an international visiting teaching program would anyone like to pull something out although review well I mean it's on number 200 new business so I just didn't know I don't think that was supposed to be under because that's not online okay so let's remove that um because we're going to talk about that later on whenever we've discuss that yet is there any other items anyone would like to remove from the design agenda for individual discussions foreign discussion I um we'll vote no because I don't think the minutes always accurately reflect what happened in the meeting and I don't have enough detail address and for the same similar reasons Colleen gave no shocks no McMurray yes lamb yes chief uh Macomb yes uh donations oh no Christine has please interviews this is Alyssa Olsen um she uh
filmed one of our Behavior interventions in bcba positions for the district so super excited to have a bcba on staff that's a rare occurrence for a school district we might be one of two districts um sort of in our Region 4 area to have that that um specific position um and have someone who actually is interested in selling it so super excited to have her um Alyssa grew up in Champaign and graduated from Elmhurst College in 2019 with a degree in Psychology at Ball State University with her master's degree degree in applying houses certification um she spent the past three years working in ABA therapy with students ages 3 through 18 uh all diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder she enjoys calligraphy hiking and playing guitar she's excited to join the Mohammed Seymour school district and
we could not be more thrilled to actors thank you all right and Alyssa you are more than welcome to stay all night if you like or you are awesome um donations Dr Woods says we have one donation from an announcement Seymour Junior High School Band program it is a tuba with two mouthpieces and an extra case that was appraised by the music shop of two thousand eight hundred dollars we certainly appreciate our Anonymous donor for that generous gift thank you the motion a second to prove that our nation has a discussion role model please so yes yes all right from the PTO msca thank you anything from the foundation uh just a real quick update from the foundation um the teacher grants applications will open up on October 24th so teachers get your uh desire
agreement submitted to the foundation and hopefully we can get a bunch of those groups this year all right I understand all right um as far as visitors we had two times we've asked to speak we've got up to five minutes if it fails I will start something on my phone so I'm looking at my phone that's what's going on and I'd like to remind everybody that it's the only time that I would need to look at these are not in after that all right so we'll start with there good evening everyone mayor kendrickson I'm a resident homeowner and property taxpayer um yes one of the I'm not really all that prepped in that kind of busy last 30 days but it was basically going to be hitting on items that a better concern to me
since I've been coming to these events these meetings for over a year um we don't seem to see I don't seem to see concerns and suggestions you know making the agenda on these meetings ever so far it's zero for how many concerns and proposals I've I've laid for that's you know there's approximately five or six of those um you know I talked last time about you know a potential conflict of interest by our school board president um I to clarify that a little bit more I mean I wouldn't single him out I mean anyone that's you know the set's policy that you know whose livelihood potentially benefits as someone that sets policy here is that's that's what is a conflict of interest and so I would you know any more than a realtor I don't
think someone should be a general contractor a bill a builder sitting on the board of directors say um that's as far as I'm going to take that um the agenda that's just uh then with the referendum you know knows no you know just because it's wrapped up a little bit different and it's got you know a couple more adjectives and different types of persuasive statements and language used with it the bottom line is I don't know when you walk outside and you you go and buy a gallon of gasoline or more you know you want food for your table you know other expenses building materials almost anything you can think of is really high so and and it's affecting people that are at retirement age which is what yours truly here is and so I
I get a little bit concerned about you know spending money I mean I think that there should be a way to make things work as they are and find others was much you know I'm just interested in quality instruction and Facilities as the next person is but there's got to be a different way to fund it I think it should be funded off of the development that occurs in this town load you got get impact fees on these new properties and get working with the village board and whoever else might be able to do that so that when it comes time to say we need some money it's already escrow it's already there or most all of it is and you're not asking for much out of anybody after that because people that are causing
the growth need to be the one to finance it for the most part and that way uh the the average you know existing citizen does not keep getting and keep coming to that well of the property tax let's find another way um I think that's about all I've got right here so thanks for listening yeah Mark I'm sorry yeah so much to talk about it's a little time uh I'm surprised I'm here to start with talking about 100 million dollar programs referendums and that's what we're talking about I also noticed the website seemed to change you got rid of all the old information and started with just some new information is that correct okay because I I know you hired a firm to determine the growth that you expected and there was about 12 reasons
they said that this would not uh no longer hold water if you will and one of them was if the gas prices were to go 100 a year then what they projected would no longer be true well it just went up 50 to 100 in one year so does that mean that what that firm did is now negated if you read the fine print it would there were some other things in there of those 12 things that we've Hit The Benchmark on so I question it I question it wholeheartedly you have a middle school there that can be fixed you can put some Band-Aids on it for a few years and see how we get through the next few years because if you're looking at the writing on the wall right now it's scary what's
going on around the world and I know that this is only one school district out of how many in the country and I'll bet you uh a large percentage of them are asking for the same kinds of money because I've said it before part of the Communist program is to take our money so we can't have property I'm not a fan of taxes and as you said to the teachers last week we just don't have the funds well that's true with your uh constituents they don't have the funds for this so I'd suggest you put another package together more like the five million dollar range and fix that school for 10 years you're talking about the growth of 10 over three tenths in over 10 years that's 300 students how many classes are there in
this whole area are there 300 classes going on maybe one student of her class you tell me the teachers can't handle that I it's a sad situation if teachers can't handle that gross I still got time that's all I got to say on on the referendum I think it stinks the way you repackage it I'm used to liberals doing that if at first you don't succeed try and try again try and try again trying to wear them down and run into it many County board meetings beautiful we've asked when I had that nice uh time with Dr Lee he mentioned that if four of you board members were to agree on something it can get done I suggest you open the commentary on this YouTube four of you why are you censoring the parents from
seeing what's said here and commenting on what's said here because I'm sure a lot of people like to to pipe in on this on these things that are discussed okay four votes get it done I want to hear that you voted and I want to see what the votes say and who voted how I want to know the suppressing uh or censoring the constituents the parents and the grandparents we talked about putting books in the library so we can see what you're teaching the kids now I was assured there's no critical race Theory or anything like that in the school system well then in my research you'll Dr Hall you remember that picture on the U of I cannabis is there a camera there what's that say the impact of the 2020 U.S presidential election
on children's mental health and the role of social emotional learning and viewing racial wounds will be explored in upcoming online parenting seminars and other activities that's just one example of what this school is doing there's another one that's pretty interesting as well and by the way when it comes to the gay agenda their gay agenda is huge and it's not about I lost it there's another one just as damning as what I just showed you and the gay agenda is running across the country and it's here you're doing it I'm assured things aren't happening and yet there's proof everywhere it is and there's proof what the foundation is behind it and it's not good for the students it's good for their agenda and their agenda is horrible for the students it's horrible for our country
in my opinion why were they all in red shirts last week what's that about it's not a magnet thing it's not enough Bulldog things [Music] and your white teachers oh my God I didn't see a minority amongst all of them that quote has got to change doesn't it hey um now it's time for board Communications I have nothing to see okay sorry um I just wanted to say thank you for that um teacher conferences and all the work that teachers put in behind the scenes and getting ready for those and meeting with parents and really being able to connect with teachers from elementary schools I appreciate all the work I don't know sorry um so last week on the contract and in point of fact I did not abstain that was present and the article
went on to say board president Max McCombs said the abstentions were due to Meekins and my concerns over the district's ability to maintain appropriate Staffing levels As Romans climb since the pay increase I started quote since the pay increase was a little larger than we counted on this isn't what I said in the meeting it doesn't reflect my position so I want to take this opportunity to be clear about my vote I have no reservations at all about paying my concern is that we didn't structure an entire plan that solved the problem we as a district face I voted present not because I didn't think we should do the things in the contract but rather I didn't think it was enough another of my concerns for voting president was that it became very obvious to
me in the course of our discussion that with this board voted on and what the msca voted on were different in their compensation I think it's important to say what we mean that was very uncomfortable is what the board voted on was what's going to show up in the written contract or with the msca voted on it I'm very concerned that we talked regularly over three years about various problems that this District faces how are we going to solve some of the problems before us for example we have a significant problem in transportation our transportation department can't get bus drivers so they're deciding it's okay for kids to miss classes or half of classes um and parenting report the kids are being dinged in their grades because of that and that's a problem um there
are ways to solve this problem and I don't think we're doing them some of those Solutions involve compensation and some don't but I don't think it's right for us to lock ourselves into compensation before solving the problem was implemented and that's just one example I am concerned about the district's ability to have a plan to attract and retain teachers when I asked if we could talk I've only made several comments suggesting that she knew the plan but I don't know the plan that's actually the problem why does Sonny know the plan for the board to attract him between teachers and I don't we're both board members why would one member know the plan and not the other and how does a board plan even come to be without a discussion of the board this is
a real problem you can pay on the money we want to have the ISB come but the actual problem here is that the board since the moment I've come has been operating in a way such that some board members count and some don't some board members are valued to listen to and included in some art and this is a problem on this board but um the real problem is that what's happening here on the sport is also a reflection of what happens in this district and the community this District operates as if there's teachers and staff for matter and teachers and staff who don't matter the former listen to and the voices of the letter silence this is the problem and as long as we're going to run our district with a culture and partiality
we will continue to have these problems and not be the best District we can be we need to change this culture on this board so it's not a dictatorship that it's one where everyone is included and we need that to trickle down through our school system everyone needs to matter we need to listen to all of our staff just not the ones who say everything is perfect when it's not we need to listen to the parents and the students who have power in this community and the ones who don't oftentimes board members bring up something that's harming kids or saying people are saying something's intention to them and we hear the response but that didn't happen to my mind so it's not a problem that response is the problem that's the response of someone who's
not listening let's be clear we do have people in our school system who are working on improving the culture I've been encouraged by the improvements I've seen in practice one example is that I'd have the occasion to speak with Chad Benedict the other day and there's a popular practice that lots of principles and assistant principals throughout the country are doing to help kids feel about in our bedroom but what struck me in the conversation was that Chad said but some kids don't want that and so I always ask Chad listen to what the kid needed and then his action was resulted in Improvement rather than a social media moment that doesn't really help kids I also had an occasion to talk with Maggie Weimer this week and she said the similar thing she talked about
interacting with each child individually and listening to what they need I'm sure I could talk to a lot more staff and find a lot more folks who are trying to change this culture but I'm not allowed to have those customers so I just want to set the record straight since I was misrepresented if the summary of what you've heard me say is what was in the News Gazette then you're not listening to me and this is the same problem you have with the referendum you can say you're listening but if what you say for one is different from what they're actually saying then you're not listening doesn't work when you push through what you want and just say I'm listening is real life with real kids who face real challenges and we need to work
with under a Solutions oh it wouldn't have cost me um I Colleen I appreciate Echo a lot of what you said there um I think that was highlighted tonight with two gentlemen who do come and want to be engaged with us to ask for things to be added to the agenda because they're part of the community and they want to see that this board listens and grapples with those decisions in public so they can see the discussion and see the votes I've asked several times that some of the issues that they brought up specifically the do we open YouTube be something that we address in this forum and it does not seem to make it to the agenda so I think what Colleen said is true we either are going to say that we listen
or we're going to actually listen and I would hope that we would take what we heard tonight turn that into action put them on the agenda and let the community see us talk about these important issues to some decision in front of the community so that they can understand which board members are most appropriately representing their voices because I think the thing that we cannot lose sight of is that when you silence a voice of a board member because you don't like what they're saying there are community members who whose stances they are representing it's not a single person you're closing down it's community members and they have the right to their representation so I agree with what you said I think it was well said thank you coach first of all Colleen I apologize
viewer misrepresented the music is that I was very clear with them I didn't watch pretend to speak friendly workers I was very clear when I said you you know based on they kept Crossing I said based on the continents this was my interpretation but you need to watch your own conclusions before you print anything I have no idea uh but I certainly understand frustrations of being rather than misrepresented my media source so my apologize that that happened um tonight earlier we were about you know why this ability of empathic teams that's come up several times so I thought I'd just across that real quickly um the way our local government is structured in Muhammad which is the legal for us to impact fees of your home group in Illinois Community so impact fees are on
table just because in fact I don't think we have any community there's very few dollars at our home rule areas um yeah that's it some things to go through tonight so I was in my conversation tied down um I have a financial today yes um just wanted to point out the reason um day expenses are a little bit more than where we're at who they right now we've finished 25 of the Year our expenses are at 30 and it's because we move money out of our capital projects fund to Facebook of our death certificates so you'll see the money going out in The Debt Service fund and you see the money going out also in the capital projects fund so it that is why it's just the timing so I just wanted to point that
out I don't know if anybody else has any other questions about the report questions for her Christine Daniels who report there's a Christina English to highlight just want to say that October is National Physical Therapy month and I want to thank Dr Catherine Rose who's the physical therapist in the district her her tenure here for our predates me she was here when I came in 2005 and she's so weird and she's a wonderful asset to our kids and our families in the district so I just wanted to say that about Catherine um I also got word today that Colleen had some questions about Staffing then wanted an update regarding special education Staffing so here's sort of the the nitty-gritty of it here at npe we have one open teaching position and one open uh paraprofessional
position that is set to be filled as soon as we can finish reference checks and those kinds of things um Lincoln Trail has one open teaching position um and we need to add some hours to speech and language therapy over there and that was that's strictly due to the kids who moved into Lincoln trails are pushed back the season language one tend to not have people starting 60 students of the junior high list a sweet open position um we started the year with five special education teacher into that eighth grade position um and to have a second person coming uh for sixth grade as soon as that background check clears um there's also two paraprofessional positions open at the junior high that remains um the high school is fully staff certified teachers and paraprofessionals around
so what do we do like sorry it wasn't clear did you start with five openings but you filled two so you only have three openings left that is correct so you have like five openings in the district how are we don't have certified people to do that I know there's a bunch of much more strict laws on IEP things than they're in a traditional questions so how are we managing that and what are we doing to make sure our students are I don't know I was just wondering what we're doing because it seems like there's so many openings to get really hard to run the program that way yeah you are correct it's difficult and we have pieced much of that programming together so um for instance um at Lincoln Trail in all of those
open positions there have been long-term studies to hire the vast majority of them are certified teachers have certified sub-certificates or they all have a bachelor's degree or greater um so we have I have special certified Illinois certified special education teachers who are writing IEPs so we are giving them the progress monitoring data meaning where that's what that student's present level of performances some other additional information that's required related to what kinds of accommodations and verifications are required and that person is writing that IEP so that the people that we have that are certified or serving those long-term substitute positions they're just teaching they're just providing methods so really a certified special education teacher is the only one who should be providing those minutes and or they can be overseen or modified or Changed by a
certified special education teacher and then a paraprofessional or the long-term Subs can Implement that so that's basically the system that we've got going and what that's done is um it's increased Rendezvous case load just in terms of case management you know she's overseeing many many many students at the Junior High um Marissa Hill is overseeing a large piece load of students and writing IEPs and helping Implement curriculum and whatnot I have a few of those students that I'm doing very same thing before um and then we have some folks at Lincoln Trail um for instance Vicki Legacy who moved over to the interventionist position and she did that saying that she wanted to continue to case manage those kids that she would have had in fifth grade already so she's continuing to do that she's
overseeing the data she's overseeing the instruction Stacy living who is a certified teacher is um subbing in that position and working with Vicki to provide services to those students or if you don't have a teacher so it's it's a lot of patching things together so it seems like that's putting a lot on our current certified special ed teachers then right so if someone's supposed to be doing a whole interventionist job like that's kind of a full-time job of itself right and then you know if he's not providing any minutes Vicky is the team that you know she's the one sending out the notification of conference she's the one facilitating an after-school meeting and IEP meeting with her parents she is sending home copies of the IEP when that meeting is done for half of those
two the teacher that's working remotely in writing IEP she's doing that for the other half of this I met with the staff at Lincoln Trail we've had conversations about what they wanted to do Vicki wanted to do what she's doing right now it felt like she was able to do that this is nothing we didn't say to anybody this is what you're going to do so the two folks that we've got will come in eighth grade and one coming in sixth grade they will deliver all the special education and then we're going to maintain the long-term Subs that have already been in place since the beginning of the year and they will continue to support kids and the general education setting so those kids are being taught by certified teachers regardless of where they're at
um and most of you know 80 85 of those kids spend 85 of their day in Jeanette giving instruction from that math teacher history teacher Eli teacher um and our teachers come alongside and support those kids so they can access it for anybody who has a pull-out instruction there there will now be special education teachers at every grade level that can pull those kids and providers here compared to the same time one time last year is that the situation better or worse last year we were two special education teachers short at the junior high on the that's been the case since coven um Olympian Trail we were fully staffed here we were fully staffed last year so it's been it's a little hard yeah yeah and I noticed in our bills today that there were
it's quite a big chunk for us to pay for us I think they said tell a school psychologist an inteller special ed teacher can you tell us like how does that work it doesn't seem like you could really be a special end teacher not there or right so those thoughts are primarily writing IEPs I have to have a certified person to write iup so they're the ones that were we've got there's a system in place where you know progress is monitored that happens all the time anyway that progress is being shared with those folks ahead of time whatever that timeline needs to be then they're writing the IEPs sharing that back with the case managers in some cases the long-term substances they census um those people have to be used there's no we have 360
some students maybe more with IEPs there's no way that anybody else can take on that additional IEP rating without getting someone else as far as remote psychology um you know and doing assessments and whatnot we have some kids who can't do that remotely so if those kids are being absorbed by your other three School psychologists district and then there are other kids who can do that remotely with no problem and can have I mean we use that for meetings already this year when those kids were evaluated remotely you know someone's face with them it's either a paraprofessionals sometimes it's you know whoever that student can work the best with um and they sit there and do the testing sometimes it's 15 minutes at a time sometimes those kids will work for 45 minutes at a
time and that's how that's being addressed so is that working out well in those positions well it's certainly not ideal um and we're switching remote School psychologists at this point um just for logistical kinds of reasons but again it's it's something new and what it did though was help us really clarify our process I think in writing so really evaluate like is this a piece we really need or is this just something we've always done but we don't that's a piece we can take out the water is that a piece that we need with certain students perhaps but not more memories so we really looked at that SLT entitlement across um because their entitlement we really don't need to do much additional testing unless we're concerned that you might have a cognitive disability right so
but we still oftentimes provide acute tests because that's what schools have always done we don't have to get an IG test so we've kind of looked at some of those practices and made some decisions based on what what do we really need what do we need to know about the student that's not to say we would never do one if that could give us some information that we need but we don't have to always do one and that's the whole purpose of entitlement anyway we've got enough data to say that's what we need to go on and so obviously you need five special ed teachers but is there anything else you need to support this program yeah these students or is there something that I mean this is it's almost a daily discussion whether it's
with myself and um Nicole and Kenny whether that's with myself in the building you know and it's really kind of hard to pinpipe pinpoint colleges are not turning out special education teachers anymore numbers and you might have 15 or 20 that are going to come from the University of Illinois in a given year and 95 of those are more head north um he starts not turning out but a ton of them you see a lot of special education teachers from Eastern um so you know what can we do to make it attractive and that's something else we just talked about this afternoon I think there are several individuals who are currently in the district depending what role that's in um they're really interested in becoming special education teachers so the conversation is what can we
use a district do to support you while you do that can we hook you up with a particular college or here in the colleges we've worked with before and that's capacity if you're a paraprofessional can you um you know will continue to pay you in that position as a paraprofessional even while you do your student teaching or if you need to move you to a different grade level because that's a requirement of your student s um we talked about you know what what kinds of process for instance like helping uh people who want to go back to school and identify those loan forgiveness programs and I'm not talking about the one that I just came out with but I'm talking about um you know where you work for so many years either as a special
education teacher a boarding school who has a lower SCS PCS status like a title school and you can get so much of that um that long wait um so can we Count Their full-time years of employment a little bit sooner um especially for some folks who are from long-term subs and special education and are really enjoying that position and would love to go back to school and get that degree so it what do I need I mean I need colleges to um recruit people into special education and talk to people about hey here's a really great career I need colleges to open up and allow more than 15 students in a semester I think that's a pretty um that's not gonna help the problem when you're being so super selective about the kids because you
want to be really protective of that program we need to be targeting out more kids than . that's a significant problem um and then I think we've got a national problem where you know when I went to school and I get you know that was eight months ago but you know everybody wanted to be a team that was a really um you know that was sort of a that was a career you went out and said hey this is what I want to do and everybody said yeah and you did it and everybody appreciated them and I think teaching is probably one of the harder how to be for lots of reasons um you know I I don't know how we changed that that view that perspective Christine have you guys ever I don't not
since I've been around but has a district ever considered a grow your own program starting even as young as Junior High allowing students to I mean I know we've got like the child care piece at the high school but I'm talking more like let's get our kids who have shown an interest in working with students into settings here at Middletown where you can work one-on-one with kids or you can support a teacher's classroom and then learn what it's like to be a teacher I mean teaching is an incredibly rewarding profession and I feel like if kids can start to see that early on it may leave Deb wrote I was reading some research recently about how many students who graduate from teaching programs want to go back to where they grew up to teach sure
and so I feel like there may be some there may be some bang for your buck in a growing your own just kind of talked about that today as well we think there's a group of students at the high school who are really interested in teaching and I think they're going over to maybe visit an Illinois State University sometime this week um there's probably a few kids in that group that we've identified specifically are probably interested in special education right and you know what can we do how do we what do we do to sort of um talk to them about what opportunities might be available here or you know encourage them to keep coming back here in some um we've also got to work kind of the work program for lack of a better
term at the high school right now and for instance we've got a student who wants to be a physical therapist and that's their goal so again kudos to Dr Rose who said sure bring that student in and not anything work with me for the semester or for the year um so trying to put those kids who are really interested in those positions um you know I'll be honest with Marissa Hill was that that time Marissa manual started the Bulldog buddy program that was one of the big points of that program um not just to have pure peer interactions but to also you know some kids who might be interested in becoming special education teachers and we've got some teachers in the district right now here originally would be one of them that the sole reason
he went to school to be a special education teacher was because of his experience so um just trying to continue those positive interactions for kids as they go through school to make them want to do that whether that we hear or anyplace else if you want to be a special education teacher here or you know in Carbondale Illinois office the entire State the entire nation peace good teachers any other questions I think that's one very quick question of course um I noticed in your report that several teachers were doing the letter streaming is that the full-blown two-year whole course certified at the end kind of thing will that Infuse it all into tier one instruction or is that going to primarily be for kids with IPS or identified learning needs right now it's just special
education certified staff that are taking that training um it's um it's it's a bit time and labor intensive um so you know to have the entire staff do that or participate in that would be huge huge I'm not I mean it was all I could do to get put together the languages right now um so you know but I do think I think especially as an elementary um you know a canine or k k six k eight but how do they certify those teachers come out with instruction and reading right and a special education teacher so we're taught to be generalists we don't come out with a you know whole you know we've come out with okay how do we modify or adapt this um you know what what's the strategy we could use for
but we don't come out with reading degrees or a ton of experience in teaching literacy at all so I feel like a lot of what the special education staff is learning right now might be a big chunk of what pre-service teachers get in their education otherwise and we just get in a very different way so I think some some um colleges are doing that a little bit different including those pieces in there but I mean yeah this is probably really good for all of them and we have some really excellent teachers that teach reading um but it's always good to go back and thank you great thank you and how often do they have to do that training well there are modules that they go through and so that's what I was just looking at
before the meeting tonight um by the time they get through um the two years they'll have about 70 hours in of online training um and then there are four times three times four times this year that they're meeting with live trainers um the trainer is virtual but um you know that it's interactive they can ask questions and whatnot um so that they they're reviewing some of this stuff we're learning initially they're putting some things into practice then they meet with a trainer and ask some questions then they're going back and putting other things into practice again as they're learning new things moving so it is a two-year cycle it's intense and do they do that during their prep period or drink I mean that's a lot of hours for it is a lot of already
over it is a lot of expensive and I'm they're being compensated for that so every year I send a survey to the specialist what you know what do you want professional development to be around this year and give them tons of choices and so um two years ago they identified we need assistance with we need to know better how to work with our kids who have outside diagnoses of Dyslexia for us that would be a specific learning disability and reading you know what does that look like what's the foundation how do I know where to start with kids um because we're seeing kids who have more and more significant reading struggles every year for a wide variety of operations so um you know what I did 20 years ago as a teacher to teach reading
looks very different right now than what you need to know and be able to do to teach me so they identified reading we looked at a bunch of different programs and what I didn't want to do was give them another can program I just think we've got to be more flexible than that and I think um you know we really needed something that was going to address the identified need in the community as well in the district of teaching our kids with dyslexia and what does that look like so this is something that covered all of those bases so they're being paid for their additional time um they're just they are in our sleeping Mean Time parts for that um and that's how we're doing that and and they also they are not committed on
the those early release days in the afternoon so they're welcome to use that um to either write IEPs or to do this training um so they don't want to spend their time on that really dismissal thing right in the high keys they can do some of that those modules then okay yeah we want to make sure we dump too much not a way to get more special ed teachers the most popular thing right now that I mean people a lot of the teachers are happy to have someone else be riding their ideas just because that's gotten more time intensive right just it's gone from 10 pages to 30 pages you know over a few years so that's one women trying to take a lot from some books for sure foreign the next week we have
um our curriculum nights or Elementary curriculum night will be October 25th in our Junior High High School curriculum night will be the 26th so I've had um great turnout from teachers that are volunteering that will come out and meet different sessions um so we'll get that pushed out hopefully by the end of the week so parents can see the sessions that will be offered and think about what they might like to attend any questions all right Dr Lee just a couple of things this is the time of year policy for colon 8-0 we've got hope this evening to present the the audit and then the Anna bar will be presented as well and also as far as copyright Works made for hired Dr Rummel uh we'll send our federal copyright law to staff and her
next newsletter and it's not per our policy but I registered this week or last week to be our dmch as well into that's just best practice foreign so if someone develops instructional materials the district owns the copyright on those yes is that true yeah is that just our policy or is that a law that's our policy as a result of the law I believe but I'll get more information you know I think that's a legislative yeah okay nice uh is the approval of the construction geometry and the sports Department construction geometry and Sports Marketing [Music] seconds and you'd like to present nope I'm just getting ready for the next one I'm ready to roll she's done this before um thank you thank you for and to the teachers and of course we have some High
School staff here tonight so thank you guys for being here well this is just great local police chief Ryan Yes Hennessy yes henrix Schultz yes lamb yes yes all right well now that you're all set up and that you're all here uh we're gonna talk about uh Morgan course discussion yes so um I I want to share we're bringing a few new courses this evening and it's a little bit out of sequence for how we typically do things um because now that the board would like to hear materials and have new courses presented and then the 28 days until that vote um that kind of messes with our timeline a little bit for some of our other meetings so um we're bringing the information to you now so that you have this meeting and then
until next month um in first week of November I believe is our next Dart meeting and so these have not gone to the dirt team at this time um the courses that um that Dan is going to share in a few minutes for math and sciences have been discussed at the vertical meeting um so um I just want to be clear that this isn't typically the flow of things but I do want to get everything out there in the time of year so you guys have an opportunity to listen and ask questions um but we still have an opportunity to get these into the course catalog um first semester okay thank you no problem thank you so up first I think uh Jane fulbert's gonna share a little bit about AP English and language and
talk a little bit about sequencing too right okay hi everyone I'm Jamie Colbert and I'm the English division chairperson at the high school and I'm here tonight with my colleague Anne Rowley and we're going to present a couple new courses these courses um aren't going to be necessarily um bumping anything out of our current list of offerings but sort of repurposing a couple things uh I've been teaching in the district for 22 years and I'm just trying to figure out but I think I've been working with AP Lit for about 17 of those years and that's a senior level offering AP language is its junior year counterpart and we just have never offered it um because we've had other choices we've been working most recently with English 3 and English three honors so this would
not replace either of those two options it would just come in as a third tier opportunity the main difference between AP language and the current course I teach to seniors AP Literature is that AP language focuses more on the reading and analyzing of non-fiction and I think that's incredibly important for our students to have experience with and exposure to because you know much to my dismay I'm not cranking out hundreds of English Majors every year so the reality is that a lot of our students are going into Fields where they their daily experience will be with non-fiction works so they need to know how to read and process scientific journals um read and recognize strategies in speeches to point out bias and articles so this class would focus on those things to account for the
fact that it would be happening junior year which is the year that the students have their most exposure to a General survey of American literature some of the core non-fiction pieces from English 3 and English three honors would still stay in this option too so we would take a solid look at some founding documents the Declaration of Independence we would take a look at some famous speeches and um so they would still be getting plenty of exposure to American Literature within this course too um so key benefits would be just more exposure to non-narrative texts and if you look at the common core standards half of the standards are built around informational works and this would be a class really centered on that it would provide Juniors an additional option um just another layer in
their choices a lot of our other departments within the high school have multiple AP offerings within that area you know within science you've got AP Academy you've got AP Bio you've got AP Physics in English we have just continued with AP Literature the whole time so this would just be one more opportunity for students to take an advanced level course um and studying some of the different curricular pieces of this class and what the students would have to do on the AP exam for this I found lots of similarities between this type of study and the SAT which is not surprising since the college board rules both so I think it would be doubly beneficial to students because their SAT scores would probably improve just by exposure to this type of work within the English
class um there are certain students that really do enjoy informational text more than they do fiction works and I think that this class might be of interest to them and there are a lot of surrounding schools that offer AP language to Juniors many most really um if anything fewer schools offer AP Lit to seniors so it's I think in US offering both and having that tiered approach would give our students the most opportunity for you accumulating credits if that's what they're interested in so here are just some major course objectives these come straight from the 18 guide for this particular class so I didn't bring that with me because it's you know 100 page document but if you'd like to see it I have it um but it really again focuses on a lot of
rhetorical analysis some synthesis work and some argumentative writing and Dr Rommel mentioned course sequencing and I thought maybe you'd be most interested in this to see kind of where it fits in students could have the opportunity to take English one honors English 2 honors English three honors and then go into AP Lit if they wanted a more American literature focused honors experience that would be the route that we would encourage them to take but students could also take the path of English one honors English 2 honors AP language and then AP Lit or they could speak English one honors English two honors AP language um which if they do all of the exam they should get credit for English 101 which would then leave them open to take English 102 or dual speech so yes
in a couple of those Pathways we're sending students up to leave with several credits um it's just a matter of each School each university has some sort of different breakdown of whether they want to offer a composition credit and a literature credit or if it counts as rhetoric 101 or what you know whatever that particular school is offering or calling those classes but it would not phase out a course um it would not require any additional Staffing because right now I teach English three honors so I see that these would just become my sections of what I had been doing before um and in terms of cost to the district I'm exploring a couple textbook options right now um that I would then present to you at a separate time during text like following the
textbook adoption process but there seems to be two pretty key um anthologies that most schools work with that have a compilation of famous speeches or different journal entries that the students use to study to prep for the exam a couple questions yes so on the core sequencing in order to do the Dual credit classes and Senior year do they have to get a passing score on the AP exam Junior absolutely not this chart is um just the bottom three rows of many many options that we're working with so students could take um any classes any classes they're freshmen sophomore junior year and then still take dual 101 dual 102. and then is the AP exam called AP language yes okay thank you any other questions here time very good thank you thank you very much
okay I'm in a Rollie and we're proposing this class called media persuasion um possibly call it media literacy as well and this would essentially replace what is currently EVC English business Communications their senior year currently that is not um NCAA parent house approved so we have kids that don't take it because they're playing sports in college so we kind of it explored this but essentially um what Jamie just described for AP language this is kind of AP language light we still do the rhetoric we analyze persuasion we analyze media just maybe more Project based and less writing intensive um AP level this would be really your non-honor strike um students it doesn't mean that my honors track kids couldn't take it their senior year it's just kind of um this group of students moved to
this place um so our rationale this group of students do not have a lot of options their senior year for electives in English right now they have brittlet and modern lips and creative writing so we're missing like a big section of kids where they're focusing on non-fiction they just don't have that um in our curriculum for their senior year and I think obviously in the world we're living today being able to read non-fiction critically is huge especially for those kids going straight into the workforce um Shakespeare is great I'm an English teacher I love it but sometimes they're last semester before going into the real world may be looking to some of those messages in the media is going to be more accessible to them or effective um please so again like I said AP
likes and this would be open to like I said anybody so on our skates can take it um typically we wouldn't let anyone that took AP language but those kids are probably going to end up in her AP link class or duel so it's not gonna affect that situation at all um we would open it to Juniors if they could fit it under schedule they just don't typically have room in their schedules for it but it's it wouldn't get them out of it at all and it's just a semester um elective class but it's an English elective schools that are teaching that right now are Dunlap Effingham u-high a couple other ones done like is the one I've talked to the most I've talked to the teacher that's teaching it currently over there um and
he's super open to sharing all his information with me and they have um verified that it is clear and house approved for the NCAA so that um just kind of a reassuring thing that we're not going forth is something that doesn't help our kids but really we're just looking at evaluating media um improving their critical thinking um discussing the impact of media understanding that all media is constructed analyzed opposing viewpoints and power them to be critical thinkers and create media thoughtfully and purposefully so it's a project-based class so instead of writing lots of essays they're going to create media so how do you make a blog post how do you make a social media post that's concise and to your point um and so how do you look at some of those that are out
there and just rein it in um and look at bias and rhetoric um so a typical class we would just start talking about what is media analyze different types of media um short films documentaries podcasts social media and then look at Aristotle of course his return triangle talk about fallacies and persuasive techniques bias that kind of thing and then at the end you know they don't really focus on creating their own messages their own media standards that would be addressed in this class it's kind of a quick overview of everything I'll go back to the course description um but any questions about that um so that wouldn't replace any teachers I currently teach EBC um one section each semester this year so it really would just take that class that's going away and replace so
additional Staffing and with this I cannot find a textbook that would really work for it because it's going to change every year um Jamie and I were talking like in an election year how do you not do a debate so that's not going to be a textbook um but obviously we'll be using lots of incredible sources and really teaching them what credible sources look like um one of the biggest benefits that my kid got from EBC is the College admission essay yes I can't let that peace go but that really is going to go in with your that's selling yourself so we'll talk about how do you sell yourself as uh in a job interview and a resume so we'll keep that viewed any other questions thank you really really potentially uh could be a
pitfall for some of our kids looking at how to revamp it and I know if you were called last year we bought on creative writing understood that there was still a need to continue to bring some non-honors and some choices um to that senior year so I really appreciate their work on that and um and the addition of AP language just continually evolving and reflecting on what we're offering kids and making sure that we're seeing current and meeting their needs um so with that um can I ask one more English yeah absolutely math and science with you I love that so that's right so we're good but um you did write down here also that you're looking to remove speech as a graduation requirement and yeah that kind of took me back a little bit
because um less than a year ago we got an email from Lindsay I mean she had mentioned that before and then I said wait aren't we going to talk about speech and she said that um after further meetings with the English Department that the English Department was super committed to leaving speeches and graduation requirement she told us they felt strongly that publicity is such an important skill that they're committed to it and yeah I we we are committed to public speaking I do think it's important so it's part of the vertical alignment monster and Jamie Jackson Anytime we have built-in um speeches into every course all the way through so that's kind of how committed we are to it um we are still struggling with some kids that can't get through it like it's just
creating an intense amount of anxiety um and so trying to think about how we can make it in a less threatening way and still meet our goals of having speech you know looking at putting it into every every course through there that there be some sort of presentation um the other thing it's very very rare um and even when we met with Parkland last year to have um a student in high school that would take a high school level speech and then follow that with like a dual credit level speech and so that was why we were looking at not only removing that requirement but then saying okay but the kids are currently in there or kids moving forward could take high school speech or you can take Digital Credit speech then just makes sense
for us to just remove that requirement for everyone I mean we have all these students that are having a lot of anxiety and we've Incorporated it maybe we should just remove it as a requirement now so I'll leave that as the board that's not so typically we've always made that kind of change with the incoming group not the group of kids that are already in there and I think that was kind of what was being suggested um in the Border part but um we changed that when the kids were three-fourths of the way through we changed how they were being graded and removed it right so you know I'm just saying we've done that just a little bit ago so if that's how The English Department feels maybe we should just do that one thing
I would say that's just slightly different just something to keep in mind is of course for us was a graduation requirement it wasn't that you didn't have to pass it together you just had to take it it was kind of what we required um and I know there were some other more detailed changes with this this one is actually one that is that's just a little bit different um in the way that it's currently set up but definitely be able to change Jamie do you have anything to add or I just would like to say that we in going through the vertical alignment process you felt confident and comfortable the speaking of listening skills were being covered throughout our courses and thought that they would have to mean regularly enough and authentically announce that students
are getting those skills checked off um we also felt though that speech was a valuable class and should stay part of our offerings so the thing that we were willing to relinquish was making it a graduation requirement because maybe that kind of environment with those stressors are not that's not the best thing for all kids but it could be a great class for and we think it's a great question that's why we're going to continue to operate and continue to offer it in two settings the Dual credit MBA the high school of credit so sorry you said something about you don't you don't speech and then the Dual credit so what happens for the students who may feel like they missed the boat because they hopped on the speech bandwagon and now they don't have
the opportunity for that dual credit class in front of them no okay did I misunderstand it so thank you for asking for certifications so typically in a normal setting like when there's not you have to take our high school speech to graduate there's not a requirement that you have a high school level speech before you take the college dual credit level speech so in most places kids would take either or the way that we had it set up was that you had to take our speech and then don't credit um and and that's just not typical it's a great um Parkland loved it the people in the Communications Department it's great that kids would have an entry-level speech and then a college level speech on top of it so kids can absolutely still take the
Dual credit they wouldn't get um it would get elected credit for the high school speech at that point if um if they were gonna for the High School portion of it right because they already got a high school speech credit so they get elected credit for us and they would get calm for dual well they aren't that credit for speech we wouldn't double issue does that make sense yeah if they take our speed the name of the beginning of an English credit for that speech class if later they take do all of them we wouldn't give them another high school English credit we would just give them an elective credit and then they get the Department credit if they passed I see thank you okay I'm with you now appreciate it so the other thing
while we're talking about dual credit that kind of goes with us I want to share just a little bit it's a new um a new law that's come out that goes into effect on January 1st um so I've been working with Parkland on how this new law impact our kids for us so um that'll include English final one or two Communications and then some of the questions um that Mr Ryan's will talk about in a minute but the new law is that goes into effect on January 1st is intended to open dual credit to all students and make it accessible so what that means is not all kids would get dual credit but often might have the availability to sit in that dual credit class um be exposed to the content exposed to the curriculum
they would get high school credit then at that point if they do they did to be a Parkland student and to receive dual credit for that that also when they're only getting high school credit for that course allows us to modify the curriculum um and so let's say they have to do this much work for dual credit they might only have to do this much work to get those for it so that's something more I'm so looking at right now that's super new or super new to Parkland it's new to us so far and what that's going to look like for our kids moving forward but I do want to make you aware of that change in the law so well I mean I'll ask but just that you're thinking of it so would the
kids have to commit in the beginning to whether or not they're going to take it yes okay yes that's a great question it might um because um I mean you would still you can't go back and finish the course because you might have taken it under high school guidelines you haven't been accepted the course and all of those pieces um and then on the other end if you did sign up for dual credit you know we're still under all of those guidelines in terms of dropping the core you know that timeline for dropping a course and things like that so that part won't change can't send in the Dual credit uh year realize that you have a c and then drop it right before the final those but I do appreciate the state's commitment to
um providing more opportunity so it's great to other questions all right let's hear about math and science doesn't have another English class Sports I don't um I'm excited to be here in person though to thank you guys um for passing construction geometry I'm dreaming of the day when we're building a home on site on campus at the high school it's a little daunting but exciting we're requesting wings of classrooms right yeah and so grateful that got three more classes are proposed to tonight coming down the pike um so the first of which uh we'll start on the mathem of things before we get to science um this is as you can see on the slide uh equivalent to Math 107 at Parkland uh definitely oriented for kids who are not going to do a math
or science or stem intensive career path um there's some of the basic topics that are covered in gen Ed math and bam three hours in college credit that they could take that we would tentatively Envision offering this in the fall semester um because it is very traditionally coupled like in the St Joe offers 107 but they also couple it with this next class yeah okay uh 108 which is intro to applied stats and um this we would offer in the spring and uh also similar things you've got another three hours of college credit um either of these semester-long classes would be enough to fulfill the Parkland graduation requirement for math if if a kid chose to take only one of them in isolation and so there's a lot of choices here um that kids would
have as seniors potentially as Juniors but for right now just to keep it simple this is geared towards seniors um who want to take a fourth year of math um and then the last bit of information on this 107 108 sequence if we offer them one in the fall one in the spring um we wouldn't have any additional Staffing this would kind of be a reapportionment of kids who are right now probably in discrete math which is also taught by Mrs Potter and she would be the instructor for this so it's it's kind of like a one-for-one trade um and I think to better serve our kids we would transition back to offering trig in both the fall and the spring so if a kid wanted to take trig in combination with 107 or 108
they could couple that um and the hope is not only are they potentially knocking out six hours of college credit but it might spark a vocational interest that wasn't there before even though these classes are geared towards non-math or non-science Majors doesn't mean it might not ignite an interest in a kid um so that's the method of things before I get to the science part and questions on 107 108 tandem all right uh by the way to get into the math courses I would miss not to mention this uh to qualify kids would either have to get a 5 30 on the SAT Math section which is college readiness or they can take the Alex test and Parkland has expressed willingness to come out on site and give that kids a test here in behind
it so yeah had some really good meaningful discussions with them over the last couple weeks leading up to tonight uh this next one dual credit physics uh just so you know for context right now we already offer three different levels of physics you offer AP Physics for engineers um I'm painting with broad Strokes here but like uh we offer a dual credit class uh that's year-long that would be is basically for kids going into any kind of medical career ranging from nursing to doctors and anywhere in between and then we offer just a general physics one class that's also year long uh basically this would take the place of the year-long General Physics 1 class um and we would convert it so the kids would get four hours of credit as long as they're taking
the class uh very similar to the maths end of things Mr Potter would be teaching it right now he teaches physics one so again this would just be a reapportionment where we're trying honestly to entice more kids to take and be exposed to physics because right now that number is hovering around a little less than a quarter of our kids are exposed to physics when they leave here and so I know that's a point of concern within our department and hopefully this would be an enticement to expose more kids to physical sciences before they leave the high school any questions on the signs are you are you saying that physics one that we offer now is comparable to visual credit yes this class talking to Eric is a little more conceptual but we would still
Infuse a lot of the stuff we do in physics one into this 120 129 year-long class so it would take the place of physics one we would no longer offer that so basically taking a non-credit bearing class and replacing it with a credit bearing class and hopefully that will incentivize kids to access the course so that's what the importance of this new law is right so we would still have the kids that didn't meet the requirements to get in to the Dual credit visits they would still be able to see physics under this new law they would take it for high school credit under our old physics one model so it's on this like um marrying physics one and physics 120. the 129 is lab yes not perfect and so so those two classes would
be taught simultaneously and just have different requirements in terms of like projects or like how would you take it for high school credit and how does is that different than the Dual credit like in terms of the amount of work that you do or is it just strictly how we allocate the credit yeah I think it's the latter okay um because at Parklands okay and so it was kind of in this leeway area where they were like all right it's a little bit longer than a semester for us but not for them especially when you couple with like Dr Rumble said the 129 the lab component of it and so in discussing things with Mr Potter before um tonight and the month leading up to this it was like okay we can Infuse a lot
of the more the math-centric portion of this and really give kids a solid background and still attend to the requirements that Parkland has um I hope I'm answering your questions I think so so if you want to take the Dual credit piece of it you would have to do whatever the requirements are for Parkland set a fee based and do they test or what is the requirement part for Parkland do you know that there is it's okay for okay okay yeah I think there's some kind of a very low bar reading requirements as well but like it's it's definitely Erica Sherby this class is more accessible with kids than physics one right now and I wouldn't say physics one is exclusive the door would be opened even wider to kids who could take so so
a chat so a student who is been accepted to Parkland for any credit class would probably be clear for this one or is there a requirements classes I would assume so okay I want to say there's there's some course called ccb086 that that he assured me would not be a hindrance I don't think so like I I think if kids really are inclined to take this then we're going to make that happen great okay thank you and we would be the only High School offering this we're going to be trailblazing if we get your blessing on it that's just what we need is yourself and this is for senior seniors you get the great introduction to physics that's accessible for kids who are not engineers and Engineers right I mean it's a really fun good
experience to learn some of those guys yeah and again the hope is if they did take it as a junior not a huge faction of kids but like a handful might be like you know what I could see myself going down this road and Senior year that could take dual credit or AP um there's nothing boring them from doing that um when you look at both the math and the things and the science and things um I know Chad's always saying I love that he's always about like what's our why why are we doing this um I'm excited about these three courses because yes we're broadening the accessibility uh I think this is just this is a very purposeful investment in our middle bandwidth of kids in our regular pathway whereas a lot of times
we're focusing on either a poll of the groups and I think this is this is our next Frontier in our department I think it's really targeted invest in important to these kids and give them opportunities and so that's why these three classes it's like me um any questions you have all right thank you very much thank you very much I do want to just like these are all like relation um requirements for kids for the they meet their General um and general foreign education classes so general education core classes so they need those um requirements which has kind of been our goal as we've been adding dual credit courses we want to help kids work towards that um yes and not just electives right now yeah so thank you for the jet items we're going
to do a quick conference after this all right we are back from our settlement right and we are it's an international visiting teaching program drama so um I believe there's an agreement in the report packet for the board to consider in terms of signing um regarding visiting International teachers um this agreement does not commit us to a teacher it only provides us the option to do that so currently there were 30 districts in the state with mous that are participating in this program 24 districts a school year and the school year there are 94 International teachers place around the state most of those teachers are foreign language teachers but they're able to come and teach in any areas to which they are licensed in their home state or their home country so um if they
were a math teacher country they could come here and they would be and be a reciprocal license if they would receive that to teach math um so this is kind of one of our ideas to uh secure a foreign language teacher for next year you know we currently have an opening that was we were not able to fill this year we absorbed those students in other classes um in terms of additional costs Beyond just hiring a foreign language teacher or a teacher like we usually would um the biggest cost is we are required to transport them from the airport to the district for that first flight over and we are responsible for seven days of temporary housing those seven days of temporary housing could be a hotel or it could be with a host family
that's up to the districts on how they would like for that to work um they we already provide many of the other things are required such as a mentor um professional development we provide benefits and competitive salaries so all of those things are are kind of taken care of in Terms of the timeline um asks that we consider going ahead moving forward with this so that we could the district could participate in host district meetings and discussions that start in January um typically in Spring is when candidates are matched with districts and districts are providing the opportunity to interview those candidates and select the ones that they would like to hire so that's the other nice thing is the district still has control you're not just given a teacher you have opportunity to interview and
select the teacher that you would like um it's been very successful nearby Rantoul the Urbana-Champaign have all participated so this is not anything new in the area and you have the option to extend but it is a five-year Max so they will not extend the Visa or the license beyond the five years so any questions the agreement is for a whole school year it's kind of taking a year at a time with the five-year mask more we can take action on this night if we're comfortable doing that all the time we're starting to think about it when you do that too because I clearly we want to take attention sooner rather than later so we would be able to participate in January had not even without me doing much time to move through this our
although it appears to be fairly straightforward I think what is your preference does anybody feel inclined to hold off did this agreement go through legal no no we did not have the head office I haven't had a chance to read it read it sure it's um since it's just a boiler place yes yes so it's a federal program that is the administers on behalf of the federal you think so it's a federal program no I was just trying to no it's a great question that's a good question given that I wouldn't have a problem moving forward tonight I just want to be like I mean you said this but I just want to say it again just because I want to be really clear I understood we still get to hire a person and we
can say no to a person yes so we can go through that's a great question we go through like one like if we get a person and we say no then yeah so so first things first if we keep this position posted or typically if we've had a position that's been posted we repost and this like we'll repost after the holidays right so we can repost if we find somebody locally when we repost and we don't need it we are not obligated to this program um but we have to have the mou to move forward but we can say we're not so like I said there were 30 districts that have mous only 24 participating this year so that's option number one and option number two is yes so my understanding is they'll explain to
us in January kind of that polling process for interviewing and partnering but yes we have control over who we interview when we interview and who we hide and this is a one-year deal so because it's not a good Advantage okay so I think yes it can be that I think the initial one is up to three years and then there's an extension beyond the three years plan so you can do year by year for a maximum of three years and then you have to do an extension yeah and what's the process if for some reason it's not a good match it's not working out so during the school year I you know what I don't know I'm sure it would probably follow like ours like right now we're in agreement with the team I mean
we're under contracts with teachers for that year and so we probably would go through the same thing we do with teachers right now where we evaluate we provide resources and trying to get that contract and then it's a non-renewal at the end of the year okay so even if we had a three-year agreement to begin with it's still a choose to renew for the next year or not so I I will I will call her and double check that for you um in terms of so we know before we commit to a teacher we committee for the full three years okay and I just didn't take good enough notes I don't think to be able to accurately that's okay so yeah it's a lot of it oh absolutely yeah and I think that will be
part of that introduction for new districts and those discussions that are coming in January yeah thank you thank you thanks is there a motion to uh so look second Tennessee is there a further discussion yeah yes McMurray yes Hennessy yes McCoy yes number three I just want to start off by introducing hopefully there who is from Clifton Larson Allen as and she has she's our principal basically over all of the audit process she's not actually here most of the time but she's over all of it does the review and I want to thank this has been lots and lots of hours um her team's part in my team's part so I do appreciate everybody's hard work to get to this point thank you hi hope wheeler principal with Clifton Larson Allen and we didn't just
complete the fiscal year June 30 2022 audit last week and I think you've all received that now um we did just to talk a little bit about the audit process we did come out I think it was in May and did preliminary procedures we'll call it um we select random transactions from throughout throughout the year payroll transactions General disbursement transactions and test those to see the the internal controls um that we're we are told in place are actually working and effective and then we come back in July after the end of the fiscal year and do the rest of our testing employee tests random Bank reconciliations um we'll get year-end bank reconciliation we confirm revenues with the state and federal government as examples overall just to talk about that oh we also then I just
want to mention pick random samples from your activity funds too because those still being outliers all coming through your system that's still in the unique circumstances so we can see examples of those um we had a few adjusting entries from the audit process um only one larger one that's in your packet that we noted certain architectural expenses have to be included in this part of capital projects so it was just a classification item between line items for the isbe chart of accounts um the only other finding as far as overall financial statements was that we report each year that you hire us to prepare the financial statements and so that's settled in the report um but overall the annual financial report or the afir the isbe requires you have an unmodified opinion on the regulatory
basis of accounting so a clean opinion on the isbe basis of accounting um one change one of the unique items like Heather mentioned this year that made this year a little bit longer and tougher was a new government auditing standard gasby 87 on leases so that required Heather and her group gathered all the leases or contracts that could even have embedded leases and those had to be analyzed and determined if they need to be reported differently as capital assets and the lease liability more than most people want to know but a new standard that had to be implemented this year also another piece to the audit is always your federal funding audit your federal expenses as I'm sure you're aware significantly more Federal expenditures in the past year 5 million this year in total compared
to 3.6 million last year which was a higher amount last year even we typically have mostly tested one major program each year we have to go through some formulas to determine how many to test and it's usually been Christie Northrup and she's she was happy to pass this along to other groups this year this year we had to test the Esser program and three programs the Child Nutrition program Essa program and Jared loved us this year too relating to the emergency connectivity fund program so three major programs took more time and effort too so we do appreciate everyone in the finance office I.T all all the groups that help us out and answer all our questions and pull documents for us um because they do go on and on as soon as we get one
question resolved another one comes up so but we appreciate everything there we did have one finding in relation to the single audit or the federal program testing and that was related to the Child Nutrition program there was we have to select a sample of reports of meal claims and there were discrepancies between the sporting documentation and what was filed with isbe as far as the claims there they were we selected four out of the 12 months and one it'd be off one way in One Direction and another Direction so they netted out they weren't big differences but we report everything there with my federal program so they were small they netted to a small difference and project that to the full year it was not significant in total but report it more as an internal
control item just to make sure those are being reviewed closely to make sure the right numbers are being submitted on the claims and I believe Heather already has the process in place to crack that I had to have them corrected four times uh reminds me that I'm talking about Arbor Art and service provider then we also issued outside of those a governance letter letter to you as a governing board um just talk about a lot of the same things I have here about the address adjusting entries No Pest adjustments um and overall clean opinion there's no management letter this year that's usually other minor recommendations or a few items we've reported or relieverably to the finance office just some recommendations on on several things but nothing of significance we get the data collection form submitted
today and certified by myself and Heather that's um the federal fund spending again in a different format to the federal audit Clearinghouse and then the last piece that is your Consolidated year and financial report which is a data requirement that's done and once all these other pieces were done we can now submit the kind of the cipher we call it for short so that's a quick summary of all the reports I think that you have in the audit process and just available for any questions if anyone has any any questions how is this audit different than something that would be done with like a forensic audit um I am not involved with forensic audits so I don't I don't have experience with forensic audits a financial statement on it isn't designed to find fraud um
they did our standards did add a few procedures it's maybe 10 years ago now just to ask more questions about fraud we do what we call fraud inquiries and we talk to certain people every year people in charge of Finance kind of CEO CFO type positions but then we also talked to random um employees even just to say hey is there anything that seems unusual to you or higher risk to you to get different viewpoints of that and if there's something that comes up that's unique we would dig a little further but definitely not forensic in nature I recognizable motion is that in fact someone to the second thank you yes and Rex lamb yes Tennessee yes Keith Schultz yes can I come yes okay thank you very much that we approved the intern through
Google is presented that's great it's actually great to stay in the same place I saw three percent increase to three percent decrease I guess three percent decrease until something three percent increase all right uh there's no other questions yes Miami yes henrix McMurray yes Macomb yes number five yes it is necessary to conduct a hearing in Open Session to deny um admission to events or our property uh even for a generally by the name of Tom Brokaw okay he was given an option to waive this I did not do that so um all right just for the record he was involved after the vehicle from our property is he the parent of a student or unrelated she came onto our property and stole a student I didn't I did not have the script changed and
yeah I was just asking general questions sure yeah not related that I know of the University okay all right so here we go first of all I need a motion and a second and a vote to improve the school board president for your signs over the resides over the year so it's your motion to do that second hand okay I can do this all in favor opposed like we know the deductions from Colorado education president attorney is available on video we have all of our board members here and school officials I'm not Mentalist everybody I'll let uh Jody I mean some two board members I'm not here yeah when you have two board members that are not here but the board members have been president on the University uh school board will hear evidence in
person the direction of the school board I'll be presiding I'll begin by explaining the purchase this hearing procedures would be that will be deployed in misconduct after the provisions of Illinois school code 105 the Michael Powell statutes five slash 22 to 20 or 24-24 which deals with the makers of discipline in public schools having the codes available if anyone would like to examine the girl in the law before ordering this hearing during this here in our Administration and then how confident who's on here we've been ready to introduce Witnesses and evidence concerned what happened whether or not cloud whether the question was about what happened whether or not what happens a violation school code whether or not you did that no further action will be taken over the course of our own parts of the
hearing how far from the right to present evidence in his defense uh he may be represented by the attorney's office I'm not a lawyer the school board members not lawyers former Rules of Evidence I will rule on objections of their army but my rulings will generally came early to the school board here evidence decided for itself whether any peace of evidence is important or not should we get Farm field with his attempting prejudices proceeds officers back on track yeah okay we're gonna skip apart with the defendant or a parent is um cousin since the parent or the defendant in this case would be the defendant is not present I need to verify with administrators whether they were notified of the hearing and enter the record of that letter into evidence where they notified yes the
letter was sent on September 26th of 25 . these proceeds will respect Kyle Smith was right against self-determination skip the question to the defender uh word of the part where the administration Center who's all relevant school policies rules regulations of the square heads for those of the year yes uh board policy ate 30 specifically States and no personal school ground shall perform yet um any of the following acts the two acts that we um noted are the violation of any Illinois Law and damage or threat to damage property on September 20th of 2022 Mr Kaufman did um go through the parking lot of Lincoln Trail Elementary School entered into one of the vehicles of our one of our bus drivers took some personal belongings and proceeded on a bicycle down to Muhammad Seymour High School
at which point he entered a student vehicle and took the student vehicle upon retrieval of the vehicle the police did find it had a prescription from one of our bus drivers the keys to one of our bus drivers vehicles and um several syringes and rubber bands were present in our students car upon going to the satellite jail there was also another form of narcoticon in it as well so um we think that the breaking and entering on one of our driver's Vehicles as well as the theft of one of our students Vehicles as well as American Navy if I live there are warns that and that there are no guys tomorrow at Seymour High School that they're aware of that you would like to see a ban from events and property for two years okay
uh you wish to make another opening statement no he presented your case are there any other Witnesses no Administration anything else to present yeah [Music] presented the information closing arguments by either side no the record show is part of it here is completed board me now delivering a recession certainly evidence presented whether or not uh conference commitment fraction which he was accused and there was accused of the punishment should be in this recommendation Administration from the end of the school property for two years is there any discussion on any of that comments is there any particular reason we chose two years rather than forever or sure um the the reasoning behind the two years is that generally if we're going to administer discipline um that's kind of the max so I thought that we could
pretty much just look at a two-year so there's there's nothing scientific the United States right that's that's just what I felt like um is there any okay so my understanding is that then we are saying to him you can't come here for two years yeah it doesn't really seem to have any teeth would we be better off asking the state's attorney say that put a restraining order on you okay so that he cannot come on our property or sure so so after we approved this then I'll work with officer Alfonso if if this is approved I'll work with officer Alfonso and we'll issue a no trespass um as well but the first step of this is that board policy is that I don't have the only Authority that I have to ban somebody from our
school property or um being at events is temporarily until the board has a hearing an open session so I'll work with officer Alfonso on that from there it's kind of key is a former student I'm sorry is this a former student no I have no idea oh okay so just so I am understanding passing this is the first part of taking the next step to have something through the police department that's more substantial in nature like a restraining order so so my thought on that is is that we're past this I will notify officer Alfonso that this is is in place and then talk to him as far as then I'm assuming the next step is that we usually don't trespass order as well with that look at the first step is that when we
want to look at something like that is that I don't have the authority to ban somebody from school property so the legal side is addressed separately from yeah so do we yeah I I heard the facts but are we really sure that he's the guy that did this I mean we want to make sure before we like the police have reviewed videos and that I've reviewed the police reports now that being said there's a several legal tracks so there is video that the police department and their events that this is the correct person yes yes is there um the ability to no longer the two years if we want to I will have to find that out is interested yeah there's no reason that we have to think that he has any legitimate right to
be on property for any reason so when you've happened you saw the resolution your motion to approve the resolution as presented with a two-year as you're saying this is her further discussion um when we take the next steps are you able to update us with where that comes that would be great yeah anything else Tennessee yes hello yes Murray yes ma'am yes yes and that concludes our hearing moving on to the number six Dr Lee resolution is for half himself to December yes it's my understanding that normally um the board of education has the Board of Education vice president be the delegate um for the assembly as the Illinois Association of school boards fall conference it's also my understanding that Dr Hendricks will not be attending so um if you have the pleasure this evening
of deciding who would like to volunteer to be the Delegate for the school district that's one step also the resolutions if you did not receive them by hard copy are in your board packet and um if you would like to review those at your leisure and fill out your own boards recommendation I can compile those from wherever the delegate is this is the last page in there I don't that was just my thought on it is that you could peruse because they're pretty lengthy you can approve so is it your own measure and then send those to me I can compile them and share the results with whoever the delegates going to be so if you need it out here and it needs to be someone who is on the list and gone Jody who's
this Sonny or Justin I can do it all right well I moved it just to serve as our delegate ISB second all right further discussion on Justin I'm gonna move to amend that motion to add in addition in order to avoid the impropriety or the appearance of the propriety District employees and board members will not accept food or beverages from vendors or firms who do business with the district past present or anticipate okay and that's emotion I'm sorry okay the discussion on the amendment let's handle that first uh would that include attending there are multiple receptions of their response because that include attending perceptions I would think so that's going to be very difficult to do you guys wanted to read events of being up there is no network of people when you network receptions
um so that's interesting my other concern quite frankly is I had the opportunity to have other folks under race and how to save the district so they become money over the years so I put that on the table I know I they've had different folks I think almost every year uh do something for us other local school districts that have adopted similar roles Saint Joe and Heritage decided not to do this in order to avoid the parents died I I don't know I guess they are going to receptions any other comments or discussion on the uh all right I think when I when I went we actually attended a seminar where forensic um spoke about these types of things and brought it up as a concern and certainly made the suggestion that um it's problematic
and I remember this because one of the other attendees said but you threw a big party last night and invited everybody and it was very clear that they kind of said well that was us so that's different but I think that this idea of grappling with going to events where people you do business with provide food provide drink provide access is problematic and certainly can give the appearance of pay to play and there are other Industries like the medical industry has had significant changes in how they approach these types of things with for instance drug reps and drug rug lunches and so these types of changes I think are appropriate when you are working with vendors that you also then engage with in terms of business um and I just think it's important that we
remember that we spend the taxpayers money so I certainly do not want to have any possible what word am I looking for the appearance of us not respecting the taxpayers money and uh I I just think that this is an arena where it's very difficult to do these types of things and then sign contracts for lots of money with these same firms that provide those services and not have it look Shady so good on the other times yes um lamb no um no he Hennessey yes Macomb no all right we're back into the original the original motion which was for uh Justin yes um Schultz yes lamb yes Murray yes uh Keith uh Tennessee yes henricks Macomb yes all right so mark your shoes number seven sorry do you just want those via email whatever's
easiest okay thank you all right number seven division policy 5.185 actually yes um during our negotiations we did um change our uh approach to the Family Medical Leave Act um in years prior it said in our contract that it was beginning September 1st and ending August 31st of the next year we had been advised by bushing Human Resources as well as that agreed to it in our collective bargaining agreement to have fmlid on a road development calendar so we are recommending the first reading this evening to change the Border policy to reflect our collective bargaining agreement then we would all fall underneath that umbrella any questions about that number eight rental space is a sentence this is just continuing the simply the same price at Sangamon for the I.T Department until we address the additional
space needs that we have um obviously we have some people in kind of makeshift areas before even I think the private in the closet so um so we we still need that additional space until we get more space here but I mean it's the same price it's up to five years that we continue to continue to renew the great agreement hopefully we will not have to buy and so this is to spend another year at the same price yes approving that is there a motion to do that discussion we'll come over please Murray yes yes Hendrix shelves because ma'am yes okay yes number nine goal setting down here with yes when we discussed having a goal setting session um I did not receive any feedback about what the process would look like so just kind
of wanted to follow up if there was any any feedback or I know that we had mentioned a facilitator we mentioned myself um you know I know that somebody said they didn't want the association of school boards um is there any appetite for me to find a different facilitator is it that you want me to facilitate it just just looking for some feedback and maybe a timeline what the word would be interested in doing I was comfortable doing something like that um I can do it I'd be more comfortable participating with the board and having a facilitator um if but but I'm open um if the board um wants to go into closed session to do it it has to do with the association of school boards if the board would like to have a
facilitator that's not an association's towards there's several that I've worked with that I can at least get information from that we could talk about what their processes look like or I can just go do some research on facilitating and filter numbers you know we correct we've had a previous discussion with our last board where we talked about goals it was not District goals per se but it was a discussion of goals and um sort of just had all the board members right down the three goals or something that they wanted and bring them to the meeting and then we just had a discussion about you could compile them without the person's name next to who submitted them and just go through and talk about sort of what we what direction we want the district to
go from each person participating and so it we're not involved particularly you being a facilitator more than a leader of a group but an active participant because the goals have to be created with you it can't be if you can't be over here and the goals are created you have to be part of the process because you're the so I mean it was not like a big formal thing that has rules it was away from the board and it worked quite well we just sat around and talked about what it was that we wanted to see happen and then you know some people didn't like this one it's a movie like this one and we sort of came together then with a set of goals that everyone was comfortable with some some of the goals
were the exact same as some other people in school you know you could see where people love the direction the board has for the district it was low stress was there any activities as far as how to measure them and if they were accountable or well those are the things we talked like that's what we talk about it like so here's the goal so I mean I'll just pick up for Christine over here save the gold was we're going to um have more uh addressing of the needs of dyslexic kids right um which I just say that because she said she's doing that right so it's so then we would say oh yeah we think you know in the next year we'll ask the director of special ed to come to us with a program
or plan to do that and you know and then we would talk about how we might see that happen and then it was really friendly and working together and it was quite seemed to work quite well when we've done that before what about stakeholders yeah that's that's gonna be my question guys I you know I listened the first part and I think that's important and I think one of the things that if we're if we're going to do this I would like to do it right and for me I would like to have focus groups I would like to have Community voice I would like to have people involved in Sharing what is it that you really feel like we need to focus on where are we missing the mark you know I mean right
now we hear a lot about referendum there's a lot more to schooling right now than building the building so what is it that that might what does that look like for our community members um you know we were elected to be here but that doesn't mean that I'm every voice out there I I would love to have those voices in the room um and I think that probably needs to be managed by a facilitator of some sort to kind of pull so you're talking about yeah yeah I mean really even even just to determine I mean yes we could do it that way but I mean even just determining basic goals like I I just I mean Colleen that's a great a great thing that you just laid out and I wish it would work
like that I I don't I I just I'm I'm I've been disheartened over the last several meetings and I am worried that it will be a bigger mess than anything accomplishing being able to accomplishing I think so I I mean to have a facilitator who is outside of this group I think would be helpful it'll allow you Dr Lee to participate in the conversation but I also feel like it's really important if we're going to be setting goals that we have voice in those conversations in those goals I completely agree with the Strategic vision for the district which needs to happen obviously for long-term cleaning okay I guess I feel that's different than sort of shorter term goals like what we want to do in the short term versus a huge I mean I agree
a strategic plan which includes a lot of people a valuable your previous districts for you created a whole strategic plan I guess I was envisioning something more short-term maybe Wild we talk about how to launch an actual strategic plan that would last for a long time right like what do we want to accomplish this school year for this District where do we want to go or the next two school years or something as opposed to of full-on strategic plan which I think we need to short term I guess there's the medium term right like I mean we couldn't even agree on short-term board Norms like I don't understand how we're going to agree on both well last night process short term in terms and the long-term goals all the different elements and their work there
we start having to be careful uh so everything kind of works together that's certainly um I think that's a better use of time well in order to appropriately ask for input you have to have categories of what's important to you so for example uh we have major headings that we have facilities here so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that under those three headings each board member could come with three or four ideas under facilities curriculum and behavior about what it is that's important to them to give us some direction as we ask the community so for example I don't know that the Strategic plan is going to Encompass a behavioral approach or implementing an anti-bullying program the Strategic plans don't tend to get to that granular level so while the
Strategic plan is important I think there are some functional things that need to be addressed and measured and monitored in order for us to actually make progress in them as we move forward so I think it would be possible to Define the major headings for lack of a better word uh or major categories that we thought were important and have board members come with under Behavior what do we think is most important and how could we think about addressing those and then if we want to take that information turn those into survey questions and get input from the community then we are better to do that but you can't I don't know how just throwing open hey what would you like to see without a framework is going to be beneficial to us um the
board has to do some pre-work when you're talking about goal setting to define the parameters and I think part of what we stumbled around before is that a lot of discussion was how is this board going to work together and what are the confines that we're going to put in place about how we direct people to act and that's a very different conversation to have than as a district what are the types of things that we think need to be addressed and deserve a level of focus and so we're going to put some measurement on those areas in order to provide data to move forward I just think it's a different discussion um so I think we could do it if there are other people who don't think we can do it then we're kind
of dead in the water before we start but with the right parameters you know as simple as Post-it notes and I people coming with ideas and you know I don't think when we talk about the wellness of our kids that there will be a lot of disagreement it will become a matter of prioritization and focus rather than disagreeing altogether that's just my opinion maybe I have connected to that so okay you're a couple different things Colleen was talking about what's was due to some kind of short and medium term and imposition what Mega you just described sounded more like laying the ground doing some of that pre-work ing those two things don't necessarily line up maybe they could um I would have suggested we're going to do some organizational type of stuff to look at
creating categories and and paths to go down or processing places for you to plan that we would do that with whoever is going to oh guidance from that process whether that's not going to be a little different because often we would want everything to do whatever groundwork we did a manner to be helpful to whatever process was we were going to do so I think the problem is if we wait till the Strategic plan is done we have very real problems and issues that I read about on Facebook all the time that never get addressed for example you know there was just an incident described on Facebook and I get that it's Facebook and I get that that's not the greatest place to get information but it had to do with bullying on our buses
I'm not going to wait until the Strategic plan is done to figure out how we can put a focus on bullying on the buses and start to actually move towards solving that and the Strategic plan is not going to involve that anyway strategic plan tends to be high level 30. and I think what we are missing right now is the ability to look at that 5000 foot level about where are the areas in this District that need attention right away and if we don't do the work to set goals prioritized then how do we spend our money how do we know when tough decisions come whether we should be funding this program or that program because we haven't done any of that work and so I actually think that although they're related I don't think
that we can put a dependency on those if we have any prayer of making any progress in some of these very real issues that are affecting our kids right now and so the board I think owes the kids the time in the room to say when it comes to some of these issues what is it that we're going to do to actually implement a way to look at those issues that affect the kids and not wait until somebody else comes and tells us how to do a strategic planner is not going to be able to tell us any better than what we know we live in this community we have kids in these schools we understand the issues um I don't think outside people are going to come with with answers that we can't come
up with ourselves I think the problem is that the discussion has not happened so I would never just bring those answers I'm saying they're going to facilitate the conversations not disagreeing with that I'm saying that to answer Max's point of it's the Strategic plan that we have to wait in order to set that up I am not interested in waiting on some of these lower level issues I think that's where the goal setting needs to start immediately and then if we need to layer over the top of that strategic plan I'm fine with that I think that they're related but I think to have them be dependent um is a mistake because it allows problems to just continue and snowball and get bigger when we could put some focus on them have some ideas on
how we address them and some real work towards skin Solutions into place for kids so let's go back to basketball I saw the most and it was very concerning and I would agree with that I don't see yeah maybe this is the difference and approach I mean it's just not I don't know I don't know we I don't feel and it was me that we need to sit here and do goals for rolling out buses I think this is my thinking we turned around your week and say you know what if if what is described on Facebook is going on that's unacceptable we need to spend and the folks the report to you need to figure out if that's going on what are we going to do about it and I say that for a
couple of reasons because they're they're the ones first of all they need you know we're serious so that's not acceptable but the second all they're the ones dealing with it every day and they're the ones that are going to figure out how to best address it I don't pretend ERS I said I'm not written the school bus a long time I know a little bit about how it must work on cameras I believe that some level of us have much detail around what that works but those people do and those are the people that knows so again it's Facebook so what is the real problem you don't know but whatever level it appears there's something going on right because somebody's writing something so they're the ones well I agree with you totally yeah we are
not going to solve all these not our job to sell all these problems right we're the board we're not the administrators I I think we're kind of saying the same thing in this regard like it's not going to be as specific as what happened on bus number 92 right but the board might come and say Kenny we have concerns in our district that we want to make sure that our district prioritizes kids feeling safe coming to and from school that's going to involve bullying on the buses that's going to bust Behavior events could involve having buses that's going to involve how we route right in all of these things and we might say one of the priorities we have that we want to please address safety on buses we've heard so many stories over the
years we all have kids there and then he will know this is one of the things the board wants me to work on and he will work with his staff to figure out how to address that need right it's not that we're going to come here and say the answer is put on six bus monitors per bus and you know whatever it would be it's his job to figure that out but it's our job to set a sort of the vision for what it is we want to see accomplished and I guess that's sort of the same thing you're saying you're saying we would tell Kenny we would like to see this and we think it's important that this not happen and I'm saying we should come up with some of those things so we
can tell Kenny here are the things we find important that by law the job of the board members is to create that Vision to create the goals to work with the superintendent to accomplish goals that put forward a high quality education for every student right I mean that's what we're here for so to sit around and say here are the things that our community has told us that they won and that we're here we'll help Kenny know what to do to meet the expectations of the work and to move the district forward so it's different I guess than a strategic plan which certainly needs to happen and that's a huge undertaking this I'm envisioning to be a meeting where we actually just talk about what it is we want to see happen in our districts
and I would see the goal that we sing is you know can is it by March possible for you to work with your team and assess safety on buses and come back and say we've decided that in order to do this we need a monitor on every bus and that's what this is and we can't do that right away but that informs the board in terms of budgeting and how we make decisions moving forward if we've said that this is important enough then we're going to have to take a hard look at how we spend our money in order to get whatever it is that they recommend to us or to to step towards that but but it's got to be a back and forth we're not going to solve the problem we just have
to give direction on what it is that we need and are asking The District employees to focus on and bring data to you so that it can form inform our decisions because we're the ones who decide how the money gets spent so if we don't understand where the gaps are we aren't doing that as effectively and efficiently as we can and we just don't have enough extra money to not do that officially yes this I know when you've interviewed and I remember the exact pieces of parameters of this but you mentioned from the first several months I don't think it was six months what are your what year big part of music was you want to listen to get out to kind of get a feel from the district and then kind of create your
thoughts online for sure because there's something downhill along with that sure you remember what it was in college tonight and take notes and then after six months give me the things that that came up in the conversations so that that pretty much equates to African first of the year foreign concerns you bring the results of kind of what you've seen in the first six months you know to see what commonalities there are and what we need to buy together that might be tied on this list that was just I had in the last two minutes so admittedly that's not very well thought through that it seems like it might make some sense thank you um something else we can look at um census for something that kind of goes back to when you were hired
amen you know I don't know yard s education leadership solutions they could host because high priority license short and intermediate Journal um I think you know conversation we have exactly teaching plan but to give us something that would give you something direction to head as we close out this year how do you make sense it makes sense I'm just not sure what you're saying in terms of actual actions I'm saying the action would well when I propose if you schedule something for after the first of the year that we would have Els a possibly hopes that um you're talking to him anyway on a regular basis it would have kind of a priority list of things that you've seen their first six months before you think we need to work on we would bring some
priority items that we think the suggestion over here and we all bring two or three or five or whatever magic numbers and we take you know our five lists or five or seven lists we take Dr Lee's list well and we see what that shakes out and what we determined as priorities and I think we would like I think you know we clearly have our ideas I think Dr Lee and I didn't share them with you because I just thought about it but it seems like it kind of makes sense Max can I give you a solution well we're not we're not in ground you can talk to me after me when I vote on anything here tonight anyways okay because this discussion will go on for another half an hour and I gotta get
