-tuning um for the month of Vlog is we can go back and revisit to see the actual numbers once again once that is reconciled so you can see the extra numbers for the month of July and again for August thank you um
I have a question just just on the automotive whether um what do they do in Steam is it just basic basic and are they is there vehicles for them to take apart and put together or anything like that or is it just from the books so initially it's from the books so they do learn the schematic they have schematics of the vehicles that the students review and go over and then there there will be I believe in the second or third quarter I'd have to double check he starts having them actually work he has like two vehicles out there that students will go out and do oil changes um I've been in the classroom observing this was last year not this year where there they have to point out the parts so it it goes
from the book and it does go back out onto where the vehicles are your question no so it's not just the book they do do some small yeah because I have a 2009 reverse that needs a transmission and it's this city in my yard and I don't want it to ruin and and it's so I was seriously thinking because I don't have money to do a transmission of donating it to the school so the kids can and it's a newer models so it's like something we are not going to say no to gifts all donations needs to go through the parole approval the kids can get it running they can leave it in the parade for Mr nalam and say yes yes because they do work on on the like I said I know they
have two for sure there's a third one out there but I didn't see them working on that one so we will we'll take it and maybe they will get it running hours should you go to the video now oh wait Mr you had a question sorry it was just more so and no not question but um I know I ran into a couple of instances where pronouns to get into the school to talk about some of the things that you're dealing with so I just wanted to know if you have like a running schedule or something or direct contact and those are programs like opioid response programs and there was one I think I said today is that it was really it really placed a real world scenario into one pill is all it takes
these big things that are really destroying they really hurt I don't think they're equating that you know to their degree that they need to by how much of these things that we're just seeing over and over again and it's actually something Miss Crosscut has been working with as a matter of fact in next week we're going to have an alcohol prevention assembly with our students so there is some she's been working with some entities and I know the one you're talking about because I remember having that conversation so she's seeking out to have them come in and speak to our students great because then that was a little thing was you know peer participation like recognizing the signs until they're comfortable with even getting trained in marketing those types of things I mean we have
to get over the taboon is in the stigma we don't talk about it because this is happening so thank you take it away [Music] thank you [Music] thank you foreign [Music] and I want to thank Miss Elizabeth she put that video together and as you can tell some of those pictures in there were taken by our students thank you Mr Fox Europe over there good evening for president buendia board members superintendent Mr serious um seeing as we've highlighted some of our our board reports I want to talk about our attendance as well because we ran into the safe snap ooh but I re-ran it again this today and it seemed like the numbers are actually more in line because it said that our high school was at a hundred percent but we know that it
wasn't but I am glad to report that the middle school all 12 of them have not missed one day of school yet thank you up until today we haven't had one Middle School not be here um with that being said let me transition into the questions that were posed to us this morning to this um I did a comparison I'm sorry Mr Diaz I probably could have gotten a lot more comfortably so the page that doesn't have the red writer that's what we're looking at we'll look at that one later so I looked at as of today and this is including the drops that we've done so we did the drops um and then we reread the numbers so the middle school we have 12 kids that's 23 less than last year last year we
had a total of 35 of those middle schoolers and our 86 since these numbers have been pulled is up to 88 we had two more students enroll later in the afternoon um so we're right about the same last year and this year with our high school kids uh 125 students are what we more or less closed out with at the end of the school year and right now we're looking at 100 because we got a plus with two seniors uh the two high schoolers that enrolled today so that's just a quick comparison of where we were last year to this year and if you flip it over it will tell you uh more or less where they went so eight of those I looked up and I went to inactive students ones that have not
been on our campus this school year eight students have left the district um we have make calls home we've asked a majority of those are they're moving to an online platform um seven-year-old at the secondary campus those are ones that as Miss um labor alluded to was we were making sure we're transferring and getting them when they need to be because the rollover costs a little confusion uh we have unfortunately of three that are either in treatment or their status is run away with CPS and we withdrew eight of the 10-day drops today because that's how many film of the criteria for the 10-day drop what we've been doing since the beginning of the school year is teachers Miss Lafferty myself we've made phone calls um we've emailed and we've also gone on to social
I haven't yet a big social media to try to track down some of these students and our list that we went through eight today is down from probably about 18 because we were able to get a good 12 of those students to get back in the program get back into the campus before that 10-day drop um we have something that goes on with Ingenuity now because we found that our database in Synergy has been helping us we have a lot of emails in there so if we have an email and the student is under 18 every week in engineering progress report goes home so they're kicked out through too much surprise uh come down to the quarter and exactly in the semester so we're we're excited to see how that works out um so that's
where we stand with that I did tell you what our Middle School was doing and what I have now with what our high school is doing as far as attendance we have 14 9th graders they're at an 84.6 attendance rate our 10th graders nine of them um we did not have a great number with them that's 42 but when you have one or two that are suffering chronic absenteeism affects that's that number quite a bit we have 12 11th graders they're at 74 and then we have 51 12th graders who have 66 percent the older kids are um challenged because there are a lot of things going on for my students at that age with taking care of family having to work to help out financially um so we're going to work on them and
we're going to find ways that we can assist them to take their attendance that much stronger um pretty happy with the way Engineers has been going the first few weeks first week the over 200 assignment stuff in just the first what was it eight days of school seven days of school um and it's on and in the report it says no courses completed but as of today we have seven but they happened after July so they'll be reported in August um so with that being said if you have any questions on the board report itself I would be more than happy to answer them to the best of my agility and if not beautiful footage it's hard coming out to this group with these videos by the way [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music]
so the way the graduation pictures got sent in there again was you could see one of the eighth graders of the ninth grader named Tia and she said are you going to put us in for the beginning of the school year and I was like sure I think it'd be a great idea because they're very motivated we had a very we had a pretty nice class last year of eighth graders that promoted up and uh they're very excited and ready to get going so any questions comments or concerns um I'm really I'm really glad to see the um the numbers here um so the 90 students enrollment is that's the high school and then 45 is Middle School okay so 35 was last year's and 90s was last year's that was a comparison just to
see where we're going um so where at if you look at the first the the first set of numbers there's 12 Middle School students and we have 88 now again high school students that's compared to 22-23 of the 35 and 90. and those numbers were garnered from the from the month of May after the towards the end and that is including these yeah it is including those well actually no it's not including those drops because we dropped them already also so we've dropped them so these are these numbers the 88 and the 12 are real time write down numbers and so possibly tomorrow or the next day or the next day we're still going to have a couple guys that are falling into the 10-day drop so we monitor our activity drop every day because
unfortunately with us it could happen every day but we do put safeguards in prior to that by making the phone calls and making the attempts to try to get all components um I guess because I was concerned about the number of students that were being on site because of the um the no online um but I also um thought that you know you you'd it seems like because your campus is small um and you and there's just a few of the teachers there um that maybe that's something that a little time we might wanna uh think about is some kind of uh is looking for Grants for your specifically for your site um for those uh trips that maybe the students could go on just like the other schools you know and and then also
um with the tutoring or with the with the number of um kids that meet or students that need additional help that I know with the other sites and we've done the um the summer tutoring but yeah your site wasn't part of that um as far as foreign those teachers also get paid to do what what they're doing without amen you know that's that's for me that's really concerning because like it's not there it's really not fair that they really invest their time in these students and and they're not getting paid and so I want to want to see that they do get some kind of payment just like all the other tutors just like everybody else that's doing that because you know it's it's not right um so that might be something to look at
as well as grants and maybe additional help at the school because there's a lot of students now that are on campus compared and these numbers aren't going to go down they're only going to increase like I said we had two to four I don't think we got together two registered this afternoon because they came in so late um but those numbers are gonna are going to go up we're getting kids from all over we're giving them from Sean to teal high school to Catalina High School um again soul can you have that next meeting whether it's a discussion that has to happen before or whatever needs to happen because I feel like I agree and I think we talked about it for the student to teacher ratio at every other campus is pretty much agreed
upon here that if you have this many over this is what you're going to get you that's good to pay for that many students over um it's not fair to ask them [Music] instructor at least for but but maybe we're wrong maybe we're not looking at it the way that we need to but to me I love having more students we don't have enough non-student problem which means the school is doing good things if it weren't then I would say just lump them all over there at the other campus but they're doing something that's a little bit a lot different than what the other campuses are doing and it needs to be supported and I hope that we're all interview to support continue to support the effort especially what we've been able to observe in
the care not that everyone doesn't care but I think that this this a propriety that they really give to them as people and that's that's the aspect that like draws students to it um but you know that's just me again no absolutely you didn't hear enough in the last uh government board meeting that you wanted to apply coming forward you will be receiving what uh the options we're gonna have um we emphasize our energy and our focus in the last couple of weeks you know the areas that needed a major attention but definitely this is one of my priorities as well thank you all very much okay um all right um number five is our barbecue unified school districts [Music] foreign ASU I just wanted to mention their names and uh they're not fly or

have a manager that came on board effective immediately um and bringing in that level of support to um to the the transportation team we send out a communication to our parents to letting them know that we're moving forward and when they see a different bias that it's okay for the children to get on um and once again I I look forward to um coming back with more updates um and also asking the parents if there's any additional ways that we can improve um we are ears and we'll be more than happy to meet with them or read their emails or take the phone calls awesome no thank you special shout out to our committee as well Transportation Company anything else questions begin show our curriculum instruction department they happen together with the support our district
of our manager our video that they want to highlight what they've been working on for curriculum instruction that support many our essential uh take a look there's gonna be a quiz after this [Music] this is [Music] oh my gosh middle school and my biggest takeaway for today was the concept of the adopting people as peaceful people even in times of the greatest challenges and there's also a beautiful Community centered on sharing and helping one another which I find to be truly essential especially in this day and age my takeaways from today um I think the biggest thing I'm walking away with is um how I can see and feel how passionate the tejona author Community is in ensuring that they're giving their children the best education that they possibly can while integrating and keeping alive
their Traditions their culture and their language it's just a very beautiful thing to see and the amount of support and resources that they provide it just makes me even more excited to start the school year meet my students meet their families and connect with them and just learn more about the community so it's all very exciting thank you [Music] of me when you see what the principles are doing what uh the Departments are doing but I also want to curriculum and instruction are doing how everyone is being coming together and I can see the alignment and I can see everyone moving forward to reach our goals and speaking of goals one of the um bigger plans that we have not seen that we still need to see is now I'm gonna give a stage to
Mr Aaron base we can presented his three-year plan Mr Bates please take it away [Music] [Applause] all right so just so I wouldn't forget anything I put together a video for everybody I know January 1st 2023. now that we are more than halfway through the first year I'm happy to report progress in most areas there's University technology department is committed to supporting high quality education prescribed to work with students teachers staff administrators board members and the community to support technology integrated learning the busd technology department directly supports the district's strategic plan academic world targets goal number one eighty percent of the students will be proficient by reaching 90 or more Mastery in each essential standard on goal number two ninety percent plus attendance by a teacher by grade level by school by content and ninety
percent Parent Portal viewership I will be highlighting completed action steps and Majors outlined on the technology departments for your plan the highlighted action steps will be items with significant progress completed and items that have been completed the technology department will support students reaching 80 proficiency by streamlining technology resource availability to all stakeholders clever a single sign-on gateway to brsd Technologies has been implemented to improve data Integrations by allowing data to be sent to third-party learning platforms are more often providing a window for students staff and stakeholders to see every available technology resource in one area um and facility accurate class rostering on all third party systems clever is a gateway to all adopted by USD learning resources clever uh compatibility is now one of the top controls related to third-party software compatibility most all proven
and practical technology-based learning platforms are compatible with clever but USD recommends all systems adopted be compatible wsd technology department will support students reaching 80 proficiency by improving Safety and Security a safe and secure learning environment will be provided allowing everyone to focus on teaching and learning I had the opportunity to start off the year presenting on Cyber awareness at the DVC back to school event this was a great opportunity for everyone to learn about cyber awareness this was essential to ensure any busd system user had the formal overview related to cyber awareness cyber security is a high priority for the Bible keyword technology team and additional trainings related to cyber awareness will be happening additional actions such as evaluating internet filtering auditing and monitoring have been completed and the current vendor has been renewed solutions
for cyber security from the trust and the Arizona Department of Homeland Security have been implemented Microsoft and Google accounts used to access most of the district's data have been protected with a formless two-step login commonly known as doctor Authentication the technology department will support students reaching 80 percent proficiency by Future proofing District infrastructure and systems a hardware maintenance and replacement plan is a high priority the equipment life cycle is always considered to ensure students and staff have effective equipment to support teaching and learning The Five-Year Capital expense plan was submitted and will be revised in January again technology improvements have been recommended and will be rolled out staying within the funds planned and requested grants have been used and will continue to be used everywhere possible the district has adequate infrastructure and will continue improvements
over the life of a three-year plan in closing your bosd technology department is committed to supporting high quality education [Applause] so with that um so it based on a foodier playing I think we're we're now through about 30 completion of everything that we had listed um there's still a lot of work to be done so does anybody have any questions about any of those areas any questions for airing B2 in advance so I know that um everybody was talking about how or not everybody but there's talk about this energy Yes program um but the stock has now been getting trained on that so that way they'll be able to help everybody so that I think that totally great so thank you for that um and also for doing everything that you do with technology because
it's a lot and and we don't realize how important it is to make sure that we're continually we we know about the educational part of the technology part to make sure that all things are rolling smoothly sometimes we forget how important that is so thank you for everything thank you foreign debt if anything's going to leave there's going to be somebody else here now we've all been doing a lot of cross-training on Synergy um synergies directly related to the clever platform we are implementing to get everything potentially synchronized we're just trying to synchronize all of our third-party platforms better and having that deeper insight into Synergy is definitely already extensively so once again that was one of the top things on our three-year plan was to implement that data in a high level and that's
there's still some pieces there that are that need work but I do feel pretty confident within the next two years two and a half years however long it is we have remaining we should build a conference all those goals an action steps to get there the president would I just want to congratulate Aaron Bates not only for being brave and being bold and putting together his first video um very entertaining but most importantly um I appreciate technology for taking the time and finding how they are also aligning and supporting everybody else and how they see themselves as part of the bigger picture so I want to thank you for everything that you do for us uh and Mr Bates and I am very proud of what you've done not only getting us ready but also
on YouTube thank you appreciate you [Applause] and president of India also followed a principles report section and I want to give a shout out to um Dr uh Pettigrew for stepping up and supporting us in the translation and also the search of an ESS director and also for taking the time to um contact not only the parents but our staff in making Brazil available and also on as communicated in her report um making the arrangements to make home visits as necessary for those parents I also want to give a shout out to the sunrise house for serving um 1761 pounds of food so approximately 304 students for clothing and 68 students for McKinney event to the world in a park so thank you for the work that you do for the the families in the
student that is the most and also a shout out to operations custodians and also grounds for the work that they have done getting the schools ready and open they look absolutely beautiful thank you um for for all of the work and extend our appreciations um foreign [Applause] with that we'll go ahead and move on with our reading uh I'm not going to read all of these but number seven is information only for the board so just FYI in case there's something there you saw or didn't see but it is essentially everything you want to add to that maybe just see what's there okay all right um number eight if you have just information right now for the board or the first reading of the Arizona School Board Association policy advisor is um just real quick
on these policies and sending major uh once you look at the summary uh there was some conflict they didn't want to be confusing anymore that they're on these three policies they're removing board authorized from those policies but it is still the boards that they approve the Committees it's just a garbage of them I have some more based ones that are coming together more intense okay well with that I have a request for a break before we go into the action items foreign all right thank you so much um we'll go ahead and call the meeting back to order and move along with our agenda does he needs a letter F the action items for tonight number one is discussion and possible approval of speech language Pathologists and technician salary schedule for fiscal year 22-24 Amendment
uh president when we have members of the board um we are looking for your support in a network recruitment um a Speech Pathology says speech but our speed language technicians um based on a review on the average salaries we are of the low um average in the district um and we're coming to you to see if you can support us in increasing the the salary as presented and um one way to overcome the the shortage is by Outsourcing in these services but they are extremely expensive so in an effort to also be Financial responsible trying to uh recruit our own and keep our own in coming to you with this recommendation to be able to support us in increasing both starting salaries questions if you can get us some information on when's the last time
they did a full week study and whether or not this is just specific to this position or any other position that way um I'm gonna ask my experts and you know I don't need a response to them because it's not hasn't doesn't have anything to do with the item okay but we do have a study that is not last year okay thank you [Music] the motion all those in favor of the motion Sylvie hendrixwood you can't believe motion carries well I'll ask for it at the at the request for a creature agenda items but sorry number two discussion and possible approval of accuracy teetering accelerated learning from Mr Diaz president members of War um and members of the community case is also an exciting time uh we are getting ready to plan our after-school tutoring
um and I'm coming back once again in how to maximize our Sr funding outside aside by coming back and asking the support to approve 13 tutors for the KA and also three two uh tutors for the 9th to 12. um with a total expense of 123 000 that will be going straight into providing services for students that need the most questions in advance um is this I I hope that the [Music] um if possible the um Indian Oasis is calling the student indeed um this year we're gonna do it a little bit different every single school is going to have the touring and we're going to be able to Target specific students that have not only the the greatest need but something excited about this year's program also is going to be a two hour
um if one I will be able to ring the other one will be for enrichment so it does include okay yes it's a Ka program and uh nine through 12 program s nothing else a motion to approve second by Miss Kathleen Venice Apollos in general the motion Juan model Sylvia Hendrix number three is our discussion impossible approval of the 20 23 2024 teacher Mentor program the students president media members of the world one of the priorities that we have is not only to recruit but also to maintain um teachers and one of the ways to do so is to provide providing the support uh we have a rebound the mental program not only for the first but also seeking new teachers and we asking you support us so you've seen some of our set aside
as our free money to be able to provide all of the support of the new teachers have um through the program of curriculum infrastructure this Mentor program is it has a full schedule and by month by month to Target the needs of our teachers and Aaron if you don't mind a policing also or for the public to be able to see the schedule of curriculum and instruction have in mind to be able to address the needs for our new teachers and goal is for teachers to be able to meet throughout the year after school and to be able to extend the support that they receive in the area they actually needed um the time we're looking at 30 teachers to be able to get paid no I'm on the wrong there we go sorry as
you can see every single month they're going to be going through a very different screen uh very different uh topics each one of them is directly related to what is needed in each month so the goal is that they will be meeting after school and we want to be able to compensate other teachers uh for the hours that they're going to be spending after school not only to get better in those areas but to get support in the areas that they're gonna need some of the areas include report cards how to do it uh the reporters how to ensure that you should sense only the Fortified in screener IEP protocols uh Gradebook and so on and on so um I'm I'm in great support of this program in revamping it and also tied to curriculum
instruction and I'll get having the support ready for our little teachers not only the new but new the first and second year teachers questions um everything that they earned we need to add the benefits and that that's my understanding proportion and for anything additional supplemental is usually 20 18 to 20 so let me just round up to 20. if you were a contracted employee of like almost 30 percent it's a little less because we don't take out like uh we don't like it but then 1.2 percent what's up so twenty percent basically is what it is twenty percent of four of the overall salary that's being paid out so 20 of the covers benefit portions of supplemental uh funding and then this total is everybody I mean the October 30 or is that per 30.
[Music] correct [Music] so the schedule or the topics so we're talking about in August this is what they'll be the expectations you're kind of setting those with this as a mentor what they're going to learn that's in there okay this is what each Monday expected to work and get us what okay I'm sorry I guess Ella go ahead teaching instructions Medina our district coaches correct they're not okay this this is for the teacher specifically is going to participate I think it's a benefit to the teachers I think it's a it'll help them they are another that you can strategies and whatnot or you know probably well above what you know well done in the classroom but on top of that there are the early the I think they they probably need assistance and I know
that helps them overall throughout for male as as an exclusive support so with this optional then you just I don't participate just don't get paid but also you're not expecting that of them to know all of that it will be highly encouraged so I can just make them do it okay so um but we have 30 new teachers but so is this just uh cushion in case you get milk mortgage not only that um this is something that will bring you back there used to be a a mentoring program doing Kobe we didn't have it and last year we also didn't have it either this year we're bringing it back and we including not only this your new new year a new teachers but also last year new teachers to be able to bring that
level of support and our goal is that [Music] um moving forward everyone needs to go to a two-year new teacher program and goes um in line with also number 10 which is coaching and providing the support to our teachers I guess I will see it in the sense of not only providing that type of support service for students the support service for your staff okay so you take it well I would say when you're highly encouraging you what highly encourage those that probably really need to make sure and I will as well as the principal support if you're having what they've seen any print any teachers probably to also sign him up as part of their plan of improvement I like it first this year okay [Music] provided it well thank you for finding some
fun to help support it I think it's important advance and I really truly hope that those who can take advantage so uh we have room number four Mr zabala please I didn't have an opinion um I figured us when we were going to talk about divination card number four is update donation from the sales District okay that [Music] from this um but it is just approving the donation from the sales District for the Nexus trip for the students so let's uh so we just approved this one and the other ones okay all those inferior emotions Sylvie Hendricks Elementary Suite um Kathleen Vance Juan boudini recuse okay thank you number new number five is the um that's a duty uh questions that must Sylvia had for a second yeah I know this is well deserving I
just was wondering about um um some of the emails that I saw coming through I wasn't aware because I think we I had met with um Ruben before this got added on and I just didn't know anything about it until I've seen these emails you know that was uh that was shared by Ben regarding um this the second um I think there was one thing that I was wondering about in whether or not it has been turned in was the list of uh the log of I guess what what has been done above and beyond which meaning meaning the things that were for example working with the fire department with the police department but whatever else we've done or was done in order to make this retroactive to cover I think more or less and
I think I'm thinking it's called it'll be provided with um [Music] the audits that will cover be if this is the question this is why it was done to it and approved of course and so I was just wondering if that was turned in also [Music] but there isn't someone is the memo to the board okay yeah so open meaning well I know I can't add anything after the 24 hours so I got that memo after that time frame I got an answer from Gary after that time that's when all that stuff was submitted so I had to email it to you so you got it all on the same page yeah today is still work in progress Mr love has to ask for an extension to be able to complete and she feels that
he needs a little bit more time to complete all of the areas uh that can go out with all the projects hours and and weekends that has work to be able to sustain these um or support these um the part um the memo I apologize the memo was completed and sent and it would not end within the 24 hours but I did submit it with the board via email um and based on the conversations is that you will like this item to have not only the bar but all supplemental the limitation in order to be discussed I would like it TV but but also I mean if we don't if we don't have it we don't have it he's working on it um has there been a deadline to him to get that in or
just how much more extra 10 minutes for the questions the I'll make sure that he's completed before this this would be Black Friday at the end of business day okay ensure that we uh but you can ask for if not I'll go ahead and make the motion to get through uh with that threat chip that has to mentioned yeah second the motion yeah instances above and beyond uh all those interior motion one would give yes Kathleen Banks thank you um number number letter G is our consent agenda without objection a motion to approved okay bye Miss Sylvia Hendricks all those in favor how to make Greasewood Kathleen Vance motion carriers um each agenda item I know this Mr subologist sent us the the most recent um a way to study but anything on there but
the pet doll which is speech background please language so that wasn't included was there anything else that we missed on that wave City because I feel like we're gonna adjust wages and be fair and do it for everybody present with it I have requested and I'm working to find the funding to update the study and you know when we see the study about a year ago um a lot of the wages changed in the last year um and the study shows the average salary what's putting us in a disadvantage it is the starting salary so um I believe the request is about 8 000 hours to be able to redo the study Jose please remind me um it's almost nine thousand dollars so I have not confirmed any funding um I would be able to
bring the results of that study depending is not due to the support of finding the funding to be able to pay for that I'm sure we have some resource or availability through any of the associations or something repay I'm sure they do they do the superintendo wage studies so I don't know if there's maybe the possibility of there we go let me find out uh advantages now sent it to me well right now we had a summer Retreat and I believe Karen came and presented all the information on July 2020 . I need to see him after he wanted to get asked for her Spanish Tommy I know um I just just want to mention real quick um that asba has that art contest um and I would encourage our students to apply for for
that I mean it came down to that email and my feedback our students are very creative so um please encourage them to apply for DSP also has a 500 classroom grant for teachers in case your teachers are looking for classroom grants um items information anything for next meeting you want to hear on the agenda go ahead girl okay okay for sure um I would like to possibly meet the new manager if we can set that up you know they're busy let them do what they need to do but much more uh for six months you guys are all set up with the room you guys are awesome registered uh I believe this is Juan and Anna Marie for that waiting for the annual conference to open up do we know who's going to students um
we do have two students um Jessica summer and what is um and then you'll send us all the activities so thank you next all those in favor that would make Greasewood Catholic man
