006any board salutes this evening yes bob um john evans principal of uh indian trail principal of plainfield central elementary dr jennifer higgins and also like to salute uh mr scott winters principal of lakewood falls for their update on their programs of trying to get their students uh where they need to be before they end the year thank you paul appreciate that any other poor solutes all right and we do not have any special recognitions for this evening so we'll move down to 5.01 public comment so once again district 202's protocol and procedure is to allow up to two minutes per comment and up to 20 minutes total for public comments subject to the board president's discretion as we have done for previous meetings uh since we have been uh remote we will we allowed individuals

007to email the board of education uh for public comment uh we had we've received 31 public comments since the february 8th board meeting to avoid any suggestion of impropriety editing etc the director of community relations mr tom hernandez will read each email they will be read again in the time stamped order that they were received up to 5 pm today word for word minus appropriate redactions and subject to the stated time limits for each comment and for public comment overall and again that's two minutes per individual comment and not to exceed 20 minutes total all public comments will also be posted on the district website as part of the information for this meeting with appropriate redactions to remove personal email addresses and names or information identifying specific students or staff as again we would ask

008for that in person as well for those items to be excluded and as always the board of education has received all of these uh emails in their full text as well individual review previous to this meeting or subsequent to it so with that tom i will turn it over to you tom i think you're muted um you're muted hey don't count that against my 20 minutes no the clock has not started yet okay all right uh first comment is from andrea schreibat as i sit and listen to the board of education meeting on february 8th i am deeply disturbed by the update of the return to school plan that the superintendent presented imagine being in a boardroom with ceos high-ranking leadership and investors when the presenter says well i'm not going to make any promises

009to five-day in-person learning for this school year there would be an uproar from all parties in that room and that approach would be unacceptable to say the least they the ceos and leadership would demand to go back to the drawing board to create a plan that is well executed or that company will be no longer in business well last night we heard from the investors parentheses the parents we want the option to send our children to in person for five full days to start getting a quality education that they deserve i also listen to the superintendent explain how they visited schools to see how they were open and to get ideas from the open schools i think this is great but clearly his team or dr april didn't visit the ones that turned gyms cafeterias

010media centers and basements into classrooms because if he did then he couldn't use space to accommodate children as an excuse i have toured the those schools and have been amazed at what they have accomplished they wear masks maintain social distancing eat lunch in the classrooms take temperature checks no pre-certifications no plexiglass on desks no laptops and have managed to keep their schools open since august with very little covet 19 infections it is time for psd 202 to be created with the cdc slash health department recommendations and open the schools up for five full days for those who want it this district will go down in history as the district that failed a generation of children and quite frankly all administration superintendent and board members should lose their jobs or positions we are almost a year

011in the pandemic and i can't believe we are still discussing this the board and superintendent has received numerous articles guidance and examples saying that schools should be open and that they are not spreaders of covert 19 vaccines are within arm's reach for the teachers covet 19 cases are decreasing and our children continue to suffer as a parent who has voiced concerns many times i am expecting an updated five full day plan for the next board meeting which is today this hybrid model is a joke the children have less education time parents must change work schedules or figure out pick up and drop off and that is two minutes for that one next is from a student at eagle point elementary hello my name is i'm a student at eagle point elementary i use zoom to

012go to class and use google classroom to do work i think we should go back and here are some reasons why first of all zoom gets super glitchy and sometimes we can't even turn in our work we take so much time we could have spent learning trying to restart zoom so we don't glitch it is so stressful for a lot of kids because their internet might be bad so it is so much harder for them to do their work and learn during zoom next we get so much homework now we usually get one or two papers to do for homework and the rest in class but with e-learning they have to post so much more it causes so much stress that would not be there if we were in the classroom i get so much

013anxiety from all the work posted because it takes so much time that would not be taken in the classroom there are mostly seven assignments to do so we all take about three to four hours on work because most of the homework has multiple pages to do this is why i think we should go back to the classroom and why you needed to hear what kids think thank you for reading this is from another student i am a student at myself and many others have felt the effects of online half day school compared to live full day school the material is skimmed through at no fault to the teachers they have a limited time frame and limited amount of resources to teach us students have suffered whether it be through time allotted to complete a test

014emotionally etc for example i am an ap us history student we have very large tests some consisting of writing a five paragraph essay it would make sense to cut the test in half but it is not we still have nearly three quarters of the test to do with only half the time also other school districts have been in person full time with little to no issue i do not see why we can't do the same many students mental health has suffered and our academic needs have also suffered we need to be in school five days a week from 7 a.m to 2 10 p.m so we may actually learn when are you going to make students a priority next is from brian eckstein our neighbors to the north in naperville have saved their residents 10

015million dollars a year from having less expenses they are passing that savings back to residents why are we borrowing millions of dollars let's follow naperville's example of not wasteful spending this isn't a time of if we don't spend it we will lose it for next year this is time to help residents who have been hurt by this pandemic residents have had extra expenses while the school saves money we've had to upgrade our internet buy chromebooks for each of our children parentheses yes it was a waste to spend six million on computers months into the school year my students school bus has two children on it why can't they ride the bus a little longer and put four kids on each bus so much wasteful spending next is from another student my name is and i'm

016a fifth grade student i'll be returning to school a week from tomorrow i'm so happy i cannot wait although i'm grateful to be in real school a few hours a week i can't help but be angry that you are keeping us from the quality education that we deserve i would like each and every board member to sit through a week of zoom classes so you can see the many challenges my classmates and i face everyone is making the decisions for us without thinking about what we want and need i have big goals for my life and not being in school has put me in a place where i'm not sure i can reach those goals i heard my class will only have a couple students on a and b days why can't i go all

017the days then why are you keeping kids out of school when all we want is to go to school i know i'm only 11 and i have a lot to learn but let kids who want to be in school go to school for the whole week i can go to amusement parks play all my sports go to the store church and pretty much everywhere but school and that's messed up i used to love school and now i hate it i would do anything to go back to real school i pray every night that god will do the right thing i pray he will make the people who don't want me in school realize they are only hurting us kids we don't deserve to sit through fake school anymore please think of the kids because we're

018the ones living with the consequences of your decisions next is from molly bass more districts around us are going back in person five days several districts have been in person five days all or most of the school year the three hours and 40 minutes two days a week in a hybrid form this late in the year is not enough district 202 does not have large numbers of turning currently because parents have finally formed a system and two days is not enough to risk losing that consistency we need five days back in person for those who want it you have to find a way to make it work or risk a decline in enrollment we saw it in the fall chances are with no solid plan in place and being executed it will happen again or

019step down and let others step in who have gathered data and formed logical plans to put our children's education above all else next is from karen ciolino it's time to get more kids in the building and have a solid plan on the next steps you have in-person classes with one or two kids in the room there's no reason why these kids who want and need to be there can't go all four days there are four children on my son's bus that's insane what a waste of the taxpayers money and the planet's resources you having no concrete plan for when these kids return makes no sense the teachers are getting vaccinated you're looking at at about five weeks from now that almost will be fully vaccinated you need to have a plan that starts then not

020a plan that you make then but a plan that you make now that starts then that plan must include full days your half day schedule is impossible for full-time working parents and your excuse of lunch being an issue has been proven wrong in many other local school districts you need to open up the board meetings to the public it's time you hear what we're begging you for in person it's funny that it's safe enough for the teachers to go to work while you hide in your homes afraid to listen to what you're doing to our children get a plan and move it and move forward it's time pardon me next is from michelle colby i'd like to request that the board meetings are open to the public i mean in person there is no reason

021that parents should not be allowed to come in and speak to the board members you the board need to need to see the parents that are emailing you let us speak to you face to face you've been hiding behind your computers far too long do any of the board members have children in the district do you see how this is affecting them daily emotionally mentally and even physically do you see their their education suffering why do all of the board members just sit there and say nothing surely not every board member agrees with what is happening to our children's education speak up say something all of you just sit and stare at your camera or look down maybe the ones looking down are embarrassed at the decisions that keep getting made why are the questions

022asked in the letters not answered it seems that the only time something gets answered during a meeting is if you make a false accusation then the parent can be lucky enough to have dr abram speak up i will apologize for making the mistake of not getting first-hand information from principal earthem i'm sorry i listened to a trusted source uh that i do still believe maybe earthen did not formally invite april for a tour but i do believe it was talked about during a bussing conversation and not accepted april did say that d202 has toured other districts did you use any information you learned from those visits please explain why we are still sitting at home the science you are following just doesn't make any sense please answer my other questions they were never addressed why

023is my child not getting the same in-person learning that someone with a last name that starts with z gets honestly please answer how this plan was ever put into place my child's first day of in person was lost due to a holiday during spring break my child will miss an additional two days of in person the list goes on and on for days lost who is the mastermind that put this so-called plan together please answer my questions maybe just maybe if april actually reached out and asked principal earthen how to go back safely maybe we would already be in person five days a week like they are maybe if abram used the information he learned from the tours he spoke of maybe we would be able to have in-person learning more than three hours two

024days a week and that's two minutes for that one next is from uh amy krahula i would like uh okay i would like the board members to put themselves in our shoes and ask themselves if the current situation is being handled wrong or not if you believe that the right thing is being done then you are wrong there are teachers in our district who admit the kids are not learning and are behind if your decisions are being made by the teachers union this is wrong students strive better by going to school in person please make the right decision and open up all of our schools five days a week all day the science says it is safe to go back to school our children's education has suffered long enough uh next is from donna pearson

025to everyone involved in making a decision i support going back to school full time and getting back to some sort of normalcy with that being said i am happy and thankful that some sports have started for the high school athletes but there is no reason the parents should not be able to attend every other district is allowing two parents per athlete except for district 202. for some students that are seniors this year for seniors this may be the last chance for the parents to see their child play many athletes do not continue after high school you're just taking another milestone away from the students and their families for the other levels you're just stopping us from being there for support and encouragement please reconsider and allow families to attend there are ways of letting this

026happen next is from mike monade 202 administrators i was very pleased to read in one of the many emails we received from the district that almost half of the 202 staff have received the vaccine this week and that the remainder of staff will be receiving it this week with that being said what is your plan to continue on this path of least resistance that is hybrid learning or is there an effort being put forth towards planning for a full return doubtful i am sure but one can hope right you've all been entrusted by the taxpayers of plainfield to provide the best education possible for our children while it's safe to say you have failed at this at that thus far this school year but lucky for you you have a little more time remaining this

027year something can be salvaged if you take a step to show that you have the best interest of the student body at the center of your attention you can send the students back to school full time safely and in person i don't know how many reports studies or government agencies it will take for you to understand that full day full in person schooling can be safe and your teachers shouldn't have an issue especially if they are vaccinated and have ppe it is time to stop dancing around local metrics and unions if the students do not go back to full time this school year the first thing i would like the school board to do is to show a vote of no confidence in lane april your failed attempt at leadership throughout this pandemic has been

028sad the second thing i would like to see is the community force a vote of no confidence in the school board because you have all failed our students and you have failed the parents and taxpayers this is an academic year these students will never get back and it was stripped by all of you and one quick side note can the district stop sending emails promoting local businesses and activities for the students to participate in you clearly do not want the students in school but you support them participating in going to these activities in person amongst other students and families riddle me that and that's two minutes for that one next is from chris coyne superintendent april and the 202 board attached is yet another article from the cdc saying school should be open and in-person

029learning has not been identified as a substantial driver of virus spread and transmission among students is relatively rare this is full-time school as the cdc points out later in the article going to hybrid if there was highly uh if there was high community transmission they also state that teacher vaccination is not a prerequisite for reopening please read it and quote unquote follow the science why do we continue to have groundhog day here in plainfield where meeting after meeting month after month we lagged behind other districts where are the bold leaders why do we have people who do not have kids in the school district serve on the board and rule on families that do that should be a rule change why are people serving 20 years on the board there should be term limits of

0308 to 12 years max another rule change why are we not having these meetings in a field house or gymnasium with a capacity limit and masks you need to face the community in person and quit hiding remotely you do not need more money from the community there is more money and shutdown savings than what is being reported despite the levy signaling every year from 202 the fact is my 202 taxes alone have gone from five thousand dollars a year to seven thousand dollars a year just for my one house multiply that for the community please make the kids the number one priority over every other competing interest that is your job do it uh next is from gabriella waldman i'm writing to you today not to insult the decisions you have made thus far i'm

031writing to you pleading to bet to bring our kids back to school i am pleading with you to let us as parents decide what we think is safe for our kids let us choose cobit has a 99 survival rate so i'm going to choose the mental health of my children as the priority i know this pandemic is not going away overnight so how long are you going to say we will add more days when it is quote unquote safe to do so is that a year or two years or three years what will our kids mental and emotional well-being look like years from now if you continue sticking them in front of a computer for hours at a time please stop being so scared it's not safe the fact that you are not bringing them

032back full time tells me this stopped being about coven a long time ago there are plenty of control groups of schools that have proven there was no spike in covid when the kids went back to school we've asked you over and over again to please look at the science and if it really were about covid the science and control groups would make this a very simple decision so dr abram i would like to know on what grounds is it not safe my husband and i work full-time and have been very lucky our employers have made accommodations to be at home with our kids thus far i just have to say shame on you board members for insinuating that we look at teachers as babysitters it has nothing to do with that for us this has

033to do with the fact that i've gotten to watch my child in tears because my child is struggling so bad to learn to read learning in front of a screen all day is not an education i'm doing as much as i can to help my child's teacher i felt so bad for my child she's been tutoring one on one a couple days a week i mean talk about going above and beyond i'm so thankful for my kids amazing teachers they're doing everything in their power to make this a good experience for the kids but they can only do so much uh children children's livelihood is in your hands do the right thing one minute remaining tom all right sir the next one is from a carissa zielinski and it is literally a verbatim cut and

034paste from the last one uh the next letter then is from jackie d luigi price today i'm writing to say thank you for taking the steps to get our children back into the classroom but it is not enough two days a week for four hours a day with classes shortened to 30 minutes does not allow for the proper education they deserve and need with only small amounts that have chosen to return there is no reason why these children can't return to five days in person fifteen kids in the classroom can find social distance of six feet or wear masks which you are mandating the cdc recommends either of these options not both which has been forgotten the excitement i saw after my child got off the bus when returning to school was something i have

035not seen in almost a year but just as that excitement came so did the disappointment to have to get back online to learn for the other three days of school the other districts are making plans for five days in person and many have been back full time since august you are failing our children and we need immediate change do the right thing for the mental health and future of our children that's it thank you mr hernandez appreciate that as always all right um moving on in our agenda to item six consent agenda we actually have eight items this evening i will read all of them individually but we will take them as one vote uh at the end so first is item 6.01 approval of the regular session meeting minutes of january 25th 2021 and

036february 8 2021 and the special session meeting minutes of february 11 2021 item 6.02 is approval of the certified and non-certified personnel agendas both as presented item 6.03 is approval of reclassification of an administrative assistant for business and operations to department coordinator of business and operations for the 2021-2022 school year an estimated cost of 5250.55 cents item 6.04 is approval of reclassification of one community relations coordinator to community relations assistant director for the 2021-2022 school year and an estimated cost of 4922.48 cents item 6.05 approval of reclassification of a non-exempt coordinator of transportation regular education to exempt coordinator exportation regular education position for the 2021-2022 school year at an estimated cost of 5 000 approval of change in title and reclassification of two technology specialist positions to technology coordinator for the 2021-2022 school year and

037an estimated cost of ten thousand dollars per position approval of a new technology position technology project manager for the 2021-2022 school year at an estimated cost of 90 000 annual and 6.08 approval of a new technology position technology application support specialist for the 2021-2022 school year at an estimated cost of 52 000 annually i can get a motion motion bob's motion second heather ii charlie you can call the roll mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr roby yes mr kerber yes items pass and so now with that um i would like to just make a couple of additional comments one um i would like to officially welcome dr stacy dibitetto as the first principal of our 18th elementary school wallin oaks a little background on stacey for those of

041ccc comprises teachers administrators parents and students of many ethnic racial religious and experiential backgrounds the group has achieved numerous significant goals to improve cultural awareness and sensitivity among our students and staff so far they have focused on staff professional development curriculum and communications the ccc is looking at these key areas through the lens of cultural diversity equity and inclusion future work will continue to focus on initiatives to improve student representation and disciplinary procedures increase staff diversity and producing more and better diverse resources for parents students and staff we have als we have also formed ccc committees at each of our 30 schools each is charged and empowered to work with building level leaders to convey this vital commitment throughout district 202 the board of education proudly applauds and affirms these initiatives as just one example

042of districts 202's commitment to creating systems and resources to give all students the best opportunity to succeed in school and in life outside of school we thank the cultural competency committee for its hard work and dedication over the last several years to bring us to this point and help continue to move us forward thank you very much and uh appreciate uh those couple of minutes to just to review those areas as well so i moved down to item seven for action site and finance committee and i will turn it over to mr cook thank you mr kerber excited finance committee met last wednesday february 16th committee is bringing four items to the board for approval tonight we'll first start with the um with the treasures report with the beginning cash and investment balance of 158

043million four hundred twenty six dollars and forty six cents we had revenues of thirteen million two hundred sixty eight thousand three hundred and twenty nine dollars and seventy nine cents we had expenditures of twenty three million two hundred and fifty thousand seven hundred and three dollars and one cent for ending cash an investment balance of 148 million twenty six thousand sixty five 65.88 7.02 approval of the acceptance of the treasury report that is my motion day's motion second rod second charlie can call roll mr smith miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook mr roby yes mr kerber yes item passes 7.03 approval of the payment of bills in the amount of 5 million 930 dollars and 25 cents that is my motion day's motion it's like rod's second charlie miss drake yes mr cook

044yes mr roby yes mr smith mr westfall yes miss dickerberg yes item passes 7.04 approval of installations as submitted that is my motion dave's motion second rod's second charlie mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr kerberg yes item passes 7.05 approval of the acceptance of donations is submitted that is my motion dave's motion second roger second charlie mr smith miss drake yes mr westfall yeah mr cook mr roby yes mr kerber yes item passes mr kerber that is all from second finance thank you mr cook let's jump down to item eight for action curriculum and technology committee mr smith thank you mr kerber um we have one approval for a 30-day display of four new textbooks to the district they are uh forensic science to replace

045the ten year ten years already had ap statistics is another uh replacement update the sixth edition ap environmental science to replace the 10-year old textbooks and then trade math which is a new course that we're offering at the high school level um we also look at the textbook and electronics doctor would you uh give us more information about uh display and what we're looking at sir thank you mr smith um before books are purchased we put them on 30-day display and those book textbooks will be available at our district office pending board approval a common question that we get regarding textbooks is you know what are we doing with e-books and hard book you know hardcover books and so on and so just to give you um just a graphical example of um our textbook

046can you see that chart with where we're comparing the textbooks ebooks and so on so this is an example of this year's uh forensic science book uh this is the actual cost for this and for the past three years and even up to we've done this for every single textbook purchase where we've gotten a cost on the textbook the ebook only over time and then the textbook and the ebook and so for example we have the for forensic science book which is up for 30 day display uh if we were to purchase a textbook only it's a 101.50 cents if we were to purchase just a six-year e-book so electronic version only it's the same cost as our textbook uh and then it expires after the six years um if we were to do just

047a one-year e-book only so a reoccurring subscription it's 50 a year uh and then if we were to do the textbook plus a one year e-book only it's 108 what we have recommended is we continue we purchase a textbook and then a six-year e-book so students have both hardcover or hot hard copy and electronic version for this for a cost of 118 dollars and so there's a perception that with electronics and computers and so on um that the textbooks go away when in essence really the textbook companies actually uh prefer you to get the ebook um which was the cost and if it were to extend past six years uh it would be seven years you have to pay fifty dollars more and so on so we will continue to do this we wanted to

048give a visual representation both to our school board and our community that even though you know our recommendation is 118 where students will have a textbook and the electronic access for six years uh you see if we were to just get the the textbook um you know it's a 17 cost for the six years electronic uh access as well so that's an overview of how we compare our textbooks ebooks and why we do our textbooks and the ebooks together so i don't know if you have any questions on that before we move forward thank you dr wood uh my motion is to approve 30 days of these four textbooks so actually bob we're gonna have to take them as four individual because yeah they're they're listed on the agendas four separate so yeah we're going

049to take them each one at a time okay uh my first motion would be the trades math book for the new trade math course cost is ten thousand eight hundred twenty nine dollars all right bob's motion second heather second charlie mr cook yes mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr claire berg yes item passes second uh motion on the new uh replacements for textbooks forensic science to replace the 10 year old textbook cost is and fifty 36.47.50 that's my motion bob's motion second heather second charlie mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr kerberg yes item passes our third textbook uh is our ap statistics update sixth edition replacement third editions that have been used for the last 10 years cost

050is sixty one thousand eight hundred and twenty twelve dollars and forty cents bob's motion second heather second mr mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yeah mr cook yes mr kerberg yes item passes approval for the next textbook for the high school level ap environmental science replacing 10 year old textbooks cost is 31 484 dollars and 30 cents that's my motion bob's motion second heather second charlie mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr kerberg yes item passes uh the next item is informational we had an opportunity to uh meet with our three of our principals uh mr evans from indian trail our dr henning uh plainfield sunset elementary mr scott wood winters from lakewood falls and this information how our students are

051doing in each of their buildings what they're trying to do to get our students caught up and support the people providing not only in the classroom but with the learning also it was very informational they did a nice job and their staff should be uh really being paid on the fact that they've done an outstanding job up to this point uh another topic that we received information on technology update uh sharing information about technology programming it works and shifting to a cool enterprise system and also one of those questions i sent to dr wood also to uh martin luther director of technology ryan i'm a schleider assist uh assistant director and also uh one of our district administration on uh helping our staff update look at the answers they provided if you have any questions

052please uh talk to dr woods at the staff or myself um dr woods is there anything else you want to explain about the google enterprise sure currently we use google for education and that is uh really the biggest part is google classroom uh our recommendation is next year we move to google suite enterprise and really what that does as far as the user experiences just makes things coordinate better where the gmail the phone google meet can be used as well in place of zoom you can host larger meetings there's security and network features and then there's also originality reports where students can check their plagiarism and or they can self-check and then their teacher can check it as well and so we really believe that this shift to google enterprise we'll just make things work

053better for us within our learning management system the significant change for the user will not be much and you'll continue to learn more as we move forward throughout the year okay thank you dr woods if you have any questions again uh dr woods and laura reed and uh margie banucci all worked on this together thank you again uh another topic that we informational topic uh and it was quite enlightening is the social emotional learning uh reviewing the social emotional learning initiative that we have in the district that was started last year um mrs griffith could you uh go into a little more detail please yes absolutely um so at our committee this week we um it was a follow-up to last month's presentation about student interventions and so our committee reviewed um the social emotional

054supports that we've been providing to our students our families as well as our staff over the past school year so we started by reviewing a survey that we gave to our social workers and first during remote and hybrid learning our social workers are providing direct services to our students as well as consulting with parents we found that that wraparound between student and school and home is really important so our social workers have seen an increase in the number of students staff and families that are seeking extra support for social emotional needs and we have been providing those contacts to additional supports whether in district or outside of the district in addition to that we talked about social emotional lessons so social emotional learning has been critical during remote learning um as well as during hybrid

055learning we've heard from many of our parents about the concerns about social emotional needs for their students while at home so our social social workers have created daily social emotional lessons the lessons are based on data that we have from our panorama survey that we gave our students at the end of last year in the beginning of this year um and so each level does have a dedicated time and resources to support the lessons that our social workers created they used um information such as panorama second step and playbook which is part of panorama to help make sure that the lessons are really geared towards what our students need and are not just general social emotional lessons so that has been a big part of remote learning in addition we reviewed our panorama survey from

056the fall the panorama survey looks at different areas of social emotional learning and how our students are responding overall we did see favorable responses at the elementary and most of our scores were within the average range nationally we did see some minor decreases however it's important to note when we're comparing the data in panorama when we assess our third graders this year and compare it to the third graders from last year it's not looking at the same group of students so it is not cohort data and so right now we're working with panorama to see if we can get access to that type of data the cohort data to actually compare the same groups of students each year to year for middle school and high school we also saw mostly favorable responses however we did

057see some dips below the national norms in grit self-advocacy and sense of belonging but what we found very interesting is that our sixth graders had a stronger connection to school than our seventh and eighth graders and we would assume in a remote learning environment where the sixth graders have never been in the building that they would have the the least amount of a connection and they actually saw a stronger connection at that grade so that was really good to see and made the schools feel better about connecting with those sixth graders and the efforts that they put in one big thing that we reviewed was our referral gps which is a software program that can that can connect our families to outpatient therapy psychiatric services and assessments for their children we have been providing many

058of our families with access to those services we did see an increase in the number of referrals for our families and again our social workers have been connecting our families to those supports one thing that's new to our district that we brought in this year is called heart haven outreach is a non-for-profit organization that's out of bowling brook it offers mentoring recreational activities support groups character and life skills tutoring community services and we are actually starting out with a pilot program at jfk middle school in plainfield east high school one of the things we're excited about that is that our last pilot program that we did with heart grove hospital was highly successful and actually did start at both of those schools so we're exciting to begin that partnership in a district in in addition

059to that we're excited to continue our other district initiatives which include our partnership with hart grove hospital that's expanded to all 31 of our schools and does provide support for individual students and psychiatric supports as well and in addition to that we're continuing our district and building level social emotional committees so as bob said it was a very detailed and lengthy presentation that will be posted with our committee documents but i'd be happy to share any additional information if anyone has questions thank you mrs griffin uh just a short note about that though uh what i'm hearing from our principals when we meet with them once a month is the social workers are phenomenal this year uh what they're doing with our students and our community so and with us with the staff itself so

060it's been a good investment uh when we hired the extra social workers this last year so it's working out last item mr kerber was the middle school student support program proposal um talking about tier one two and three the bridge program for 7th and 8th graders also we are offering regular algebra 1 classes at the middle schools all seven middle schools this coming school year dr wood do you want to go in a little more proposal on uh what their support proposal is with the tier one two and three um yes we will the first off these there's no cost to families for these programs uh one is a bridge program from students from fifth to sixth grade that will be in june for two weeks and more information about that will be coming out

061shortly for families and really the purpose is to help kids transition from fifth to sixth grade and learn current routines and such the other uh proposals and things that we're actually doing is our tier one intervention which is targeted support in the afternoons uh where our teachers meet with kids that are directed so that in the afternoon they can get help but then also not only putting it on the students to reach out but our students our teachers and staff to be proactive and engage those kids so they know they should show up at certain times so that's the first tier one that's happening now uh intervention help for kids after school the other is help at night where we have teachers that are tutors really from six to eight o'clock every monday through thursday

062where students in english math science social studies at the middle school can zoom with teachers to get additional help there and then our last proposal is our tier three intervention is as this year progresses and students that struggle uh we're having a summer school offering for those students at no cost to families that those students will be targeted by the school and it's a uh it's in-person instruction along with some edge annuity which is a an online support program um and that information will come out more and that's support for kids that have not been successful uh this uh you know semester especially but then also kids that are going into accelerated courses uh to make sure that they don't have gaps as well thank you dr appreciate your help next month we're looking at

063approval for resource purchase approval for the 30 days of play of the four textbooks also approval of foreign exchange and we'll be also have an opportunity to hear from our principals from jfk liberty eichelberger and creekside so that's my report by mr kruber thank you mr smith appreciate that kevin yes can i uh ask a little clarity please of either lane glen or mina to address the comment about um the google switching over to google some people might think that that means we're staying in remote learning next year can somebody kind of clear that up sure uh so the um google classroom this year of course has forced everybody to use our classroom management system which is google classroom we want to keep that going regardless of whatever mode we're in uh we need to

064make sure that our families and students and staff know how to operate within google classroom that environment is the same this g suite enterprise is really just some additional features with that um so it's really to make sure even moving forward uh whether an in-person environment full-time we still want to have our learning management system which at this point is is the google classroom thank you thank you thanks glenn yep no good point rod thank you for clarifying that all right moving on down to item nine for action personnel policy and administration ms drake yes thank you kevin um the ppa committee met this past wednesday at six o'clock um the first item was our community relations update in which tom hernandez highlighted two long-term community relations projects that have recently been completed one being

065a full long-form video chronicling the last year in the life of under coven 19 for district 202 and the second being the creation of an official district 202 app for both android and apple phones so they've been very busy trying to get some more programs for us and more more means of communication um the next item for us is the approval uh we have four approval items 9.02 it is my motion for the approval of policies and to place on 30-day public display policy 4 colon 8-0 accounting and audits policy 4 colon 9-0 student activity and fiduciary funds policy 7 colon 100 health eye and dental examinations immunizations and exclusion of students and policy nine colon zero one acceptable use of technology heather's motion second bob second charlie mr cook yes mr roby yes mr

066smith yes ms drake yes mr westfall yes mr claire berg yes item passes 9.03 it is my motion for the approval of custodial maintenance grounds and painting summer workers tentative time frame of 11 weeks from june 1st 2021 to august 13 2021 hourly rate of eleven dollars for workers and twelve dollars and twenty five cents for supervisors staffing would be one painting supervisor and twelve painting crew workers four maintenance helpers 20 custodial helpers and one ground supervisor and eight grounds helpers that's heather's motion second bob second charlie mr ruby yes mr smith yes ms drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr kerberg yes item passes 9.04 it is my motion for the approval of the memorandum of understanding between the board of education of plainfield community consolidated school district 202 and the plainfield

067association of support staff iea nea appendix b categorical s male courier change from 200-day 10-month position to a 238-day 12-month position heather's motion second bob seconds charlie mr smith yes miss drake yes mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr roby yes mr kerber yes item passes and 9.05 it is my motion for the approval of a memorandum of understanding for joliet public library membership covering city of joliet and juliet township students attending plainfield community consolidated school district 202 schools for the 2020 2021 school year that's heather's motion second bob second charlie mr westfall yes mr cook yes mr roby yes mr smith yes miss drake yes mr kerber yes item passes and that is everything from the ppa committee all right thank you heather appreciate that all right so we will jump down to item

069june 8th until july 29th at the wilco's career center we also entered into an agreement with artie of america which is will establish the arty education partnership program to help meet the growing and predicted future demand for dealership technicians the purpose of this program is to attract skilled technicians to the audi brand dealerships across the country the goal of the program is to increase awareness of the arti brand among students in the automotive program at each participating school so this will help our automotive kids that take classes at wilco hopefully pursue future employment and finally um we sent out an email tonight to the wilco parents advising them excuse me that every year wilco offers a scholarship to one qualifying senior from each of our high schools for continuing education or work equipment in a

07113.03 the return 2021 update dr april good evening thank you mr kerberg just a uh brief update much of the material was covered previously on where we're at with the return 2021 plan all grade levels have reported back everyone is excited things are going well um and the feedback that i've received from parents has been very positive certainly uh not only administratively board of education members everyone would like more days and more minutes um right now we're on hybrid and we will see what the results of our educational choice form which you alluded to earlier mentioned earlier mr kerber what those results show uh in addition to having all grade levels back we've started as many schools did high school athletics approximately three weeks ago give or take today began middle school our shortened middle

072school athletic practices and schedules our middle schools really play each other we amongst our seven middle schools so that made it easier for scheduling purposes uh regarding high school athletics we do allow spectators to family members per uh participant however there are a couple of sports such as badminton where so many participants are playing it doesn't allow for in-person spectators but for sports like basketball boys or girls basketball and also upcoming for volleyball there will or there have been two parents per student and also at the high school level we stream all of those activities so parents or other family members can view them as far as away athletic contests the southwest prairie conference uh came out with a statement that visiting fans are not allowed no matter whether it's us in plainfield high schools

073hosting or if we're visiting yorkville or joliet west or juliet central or anyone else in our conference so the educational choice forum as you mentioned mr kerberg will come out by the end of the day tomorrow if not sooner we encourage all parents to complete that and return that um the decisions that we make regarding increasing the number of days are really going to be driven by that it comes down to a simple math problem with the space that we have in our classrooms trying to formulate with the six foot social distancing guidelines on the number of students that we can accommodate safely and again as some people have pointed out those guidelines or guidance from the cdc are guidelines and they're not a mandate they're not a law that is absolutely correct however the

074board of education district administration our teachers association and support staff association have all agreed that we will follow that guidance put out by the cdc and reinforced by the illinois department of public health and the state board of education again nothing would make my job easier or probably members of the board of education or district administration uh easier than to just welcome all students back five days a week six and a half hours a day and let's go however as the cdc continues to recommend that six foot guidance we do and will continue to follow that updates regarding the results of the educational choice form and the direction that the district heads regarding scheduling will continue to be pushed out by mr hernandez and his outstanding communications and community relations department and will be posted

075on our website as appropriate that concludes uh the return to 2020 21 update thank you dr april um any questions from the board for the administration on the return plan here um middle school athletics are parents allowed to uh attend those events sorry it's under the same uh two per person as allowable for the depending upon the sport of the contest yes thank you anything else all right thank you dr april appreciate that all right uh we have no unfinished business so we are going to jump down to item 15 which is the appointment of the new board of education member so um with us this evening we have theresa howard collins and um 15.01 i am looking for a motion to approve the seating of the new board of education appointee teresa howard collins
