003can say but Mrs Robbins is actually here and she is her PE teacher and wanted to say a few great things about Mommy well first of all congratulations and this young lady deserves it uh she when she comes into my class her smile just lights up everywhere and it's contagious and she's the kind of young person here who is not afraid to jump in and try new things she is a pleasure to have a class and when she is asked to do just about anything almost she does it so there's times where I tease her a little bit but I love having Melanie in class she is such a pleasure and the things that we're learning in PE um sometimes physical education gets a bad rap but what we're learning is cooperation we're learning teamwork

004we're learning problem solving we're learning strategies and let me tell you this melody is at the top here she is in there she actually helped me do some of the writing on the board today which was the teams we were doing uh setting up teams against each other today but any of Melanie congratulations and thank you for being an amazing young woman and thank you for being a good example to all of your classmates and your peers and thank you for lighting up our days every single day I don't think I've seen a frown on her face since the a first day of school I haven't so thank you for being an amazing amazing young lady and thank you to the parents thank you recognition to you for raising such an amazing young lady she

006bit of what we just heard about we all knew that is McKenna she's also part of our crew that does the morning announcements and joke of the day we love the announcements in the morning and my camera is a huge part of making that happen so we want to recognize McKenna for her part of making Blue Ridge special thank you congratulations foreign that brings us next to our PR star awards and we have two this month and I will I'm glad to present these I would like to help of first Nate will you present and I'll uh I'll bring the plaque and we would like to recognize Mr David Kelly from the I.T [Applause] um Dave has been with us for several years now he started with the temp for us and we posted it

007from the temp agency he's been fantastic for us he's always available knows his stuff inside and out and then he is just the ultimate customer service Guru his patience his training those types of things he's even killed he never seems to get frustrated with anything if because of that he makes us a better team and a better desert and so very deserving of this recognition thank you come on up in in one week I'm happy to say in one week's time I had three positive comments from three different parents I said where's Bruce I need to we need to recognize him if normally if I get a somebody mentions somebody after hours a teacher or anybody a staff member it's normally not positive but three times one week and the comments range from uh kind

008I consider it knows my name takes time to get to know me thank you I'll turn it over to you Bruce comes to us several years back and I knew right away he was going to play nice with her Transportation team he's a very diligent and punctual in his job and he loves the kids and takes time to get to know them as individuals and he also takes time to get to know the parents as well and he always isn't he always encourages all of his kids and all of his parents we appreciate that in him he's a model employee and also does so many other things behind the scenes he loves to serve others all in all a fantastic person and we appreciate all you do [Applause] [Music] our next recognition is for Teacher

009of the month last month Andrew ganil won this award in this month and goes to Mandy public can you please come up [Applause] thank you I want to recognize Mandy for a few things I've had the pleasure of working with Mandy for the last five years and I just I I want to recognize first that her she continuously is seeking more and more education and just recently received her certificate in counseling as your master's degree but she just is she's always continuing to further her education but she's also very conscientious of all the student needs on campus and things that our school needs to help get more involvement and so Mandy not only has been our yearbook creator for the last four years at least I think but also is has helped us with our

010spelling bee she runs that piece is has also started she's going to be starting science fair with our kids and there was one other I there are so many things that she's oh yes and thank you and she's also actually helping us start a new chapter of the junior National Honor Society so that's what we're looking into right now and so she just see his needs at the campus and she takes steps to get those things done so I'm I'm just very happy to have Mandy with us she is a big she's an important part of the ridge [Applause] [Music] thank you we feel it's important to recognize everybody that contributes and helps Blue Ridge become and stay what we are we appreciate the many hours as an extra effort that are given to make

011this school what it is excellent thank you thank you again so much okay the next item on the agenda is our content consent agenda board after looking over the consent agenda are there any items that you would like to take out and vote on individually consent agenda consists of minutes from the last meeting vouchers and reports personnel that kind of stuff so nothing there Margaret if not we have a motion to accept a consent agenda as posted I have a motion I have a second from Diane all in favor okay that would be all okay the next item on the agenda is our business section item 3.1 a recognition and acceptance of donations many benefit benefiting Blue Ridge School District Dr Wright you want to go over those and explain what they are and how

012they were well used and needed and people I think what I see when I read this is people saw a need and they stepped up in the community and just took care of it yes so we're very fortunate to have involved community members to help us the floor arrangement was given for the Mr yellow jacket it was donated by the bloom house and floral designs a local flower shop it's about I guess a year and a half years old is a nice place office chairs donated by Denise Hall for the bus bar and break room much needed thank you Denise a thousand dollar auto ship auto shop raffle donation by Carquest and the bomb it bomb Auto Home Auto home and auto center I'm not really for me it must be another local business so

013thank you to you and then the piano for the fine arts program was donated to our schools and they require our [Music] uh school supplies I'm sorry school supplies donated from rosemary as well holdenberg Holbert yes great family so um any comments regarding those donations thank you we do send letters out right thank you we appreciate that I think it would be great someday to just list in the newspaper what people give to us on an editorial basis sometimes to recognize those folks in the community they help us so much so we need a motion to accept these donations I have a motion by Margaret a second by Dan all in favor all right thank you item 3.2 a recommendation to approve the disposal of dated textbooks I read that and I thought oh no

014we're burning books right you want to explain what we're doing this is part of the procedures required if they're dated materials that are no longer relevant that you need to dispose of that has to go through a process and then has to be also approved by the board and so we're seeking permission to dispose of a group of dated textbooks we can give those away can't we well these are ones that people don't even want they're not dated it's not a history book they are dated okay so any comments if not Diana did you have something to say I mean can we have a motion into it they need to be cleaned out we have a motion then to uh except item 3.2 and motion a second Meyer all in favor then that was also

015passed okay item 3.3 recommendation to approve uh extracurricular coach sponsors we have a lengthy list and we don't need to go through those names individually but Dr Wright do you want to explain why we why we do this all of these required board approval in order to participate in these activities and so we were seeking board's approval and these are handouts these are the Personnel this is not stipends correct right okay yeah these were just the coaches not the stipends we have two lists any questions about those lists or any in okay uh I think we have a motion to accept item uh 3.3 have a motion from in a second from Diane all in favor that would be unanimous also okay item uh 3.4 recommendation to approve the 2022 and 2023 new teacher recruitment

016stipends there again would you just explain what that is yeah so these are funds that are provided through a grant to help recruit teachers and so if a teacher was not with us last year and they're with us this year they qualify for that and so we have provided that list of new teachers that are going to get those that are qualified for those stipends have they already received those or are they coming they're coming okay any questions or comments about that we have a recommendation then to accept item 3.4 emotion I mean the motion in a second all in favor sorry they're very patient with me last night we had a meeting at the end uh we called a meeting to order instead of uh adjourned it after an hour so thank you for

017your patience with me board I appreciate that in every way all right um item 3.5 recommendation to approve out-of-state travel for the FBLA leadership and team development if they're here they'd like to present that to us the sponsor is Alicia is here miss Alicia yeah I think this young man might have something to do with it too [Music] Jeremy here today um we are well I'm excited about taking over at Bailey this school year as the CTE business teacher um and just to provide the opportunity for our students to travel and to get new experience and to partake in some leadership development with not only students from our school but students from all around the country so this is a national event that is being held as I believe you're provided with the handouts um

018it doesn't look like a pasty trip and opportunity for our kids but I'm confident in their ability to fundraise and to um yeah just be able to make this happen for themselves and so as you can see on the request There's an opportunity to also go to Disney which will be fun but for them after learning for two days in a row so um yeah just looking forward to hopefully being able to provide this opportunity for them and funding-wise I'll just say we've actively laid out a plan for all the members of fpla and they are currently actively seeking out fundraising through tax credit and business sponsors sponsorship from the community great just just for the record when when was this planned and when is it going to happen scheduled for November 17th through the

01920th okay we've been planning for the last two to three weeks yeah I think I got an email from this young man saying how do I do this and I said talk to your principal and he did he got it all taken care of so thanks for dealing with me are there any questions anybody has great thank you very much thank you so the next item then for us to vote on would be item 3.5 approval for this out of state travel I have a motion a second from Diane all in favor all right [Music] okay item 3.6 Dr Adam turn this over to you so you can introduce these new employees we do not we do not have any of the new employees here tonight two of these are returning Sarah bromke was with

020us for five years she had a very brief retirement Miss teaching and her husband has gone on to work in the business world and she volunteered to take her role so we gladly accepted she's a wonderful English teacher so we we lost him and gained her we did yep I said Ed I love you but we upgraded we got Sarah yeah I'm glad you said that I didn't want to get caught saying that at real Ed knows he's an amazing teacher too and Sarah is phenomenal the next one Mr Pico still worked with us he returned retiree they have to go out of the system for a year he's been out with ESI for a year he's coming back Brittany Graves is at our front desk he's doing a wonderful job and Chris Breedlove is

021helping out Roger's team and is has a wealth of knowledge and a lot of different area this and that filled that position that we'd had before Amberly Crowther is joining our it team October 3rd and so these are the folks that we've added since our last meeting I'm going to seek board approval any questions or comments about these individuals I do believe the HVAC ire is supposed to be very helpful with the State Board and proving that we do maintenance on air conditioning so that they'll help us get put more funding is that right correct that's great good just real quick do we have any other openings currently for teaching English position full-time still efforting to find that we're full at the elementary and Junior High is but that's the one position every December for

022the last three years we've found either an English or a math teacher so keep her fingers and toes crossed maybe we'll find one for the second semester if not that'll be covered through ASU digital prep thank you if there's no further comments or questions we have a motion for item 3.6 a motion for Margaret a second from Jennifer all in favor thank you that also passed unanimously um item 3.7 Dr Wright we're going to turn some time over to you to give us an update on what's happening in the district yes sir the Fall Festival is this weekend our district will be represented in a number of different ways we have different groups and teams participating in that event begins in the morning of if it doesn't get rained out there's supposed to be a

023lot of rain so it might be a wet Fall Festival but we are planning on participating as a district girls are playing at home right now in soccer I don't know when that game is over Jennifer just over about right now and then this week is homecoming week at the at the high school so that's a busy week for Miss Megan and Mr Webb there they're very busy with all of the goings-on that are happening we have an event going about every night I believe the homecoming dance is Saturday from 8 to 11 here at the high school and we play gonado at home the football team does this Friday all are welcome and that's the report for this week if you don't have any questions no I have a question will homecoming royalty be

024able to participate in the parade yeah that's part of the flow so that's the winners for the royalty during the game halftime of the football game and then they're invited to participate in the parade that's that's cool that's that doesn't happen very often and I think it's great and we also it a class of 82 they're having their 40-year read in this weekend and so we're doing a big push and they actually invited other people from you know upper and lower grades and so it's a pretty big deal and they're we're invited into the homecoming game as well great thank you I appreciate that okay next item on the agenda is call to the public and if anybody would like to what's that I'm sorry Diane and I are feeling old well you know I

025I those were the same thoughts I had when they said the class of 82. I think I'm still driving a car or that's that old you know you know so anyway time keeps moving on call of the public we would invite anybody to come and address the board if they'd like to we'd like to limit your remarks to about three minutes if you would take a slip I think they're in the back or you can get one for Mary Ford uh stating who you are so we can put this in the public record and we would invite your input we can't actually act on that information we can ask staff to look into it or put it on the put it on agenda at a future date I think everybody talked out last night so

026last meetings last week the whole anyway so if there's nothing further uh Dr I had nothing to just announcements of the board dates oh yeah um sorry yeah the board dates uh we've had to change the date for October and November and December due to financial reasons and reports that need to be turned in and the dates those reports have to be turned in so the October meeting will be Tuesday October 11th at this location at five o'clock the November meeting will be November 15th at this location at five o'clock the December meeting will be December 13th at this location at five o'clock so hopefully we can keep that out on the board I mean the electronic board digital board so that people know so they can attend anyway if there's nothing further and we

027have a motion to adjourn I have a motion to adjourn from Jennifer in a second from Margaret all in favor of adjournment
