004thoughtful kind and patient person with everyone and brings Positive Vibes wherever he goes he is an absolute pleasure to work with and I would go so far as to say this is my favorite part Zeppelin that just by virtue of who he is often gives more energy to the adults around him than we give to him and so that says quite a bit he is such a positive energy on our campus um and a fierce soccer player as well he always makes sure that his table is the very first table cleaned so they can get out there and start playing soccer um so we love having him at BL Junior [Applause] High all right the high school's turn kayn and Indian come forward [Applause] please so kayn is the high school student of month for

009school and the junior high so this is a shared teacher that we have between myself and Mrs hoffmeier um I've had the privilege of working with Mr wat Cott in the capacity of you know principal and teacher for the last I don't even know how many years since 06 so do the math 19 years math guy yeah sounds good so it's been a long time so we actually were in this building here and and he's moved around wherever we went he is the one that's always going to step up and do whatever needs to be done if there's anything like there's new classes that we created he jumped in he's I know he's done the coding at the Junior High um he's he sponsored our Spanish club trips when the junior high went to California
010to the valley anybody that can be on a train with Junior High kids all night long like deserves some kind of recognition and and he's done that for years and now I get to finish my career at the high school with having Mr wat cot again with me so it's been a treat and a pleasure having him back at the high school or back with me and to see him continue all the the great things that he does with the kids with the staff he's our one of our Tech experts so he helps the other teachers just a a fabulous teacher and very welld deserving of a be Star Award so congratulations Mr wat Cott for those of you that don't know he he's my nephew so that's why I'm a little so um he

013guys don't know FBLA is the student run Organization for the business program um and it is the largest business ctso in the world with over 230,000 students um throughout the world there's kids in China and Canada and all across the United States and our mission is to inspire and prepare students to become community minded minded Business Leaders in a global society and we do that through um relevant career preparation and Leadership experience so on January 22nd we took 18 students down to the valley we competed at ASU and in a lot of different events and this competition had 642 competitors and eight of our students brought home 11 medals so we we thought that was pretty cool um diari Ivan placed first in Computer Applications Jesse Str placed first in Human Resources management I placed
014first in client services and future business leader Candace Cabrera placed second in intro to business communication Ellie Lawler placed second in intro to parliamentary procedure Gian gerardi and Elliot Woods both placed third in broadcast journalism Cooper flake Place third in future business educator and Elliot placed again third in intro to FBLA and then we also had um a like a second place award that we did down there for the whole chapter um that was business graphics and Jesse stop and Aspen misola did that for our chapter then um out of all of these high schools we were actually able to play second in the online testing tournament which we did that in October November and that was really Mrs Blake she encouraged Ed us to take lots of tests and prepare for those and so
015that's a reflection of her success as an adviser and um upcoming April 1st through 3rd we'll be traveling down to Tucson and we're taking 13 members and we'll go up against all the high schools in the state so we're excited for that and expecting to have a few National competitors so we'll probably see you again if we need to travel out of state and um we're grateful for your continued support of fbl [Applause] would uh anybody else like to speak and express your opinion of what uh you felt this year a spokes I'll speak okay In fairness I have um two freshmen we had three freshman place at regionals which that's amazing that's amazing and um of our eight people that took medals away um only one was a returning competitor so I've got a
016lot of new students so they're just doing amazing um so very proud of them they're not quite ready to speak yet but they will be next time thank you job well done appreciate it you represent us very well thank [Applause] you all right looks like the next item on this agenda is the consent agenda so are there any items in the consent agenda that you'd like to take out or any questions or comments about anything from 2.1 to 2.6 if not we have a can we have a motion to uh I'll move to uh the consent agenda approve yeah approve the consent agenda as presented thank you I have a motion from Michael gral I have a second from I'll second it sylvana um any further discussion not we need to vote all in favor

018agenda I move to recommend the new I have a motion from Sylvan I have a second from Michael all in favor I that also appears to be unanimous so item number 3.2 recommendation to approve early graduation for one of the high school students um Mr Webb do you want to explain that thank you we had a student who um at senior early planning early in the year they knew that the family was going to be moving down to the valley after Christmas she wanted to be able to finish here at Blue Ridge so we allowed her to be able to complete some classes in order to finish all of her credits to to finish up with with blidge and our academics so she could be a blue Rich graduate and and still move down to
019the valley not have to worry about checking into another high school and she completed everything that was required will she'll she want to come and walk this fall I mean yes she she does want to come back and walk with her peers and we'll we'll let her do that good deal any questions or comments about item 3.2 so can we have a recommendation to approve item 3.2 the early graduation one of our high school students I will recommend to approve uh early graduation for that high school student that's pretty awesome thank you can we have a second second second from all in favor say I or raise your hand I raise my hand thanks I just making fun thank you that also appears to be unanimous uh item 3.3 recommendation to approve out ofate travel
020for um coaches to attend the Glazier coach Clinic Dr Wright or did would you like Mr uh or Kimberly or uh Dustin or ad is would you come and explain what's going on there thank you thanks for having me so um one of the professional development things that we offer um for football is Glazier is a renowned uh business that runs across the United States and they they put coaching clinics throughout several major cities from the period of like February through late April for coaches to go and receive professional development opportunities so we provided ways to where we work for the Glazier Company to pay for our rooms and our food so we can be there we introduce speakers we set up technology we interact with other coaches we're able to sit in on these
021and get ceu credits we'll be able to get 24 uh SE hours uh throughout the course of Friday and Saturday and uh Thursday evening so something that we do uh we try to offer for our coaches any questions on that any questions or comments I think it's a great idea especially not having to pay yeah free is good is always good it's it's awesome that they offer that for us and you know we get to meet the coaches that are there that are doing the presentations the clinicians that come in and we get opportunities to set up their equipment see a lot of things that they do with their programs we almost get a little more inside information and uh get personal contact information from them so it's it's a neat opportunity so you and
022who else is going Eric helmerson and uh Chris Johnson those are the two and then some of our other coaches are going to try to to do it on their free time over the they're going to leave Friday and go that evening and Saturday and come home Sunday morning so on their own I believe Brandon newom and uh Brian White are both going to try to do that for the Friday Saturday part of the clinic great yeah free is great yep appreciate that any other questions not we have a motion to accept item 3.3 the out ofate travel for um the Glazier coacher CL coaches clinic on February 20th through 22nd in Las Vegas we have a motion I would like to recommend that have a motion from Michael have a second from sylvana all
023in favor say I I thank you item 3.4 recommendation to oh this is pretty neat kimly you want to explain your out of state travel I know this is quite an award sure thank you explain what's going on there president Merill and governing board this is a a Leadership Retreat with the association that Dr R just mentioned that I'm the Treasure of all expenses are paid by them I'm just asking that I be allowed to go it's very exciting in Tampa and the hotel did not get uh demolished from the hurricane yeah I think this is quite a honor and uh got to say we're going to really miss you both uh when you retire at the end of the school year we'll carry on we'll carry on we might have to call you every
024now and then to hold our hands right so we have a motion to recommend item 3.4 that is the out of state travel for Dr Wright and Miss dugdale to go to the um what is it the Arizona School business officials board uh conference leadership Forum I got it there we so we have a motion to accept item 3.4 yeah I so move I have motion from Michael second from Sylvan all in favor say I I I all right that also looks to be unanimous next item is 3.5 a recommendation to approve the lease agreement renewal Dr Wright do you want to explain that I think it's the same as we've had in the past with this great partner it is it is and I think there's a representative here tonight would you would you
025like to say a few things I've got a coin we'll flip it okay I I'll I'll say this on the organization's behalf it helps and their Head Start program helps a good number of children every year get prepared for school it is a federally funded program uh this does not cost us anything to provide the space the space was already there uh they provide their own food they've probably invested 150,000 into the facility or more maybe closer to a quarter of a million over the last four years or so they've been an outstanding tenant anytime that we have uh drill they cooperate snow days they cooperate in short anything anything we need they've been an outstanding partner so I would ask the board if we could please renew their lease under the existing terms and
026that they're over in the old elementary school that yes sir multi-purpose the old Elementary yes sir been a great partner I appreciate you have any questions or comments from the board so can we have a motion to uh approve the the lease agreement with the uh Northern Arizona Council government n hog head start for the upcoming U period of time that this lease I don't have the dates on this but just as it's been submitted uh can I have a motion to accept I move that we accept I have a motion from sylvana I have a second I'll second second from Michael all in favor say I I all right that also looks to be unanimous Dr W we'll turn the balance pretty much the balance of this meeting over to you for a district
027update thank you sir uh one point of clarification I wasn't invited to go to Florida so I don't get to go with Kimberly she she she's going on her own as a treasurer no I'm just teasing I just let you know you want to be around the be counter no I don't well you're my favorite be counter though but several thousand of them that's too much so a couple of things we have just generally in the district update we're in the testing phase in March next month we'll begin testing March and April uh our teachers have been working hard to make sure these students are prepared it and others are are preparing to make sure that we have these tests administered appropriately it's quite an undertaking that begins next month spring break will be the
02810th through the 14th the district office as always will be closed during that time and we have spent significant time with local and I would say local and County Law Enforcement and fire departments preparing for the AAL a wildfire event and so we've we've kind of landed on three different types of status that we would operate under one is if there's a clear danger there's a clear danger in our region and it's very likely to make it to our campus we're going to go on our itm schedule we won't congregate we won't have kids come to school and we'll do itm as long as it's needed hopefully that'd be a fairly short duration the next status would be we arrive at School everybody gets settled in and the fire begins and it's close enough that
029we're worried we do an early release and that would be an orderly in orderly fashion take us about an hour and a half hour and 45 minutes to perform and to execute that fully to get kids home that's the second option the third would be there's not time to evacuate there's not time to have an early release in the evacuation in the appoint of evacuation in general we're going to go to the community of snowflake there they have numerous school buildings and large Church facilities with restroom facilities kitchens and they could serve as a a place for people for a long period of time if we had to and the geography and Landscape lends itself less risky for fire I mean obviously anything can become a fuel I've learned way too much about F fire
030wildfires and fighting them the last three or four months it's been principally what I've been worried about so if we evacuated that's where it'd be we'd have more information on that the our key term and most important is to keep our students and staffs safe the fire department felt confident that if we had the shelter in place and there wasn't time to dismiss or to evacuate that the junior high is the safest facility All Things Considered there's a bit of a natural barrier there there is a large forest in the back but it's a block construction and there's not immediate folage around it we're reducing a couple of trees that are near that kind way to say we're taking them out and we could have this campus the East Campus the main campus the district
031office the high school and all of the surrounding preschool naog the church anybody that needed shelter could congregate we would hold up to 2,000 people at the junior high again it has the facilities that we need to be there if we had to be there for an extended period of time we could get that accomplished and done in a quick hurry and so that will be a drill that we'll have in the spring once we're done with testing we're going to move everybody over here to the Junior High in an orderly fashion and then we'll meet back and we'll determine how can we do that better then the next phase will be let's work on a an organized evacuation what does that look like there's a couple of things that are tough uh that we
032we don't have enough buses to evacuate everybody at once not with 88 kids on a bus but if there's danger you can put 125 kids on a bus if you had to and in that instance uh everybody agrees the job is to get everyone out safely I think it is most probable that we'll have an early release I think that's probably the most likely thing that could happen because we won't start school if we have a worry of fire but right across the street is a lot of fuel behind us is a lot of fuel to our North to our South there's a lot of fuel and so if uh if it continues if the dryness persists if it continues to be dry and we get a lot of wind and we had a lightning
033strike or some other form we would we would have to evacuate and that's our very last choice because we have reunification a lot of other things that we have to kick in please to for the board's edification we've been working on this for probably a year and a half on reunification everybody that has done it that has practiced it said a couple things one the goal is to get everybody from A to B and to do that in a safe and orderly fashion we are we have identified that we need additional supports for our exceptional students Megan's been working tirely lessly to formulate a plan to make sure we have all the students identified and the level of support required for each students some students will require three or four adults a couple of whom
034are strong enough to lift the student and transport them physically others need medical items and they we have children with feeding tubes we have children that have you know pretty significant medical needs we want to make sure these are met and we're having we'll have further talks about how to have those children evacuated safely and orderly and then the next phase is to get everybody else safely on a bus and out of here part of that effort has been Kimberly's been working with transportation and Justin and others to make sure that we have enough drivers um and people that are trained to drive a bus in the event of emergency and they're qualified to the extent they won't they won't have a certification but in an emergency situation it's let's save lives they'll be able
035to operate the bus and get the kids to safety once the children are there that kicks in a whole new plan and uh we're we have a fairly good idea of what that looks like it's organized chaos but kids are safe and we want to divide them along needs and grade level and then the reunification process would begin after the law enforcement and fire say it's safe to come in and all that sounds like it's going to be real organized uh I pray we don't have to do that if we did it it would take a long time and it would be really tough and parents are can be very frustrated but if we get everybody back alive and well they'll be fine and they'll be glad when the dust settles in this case fire
036but uh we are prepared and we're getting we're not going to just stop there we want to go to the next iteration to make sure that we can make it as organized and comfortable as we can for the kids and our staff are there any questions on those I think that's the the main thing I wanted to make sure that the board had that information and we're free to talk about this or to ask questions as it's on the agenda are there any questions or concerns or comments okay did you have Mr grenal did you have some uh just just are you you're going to practice the evacuation to the junior high but not the one to snowflake correct okay correct yeah that'll that'll learn you'll learn a lot from that yeah yes sir we
037and we have had a we did an evacuation drill with staff without students from the main camp Camp us to the elementary school to get organized and kind of learn what we learned and we did and even without students it's a it's a bit of a trick so yes sir that's correct we will use the shelter in place before the evacuation I would imagine uh in the uh fall I'll give a gift of Jonathan he'll be able to probably do an evacuation in 2025 26 at some point probably without kids at first identifying the area and W staff and then we'd be more prepared in the event that that occurred and we'll take all this information too and we'll make sure that Jonathan is on boarded and any new staff members are on boarded to
038this on the 4th of April Jesus via Hermosa is going to come back um I know Michael's had that training many of the staff members out there has had Jesus's training before he's an exceptional presenter will post a possible Quorum which invites the board to come um without any worry of violation of open meeting laws if you'd like to participate it is uh it's a very engaging three and a half or four hours he is the best presenter I think I've ever I've ever um been able to see or participate in the crowd he does a great job that will be at the church and the church by the way provides that space at no cost to us and they are terrific partners and we'll have that on the 4th that evening we may have
039a community meeting in the past we just haven't had those very well attended but because of the fire season we might actually get the participation our firefighters and law enforcement has invited us to have a community meeting to just share information and say please please if we're in evacuation please do not rush to the school traffic is going to be horrible and you're just going to make it more desperate for everybody just UST us that we have a plan and your child is safe where they become less safe is when they just start driving home and taking off and not even sure where the fire is or in the event of any kind of um critical incident at any of the schools truly the worst thing to do is for a parent to get in
040their vehicle and Rush down there it's the first normal response but that's where the teachers training and the staff their training kicks in and these are people without an exception that will risk their life to protect children and they will they will are those kids will be protected and taken care of that I know I just know that about Educators and so that is the safety Focus that we'll have in the spring we also yes sir yes yes thank you Kimberly for pointing out our safety school safety officer safety resource SSO for eight years we've been making an effort to acquire an a school resource officer we've had the grant twice and couldn't hire the person that hiring process is a participation between the district and the city or the town the town hasn't been
041able to find one now we actually have a resource where the state allows off-duty officers to work and for the grant dollars to be used for those officers that is a blessing we have three and so we'll have and we have had a presence at each of our school each of our schools and it is uh in addition to the other things that the town does by the way on the passing periods before and after school and a presentent during the school there's they're not here always because there's a problem normally they're here because they I told them any you know anytime you can park and do paperwork or come over please come in so we've partnered very well with the police department locally but this grant an effort through Kimberly and her team will
042allow us to have these officers and provide another level of protection and First Response are there any questions with that think it's a good thing yes sir I don't have any other items but if there's anything that I left out there anybody would like to ask a question I would I would say as a general update go ahead I just have one is it the same SSO and SRO at the at the schools that they stay there the whole year or do they or do they rotate through I um so when it's an SSO it's an off-duty officer um right now we've only had officers from Apache County and Navajo County they're the people that have contracts with the Department the Arizona Department of Education um but they they're pretty much the same people but
043they're not always the same people they kind of rotate through because they're working on their off day this is overtime for them um but it sounds like we had we meet we talked about it this morning it's essentially the same officers over and over and over again which is great um if we do get an SRO through Pinetop Lakeside PD that will be the same person um they are working on that now diligently um but in the meantime we'll have these like essentially revolving officers I've got great feedback um from the principals about how they're interacting with the students and Junior High kids really like it yeah that that was the reason I mean if they can if they have relationships with the students then they know if something's off or something like that so
044yeah incidentally Mr grenal the presence of our Law Enforcement Officers has been consistent enough the older kids are fairly much aware of who they are because they've seen them around on campus and those that have been assigned to work with our students with our staff they really are exceptional humans I mean you you read in a very you know in a real rare incident where the officer didn't step in and protect these children these officers would they are amazing they're amazing people and our principles have worked very closely I I want to commend Chief Dan for his help uh Chief Barnes has just done an exceptional job of getting us resources and so have the officers they really they make every effort to get out here and provide help for us and they cooperate during
045we have large scale events they're always here so the town's been a very good partner in this aspect of our of our support I just wanted to bring that to the board's attention and that uh concludes my report Mr Merill thank you I know this isn't on the agenda but I'd like kind of an update on spring Sports if we're having good participation in baseball track softball if we were having good student participation this year so yesterday was our first day February 10th we we start competitions uh coming up here the the last week of February we we actually start track meets and baseball games our our baseball softball scrimmage is actually next week against Pac numbers right now track we had about 67 kids today um and we're still waiting on some kids from
046the play some girls that are in basketball some boys that are taking some time to come out from basketball uh baseball I want to say they're up in the mid 20s 25 26 and last I checked girl softball I want to say we were 12 as of today so we're trying to boost our numbers with with girls softball right now um off to a pretty good start we had great weather last week and then this week it decided to change on us a little bit so we're excited about that out there having fun together freezing um winter sports can I do a quick report on winter sports real fast how we how we kind of finished up boys were 2 and 15 on the season they you know had some adversity this year struggled with
047some injuries and sickness and some other things that they dealt with they started off really hot played great in some tournaments and then as they got into region play uh experienced some difficulty they did have a great game uh one of their last home games of the year against sholo here where we won by 30 plus points and we had a player go off in the third quarter and have nine three-point uh three-point shots so it was it was quite the quite the night for that our girls went 5 and 13 on the year they made the playoff they're the number 20 22 seed uh they're going to be traveling to Yuma Catholic on Thursday for a playing game so um if we had a private plane we would Charter that but they're going to
048take the bus and head down there to play they play 700 p.m. on Thursday night uh our girls wrestlers attended the sectional meeting last um sectional tournament last Saturday I think we qualified three to go to the state tournament our boy sectional tournament is the Saturday in pacin and the state tournament is going to be the following weekend down at uh Veterans Memorial Coliseum so that's it to the point right now thank you I'm just curious appreciate all the efforts from all the coaches parents that support the kids it's a lot of effort it's a lot of hours spent supporting your kids next item on the agenda is call to the public we'd invite the public to come and address the board about anything they'd like to like you uh comments to be limited to
049three minutes you can't really seed those to person um operating rules are basically uh just let us know which how you're feeling but not so much personality uh attacks and if you could uh give your information who you are and what not to Mary Ford it'd really help us so we can put you in public record we have a taker today thank you hi there I'm Rachel Thompson I'm one of the advisers with the bluid high school student council and and uh we are just wondering if we can have a recommendation to approve two fundraisers through blid high school student council um one of them would be Splash a senior and then that would be so for example I have Brooklyn in the back she's one of our seniors um maybe I want to go
050and splash Brooklyn towards the end of the year we would have four different size buckets and then like the smallest size bucket would be $1 the next size would be $2 so on you know maybe I want to Splash Brooklyn with the $4 bucket and I would dump it on her and that proceeds goes to the senior class and then our St Patty's Day basketball tournament um Brooklyn do you want to explain that one this one would be soon next month yeah hi okay so the senior class wants to do a St Patrick's Day basketball tournament because basketball's really popular in the area um it would be March 15th through the 16th and it'd be in the High School main gym and small gym um we would have a men's division and a co-ed division
051which is men and women playing together um 10 teams per division 12 players Max per team um $200 team entry fee it'll be a double elimination bracket um and then we have prizes for the championship team and the runnerup team um and prizes for the MVP player and the altery can I ask who's going to rest your games just um let me can I help out just a second so the board can't address you because it's called the public and they can't take any action on any of the requests if you're just kind of pushing information and saying hey heads up this is coming that's fine what you'll need to do is get that information to your administrator and let them get that to us as soon as they can and then we'll review it
052to see if we can if it if it works and then we'll take it to the board on the 18th if you have a time sensitive item um we we typically have to have it a couple of weeks in advance of the board agenda Mr web do you have a you want to work with with them on that or yeah definitely we'll work with them okay there there were a couple that were we'll have to look back cuz there were a couple fundraisers that were missing from our list here so that's I think the ones that they're prefacing correct that so we're going to have to dig into and see if what what happened with those couple fundraisers okay if if they if they look pretty straightforward depending on the fundraiser and its complexity anytime
053you have facilities use involved in people from the community there's Insurance request requirements and other things that complicate that but straightforward fundraisers are pretty easy and if it's something that typically the board has approved um they will give me the authority to kind of do it and then ask for their approval after the fact if it's very straightforward and pretty simple but if it's complex you're probably going to have to wait and present it to the board and give us time to do the research thank you we would love to have engaged in a conversation but leg we can't so next month but I'm sure there's a way to work around that if you work with the administration any other items that would like to come before the board in a call to the public
054scenario all right if not just an announcement that our next board meeting will be March 18th at 5:00 pm um any questions from the board any anything from the board that you would like this the superintendent to address in the next board meeting or anything like that that you'd like to inform Dr Wright or cimberly that we'd like to address I already I already spoke with Dr Wright but um maybe just uh and I don't know if we need to do this in in this meeting or not but just to talk about a possible work session we can uh put that on the agenda the next to talk about the timing and and have a discussion yes sir thank you we'll put that that you would like to put on the agenda next time this
055is perfectly okay to say hey let's do a work study or something like that and we'll discuss that in the next board meeting once it's on the agenda okay anything else you're not going to talk about our trip to Hawaii we're just going what that's a joke for the record that is a joke so uh if nothing else can I have a motion to adjourn motion from Bridget to adjourn have a second second for Michael
