we'd like to call this meeting order and we'll start with a pledge of allegiance and i myself will offer that i mean lead us in that pledge allegiance all right thank you um this last round of covet has really struck the school district with uh closely and has taken some people that we were pretty close with and i think it'd be appropriate if we just took a few minutes to just pause in silence and i'll read the names of the families that have been affected so closely to our blue ridge family that would be the the ellsworth's the greens the hearsts the jacksons and everingham family so if we just take a a moment of silence then we'll begin our meeting after that thank you we'll begin our board meeting today with a special presentation

from jessie reek and jesse would just like you to take the podium and take a mic and we'll turn time over you for however long you need thank you so much there it goes thank you so much thank you for having me um i am an english teacher here at the high school and i also uh the last couple of years has been have been serving as the avid district director for the district um and among all the chaos of kovid we've had some really great leaders uh step up and say yes we want to bring avid to the district and so we haven't yet had a chance to present it to you all and so we're excited to come here tonight i do have a special additional guest who will come up a little

later and share a little bit about his experience with the program so far because we started looking into this in the spring of 2020 it's been a sort of hobbled start a slow start but we have some really great aspects running at all three of the campuses this year and it's just a little taste of where we hope to go but i want to present a little bit about the program what it looks like here now and the vision that we hope to to see fulfilled okay magic so avid stands for advancement via individual determination it is a long established program it's been around nationally and internationally for over 40 years in your board packets there are some informational handouts that are kind of snapshots of both avid national and what avid looks like in

arizona it's just to give you a taste of what the program the kind of impacts the program has on a large scale and what we why we trust the program and what we hope to see some of what we hope to see it accomplish here at blue ridge so you can see that it's it's very well established in arizona the first exposure that i had to it was back in north carolina many moons ago but then i came i've been out here now 15 years and have been at the school for at the high school for three years and teaching ap classes and just wanting to see kids feel better equipped for the kind of rigor that they're exposed to in ap classes and then of course in college and beyond and so i started

trying to think like how how can we do this how can we support kids and get more kids into our honors programs more kids into our dual enrollment programs and a wider variety of kids from all over our our district all over our student body and it brought me back to this program that i had heard about and so i went down to north high school in the valley to a showcase there i spoke with mr webb about it i said i remember this program i've looked at their website but i'd like to see what it can actually look like and was able to go down not long before covet shut everything down and and see at north high school down there what it looks like and it's really this robust school-wide program that is

energizing a lot more of their students to be successful in college and career and so with that in mind i started reaching out to avid and we were able to to run a planning year and now we're in our first implementation year at the campuses avid's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society and i love this phrase that they've shifted to this opportunity gap where the focus is on providing opportunities for students k-12 exposure to what's out there the possibilities and the opportunity to develop the skills and strategies they need to be successful in a classroom and in their careers so this is the avid college and career readiness framework and at the top you can see kind of the

idea of what students need that they need rigorous academic preparedness and this is true whether it's happening you know whether they're on track to go to a trade school whether they're on track to go to a university or whether they're going to go straight into the workforce they need rigor they need to be challenged they need that opportunity to to succeed and thrive opportunity knowledge they need to know what's out there and then that student agency piece which is something that in the classroom we've just been desperately grabbing for especially these last couple of years that that they need to feel empowered to take ownership of their and to take responsibility for that and to feel capable of thriving in the classroom and so we as educators and the bottom half of that pyramid there

we need to insist on rigor break down barriers align the work and advocate for students and avid provides kind of a structure a programmatic structure and framework for us to be able to do that in those four outside domains instruction systems leadership and culture so this is kind of the big lens we're trying to to institute through this program so what do we do with this we are trying to continually remind both our staff and our students that we need to be future focused we're using it to provide more vertical integration from the elementary school through the junior high into the high school with consistent expectations and support for students we are using it to provide the support and alignment with district and campus goals and a lot of that is happening through our own

ownership of in-house fully supported pds through the avid program so right now what it looks like at the high school at the high school we have both school-wide approach and an elective approach and so with school-wide this is for all of our staff and all of our students our professional development has been avid based and avid focused all of this year so dr megan dorsett and i have been trained in giving avid professional development and in alignment with our high school goals we have been doing professional development roughly every six weeks providing that for our staff and it's allowed us to give training that's really specific to our needs to our aims to our goals and at no additional cost to our school we can do all of that in-house we offer the freshman foundations

class to almost all of our freshmen and this year that curriculum has shifted over to avid curriculum avid provides this elective correct curriculum that's all about um you know study skills organizational skills uh you know how to be an engaged learner what do my post high school diploma options look like what should i be pursuing in that and to be prepared for that and that curriculum we've put that into our foundations course so that all of our freshmen are having some exposure to this and and getting off on the right foot as they start in at the high school we're also this semester really trying to focus our counseling department on getting some organized system for promote systems for promoting college and career awareness so we've had some some pieces joyce cox has done amazing

career fairs for us we have college reps come in sometimes but it's not organized systematically enough to catch every student and make sure that they're on track with what they need and so we're using avid to help structure that we also have the avid elective and so in ninth and tenth grade we have a cohort in each grade of students that was recruited they applied they interviewed and were selected to be in this class and these groups we have around 27 in each class our students that are getting full wrap around support so they're in one of our skinnies those little 45-minute classes every semester for all of their high school career so with this our goal was to attract students that might possibly be first-generation college students students that are right now getting a's

b's and c's in regular classes and are capable of succeeding in more rigorous classes but maybe are a little scared or don't feel like they have the skills to support that to get those students and to provide that full wrap around support it's sort of a chance to pick up kids that often are middle kids fall through the cracks because we're focused on providing the ap experience or we're focused on providing interventions for kids that are really struggling and our big chunk of kids in the middle don't get that special attention and so these are about providing that that wrap around experience that wrap around support and we have fantastic teachers with the ninth graders and the tenth graders and they're into their second semester right now of this avid elective so i asked billy

to come speak a little bit he's one of our freshmen and he was in my honors english class last semester is in avid so billy you want to come share a little bit so um i'm billy wafthouse i'm ninth grade avid student this is my second semester like she said um this class has just i don't know made it easier for me to focus and manage my time in school and i guess with notes especially because notes are hard for me to comprehend most of time because i usually use pictures to think and remember things so it helps with that a lot and helped with social skills actually because we have to speak in front of the class a few times in class we have to um socratic seminars which we talk about questions that

our class has stuff like that and i don't know just made it easier awesome thank you so we have a whole group of freshmen several of whom are off at the basketball games right now or are still working on their willingness to speak in front of people so i really appreciate billy coming to share just a little bit about his experience at the junior high we're also making this school-wide push jessie before you go on to the junior high i have a question can you tell me how this program relates to the boss moss class because it sounds like some of the competencies are parallel or interrelated yeah so boss moss is focused on right like building sort of more business related skills um and avid certainly opens the door to that but they're more

of the soft skills versus the hard skills that boss moss is going to provide they're the soft skills of you know speaking in front of people having that confidence so in terms of the business related field and then lots of awareness so they have guest speakers come in and talk about their careers and the educational background that got them to that point and a lot on study skills so a lot on note-taking organization planning calendaring making sure you know when due dates are and ideally our elective develops right now especially again recovering from covid they've had a couple days of week that are designated as tutorial days and for our freshmen and sophomores those days have been a lot of what's getting lost from your school work right now and how do we catch up

and make sure that you're getting through the assignments and balancing that workload ultimately these tutorial days develop to days in which they're working in small groups and they're asking questions that clarify their own points of confusion and then develop their own agency to be able to find within their resources and within their peers the resources that they need to be successful in the class so it's more of an academic focus and there's certainly a broad push towards college awareness and college readiness but there are also students in that class that will be on the navit track or students that will be you know in other avenues that go straight to career um because they are skills you know we want to teach these transferable skills note-taking and you know learning terminology and all of these

things as i always tell them in my english class whatever job you're going to have you're going to have to learn vocabulary for it right so we need to know how to learn yeah can i share a person like an example because i have my youngest daughter so my youngest daughter just because she's the youngest and parents kind of forget that kids have to be taught to learn so my other kids you know are very successful in school and then she really struggled bees and sometimes sees and it was devastating for her but she just didn't she couldn't advocate for herself and she expected us to just if she's very much of a passive learner so in the avid program she's taught how to self-advocate and then one example is they say what do you

want to do in your life so you have to create a powerpoint presentation so she decided she wanted to do graphic arts and design with animation so she had to do a research project on how much would it cost how can you get there and then they have to supply goals for the year so she comes home from school and she says mom there's this school called massachusetts institute of technology i'm like uh-uh you're not going there one fifty thousand dollars a year but she developed a plan that if she gets her associate's degree at um the local school here and she can graduate with some of her dual enrollment credits so they showed her how to do the dual enrollment credits for class and so she's taking all the robotics and she's doing all

the nasa and so she'll be graduating with her associates probably a semester after she graduates from high school and then she's like i can afford a hundred thousand dollars of education in comparison to two hundred thousand dollars of education because then she also was taught well how can you pay for that so she decided that she's going to do door-to-door sales but that's really funny but um but she thought during the summer if i can make ten thousand dollars for three summers i can pay for thirty thousand dollars of that and if i have a savings account so she now is on track to go to a university that i would tell her absolutely no but she could have an opportunity so that's kind of they show them like life skills and how to figure

out how to make your goals successful and then how to advocate for yourself so now she's in a lot of honors classes and so she'll take the additional time to go in early to talk to teachers so she made straight a's this last semester and one of them was honors geometry and that's really hard and she ended up getting like a 98 or before she was a year behind in her math classes so it really just changed her perspective and her confidence so now she's like i'm going to massachusetts institute of technology i'm like it's called mit daughter and think of other opportunities so she has three schools that she wants to go to and she has a plan so she's selling chicken eggs she's like you know she's doing all these things because she

was taught take taking the time to teach in this program on how to be self-sufficient and how to accomplish your goals so it's pretty amazing i think it's a great program and it was working earlier i had a question about how are kids identified and how do they get into this class if they want to or are their kids just getting left behind right because i i maybe you said and i just missed it but that was one of the questions i had how how are students identified and how can they access the whole program yeah that's a great question um so last year because it was so new we did a big push both to our freshmen and then to the eighth graders and we just kind of put it out there and announced

it we did it at registration events we went down to every single one of the eighth grade english classes and talked to them about what the avid program was and posted flyers and passed out the information about the application and so they then applied and then we followed up with that with an interview before we selected the cohorts we also had teacher recommendations for us that's what i was going to ask are there are is the other route where a teacher can recommend a student that probably wouldn't have taken that step on their own because of lack of confidence yes absolutely and it was nice last year because um we knew the freshmen and so we were able to reach out directly to the freshmen that were going that were rising sophomores and say hey

you need to be in this class and we tried to get that message to the junior high teachers and i think this year they are more familiar with it because avid's in their school as well and so we'll have a better response from them in terms of recommendations and even throughout the year you know the first semester we had some students that got in the class and said i actually don't want to do this and it is an elective it's a choice it's a voluntary thing we think it has the potential to be really awesome for a lot of kids but it's not something we're going to force on them because a big part of it is you're with those kids all four years every day you have to be able to get along and

and so we've had some kids drop and we've had other kids either reach out or we've had teachers say this kid should really be in the program and we've recruited them so we've had some kids join this semester as well so this next year we won't recruit from any of the high school you know unless a teacher says this kid needs to be in there or a kid individually says hey my friend's in there i want in you know that looks cool then we might add a few students but at the eighth grade we are taking teacher recommendations and then any individual student that has interest as well yeah any other questions so our high school staff has been a little bit more familiar with it we've been building to the launch um this year

and our junior high in elementary we just got started this year we had several a large group of teachers uh that were in training and administrators in training this summer and now at the junior high we have kind of two pieces one is again that pd piece so we have some folks there that have been trained to give pd and i am also going to spend some time down there doing pd with them and so we're focusing there our pd focus at the high school first semester was on note taking focus note taking and so that's where we're going to start at the junior high 2 again building that vertical integration it looks different at the junior high but if they're exposed to it there it builds to the high school and again just promoting

that college awareness and you know what are the opportunities that are out there through career days college fairs that sort of thing at the junior high with their schedule they run the enrichment wheel and right now all of their seventh and eighth graders all their students go through one little four-week enrichment wheel of avid and we're fine-tuning the curriculum there because it's so much shorter we really are trying to figure out all right what are the best pieces of this curriculum uh to use and ones that maybe aren't being touched on in other aspects of you know their capstone or their english classes or whatever else so we're fine-tuning that but it does mean that all of those students are getting just a little taste of what that kind of support could be like we

hope eventually to build it into one of their elective classes but right now it's in the enrichment wheel and at seventh and eighth grade level and then those students have the opportunity to join the elective cohort at the high school at the elementary school it's much more kind of school-wide again they've really loved the idea that a big part of it is just making kids aware at that age that college is a thing that some people go to college and so all of the elementary teachers have put up their diplomas and they have during their spirit weeks they'll have like wear a college color day in things like this we have in the sixth grade where the sixth graders thankfully mrs wright was willing to share a little bit of her time and expertise to

implement some of those avid skills and strategies into her elective time sixth graders are not always the most willing to stand up and sing but they do need a little bit more academic support so she's been mixing that in there and went through their training this summer to be to be able to provide some of those strategies and to encourage their students in organization and planning and all of those kind of academic fundamentals we also sent a group of three third grade teachers to their training this summer and they are implementing a lot of the average strategies in that classroom our hope is to kind of uh you know grade up level up every year so next year to send some for or this year now to send some fourth grade teachers and progress up

so that those students that are starting to get those avid fundamentals in third grade will be able to grow into those as they move up and then those teams those that third grade team can share you know that those first three can share it with the rest of the third grade team um and so forth to expand um there's even you know kind of specific trainings and programs and support that avid offers for little kindergartners um but a lot of schools start at the third grade and we decided that would be a good place to kind of start that more intense like all right let's think about how we organize what we write down when we're learning so that's what it's looking like at the elementary school as well any other questions on those i

just wanted to add the power of a teacher taking an interest in a student the impact of that at an early age it can be profound i in our family our father was homeless and and was uh lived in west texas and a fifth grade teacher said hey his name was billy as well and he said you're smart what are you going to do you you know you can do this you're smart and you started helping him and tutoring him and then he had a high school teacher that said you should go to university you're a very bright kid and so it's through college athletics that he had his avenue to go through but there were teachers that planted that seed that put it that had a belief in him because he didn't have any

other adult contact and so the impact that you can have on the students that are living on the margin and the students that are in high sociod income can be profound teachers make a huge difference and by the way you and adam are among our finest thank you so in terms of building from here we are working on finalizing a site visit down to wilson unified school district in the valley in february we're hoping it'll work out it's still of course there haven't been any showcases in arizona for two years but right now wilson is saying they would be willing to let some of our teachers and administrators come down the tentative date is february 16th right now and if any of you are interested in joining to see what these established schools are doing

they have a an elementary or junior high and then a fully avid high school right across the street from each other so i'm i'll pass on that information once we have it finalized in case anybody wants to join us we'll have a group of teachers and administrators going down to sort of catch that vision it's been hard because you know everything's virtual right now so our training this summer was virtual and we haven't been able to visit schools there are some other schools in the area payson and holbrook have also recently implemented avid so they're getting started like we are too but there aren't any ones that are more established very close to here so it'll be a trip down to the valley um we have ongoing professional development happening at all three campuses and

and leaders that have been trained at all of the campuses to provide that professional development so it's been a really nice thing this year to get back to meeting regularly as a staff at the high school and talking about what's happening in our classrooms and and what strategies we can use to increase student achievement there we are constantly trying to make sure that we're aligning it with our site and our district initiatives so every time that you guys make a plan or our administrative team makes a plan then i'm going back with our site teams to say all right how do we use avid to support this and and support the district goals here we are of course continuing to expand awareness of the program and the supports that we have available and brad pico

has been fantastic this whole time in helping us secure funding we can use title funding and targeted school improvement funding for the avid program because it is supporting so many of our vulnerable populations and at this point we've done the bulk of the training but there with avid there is an an annual licensing fee that we pay um and we do lots of training for ourselves in-house for free and they offer lots of free online trainings but we will continue to have staff that will want to go to in-person trainings when they become available again or to longer more extended trainings and and we're going to continue to try to find the funding to send send them and build that excitement and that expertise and knowledge okay i think that's all i have any other

questions just so i have an understanding of the overall program is a kind of like a self-discipline so a student would learn to discipline themselves into doing things that are hard and they're not comfortable and they're not used to doing and they get support how do they have an opportunity do they have opportunities to come back and report on their their uh successes and how is that report given to their peers or to the training and the training how does that happen yeah i think that is a big part of it is figuring out okay how do i actually put myself together enough to do what i want to do i know you know i or figure out what i want to do and then what are the pieces that are going to help me

make the steps take the steps necessarily necessary to be successful in that so it is um you know those four domains on that first you know pyramid slideshow says you know instruction part of it is just teaching students how to access instruction better through organization through learning tools through study tools and in terms of staff professional development how to provide instruction that their big focus is wicker that provides writing inquiry collaboration organization and reading how do our lessons support that so that every student is getting opportunities to access rigorous curriculum so we have that instruction piece we have the culture piece of becoming aware of the opportunities and building that personal culture of how do i discipline myself to this how do i hold myself accountable and then the systems and the leadership are kind

of on the back side in terms of counseling administration schedules you know all of registration how do we make make sure students are able to access the opportunities that we have and and have the support to to do that well um so it it tries to tackle all of those pieces but absolutely that self-discipline discipline is a part of it there's a huge bunch of reporting that i do back to avid central which is kind of nice it's a hassle to do like we look at all of these demographics and we look at you know where the group's coming from and what classes are they taking and what grades are they getting and how how many days were they absent all of these things to see like are we seeing impacts are we seeing that

the students that are long term in the elective are being more successful are we seeing the impacts as we expand the number of teachers that have been trained and are using these strategies so in that way we report back to avid central and then we have that data to process at all of our sites and students eventually yes like right now we only have 9th and 10th graders and we start small by asking them to come present at board meetings but ultimately as they become juniors and seniors they have roles to play in the younger grades and in those classes and then even as they graduate we continue to attract them after they graduate and they we create sort of systems for them to come back and talk to the younger students as well thank

you i feel like i'm the only one asking questions i have another question too about balance you know in my way of thinking it could get a little out of balance not encouraging kids to to get the full experience in high school about extracurricular things are they encouraged to expand into clubs and and different programs that are available to them banned orchestra and that kind of stuff yes absolutely they have pl they have time for that they don't have to make a choice between avid or choir or avid and and and the play that we're going to do that kind of thing right no um you know ideally the master schedule works perfectly for everyone and it never does but so there will always be some conflicts we've tried our best to work those out

like for example this fall with our our freshmen we had a conflict with freshman football uh and and the avid elective because they had a freshman football pe class um so there are things there they're going to be little kinks like that that we have to work out and we did our best with the coaches to work out like all right how can we do this if a kid really wants to be an avid they want to do football we want to encourage that because i'm a huge proponent of extracurricular activities for lots of different reasons one just because i love the arts and i love sports uh and and loved having that access in high school but it also right all of those have really important development pieces for for our students um and

their experiences that they need to have and so yeah we will do our best to encourage the schedule makers to to fit it in where it doesn't have serious conflicts um there are bound to be some but but we'll do our best that's one of those breaking down the barriers pieces that we try to stay really aware of thank you you've been patient with me i appreciate that any other questions for anybody chuck jesse you mentioned that there was a fee membership or registration fee can you tell us what that is yeah it varies um at this point roughly the licensure fee will be between two and three thousand dollars or two thousand and thirty five hundred per site um the elementary ones are cheaper this year the junior high is registered as an elementary

school because they don't have an avid elective and that will be true next year as well so theirs is around 2 000 in terms of just the licensing fee and the high schools is closer to 3 500. okay thank you we've already put quite a bit of money into it through brad and it's been more expensive as we get teachers initially trained as we get access to their curriculum libraries but those fees are not repeated so for that fee we're getting the curriculum and the online courses or yeah so we get continued access to the curriculum for the students and curriculum for professional development for us to deliver to staff there are various other pieces like avid weekly which is a weekly publication of you know additional ideas strategies that teachers could be using in

the classroom it's we get support from avid personnel so we have an immediate regional support person and then statewide support people so for example they're the ones setting up the visit for us they're doing all of that work and i have another meeting with our regional support person tomorrow and so you know it's this this constant support for me and our teachers other teachers can access that that support as well okay thank you any other questions thank you jesse thank you i'm sure you wear yourself out doing it sometimes and you wonder why you're doing it but thank you for doing it appreciate your efforts and your willingness to do it thank you i'm excited about the program and i've been really really thankful for the support and encouragement that i've gotten from administration and

teachers um so far sometimes that's all you get so thank you thank you much all right we'll move to the next section of our program this evening our agenda this evening i'm sorry uh doctor we're going to turn it over for a br star awards thank you i wanted to also inform the board that our last year's last month's recipient amy hathcock recently performed a heimlich on a student that was joking and people were panicked she walked up performed the heimlich chunk of chicken came out and the kid was fine and so it is amazing what our counselors and teachers do and are prepared to do to help our kids our guidance counselors were recognizing this month along with a teacher angela desmond angela is at the elementary school becky wright becky montoya wright she's

at the junior high she's all she's a clinical counselor she does counseling as well she has a practice in addition to good work here and melissa martinez-greslick at the high school along with a relatively new employee this year nikki henry they are doing a wonderful job of providing support to our students in addition to the scheduling and everything else sometimes the kids are having a difficult day they need someone to talk to and so these are very hard-working professionals women and we're grateful for them and we will recognize them with a br star in addition to angela desmond a fantastic teacher at bress thank you they get plaques and they'll be presented in front of the student body that they represent their principal will do it in front of their faculty and good deal colleagues

good deal all right the next item is item 1.1 next election of the governing board officers for 2022. uh open for discussion you sure you don't want to discuss i would like you to continue as board president and i would like to have chuck waldo continue his advice because you guys are awesome so there's really no dis what if what if we want to discuss it right are you okay with that i am okay with that so are we ready to have a motion and vote i think so if you're okay i'm gonna move i think we need a motion to vote for the governing board president for the year 2022. also move to um just have a motion amend i recommend is that what it is or set in motion or emotion i move

to have david merrill as president of blue ridge unified school district so is there any more discussion that is a second on that all in favor i didn't vote by the way i was just so it looks like vote for yourself looks like it's unanimous margaret is not here she had a commitment that kept her away from the board meeting this evening she would have been here last week but since we moved it a week back she couldn't be here so she needs to be excused so we are we are to the point we need the vice president and i'll make a motion to uh move i move that check waldo be the vice president for the year 2022. second from jennifer all in favor then again unanimous all right thank you very much like

i said i just get a lot more phone calls and a lot more text and everything that goes on at the school has my signature on it no your signature so if anything's going to come back it'll come around back around my neck not your neck sorry thank you mary for keeping me out of trouble and the things that you prepare the documents all right item 1.2 resolution a resolution authorizing the approval and execution of funding proposal grants a special project vouchers warrants salary and other expenses to be signed between board meetings the superintendent seeks board authorization to allow a resolution authorizing vouchers salary and other district expenses to be signed in advance of scheduled board meetings do you want to put that into english sure the timing of the business operations are such that

they don't always flow with a once a month meeting and there are people waiting to get paid or contracts that must be signed and so this empowers myself and the chief financial officer who's brenda thomas martinez to transact that business and the board has given us the authorization to do it in every case we come back to the board to make sure that these actions are ratified by the board but it gives us a chance to transact business in advance of the meeting this is a customary item it's sort of it is an annual deal and it's it's needed to perform school business any questions or comments about that we have a motion to accept then item one point two have them have a motion from diana a segment from chuck all in favor that

two is unanimous item one point three identify and record conflicts of interest for governing board members school administration and staff district-wide so this is an opportunity for those on the board that might have a conflict of interest with somebody at the school chuck do you want to start and we'll just go around this way i i don't have any conflicts i don't have anybody work here or even a student attending right now my daughter caroline cox is a teacher at the elementary school my son-in-law eric cox is a part owner of white mountain physical therapy and they have a contract with the school district to use part of the facility in this building and he also is a coach for the football team and i have three grandchildren that attend blue ridge as well that's

ryan cox lauren cox and jared cox that's it appreciate all that they do that just means that you can't vote on anything that would be in particular to the you'd have to recuse yourself from that vote all right are you ready for my list okay so um wait let me write this down i'm just kidding i have it written down for youtube okay so ian brimhall pllc in arizona mountain orthopedics is owned by my husband and myself and he does volunteer work and usually is the medical physician on the sidelines for most of our varsity events also we own arizona mountain specialist group which includes a couple of other physicians that are part of that organization that also volunteer for the school and we are part owners in the sunrise surgical center and they also

do surgical and procedures on injured kids in case of emergency here we go and then we are the owners of camp grace that provide after school programs for our students and then some non-profit events i'm also an employee of white mountain physical therapy so we do some athletic training here at the school i'm the founder of white mountain youth foundation so we put on the high mountain half marathon and then provide scholarships for our students and then i'm also the founder a co-founder with my husband for brim hall family foundation where we donate a lot of money for equipment and events at the school and also project elevate which also provides equipment and pro does events for the school so that's it thank you and thank you all for for what all you do oh

i have a child also that's part of the school now and also a um foreign exchange student that's here too so thanks i think that's it you got all that mary we already know okay thanks and i have one my daughter amanda butler works at the high school and throughout the district to do with attendance and with nursing thank you um margaret will have to margaret will uh we've submitted a list for her the same as last year which mary do you have those that essentially her husband lynn gaby is a there's a doctor eye doctor and they donate work sometimes and they donate glasses to students sometimes that's about the extent of her conflict yeah but we always just want to make sure she we knew she is and then on mine there are

two firms one of which uh right welcome paulie my brother's the principal owner of that firm he's presently inactive of that um he's on a sabbatical for three years uh that firm in its original form which was i can't remember the name but my brother was still a principal owner the district has been doing business with that firm for over 20 years i've been here for seven we still continue to do business we have a cadre of about five attorneys that we use and wright welcome probably is one of those five of the firms that we use another one is the trust the leadership academy the district has done business with the trust as its provider for insurance for i think close to 30 years 25 years my consulting firm provides support to the trust

leadership academy those are the two issues or conflicts that i have thank you and thank you for what you do so with those um disclosed we have a motion to accept those disclosures as stated in 1.2 a motion from chuck have a second from anyone sacred from dying all in favor yes 1.3 i'm sorry thank you jennifer that was 1.3 item 1.4 directive of annual investment reinvestment of all monies within the school district service fund dr wright you want to explain that for those listening yes there are times where you have pretty large sums of cash that have to be directed into an account through the county they're on interest bearing very very low percentage rate but they're they're guaranteed funds and so they earn less than half of a percent but we need the

board's authorization to continue to do that so at least the taxpayer money is earning some interest and it is in a safe account and so in order to direct these funds to that money market account we need the board's authorization annually any question questions comments or concerns about that if not korea excuse me can i have a motion for item 1.4 a motion from chuck a second from diana hall all in favor that also is unanimous okay item 1.5 a governing board that delegation of purchasing authority and again dr wright would you explain that this is something we have to do every year yes and these are for items given we meet uh once a month there are there's timing of certain purchase items especially in today's market for instance when we're going out to

technology we purchased a cache of computers or certain elements items that need to be where time of essence is important we need to have we have there are set limits based on the area that myself only myself and brenda thomas martinez our cfo can sign for but we see we seek the board's approval annually in order to conduct this business as well just as a statement that's not a one signature that's a dual signature on that right it can be up to a certain point right what's the list it depends on the item in most cases at least has my signature on it most cases both but at least one or the other all right any questions about that any concerns comments item 1.5 can we have a motion to accept a motion from jennifer

a second from check all in favor that also has passed it 1.6 establishes the dates times and locations for our regular governing board meetings basically it's the third wednesday of every month last year we were the second i'm sorry tuesday sorry tuesdays and wednesdays get confused because they're in the middle of the week and i try to take naps through those days no so used to be the second tuesday of every month but we had conflicts with the second tuesday with dr wright being able to be here on time so with the meetings that he has to attend so we've moved that to the third meeting uh any conflicts anybody can see i'm wondering if we can move the december 20th it's really close to christmas time absolutely maybe move that up a week or

even a different day absolutely even if you would like to do the um would it be the 13th would be the second tuesday the 13th yeah i would even be okay to move it even to the first tuesday of that month we could but we have we'd like to close the month out all the financials so if we could do the second one the 13th would that be acceptable yes would that cause a conflict with you or is that no in fact that's just an oversight in my part thank you if that works uh mr president if you'd like to so that would december meeting would be changed from the 20th to the 13th yes sir all right any other suggestions comments if not can we have a motion to accept item 1.6 with the

revision of december 20th to december 13th have a motion from diana second from chuck all in favor thank you that's unanimous okay the next item on the agenda is a consent agenda and that's items all 2.1 through 2.8 are there any items board members that you have reviewed that you would like to take out personal uh individually and we vote on those individually or can we just move on the entire consent agenda nothing we have a motion to accept the consent agenda emotion from chuck second from diana all in favor okay that is unanimous also item three superintendent report item 3.1 dr wright will turn some time to you thank you uh last meeting the board directed me to look at our average daily membership and our student account to give an update on that

and to draw a little bit of a comparison beginning of the year and then the most current figures and so i have that information for the board as of today we have 1860 students in total and if i break down those by campus we have 694 of those are at the high school 293 are at the junior high and 876 are at the elementary school grades k through 6. we began the year at 1880 and so there hasn't been a a big drop most of the pickup has been at the elementary with 11 students above what they were in august and at the junior high they started with 290 they have three extra students the biggest changes you see are the most transitions are at the high school level you have students if they're going

to drop out they drop out in this december if they move they normally move in december we'll probably get some kids in january from out of state and uh in the state we may get you know five to ten at the high school and so the the the total population of uh you have to remember we have 121 kindergarten students we're only funded for 60.5 of those kids because we offer all-day kindergarten we're only funded for half day so that's at a cost of about a quarter of a million dollars a year with all the other little intricacies kids that are going to navit programs students that are going part-time or online we are funded for 1740 kids so we have we have to support 1860 but we're only support we're only given funding for

0631740. that's part of the convoluted arizona funding formula and so that's it is what it is i won't be labored to talk about why that is or if i agree or disagree but it's what it is are there any questions on the student populations at any of those campuses or that report august versus january 18th so just so i understand we lost high school students and gained junior high and gained elementary students correct okay correct so can we um in the past and i know that covet probably has reduced our ability to have meetings but can we go back and review like average class sizes and see how we're doing in regards to administrative support versus student support and teachers just so we can have a better grasp sure of and look forward sure so

wilt that with with your uh request mr president we'll do our class sizes per grade level i will add that we're doing much better this year than in years past and there is great energy around trying to keep these numbers as small as we can to for learning loss it's really hard when you have 32 kids in an elementary class to to function and to make up learning it's even more difficult so we'll talk about some strategies and we'll also give that information with your permission i'll carry that over to next month thank you thank you in the past we've also talked about how those students and those numbers and their six how successful they are in their education plan if we could maybe just include that in their review so remediation that we talked

about because of loss of students or students that are online how successful are they versus in the traditional classroom just basic that is easy we the drop-out rate is three times as high for online we have a small population roughly half of them don't make it in a really quick short order right and so it's not a big number i mean we're looking nine or 11 not a big number blue ridge online but the and there's two reasons for that some of the students that are going online they might have had uh an earlier a long-term expansion or an expulsion and that was the only opportunity when they came back or it was a family situation that urged that in some cases they're really high performing students but that's very a very narrow margin with

our high amount of coveted cases at this time and then with white mountain apache reservation closing for two weeks i just want to make sure that we have a good grasp of like how successful these kids are during times that they're not at school so those are just some things that i yeah and we'll we will report back on that mary the short story is online is not nearly as effective as in person and that's why our energy is to get them back and keep them here right and that uh but we do have it it's probably anecdotal it's not going to be a research sound in terms of uh having the data won't be without it problems because it's anecdotal it won't be we don't have a baseline right and the current numbers but

we can at least give you some ideas yeah because we talked in one time having like a hybrid or opportunity so for example my daughter was out of school because we had a wonderful household of covid and as a result she comes back to school and she's 120 pages behind in an english book because we're not how are we approaching that gap that's my question yeah because i know that there's some families that are also afraid to come back to school right now so when we have large gaps of three weeks or four weeks of missing school because of outbreaks like how can we support and the short answer is we cannot the work the work mounts and when we looked at a hybrid it's not sustainable we'd have to add staff so what happens

is we do have a good number of students with high high absenteeism both local and that are open enrollment and what we're have informed the open enrollment students is if you continue with high levels of absenteeism you will not be renewed so that's one of the elements that we have is in order to maintain that people have to maintain their absences because our teachers it's impossible for them to make up two years of learning inside one to begin with now the kids that are functioning well and have function well and are typically in in mid higher socioeconomical have suffered far less than those that are in the lower middle and lowest that students at the lowest level have obviously suffered the most we are not making a lot of progress with the kids at the

very low levels and our high absenteeism is among the highest in those groups and so there are outreach programs we have summer school planned and we have some remediation going on now but we're going to see it in the data and i would say statewide you'll see the same thing areas with high socioeconomics those kids are doing okay lower to middle are not going to have made up much difference in what they did last year it's going to be really a two or three year project with those that are behind and as far as just being honest with the community we do not have the capacity to maintain an online presence and an in-person presence and a hybrid presence we'd love to do all that and we did we considered it but in visiting with

our administration and our staff just not sustainable but we'll provide the data on the plan and then i want to make sure i understand we've captured your concerns um jennifer so the you want an update on absenteeism and you want to update on class size by grade like for example i called the school and i said i need homework for my kids and i'm not receiving a response so i think that it's important that maybe we implement some type of regimen that maybe either comes from the office or down below because it would be nice if someone and that maybe we just don't have staff could follow up you know when someone's gone from school for seven days because of continued fevers or whatever it would just be nice if i don't know how we

can track it it's going to be something that's new and different but leaving a message on a voicemail is very is kind of difficult to be able to get was like we just have to figure out a plan like what's what's our plan what can we inform our family members to be able to reach out and i'm sure it was also me because i was really sick during that time so i wasn't as active if i would have been healthy with a quarantined kid and this another kid sick with covid but i think that there's just a gap that we could fill and i don't know if who was responsible the counselors at the school when there's high absenteeism to call and say hey how are you doing or i don't know like generally generally

i know that the from administrative point of view the principal's expectation is if you have a kid that's out for a long time i'd like you to reach out to them and find out why and at that time what you won't hear is or shouldn't here's oh don't worry about it you'll get to it well if you've missed a week of work you should be worried because there should be quite a bit of stuff you've missed and vast majority of the classes there are so the front line communication is that teacher and parent and those are the relationships we need to continue to build it would be nice if we could have a whole other arm created to do that i know we don't have the budget capacity to do that but that's where that

relationship is and that communication is really important and that's where it should be had and i don't know if our computer system can like do an alert for a teacher like boom reach out to this kid because teachers are overwhelmed and stressed just as much and sick too so i don't know if that's an option is if that's an additive feature that we can have in synergy or something yeah so okay thank you can you put that one down as a follow-up comment is that other one i even brushed my teeth working sorry is is there any possibility that avid could get involved with recommendations to some of these kids that have really fallen behind that are good kids good students that they just don't get to support is there a vehicle for them to

be addressed or flagged you know for a better word i don't know potentially is this working yeah um potentially i mean certainly again the kids that are in that elective class should be having that and and it's you know i agree i think teachers are overwhelmed um and at this point i know sort of my habit has been if a kid reach out reaches out to me or a parent to me then i send work immediately but you know we don't have the communication at the high school between you know our attendance or the front office then saying sending work like that system is not in place my thought was since if they're in avid and they and the avid group they're in the class that they're in recognizes that they're gone is there any

way they can reach out to that or are there teachers perhaps in the junior high they can say i've got this good student that's just can't seem to get to school is there any way that student could be uh recruited by avid that's what my question was absolutely i see how it works good for everybody i just wonder if it's working yeah no and um i think ideally yes right the kids in those elective cohorts are do have that access point um and yes those are the kinds of students that we're asking teachers to recommend and it has it is a little bit of a of a juggling act right now because if they if it's an absenteeism from a week or two weeks of sickness then that's one thing but you know so but

we're listening to teacher recommendations for all of that yeah thanks i know it's kind of overwhelming but i appreciate your interest in it thank you dr wright i will add that there's a note in attendance that we even created a field for um covet covert related quarantine or family member whatever i tell you the principles are very understanding and try to working through that there are cases where children have lost siblings and they're gone for a week or two we work with them and we help them i mean we have a heart that's why i'm saying it's not there's not a one fix all easy thing but i would say that the administration's doing the best they can what we need to do is see what other automated tools are there to push information to

make sure there's a dashboard that we understand who's at risk if you remember we have a list of 197 kids either attendance behavior or worry that we're tracking already and these are a vast majority that we're worried about self-harm or harm to others and so there's only so much attention you can do and so if parents are not participating and parents are not following up they're not going to get the same support said if they're kept bugging them saying i need to get this homework i need to get this homework one phone call leaving a message probably won't do it but a phone call every day will yeah like when your kid cuts class or it has an unexcused absence there's a great i mean they text you and they call you right so you

know um but maybe there can be something else because it should be it should be simple and automated like oh reminder you know like these are your options and like i know mrs reek's email address but it's really hard to find the right email addresses for your teachers for your kids especially the beginning of the semester when you don't even really know if they're your exact teachers so it could be like your class your student was if we bug him enough your student was missing in this class today and then could link somehow to be able to respond to that teacher because i did old school which is incorrect that i called the office left a message a couple of days in a row saying hey can you just let the teachers know to send

homework home with carmen not the right choice right because i'm sure they had 250 or 300 phone calls of sick people that week just in the high school um so they're just an easier resource i think might help i don't know and it could be the phone or computer system we'll also meet with the principals and explain ask them what some what are their ideas their it and our our whole team our technology team there's people that aren't even in you know that might be in technology or another department they have great ideas so we'll discuss that at our next cabinet meeting and see what other tools if nothing else make sure we're keeping score and understand who's suffering excessive absenteeism and when what are we doing to intervene and then what supports are provided

to help them catch up academically i think those are all fair requests are you ready for move on from the okay thank you everyone asking too many questions so we we had numerous staff and mostly staff that had either coveted or coveted like symptoms or in in a probably eight or ten cases had positive cases of covet and we had staff members that had family members that had positive cases i can tell you in our we have a small staff at the at the home office we have the district maybe eight people we had four that were either had coveted or had coveted symptoms and they all came down at once and so that's why we took friday off to try to create some space and hopefully it looked like it bore out pretty good

i didn't i didn't have a list or principals weren't calling me in a panic because they didn't have enough teachers so hopefully we've created a little bit of space there for them we're still operating on the premise we want to keep our schools open the next stage would be stage two which would be still provide transportation still provide meals and supervision and they would work in open learning labs we haven't had to go to that yet but if need be we can and so i i think the administration has done an outstanding job of keeping everything running we're suffering some sickness in our transportation department now and there's only so many of those bus drivers you could lose before you say we can't transport you to school so we're hoping and praying that they stay

healthy we can continue keep those wheels on the bus going round and round we have had for the last eight months almost nine a committee comprised of parents teachers administration and others that are working on that alignment of our committee and looking through i mean they have they spent hours looking through different curriculum sources our effort is in english math and science is to align those efforts kindergarten through 12th grade and as it is right now we have some alignment in math at some grades we have some supports in english or math of some grades in some cases they're different and we're not aligning from one grade band to the other for instance eighth grade through ninth grade that's an important connection and so we have been committed to the board requested about a year

ago year and a half ago almost two years ago that we need to align this curriculum we need to look for a bona fide curriculum that we could in our core subjects math science and english that we could rely on and so after eight months there's a whole system of math science and english that's in the hall over here that's open for ex public inspection we'll start sending out emails putting on the marquee put text messages letting people know if they want to come out and look at it it's mcgraw-hill we have fortuitously have certain systems in place with mcgraw-hill already and so there's some synergy there because you don't have to replace some of the items you're already purchasing and we're looking for a six-year window we're not looking for a one-time thing i

think that was our teacher's biggest worry is that if you give me something for a year it doesn't help and then i rely on it and you can't fund it so we're using our sr3 funds to purchase this curriculum district-wide um we haven't started negotiating the price with it i'm going to start that this week they always give you a price then we start negotiating and so i'm going to negotiate as hard as i can and then after the 60-day period in advance that probably february 15th i'll have ryan grace who he and mr pico have headed up this effort as the committee chairs co-chairs give the board and at that time the community a presentation of what they did what they looked at the metrics that were used to assign points for each of

these five or six systems they looked at why they arrived at mcgraw-hill why the committee recommended this one and that will probably be the better part of a half an hour to 45 minutes to an hour presentation and then all the materials will remain on inspection until the i think it's march 10th and then we would hope to have everything completed and be ready to make the recommendation at the march 22nd if i'm remem board meeting for that authorization that the board authorizes us to use those funds we'll order it and have it in place before the 2223 school year begins and that would also mean professional development that's all part of the of the whole package for six years you get professional development that's already paid in advance for your teachers teachers get access

to the information in advance too so part of it's online there's a large part of it are consumable items that are given every year kids have work books that are used and we get new ones every year and that's for a six year period so i i think it's been a huge blessing that you have these coveted funds that are available and it's for learning loss and also for alignment of our curriculum our teachers have been asking for this in some way shape or form for the seven years i've been here and so i think it's going to be a big step in the right direction and providing very necessary supports to our hard-working teachers and make it a lot easier for administrators to help support that learning too any questions on that before i

go on so it's like we're getting moving beyond beyond textbooks oh yeah beyond textbooks essentially is curriculum that's online that you could go and access so this will be like i'm getting an algebra one book and now i have assignments and or whatever or you'll have a key that the teachers will either have either books or a key that and the students will have access to either a consumable item like a a textbook that's looks like you know what workbook and then the teachers will have access immediately to start preparing for the curriculum and that and then stuff that's online the kids will have access to that in this for instance in math we're always using we're already using alex as be a part of this district-wide so what we had to do is get

our math teachers to speak the same math language and agree to the same systems and so what we wanted to be careful not to do for instance mr butterfield there's not a better math teacher in the world and i'll tell you that because the last two years in a row every one of his kids have passed that test every one 50 out of 50. and so you don't want to mess that up you want to learn what's working you want to learn from david what do you need to continue doing what you're doing and how can we take what you're doing to the next level communicate vertically between the great bands and once we have that's a lot of work these teachers and the committee members have put in a lot of time and then

it you know the hard work starts right when everything arrives because it's the implementation and then it's staying true and implementing these materials with fidelity meaning hey we're all in you don't have an opportunity to opt out why don't do that i do it a different way so that's why it's it's the next the hard work comes in when they start coming and making sure that you're using the materials as they were intended so we'll increase teachers efficiency they won't have to spend so much out of time class trying to find something to teach and then they can still do creative act activities basically sure it provides the foundation and all of the materials are aligned with the state standards the standards that the state says these are the roughly 750 standards you need to

have of that number 100 750 whatever the number there are power standards that recur frequently in math english and science and those power standards are embedded within that curriculum too and it gives the teacher a chance to focus on oh they need to understand these concepts in order to be successful so it's not a function of teaching to the test it's a function of teaching those skills that they need to succeed academically and they do align with the standards and so that you're going to do better on the assessments that you're that you're given to any questions on that we'll have that presentation for april 15th is that the right date mary february i said april that's tax day right february 15th thank you mary the next thing is and and we are not teaching

this year because we have we're going through a process starting probably in april we're going to uh the new statute that the board adopted we suspended the instruction of sex education this year we're going to look at the program we have right now and the committee which comprise the community members parents students administrators and teachers will decide is this effective here's what we've been doing and these are the great bands that get it are there any changes needed and that committee will come up with recommendations prior to the start of the 22-23 school year and then we'll implement whatever the committee and the board ultimately if it approves it that's what we'll use we're we've instituted a campaign we're really putting a lot of effort into the tax credits tax credits can be used for

the next three years for anything school related clubs extracurricular co-curricular meaning sports and music and fine arts robotics cte class supplies you can target you can direct those any way you want it and that can be done that 2021 contribution can take place until april 15 to 2022. so we're really trying to get that message out our revenues in that account have dropped significantly last year the district infused a hundred thousand dollars that we really didn't have and had to cut other areas to support transportation and lodging and meals and equipment for fine arts and sports we won't have the budget capacity next year we can make that up with tax credits so the schools are working with their clubs and teams and we're trying to get the message out with the community if you

haven't yet made your contribution tell us where you want it to go and if you have a tax liability reduces that amount and i think when people understand it we're making it easy too you can do it online going right online tax credits you can issue it if there are people that have outstanding equipment we still have sixty seven thousand dollars we're working to get back you can pay your fee through tax credit and the first drop down is damaged equipment so you can use that as well so that that is an ongoing you'll hear a lot about that in the coming days and weeks right till the 15th of april are there any questions on that can we and do a little bit better in marketing on how our we use those funds because

i've heard you know through the grapevine in the community that a lot of people are unwilling to contribute to the tax credits for us and they're maybe take sending it to veterans village or something like that because veterans village will say we did this with it in our school it's just like a global fund and they just don't know where their money is going and ours when you donate you have to say where it goes it doesn't go into a global fund you have to say right but they feel like i donated did it happen like we bought xyz sporting you know so they just need to know that their money is going someplace instead of going to some fictitious area even though you have to earmark it because i think that people are saying

i haven't seen my money being used the way that i thought it would be used so i'm not donating so i've heard that frequently over the last couple of months well i'll talk to you better i'll talk to you individually but what i could not commit to is returning a report to everybody that makes any donation no the tax credits only 200 per person per person right it's not like a donation to it it's just 200 per person so my wife and i we can only donate 400 to that that tax credit right so we just need to say our tax credit dollars have been used for programs or things such as this so they just need to know what it's going for because everyone just thinks it's going into somebody's pocket okay so what

yeah and that that's a fair comment so what we're trying to do in the messaging your tax credits like on the marquee fine art sports clubs that that is that message we're trying to get out there you're right we want to make sure there's there's a lot of misinformation going around and so want to make sure that people are assured that if you earmark it for the music program and you want it to go to dr theresa dick that's where it goes goes to her students want to go to sports it goes into sports absolutely absolutely well as we paid for 250 000 miles you know for our sports teams you know what i mean so each child you paid for 500 miles per child you know so you could say stuff like that where

they think okay this makes sense yeah absolutely if i know that i what i'm saying is accurate absolutely but we we can do and and must do a better job of expressing the uh the appropriate uses for that fund and then find a way to return and report and say for for this year for instance our goal is a hundred thousand dollars to support high school and junior high athletics and fine arts both transportation supplies all the things that they need equipment and if we hit that goal it would be wise to come back to the school board and said hey with tax credit dollars we just invested twenty thousand dollars in equipment for girls this and that and boys and that and this is where it went you're right that would be that would

be wise to do like we're trying to get a hundred thousand dollars then people would be more willing to donate people just need to have a purpose and a goal and then i think that we'll be able to raise it and a way to keep score and let them know how we're doing on it that those are all good comments to continue our program because we're going to use this for bussing whatever absolutely part of the approach is we're having our teams say email your grandparents aunts uncles and everybody in state and uh every school in the country is doing that they are you know your grandpa believe me with 23 21 grandkids i get an email from a grandkid almost daily say hey grandpa can you do this you're very expensive the the uh

there's two other things the last the second the last thing is i want to report back on the love kitchen which is functioned as a great community support for i think 35 years it is transitioning to the community kitchen and a lady named don and don plaza ricketts is the co-founder or and founder of a 503c a non-profit to help out raise some money their target is to raise about seventy five thousand dollars the building has suffered deferred maintenance for all those years the school is not in a position nor would it be appropriate to say here here's taxpayer money we're going to invest in a building that students don't learn and we wouldn't do that and we shouldn't we don't but we must insure it and part of that insurance has if it suffers

damage because of water and some of those things we had some pipe damage freezing and that kind of thing so we have about 25 000 worth of coverage but there's a need of closer to 80-100 so there's a shortfall significantly that the this group is working to make up and so don's working with local businesses and leaders and members of the community to say we have it we want to open this up in order to do it we have to purchase some new equipment we have to do some construction work in here and so she's really done a wonderful job of communicating the district is more than willing to happy if you remember we've always leased the building for a dollar but it has to be a cost neutral situation for the taxpayer in the

district and so the liability insurance utilities all of those things have to be absorbed by the foundation and she didn't blink and i said sure i'll go raise a hundred thousand dollars we'll get it done i'm thinking it's probably going to be april or may she might surprise us but that's where we are with it we're supportive of it we just don't have the you know the resources nor the frankly wouldn't be appropriate use of of school funds to invest a bunch of money in a building that students don't use but i i'm excited about that that that partnership we have and just finally you know there's a narrative going around how public schools are failing it couldn't be more wrong our teachers and our administrators and our bus drivers and our food service people

have never worked harder so i've got a 120 adam reeks and jesse reeks i've got they're good people stephanie conan johnny had seen an article and that i cheered briefly and you know stating that destroy public schools you're going to destroy 500 000 mills that have been distributed you're going to destroy kids that are now at elite air force academies west point columbia a good percentage of the goes npc uh three of the kids that are installing a floor in my house came from jim rice's uh what is that chuck cabinet making we now have construction i don't want to hear about how public schools are failing and how teachers are failing this i don't buy it what i will tell you they've never worked harder and so what these people what they will do

is all they can do and they show up every day to help kids period they don't show up to have controversy they don't show up to fill uh kids minds with things that are going to bug their parents that's not their job it's not what they do they show up to help kids and they do it every day and they do it really well and so i've never been more proud and board members can be proud of our teachers and our support staff we've got the best if there's no other questions i'm done with my report thank you dr wright appreciate your emotion and i'm sure that emotion is felt by the staff and faculty of this school uh if there's nothing further the next um item on the agenda is the announcements and we

only have one announcement that our regularly scheduled board meeting will be february 15th at five o'clock at this location this next month so i have a motion to adjourn emotion from check second from jennifer jennifer in the mask all in favor of adjournment we're adjourned thank you all so much
