006she wasn't able to be at school but we do want to recognize paig is our teacher of the month and paiges since even when I hired her she's from that point on she's always been willing to do what needs to be done to help us be successful at the high school she's a social studies person but we needed English so she went out and got her the what she needed to do to be able to teach English classes as well so we have her in social studies in English and she bounces back and forth wherever there's a need um so she's done that every year that she's been here she's um also is coaching softball at the junior high and then also at the high school and she does a great job with the girls
007and and provides a positive role model for the kids this year she's also working on her her master's degree and and in at leadership and so she's taking on some extra roles and helping us out in the office so we want to recognize paig and for all the hard work that she's doing to and it's and it's good to recognize you know one of our own Blu rid alumina come back and and do great things here on campus so we want to thank Paige for what she's doing thank you Mr web Miss hoffm can you present our BR star award Miss Montoya R could you come up please I could go on and on about Miss Montoya right because um she is such a valuable person in our community um and in our school I
008did write some things down so I could keep it concise so uh Becky Montoya right is an incredible asset to the junior high staff and students her calm presence has a way of making students feel welcome and valued she has the same effect on the staff she constantly recognizes staff for their strengths and organizes events like today's friends giving making everyone look forward to coming to school and being engaged we appreciate her dedication to the safety and health of our community all with a smile and a sense of humor it does she has a great way of understanding junior high students Junior High teachers um and um and just making everybody feel like they are welcome in our school and in our district and we are super lucky to have for with [Applause] us so
009my favorite part of the job is getting to recognize those that Excel you know everybody here does a great job and everybody is necessary but it's awesome when people rise to the top I love it just to see people rise to the top thank you very much I think we need to give them all another round of applause all right the next item on the agenda is a consent agenda and board members are there any items in the consent agenda that you'd like to um separate out and uh vote on independently I know we have some new uh employees are any of those employees here we'd like to recognize not they're not we don't have any new employ that's actually 3.1 right for district for business 3.1 is where we'll go to so these items
010would be 2.5 2.1 2.1 through 2.5 do we have anyone to talk about the fundraisers we don't like it okay anyone what I don't Lauren I don't see anybody from the high school for the fundraisers right the Turkey Trot and the penny War do you want to talk about it you want me to can we pull that out and then and then have give them an opportunity to talk about it it's a good advertising to move that do we need to approve it now or can we do that next month we have the Turkey Trot on Friday so we need it by Friday yeahuh yeah so we'll need to remove what the details do we need to know hold on don't we have to remove that out of the consent agenda first and then we
011can open to discussion so I move that we move um item 2.5 out of the consent agenda I'll second the motion check all in favor how about you Diana Diana I'll have to call her back all right so uh item three point what was that three I mean 2.5 2.5 no okay we'll pull item 2.5 five and vote on it and discuss it independently so the consent agenda for us to vote on right now would be items 2.4 2.3 2.2 and 2.1 do I have a motion to accept I have a motion from Chuck a second from Mark Jennifer Jenifer I know all in favor say I I all right so let's discuss 2.5 recommendation to approve November fundraisers the superintendent recommends the governing board approve the following fundraisers proposed by student council National Honor
012Society and future Business Leaders of America to support our upcoming activities Turkey Trot and a penny war I've seen advertisements for both on Facebook or Instagram so the T this will be our second annual Turkey Trot um what student council FBLA and National Honor Society they've come together to try and get more word out and get more participation so the funds that are being raised are going to be a portion that's set aside for the prizes that the winners will receive from participating in the race and then the rest of the money this is what they're use to adopt a family at Christmas time or several families so they use it basically as a charity a way to fund the charity for um taking care of some of the needs in the in the community
013and then the penny War does the same thing last year they did the juvenile diabetes Association um I believe it's going towards the same thing for um adopting a family at Christmas time so this Turkey Trot is available for all community members to attend and it's during the school day correct correct it's at 12:30 on Friday okay could be a lot of fun come out and enjoy it's more like a turkey walk righty walk you can walk you can run if you're standing next to Spencer Brandon you probably should run because he's going to be given it his off yeah perfect okay have any idea on a goal you're how much money they you'd like to raise I I don't know whatever they can get whatever they can get in yeah they usually do pretty
014well with it so um and there's also an option for the kids to pay to get out of class so we expect that to be a big uh a big bonus in the incentive for some of the kids Co any further questions discussion that answers my question okay then we need a motion to accept item 2.5 as presented I have a motion from Chuck second from from Jennifer all in favor say I raise your hand thank you all right uh item 3.1 recommendation to approve new hires um Dr wght do you want to go through or Jennifer do you want to go through those I'm Jennifer Kimberly my sister's name is Jennifer yeah Jennifer is over here you're both blond and you're both very attractive so it's just hard for me to keep them separated
015um I have a question I noticed that we're hiring cheer coaches yeah um we've done away with cheer a couple of times as I recall we're third times a charm is that there can we'd like to we had cheerleaders we had cheerleaders to started football and then they disappeared and then I'm hoping we have them again that's our hope um we need to make an an update a change so that Sharice ston is want it's going to be volleyball coach for the junior high not chair coach is she's what volleyball coach volleyball coach yeah but the best Vogal I'm not sure how to say the last name I've met her really and we've done our background check on her she's we cheer is we we want to bring cheer back we want to have it
016a successful part of the high school um we thought we would be able to do it this for this school year there the coach wasn't able to make it work and so instead of just putting together something halfhazard we just didn't continue it at that point we have an interest of somebody who has a great resume that is she went to San Jose State was a cheerleader with San Jose State then she went on to um the Oakland Raiders was part of the raiderette and then was with Dallas Cowboys for 3 years so she has an extensive dance background she has a lot of enthusiasm they they want to be a part of the community and stay here as long as they can and they have a they found out about the program because they
017they went to a football game with um one of our teachers and they said what about the chair and and still they they noticed the vacancy and the cheer leaders and so like I would love to do that so they we got into touch with her so this is where we are we interviewed we looked at her references she's phenomenal we expect some great things with with what she's going to bring to the program and a lot of we have a lot of kids that are ready for it and now we can hopefully put the two together and have something strong again I guess I would just make the comment that I assume that we have resolved whatever issues there were that caused us to stop having cheers and so we don't have this problem
018again yes those those have been addressed and and that was something that we we talked about with this current um with our recommendation and absolutely will not be an issue that with that with her okay any other questions or comments so to get this straight shice daison is not a cheer coach but a volleyball coach which is she more comfortable with which one should we vote her in for definitely volleyball okay okay I appreciate your efforts in trying to get cheer back in school cheer is very important it is for the excitement and for posters and for everything and so not having it this last about five years it seems like on and off has really had a profound impact I think in school spirit so I think that will be great we're excited fingers
019crossed thank you thank you so the only correction here is Sherice daisen from cheer coach to volleyball coach so can we have a motion to accept item 3.1 as presented motion from Chuck second from Jennifer all in favor say I I thank you okay item 3.2 recommendation to approve the church lease Dr wri do you want to do that we have gentlemen here we we do we're going to exed the time to you okay thank you thank you very much we appreciate the church and the uh the uh care and maintenance that you give that building thank you we we very much appreciate uh the school and and the board here just just for even considering the addendum to our lease agreement tonight so thank you for that um what you have in front of
020you I believe is is an addendum to the lease agreement which makes two changes one to extend the date uh the end date of the lease through December 31st of 2030 the other one just ministerial stuff to update the contact information for the church be happy to answer any questions that you have but I I would like to say how much of a pleasure it is to work with Dr Wright and his staff uh the partnership goes back a long way and and and we've certainly enjoyed uh that that partnership that we've had uh with with him so thank you for that Dr Wright we' appreciated your support throughout the years board question comments discussion um I guess I'm just curious as to why the the lease we have hasn't expired and now we're amending
021this one so it becomes a 10-year lease with with with our discussions the church is trying to get future planning eventually would have a building and needs to be able to plan for it financially um I will I think I wanted to add we've probably used the church three times since the beginning of school for for school functions and every time I have any kind of an issue it's always the church that adjusts to meet whatever we need but that's how I understand I understood rever Pastor if you want to add to that no that's that's correct we are looking at our our future plans as well and trying to plan out several years for uh the purchase of land and eventually building a building uh but just just trying to secure what we what
022we know today and what we can know into the future uh so that we can plan effectively for that okay um I guess my main concern is is I don't remember what's in the other lease agreement and so I feel like I'm unprepared to make a decision about the lease agreement because my concern is I don't [Music] um we need to make sure it's like a balance of zero like it because I know that there's a percentage of how much they pay nothing's changed other than the date it's just an addendum the the rate still there um the rent rate we raised when we did it last time and the utilities went significantly higher added the cost escalator in there each year that's attached to social the Social Security index so right so I just
023I wish I would have have the other lease so I could make sense about increasing the least time so it's just the matter of time I think that you're like the best tenant in the whole entire world and we want to keep you for forever but I haven't had an opportunity to do my due diligence to know like financially if this is a good decision for the district do we have a copy of that lease I'm yeah yeah so I guess that's my thing is I just can we table it until we get a lease and then review it we have we have the lease and we have the addendum we we can get that to you I just don't know that percentage you know I I guess the biggest thing is what percentage is
024it Jennifer I know that we like if there's a huge increase of energy costs for example and I know that we had something in the lease agreement that talked about like percentage of increase like you're talking about plus percentage of utilities I just need to make sure it's like a balance to where we're not paying for the church to be leasing from us right we what yeah I know she's just talking about the economics I'm not sure how um it I don't think it's a bad thing I just feel like I just don't I want to be able to review like yeah I I guess my comment is we're sure that we're not paying for it we're not giving away anything now with because we the utilities were nominal and we bounced those up I
025can't remember what the amount is now per month but do you remember what it is Pastor up top of your head to what the increase so that's my big concern it's not that I'm a it's not like a that I'm against renewing a lease I just feel like I'm not prepared to be able to make a vote in regards to a lease if I don't have the entire lease that I could have reviewed so that's just one of my weird nitpicky things you know what's your time frame can we wait till the 10th of December absolutely sure just so I can have a copy of that just so I can review the at least the perhaps we table this until the 10th of December and let Jennifer review that how about you Chuck is that
026okay yeah I I don't think we need to if there's no urgency to it I don't think there will be any changes we just Jennifer to to accommodate Jennifer I think that's true if that's we'll just table this item then well it's I think we may be having another meeting possibly shortly and if we have another meeting before that that then we'll put that on the agenda and let you know well in advance sounds good thank you very much all right thanks for coming sorry we should have been a little bit more prepared that's okay thank you guys very much okay we'll we'll table item uh 3.2 for a future date uh shortly future date okay recommendation item 3.3 a recommendation to approve the 20242 school year proposition 301 performance plan Dr right do you
027want to explain the amount that we'd be voting on I I'll defer to Kimberly on defer to Kimberly there we go so the amount that we'll be offering is $9,200 we'll do a third in December and then a third the twoth thirds in the end of June it's the same um performance plan that we've had forever how much does that work out per per person approximately how much does that work out per person minus their benefits dollar dollar $900 $9,200 $9,200 yeah sorry yes $9,200 before benefits and taxes and all that and it'll be broken into two payments two payments one3 in December and um two3 in June yeah okay questions or comments on that so we need a um recommendation to I need a motion actually to approve item 3.4 a motion from Chuck
0283 point three three yeah okay 3.3 3.3 truck right okay and a second from you Jennifer 3.3 okay uh all in favor say i i di not there all right so that is approved also so item 3.3 due to some extenuating circumstances we're going to table that item uh hopefully that'll be I 3.4 I'm sorry okay item 3.4 regarding the hire of Mr Jonathan Roloff for the position of superintendent we've had a couple of extenuating circumstances that we hope to resolve soon and we'll be voting on that later at a later date if possible all right so we're going to table item 3.4 is that okay with the board all right thank you so um Dr Wright give us a general update what the good things are in the in the absolutely um we've since
029our last meeting we had the letter grades come out we know our our elementary school is elevated to an a our high school is petitioning a change in grading we should have received 10 points they took 10 points from us so it's a 20o swing it moves us to B+ or into a territory if it's granted and uh we maintain to be at the junior high and so we've we've maintained a lot of uh momentum there we we put a lot of effort in this last 6 months into creating leadership teams that are looking at data and we're now putting a framework around what that looks like and every week we're reporting where we're coming back what are we doing to identify the students that need additional instruction and assistance what are we doing to
030help them and then we're also making sure we're ramping up our observations to ensure that the district approved curriculum is being done um we're confident that is but there are a couple gaps we've had to fill it in with uh just because the curriculum while it was math science and English there's still other subjects that we've used and then you know frankly our analysis has been where it's been implemented with Fidelity it's worked well uh one math class in the sixth grade last year I think improved 38% year-over-year uh we struggled with last last year at a grade level we have all new teachers at that level but one and that level has that grade level now has adopted the curriculum and they're using it so while we've given time now is the time that
031we're really working towards making sure that all that's implemented with Fidelity we're making progress but we're not going to rest on that we want to continue to to progress year over-year we have uh I visited with Alison Hepner she has received a security Grant to produce eight units between the old love kitchen and the current teacher housing that we have on that property and these units will be 450 Square ft they'll be furnished they'll have air conditioning a stove and a refrigerator and they'll look attractive they'll they're this the containers themselves which is the frame of the house is that's $60,000 alone so it is a substantial gr she's not able to divulge the amount exactly as part of the agreement um but it's enough to produce eight units we have four in service already
032it gives us 12 and we're going to continue to work with that that represents a fiveyear effort on Allison's part so we're very grateful for her staying at it and we were the only District that stayed with her for five years and we kept plugging away so that our hope is to have those delivered and have a ribbon cutting the first week of June of 25 just a thought is there included in this grant um funding for a fence along the property line between that and that acreage next door I haven't asked about that um there there's an existing fence right now between the highway and the property on the other side the south side of the property and the West there's not I I would have to ask I don't I don't I don't
033know okay I'm just curious I think it would probably be a good idea if we had a fence there especially if we have staff there that have children yeah the economics as such there is a um just sort of fatuously there's a playground area that has it's sort of fenced in for a smaller area there but that might be something that we could expand um the people staying the teachers that will be staying there will be charged somewhere about 600 or 700 a month everything included um that number we're still working on what we want to do is just to make it as cost effective as a POS as possible we're not looking to have to maintain it so we don't really need to make money we just don't want to have to put money
034into it our part will give them a 19-year lease on the land and then they put the structures on on the land okay so there'll be more information on that coming forward but I am glad to hear that she secured the Grant and now it's just a matter of timing well I'm assuming they've done the research to find out whether we need to do any expansion to the infrastructure in other words sewer water electricity and so forth to handle that many units they put up I I think I think they have invested about $150,000 in the in the planning side of this and like I said it's been five years so I doubt that there's any stone unturned yep sounds good yeah so I'm I'm happy about that the uh Thanksgiving holiday is this week
035next week rather we will have that Wednesday off for travel for our staff and so we're off the 27th through the 30th of the following week right I think it's the 9th 17th 19th 16th something November today I'm not sure what date is it's the 19th yeah so it's next week right okay are there any questions from the board this might be a little out of line but I'd like Mr K to come up and just kind of give a rundown on what uh our Athletics did you bet fall Athletics absolutely if you're going to come you're going to get put to work is what yes sir yes sir all our fall Sports had a pretty good season our girls volleyball team uh made the play in they played otsy Institute um and didn't come
036away with a win but they were still considered right there they were ranked I believe they were 19th right there at the end of the season and went into the playoff as you know they take 24 the top from from 9 to 24 to a playin and that's how they see the top 16 to go into the playoff so yes they made the playin game but weren't able to make the top 16 to go in uh football end the season seon s and three um was the 13 seed played push Ridge right there in the first round of the playoff went down to Tucson uh lost that game but played the number four seed and you know had a pretty good season ended up seven and four I know if you talk to the coaches
037they weren't happy with that NE with the boys but you know still pretty good season at that point cross country had a phenomenal finish to their season if you see coach Shannon ainson let her know the job that she's doing she finished with 48 kids uh this year in the program which I I don't know if people know anything about cross country but it's pretty difficult when you consider the amount of running they run a 5k which is 3.1 miles um we took a full boys team down um two high placers Jeff gerardi and Spencer Brandon placed really high for the team um and then two girls GI gerardi and uh T Applegate went down and and ran down there so great finish for our um cross country team uh boy soccer um had a
038rough part of their season they started out real good um and then kind of you know towards the end of the year they they peaked a little early and then struggled against some tough teams didn't make the playoff but coach Chaba um Salvador was really eager about next year young team a lot of young Talent with freshman and sophomore so still trying to grow and get them ready for next year uh girls same situation with our girls soccer had you know more of a young team uh you know a few seniors on that team but still they were able to make the play in um they they drew with snowflake this year they won one down there snowflake beat us down here at at the end of the year got into the playin that's who
039we drew in the playin game went down to snowflake lost a heartbreaker down there 4 to three so it was a really really good matchup down there with our girls soccer so that's how our our fall Sports doing we've just kicked off winter sports had our tryouts the last two weeks got our team set boys and girls basketball set to kick off they actually have a game tomorrow um Boys are home tomorrow night against Valley Christian and our girls are traveling down to play against Valley Christian wrestling's first meet is going to be December 4th in PAC so that's kind of the State of Affairs right now that we're dealing with with Athletics um doing a really good job so thank you appreciate that information I was curious about the junior high there you go
040um we so we had our we had seventh uh and eighth grade football um in the fall we actually um we were super excited about the coaches that we had Chris Johnson took over he was our eighth grade coach uh for eighth grade football Jared Wright who's one of our uh he works in maintenance he was our seventh grade coach kids did great Joba is really a foundation building Year we're excited about the numbers of kids that we're seeing come back out um so that was great we also had girls softball um so seventh and eth grade softball as well um right now we are looking at the numbers of students that we have attending and we're starting to see those numbers grow again um and so while we we didn't have um any any
041kind of playoff information uh junior high Works a little differently anyways um we so football doesn't have a playoff game they just have their you know they have their season um off the top of my head I cannot remember what the season what our what our wins were um but they had they did have a couple wins and they you know they did really well um but we have a lot more kids that are participating we also had quite a few kids participating in Cross Country um as well first quarter and so so right now we are in volleyball and wrestling season so second quarter is volleyball and wrestling um and so we've had a couple of we've had a few games um haven't secured the wins quite yet that we would want our wrestlers
042we're having quite a few wrestlers that are placing though they're doing really well um and we're um and the kids are the kids are participating we're just seeing a lot more kids this year participate again and so that's really exciting um and so we'll start basketball at the our tryouts for basketball at the end of this quarter and we'll have that as third quarter Sports love it thank you thank you can we talk about the gerardi boy and his awesome success I'm say yes we just can't vote on it I know who wants to announce his awesomeness does anyone know his details wasn't he the fastest freshman in this state jet Jor is fastest freshman in the state placed in the top 14 was it 14 16 overall at the state W that's pretty rockar
043going up and down Hills it's not like a track no yeah well it has a name for it yeah just turns the Jets on and there you go all right thank you so the next item is just to announce our next board meeting on next regularly scheduled board meeting will be December 10th there's a possibility we might have a short specific board meeting prior to that with an executive session so that will be announced well in advance of when that happens if it happens so what I need now is just a motion to adjourn a motion to adjourn from Chuck second from Jennifer all in favor of adjournment say I I thank you [Music]
