001Everybody ready? Okay. Good evening. It is April 27th, 2026 at 7:46 p.m. And I would like to call to order the meeting of the Lyall Community Unit School District 202. Could you please, Board of Education, would you please give us your roll call? Yeah. Um, Miss D. Dominico >> present. >> Miss Foster >> present. >> Miss Novasel >> present. >> Mr. Naggler >> present. >> Mr. Helderly >> present. >> Um, Miss Sims is present and Miss Alman >> present. Thank you. Before we proceed with the agenda, I wanted to take a few minutes to uh again sadly acknowledge the passing of another valued member of our district 202 teaching staff uh which occurred since our last board meeting. Gian Han, a beloved first grade teacher at Lyall Elementary since 2020, lost her valiant battle against

002cancer on March 26th, 10 days after her 40th birthday. As evident at her memorial service, Mrs. Han made an indelible impact on students and staff through her kindness, leadership, and positivity along with her dedication and unwavering commitment to her work right to the end. She was recognized as an incredible educator with a natural gift for connecting with others and her poise and radiant joy left a lasting lasting mark on everyone she met. I am sure her lessons will stay in their hearts. So, if you would please join me um in observing a moment of silence to honor Mrs. Han and to keep her husband and two young daughters along with her Lyall Elementary family in our thoughts. Thank you. If we could now rise for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag

003of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Just to remind everyone of our Lyall 202 mission statement, which is to provide our learning community with the essential education, skills, and experiences for future success. and we'll keep those thoughts in mind this evening. Do we have any public comment that was submitted online or we do not. Great. Thank you. Which brings us to item five, which is our action items. I >> uh >> Miss Foster >> I >> Mr. Nigler >> I >> Miss Domenico

005>> I >> U Miss Novasel >> I >> Miss Sims is an I and Miss Alman >> I thank you. Brings us to item 5B which is the selection of board officers. The board of education established one-year terms by office by resolution through board policy 2110 qualifications terms and duties of board officers. Uh the current board of um positions were approved by the board of education on April 28th, 2025 for a one-year term. So at this point, um I will make a motion to appoint the superintendent as president prom. Uh that does not need a second, but uh uh all in favor >> I >> and those opposed. Okay. I will then open uh turn it over to our president. >> Pro Tim. >> At this point, I'd like to ask if there's any nominations

006for the president. >> I nominate Pam Alman. >> Do you accept the nomination? Mrs. Alman? >> I do accept. Yes, I do. >> Any other nominations? With there being none, uh we just need to have a voice vote. All in favor for Pam Alman to be president, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? All right. Congratulations, Mrs. Almond. Thank you for your service. >> Okay. I will follow the same procedure procedure for the election of the vice president. Um, at this point, I will open the floor for nominations for vice president of the board of education. >> I nominate Mr. Helderly. Are there any other nominations? Okay, with one nomination, I will then uh >> doesn't have to accept. >> Oh, do you accept? I'm sorry. Okay, thank you. Thank you very much. >>

007That was I get >> Thank you for pointing that out. No, it was good to be technical. Okay. Then I will uh uh ask for a voice vote for the election of Daniel Hilderley as the board of education vice president. All in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed. Okay. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Hilderley. And congratulations. Okay. Same. I will follow for the secretary. At this point, I will open the floor for nominations for secretary of the board of education. >> I nominate Miss Sims. >> Okay. >> I accept. >> Okay. Are there any other nominations for secretary? >> Hearing none, I will ask for a voice vote. All in favor of Mrs. Sims being the secretary of the board of education. >> I. Those opposed. Okay. Thank you, Mrs. Sims, and congratulations. >> Thank

008you. Okay. Which brings us then to our financial information item six on the agenda. The board acknowledges receipt of the following reports. 6 A, financial report. 6B, treasury report, and 6 C investment concentration and collateral report. March 31st, 2026. there were any I don't believe we received any uh questions in advance but does anybody have any questions or comments? Okay. Uh brings us to item seven which is our discussion of um board committee assignments. According to board policy 2150 committee, the board of education may establish committees to assist with the board's governance function function and in some situations to comply with the state law. Below is we we have the following current board member committee assignments. Um I I will go through them and um if I could uh just have your agreement a voice

009vote on whether or not you would want that to continue. It's more of a discussion for our finance. Do we want to continue with the committee of the whole? >> Yes. Okay. Uh facilities master planning committee is Sims, Almond, and Foster. Um do you all wish to remain on that list and >> sure I can remain on there? >> Yeah, it's fine. >> Okay. All right. Great. Um policy is committee of the whole and are we agree in agreement to continue that? >> Yes. Vision 202 facilitating committee is currently Almond and Negler with the alternate alternate is D Dom Dominico uh with a space between D and Dominico. Um do we wish to I will continue on that. Greg, are you >> I'm comfortable remaining on unless >> Okay. wants to. >> Yeah. And and

010please I didn't receive any comments, but if you if anybody wants to jump in on any of these committees, just let me know as we go through them. And Paula, you're good with being the alternate. Terrific. Classified seal negotiations. It's currently Sims and Negler with al alternate is elderly. Are we good with that? >> Okay. And certified LEA negotiations. Um, Sims and Niggler. Alternate is elderly. Good with that also. >> Good. Yeah. >> School improvement and monitoring tool format committee is foster, elderly, and almond with alternate negler. We keep trying. Um, do we want to continue on that or >> Well, I had a question. Is that that committee had a meeting in the last year? >> We have not. >> Okay. >> But I'm comfortable in the alternate on that. >> Okay. Do we

011want to keep the committee? Do we want to keep on the committee? Are we are comfortable? >> I still think we should try and get some stuff on the agenda for that. I know it just keeps there's so many other things, but >> so many other priorities we we keep for now. We'll >> okay >> we'll figure something out >> try to plan something within the next year. All right. Um and also we have the school board members serving on external committees. Intergovernmental is almond with alternate is elderly. I am fine with um continuing with that if you are professional council is almond with alternate is sims. We're comfortable. ISB delegate to board elderly and the alternate is SIMS. >> Okay. >> Ly education foundation. I'm I'm uh my office is still on I I

012think I have two more years on that. Um comfortable with continuing lend um it's almond uh Dr. Philippiac and often uh Mr. Marker are on those calls for lend as well. So that was good. home and school, HSO council, Foster, Domenminico, and Novasol and rotating and it seemed to work well this past year. Are you good with continuing that? >> Yeah, that's that's great. >> Great. Okay. Uh Sassid governing board is Naggler with alternate is D. Dominico. >> I'd like to stay in the position though. Um I'm noting the next one board of directors. Isn't that uh Dr. Philipak? Board of directors. Yes, >> I can never remember the titles, but you're the one who makes the big decisions. I'm the one that's fortunate enough to go to the monthly meetings, so I don't I

013don't remember the titles in that, but uh >> I'm very comfortable with that schedule. >> Okay. All righty. So, do we want to add Dr. Philippiac to that or just since it's board committees, we can't really because he's on there. So, I think we went through this last year, too. So, let's just leave as is then with Thank you, Mr. Negler. >> Okay. if uh we really don't vote on these but if uh wanted to discuss it and make sure that everybody was in agreement with what is currently presented. So thank you. >> Did we have to go through that for finance chair? >> Uh we will at the next finance meeting. >> Okay. >> I look forward to that. >> Okay. Yeah. We have to and we should do that for policy as well

014at the next at this policy meeting. We need to >> Yeah. Okay. which um brings us to 7B on the agenda which is our board policy review. So I will turn it over um and at the end we can decide if we want to u make that selection for the board uh policy chair uh this this time or next whichever you prefer Mr. Chair >> this time. >> Okay. >> All right. All right. I have everybody get set for a few short policies to review. Starting with a policy 2 col 200 type of board of education meetings. Um I think if everybody pull up the packet you'll see everybody's uh feedback and questions there. I think generally the was accept changes presented. Yeses there was a question I think uh Paula you had around should

015we post the agenda district's office in the meeting location. Most of the time it's the same location. Yeah, we do have it posted outside here. So, I think does that answer your question? >> No. >> Or >> I just was like clarifying my statement. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Excellent. So, any other discussion of that? And I do apologize. I'm going to try to go through these fairly quickly. Just tell me when to put on the brakes and I'll slow it down. So, all right, let's be a little accept approved as presented. Um, mov to policy 2 col 220 board of education meeting procedure. Uh, again, I think most folks indicated yes, but I think Paulie indicated a no. Um, let's just open it up for discussion. There was a lot of comments in there, but

016I think Paul >> I think I I think I misread it because I was reading it as now I like I don't I missed the word on all action items. So I do think we should have a roll call on all action items. I was reading it as all items like every time we entered the meeting, every time we left the meeting. Okay. And I didn't think that was necessary, but I do think we should um vote for all action items. >> Okay, great. >> And Heather, you had a question as well. >> Yep. My answer was maybe. I just wanted to confirm I think what we just said which is we already do this as a matter of practice. So yes. So then yes. >> Okay. Great. >> I I think in in my

017comments I added in there that yes we a vote is required um if we're spending money expenditure of money the closing of a meeting to the public when a board member requests a roll call or when specifically required by law. So it's not always but it's in the majority of the times. >> Okay. All right. And Kate, you had a question about for when a res a resident suggests a agenda item that needs to be unanimous vote, but you uh were questioning whether we could just do a majority. >> Yeah. In paragraph two, it says an agenda item suggested by district residents that needs to be a unanimous vote to put them on a future agenda. Could it just be a majority vote? >> I I don't know. It must be a legal requirement if

018they had um I don't know I don't know if you had a chance to research it then. >> I did not research that and >> we'll have to look through what the I just I feel like so many other things we have we do by majority vote. So it just if six people were on board with investigating something further, >> could one vote hold it up? I'm I'm glad to research the the why it states it that way if we want for the next meeting and we could clarify. >> I can look into it as well. I I know I was asking press about a couple of these and I didn't hear back. Um I know it was the press recommendation but I'm not >> certain that it's a legal requirement. We may have some

019flexibility. If the board's interested, I can check. >> Sure. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Okay. I don't know five or something >> whether it's a some sort of state school code or not or but if you research adjacent Mr. Marky that'd be great. >> Yeah, thank you for it. Just seemed unusual compared to all our other operations. >> Good point. >> So we'll take this back for second reading with what we find and then at that point we can say accept changes approved or we can change it from unanimous to majority. Okay. Excellent. Anything else? Okay, moving on to policy 2250, access to district public records. Um, I think there was uh one change of going from high volume to voluous uh in the second paragraph on page 11. >> Well, it currently says voluminous and

020that kind of read like a shampoo commercial to me. It seemed weird. So, I was just wondering if high value might be >> better policy language. I >> I I think I know >> verbose or involve but it's it's not a high priority item but >> yeah I know for like lot the uh the the foyer requests we often respond this is voluous or voluumis it's voluous right >> voluminous >> I believe it is voluminous I think >> voluminous >> um but that is the one of the common foya responses that districts can give uh as far as a reason to decline an initial request. So, it is a legal term that's used in a little bit of a different piece. >> Dr. Philippiac, you probably speak to that. You >> No, no. And and

021everyone's hair looks very voluminous, so it would be consistent. So, but no, it is a technical term used often by us. >> So, you're keeping the V the voluous word. >> It sounds like we should. Yeah. >> Okay. All right. And I think we had one question here. Uh Randy, uh response from uh administration. Um >> I think that's the next one. >> Or am I on the next one? >> Yeah, that's the next policy. >> So for this one, sorry, let's miss the line. So basically decision approved as presented. All right. That good. All right. Moving on to uh policy 2260 uniform grievance procedure. Um as a lot of you saw we'll we'll need to change the name of the non-discrimination coordinator and title 9. Uh and that'll be updated around July 1st when

022um >> we have the new hire start and so um I think that there was a one change in the sentence delete the word 'the'. It's sort of like the this I think. So correct that. And then going down to Randy, you had a question uh regarding basically how it basically works. >> Yeah. I was basically asking like if a parent was complaining about like their child being bullied, do they then have to be updated on every stage of the investigation? And I see that you answered that. Makes sense. Like if they go through the complaint manager, that's where it's required to do that. But if they go directly to like the principal who is not the complaint manager, then they don't have to update them on Okay. >> Yep. Does that make sense? Yeah.

023So, it's it's basically just one route has very formal kind of technical procedures. The typical route is working through the school. Um, still will be communication. It just isn't time bound the same way and the actual steps aren't locked in in the same way. Well, and I assume with updates on the investigation, they still have to keep within HIPPA regulations and so they can't really say a lot anyway. It's just like, yes, it's still ongoing. >> Yeah. But with the uniform grievance uh procedure, it it kind of binds you again to following up at certain steps in the process, but not disclosing information that should be private. >> Okay. Thanks. >> All right. Okay. With that, any additional discussion? >> Do you think people understand the difference? Like do you think people understand what the

024complaint manager for just in the general district? I mean we write the policy so like or we vote on the polic. >> So I mean I've served in that role uh previously in other districts. So it's it's usually a conversation to explain and a lot of times you know once it's articulated in all honesty a parent or another community member or staff member sometimes it it could be anyone really going through that procedure really decides that oh there probably is another route. They they just go to the first place. So often it's it really starts with that discussion to make sure there's clarity. Um, you know, I think it's hard in any sort of policy like this to make sure everyone is clear on it, but we want to make sure that they know who

025to contact, who to follow up on, even if that ends up being redirected to something that maybe makes more sense. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Sure. >> Okay. Any further discussion? If not, we'll accept uh approve as presented with the suggested formatting changes and knowing the name will change in July 1st. Okay. Excellent. Moving right along. Policy really policy 4 column 140 e exhibit guidance for board member communication including email use. Uh M. Almond noted that there's a note on information in number six. Um I think uh Heather you suggested if we accept principal unless we add some detail on when litigation hold takes effect pending definition on and colon for in 2250-app2 you want to expand on that >> well sure so there's a note at the in a remember section in this policy

026that says um don't destroy materials at one once litification holder goes into effect, but litigation hold when that goes into effect isn't necessarily defined in that policy, but it refers to 2250-app2, but I couldn't find that. So, I was just curious if we define when that period starts at all in policy. >> Yeah. So, in the administrative procedure, that's kind of more on on our side of the of things. It does walk through kind of that process clearly. I I pulled it up. Um, so it it really is going to depend on when our attorneys tell us there's a litigation hold and typically we'll we'll be a little bit more proactive than that when we see something coming. Uh, but certainly when there is that litigation uh pending or there's a litigation hold, then we

027make sure and follow through so no records are destroyed that have anything to do with that particular case. Um, so there's there's a few other specific steps and kind of things that the the procedure calls out and I can certainly share that procedure if the board would like. Are those posted somewhere? >> The administrative procedures aren't posted publicly. They're uh an internal document for administration. >> Okay. >> So, I think I'm hearing you say that there's probably no reason to to define when litigation hold starts here because that's a conversation with the attorney in terms of the situation. >> Correct. It's very specific, I think, to the to the situation and once our attorneys let us know there there's an actual um litigation in process and then that's when that procedure should be followed. >>

028Okay. >> There's any changes needed. >> Okay. Thank you. >> So, I think with this and also Mr. point out uh some paragraph changes with capitalization of the word board and um in the case if you look at the policy on page 19 there you'll see some bolded text board member alert I think we've customally simply said put in our emails asterisk you know do not reply all if we wanted to continue just change the language to simplify it to do not forward and reply all in those areas The language we currently use was ISB recommended. Um I think it's shorter. It's it's more direct and my my thought is we policy should reflect what our practice is. So why not just have it in there? I think we have do not forward or reply

029all >> simpler. >> I think that makes sense to match a good suggestion. >> Okay. So any further discussion? Okay. So approve with as presented with suggested formatting changes. Excellent. Moving right along. Policy 4, column 165, awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse and grooming behaviors. Um I think there's a question if we're moving item four completely. Should we include something about item three and and how about district will notify parents when that course will be completed during the year so parents are able to have a follow-up conversation with their child. any um I think I did not mark who >> it was me. >> Okay, thank you Randy. >> I was just wondering since they're removing that whole um part about informing parents about what's going on because it's not required anymore. I still

030think it might be good >> if parents know ahead of time like this is going to be discussed so they have an option to talk to their child about it. Um, I don't know if that was something that we could put in the policy since they removed that whole other section. It doesn't need I'm not trying to keep the section they're trying to remove. It's just maybe something about we'll let parents know um during the school year when this is going to happen or something. I don't know. >> Yeah. I mean, if if the board is interested in that, it's certainly can be handled a couple different ways. It could be written in the policy. We can always go further than uh the the state demands or uh compels us to or we can make

031sure it's an internal practice. I guess it's really to what the preference of the board is. >> I would agree with Randy. I think something to let parents know. I think it right might especially if a a a child comes home and kind of gives you information on it out of context. >> Um it could raise some alarms. it could raise some parents reaching out to the school with just bits and pieces of information. Um, and I think if you knew what was going on, you had that information, you could put it in context for your child at home and also I think reinforce it. Um, I I think there's a lot of other scenarios that uses some of those same languages. Um, so, you know, just so parents can support that at home if

032they ever needed to. >> Is there suggested language the board is interested in for that or we could potentially work on something. >> Um, can Well, what did I put back here? >> I guess can we talk about it and um see what would be an appropriate way to word it? But yeah, I was just basically thinking like if um we're going to do this education that we would let parents know or give them notice or something ahead of time. >> So, however we can formally >> we can work on I can work with the schools on something and and put some language together for the next reading. >> May maybe also what you put in there, Randy, um the district will notify parents when the course will be completed during the year >> so

033they are able to have a follow-up conversation with their child. That seems to work. And but I I have a question um for consideration as well because in the last line of what was struck >> um it states that they have the opportunity to object in writing and would that remain or would it just like it just be we're just notifying families this is what's happening? Um >> I believe it was in the newsletter. I think like that's how I read about the that information. Um, and so I just if the law I don't know if it conflicts with what the law is like do parents still have the right to object to that or >> I I mean parents always have the right to to share their opinion on something. I guess it's really

034if we want to call out in those specific instances like the law has in the past. So I I think what it >> what how I understand it is the they basically taken back that mandate to to spell it out in this situation, right? both with the the time period to inform parents and that specific area to call out the the right to object. Um again, parents can object for any number of reasons. We could certainly collect that. It's just whether we want to call it out in this specific instance. >> It it was it does say that the re repeal that 105 u uh of the Illinois code was repealed. So, it might be a technicality. Maybe it's best not to have it. We could kind of look at what the what that code

035says. >> Yeah, >> I I would I would think they took it out because of that and I think it would be sufficient just to have it without, but we can confirm that. >> Yeah, that would be good. >> Building on your question though, if a parent really didn't want their children in this, that that option's gone. Am I understanding that correctly? >> I don't I don't think so. I think it's just not named here. It's named in probably curriculum. >> Correct. So, this would be under the curriculum objection. People could still a parent uh or a guardian could still object to this and then we would work through that process like we would in any number of situations for a student to find an alternate activity and work with that family and that student.

036So, it's just whether again some of these policies in the past have been called out in those specific areas, but we have other places where we can act on that and be responsive to parents. >> Okay, that sounds and I know this is your first year with our district going through these, so maybe this is more a question for Dr. Philippia, but have we typically had people request to not be present for this? Is that something that has occurred in the past? >> I'm not aware of anyone requesting not to be present. Okay. I just I think if we provide the notification that I know this can be a sensitive topic for families. So at least if they knew it was coming then they have the opportunity to follow the other policies we have in

037place if that's something they wanted to handle on their own. >> So just be clear you're getting back to the communication of the topic coming up. Right. Really the key piece here. >> Yeah. I think the communication would be great because then it could allow people if they had concerns to reach out and then our other policies it sounds like will still support that decision. >> Yeah. So we don't have to list the part about being able to object to it if it's covered in curriculum somewhere else. >> Okay. >> Probably or or the less than 5 days. >> Yeah. >> Yep. That's what I thought. It wasn't as much about the time bound nor the objection. It's really about the communication in advance. >> Yeah. >> Perfect. >> So what's the takeaway on that

038last bit to confir? So, um, I'll I'll draft something that I can share in advance, uh, with the schools about, uh, the schools communicating prior to the topic being discussed. Uh, but it won't include a specific time kind of, uh, piece element to that, nor the objection language. Is that fair? >> Great. >> Excellent. All right. So, we'll have that back for second reading. any other I think um Heather, you point out the first sentence seems to diminish the importance of this. >> I just didn't like it um because it draws a conclusion about the harm, but it like felt kind of minimizing. That said, I did look it up and most of the area districts have that exact same language. So, this is a me thing. Um, but I maybe just wanted to mention

039that it kind of felt off that we were drawing a conclusion like kind of lists like harm to the student and the district. It kind of listed them all as equal, which is not obviously it's that this topic is more grave than that. Um, but like I said, the other districts are leaving that language in and that so that's fine. Um but the question for the administration was do is there more detail in a handbook somewhere and you provided the language which I think is very similar but I think it it adds the context that's also important that we don't have in the policy which is good. >> Okay. >> And Mr. Mark, in the in all the in the revision you do, would would we look at that first sentence to say to Heather's

040point of any revision there or just simply since other districts have it, we'll just keep it? >> Well, I with this one, I' I'd be a little hesitant. I mean, if we want to look at specific language, I just get a lot of these there there's a lot of legal eyes on the original writing. So, I don't want to do something that somehow unintentionally obviously as we all would be um changes the definition of of something in the policy. Again, it would be completely unintentional. So, I would be a little little cautious about that. >> Great. >> We could certainly I mean, if we want to I would just probably want our attorneys to take a peek at it. >> Good keep it as is. >> Yeah, I mean I think we should keep it

041as is. And I think the handbook goes into a little bit more where it's like how to report it and you should immediately contact the building. And so it I think that does the the heavy lifting there. I think that's okay. >> Thanks. All right. We'll have someone back for second reading. U moving on to policy 530 hiring process and criteria. Uh I think on Pam, you point out on page 24 investigations that second sentence is confusing. Should the superintendent or designate or be deleted and the sentence start with if looking that >> so it's page 24 under investigations >> the superintendent where does shall ensure that a finger is it that one fingerprint based criminal history records check check and check with the state Is that right in the middle where it says the

042superintendent has a comma or if the applicant is su a successful superintendent candidate then the board president shall notify the applicant if the applicant is identified in the database is that the sentence >> the super right that first sentence >> or I'm sorry the second sentence is confusing Not the first one. First one wasn't too clear either, but that's okay. Um, >> it's long. >> I I think how I'm reading it is that it's either the superintendent or the designate unless we're hiring a superintendent and then it's the board president. >> That's how I I read it as well. the the only case where it's not the superintendent is if we're hiring that position. >> So, it is it is an awkward sentence. >> Very awkward. I had to read it, I think, like six

043or seven times, I think. >> Do we want to change it or do we want to just assume it's just us that'll be looking at that with because we're hiring the superintendent? >> Do we want to try rewarding that sentence? I think we would have to put it into two sentences because it's uh it's about communicating, right? Like the it letting them know whether or not they're identified. So it's the superintendent and if it's the superintendent candidate then the board president. So it's just I think it would be two sentences to clear it up. >> Yes. So I think we can take back and play with the language. Mark Jason or we'll Okay. So just after between uh board and and the board president, just make that two sentences. Just stop with the board. >>

044You would break up that >> instead of the comma, change it to a period. Okay. >> Yeah. That seems a little less confusing. >> You say take away the comma. >> Change change the comma to a period. I think you'd have to put like so the superintendent or designate shall notify an applicant if the applicant is identified in either database and then a second sentence would read if the applicant is a successful superintendent candidate then the board president shall notify the applicant if the applicant is identified in the database. So just be adding just to get rid of the >> confusion. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. >> There's like lots of words. I will watch video back at 8:23 and capture what >> remember D. Dominico just said. >> Um, note 8:23. 8:23 p.m. Okay. All

045right. So, I think uh I think we had a couple questions. They've been to the administration. I think they've been answered. Gage, is there anything else you wanted to >> Yeah. I just um there's not a certain type of physician that has to complete so any doctor can complete the form. >> I mean it our form says I think it just literally says physician. So um beyond that yeah we don't we don't have anything specific. Has there been consideration of making sure it's like an occupational health specialist? Because most places if you have to get like a fit for duty assessment. Um, not all physicians board certifications make them qualified to like like you don't go to your dermatologist, right, to to get clear for that. So, if it just says physician l I think

046it was physician licensed in the state of Illinois. Uh, it gives a really broad spectrum of who could do it. Um, and most people if you're going to do it like a fit for duty, it has to be someone with an occupational health background. >> Um, I guess I would this this would probably be a good question for some maybe some of my colleagues in other districts. Do you mind if I reach out to them? My only hesitation is I just I would hate to create barriers for some of our employees. I I guess I'm not as familiar obviously you are with um with that lensure or certification for physicians to have. So, if it's something common enough, great. I would just be cautious that we're we we don't set up too many barriers. Certainly,

047we want someone that's qualified to do it. Um, so I I guess I I' I'd want to learn a little bit more. >> Yeah. I mean, they're pretty common like all the health care systems in the area have them. They have they usually, you know, they can refer people. There's open hours. You go in there, you get an appointment and that physician or sometimes a like a advanced practice provider like a PA is trained to specially check to make sure that you're, you know, able to physically like move and lift and do all those things and, you know, work around whatever the requirements of the job, which um, you know, they they see a multitude of different >> sure >> positions. So those requirements would be different. Um, but I think a lot of them

048only I know a lot of industries I don't know about education but will only accept something from like a a designated occupational health provider. >> Okay. So, a couple takeaways. We'll look at rewarding those couple of sentences and Jason will reach out to some colleagues in the verbiage about physician for sure. >> Okay. >> Dan, if we could go back to um I just want to clarify on that 530 >> uh part of the confusion. It's actually the third sentence of that second paragraph and and that's what you were looking at and I had written second in the comments. So it's the third question third sentence that needs to have that first part just removed. >> They're all very long sentences. So >> it's the superintendent need comma or if the applicant is a successful

049superintendent candidate within the board comma she'll know if I that's the one right. Okay. >> Yeah I've noticed both of them because they kind of blend together. I think >> figure out some language that's a little bit more clear. All right. Any add any additional discussion on this item? Okay. Moving on to policy 5 col 50 drug and alcohol-f free workplace ecigarette tobacco and cannabis prohibition. I we had some questions the administration they've answered it. Do we have any further discussion? They answered sufficiently. Okay. Um any additional discussion? >> No, I just w want to just quick clarify on the um if you seem impaired from a prescription, it would just be based off a colleagueu's assessment of you in the workplace. There's nothing specific. So someone could just say, I feel like my colleague

050A over here seems impaired. Colleague B could say that. And it would just be whatever their assessment is of the situation, they just report to their supervisor. it it to to start a process to start the process and then we would want to to make sure and kind of follow it where the the situation leads. So >> been involved in those a few different times. Often it's working with that particular employee uh that there may be concerns about and then working through the process with them. Whether it's referring them to a physician or a doctor to to get uh checked. Um it could be the district's healthcare provider. It kind of depends on what the situation is and what uh exactly is being exhibited. They it was something where it was like an acute impairment

051where the district wanted to do I know says no random drug testing but it seemed like possibly necessary drug testing. Is there specific triggers for that or would that be something that you guys would decide is something necessary to do because that can be timesensitive to see. that yeah that would be definitely not a random situation right that would be something where we would intentionally make a decision and that would be something we would certainly consult uh likely with legal about and uh among ourselves to make sure that that particular situation calls for it >> be something we'd want to be really thoughtful about but depending on the circumstances it could call for it >> do you have um and I'm sorry I didn't ask this earlier so you probably don't you might you might

052already have this but do we have a designated place that we would utilize if someone needed to go for testing. Do we have a designated process? >> We do not in the in the district as far as I'm concerned. We'd have to kind of figure that out in the moment. >> Okay. Um just if you're looking to usually they have to go to like one of those there's only certain places that would facilitate that for an employer like a drug test. You can >> just go to like a convenient care or something. So >> are you talking about in the case where they might be intoxicated? intoxicated. Yeah. From substances. I know there's been cases reported where and you it's time sensitive, right? They can't find out three days later because then it could potentially

053clear their system. >> We've had a number of those since I've been here and generally we just work with Ly Police Department. they come over because we have a school resource officer and they've been trained to be able to kind of determine whether somebody is intoxicated and then it's not uncommon that they offer that they go down to the police station and have a test but they have to agree to that >> and they'll do they do they do alcohol and drug testing all of that at the police department >> that was my understanding it's been a few years but yeah >> okay I maybe if we're checking on the health screening thing may just double check just because if I think if we had the situation occur, you would need to know in the

054moment who would be handling that because it would, you know, you may have to find out within a short period. >> We'll do a little bit more research, but in the past, we've just contacted our school resource officer and worked with him or her to determine whether somebody was intoxicated and do their test. >> Okay. So, do we want to approve as presented? However, administration will come back with some clarification on what the procedure is or what is that what we want. >> I don't know that it impacted the policy. I think it was more of a follow-up question. Correct. >> Yeah, just more for our procedure. I think the policy as written is fine and I think having some latitude in that determination is supportive of your need to assess atypical situations. Um I

055just want to make sure there's a procedure in place um for that because you do have to act quickly. >> So you so you you administration come back with some clarification around that although we approved the language. Okay. >> And and sorry just to add to that is there and this might be if we're communicating with the attorney on something it like if there was a concern like what level there's different levels of testing. Some some substantiate concerns more than others. So, like would it need to be a blood test versus a like uh you know um the name's escaping me when they they blow into the little machine. So, breath breathalyzer. Thank you. All right. Any additional discussion? Okay. Moving on to policy 51250, leaves of absence. Um I think we're we're taking the

056default uh answer to the question since we're more than 51 employees. Um, we had responses to questions of the administration. Any further discussion? We're good. Okay. Uh, we'll approve as presented. >> Oh, I'm sorry, >> Dan. I'm so sorry. Um, the reason I asked that question, I know that had come up in the past. Um, is that something we should have in our policy? Just a line that states if you're requesting a personal leave that there is a process you have to go I believe it's straight to Dr. Philippia, correct? To request that. >> Sometimes it goes directly to our HR coordinator, but then she connects with one of the two of us and then we ultimately get involved. But I'm not necessarily the first contact, but it's usually the HR coordinator or could be

057us. I just for the like for you know people who are employees of the district regardless of role for them to all look at it and say this feels equitable you know should there be a line saying any personal leave requests outside of the affforementioned reasons right I think we did a great job going over like the FMLAs everything I think it's very thorough but um needs to be in request to this person and then brought to the board for discussion right because we have to vote on any additional ones or you decide I feel like your question is very broad and so FMLA we usually bring to the board but legally you can't say no anyway. We would evaluate whether or not it's legal if you're talking about FMLA. >> I just meant like

058non like FMLA. Yeah, you're right. That's a we don't need to see those. But like just a personal leave outside of all the ones you have written in the policy if someone requested an additional leave like personal time off. So are you saying like as an example on unpaid leave somebody says I'd like to take the rest of the school year off. I know I don't qualify for anything but I it it so generally what we would do is we would meet with probably more Jason than me with that individual get some of the facts. If we felt like it was something that we supported it aligned with the the negotiated contract then we would bring it to the board for approval if that's what you're asking. >> And that's th those uh that procedure

059that process really is enumerated in the contract. in both employee contracts, which is probably more typical where the employee is going to to look for that. >> Okay. We I just want to make sure just so that everyone feels equitable that if people are going to request it that that's visible in policy if it needs to be just so >> we follow the same process every time. >> Pretty much all of our employees fall under one of the collective bargaining agreements and as Jason said, it's kind of outlined in there what qualifies and what doesn't qualify. It does say please refer to the um contract >> to the contract in because I I I think the other thing maybe to keep in mind this probably is why that language was refer to the contract because

060the contracts at times can be a little bit different between our different employee groups. So then you're not kind of bound by one policy trying to cover all employee groups. Um but you can be specific to that particular group in that contract. >> Okay, >> does that make sense? >> Okay. Yep, that works. Thank you. Yeah, of course. >> Okay. Any further discussion? Okay. The decision approved as presented. Okay. Moving on to policy 5 go 330. Sick days vacation holiday and sick leaves. I think we had a similar question about procedures on submitting those. >> Oh, I asked the same question under both. So, because I I read both and I had the same question pop up, but you already answered it. So, thank you. >> Great. All right. So any further discussion approved as

061presented. Moving on to policy 665 student social and emotional development. Um >> I think Randy hit you had some disagreement with some of the changes. If you want to >> if I remember they were like removing the dashes between words and making them underscores and I don't know why it looked really weird but then they were leaving dashes in other spots. So, I was confused on those changes. >> It's page 38. >> Mhm. >> The social awareness they >> That was one dash. >> Are you talking about the first line where it's social and emotional learning? >> I believe so. Hold on. >> I I think it's only underlined because it's a change to capitalize it. I don't think it would follow in the actual rewritten policy and it seems like it's removing the dashes

062and it's just making it a thing. >> Correct. I think it's the the kind of the red lining changes are making it look like those are dashes. >> Well, but it's also if you go down to item number one >> social awareness. Um it was social- awareness. Now they're putting in that it's social awareness. It's in >> they're not hyphenating it anymore. Is that what you're saying? >> But they're putting an underscore instead. So I don't understand. >> I think it's just >> Sorry. I think it's just adding the space. >> They do too >> to denote the change. >> Okay. So it's just adding the space. Okay, that makes more sense. >> But it is removing the hyphen there. >> Yeah, I'm fine with that. It's just I thought they were putting an underscore

063and I'm like what? Why are we >> these these mark changes are a little tricky to to read. Yeah, >> it's identical. And in the next section where it says classroom and schoolwide and then number one they have the same thing next to age and culturally. So >> okay so we're all good there. >> Yep, we're good. >> Great. >> All right. And we had some questions to administration that have been answered. Any Heather, do you want to expand on any of that or you're good? >> We added some of them. Heather, I was still collecting it, but there there's some of the examples of professional development that's occurring in the schools. >> Um Okay. Yep. I just was curious what we had going on. So I think what you have here is great. Thank

064you. >> Thank you. >> Awesome. Any further discussion? Okay. Uh decisions approved as presented. Moving on to 6100 using animals in the education program. Um I think we had one question out to the administration that was answered. Any >> I I asked this question not because I was really curious how many pets we had in the district, but um I was curious if we do have them. It's very interesting to know there's a potentially a tortoise and a turtle, but if we do have them, how do we ensure that the policy where we have like adequate care and how do how do the district or sorry the building level levels manage that? >> Yeah. So, typically they're under the care of a specific teacher and so that the building administration would work with that teacher

065or staff member on it. Is there an approval process for this where they that this these expectations get communicated before like some sort of approval or >> Yeah, I mean the it's through the building administration that it goes through. >> Yep. >> I don't know for sure. I thought you were going to ask me the difference between the turtle and the tortoise and I've never known that but I thought it was interesting they both gave me a different word. >> Well, tortoises and are actually turtles. Um, they're all classified under the turtle. >> Okay. >> Scientific name, I guess. Whatever that is. Right now, it escapes me. But tortoises don't like water typically. I have a tortoise. That's why. >> Thank you. I appreciate it. I know that. >> It's kind of a shell game,

066Jason. >> All right. All right. Any further discussion? Okay. Okay. Decision approved as presented. Moving on to 61 145 migrant students. I think we had one question the administration that was answered. Uh any further discussion? Okay, we're good. Then there's a decision approved as presented. Um the moving on to a policy 6 we're at the halfway mark which is a nice blue line. So uh 6.170 title one programs. Uh we had some uh for formatting changes to remove the I think parentheses district plan seemed duplicative. Yeah, the wording in those sentences just sounded like it was like repeating the same word twice, like really close. It just could be me being weird about it, but like it seemed like it was redundant. I would agree. It seems that the district level parent and family engagement

067plan parentheses district plan, right? >> Yeah. >> You've already said it's a district level parent and >> yeah, that was just where I was confused about that. >> But then the next sentence says this district plan. So >> I think the first time it's defining what district plan is and then they shortened it to just say >> is this it's like using an acronym before and then defining it and then cutting it short the next time >> or like will for ever be known as district plan in the rest of the language. Okay, >> which it goes on to it refers district plan where they like they've red line compact they remove that and added district plan. Then if you notice the next section they have the parentheses school plan for the school level. So

068>> okay >> so all right any further you good? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So then we had a couple questions off to the administration that have been answered. Actually, two people had very close to the same question, so I just merged them under one. Um, any further discussion? >> No, just >> we're good. Okay, then approved for no further discussion. Approved as presented. Thank you. >> Okay, moving on to policy 61 180 extended instructional programs. Uh, everyone said accept changes presented. Any further discussion? All right, knock that one off fast. Okay, moving on to policy 720, harassment of students prohibited. Um, again, the the we'll change the name on July 1st for the non-discrimination coordinator and title for nine. Um, any further discussion? Okay, we'll approved as uh presented. Moving on to policy 7 col

06950. School administration student transfers to the and from non-district schools. We everyone said accept changes presented. Any discussion? All right. Moving right along. Again, let me know if I'm going if I need to put on the brakes a little bit. Moving on to policy 7100, health, eye, and dental examination, immunizations, exclusion of students. Generally, everything except changes presented. We've had a couple questions that the administration has answered. Any further discussion for those? >> Oh, I'm still working on answers for those. I apologize. I didn't get a chance to to get to the um school health staff yet, but I will. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. So, we can approve as presented and we administration will work on continue to work on the answers. Okay. Policy 7 col 185 teen dating violence prohibited. Um, I

070think we had one question for discussion if we should remove teen from the the language in the in the title. I think K2, you had thoughts around that. >> Yeah, just dating violence. Um, I know it calls out the age group of 13 through 19 in there. We they start dating younger than 13 and unfortunately some of those scenarios can occur younger than 13. Um, and there's we don't have anything that covers 12 and under. And while rare, it's not impossible. So, I would say I had the exact same thought reading this and I think I feel like we talked about this briefly last year during one of our policy marathons. Um, and that's why I asked the question about if there was a student who was experiencing dating violence and they were 12, for

071example. And it feels like this policy is a legal requirement specifically for teen dating violence. But the policy essentially runs through all of the other policies that would be applied. And that is how students of other ages, whether that be 12, 11, would that's how the situation would be handled. we would still follow this policy. Cor >> correct. Absolutely. So if there was an incident that occurred with a student outside of that age group, we would still follow through. There would still be the same um care taken in the situation. But I I would I would be hesitant to like take out the word team because I think it's very tightly uh connected to larger school policy and school code. So, I think we would just want to make sure that we're in line with

072what the law is knowing that we certainly would uh again take care for any situation that is beyond that. >> I just I just want to make sure I just I do remember when I was reading this I'm like I thought we talked about this. I just things happen at 12 and under and just want to make sure. >> Absolutely. Again, I'm I want to be clear. Yeah. if if anything happened, we'd want to make sure and account for that and follow up on that situation. Um, and again, I I can certainly ask and just make sure and and be clear if that's something that the board is interested in changing the title of it. Just always get a little concerned to get out of step with, you know, some of the main key points

073of of the policy, but certainly we can look into it. Like if we had it as student dating violence prohibited and remove the age range, everything else stays the same. Would that like still carry the same spirit? >> I'd almost want to check with the legal >> I'd want to make sure. I don't want to necessarily say one way or the other. I'm not It very well could, but I would definitely want to check with our legal >> representation. I think I'm remembering um there's a module that educators complete on this. um very proud right now that I'm remembering that it is a specific protected category >> and so that's why they call out the teen dating violence instead of just dating violence. So I would want to check also with the legal for that

074reason. Okay. >> And I am very proud that I remembered my module. >> Your professional development person would be very proud of you. >> All right. So in general as presented by the administration will reach out or research the use of the word teen background there. Excellent. Okay. Any further discussion? Okay. Moving on to policy 72 240 counter code for participants in extracurricular activities. Uh I think we generally had everyone accept changes presented but administration has indicated they're still working on confirming a question from you Kate on that. I'm I'm almost certain that occurs. I just didn't want to speak without getting a chance to talk with uh Tom today. >> Okay. So, you'll come back with answers reading in second reading. Uh pol any further discussion if not we'll move on to 7260 exemption

075from physical education. Generally, we had everyone say accept changes presented. We had a couple questions to administration. I think they've addressed one, but I think Kate I didn't see an an answer to Kate's question. Oh, sorry. And I I um just it this is just to I just want to make sure I was reading this correctly. It was to this is just for temporarily you're out of gym class for a few days. Not the one we discussed at length. I think it was two years ago where you're out where you don't enroll in gym for the whole semester. Great. >> Correct. That's substitution. Yeah. The language is a little a lot of times it's used interchangeably, but what you're referring to second there is called substitution for P as opposed to exemption. Yep. >> Perfect.

076All right. Thank you. >> And that is cross referred in the reference. >> Okay, that's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure I was following correctly. >> Great. All right. Any further discussion? Not approved. We'll approved as presented. Uh policy 7 clone 300 excurator athletics. I think we pretty much everyone said accept changes presented. Any discussion? Okay, we'll disc decision approved as presented. Policy 7.310 restrictions on publications elementary schools. Um for small formatting change with the space between media and the parenthesis and um any further discussion. Okay. Accept changes as presented plus the suggested formatting change policy parent organizations and booster clubs. I think we had one question to the administration from Craig. >> Yeah. I just wanted I was wondering why that changed because I thought district was a more appropriate

077word, but I imagine there's a sense of backtory. >> That's what I'm not sure about. I'm going to need to look into this one. So approve as presented but administration will you'll kind of research what that background is. Excellent. Okay. Moving on to the review and monitoring section policy 7220 bus conduct. Um I think everyone said accept changes presented. There's some questions administration that have been answered in the document. Any further discussion? Um, I just have a quick thing in that my question about um I don't know exactly how I worded my question. Hold on. >> How are they >> obligations does this district have to ensure student safety on the bus? I'm curious about I know that we obviously we outsource our transportation and the responsibility for training bus drivers sits with the company

078that employs them. But is there anything that is contractually obligated by the company to train bus drivers on this sort of thing like student conduct or um legally we are accountable for student safety? Like is there anything that that guarantees that anything in this policy could really that we that this policy really is support like supporting the outcomes it's designed to support. at the end of the table. I think he's worked on this a little bit more. >> So, um I don't remember the specifics, but there are um things in terms of training in terms of uh some of the responsibilities. Those are outlined in the bid documents that we um when we did the bid with Westway Coach, there was sections of the bid documents that talked about these things. So, that would kind

079of be the contractual obligations. I don't remember the specifics of everyone. Um but obviously we could certainly share that with you if you're interested. The other thing is um probably more so at the elementary school than any other level. Uh at the beginning of the year we always meet with the drivers. We have a um Jill and the staff over there. We coordinate a meeting with the the drivers and we talk about kind of expectations and um how we want to deal with some of the disobedient children and um some of the behavior issues on the buses. And then also they uh Westway has a form and we work together with them to make sure the form says what we want. But they can write up students when there's and this is at all levels

080but it primarily happens at the junior high and the elementary school level where um it's like a referral form that the drivers can fill out that gets provided to administration and then administration deals with it um accordingly based on disciplinary procedures and things like that. >> Okay. Thank you. Yeah. I don't I don't need to necessarily read the contractual obligations. I was >> I'm sure I'm sure it's riveting, but I I just wanted to I guess I just wanted to ensure that there is some sort of contractual obligation to the provider that we're outsourcing the student safety to that there's training and requirements that happen. >> Yes. And there is absolutely >> Thank you. I I have a a follow-up question bec uh because one of the questions um was how do you report bus

081issues and I think I know I have confusion around this as a parent um and when I look at the who to contact it says to contact the bus driver or the bus company when there's behavior issues or transportation concerns. So, I don't know if that means like the bus is late, right? Like is different from there's a behavioral issue on the bus that I need to and I've just just called the school. But is there like a a preferred pathway when uh a parent or a student has a concern around behavior on the bus? >> Just the school. >> I mean, you gave perfect examples. If where's the bus? It's 15 minutes late. Generally, call the bus company. If somebody said something inappropriate and your child comes home and said, "I can't believe so

082and so said this." That's where you call the school and then we take care of it. >> Student behavior is us, the principal, and bus concerns about the physical bus routes. That's the bus company. >> Any further discussion? Okay. Uh approved as presented. All right. Moving on to policy 7 colon 230 misconduct by students and disabil with with disabilities. Uh already accepted changes presented. If you had one question that the Jason is still working on okay we'll bring that back for a second reading. Any further discussion? Okay. Moving on to 7 col 280 communical and chronic infectious disease. Everyone replied with accept changes presented. So any additional discussion? If not, that concludes our marathon of 27 policies. Congratulations everybody. We did that in a good time. >> In one night. Okay. >> One night. Yeah,

083we did it. >> Okay. Thank you, Dan. Before we move out of policy, I think we had mentioned that um this is the first official policy committee meeting since we looked at it. And Dan, are you interested in remaining as the policy chair? I'm I'm happy to continue, but if somebody else is also interested, has passion around this, I'm also open, but I'm happy to keep it to >> without a ground swell of uh of hands popping up. Uh thank you, Dan, for continuing and actual. Appreciate your working with Jason on that. >> All right, the uh freedom of information requests is our next agenda item. Uh item 7D. Um those are listed in our board information and uh all addressed public comment 7D followup. We had none last month. Uh which brings us to

0847E is our superintendence report. Including in the board packet is a list of items that the principles wanted us to highlight. But going a little bit off script, it's hard to believe we've got 19 days of school left. Um, I think a lot of us are looking forward to summer, but it's really a great time of year for a lot of highlighting of great things that culminate the end of the school year. So, we've got a lot of concerts. Uh, I've seen a lot of you at those. Some of the ones that I really enjoyed because they were new was the one act play. The high school had put that together. That was on April 15th. And so, that was where students actually got to write their own one act. and then other students or

085in some cases was the author got to play do the play if you had a chance to go to that. The other thing I was really proud of is we hosted the IC8 um art portfolios. Um so the entire I think it was the South Gym um had been changed to an art studio and so they actually had some of our students play musical performances. But it was just absolutely amazing to see the amount of talent that a lot of our students and a lot of students in our conference were able to to actually be able to to bring for that incredible event. less exciting I A and ACT but we've done as much as we can to get students prepared and pumped up as much as it's one more assessment. I think we felt

086pretty good though about the process and the coordination on our part and students giving their best shot. One of the things that I'm uh we've been doing it for a few years now but the foundation actually and I don't know if this would be part of the foundation report but we have something called a gaming club. It's relatively new at the junior high. I'd encourage you if you do have the free time to come after school. It's right after school. Um, it's one of those types of clubs. I think the board has talked about finding something for everybody. And I know uh it resonates with me because I was never the athlete. I was never the the smartest kid. But the game club is really something where it brings a group of kids together to

087be able to really be excited, spend time together. When you go to that, I think it's probably around 50 students, but it's it's a variety of 50 students that you wouldn't expect to spend time together. And as much as there's people supervising there, both parents, but also our our club sponsors, the kids just take turns. And so the foundation recognized that and put $2,000 towards actually improving uh the amount of things that we're offering. So really excited about that. Um I could talk about this during vision 202, but I'll talk about it now. I think we uh wanted to lean in this year. They're both high schools. It gave Mr. Martzoff a chance to get to know the students the first year. And so during the school improvement plans, he talked about meeting a large

088number of students and getting their feedback and we shared the feedback we got, but now we're focusing on the elementary. So we had a chance to meet last week with kindergarten and first grade. There was 12 kindergarteners. Later it was 12 first graders today. Dr. Shriber and I and Jenna had a chance to meet with um the fifth graders, 12 fifth graders and 12 fourth graders. They were pretty much randomly selected, but um just their insight was really interesting. They talked about things as simple as uh wouldn't it be nice to have more recess which you're like okay let me write that down but um just talking about um how they felt things we can do to improve and how they really felt about the curriculum a lot of time was spent today that I

089didn't expect just talking about um it would be great if we had more time in science we just don't have enough of that and really wanting to carve if possible more time out for that talking about our eel program my views and that, you know, there's just so much redundancy and it just feels like we're just they even use the word challenged and that um you know, I think we need to look at our curriculum again even though we seem to be scoring more better and better every year in EL um ELA. Um you know, the students had some really good feedback. They talked about teachers that they really enjoyed spending time with and how they felt engaged and challenged and learned uh to other times just feeling like they were just memorizing things. And

090so again, we've met with kindergarten, first grade, uh, fourth and fifth grade, and then we'll meet with second and third next week. But I look forward to before the end of the school year to give a report to you as to the insight from this the people who probably have the best perspective. And so, uh, but I've learned from each of the meetings like with kindergarten, I said, you know, you were superintendent, you could change anything. What would you do? I want a slide to go from the second floor to the first floor. I'm like, great. And so when I met with the groups today, I was like, okay, these are like practical things that we could actually consider. And you know, I gave the example of the kindergarters and everybody laughed. But um just

091really interesting insights about um you know, even things as simple as boy, wouldn't it be nice instead of having in the back uh the soccer field, could we just maybe break it up so that instead of one long one, two that go the other direction so more of us could play? Or just little things like, boy, we all love basketball, but there's only two good ones. We all fight over those same two. Or on the bus rides, you know, there's kids that are doing this and that. what could we do to improve it? So, and again, at this point, I'm kind of rambling, but it was it was really really some great conversations and we're looking forward to be able to share that from the elementary perspective. Um, besides that, um, I've listed a number

092of things we've had in the past and a few things as we move forward, but, uh, it's hard to believe I'm even saying that. I think it's next week we have the academic excellence dinner. So, I think we're just at that time and soon after that we'll have graduation. So, knock on wood, I think we put another year behind us, but a lot of celebrations, a lot of uh positivity for the school year, and we're just looking to land the plane at this point. >> And that concludes my superintendent report. >> Excellent report. Thank you. Item eight on the agenda is our committee reports. 8A is facilities, master planning did not meet. 8B, finance. finance had uh an extended session earlier today where we discussed the uh financial projection and quarterly financial update as well

093as school fees. >> Excellent. Thank you. And 8C policy. >> We also had an extended session tonight too reviewing 27 exciting policies that are in the agenda. >> Terrific. Thank you so much. 8D is vision 202 did not meet. Item nine is our uh board rep reports. Home and school organization did not meet. Um ISB delegate to board. Uh kind of heads up, the joint annual conference registration opens June 1st. We'll be here probably sooner than we all will realize it in the next few weeks as we all wrap up school and with all our kids activities. Uh I haven't seen any dates on the DUP page division meeting. Uh that's in the fall, typically late October. So probably they won't be sending anything out for that, but keep on the lookout for those emails.

094>> Okay. I'll just I just want to add to that we received a letter from Lori Grant, associate executive director of outreach, training, and events from ISB. Uh congratulating us on our board leader recognition achievement. The ISB's board leader recognition program recognizes school board members for the time and effort they devote to learning and leadership activities provided by the association as well as for service to the public education community. Um there are actually um levels of recognition that were established last year in 2025. Established, distinguished, legacy or annual merit. Um this year there's three board members who achieved a the level of established recognition and gets a beautiful pin. Uh Randy Sims and um this one is for Daniel Hilderley and this is one this one is for me. So we can all proudly wear

095these pins. It does say thank you for your commitment to professional development, for all you do on behalf of our Illinois students and um uh all board members who have achieved that level in the past year are also receiving um an umbrella if we strive for the next level of a distinct recognition. So >> could we get that tonight? >> No. No, I don't think so. We are there yet. We in they encourage us to wear our pins to all ISB events. So, I'm pretty sure that's a pearl background and it's it's very nice, but that's nice recognition. So, congratulations to our recipients. Uh, Intergovernmental did not meet. Len did meet on Friday. Uh, reference to one of the activities we talked about with uh unpaid funds and the report is in the board information.

096Ellie Lial Education Foundation. The summary of uh April 8th is in um the board information. Also, two grants were approved this this past month. Sassid uh did not meet. Uh that brings us to agenda topics for future board meetings. I will say we we are still working through uh probably be looking at some more data that will be achieved through the school year. So, we're um still bringing 7180 uh to a future board meeting. We're kind of going to meet this summer and talk about some possibilities for our monitoring and assessment responsibilities. Um, anybody else have anything for future board meeting? Okay, with that I will then entertain a motion to adjourn this close session to discuss a pending litigation settlement and student matters at 9:05 p.m. >> So moved. Second. >> Could we please

097have a roll call? >> Mr. Niggler. >> I >> Mr. Helderly. >> Hi. >> Miss Foster. >> I >> Miss Novousel. >> Hi. >> Miss D. Dominico. >> Hi. >> Miss Sims is an I and Miss Alman. >> Hi. Thank you. We will adjourn to close session at 9:06. Six.
