to order at this time and just a by way of explanation for those that have just joined us we're in this format right here because there's a flu bug going around the office and we don't want people to get that stomach crud or whatever it is and so we've chose to go into this format right now so we have a little bit of space we'll begin with uh Pledge of Allegiance and I will lead his net pledge with everybody please stand I pledge also we have a full board in attendance Diana Butler is attending by phone and she'll be contributing online that way Dr Rhino turns the time over to you just to get us started thank you Mr Merrill I'll turn the time over to Dr D or if it's Rick Ricky Ricky Lynn

are you running are you've directed today a person of many I will not be singing okay I'm just the mic person okay thank you there you are doc I didn't see you there good to see you we'll turn the time over to you Dr D if we could have everybody stand for the national anthem [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and the rockets [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you [Applause] tonight thank you that was wonderful we have some extremely talented kids if I had known that was going to be the song we wouldn't have set the pledge so we're double duty today thank you very much it was excellent somebody asked me recently how many kids you had I said 2004 and those kids represent some of

the 2000 that we have they're amazing so we sure we sure are proud of them next we wanted to uh about correct me if I'm wrong Lauren but about three or four years ago at least that Mr Waldo approached us and said hey I need where I'm worried about teacher housing with in that week Lauren and I Laura Mr Webb and I the high school principal have been talking about some of the challenges he had with new hires and there were a couple of proposals that were suggested and so we didn't get a chance to present Mr Waldo with this plaque but it says in honor of Chuck wallow for five Decades of service to the Blue Ridge School District if you contemplate that that is an amazing body of work five decades I also

want to point out that to my left here Margaret Gaby only she's only 40 but she's been serving for over 50 years too as teacher and another capacity I think Diana Butler approaches 50 years as well that's pretty amazing to have three people and have 150 years of combined experience so the short-termers are Dave and Jennifer with 12 years we have longevity and I think that's really one of the things that makes our district special our average teachers education index the years they've been teaching is 17.1 years that's way higher than the state average of 3.4 and so this is a special place to to live work and to learn and we just want to make sure that we did this appropriate so check we have a presentation for your plaque of the Waldo suite

and we wanted to give that to you now [Applause] oh thanks speech thank you very much and just as a point of fact Margaret and I taught together the first couple of years that we were here and then she got out of teaching and I stayed that's right she subbed after that but it's a long time ago thank you very much thank you sir [Applause] we have now the September students of the month Awards we'll start with the uh we'll go in reverse order and start with the older students first Mr Webb would you please present for the high school if I could have Manny come forward Manny Tello he is recognized as our high school student of the month Manny is one of our top students in the high school he's senior he's taken

a full load of college classes honors classes he's working hard he's getting straight A so far he's also one of our student athletes Our Stars out on the soccer field and he's also a great track athlete any basketball this year there you go so we could have another basketball star on the team too so we're super proud that Manny is stepping up and helping out the school and all the ways that he does and making a difference at the high school so congratulations [Applause] congratulations Manny if I could please have Abigail Larson come up Abigail is a seventh grader at our Junior High she was nominated by teachers for this month's student of the month and so I just want to read a couple of the nice things that the teachers said about Abigail Abby

is an exemplary student at Blue Ridge Junior High she embodies positivity creativity and Leadership qualities she's a leader both inside and outside of the classroom she offers solutions to problems and Imagination and Innovation to projects and assignments her infectious smile prompts students around her to feel included and welcome and we love having her at Blue Ridge we also have sounds like you've got some football skills so I need to read a little bit about that as well she's a wonderful young lady who is thoughtful kind and considerate to her classmates her peers enjoy her company and she's engages in her team's creativity to make and execute plays for flag football her current job on the team is fitness trainer and she is always motivating everybody to do their best so we love having Abby at

our school thank you congratulations [Applause] good job Abby so I'm going to make up for the beginning of the year is a busy time to elementary school and I dropped the ball on getting our September student of the month this amazing student here to be recognized last month so I'm going to go ahead and and read a little bit about what uh her one of her teachers said about her Miss Harley Gessner please come up here so hardly here um this is from Justin riesab he said I can honestly say that Harley is one of those students that will always stand out as one of the most dedicated hard-working and kind students that he has ever taught Harley is one of those that if there is a little extra time in class she would work

on math whenever she got something incorrect which wasn't very often she would often figure out what she did wrong and fix it before I could tell her because of this hard work and dedication Harley achieved a perfect score on her state math test which isn't an easy test and it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to get that I know that I can speak for anybody who knows Harley when I say that she is absolutely deserving of this award and she is one of the best students that we have thank you [Applause] good job Harley next we'll go to the recognition of you have another one there I'm sorry about that Mr Grace you had two this month that's right one last one for last month and one for this month so Tony

Marquez is our student of the month for the elementary school so Tanya is one of our third grade students she is in Miss wilhite's class Miss wilheit says that Tanya is everything that a great student should be she is trustworthy and encouraged others to make Positive Choices and she is an absolute Force for honesty and success in the classroom so another very well deserving student that we will honor on campus as well so Tony Marquez congratulations Italian [Applause] we'll now move to the recognition of the September teacher of the month and Mr Webb you have that honor and when you're done I'll say a word or two if I could have Miss archibek come up front please we are recognizing Mrs archibek for being the September teacher of the month with the district she is

an amazing teacher in the classroom she leads by example she also is our seventh seventh through 12 curriculum coordinator she works with Mrs Grace at the elementary school and the two of them have really done an amazing job of streamlining our curriculum and getting us to a better Point she does amazing job with PD with our staff not only is it the training on PD days but she's in the classroom she is helping the teachers understand how to do lesson plans but better the teachers are asking for her input and like what can I do in this situation so she's always willing to help out so it's one of the many reasons that we're wanting to do to recognize her for the great work and she puts in so many hours beyond what the regular

classroom day is nights weekends I know the work that she does and we want to reckon it's it's a small token of our appreciation but we do really appreciate all that you do for us at the at the high school and on the other grade levels as well so thank you very much and it's also her birthday today and she's an amazing choir director too we didn't know about [Applause] if you could stay right there for just a moment Mr Webb and and uh Mrs archibet this is our head track coach a curriculum coordinator an AP teacher a general classroom teacher a volunteer for everything that goes on Jake could you stand up real quick too Jake is one of the luckiest men in the world just like the rest of us guys now I

had the opportunity to get to know both of these fine people nine years ago and only took me four years to get him talk to him into coming actually closer to seven years talk him into joining Blue Ridge so thank you and Ricky land just I wanted to recognize we're so grateful to have a coach of your caliber to direct our girls and to be a fine example for all of our kids so thank you for all for coming and for doing everything that I I knew you to do and so thank you very much Ricky are you were you K through 12 here did you go to start kindergarten Here yeah okay through 12 right there they don't get better it wouldn't have it wouldn't have surprised me if she could direct music either

you can do everything else good for you we also have now a recognition of the September uh the BR Star Award and I'm going to turn that over to Mr Grace and I'll say a few things when you're done Mr Grace Miss Wally and if you would come up here so our employee BR star is one of the most flexible people on campus she started last year being a second grade teacher she moved into an intervention role for probably one day before she became a computer science teacher which lasted yep right about one week maybe a little bit less and so the second week of school she jumped in and took an entire class full of kindergartners which is no small feat in its own it's probably one of the most challenging grades especially to

start the year but she has taken everything in stride and has done an amazing job and she will continue to do an amazing job at everything she does we're very blessed to have her [Applause] I believe shanny's another Blue Ridge graduate awesome I'll also add that if there is a more positive flexible person throughout the entire District I want to meet him because I don't know anybody who can transfer three times in as many weeks and her do it the smile on her face I had the privilege of of uh being in her class for about a half an hour last month and she is a natural teacher and you hear that thrown around a lot but it's true she's a natural teacher the kids love her she has good instincts great organization and she's

just a great asset we love you we appreciate you Ricky Lynn as well we're very appreciative of all the efforts that you make and I also want to add thank you for being as I said thank you for being a great example for our youth both of you are very fine examples and we appreciate you all thank you thank you thank you Dr Wright the next item on the agenda we're going to turn over to miss dugdale for our presentation on the annual capital projects that we have going on right now everything good evening governing board president governing board members so yes we're going to have our annual capital projects presentation before I get started I just want to recognize Roger Truman who is in charge of all of this I'm going to run through

the presentation but he's here to support me and if you have any questions well let's just make Roger do the no he might walk out so our first big project was an adjacent ways project which you've all seen out front um we realized that we had a problem with our entrance after our winter last year with those huge potholes coming in and that we needed to do something about that so we've used um our current adjacent ways money to rectify that problem and to get some new slurry seal and um some new slurry seal and um painting on the parking lot I think it looks great fabulous Roger worked really hard with Sunland to get that accomplished and they did a great job and they really worked around us and worked with our timelines to

make it happen so and then uh here's our speed bump Roger calls this my speed bump because it drove me crazy that there was only half a speed bump so we got a new speed bump put in uh and then here's just another picture in front of the high school and again we use our adjacent ways money um to do that project and adjacent ways pays for fire Lanes um any kind of place where traffic's going um so that uh we can have a place where people are not losing their bumpers and whatnot going in our big potholes as they're coming in I think it turned out great and they did a great job they painted all of our um fire Lanes I think that was nice it needed to be done professionally so they

did a great job with that as well all right future adjacent ways projects so we do have more projects that we need to use um we need to do first of all we need to fix the elementary school parking lot and drop off you can see here that there's some issues there so that's going to be on our list of things that we would like to suggest to the board that we work on in the upcoming years this is our current Bus drop off you can see it's dirt so we'd like to get that slurry sealed so that that are paved so that that's not just a dirt lot um and then here um is in the High School Bus Loop you can see that big divot there we need to get that fixed as

well uh and uh Junior High um Spud sped Bus drop off area we also need to get asphalted okay brg projects are excuse me let her know to you all as oh my goodness as our sfb projects oh passionate about sfb projects okay so since Roger's been here he has done 2.5 million dollars in sfb projects I just want to give Roger props for that um you can see here the breakout of all of the projects that we've been working on just some clarification Services is not just our parking lots that's exterior of our buildings that's walls any kind of actual surface that's what goes into that so majority of that service project is the weatherization project at the elementary school so you can see here's Elementary School I think it looks fabulous and props

to those people that picked the colors out I heard a rumor it might have been Ryan's wife maybe I don't know they I think it looks great as you can see there though um in the front we need to do some work on the concrete and the fire lane but it looks beautiful and Roger that's not quite complete yet right so we're still working on that it's a big project um so some also some other projects that we've done high school gym replacement [Music] um we're in the process of getting the sfb to approve our Bell system and paging systems Roger's working really hard on that we're going to eventually have to replace the roof at the elementary school the sfb does not like to replace things they like to fix things so this is

a struggle so we'll keep fixing it and fixing it and fixing it until they're willing to replace it Roger works very closely with our sfb liaison Dave Cannon to get these projects submitted and completed the auditorium stage floor is complete it looks beautiful and the auditorium lighting is funded and the lighting is ordered and going to be installed this fall so that'll be fabulous for the sound of music play in the spring future um brg projects or ffb projects we do need to do some bathroom remodeling um Roger's working on that exterior doors and locks and closures again we're working on that and we probably need to do a pretty much correct me if I'm wrong Roger almost at 100 HVAC replacement for the whole entire District um so he's working on that as well

and we have our beautiful uh Elementary School flooring that we also are going to need to address as you can see there it's cracked and buckled if you go to the elementary school you can really see it when you look down the hallway how much it's buckling as you can see here with this ruler um how much it's buckling and then it creates trip hazards and things like that and then this is the elementary school roof you can see the top of it as you can see it does need some work again I can't reiterate enough the sfb likes to fix things they don't necessarily like to replace things until they absolutely have to so we're working through that process with them all right are there any questions those are our capital projects for the

past year I have none Diana would you have a question no thank you uh I guess not okay I apologize for my little cough there in the middle no problem all right we'll just move on with the agenda the next item is the consent agenda it consists of minutes vouchers and reports um personnel employers resignations and hirings is there anything that a member of the board member a board member would like to vote on independently instead of just as a voucher I mean as a the whole consent agenda all right it's a 3.2 yeah quite a few new employees and I will butcher these names maybe you know I'm looking at the first one right now and saying Kiefer gagan gagan okay Stephanie Slater Elementary School teacher Sylvia Vargas an aide at the elementary Kendra

Palmer office assistant at the elementary school Laney Lupe teacher of the high school Margaret you wanted to talk about Laney didn't you just to explain who she is uh Laney loopy is a graduate from alter say in White River four years ago she spent four years playing basketball in college both here in state and in Missouri she came back and I just happened to text her because she received a scholarship from the group that I'm on the I'm on the committee for that she received a scholarship her senior year so I just text her to see what she was doing and congratulate her on her four years and she says well actually I'm in the area and thinking about my masters but maybe get a job for the rest of this year and I and

she's interested in sports medicine and her degree reflects that so she I said well you should come over here and look at our Sports Medicine class and take a look at our facilities and so I she stopped by and Dr Wright started talking with her and pretty soon he was handing her a preliminary contract and she was offered a job and taken to the weight room to look at the weight room taken to the sports medicine physical therapy area and she called back in a few days and accepted and she's here so she's going to be with the physical education department and coaching basketball and part of the physical therapy too so that she's she's she was a wonderful girl in high school and I don't expect anything less in her performance here as a

teacher it's nice to know the people that would get hired next would be Karina Knight office assistant in the district office Kristen sterba office assistant Dirk district office Rihanna Smith Finance specialist in the district office Sophia Federico office assistant district office Ali Brandon substitute teacher Jennifer Olsen substitute teacher Derek cavey substitute teacher Cindy Nelson substitute teacher Leanne Lorenson substitute teacher and Samantha Rose substitute teacher all right so with the consent agenda items we have a motion to accept the consent agenda as presented but motion for Margaret a second from check all in favor thank you Diana we got that that be unanimous okay next item of business is item 3.1 recommendation to approve out-of-state travel request Dr Wright do you want to fill us in on that or yes Mr Webb Mr Blake is here

to talk about it she's the sponsor of the program to the trip to Rhode Island I'll turn the time over to her okay okay all right thank you governing board and Dr Wright I'm glad to be here I jack Woods was going to be here he's our president but he is in Cross Country so he can't be here he did prepare a statement that I'm going to read to you he says Dearborn I apologize for my absence in personally addressing you tonight and I hope my statement will provide the necessary information first of all thank you for the consideration of this matter on your agenda our out-of-state activity request involves travel to and from Providence Rhode Island for the future Business Leaders of America National fall leadership conference with a tentative itinerary attached to our

request FBLA nflc provides an incredible opportunity for FBLA members real business owners and leaders teach courses at this conference to train students in ethics life skills business operations leadership Communications and more this opportunity also provides a way for attendees to meet and network with students from all across the country chaperones will incr include myself Mrs Blake FBLA advisor and Miss Rebecca Woods another high school teacher it is anticipated that our trip will include 12 to 16 FBLA club members as far as funds are concerned we are currently averaging a hundred dollars per day in cells in the student store we are also doing several concession fundraisers for football and volleyball we ref we for reference our last concession fundraiser brought in twenty six hundred dollars profit for this trip FBLA members will also seek tax

credit donations as such I feel that that we will be able to raise funds for this trip and meet all deadlines set by FBLA thank you for your consideration on this matter and for your service to our school signed Jackson Woods FBLA Club president do you have any questions looks like he covered all the bases there that's the kind of guy you want working in your business he is amazing all right so we have a recommendation to approve that out of state travel request a motion by Chuck a second by Jennifer all in favor we got that we got that Diana thank you that also is unanimous all right the next item on the agenda is the recommendation to approve the list of new employees that we just read um any questions or comments about

that we've discussed that already I did either that's okay so can we have a recommendation to a recommendation to approve item 3.2 from Jennifer I have a second by myself all in favor that too would be unanimous thank you Diana item 3.3 uh turned time over to you Dr Wright for I review of what we need to know thank you and if it pleases the board what I'd like to do there's been so much going on is give each of the elementary principles about two to three Ministry review what's happened this last 30 days starting with Mr Grace and we'll go to the principal hofmeyer and then Mr Webb been a busy start our class sizes are doing really well we were able to add a Kindergarten class and first grade class to lower those

numbers back down so that we have a really good foundational Baseline uh we had our first Community event this morning we had Grandparents Day at the elementary school I think it brought in something around I think 650 people it's a lot of bagels but we also had the book fair it was super uh productive for the book fair so the book fair is open all week this week here in about an hour we have our first play we have our fourth grade play on uh character counts and and uh being a good person that kind of thing and then we'll move into I think we have our patriotic play next month for our first graders if you want to do a community-wide sing-along with first graders for the Star-Spangled Banner and learn about some facts

of the United States they'll be there for that uh other than that we are we're rolling right along we're fixing to introduce a new piece to our morning and afternoon drop off so hopefully that doesn't go badly but we wanted to we had some people talk to us about wanting to skip the line the big long line that goes all the way around the parking lot because they Park in the south parking lot to drop their kids off and so we're adjusting some of the parking spaces to give a turn lane for that so we'll be messaging that out and we start our after school tutoring last year hour after school tutoring program started in January we knew we wanted to get it started earlier this year and we started on Tuesday next week so

we'll do a cohort in the fall and then we'll switch it and we'll do a cohort in the spring as well so about 15 to 18 kids per grade level so about 15 percent of the grade level will be invited to to participate in that Weekly um that's that's kind of where we're at teaching teaching kids so does you all have any questions all right I'm impressed thank you that's a lot of grandpas and grandmas oh yeah they drive from all over that's awesome I think that's great all right at the junior high start we've got our softball 7th and 8th grade softball teams playing our seventh and 8th grade football teams cross country we have a cheer team this year which is super exciting and they've been out at our football games I highly

recommend you go and see them they work really hard and it's just great to watch those kids play football too softball as well so those been great games we started our response to intervention program with our students that we've identified as struggling in reading and math and so they have started we're working with those students individually or in small groups twice a week during the school day and so that's going very well so far we're actually meeting with all of our teachers this Friday to just to kind of check in on the progress and see what kind of adjustments we need to make tonight we actually have in about 25 minutes our steam engagement night and our Fab Lab open house is going to be open from 6 to 7 30 so we've encouraged people

from the community to come in and see all the great things happening in the Fab Lab we also have encouraged community members to come in and share some ideas that they have on some projects that students might be able to help them solve using stem education looking forward into into the next couple weeks we are going to be participating in the parade on the 23rd we're excited about that we've got a lot of students that want to participate with that we've got a float going we were best school last year so we're working on it again for this year but we're hoping to have a lot of kids in our teams participating in that um and then our um gosh I just lost I had five things written out on our agenda that went out

in our newsletter last last week and now they're escaping my mind but a lot of great things coming up in the next few weeks at the junior high as well but it's been a great start any questions thank you all right so high school two we've got a lot of different things going on our fall Sports we've got football and cross country volleyball teams are out and doing well and soccer girls actually are home tonight if you get a chance to swing out to Mountain Meadows Varsity starts at six o'clock playing under the lights and they're doing the teams are doing really hard hard work over the Summers it's paying off right now so if you get a chance go out and watch some of those games chess has been to a couple of tournaments

already and we've got quite a few new kids in chess so that's looking promising as well teachers are working really hard they're meeting the requirement that the state has put on us to have lesson plans submitted and we're getting those lesson plans in we're collecting them and they're ready to be posted on the website it's a lot of work that has to be done ahead of time the teachers are stepping up to the plate and getting those in and making sure that we're meeting that requirement and it's paying off in the classroom to teachers are feeling more comfortable and confident in their presentations they're doing some great things in the classes we're really proud of our teachers and what they're teaching the kids their kids are really engaged we see a lot of Engagement and

even in our two classes that we have with online teachers where teachers are teaching remotely even those students with the support that we have in place for those kids there there's a lot of Engagement going on there too so we're really excited for our kids and what they're able to do in the classrooms we just recently had homecoming last week and the student council decided to honor Michael Smith who passed away last year and have a Mario homecoming theme and it was it was amazing the way that they decorated the Halls um it's they've really stepped up and it it was a great tribute to Michael Smith and what he represented and it also continues carries on into the kindness campaign that we're doing and so we see a lot of kids stepping up and

representing that ask that we did at the beginning of the year to step out and help somebody they're doing they're really pulling through and at the lead of the student council some of our other athletes the teams that are we appreciate Mr Grace letting our teams go down to the elementary and and meet the little kids down there they both sides the kids and the elementary kids I think and teachers enjoy that so we hope to continue that expand it to maybe student council National Honor Society going down there to all the different organizations given that opportunity so kids can see hey this is what maybe when I get up to that high school I can do some of those things so it's been a great start to the year and we hope to still

continue strong thank you we have obviously hard-working administrators principals Vice principals and the folks that support so many of our kids in every Department that we have we have top-notch people so we're grateful for their efforts that concludes my report unless there are any questions from the board thank you nice job folks thank you next item on the agenda is call to the public and we would invite anybody that would like to address the board to do it at this time we'd like to limit your time to three minutes and uh we'll open that up right now for those that would like to do that I'm not seeing anybody coming going once never mind okay the next regularly scheduled board meeting is October 17th but there is kind of a conflict with October 17th and

one of the reports that has to be given out Kimberly you want to address that yes so our annual financial report by law has to be approved by um October 15th by the board so I just got an email right now that the auditor General's office just released the um forms which is great news so um I would appreciate it if we could have the board meeting a little bit earlier before October 17th so that we could get the AFR approved yeah fall break is when the second week of August so if we would have our board meeting the first week of October then we would not have to conflict with fall break and we would be able to have that report approved so that it could be submitted before the 15th right so what

day would be the first Tuesday of October the questions are the Third would that work because fall break would be the next week okay and I think we originally moved board meetings in the 17th so it wouldn't conflict with fall break and not knowing this report anyway so any any questions or concerns or comments about that I'll be at a conference but I can attend remote that would be good Diana do you have any questions about the change of date no that's fine with me all right I think Dr Wright you had a conflict though right we'll have Kimberly run that board meeting or we can do it together all right so you'll be at a legal conference dark tonight okay so let's change if that's okay with everybody here we'll change that October meeting

to to five o'clock on October the 3rd and we will have to have that hearing earlier 15-minute hearing so we'll meet at 4 45 to have the second hearing on the instructional whatever it was I can't remember the time model so any questions or concerns about that Jennifer you'll be able to be remote I'll be here Margaret check all right so we'll just do that we'll make that announce I'm an official then we're going to meet on the third at 4 45 for that hearing and we'll meet at five o'clock for our regularly scheduled board meeting at that time I have a quick question sure we've got these really cool bus someone was someone going to discuss that today yes so the the campaign what it does we've ordered a bunch of these we I

say we Kimberly the principals Linda Hayes it when a a student or adult does something nice for someone they could post what was done and then they'll learn one of these little buzz bracelets that's what it is and that the shirt says on the back of that everyone please help someone every day and that's our our new mantra I want to stay with it we have signage District White that's awesome I have a new wardrobe all right so if there's nothing further can we have a motion to adjourn a motion for Margaret second from Chuck all in favor of German that's it we're adjourned at this time
