We'd like to call this meeting to order. Uh we have already said the pledge during the uh hearing uh time. So we're going to go ahead and um get to some business here. First of all, um my name is Michael Geneo. I am not Dave Merrill. Uh Dave is uh having a family vacation up in uh Wyoming area, I believe. Uh big family deal. So please excuse Dave. Uh he could not be here tonight. Uh we also are going to start off uh tonight on not so light of a note. Um Diana Butler uh passed away this week uh or excuse me, last week. And uh we'd like to just take a moment to to recognize her again. Uh she spent 45 years serving this district. Uh she was my principal when I moved here

in 1982 uh in sixth grade and I'm not young anymore. Um so that just shows you the how long she's been here and and served on the school board as well. So, um, definitely going to be missed. And so, we'd like to have a moment of silence, um, in honor of Diana Butler. Thank you. All right, the next item on the agenda is uh we have another retirement. We thought we were done with all the retirees uh but we have one more. Steve Murphy is retiring. Bittersweet for sure. Uh but we'd like to take a moment as the governing board and recognize uh Steve for his years of dedication to the district. Uh I think we have a couple of folks who'd like to say some words. Um as Steve uh gets honored and hopefully

embarrassed a little bit. Steve, come up here. Oh, I can't tell you what to do. All right. My name is Brent Garsh. I've worked with Steve for a couple years now here. Um, couple facts about Steve. Um, started here in 2009. uh started as a custodian and then worked his way into maintenance and then got promoted eventually to a maintenance supervisor and then finally to maintenance custodial supervisor. Um just like to uh thank you for a few things. Um I know the school would like to thank you for your your work ethic. Um, we'd also like to uh, you know, in in maintenance would like to thank you for your sense of humor. Uh, Steve's had to endure relentless short jokes. Um, also jokes about his horsey rides he takes with the sheriff's posi. and

um going through his uh laughing at his one more scoop story, which if you get the chance, you should ask him about that one. Um would also like thank you for your knowledge and skills in maintenance. We I kind of feel like uh we need to know a little bit about everything and we know everything about nothing. Um uh I personally like to thank you for your guidance and direction and uh I think everyone would like to wish that you have fun in your next chapter in life and above all thank you for spending the last 15 years with your Blue Ridge family. I love [Applause] to get some pictures with the with the team. All right, Steve. So, we have this nice plaque for you. So, I'm going to read it. Um, in honor

of your exceptional dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the students, staff, and community of the Blige School District, your pride in our school, your attention to detail, your willingness to go above and beyond, which you totally do, made a lasting difference. Our campus reflects your dedication. Your leadership has set the standard for excellence. He's very popular. We will miss your steady presence, your care for every project, and the heart you have brought to this district every single day. You have such a huge heart, Steve. You will help anyone, anytime, anywhere, and it's amazing trait that you have, and you're going to be so missed. You um are always available to come deal with the pump house. Um, and any kind of water break, any kind of thing on the weekend, making sure that the

facilities are clean for the people that are renting, make sure that the facilities are up to snuff for the kids when they get here. So, we just grab this. We appreciate everything you've done for Blige, and you're going to be so missed. And I'll be right behind you on the way to Maine. Thank you all so much. [Applause] I just went out for something different. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure Sa Sandy will be kicking you out of the house, I'm sure, a few times. So, all right. Thank you, S photo photo op. If any anybody working at maintenance wants to get in the picture with Eve. All right. Uh, next up is uh item two, the consent agenda. Is there anything that any board members would like to move out of the consent agenda? Um,

yeah, Mike. I'd like to ask to have item 26 and 27 pulled out for right now. Okay. Item 26 and 27 pulled out of the con uh consent agenda. Do we need a vote on that, Mary? Okay. Okay. So, that so that's going to be pulled out. So, uh leaving everything else in the consent agenda. Anybody else have any other items they want to pull out of the consent agenda for discussion? Okay. Do we have a motion to approve the consent agenda? So move. Okay. Margaret moves to approve the consent agenda. So all in favor of approving the consent agenda after pulling out items 2.6 and 2.7 signify. I I Okay, that passes unanimously. So now we will go to item 2.6, which is the recommendation to approve fundraisers. Um we have a couple of

fundraiser um items on there. Student council. I'm assuming at the high school would like to sell cookie dough to benefit homecoming week and teacher appreciation week. Um, anybody have any questions about that? I assume that that will start when the school year starts. Yeah. Right. Okay. Anybody? Okay. And then uh cross country would like to start selling tickets for a family dinner on August 1st. I know Coach Atkinson is here. If anybody has any questions about the um what type of dinner? High. Oh, thanks. I'm loud enough. Everybody tells me. Um it'll be in conjunction with the High Mountain Half. I've talked to Hayden and Rhonda and they're going to get the word out to out of town folks and um yeah, we're back and forth between Pasta Bar, which is the cliche thing to

do for runners, but we also talked about doing the Cafe Rio, which is a little different than what we usually have. So, that's where we are and that'll just help pay for out of town, our meat expenses, and hopefully an overnight as well. Okay. Mr. Rolloloff will like four tickets, please. You got it. Uh, anybody else have any questions about that? Okay. And then we have the high school boys soccer team uh money dolly kickoff, which is selling fan gear uh that they're going to be selling throughout the season. and field banners. I don't believe our boys soccer coach is here. No. Okay. Um, anybody have any questions about that? And did we have any other fundraiser items that we needed to approve? Yeah. Oh, Is there any information about the field banners um as

far as the public should know about buying them? I'm assuming that's is that advertising banners? Is that what they're going to do? Like sponsorship banners? Do you know, Ryan? For the field banners? Okay. So, did they do we need to say contact? Yeah. I don't your business would like if somebody would like to participate maybe. Yeah, probably contact Ryan or Dustin Kloff probably about that. Anybody who would like to participate, they can contact either Dustin or I. Um, we did also just get some sponsors to donate uh jump pit covers as well. So on the track there, if you're standing in the stands, you've seen all the sand that blows out of the long jump and the triple jump pits. So we got new covers for those. Those were donated from from local businesses as

well. Yeah, the jumpers will appreciate the things that blow into the sand pit over the course of the year. So yes, thank you guys for that. Um, and so the girls, sorry, girls soccer team has an item. Yeah, we just wanted to get approval for a calendar fundraiser. It's basically we give them a month long calendar and people donate for the day that they sign up for. So, if they pick the 17th, it's $17 and so forth. It's just a great way for the girls to earn money for the program, but it doesn't require any outside donors that are taking a percentage of the profits. And then the girls will be able to buy more equipment, take in another tournament, and possibly get further training in the summers going forward. Okay. We will probably have

to put that on the August agenda. Um, but we can talk about When were you hoping to start that? Whenever you can put it on the August agenda, that's So, yeah, we'll put that on the August agenda for sure. I did submit this on June 28th. So, just was curious why. Okay. So, we'll we'll we'll Yeah, we'll talk afterwards. Um, anybody have any other questions about the fundraisers? Um, can't hear. Britney, do you want to She's asking about boys soccer. Yes. Sorry. Yeah. We haven't approved it yet, but it's We went We discussed it. Yeah. Okay. Did you have a question or No. If you have any questions for me, I'm here. Gotcha. Okay. I don't think so. Okay. Okay. Uh, do we have a motion to approve the fundraisers as listed in the agenda?

I move. Siana moves and Margaret seconds. All in favor? I I I passes unanimously. We will move on to item 2.7. Uh we have some donations that um have been uh given to the school. First, Janine Piser donated a Delta table saw valued in the amount of $3,000 to benefit the Fab Lab. Uh which is that's awesome. Also dangerous. So hopefully we got that part taken care of. Um anybody have any questions or comments about that? No. Okay. Um, and then we have uh Kelly from Invenergy. I will not butcher your last name. Um, who is donating $10,000 to support the Blue Ridge High School robotics program. Um, most of those dollars will be focused on the Solar Race Cart program. Um, so I know Kelly is here. Uh, first of all, Wow. Um, but

let's let's give her a microphone. Amen. Um, and Kelly, would you mind coming up and just kind of talking about a little bit about what maybe um, brought you to to make this kind of investment? Great. Thank you very much for pulling this item off of the agenda uh, the consent agenda. Kelly Zevski, I work for a company called Inveny. We're an energy development company uh internationally um known we build solar, battery, storage, wind, um geothermal, thermal projects. Here in Navajo County, we are actually working on a project south of Joseph City. Through my engagements in the community, I've gotten to um join the Arizona Works Development Board. through that connection with Adam, he mentioned uh about the Fab Lab, in particular the solar car race campaign. So about a month ago or so, uh

I had the opportunity to visit with the students and uh telling me about the project and what to expect and what they're doing and how the racing comes about and what they're doing in Tucson and how they're doing problem solving. And I'm not quite as excited as they were, but I'm getting there. Um, and it was a great opportunity for us at Invenergy to find a way to support the community in a manner in which is wanted by the community instead of just throwing money finding something that really makes an impact. And after spending about an hour and a half with the students, I think this will make an impact. And I can't wait to see how they come out in Tucson this year. So, I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have

for me. Wow. Thank you. Thank you. Um I'm sure they they shared with you the success that they had this last this last spring. Yes. And and I'm I can only imagine how much this will benefit them because I know that finances were tough and they still did very well on a limited budget. So So thank you so much for that. Yes. Anybody have any questions for Kelly? No. Thank you though for letting us know. It's amazing. Good. Thank you very much. Have a great evening. Okay. Yeah, we need to put a little We're we're gonna have a little uh little logo on the car and it says in energy in Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Awesome. Okay. Um so we can now uh do we have a motion to recommend to approve those two donations? I

still move. Okay, we have a move motion. Second and Margaret seconds. All in favor say I. I. I motion approves I mean sorry passes unanimously and so we will move on to item three on the agenda. Um the business part of the meeting and so our first item 3.1 is to recommend to approve the truth and taxation increase in primary property taxes as uh we had our hearing earlier this evening. Um, Miss Hoffmeer presented that for us and so are there any questions before we do our roll call vote? No. Okay. So, we'll go down the line and uh you will ask a yay or nay on the approving uh of that increase in primary taxes. So, uh Margaret Gabby, yay. Yay. Siliana Steins, yay. Bridget Wood and I vote yay. Also, Michael Gil. So,

that also passes unanimously. Item 3.2 is a motion or I'm sorry, is a recommendation to approve and adopt the expenditure budget that was discussed earlier this evening as well for fiscal year 2026. Um, I'm sure John that was probably one of the first things you got to dig into a little bit as you're in your first few weeks on the job, but anything that you'd like to say about it or do we have any questions about it? You have anything? No, I think uh in putting together the budget, I uh you know, we recognize the need in this community to spend our money wisely and to uh you know, just make wise decisions so our kids can excel and use our money in the best way possible. And so we're happy to have Miss Hoffmire

on board and um and uh leading the charge with with the budget and as we get more information, like I said, we want to continue to use it in the way to drive student achievement in this district. Amen to that. Okay. Any other questions or comments? Okay. Do we have a motion to approve and adopt the expenditure budget for fiscal year 2026? Okay. Bridgetette moves. Do we have a second? I second. Siana with a second. All in favor say I. I. That passes unanimously. Next up, uh, is our recommendation to approve the high school course content book for this coming school year. Um, Ryan Grace is here and he can answer any questions uh from any of the board members. Do we have any discussion on the course content book? Yeah. Ryan, do you have

anything you'd like to say about it? Sure, absolutely. So, um, I don't think all of y'all have seen the years past. I know, Miss Gabby, you've seen a lot of them at this point. Uh, we shortened it this year. We took out some stuff that actually goes into the student handbook. Um, we also implemented an athletics handbook this year for, uh, student athletes and extra and all extracurriculars. And so some of that non academic related things we pulled out of the the course content book so that it kind of streamlined its real purpose which is to tell us you know uh the that graduating class what their requirements are um in it you would see and it it took a little bit of of Megan and I to put our minds together and figure it

out because you're looking at something that affects kids four years down the road. Um, and so it it may say this year on it, but it affects these kids in this year and this graduating class. And and uh um they end up dropping down in the number of required credits by the state of Arizona by the time that they graduate from 24 to 22 if I remember that right. Um right now we are still hunting a band director. So, if you know anybody that plays in the band or an instrument or knows how to read music or really wants to learn, you know, we're kind of getting to that point. Um, and is also a quick learner. Uh, our CTE class, our digital photograph, no, not digital photography class, um, graphics class that Mr. Peterson

used to teach. We, uh, we have a person that would be able to transition to that. Currently, he is slated to be teaching chemistry. And if we can find a chemistry teacher, he would move over and give us that that class as well in graphics. So, um, but if you have any other questions, we're happy to answer them. I'll answer them the best that I can. You need three teachers to fill your course content book. Yes, ma'am. Well, two two we need two teachers to fill the courses that we had last year, which includes band um and uh graphics, which CTE course. Yeah. So, it's it's a lot shorter. I think it's like 63 pages shorter this year than it was last year. Um, which is which should be great for us to get it

out in kids' hands a little bit easier, too. Yeah, that was a good call. Okay, any other questions? John, you got you got anything to add to that or No, I just want I had a chance to review it and I want to commend uh Mr. Grace and Miss Penrod. I think they've been diving into a lot of the course content and and coach Kloff too for diving into some of those handbooks to make sure we're all cleaned up and ready to go for the school year. So, I want to commend them on that's a lot of man-hour to get that right where they want it to be. So, thank you for doing that. All right. Thank you, Mr. Grace. If Could I have just a second? Sure. I apologize. I'm not entirely sure why

they're all here, but their names are on it. And normally we try to say something about them if they show up because for our new hires. Yes. So, we have Coach Hamlin is back coaching girls soccer. She was on the agenda last month. Yeah. Um the Harrises are back here in the corner. Britney Harris is going to be our girls basketball coach. Um and her husband is is Are you coaching JV or just helping with the varsity? Just helping wherever he's needed. Um, so they've been around and then Miss uh Shannon has had her girls or her cross country team in this week as well, right? Numbers are smaller this year. I heard a number that we had lost 16 seniors. Is that right? 17 seniors. So, we're going to try to replace uh as

many of those as we can. Um, and so that's that's a pretty big cross country team. Yes. Um, and then we have coach Chava as our boys soccer. Boys assistant. Excellent. So, okay, perfect. So, we've had uh students in every single day this week and and for most of the summer. Uh, I'm on the Remind for girls soccer. I get the 9:00 am be there with your cleats on at 6:00 a.m. or the the 900 pm be there at 6 a.m. messages. Um, so we've had a lot of good work getting put in by our fabulous coaching staff. Awesome. So, yeah. Yeah, we're very very happy to have all those those coaches. So, thank you guys. Thank you. Yes, sir. Any other comments or questions on that? I just think that we need to work

hard as a district to get as many people attending these games as we can and try to find out ahead of time. You know, the board especially needs the list of games for even for the month, you know, and have it published and try to work up to having more people at the games. For those of us not on Instagram. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Facebook is okay, but I kept getting it after after it was over with. Okay. No, I think we we really need to boost the community involvement in the school this year and I'd really like to see these for fall sports be well attended. Yeah, absolutely. Thank you, Margaret. Okay. Anything else? Any other comments? I'm excited to see what our our new uh new coaching hires. We have new principal hires.

We'll talk about that in a little bit. Uh but uh we are I think ready for a motion and a second uh to approve the high school course content book for the upcoming school year. Anybody want to move for that? So moved. Okay. Margaret and Sylviana with the second. All in favor say I. I. That passes unanimously. So thank you guys again for that work on that. Uh, next up is item four on the agenda, which is the superintendent's report, district update, and all kinds of information there. And we'll give John I I will just say real quick since since this is John's first superintendent report, we just want to welcome uh John Roloff. He's our new superintendent for those of you that might may not know. Um, I'm excited. I'm exc I'll talk more

about that later, but uh we'll let you talk first, John. So, thank you for being here and take it away. Well, I'm really excited. Thank you. And thank you for the warm welcome, Mr. DNA and governing board. And warm. Did you Did you That was on purp. The warm welcome. Yeah. Okay. You know that. I like that. I like that pun. Um, first of all, this is a July board meeting. So, the fact that we have coaches here in July, uh, I want to appreciate you guys and and I think that's already a good start and that shows, uh, I think, you know, Miss Gabby, we will have some good fall seasons coming up here. Uh, second of all, I want to recognize we had administrative meetings on June 17th, 18th, and yesterday. We're going

to be doing a a book study this year. It's called The Heroes Within. And one of the things that one of our core beliefs is is that all means all. And so how do we reach all of our children here in Blige? And I just want to say I'm I'm really happy with the administrative staff that we have here. I know there's a little bit of change from the different school sites and different positions, but I think we have an A+ team and um you know, we're building a new foundation with almost a whole new team, but I think we have great people here to start that. Uh in addition uh we had a big team attend the law leadership conference in uh Flagstaff so that we can make sure we're doing everything the right

way. There was someone who led that. You guys might have heard of him before. His name's Dr. Wright and so I don't know if you guys have ever heard of him before but yeah he led that and that was a really good conference where we got to sit in with some groups and do some scenarios. Um I heard you Mr. Mr. Gil, commit me for the cross country fundraiser, but you already had me at Cafe Rio. I mean, I don't know if I can do four. Is it an all you can eat or do I really need to buy four tickets just to We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. Okay. Um, also, uh, I want to thank Steve once again for all of your dedication to Blue Ridge over all the years. You

know, you and I have had a great official two days of working together. So, I just, you know, it was it was amazing. Those were some of the two greatest days of my life. And so, I appreciate that. Um, you know, uh, in addition, so some of these other bullet points here, we have some upcoming nights. So, we want to make sure you guys are aware because I know the board has expressed, uh, interest in being involved. And so, we're going to have our back to school week on August 4th where all of our teachers report back. and that's before our students. And so we're going to have orientation throughout that week. Get get everybody ready up and ready to go. Give them time to get their classrooms ready. Um we'll be doing our back

to school nights for the um junior high and the high school right on on August 5th from 5 to 6:30 and the high school from 5:37. Stagger that because some people have multiple children. And then Wednesday, August 6 will be the elementary school. And then school starts August 11th, just over a month away. So, we're getting excited that we have lots of things going on for that. And with that being said, the last thing is I want to thank you guys for the donations um for the Fab Lab and the solar cars. That's amazing. And you know, a community that supports education. That's that's awesome thing that we we're happy to have here in Blige. So, thank you. So, that's it for me. All right. Very good. Um, I just I do want to just

just take a moment and and you guys can can chime in. Um, but it's I I've been, as I mentioned earlier, part of this district in some way, shape, or form since 1982, and I can't remember a time where we had so much turnover in our administrative teams uh between superintendent, business manager, principles. So, Megan, thank you for staying consistent. Yes. Um but but we you know we have new new principles at in each building and obviously in the in the uh district office. But I think it's a great opportunity. Um it's a great opportunity to uh maybe do some things uh fresh and new and and uh continue to move Blige in a in a direction of excellence. Um and so I know that's something that I'm I'm definitely committed to. That's why I'm

I'm here. Um, and so I'm hoping that we can work with our new administrators and and Mr. Rollolof and and it goes from coaches and custodians all the way up. Um, and so I just hope that we um can get started on a great foot and just move in a great direction. I'm excited. I'm excited for for what we have uh coming up. And um I know we have some some hurdles, some some financial hurdles and some and some enrollment hurdles, but um but I think we can we can make some improvements there and and move this in the right direction. Real quick, can I respond to that? I uh I think maybe with some of the enrollment hurdles and financial hurdles, I think, you know, we take this one one piece at a time

and and people want to be in Blige and I think some of those enrollment hurdles, people will come back because I think Blige will be and is the place to be, but so I'm excited for that. I don't know if the maintenance staff was here before all of you were here before when we were talking about how nice the East Campus looks and smells. Thank you so much for spending the time doing that because it looks awesome. A lot of the parents were commenting, making comments on Facebook and us the teachers, too. So, it's a big job. It's a lot of square footage. Anybody else? No. Chris, a month. Welcome. How's how's everything going for the junior high? You guys are I know we didn't have official reports or anything, but Can you come up

here? No, it's going really good. Come on up because I don't know if everybody knows knows who you are yet. This is Chris Johnson. He's our new junior high principal. Great. No, things are going well. Um, diving in and uh rolling up my sleeves and uh so far so good. We're we're uh really digging in and trying to plan some new things and just like you said, you know, fresh ideas and thoughts and you know, we just want what's best for our kids. We want all the students, you know, all means all. We want all the students to have every opportunity and that's the goal and that's why we're going to work hard. Awesome. Thank you. Thank you. Miss Butler is here as well. She's trying to hide back there. Um, is there anything any

updates or anything going on at the elementary school? No. No, we're good. We're good. You're going to have to talk, so you might as well just get used to it. No, I didn't prepare anything. I wasn't told. But no, we're doing great. Um my assistant is out for a couple more weeks, but we have a lot of things planned and a lot of lot of positive to look forward to. We had a couple interviews today and um our teachers that were there on their summer break were just excited about the new new things that are we have to look forward to. So things are good at the elementary. I can only imagine though starting school August 11th. That's like that's a big woo. Yes, for sure. Yeah. It's a It's a couple year It's a

couple days. Oh, it's at least a week. Oh, we used We start July 31st one year. I know. Oh, that was too early. Yeah. So, thank you, Ka. Um, Mr. Grace, anything else you want to add before we because that's because we're pretty much done. So, No, sir. We are, like I said, we're missing a couple teachers at the high school, but we're still working hard on that one and and getting some stuff lined out and and uh we're rocking and rolling. We got people in place. We brought uh Sophia over from the district office and she's installed as of today um at the high school to do uh fundraisers and school finance and things like that for us at the high school. Oh, excellent. Excellent. And then of course we have uh Courtney Hoffmier

as our new business manager. Is that your official title? I don't know. Okay. Business manager. So, anything you'd like to say about that? No, I'm excited for the I'm just excited for the opportunity. I've um Miss Stuggdale has been a fantastic teacher. Um she's been giving me a lot of support. Um and and so far she has been on call pretty much 24 hours a day. So, she's been super supportive um as I'm, you know, as I'm diving into this new role. So, uh, very excited about the year. Excellent. All right. Well, I think that that kind of hits everything and and here we go. We're going forward. Um, our next item on the agenda is a call to the public. Um, public's invited to make comments. Um, that is not on the agenda. We

ask that you keep those comments to about 3 minutes. Um, these are not uh things that we can take that we can talk about as board members tonight. Um, but we can uh direct staff to look into any items that anybody has uh for the call to the public. Does anybody anybody care to speak for call the public? Yeah. And when you come up um to the podium, if you please state your name and maybe he needs a paper filled up. Uh we got to have Yeah, we got to have a little form you for you to fill out. Uh no problem. So, I'm Adam Dryden, the executive director of Arizona Work Northeastern Arizona, the local workforce development board. Um, and just to put it out there, I know there's been a lot of stuff

in the news about what's happening with workforce with our current administration. And I'm here to say that we are funded for a year. Okay, I want to dispel the rumors that Arizona Work is going to be working with youth and adults for this next year. What I can't guarantee is what's going to happen next year. Um, youth is what's really up for grabs to put it out there clearly, and we don't know how that's going to look. Um, but we do have some big things on the agenda for us, which is Zeni Home. Uh, this should be in everybody's ear and their mind as we build our curriculum because they eventually want to hire 1400 people and it is the old paper mill, but Xolo and in this area Pinetop Lakeside will be affected. Yeah.

Uh, in a good positive way. Uh, we are looking at granting uh for a work experience for youth. It's one of the programs that I'm initiating with any home to where our youth when they their senior year they can start that process. Hey, can I go see what it's like? What can I do? It's engineering. It's technology automation. It's going to be very big. So, just as the director, I've never addressed a school board other than Xolo and I think I need to kind of spread it around.
