Hello Porters. This is your student board of education members James Wyatt, Ryan Gleason, >> Abigail Carroll, and Evelyn Schuleric >> with the recap of the May 18th board meeting. The board began the meeting by recognizing outstanding student achievement, which included students who received medals in the national German exam, students who participated in the IHSPA powerlifting state championships, and students who were awarded for their Skills USA accomplishments. In addition, the board also recognized off the record and senior Cadence Morinsky. This year's retirees were honored Monday night for their service and commitment to Lockport High School. We'd like to thank them for the difference they have made in students lives. We also congratulate teacher Cory Duzan for being an outstanding manufacturing educator of the year finalist. >> Next, Mr. Dusterhoff and his team presented to the board
their student and educatorled AI guide book for the upcoming school year. This guide book prioritizes responsible, safe, and ethical uses of AI through the lead acronym for students, ensuring AI does not replace student thinking. These guidelines are subject to change as technical advancements are made. >> The board ended the meeting by approving seven new English novels for the 2026 2027 school year. Additionally, they approved $15.9 million in bonds to complete life safety items at Central Campus, such as roofing and window replacements. The 2025 2026 school year has been amazing, but it must come to an end. As we close the school year, the four of us will be saying goodbye to Lockport. In our absence, a new board of four students will be elected to serve as as student board members at Lockport. To those
students, I thank you for your commitment and I wish you luck on your future endeavors. Even though I'm leaving, I will forever carry the things I learned while sitting on this board and will continue to use the knowledge it has taught me. Empowering others is not always easy, but our board of education has dedicated themselves to empowering Lockport by hearing student voices through the student board members. This opportunity that they have provided is unique, and for that, I thank them. I've made so many friends during this position. There will be a day I look back and miss my board meeting briefs with Mr. Slagger. There will be a day where I look back about the impact I made as a porter. There will also be a day where I look back about what I've learned
in this position. And for those reasons, among others, I thank the board of education graciously for electing me to serve this year. Next year, I plan on going to Purdue and studying cyber security. Boil her up. >> I would like to thank the LTHS board of education for this amazing opportunity. Your willingness to listen to student voices and opinions has set you apart and given me the experience of a lifetime. Specifically, I want to thank the members of the finance and facilities committee, Mrs. Stephanie Croy and Mr. Brian Armer for guiding me through all the technical details of what it takes for a school to run successfully. This year has taught me so many new things and I want to share some of my favorite memories like our first outing as a student board to
a radio station where we got to discuss new policies in the district. The experience that stands out to me the most is our Veterans Day dinner and celebration. It was so moving to see veterans of our community and their families be able to sit down and talk to one another. As the board continues their search for our replacements, I emphasize that they look for people involved in a little bit of everything here at Lockport. Next year, I'll be attending the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for nursing. Go Titans. First and foremost, I wanted to say thank you to the board of education. Thank you for giving me the chance to be a voice for the students of Lockport and to make their experience with the curriculum even better. This experience is one that I will never
forget. It has taught me so much about how curriculum decisions are made. From how new classes are added to the discussions behind going back to textbooks and the process of forming new curriculums. I wanted to thank all of the curriculum committee members especially Dr. Gustafaro for working with me this year. It has been an honor. Looking back on my time on the board, some of my favorite moments from it were the Wells and Triple I conferences. They gave me the opportunity to learn more about the professional world and meet so many inspiring people. As we look toward picking our new student board members, I hope that they will be well articulated and good at communication because as student board members, we must be able to communicate the needs of the students as best as possible.
Next year, I will be attending Purdue University for aerospace engineering. Boiler up. >> As my time on the board comes to an end, I would like to thank the board of education for giving me this opportunity to represent my fellow students and support their voice. This experience has taught me a lot about the community I live in and how supportive it is. Some of my most memorable experience have been attending Veterans Night, the Gold Card Dinner, and Strikeout Cancer because they all represent the best elements of District 205. During our ongoing search for the new student board members, I emphasized to the board the importance of selecting a leader rooted in integrity, ethics, and selflessness. Next year, I will be attending Arizona State University on a Naval ROC scholarship to major in civil engineering. Go
Sunundevils. >> And as always, go Porters.
