001categories ineffective zero to 39 points developing 40 to 59 points effective 60 to 84 points highly effective 85 to 100 points next slide please our school-wide goals so I I shared earlier that our school-wide goes it at 20 so we broke it down to two different areas which are really our focused on the math and reading all through this series so mad goal is 10 points and we can go 10 points under the mat goal our goal is 25 of students will improve from minimally prosecution to partially proficient as mentioned by school City mathe summative people's excluding students who did not take both matter somebody being posts it's the same with the the reading goals 25 of students will improve from minimally proficient to personally proficient what you're excited about this year is that um
002from the changes that we have made on the rubric the they added additional column for that so I think it's easier for the teachers to analyze the data when we have um net proficient meaning minimally proficient partially proficient and proficient and highly proficient so it's easier to break them down and see all the different students who can who we can work with and focus on so that we can move them from one level to the next and next slide please so the next two slides are just the the um what do you call that the intervals for all the points that we have for both math and also for reading but the main goal is the 25 of the students will move from one level to the next next slide please oh and then with
003that too yeah oh next slide please thank you um our classroom goals is um 40 points so the first one is our achievement goal so Regular Ad regular education pictures of achievement goals is 20 points and the other 20 points are going to discuss later on so for our features our goal is 50 of students will show 50 Mastery by the end of the school year using multiple measures School City this includes School City share me test um we have a new test I think the Renaissance one um classroom classroom test on three through three essential standards next slide please so our content shows three essential standards in each of their subjects and um we have added that on our report and also this one that's showing is our interval aerobic for the point system
004this is for regular ad next slide please and for exceptional ad we have 20 points and also for self-contained uh 20 points for exceptional and I mean I'm really excited about this one because um we added a new week for our exceptional ad department so for exceptional ads students will demonstrate Proficiency in any of the ELA or math essential standards as mentioned by picture made assessments and feature-weight performance rubric which I just mentioned earlier or 25 growth using a school City report so um I would like to give credit to my team at the secondary when we created our Ruby performance rubric we have now a choice of using that or the School CV that we will just piggyback on on the General Ed teachers so um I think it's an ESS we have when
005we build the skills for our students then we we will be able to measure it better when we have our own performance yeah um and the next slide please will show you this the breakdown of the points but the following slides will show you the the rubric this is the ELA performance rubric so if you will look at that we we use the the we also use the three essential standards for ELA and so if you look at the proficient which is 75 um I'll just explain really briefly on how this works so for minimally proficient you will see that there are four bullet points so the student because at the the resource what we we do is to develop the skills of our students so when they go to General Ed classes they they
006have their equipped with all the different tools to learn what they're being taught in the content so in here in the minimally proficient if a student is able to do the first bullet like the read text completely that will only be 25 so the second one they can do two that will be 50 and independently on the third one three of those bullets they can do then that will be 75 at the grade level tax that's what we're working on and then um next slide please so these are the part of the three essential standards that we get from the ELA it may change next year if you will um if they will have a different essential standards next year next slide please and this is the um performance rubric for our math so um
007because at the high school they have different subjects so they have algebra they have geometry it's really hard to put all those essential standards in there so what we do is that to build their their skills we just use the reason mathematic standards quantitative reasoning skills so it's the same way we have minimally proficient partially proficient proficient and highly proficient the same um way that we're going to measure their performance or skill based on how many items or how many uh how many elements of this they can do independently um so I'll just give an example of the different bullets so for example um the skill that we're measuring is identified information presented in math problems so that is they can use that in algebra geometry and whatever the the different um math subjects that
008they have another one is convert information into mathematical forms and the third one is just the correct math calculations and the last one is use the evidence to explain the answers so if the students are able to do three or four which we usually you know we we want them to achieve at highly proficient these are the skills that we want to see so when they go to General Ed classes algebra math or geometry we want to see all this for elements or components so that we know that they can independently um uh perform in the General ad without our support I said independently so without support so I'm really nervous right here doing great um thank you next slide please so part of our classroom goals is professional Learning Community uh and IAP collaboration
009we know the importance of our teachers participation in our ITP meeting a surgical requirement but I think um for them to be there to really speak out about the progress and performance of our students in their classes it is really um good for the parents to hear to hear that so we included that as our goal um attendance participation and or contributions in PLC and IEP meetings to discuss students current level of performance and establish goals for students as documented on our new PLC media so we have a new PLC minutes of the secondary which we use every time we have EOC every Wednesday um next slide please so this is the rubric and the following slide will be a screenshot of our POC agenda so we have to complete this not only complete but
010you know when we talk about what what the agenda we have for for that day or for that week we have to complete this um this POC minutes that um that we that are assigned to all the content and I think this is really helpful because we are more focused now especially when we added the stretch goals which are also based on the three-year plan for the district um I think it's easier for all of us to move into the same direction levels um next slide please so those are the two classroom [Music] um oh I forgot classroom goals that we have so we have achievement goals for um General Ed and special ed and the next one is our POC divided equally to 2020. and the next one is our evaluation which we put
011at 40 I don't know 40 points [Music] yeah can you go back to the last slide please okay so our evaluation is the same evaluation we've been using for many years so the main one planning and proper preparation domain two classroom environment the main risk instruction and domain for professional responsibilities for many years we it's our evaluation is heavily rated in domain one which is planning and preparation and also instruction so I think that will be the same for this year we just have to change the points for evaluation and then the follow the next slide will be our semester one data and you you you probably have oh this has been discussed to you by our administrator and um this is the math data so the first in each of those uh picture you
012will see the pinfos and then our Benchmark in the uh fall and then next slide please will be Ela so it's the same way um we have rpn post and then our Benchmark for the first one if you well personally I really love that we have a new caller for for our for our graph and you you can really see the the uh changes in the progress that they're making um while doing all these numbers in here um I'm I'm beginning to appreciate because I don't really do a lot of this and my content but seeing the movement from you know from this level to the next um I really appreciate our teachers more than ever I don't know next slide please so um the classroom side fund these are from I I took this
013from from our um what do you call that this touch it's time to thank you Mr Diaz so I just took that because these are the things that we have we come up together and agreed all so we have number number one you can set the bottom we have C point one two three nine ten and actually the next one is um 11 so 6 out of 12 uh we agreed on that so we have this school district performance or school performance second one is individual teacher perform performance um measures of academic progress we have that on our goal and then um the input of t-shirts and administrators approve all of the whole faculty and then number 10 oh that's the one in the last one is regular evaluation for effectiveness so that those are
014the six uh elements that that we were able to to fulfill in this um next slide please so another look at the points so School wide goes 20 points classroom goals 40 points evaluation 40 points what we don't really see in in our um fit part is the qualitative data um this is where you know we we know for a fact that our teachers are committed to the profession our teachers are committed to our students learning and also we have the drive we have the dedication um and we have collected qualities that make us Educators and mentors of Our Lives um next slide please that's all thank you thank you Mr Pizza um this is a public hearing sir if there are any questions from the public you're welcome anything from the foreign plan um
015she has uh diligently gone back and forth and collaborated with the teachers and and ensure that they have um aligned the goals in in more ways than one so I want to give her a big shout out for also being a leader and representing everyone at the secondary and stepping and then forwarding presenting on their behalf I'm very proud of you thank you bird cell um if there's no other questions or anything we can the public hearing Miss Sylvia Hendricks moves to adjourn the meetings there a second Miss Elementary split all those in favor of the motions yes Sophie Hendrix [Music] alrighty that'll conclude the public hearing for this evening foreign we're okay all right [Music] okay like um again we'll go ahead and call tonight's meeting go regular governing board meeting to order today's
016Tuesday February 14 2023 I'll go ahead and turn over the time now to Mr Paul actually before I do that I did want to take a quick moment um especially to address uh some guests that I invited as a board president and especially on behalf of the board members on behalf of the school district um I know that in essence of trying to make sure that we're 100 supportive and behind much of our student athletes and the services we're providing as a school district I wanted to take a quick moment and acknowledge and address Mr Joseph Meese here along with the [Applause] along with the barbecue B High School lady Warriors for their efforts um that they took part and I was able to witness uh the amazing abilities um at this time I'll go
017ahead and have Mr sabalik and that roll call and then I lectured him to uh assist us in Sharing The Pledge of Allegiance for this evening um and we'll go from there all those projects one point here Stevens yeah Sylvie Hendricks and Hike it that would make grease with you thank you coach peace here with you if you want to take a moment and introduce anyone or say any words and then you'll lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance we'd appreciate it yes thank you president and interim I brought it along with the lover actually is is to play at the next level so we're kind of like talking about where did she want to go uh don't you want to play stories definitely one of my responsibility to make uh connections with those coaches
018that are out there um Jordan is a senior this year she's been with us for four years Middle School basketball should you know we'll go to middle school and um you know the pandemic during the pandemic time um you know it was one of the hardest moments for us out here on the nation because everything was shut down our facilities were shut down you know and um the first round uh for the United States and then we went on to play against [Music] thank you um the first time we lost by eight points the second time you met up with him we lost like 10 points and 57 to 47 and I don't want to talk about the third game to me it was kind of somewhat embarrassing because I felt like we weren't really
019I could be prepared for that conversation that made and uh this is where the community comes from where it's coming up is um as a coach I believe in success and I believe that we have to show at least 90 percent for better um after 36 years I can tell you that you have to be on your job in order to be successful yeah so um and that's one of those areas so I do want to thank you uh foreign [Music] and when I say about him [Music] okay but I'm saying that they are going to actually get in there and meet in half if they don't then uh it's okay it's okay so uh they're there right now at the gym and they're probably going to be there until eight o'clock [Music] else careful
020about your appointments um [Laughter] [Music] the Thursday morning about 6 a.m they'll be in the gym and um they're going to buy some fine young years a couple of graduates for having some of the greatest Runners on here so that's what they're doing please get out and support them if you can't go to that website log on watch the game too okay so with that said over to Jordan Ramona thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] wow come on bro yeah thank you good job and uh coach meets Jordan if you'll please lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance this evening if you'll understand [Music] come on okay the United States of America thank you so much go Warriors you guys have done very great so much that's fine I just like to say um as part
021of my report I did make a statement to all the coaches assistants parents and all supporters thank you for everything you do for the um student athletes from making sure they're on top of their studies going to bed early get up early late night drives from games motivational talks encouragement and those never-ending drills our students are successful successful because of you so I just wanted to um say thank you to the coach and then also um I know Jordan doesn't know me but I have been conversations conversating with her mom for a few years now on her abilities and this was when she and it's really emotional for me because you're a senior now and you're leaving you're going to get better at what you're doing and even though you're amazing now it's gonna get
022better but I see you grow from when you were a freshman and I talked to your mom and I told her man you gotta keep encouraging her because she has it she has what it takes to to make it she just needs that continued encouragement so like I said I know you don't know me and I've never talked to you but I know your mom knows how I feel about you and I just when I see you play and she send me clips I just think you're just an amazing individual with so much talent and you're not afraid to drive that ball and that's what I love the best man you know that that court is yours when you decide that it's yours you make those decisions you make those choices and you run with
023it and that's what I love about watching you play so I really want to see you continue um going to the next level like you want to we're we're here this one to support you and it's just amazing for me to see you play thank you so much [Applause] any other comments from the board Miss Ella yeah um I just want to thank all of you for being here and and we're able to see see you here and uh I didn't attend uh most of the games but I I did watch the game and um Saint David and also here in sales and and you really played good at that here in um South that was a good game and um and I years back I was at the basketball game and every game because
024my my children my grandkids were all all played ball and also that I love basketball I myself played basketball in high school and I just want to thank you and you um the new ones coming up um the Cherry Cherry cheered on like a student song and uh or a plan to attend most of the games now I think everything just kind of died down for me when the pandemic you know and and also I just wanted to congratulate Mr Meeks well being the code for I don't know how many years he's been coaching but I appreciate these um keeping our students alive and I know you have to keep up with your grades in order to to be um uh and sports so that's a big plus for knowing that you have happened during
025your schoolwork thank you so much Sylvia yeah I just wanted to congratulate all of you and I'd like to thank the coaches and of course your families and your friends and your and the community for for uh supporting you that's a big thing I mean I think that's what we all need is support and I think that with what you're looking at for your future continue doing that you can do it I think like everybody that has gone before you I think a lot of them you know have gone on and maybe not completed what they've but they it's a challenge and I and I and I challenge you to do that and I challenge you to continue and and be successful so again congratulations to all of you [Applause] is that I want to
026give a shout out to both all the coaches uh Mr meese your son Nolan and Melvin and Drew without them these students um wouldn't be where they're at they actually provide opportunities for students to thrive and grow and you can see that I remember watching um watching you play when you were little and seeing you grow into a young woman and I wish you all the best of luck in your next adventure and everyone else is moving forward good job apologize Ben I kind of hijacked the meeting because I do feel like this is absolutely important for us to be able to celebrate and show you that there is true support behind you from the community from this standpoint from anything that we're able to do in the community our day jobs I know that
027we've really taken a strong stance and being able to say that the celebrations need to be across the board um covet did take a lot of wind out of us as a people and so as much and where we can influence this type of I don't know heart love whatever you want to call it it's so important to do so continue to do great things I've known your mother I can't believe that you're a senior because I know when you were remember when you were born but um here or there I think that that's that's the beauty of life it's it flies by and you really taking advantage of a lot of things and I'm really really proud of all of our of all of our students for for taking life by the horns and
028doing what you need to do because you know for for instance that we can come together and recognize those achievements we should and I really want this to continue um so that is the Pledge I think from here on forward as we continue to celebrate thank you all right [Music] letter D's our routine business number one's approval of the February 14 2023 board meeting agenda I wanted to foreign agenda item uh five I like to pull it out of the content agenda um only because we I have to what do you call it recuse yourself and I think my cell phone Anna and I have to have the items motion there's a there's a recommendation we'll call it a motion to amend the agenda under consent letter i number five will be new action item

052mental health program student presenters we're working on that um attend school board meeting monthly [Music] state capitol visit asba Arabic Cassie day sorry uh School play a house basketball tournament district-wide uh ICA house mural on campus community service for very third and fourth quarter Town Hall celebration reception plans to make questions accessible to everyone at non-binary restroom and a drug prevention awareness campus-wide um [Applause] down good evening everyone my name is Sequoia Ramon um I am a senior at the barbecue me High School to make sure yeah is it on YouTube foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] what happened [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] okay um as always introducing myself my new Sequoia Ramon I am a senior at
053the barbecue high school and I uh I am also the senior class secretary and at this moment I will be asking several questions you are all free to answer um but if you will keep your answers under a minute due to time um first question being what changes would you hope to see at the high school I think one of the things that we we contemplate here is um is um attendance we would like to see uh the schools all schools we would like to see the schools all schools uh be 90 above and above and a hundred percent would be fantastic but you know anytime anywhere between 90 and 100 percent so that's one of the things that we are always contemplating on you know trying to get students to understand that you know
054their education is important and they do have to be there every day I love the question I think hope is a very very beautiful word um so I I think in general what I've seen thus far it's just that you guys maintain you know the current atmosphere or environment that I feel like is brewing and then grow from it I think that's a major thing that I hope to see um as far as changing it's it's definitely an experience to be able to see where especially in this position four years ago it was a little bit different to now um I think unless it's genuinely all the Hope and Dreams that I think we have as a governing board so just that will be what I would say so much thank you one minute [Laughter]
055one minute um what I would like to uh what I would like to see is is that you you all continue to motivate each other and support each other and help each other when you you see something um um isn't going right and you know you can help and jump in and help that for me is really something but also I would like to see um your school that you take charge of your school meaning there are so many of you that are creative the the murals look at the murals to say that your school how you guys made the um the little um areas to rest in I think that is so cool I mean you just I think for you guys for you to understand it's your school and you have the stucco
056you have the ability to make those changes and to motivate your peers so that's what I want to see is Ella [Music] I also I always I'm trying to um at our meeting that we talk about attendance all the time it's very important that you attend school every day um because you can use that when you go to work you need to be on time at work and you need to be there all the time school is very important and that um when you miss a day of school you lose a day of learning and I was instilled that in my kitchen and so that's where I'm coming from and and um I mean to me um their their changes going on now that um that you are students are very active I like to
057see that and see all that um interaction with your school your classmates and um so just like to have that um keep it up so thank you Miss Anna the question there 100 minute response for them um I just love the energy I when I went through the PowerPoint and seeing all the different things that you had in place I want to shout out to your teacher for helping you with some of those things also just moving forward and trying to implement more um activity to get students involved and bring up the school spirit uh I think that's Association but thank you for all your hard work okay next is our next slide give me high school if so what did Phil was lacking at the high school that is still needing them you can
058start us off uh I kind of attended off and on but um I would have to say more classes that are college prepared ready classes I think those are things that you could work on um some of the more courses as far as like um Hands-On experienced classes or courses that could be taken um opportunities to do like internships are working with their Community I think those are huge things that could be implemented Missouri did I attend BHS I definitely did and I actually this is going to tell you how old I am I graduated in 1973. from Bobby Curie high school and that's when Bob recovery high school was over there and so um what I what do you feel was lacking at school that is still needed well you know I've seen a
059lot of evolve everything evolved because when I attended barbecue high school and graduated I went to a year of college actually then raised my family then I went back to college but in the meantime I also worked for a barbecue reunified school district for 26 years so I seen that everything that we have done here at barbecue at Bob at the whole school district and the changes that we've done and I think that where we're at now I am so happy and so excited that you all are are where you guys are at now and that you're you're looking to the Future and hoping to uh I hope I wish you the best in in your success in you in succeeding in whatever it is that you want to do and I think that we
060continue I would like to see like the um uh College you know that it was really exciting when it was College and Career Readiness and I think we still need to continue doing that so because you know both Anna and I work at at the SEC at the college level and we want to see you there and we want to see you about and go on to college you know I know at college is it for everybody but you know I think that there's other areas that that you could explore and other students can explore foreign I think that's been pretty public that I that I also dropped out of BHS I think that there was always a lack of things that I feel like we are seeing now that I'm really very proud of
061what you guys are doing stepping up into those roles of leadership because I think that there's always a need for a sense of belonging which we're trying to do now as a board um by you guys supporting the house the the bubble key system is is I think a very good step in the sense of trying to bridge those things that I feel like we're missing at the time um I had a group of friends but I didn't always have the best group of friends and that's the reason why I dropped out but don't ever let anyone actually try to belittle you for that I've been belittle as much as I as much as much as I've achieved I still got my GED it just didn't do it through high school but I loved my
062experiences I've learned from my life and you all will continue to do that as you as you move through leadership any kind of role that you take so continue to do that just to kind of piggyback off of what this event was stating about her response earlier I think that to be able to I think the emphasis just really needs to be in the sense of who we are as people and I love that we're taking that rap now um and really achieving as a community as opposed to this individualism that we've kind of see now so that's my response I really appreciate the question thank you events um I only attended um Bobby Cambridge High School for one semester um so I wasn't I'm not really sure what was offered but I know now
063that I would like to see uh a lot more dual enrollment from students at the high school so that you know going on to uh get those credits and um being a tocc is just right down the road and so you could graduate with your high school diploma and have a degree if you started the um the dual enrollment um like say your freshman year but that's something that you guys could do to um to help your peers uh those of you that are the upperclassmen to encourage the younger ones to already start looking at dual enrollment Miss Ellen uh I excuse me I didn't go to school here but um my I have two girls and gradually can you pull the mic up a little bit here in high school and and I have
064uh seven grandchildren that graduated from there and I have great grandchildren going to school so um um it really has grown up when I moved here this had the school over here at the elementary and later on this was built and uh but there was no High School the kids going through that and move up that's hard to finally became a high school so um that's um I am um trying to get in involved with a lot um I'm just now really getting started like visiting the classroom so um I hope um and um get more into it and I just encourage other students to to like their school thank you thank you uh Aaron I think there's another what are your thoughts on the RCA houses I love the idea it was a great
065opportunity for us when we went to RCA and learning about what to implement it you can definitely see progress and change that's happening with students because of going to RCA I had the opportunity to go visit the intermediate school and I was blown away by the interaction that they had and the excitement that teachers had and the love of learning that students shared and while they were there um and I I was telling the group when I went to go do the visit that you're gonna see all those students who are currently in middle school and primary move up and have that and move with them to the high school and they're going to have this enthusiasm of loving to learn so I I like it I really appreciate that we have the opportunity to
066attend and not only did we but also us students so that you can see um I think it's a great concept and I think it adds to your learning I think it it makes you want to learn it because you're having fun doing it um it it I I enjoy watching everybody jump or I can't like jump around and you know like I used to but it's exciting to see all the kids jumping around and Reuben jumping around and and uh dancing you know I love dancing I used to get dance pretty good but I don't think I can do it anymore but I love watching people dance and and I think that's exciting so I think it's a great um addition to our school district I kind of led into this but I really
067truly do appreciate that Mr Diaz is out in the community now advocating for this to be sort of a communal effort because it really does provide for a sense of leadership and resp and and um connectivity even belonging for some kids and some and some parents that actually probably need some some um motivation to get involved and I think we've always trying to look at different ways to get everyone involved in education telling you to be at school is one thing but if we don't get your parents to also agree that you should be at school then we're not going to succeed as much as everyone wants everybody to be at school reality is there's there's not much motivation for school and that's not fair to say that's your job your responsibility so I really
068really like that we're thinking outside of the box in the sense of trying to invite other entities outside of the school to participate in the bubble key or the RCA houses because it also lets you guys see someone out there cares and someone else wants to see you succeed so that's what my thoughts are so thank you um I guess my thoughts on the RCA houses are it helps you feel a belonging to those that are in your house your families or you know and um when you think about like the um like say my house is altruismo and that's the house of givers but you know it um it kind of gives you a sense of belonging and and and you look at those qualities and those individuals that come from the different houses
069like I know Reuben with the hearts all the time that's so cool so he's he's shouting out there that's his house um but I I what I really think and and I was really grateful for you guys to have the opportunity to go to RCA that's what I really really makes me inspired because now you guys see what could be at the school how you could make those changes and and and how uh motivating it is for teachers to be motivated to teach you so you guys see that too now not only us as board members but but you guys are students to see that there can be a difference in in learning um fun um so I really I really like the thoughts of the houses so I I too support um uh RCA
070and I think it's um it's motivating our children um in the classroom you know they love to go to school but because my granddaughter likes to likes to go and do things and exercise and and that I also saw that when we did a walk through and how the students are are really using it you know when um they um jump on the chair and when doing the question answer and I like that and um so I should I fully support this thank you Mr Beats what was your reason for joining the school board and do you feel that you have made a difference one minute [Laughter] Jon parent committee and we kept hearing concerns from teachers about the way schools um things are happening in the school district and then concerns from students and
071so I wanted I want to change and a lot of it was making changes thinking I can come in and change everything but reality is we do have rules and so it was a Learning lesson of coming in and understanding There are rules that are in place but I do feel that we've made a difference we have made some changes and have been my third year my third year and I'm still learning I feel like if I think that first year it was definitely a learning curve and understanding the process then also just that's off to what superintendent does and also the principals and anybody who's running the school and understanding those systems that are in place I think my reason for joining the school board is I I love education I've been in education
072put over 50 years now and so I just I mean from going to school to working for the school district to um working for another school district and then also um being on the school board I am I this is my 20th year on the school board and so when I got on the school board at that time there was a recall on some of the board members that the year that I I got on in 2002 I think and um so I was asked to run or to put my name in and I I did and plus that I had children and grandchildren also going to school for the school district and and all the students that are attending the school district and hoping because I know that they all can they all have
073they all the calf the capability of being successful in whatever it is that they want to do and I wanted them to have that opportunity to be able to Express and and learn like everybody else throughout the country throughout the state throughout the United States and throughout did the world so you all have that capability and I just want to make sure that we the school district were giving you that opportunity majority of the reasoning I know for me definitely was my experiences um and the experiences that I could see from the outside uh as Anna has stated there's there's a real difference when you get on this side of the table um it's a lot of a learning a learning a learning curve by what I really do appreciate is the ability to be
074able to work with these fine individuals at this table and everything that they bring to it um majority of what I feel like is important especially for when we're looking at how do we achieve or put together something irregardless of all of the statues and all the laws and everything else that we have to abide by that that's that's perfect for us as a people um the Don Autumn Nation deserves education for its own Autumn and that's that's genuinely been The Stance I believe of this board and and more souls now since we've been here so I feel like that difference has definitely been very evident pushing to change the names of the schools pushing to include um a lot of that culture Heritage and going to ask the nation for for service I mean
075for assistance with putting that stuff into place that takes a lot of effort on the side of our support but also the work of all of these people in here that are that do know they have our support so I really really do genuinely enjoy being able to sit here uh come from where I was into you know a position that actually does have an impact on not only the community but but on yourselves as you go through the school system I wish you know someone had had that same insight as I was moving through the entire system myself so we're not we're not 100 good at it obviously there's always going to be deficiencies or things that are that are not the best but I think that we are generally doing are putting our
076best foot forward respect um the reason why during the school board was because I was on the Johnson O'Malley picture at the same time Anna Marie was on and I was encouraged to run for the school board because um there was a sense of um just like Anna Marie mentioned there was things going on in the school that uh people were not understanding and and because uh I was I guess people saw me as um being able to talk um loud I guess [Laughter] and and not be shy about saying what I needed to or you know bringing up things that needed to be shared so that was one of the reasons was that encouragement but I also asked my own children if that's what they thought I should do and they all encouraged me
077um to join the school board um you know and I think that um I I feel that I've made a difference um and I know we've made mistakes as a school board we've um and we have to um for this is my first um second term so the first four years um it was that learning just like Anna Marie said learning that there are rules and we have to abide by those as a school board but also um the feeling um for me I wanted to make sure that our um our schools are giving the education to the students that they need to be successful when they leave the school that for me was really important um and I I had I have six children uh for our graduates and two are still in school
078um so that really is that really is for me something is to make sure that when our when our seniors graduate that they have the potential and the you know the the strategies you know everything to make sure that wherever they go whether it's in the workforce or higher education that they know that they're supposed to be there that they feel they've made it that for me is important so um I um it was funny because um last night we went and ate and I got this um little thing here from the uh fortune cookie and it said silence the critic within I'm like I don't think this is supposed to be mine I think it belongs to one of you but like that it's it's really difficult to be in this position but I'm
079so glad that I am um and I do feel that I've made a difference [Music] quickly I I work for the school district for 15 years and I saw a lot of things going on and um before that I worked for an appearance and then Affairs for 25 years and I retired from there and started working here at school and um well from the beginning I had a good it was a good superintendent I really I worked under him for several years and during that time you know that he did he did some fantastic things the uh he's the one that got that um the gym the two gym the two gym uh the two geminism uh there at the high school and then later on the Fine Arts building and the feel and um
080that and he would then he was going to work on the swimming pool but that that we go through and then the housing went some housing there at the high school but he but he went and got hurt and had to retire and um the reason why I wanted to run was the one of the superintendent wasn't treating our employees the way the employees should be treated so I know there were a lot of teachers um that were let go and some were good teachers and but now that was my reason for running for school board so and um and I've been on there since 2014 I think so um that's my reason for going and for being in the school board thank you there is one more question um but I'm gonna ask only
081one board member to represent to answer the last question so we can also celebrate you like us to take back to our student body Advanced I nominate you I guess what I would like for the student body to know is that you have everything that you need to be successful everything you need to be successful you carry that with you um tell all the students that you know take care of themselves take care of their families and take care of those that take care of them because they want to see you succeed too they and and a lot of those people that want to see you succeed are sitting in this room right now and your teachers and sometimes we forget to tell them thank you thank you for um pushing me that little bit
082thank you for helping me and and it gets easier all the time and one of the things that really um we have to really um work at is saying you're welcome you're welcome because a lot of times we don't we don't feel that we've done whatever and by saying that you're welcome it's just acknowledging that you know that you've done good so those are some of the things that are going to help you be successful remember where you came from remember all the work that you put into and you can you can also go back into your family um Traditions culture history about how they really worked hard to get somebody worked hard to get you here where you are today and I'm talking about Generations in your family they want it there because of
083their hard work you're here being successful so it's not just now it's because of years and years and generations of people that want to see you succeed and and to know that you are love that's one of the most important things is that your love and people care about you and people want to see you be successful and you have to put in that work to not only are your teachers there for you to give you instruction and to help you but you have to also put in that work and those two combinations is going to get you anywhere and read read read and laugh and have fun and love thank you [Applause] good evening audience and board members my name is Uriah Lewis and I am from barbecue redistrict I am part of the
084student council and I am the freshman class president one of the things that we are planning that is in the planning stages is to have at the end of the a celebration at the end of the year to celebrate the end of the school year is a basketball tournament between all the house colors against uh we are planning it it's still in the planning stages but we plan to have everybody to come out and attend it to support their house colors and support every support us there will also be house color activities there and it will also be available from the primary and the intermediate and into adults to play there would be also be a different category for the adults to play cool [Applause] and um board members we will like it that if

087always tell everybody go to your community meetings go to your district meetings all of that stuff is important it all impacts you somehow so I really appreciate the challenge of of getting us to your campus I definitely want to take that opportunity in the end um accept that invitation um and I hope the rest of the board members will will either join me or make some time on their their schedules to do so as well um you guys are doing it you guys are leaders I've said this to every any any student or any individual that I've come across now is you're not Future Leaders you're leaders now you are leaders and you are showing exactly you know everyone else that's watching you little brothers little sisters nephews everyone coming up in the community sees
088when you do and copies what you do as the same same as it goes for when you're doing bad things um so keep it up and I really appreciate that that you guys came tonight are there any other last words from the board 40 no I just had a question did you want us all there on a specific day or just to pick a day because we're all gonna be there actually action oh stick so that's one of the rules that we we've learned rules aside don't don't don't hold it we'll link that we'll make that notice if you want us out there that's fine perfect okay um I also want to just thank Miss Brewster for everything that she's doing for the sticker class um all the support that they're getting not only as
089uh the circle but um on on uh personal levels I know that a lot of the students um uh look to you for um advice and and support and you know that really means a lot so thank you for everything that you're doing for all of our students I also want to say thank you I think you're doing a wonderful job also getting students to get exposed to college or different opportunities um and taking them through different field trips my son has attended some of those things and his friends and they all share like how it's been a wonderful opportunity for them so thank you for all your hard work anything myself thank you for coming thank you guys so much for your most welcome anytime please come back [Applause] [Music] to acknowledge [Music] getting
090uh board members president buendia intern superintendent Mr Diaz um we have two schools uh with several staff members that were presented with the him.org uh it is based in regards to enrollment norms and processes and streamlined uh systems that we created together in collaboration with principal Fox and principals to them uh through this basis we're able to do a more smoother transition from students coming in from Bobby Curie High School to Indian Oasis High School and through those processes we're able to streamline the enrollment and close down any gaps that we had so it was extraordinary collaborations and a lot of different ends that we needed to meet so just wanted to congratulate them and the staff members are are mentioned on on the sections so this one thank you and thank you for the
091nominees and I want to continue to encourage collectors and principles uh the award is for anyone in the community so we welcome and we encourage you to dominate and help us to help you celebrate our members of the staff as well as a community like Junior president thank you so much yes I definitely do want to say take the opportunity to acknowledge and make those references when it comes to celebrating um your fellow members or the members in the community or anyone that you're seeing making an impact I definitely definitely do appreciate all of the efforts and support that are being provided um I know Mr Martinez has pretty much been pretty consistent in providing those so thank you Mr Martinez for for noticing and taking making that acknowledgment because that's important too so um

097I hope you've had the opportunity to review it I do want to highlight if you go down not sure okay um we always see a lot of the good stuff that's happening but there are things that happen behind the scenes that we really don't share but I do want to acknowledge that you know we we discussed our stretch goals and um we have increased our attendance which is really good [Applause] but a lot of these things that our little ones deal with every day is things that they can't deal with on their own um a lot of our kids don't have that support that they need to be successful in school and I just want to make a comment on that is it's not an excuse but you know we had an issue a situation
098this past month um with a student who was infested with lice she didn't have the support at home but we found out there were other things happening and we took the time at school to clean her hair to ensure that she could come to school the next day and do what she needed to do and I want to highlight Miss Gordon and Miss Hart for stepping in and supporting us with the things that we needed so that not only the stuff the shoot the stuff the child could be successful but the parent as well so I really want to give them a shout out and I really appreciate you stopping whatever you were doing to come out and help us with that so um I hope you enjoy the highlight video did you want to

108aligning everything that they do in to ensure that we move forward so I want to give him a big shout out not only for what they put together but what they're rolling out if we see the evidence of what they're rolling out so I'm very proud of my principles thank you [Applause] foreign [Music] all your reports to that I really appreciate that you've done that so congratulations and good job okay if that's it we'll go ahead and move on number six is our barbecue Unified School District governing board member reports uh if you don't have a report I think for the sake of time we'll just move but go hit Miss Spence um I have a report so I just um uh the second quarter uh Town Hall celebration on January 12th um by the
109time I got there principal Saddam you are closing the celebration so I'm so sorry I missed that uh basketball senior night on January 19th I was able to be in the stands at aiming to enjoy a game of basketball for both lady Warriors and warriors teams against Saint David crowd was energized and ready to root for our teams I especially like the Warriors section that was set up on the bleachers great to see all the support from the individual players families and the busd administration and staff as well great job Warriors um then The winterboard Retreat on January 21st and 22nd thank you interim uh superintendent Ruben Diaz for organizing the three-year goals for busd a lot of preparation throughout the holidays by the administration is very much appreciated by the board we now have
110a Clear Vision by all on where we want to be and how we are going to get there thank you to all the principals and administrative team who came out to present Primary School visit on January 31st along with principal Enriquez Rubin and Dietrich I attended my first site visit we visited three classrooms all students were enjoying their day I saw many strategies used interact um to interact with students technology choral reading encouraging students to participate in activities to name a few Miss Greasewood and Mr wendia we're also at the site but along with the step principal Valdez and Miss Pablo's group National School counseling week February 6th uh through 10. thank you to all our school counselors for the love and support you have given our students throughout the year Baba kibri accelerated Academy
111site visit on February 9th along with Dietrich and Miss Kinsey we visited Liz Garcia and Miss amento's classrooms our students were engaged in their stating and problem solving many students in the class and the math class showed me their notes which helps when they are stuck on problems in economics some students were working on their vision boards which I thought was a great way to express themselves I loved it others were working on their laptops so one student was researching Rosetta Stone and then so I asked uh what Rosetta Stone was I thought was possibly an activist or like a Rosa Parks I thought that was super cool um as we sat and discussed the visit I explained that I only took note of the glows that day what I really walked away was with
112how important these site visits are as not only does the administration look uh at how well the teachers are doing but also what else would be helpful in helping the teachers continue to be encouraged to grow just listening to the Educators perspectives made me realize how like the anchor charts maximizing time and grouping could also add to students overall learning experience that's my report yeah [Music] are there any other reports from the board members go ahead okay I just want to quickly touch on a couple of things because I think it's important just real quick um the Arizona new Arizona governor did recognize all board members in the month of January with a proclamation which I was proud to attend with the asba delegation that went to to see her she's a very delightful lady
113and so I was really really pleased to be able to be in attendance and and actually um represent the school district on at least on on the side of um Native and Hispanic American uh Indian uh caucus and all of that um in addition to that the in light of the walkthroughs I just wanted to shout out some teachers because I was really Blown Away by our primary campus um Miss James Mr helt Miss Campbell and Miss Cipriano I walked away that day extremely impressed and just very proud of what we've done so far and I know each of you are giving as much of an effort um but to be able to walk in and as Miss Vance has stated understand why it's important uh not only for us to be present and I
114know thank you teachers for for I know they were nervous but they truly just blew me away and I'm really proud that our students are in really great hands um continue to do the work that you're doing um I again I I I left the meeting because I had to quickly but um I couldn't I couldn't I couldn't say much more I think just the classroom management and the ability to to engage uh was just off the charts for me for for what I was able to observe so thank you so much um last thing I know that the AEL wasn't it was um the uh extended extent extension um but what I do want to kind of lean into and I know I've had this conversation and I do also want to commend Mr
115Diaz because we've really kind of taken another a different route on the side of introducing him to all of the outside entities and all of the Partnerships that we can build especially if we're trying to provide housing and teachers and all of those things that we need I'm I'm thoroughly excited to make those connections and build that relationship for him for the district with with all of the entities with the geek Association planning department on automation Healthcare toua um those things happen I think very crucial and have very shown a lot of substantial uh benefit um that we're only going to be able to continue to to grow and engage as far as working with the community local community leaders um but in regards to AEO I know that we had some conversations about what
116we were looking at doing if it hadn't passed um I do want to continue just to kind of encourage the education and sharing of information as we're moving through with transparency for all of our district faculty staff parents students about the very real um I think reality that we have to that we have to come to in essence of dealing with covet dealing with all these pots of funding that were that were kind of handed to us that are depleting or are gone now um understanding that we have to really engage in how are we being effective cost effective and effective in general um we were talking about riffs we were talking about all of these things um I I'm not don't want to be Doom and Gloom but I do want us to be
117realistic on how we're going to approach the next year and financially the next year and how we want to continue to provide education to the students of busd um I had to have had conversations of course with our with our CFO and Mr Diaz um very pointed conversations about the realities of some of the things that we are able to observe as board members on functionality or whatever strategies that we're kind of looking at and ultimately are these being effective or are they not effective or can we uh what are we looking at here if we continue to engage with some of the proposals that are being brought forward um and how do we read out those things that that you know maybe won't or can't be funded um again just to be very open
118and transparent about those are the conversations that that I think we need to continue to have as a board um we're grateful that um things are moving in the direction that we like um and that the Arizona State Legislature was very mindful in moving forward with um their decision however that doesn't mean that that we're out of the woods or that we can um do without thought process so that's that's my report I just wanted to make sure to state that publicly and openly so that everyone's understanding that um and especially our staff and administrators that we are genuinely um concerned and we are genuinely trying to navigate with the administration how how are we going to move forward um do we have enough funding for the next three years five years ten years I
119don't know um and where and how do we help to support all of our students if we don't have funding so that's that's what I think it's important for that to begin to be stated thus far so there's nothing else okay we can move on um number seven is our barbecuing High School District superintendent's report uh government board members of our community um January was a very exciting month and not only for me but I'm hoping that for everyone um and we had the opportunity to see within the next three years where we head in but also dissecting the budget and and our leadership will be challenged at all levels in the next couple of years as we continue to see what we have and how we can maximize what we have so I'm excited
120to also to continue to work with um other team and to be creative to see in how we can maximize not only the other funding but as well as the positions that we have and I know there's a 35 page superintendent report that all of you spend the whole month of reading and you have so many questions on it um I I also the last couple of pages summarizes with pictures all of the events that took place however in an effort to be strategic the one item that uh I wanna continue to sing the song and dance the song it is where we hit it which is our three-year plan what we have done uh with a three-year plan at the stretch calls is now converting it into a strategic plan so what I have
121done in an effort was to communicate to uh the the uh the plan to the community to our constituents um the the video for the month of January January I've dedicated it for that three-year stretch goal um summarizing what we experienced during that retreat but most importantly um all of the different aspects that we're starting to hear and see it not only in the reports but also in conversation and including the students that were presenting um in the video for the intermediate um at this point I would like uh to present the video that has put together so we can now formally begin moving forward on a strategic plan um maestro foreign school district is heading a new Direction by implementing a three-year stretch called strategic plan consisting of the following five domains number one
122proficiency number two attendance number three essential eight number four supporting Challenge and number five fun standard based instruction in the next three years busd is committed to reach these goals by number one clearing the land of finding solutions to our obstacles number two building structures that support and monitor our growth number three building structures that maintain success what does that mean well for Proficiency in domain one and for attendance in domain two it means the following eighty percent of our students will reach a minimum proficiency of 70 percent depending on a current level of proficiency for each student our team will reinvent teaching to expect a growth of 25 10 or 6 percent and of course bu is the salsa looking for 90 attendance by teacher by grade level by school or hunting area two
123level this plan provides a roadmap of eight components intended to provide our school Leaders with a list of promising practices so that they can evaluate what components they have in place in their schools and which ones they can Implement for better results the these components are referred as to the essential Aid a closer look illustrates how domain 3 or the eight Essentials guides School leaders to successfully Implement number one curriculum mapping with unpacked standards number two a year at a glance to determine when each standard will be taught number three quality tier one lesson plans number four align formative assessment to check understanding number five quality tier 2 interventions number six intentionally including a spiral teaching in the calendar number seven aligned benchmarks and number eight quality tier 3 interventions moving along as a district
124we are shifting to a culture of supporting challenge at a level our primary goal will be to ensure our students and teachers are successful by understanding that all members of the organization have the responsibility to support and challenge each other in order to change the status quo what does that look like in the classroom level well here are four secret ingredients our Compass will be standard-based instruction that is number one fun yes you are right fun lessons for the students to learn and fun for those teachers to teach number two lessons that promote fluency in reading and math number three lessons that students can relate to and number four the expectation that 80 of our students or more will reach 70 or higher but don't take my word for it next you'll be able to
125see some examples of fun fluency culturally relevant lessons and of course how to monitor learning collect yourself what else why did I say none of those what does it create um [Music] turn it down [Music] five yeah [Music] foreign thank you [Music] good morning morning [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] the one item that once again I want to highlight I'm ready for any questions comments 100 bills whatever you wanna are there any questions for Mr Diaz and also all of the reports for all of my directors were included with your support and permission if you don't have any questions for my director of transportation and my director of operations since they are early risers I would like to dismiss them with your support that's fine thank you thank you for the submission of the reports
126thank you [Applause] everybody else stays here I am just kidding I'm teasing hey you're not director of Transportation all right um if nothing else we can move on number eight is our coaches and Club sponsors again just for your information board um the name's there for yearbook Club advisor and BHS softball coach you don't have to go in there we're just it's just quick respectfully thank you thank you um number nine is our first reading of the Arizona School Board uh policy advisories um I don't know if you want to go into anything at this point or you want to kind of share the information I have to share the information and I put together a a very quick PowerPoint uh to give you a brief um snapshot of what each one of those policies
127require um I'll be more than happy if you would like me to go through it it will take less than one minute or we can proceed I will take your advice one minute one minute yeah one minute or less and we get those certified policies are have been presented before you next Slide the very first one is about Family Life Education and everybody's asking these parents permission to go ahead and and do permission on uh um it's a obtained so this can benefit um regarding um anything that has to do with sexual explicit material or education next one um it is the the second policy is about Library material selections for adoption and it provides our schools an instrument that we can use to inform the parents and to notify them so we can be
128in compliance with our policy and um since we don't have a librarian a lot of it it will not apply to us next and the next one is admission of students of foster care we can summarize it by saying that those policies are removing all the obstacles and supporting the students to enroll them within our school district in somebody else's in a different District including providing transportation for those students next one it is um exclusions and exceptions from a school attendance um we by asking our parents to provide adapter notes is not a violation because he's going for my protected agency to a second agency and he's also unifies the other the the the the way you know how to provide information by having a form um by adopting a form the next one and
129last one it is Parental involvement in education it is also provided providing a uniform uh way in which a parent can ask for information or reports related to the students and it also attaches a form that's those are the five item five seconds to spare aboard I just said yes to go ahead and do that on behalf of the public wonder what we're doing when those policies come through so just for that information again thank you so much so much all right um letter F is our vote to convene into the executive session per ARS 15.843 I'll move to approve is there a second second by Miss Kathleen Vance um thank you um for everyone we'll return shortly once we are done with our executive session thank you foreign foreign foreign regarding um why we
130have the need of credit recovery the steps that have been done and what also the steps moving forward to also to continue to prevent students being credit efficient well good evening um so it's kind of a multitude of issues um that we're experiencing uh first when we went 100 virtual uh what we noticed when we initially uh closed in March 2020 that kids struggled with having eight class periods online and so when we went 100 virtual the following year we only offered four classes and so for classes that school year made everybody deficient but what we were trying to do is at least maximize the number of credit students can earn in a brand new setting so that set up everybody to be behind in credits we had some kids who didn't attend school altogether
131because that wasn't their method of choice for Learning and so they didn't do anything for either a semester or for a year um and so we struggled with those with those pieces um and so we're kind of trying to play catch-up at this point um and so you know we've sent out letters we've sent out report cards you know our counselor has met with students typically in the spring what I do is I do home visits and so last week yeah last week I had 15 scheduled I was able to get 13 out of the 15 because two just weren't responding um and when we went there was nobody home I have an additional 15 more that I need to make part of the issue is I have kids that um in years prior we
132had an agreement with a alternative if they were severely behind that they would go to Alternatives so they had the best opportunity to catch up and then could come back to us previous leadership said you will take anybody that says they want to come here so I do have seniors I have a senior with three and a half credits that really shouldn't be with me because the best place for him to catch up would be at alternative I have some kids with nine credits I have some with um and they need 22 to graduate and based on the protocol that we had in place with alternatives those kids would have been starting there but because I was told I had to take everybody I have kids that our setup isn't ideal for them for the
133amount of credits that they need to make up are you being told that now no so have you talked to your Superior about yeah those instances where there's your recommendations are you shouldn't anyone have them yeah the other thing is these you have staff I assume apparently liaison or whatever it may be a number of staff that could probably help you in needing some of those needs I know you mentioned and this is directly from the community so I want this to be on the record that letters are sent um check-ins are done but to be honest I feel like there's some deficiencies especially when it comes to ensuring that that see-through is done um so my only recommendation right now as Mr dssr is our only employees that we really work to find out
134what are we missing are we missing something can there be some type of improvement plans at least applied upon um so that it's really emphasized and I get that that parents play a role in this too um but I haven't seen much uh information in this essence of I mean I don't have students at a second secondary so maybe this is because I don't but we've asked about this I know pointedly other board members have asked where our seniors how many are set to graduate and it's February now and more than half of them are at least a bunch of them are not even ready to do that um so I I just I just want to be very poignantly clear that it looks it looks bad and I want I want you to feel
135like that where can we support you or do we do what are we missing because if you're not if you're not getting that support and like I said that's why I pointedly asked are you getting that directive now from your Superior because if that's the case then obviously we need to have a conversation with him but uh I'm looking directly at Mr Fox in the eyes because do you guys communicate when there's those types of things when hey I haven't I have someone that could be really beneficial that would really benefit from how you guys are structured as opposed to how we're structured are you taking some of what he's doing and maybe trying to apply it to some degree so that you do have some of those availabilities or instances where you can be
136flexible I mean I don't know just throwing it out there because I don't want to come down this like this I just I just I get concerned when I get pause or or anything and I want to be able to see all of those kids walk across the stage that's the main point um and I get that covert happening we gotta stop blaming some of those things and really look at how are we how are we going to be solution based solution thought and not excuses and and that's part of the reason for the Saturday is to give us pay a staff member to monitor on the weekend because we tell we tell the kids 24 7 365 days a year you can access ingenuity has anyone taught them how exactly how to do that
137and where to go and what to because I can't navigate some of these some of these portals I'm sorry I can't but I have to sit with the person who knows exactly what they're doing I haven't seen a session where parents can learn how to use Mountain monitor those things how do you go in there and look at it maybe those are other tools that we can start to say hey parents we're going to give you all the information you need it's readily available accessible here's how to do it because even I have trouble sometimes doing I don't remember passcodes I don't know how to do but we can certainly do that um we've tried like with orientations but those aren't well attended one of the ideas that we had is for um for 8th
138graders in order for students to participate in eighth grade promotion activities eighth grade trip dinner dances whatever we have that their family parent or Guardian has to come to a mandatory meeting to learn about credits prior to them going into high school we talked about doing that for the juniors as well so they can participate in senior activities what we're struggling with is what does that mandatory meeting look like because I want to hit every single grade level what do we have at ninth grade level what do we have at 10th grade level and what do we have at 11th before they we get to that one year where they have to make up all of these credits and part of it's going back to our protocol because Mr Fox and I were good with
139that but then we were told different things and so we weren't able to execute it that way and so in having conversations with families because we've taken them they don't want to necessarily transfer them to all oh I have a couple of them that are like okay my thing is I want them to be set up for success and the way our school days structured you have six classes plus all the additional online classes where with Mr Fox they would just focus on those online classes get caught up um I know there is an agreement with one of the students that transferred over when she has one class left she's going to come back to us because she really wants to graduate from Bobby high school so he's open to all of those conversations to
140figure out what will get kids to that Finish Line you know there's always a negative connotation when we say alternative or all because parents I remember what alternative was before it became what it is today so maybe there is some instances where we can change even what we're saying so that it makes it sound better and more appealing um because I think that it's unfair to you know the accelerated campus to continue to have this negative connotation or this negative association with it but we have to start voicing that as representatives of the District of the school to say accelerated campus is a very it's very different than what it used to be granted it's it's not where all the bad kids go but it is where kids that need a little bit extra help
141going and and that's not a bad thing so yeah sorry [Music] go ahead Sylvia yeah I just had a question regarding um what are the okay so we have 75 seniors um 36 okay so how many are we looking at going through this so I'll turn I mean this um um Saturday Saturday credit recovery as many as we can get in I I um I have 30 home visits to me um because they're either they're on the cusp what they do now is going to make or break whether or not they graduate um I also have some that are we know for sure my 3.5 credit individual is not going to be able to graduate this year and I'm trying but he that student doesn't want to go and I don't know how else to
142help that student when they didn't pass anything the first semester doesn't want to go where to Mr Fox's campus they accelerated has he tried to have you tried to talk to this student she's talking about okay maybe that's an Avenue to try I'm sorry go ahead yeah so um so I have 30 seniors on my list that I'm trying to make home visits I do go with our apparent liaison because we don't we travel together um and so uh I'm hoping that you know this is where we run into the issues I've had conversations because I just don't feel like doing it or I don't want you know trying to get families to them you know like can you check in with them make sure they're going online doing like I said they can access
143it whenever they want and I mean I've had some families are like okay I'm on it and I've had some families that are like well I tell them to do their work and that's hard and then I have had a couple that were like okay and they didn't have any questions and how like I'm like we're gonna probably have Saturdays we have after school tutoring they can do it on the weekends before school after school and it's just really getting them to so that motivation to do it so do we have account does this type of work that does cover I mean that does graduation plans or something you know that that we show the students how many credits they have how many they need and where they're short and then I did when I
144met with um with Ruben um Mr Diaz uh you know and and this and I actually commented on this so that's when at some point are we not gonna need this because you know within the last three years we've happened to do credit recovery [Music] so part of the plan for next year is we're adding another class period so right now we have six periods but because we're we need we have kids that are credit deficient we're adding another opportunity for them to earn a full credit for the upcoming school year um so trying to get rid of the credit recovery I know one of the pushes that we've made is instead of putting kids on online they just retake the class in person um if we have the availability to do that so if
145you didn't pass English 10 and you're now a junior if we can put you in English 10 with the teacher instead of online we're trying to go that route to where they have a live person um take the classes I'm hopeful that we can I just I just remember back when you know I was as far you know when I was working in the school district it was seven credits every year only because you have you get seven credits and your your sophomore 14 or 50 or 12 or more or something like that you're a sophomore you know your your credits you know just add up like that and and then after even after yours your junior year you at least if you had the seven credits you have 21 and you way be out
146Beyond you'll just need four classes I guess you know to try to get your 20 to credit I you know somewhere along the line I did that was lost as you mentioned it would have taken four classes then you know and I I understand that online an issue that we are having to have but even with that you know it could have been caught up by now but we are also required to do a six period block this year which wouldn't have been my option because we know kids are so critic credit deficient but that was a non-negotiable um and so we did said six credits if you do six credits for four years that's 24 credits kids need 22. that's not a lot of wiggle room for kids to make any sort of Errors
147so initially we had pre-covered we were eight periods because the idea was that front load all of the graduation requirements so your Junior and Senior year you're either having internships being able to go into the workforce taking additional dual enrollment classes because now you have that afternoon schedule for tocc to go and take those classes then covet happened we were credit deficient and then we were up here at this six period block that we had to go into so next year you know after the shift in leadership that was one of the first things we asked Mr Diaz was can we switch our schedule for the following year um so that way we have more opportunity because now seven times Source 28 credits and if they miss something they can still catch they can catch
148up before it's it's too late so now we're playing catch-up and trying to devise a plan that we don't have to consistently um do this so we're working on what that looks like uh logistically because when we add that seventh period we're extending our day we're going to start 15 minutes earlier and end 30 minutes later but that impacts primary alt and intermediate in terms of bussing and dismissal time so we're trying to work that out with all of the campuses and transportation um to accommodate the additional class period for our students [Music] anything else I think just emphasizing again if there's anything that we need to be aware of or supportive or or try to figure out I think that ultimately the the communication just needs to happen because that's the first place people
149go is to their board person they're asking those questions and we don't know um we just can pass it along and it goes where it goes but we do understand that there's instances of things that happen and so on and so forth um so it's not that I don't support it I just wanted to say that I wanted to make sure that pointedly asked those questions that are of the community I was just gonna say um I know that covet has definitely changed how we've done things and there are there are protocols in place that you guys laid out to make sure that we're doing the tier one tier two tier three and that's happening and I do understand but I also feel like that conversation with Mr Fox needs to happen and you're having
150that problem with that one student or a couple of students that that's something that I think you need to probably push for I would say like reality is you cannot graduate we need you to go this route and we're trying to help you and I know it's easier said than done but I think those are hard conversations to have but I also feel like you guys came up with a great plan of how we can move forward so I'm looking forward to seeing that and yeah and this is the thing that I brought up to Reuben too because I knew it was going to be an issue people would be like why do we have this but I understand like we all had to there was so many things that happened out of covet that
151were out of our hands and we're now we're trying to push forward and move forward but I I also feel like we also need to start working with those other classes besides the seniors and thinking about those students who are credit deficiency already because I've had students I've had parents come up to me and ask me like what about tutoring services does cocc offer tutoring and I was explaining to them yes they have tutoring Services I talked to Reuben about this I said yes tlcc has some of those services but you have to seek them out and so those are just things to keep in mind and I know you and I are working on a couple of things so I think there's a huge discussion that we can have on our end and then
152just to add I think um Cathy had mentioned it sometime my go-to was to do enrollment because you also can get credits it's from and even you know or three credit cards you get one and a half you know so you know I think that's something that maybe we should explore also we dual enrollment has always been a part of what we do when Danny was there we had all the intentions to grow that dual enrollment program so they could leave with certification our next hurdle was doing Early Childhood um so they could graduate with their Associates there but then there was a lot of changes at tocc and our dual enrollment is kind of in the air right now so we do have kids in college algebra or math 142h and math 151 writing
153101 and writing 102 that program it was supposed to grow into Thon Anthem history government language electives and all of those but again covet happened and I know there was some staffing issues after that so we're trying to like re- re yes so if I may ask what are those changes but you can give us that information later because pointedly we're pushing for dual enrollment but apparently it's changed and now it was it's mostly Staffing no no I know it's off the subjects I don't want to go into it but because that'd be good to know I'm sorry any other questions specifically to the idol if not I'll move to approve is there a second oh president when you have members of the board in a second and according to Ben back to you Mr

160to a man I wasn't prepared are you okay we have this discussion okay you want to pull it okay for Item B under insurance can you bring that up real quick base item one under action item L right there click draft two yeah that's the one you pressed it literally up right there so um [Music] disability so it's in policy for the live term insurance to be three hundred thousand dollars not two hundred thousand dollars that was the change I made and also just give me one second instead of 200 okay [Music] machine is everybody following so far that's the change that they're recommending so I would accept it if there's no other and the second part is to remove uh everything after the third line so what it would say is in addition to
161the group health life insurance term life insurance benefits providers agency the districts will pay for 300 of life insurance coverage from superintendent and she'll pay the premium for short-term disability so what we added was superintendent short-term disability will follow the guide employees like it has in the past and remove everything down below where it says um assuming we're evil assuming reasonable all this would be canceled and his short-term disability would just fall under you still understood that everything assuming was response everything after yeah it's reasonable and charitability okay can you make it a little bigger boom hey okay boom sorry [Laughter] oh my reading glasses wait where did Aggie go she has all those reading glasses guys so that's all gonna go away and you're okay with that and the addition is going to be
