You guys, >> thank you for that. I have no idea. You think this color? >> Yeah. I might have What's going on? boyfriend. I love that. Yeah. >> Yeah. I love that. I just saw that. Yeah, I like this one. Coming everybody. Whatever you want. I can ask to the flag of the United States of America and to the stands one nation indivisible and justice for all. District 117. >> Welcome to all the government students and our Boston. >> Yes. >> Mr. Macol. I'll begin with a statement. We believe in our mission statement, which again is ignites passion and discovery in
every student. We will continue to develop ways to extend the thinking, and opportunities for all our students, our staff, and our families. To that end, it is critically important that we are explicit in stating that bullying, harassment, racism, sexism, and hate speech of any and all kinds. Please work with us to discourage, report, and address these behaviors. Next on the agenda is public comments. To the extent multiple speakers may be addressing a single issue, I reserve the right to limit the number of making public and limit the amount of time for public comment. The board does not respond to comments or attempt to answer questions during the public comment period. Would anyone care to make any public comments? Seeing none go to the next item on the agenda which is our first our only presentation and we'll turn it over to >> Okay. So our first presentation as many of you know
before in December is our annual presentation from our auditors which is um this is Sheridan Jorgensson. She is a CPA and audit partner uh from that company. We worked with her. I mean, I know this is only my fourth year in this position. Um, but um, the company or the school district has worked with this company for many, many years, formerly known as Peter Bella. Um, and so she is here tonight to present the findings from the audit, which is a practice we do every year just to make sure that we're doing appropriate procedures, internal controls, etc., and following what we need to do to be fiscally responsible here in the district. So, a report that a pres presentation that is done every December. So, I will turn it over to Sheridan and thank you
for being here. >> Sounds good. Can you hear me? >> Yes. >> Yeah. Okay, perfect. Well, good evening. Um, yeah, my name is Sheridan Jurgensson. Um, I've been the partner overseeing this audit for several years now. Uh, just wanted to take a few minutes of your time and go over uh the results of the audit. Uh, overall went very well. uh the audit um just seems to get better every year and uh unfortunately the amount of information that we require every year also um increases and so just really appreciate all the work that the business office does to get everything ready for us to do the audit um and then be able to get everything finalized. There was a little bit of delay in getting final reports out this year just due to the government
shutdown and needing some information from the federal government regarding the grants, but overall everything on the district side went um very smoothly. Um overall uh the records were in very good shape. We only had six journal entries. A few of those were just very small reclasses and the rest of them are just entries that we typically make as part of the audit. Um and so there was no uncorrected misstatements or any um errors per se that were had to be fixed as part of the audit. Um in the audit report is uh the most important part is our opinion and in there it states that from the testing we did and everything that we looked at we felt the financial statements were free from material misstatement. Uh another part that we spent a lot of
time on is internal controls. And so we're looking at payroll and accounts payable uh receipts as well as grant reporting um and compliance and just making sure that the district is not only following the written policies and procedures but making sure that no one has too much control in one area and there's proper approval and uh review of everything that comes in and out of the district. And so had no issues with that as we went through that. Um in the audit report you'll just see the results as of June 30th. Uh overall there was just a small decrease in the fund balances over across the funds. Um there's about an $87,000 decrease for the year. Uh the most significant fund changes were transportation uh decreased by about 700,000. Um and the education fund decreased
almost about 300,000. Um and then operations and maintenance increased a little over 500,000. So those were the bigger increase decreases in the fund balances. Um The other thing that we do as part of the audit um is called a single audit which is really separate from the your financial audit and that goes over the grants that you do get from the federal government. And so this year we tested the special um education grants and there's a lot of compliance testing we have to do not only looking at transactions that are paid but making sure that reporting is correct and that everything complies with what the feds are requesting. And so we had no fightings as a result of those of that audit as well. So that was all good news as well. Uh there was
no uh management letter. So there was no uh significant deficiencies or any uh concerns that uh we felt um we needed to bring to the board. Uh everything is um as I mentioned for the internal controls is is uh very well done in the district office. And then finally the last report that we provide to is the AFR and in there is what's called the financial profile and gives the district a rating from zero to four. Four being the best. Um in the past the district has been at the level of four. So the highest level. This year it's dropped a little bit to 3.65 still recognition. Um and that's just due to uh there's one ratio that looks at your revenues or your expenses to your revenues. And um I will say that this
is a ratio that we see a lot of districts in the past couple years are dropping down to a three just because a lot of districts are trying to spend down some fund balances um and using up a little bit of those reserves. So very normal for what we're seeing across all of our school districts. Uh so um but that was the only um change in that. So just overall very great audit and um so I but I will answer any questions if Right. Thank you. Have a good evening. >> Yeah. They're very detail oriented. consent agenda and I'll explain that a little bit for our government students. I typically don't do this every meeting but since you're here I'll explain it to you. The consent agenda is allowing the board members to take a
bunch of things that you would normally have to approve individually and they're very routine. So we approve them with one motion but I'll identify what are those things in that motion. That way we don't have to be here tomorrow. I know. So, all items listed under the consent agenda are adopted by one motion unless a member of the board or the superintendent request that an item be removed and voted separately. Consent agenda items are matters that the board agree and should be voted on in one motion time. Tonight's items on the consent agenda include the approval of the regular meeting minutes from last month, November 13th, the approval of the close session meeting minutes from November 13th under personnel. the approval of substitute hiring positions, the approval of long-term long-term substitute staff, the approval of
volunteer positions, the approval of student teachers, and the approval of all resations, and also the approval for requests for extended absence. Also on the consent agenda will be the approval of all bills, which is the biggest part, and payroll under funds 10, 20, 40, and 50. and also in the consent agenda. And finally are the Freedom of Information Act requests which we had five requests and they were all responded to. So with that would any member of the board of the superintendent like the consent agenda prior to approval to the consent agenda as presented motion by Mr. Second by Dixon and we'll do a roll call beginning >> Jacobs Mr. >> Yes. >> Okay. Next item >> on the business office. >> Okay. So I have four items this evening. The first the first meeting
for students for the 26 27 school year. We actually discussed this uh at the financial meeting last week where we uh entertained the idea of eliminating the senior fees for both activities and musicals. So basically one of each for each building. Um so I possibly adult or non. So we discussed those options. So I said I would do some data. So I went searching and um I also wanted to thank the building for helping me with some of these items. But the first thing in looking at at the athletics um overall um I what I did is I compared the um or I looked at the number of senior tickets that were sold for the football games this year. We had four home games at four. Um so look at that because that's really our
largest revenue source when it comes to the pledge for boys football and Um, so just looking at those eight home football games, we only sold a total of $784. So that's not a lot, right? Um, so that was again seniors for athletics and for what we're charging currently for adults, $3 for the nonbergo. and our senior. So then um looking at our activities so fine arts um so what I did basically I looked at last year's spring and then this year's fall and what we're currently charging is $7 for an adult ticket and then $57 and senior. So unfortunately when you look and pull that from our system. We have the nonist and the senior group together. So I have a total number of tickets for those those four events and I talked to some
people in the building and did my best guess of what I thought that breaken district. I went with 7030 70enior district might be a little bit high but okay. Um so roughly we did not charge seniors based on the amount of tickets about $3600. So um again that's based on taking that away from the senior charging for adult. So if you take away that total um between athletics and you're looking at a little bit, right? I didn't pack. So, if I were to make a recommendation, the district talking about it, we would second reading discussion would recommend just go ahead and eliminating the senior ticket but still not increasing the other district just the fact that that's not significant amount of money when you're talking about our revenue budget. Um and then what we can
do moving forward we can be more diligent about breaking down and keeping track of the senior versus student and So this is first reading questions, comments, concerns. Hey, I would like to see this data. >> What is this income used for? >> Well, it really goes to our general fund for revenue. So then we just turn around. We don't Let's say $85,000 came in from admission. So we turn around and say that it's just a general revenue that we couldn't hassle to collect. >> No, I mean I think it's a normal process for schools. We have as part of our collective agreement that we get workers and collect those fees which I'm sure you at different events football games. So I think actually a lot of times people do enjoy working. So expense versus $5,000.
>> Well, when you're producing a play, it's a lot more than $5,000. >> No, but I mean for the seniors and for the for the people to collect the money versus the income from seniors. >> Well, yeah. If you're paying somebody here for 80 to 100 depending on how long they're so $800. just keep the now I will say that when kudos to I said how does he compare with especially we talked in the past And really um with looking at those prices, I'll say they're all over the board. Um it looks like um at least they respond like I would think and central $5. We don't we don't charge for those things. I don't recommend char And then it says, it doesn't break it down, but it doesn't say that they allow the students
their own for the same as us. I don't have the price, but I'm not sure. Wanda is charging $11 for adults and students for their musical and Round Lake charges at the door and dance for their students at the door and then round excuse me for the play online. So this I think is definitely a little bit more. So maybe to help clear up question. >> So right off the bat we have those people. We're not losing anything because they're not getting tangible when they're there. They're getting entertained. So it's really good for the community. It's not likely that their numbers will d taking >> a tal without someone >> revenue that comes in for arts goes into a general fund >> general it's a general fund but we don't say that when fine arts
or really anybody else >> because we the district funds the production cost for the plays >> right we turn around and they'll say, "I need this amount of money in our purchase services or supply or whatever it may be." And then they allocate what kind of funds they need to be able to do those things. >> So, you see the kids are Like I said, more questions. >> I'm sorry. >> Yeah. >> So again, anything else I can get for you. >> Okay. Speaking of fine arts or continume Yes. So, but this is something that we're keeping with the theme of press, right? Remember last time I brought turf now. So, um this is something that Trey Hickey and his team have been talking about for a few years. Um it's probably I try to
get Michael or excuse me Michael However, he's not here. >> But at least there's a picture. So, this is something that the fine arts department has been talking for the last few years. Lakes has also had this on here probably three years, I think. um where these their current uniforms are going on 17 years of age. They actually I will say kudos to both the schools that they really do take care of them but then that's why they're so long. So but here we go with another round at where again Trey and his team have been looking at what would they like the design. What we did is after we came up with some different concepts, we uh it to our different different companies within our cooperative purchasing program and we got numbers back from
two different companies. Um this one is the um uh uniform where it is more expensive than the other two we got from Illinois. Um but the other one was Delaware. So it was it was $8700 cheaper. However, this one way better quality definely durable something that actually brea this this uniform that you see here um we are ordering would like to order 142 of those will be for drum majors they will be And I said, "Are you sure you want white?" And they do. So they're white where I do have a picture and then a red stash. I'm sure there's a better term for it for a one and oh one and on the other side. So you can you're like, "Oh, I've seen this before." It's because it's very very close to the University
of >> Illinois. Memorial very love. I know. heard great things about them. So yeah, very very happy uniforms, but we know uniforms are expensive. But of course I take care of them. They last a long time. So it is the district recommendation to award the purchase of uniforms to brothers and company 13. 55942. >> With that recommendation, I would entertain a motion to approve the purchase of the ACS Homeland Brothers and Company, 555,942. >> Questions, comments? How do we get them dry clean every year? And then so I'm sorry. So it's 142 and then eight of the drum majors. And then we have storage box for the helmet or hat, whatever you call it. The plumes, they'll have coat, excuse me, um the garment bag for them. Make sure Another >> question. Yes. The last
two things are just general items that you typically see. The first one being items. So this is you guys know we got that new to us from the county regional office of education. Um our office area is set up you have seen that. Um and um these are five cubicles that we basically taken apart where we will actually use two of them or parts of them and parts of the others over. So some of them will rese very very grateful to Michael. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. If you come into the district, you're see recommended to approve the disposal of the listed items as presented. >> And with that recommendation, I would entertain a motion to approve the disposal of those listed items as presented this even. >> Yes. Every month is the capital project update.
Uh we did get another payment for the group here at $216,000. And then the baseball weather has slowed things down a little bit. Um but we are still working Moving on to the agenda, we go to governance first school. school. So every year this time of year, correct? So we just last week and I and we went ahead and put together our offering and then are sharing it out to all of our students and looking forward to getting ready We're doing this summer policy. So this is just a name change. Next one is second for our proposed calendar. So I would make app recommendation. School year 26 27. Any questions on that? Are there questions? >> Mr. >> Yes. The next one is asking for personal privilege to request eventition. members are really great at
professional development statewide governance award. So at that dinner recognized for that awarded I would entertain a motion approve the change of meeting dates from April 9th Thursday April 9th by any questions now any discussion anybody concerned with that ups Thank you. I really appreciate that. >> The next one is also voting on this. This is a discussion for people in the audience. There's a service that we pay to most districts do in Illinois and they look at all the laws that are passed assembly and all those laws require schools to do something then we're responsible for implement. So this is press edition 12 or most of them are tiny. So we have a rhythm where we members watch the whole hour and a half webinar from the press and we went through the big changes.
We try to get our head around the other board members. But I would ask any discussion now. I took some notes. two big we have two questions to answer one regarding the inclusion of Irish into the curriculum and social studies were abouturriculate so our answer that would be no second one is regarding who uh the textbook additional material supplemental materials and the change to that is that the superintendent is in charge of authorizing and approving supplemental materials textbooks and all the material the duty of the board. So our answer to that question would be to add that change that question. The other stuff is just kind of They have a whole new thing language number two question. But you'll see all that until next month. If you have any question they updated the original title
agency law enforcement and just explicitly codify how request received citizenship or immigration And it's justifying already. First, I would like to turn over to our schools. We'll start with some sports are under program. The boys basketball team have celebrating the anniversary of boys basketball. If you haven't attention on social media, coach has been some old sharat wrestlers across the Midwest were there. Top finishers included fourth and 157 last month. We had a fantastic college level. 029winners were collected in the main office at the girls basketball game on December 9th and Fox 32 came to December 10th and feature our school and our involvement in the tour guide. We built the celebration with over 200 meters live on Fox 32. Also on Thursday, December 4th, our evil pals secure a huge 13-7 win over a strong staff team in a competitive game of floor hockey. The staff start two periods, but they they were overshadowed by the Eagle Powers members with their continuous resilience. They also had a huge class supported them throughout the game and shared their evil. And today we met up and with our other students and we discuss details with our upcoming years. We focus on the portion of a graduate and information really important. Well, you covered my big topic
was just to thank students and the audience and all of our students watching at home for the amazing philanthropic efforts at both schools. Uh they kind of describe food drives and volunteer works. Shout out for our third school district office tonight. They were over at the meals, the children that were coming for their shop. Walmart. My one other item which is to congratulate our school board on the second year in a row. They presented statewide at the statewide school members conference to another hugely packed room. Our title was BOE predicament with prizes. So overwhel I think this might be an annual uh event. There might be a season but this board embodies the principles and they share them. very members. So they share the lessons they learned over many years of facing problems and solving
them but they do a really function most of the presentation that's all I have. at this point opportunity for board members to make any comments or statements or anything like >> I just want to share a new Dr. Thomas background July 1 also has presented improvement plan. They made great Kudos to both philanthropic endeavors and to the really good showcase. Just lots of fun, very entertaining and I totally enjoyed it. was finally able to make it in New York that weekend so good. >> Thank you. organized. >> I just like watching all the students say hi to >> It was lots of fun. That's a fun part. Our job. Next item on the agenda for the government is called session. That's where the board of education goes into a private room. We talk about things
that we don't have to talk about in front of the public. We'll have close session today, but we will come back. session and have action after close session before we adjourn the meeting. You are all welcome to stay but we don't know how long session will be but you also close session. Okay. So with that I would entertain a motion that enter session for the purpose of discussing the following exceptions to the open meetings act. A the appointment performance employees individuals who serve as contractors in the park, recreational educational setting or specific volunteers of the public body for the public including hearing testimony on complaints against an employee specific contractor recreational educational setting or a volunteer of the public or against the public to determine it validity. However, a meeting to consider an increase in

For those dessert,
