001e e e ready to go robot 3 2 1 test 1 2 3 today we're at a robot Rumble where we have probably about 50 robots from I believe it's about 14 15 different high schools here all competing and there was about 300 kids here as well and uh kids design robots for a few months then they come out here going to battle them together I think there's four major four or five major robots so there's a Pneumatic flipper then there's a horizontal or vertical spinner which is just a piece of metal that spins really fast or there's a pusher or there's a drum fast metal or you flip people my favorite part is the competition day here it doesn't matter if you spend like $11,000 on a robot or 3,000 anything can go wrong
002like right now we just lost our batteries came off and we lost the whole round because of that but you know we get that we're going to put it better and we're going to win the next one so even though the competition is only two days there's probably about four or five months of a building process that goes into it and we manufacture everything ourselves so we cut all the metal all the poly carb whatever else do all the electronics it's pretty labor intensive but at the end you learn a lot and it's really [Applause] fun so when I began I didn't know you how to use any power tools I didn't know how to use any of the machines there but now I know a lot more than from what I knew in the
003beginning I think even if you think it might not be for you give it a shot just go in for a couple meetings and see if you like it or not spatula driving foot long into the corner My Hope Is that along with robotics from what I learn and what I can use for future applications it can help me get into a good school and good good education I think my favorite part is really the beginning of robots and just seeing all the kids excitement and you're just so jacked to be here and U you know seeing all their hard work come to foru well I always wanted to be a teacher I've had fantastic teachers throughout my entire education career which kind of just persuaded me to become a teacher feel like the support
004throughout all the schools I've been at um has been fantastic and just led me to where I am now especially with being a culinary teacher I always loved to bake and cook and it took you know my passion and then me also wanting to work with kids and combined it into two and just been fantastic someone did the TR meas um you can add a little bit more if you would like growing up I went to prospect um coming back here has been fantastic I feel all the support from everyone in the building students and staff overall um it's just been great it's been a great experience especially being so young 10 seconds turn it off and scrape it down yeah cuz you don't want to over mix it being a culinary teacher is so
005fun um the kids are so Lively it's a very unique experience obviously cuz the kids are always up and moving the kids cook every day I think it's a nice break too for them um because obviously they're not sitting down for the full 80 minutes they're up doing things they learning life skills so I switched my major during my college Years I switched from elementary Ed to secondary Ed um dual credit allowed me to do that I did multiple dual credit classes in high school throughout a whole range of different things they helped a ton they saved me a bunch of time and money if I didn't have those dual credit classes I would still be in college right now rather than teaching because I would have been in college an extra year but the
006Dual credit classes saved me and in the long run they helped me so much and helped me jump start my career oh yeah I encourage all students to take any of these dual credit classes or internships because they helped me so much and helped me fulfill my career dreams and I hope that it will do the same for all the students that's [Music] good and away we go this school year in our Advanced Diagnostics in our vocational class we're going to be building this uh electric car from the switch EV it's students are really excited about this and it's going to be a great learning opportunity for them you want it under this oh it's out I think over putting this car together was so cool because it's just a great learning experience and you're
007able to be a Hands-On building a car from scratch basically just a frame and now you're seeing more electric cars on the road today and so it's a good good skill to know good skill to have you can fix your own cars don't have to pay so much Mike K did all the wiring with Isaac and a couple other students did help as well and uh they knocked it out of the park they really really did I I'm I'm pull away I really am with uh what they accomplished oh my part I did most of the electrical work just like putting all the components together hooking all the wires up you know Cable Management make it all look nice my dad taught me a little bit uh it's most of it just kind of like
008from experience just watching uh videos online about Electronics you know making my own projects through this project it's helping me become a better engineer because I'll understand the system and you get to see all the flaws in this like they put powder coat on the holes and then you had to tap them out so it's helping me in like in an engineering like design process whereas it's more testing and prototyping to get the right result doesn't just come the first time takes time and effort and I would say I have a better understanding of components that go into an entire mechanical [Music] System since I like Electronics this much I made something for the the holiday season this year I made a it's like a controller it's like 24 outputs so just you can plug
009in 24 separate channels like sets of Lights into them and they can they chase around they Flash in different ways all right so I actually I I won an award this year from the city of elro Village quite the accomplishment to have one word from it it's the entirety of elro Village which is even more impressive out of like 30,000 something people I why W the word and away we go so now that the car is built uh our next step step is going to be working in the textbook working on lab activities and getting the students to uh actually do some Hands-On learning with this vehicle our first visit is going to be to Mr burret here gentleman who made this happen hey Jeff how you doing good are you in your office no
010oh okay no uh I'm I'm in the electric car right outside your office here in the window well we try to pay a visit to Mr burrett and Mr Kelly but they're uh they're out at a meeting right now it actually rides really nice it really does the acceleration is good the handling is good uh it's going to be interesting when the students get to drive it they'll be their first vehicle they have driven without power steering let's see how really good the suspension is all right Mr Z is great great teacher great guy and thank you to d214 for sponsoring this I'm very grateful to have Mr Z as my auto teacher he's he's always Cooperative even when I'm not not the best student he's always he's always Cooperative I'm I'm just think f
011for all that he does for us and being just being an awesome teacher in general I am super proud of the kids and what they have accomplished this learning opportunity it really is is amazing uh what I I'm really excited for is is the memories that uh We've made for these students uh they're going to never forget this project the rest of their life well welcome to the student services area of our school that's going to be under construction for the next four to 5 months so this whole area will be redone and gutted kind of from the inside out I'm Katie Katie's a sophomore here at elgrove is in our media pathway and we'll be shadowing and helping us documenting this process so this mail room this is an original space where we used
012to have The copier as well as where teachers got their mail every day we have now redistributed mail and this will no longer be here in the future be our health services area that will have two um offices for our nurses as well as four beds a large waiting area exam room and to ensure that all of our students are served and supported when they're not filling well so moving on we're going to be going into um currently what's our security attendance uh dhw area also known as Deans so this is where your student would check in if they were either late or leaving for the day to check attendance this is also where the Deans are um if you've had any um interactions with be student Behavior this is where they would go this
013area will be very similar to what it feels like now the Deans will still be here but um this will be different as it is going to be part of uh the the health services area and going to be a kitchenet for staff here's a relic from the past this big large Vault that I think all the schools have this is no longer going to be here it's currently kind of a large storage area but we're going to be taking this Vault out moving on we have some other offices that we're going to be passing by these will be uh become the registar the master schedu and then uh the associate principal of student services so if you need to register or uh get a transcript this is the area that you will be coming
014to on this side this is going to be currently this is the cagen career center this is going to be reimagined into a much different type look and feel it's going to Anchor this area and it's going to be an all glass room that's really going to be able to serve our students in many different ways whether it's visiting a college investigating a career or even having a large group meeting that'll be like where we're standing right now from here on out this is where all of our counselors and support staff work this will look and feel very different the offices will be moved to this side of the space and this wall will be all glass with entrances into the courtyard it feels very dark and closed in so we want to ensure that
015um it doesn't feel that way anymore and we can have lots of bright light and a really soothing and therapeutic environment for students and staff all of our counselors will be organized in a different way now it's organized in the Pod style so they're going to have they're grouped by two counselors and two related service for each of the grade levels so we'll have a freshman pod that's going to be grouped together sophomore juniors seniors so their offices will be all together and so that's what this whole area will be will be those different groups of PODS along with a small meeting room for those offices to use and then we're finally entering the end of the end of the hallway and going into the former Health Services office this will now be offices for
016the Freshman pod this will look and feel totally different we're also excited to improve this entrance to our school so this will I hope match the foyer of uh door one and have a little more grandiose uh feel and welcome it'll showcase our students and our staff and the things that we value here at El grve High School kick by Robbie Gold and over in to the upright and it's go like as a kicker it's like it's awesome to think about him as a coach and now that it's really happening I'm really excited kick was down the middle and good 49ers win it man that feels good seeing someone that played in the NFL and is now going to be our coach just made me feel inspired kick on the way down the middle and
017gold is good at the buzzer up are right Robbie Gold here your new head football coach at rolling medals high school I'm super excited cuz I got a chance to meet the staff and the kids and and some school Community leaders I'm looking forward just to be able to get in the building and start working with the coaches and and the players and and the school Community some of the Mustangs guys F get this place rocking everybody at at Ro Meadows it's just a lot of uh kind of Star Struck but I think people have kind of settled into it a little bit and um I think everyone's just really excited and really hopeful what for what the team is going to be able to do next year oh my days is unbelievable kind of
018like a dream come true I didn't really believe this was going to happen you know I thought it was like just rumors and like get like some other coach but no this is really a really cool experience I think this is a perfect opportunity for for me uh to give back in the way the coaches did for me to get to where I was able to have a lot of fun playing sports and to me I can't see myself in a way where I can't be able to do that here for these kids and then if you turn on the film for these kids uh one thing you're going to notice is they have a lot of grit they have a lot of physicality they love and have a passion for football and when you
019see that that should get you excited about a program like rolling [Music] medals the reason why I'm here is cuz you know ever since I was little I started doing construction you know that's what I want to do as my future the career path I want to take probably end up going to Roofing trade school what I really like about uh construction is seeing the finished product it looks looks very nice and it's all worth it once you know you see it all come together through the apprenticeship program uh we actually offered some work over the early summer um on this house we had a handful of apprentices join us and work on the laundry room and the uh front porch Oscar was one of those apprentices who joined us and the work ethic he
020showed and the skill he's shown in last year in pack and that uh that summer opportunity really made us want to bring him on the site kind of to help run Crews you know especially as the walls go up so it's great to be able to you know Empower him to be in charge of other students and he's been a great help to us here on the site to keep things moving along so today uh I was tackling in the bathroom um Mr J told me that uh we need to get it done ASAP so we're getting it done ASAP as uh as you could see my apprenti at Forest View it was uh mostly uh finished carpentry a little bit more of drywall too and then some days I actually got to go do
021Roofing with the roofer over there great guys great people overall and uh some of the stuff that I learned um while doing the apprenticeship is mostly uh how to do stuff and leave it as perfect as you can I'm really glad to uh be part of this apprenticeship cuz it helps me reaffirm my future and you know I'm really glad to be here thanks to everybody in apprenticeship program and the pack House program that has been helping me uh reaffirm my future [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're ready to go robot 3 2 1 Rumble today we're at robot Rumble where we have probably about 50 robots from I believe it's about 14 15 different high schools here all competing there was about 300 kids here as well and uh kids design robots for a few
022months then they come out here to battle them together I think there's four major four or five major robots so there's a Pneumatic flipper then there's a horizontal and vertical spinner which is just a piece of metal that spins really fast or there's a pusher or there's a drone fast metal or you flip people oh my favorite part is the competition day here it doesn't matter if you spend like $1,000 on a robot or 3,000 anything can go wrong like right now we just lost our batteries came off and we lost the whole round because of that but you know we get that we're going to put it better and we're going to win the next one so even though the competition is only 2 days there's probably about four or 5 months of a
023building process that goes into it then we manufacture everything ourselves so we cut all the metal all the poly car whatever else do all the electronics it's pretty labor intensive but at the end you learn a lot and really fun so when I began I didn't know how to use any power tools I didn't know how to use any of the machines there but now I know a lot more than from what I knew in the beginning I think even if you think it might not be for you give it a shot just go in for a couple meetings and see if you like it or not spatula drive it foot long into the corner My Hope Is that along with robotics from what I learn and what I can use for future applications it
024can help me get into a good school and get a good I think my favorite part is really the beginning of robots and just seeing all the kids excitement and you're just so jacked to be here and um you know seeing all their hard work come to for aition well I always wanted to be a teacher I've had fantastic teachers throughout my entire education career which kind of just persuaded me to become a teacher feel like the support throughout all the schools I've been at um has been fantastic and just led me to where I am now especially with being a culinary teacher I always loved to bake and cook and it took you know my passions and then me also wanting to work with kids and combined it into two and just been fantastic
025someone did the trate trip measure um you can add a little bit more if you would like growing up I went to prospect um coming back here has been fantastic I feel all the support from every everyone in the building students and staff overall um it's just been great it's been a great experience especially being so young 10 seconds turn it off and scrape it down yeah cuz you don't want to over mix it being a culinary teacher is so fun um the kids are so Lively it's a very unique experience obviously cuz the kids are always up and moving the kids cook every day I think it's a nice break too for them um because obviously they're not sitting down for the full 80 minutes they're up doing things their learning life skills so
026I switched my major during my college Years I switched from elementary Ed to secondary Ed um dual credit allowed me to do that I did multiple dual credit classes in high school throughout a whole range of different things they helped a ton they saved me a bunch of time and money if I didn't have those dual credit classes I would still be in college right now rather than teaching because I would have been in college an extra year but the Dual credit classes saved me and in the long run they helped me so much and helped me jump start my career oh yeah I encourage all students to take any of these dual credit classes or internships because they helped me so much and helped me fulfill my career dreams and I hope that e

030got one big open space it flows right into a big open kitchen so we've completely transformed the space if you remember there was a gas meter right next to the front door a lovely addition for any home the whole Space was all chopped up into small rooms we moved the the nasty old bathroom from the center over uh into this little core area surrounding the stairs in the original House the uh kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living space uh the trend now is to have that accessible to the rest of the living space so that you're not all uh hidden to do the dish dishes uh we also moved the washer and dryer out from the kitchen and into their own mud room the original second floor layout was bizarre we
031had a utility closet right in the center of the space that the hallway jogged around a really nasty little tiny bathroom also kind of Center a very small bedrooms strangely placed so what we did was turn this entire side of the second floor into a primary Suite so very generous bedroom uh we've kind of have a Nook which is over the um over the pantry might be a good place for seating or put your bed out here if you like getting the sunlight down a small hallway a generously sized uh walk-in closet and a custom back bath we put in a hall bathroom about the size of a bedroom and then we have two very generously sized bedrooms um off the side of the house uh with very large closets unfortunately we had to remove
032the secret room that used to live above the stairs in order to open up that space and get some more light into the second floor uh but I think we replaced it with uh more useful things the kids did an amazing job with this house it was amazing to see the transformation from fixer upper to brand new family home they did a great job with all the finish work and the remaining exterior work it has great curb appeal and they just did a wonderful job we've got a new house over in Mount Prospect we're going to get uh get going on it this June with our summer apprentices and we're looking forward to starting again here we are we finished the pack house it's been a long journey but we finally made it let me
033take you inside and show you [Music] around here we are we finished the pack house it's been a long journey but we finally made it let me take you inside and show you [Music] around you can see we've uh opened up the entire floor plan where we used to have two rooms and a fireplace we've got one big open space it flows right into a big open kitchen so we've completely transformed the space if you remember there was a gas meter right next to the front door a lovely addition for any home the whole Space was all chopped up into small rooms we moved the the nasty old bathroom from the center over uh into this little core area surrounding the stairs in the original House the uh kitchen was closed off from the rest

036did a wonderful job we've got a new house over in Mount Prospect we're going to get uh get going on it this June with our summer apprentices and we're looking forward to starting again [Music] it will do the same for all the students that's [Music] good e [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music]
037oh e e e okay are we back on okay great thank you and thank you for your patience while we uh recognized several students tonight and appreciate your patience with this um so we are at a point in the agenda for public comments and I do have two people that have signed up and if you just let me read this and then I'll call the first person the Board of Education and the district value comments from the community and our meetings as well as emails we appreciate everyone appearing before the board and treat all with courtesy and respect the Board of Education asks each person please limit all their comments to three minutes however if several people want to address the board on similar topics the board president May limit the time to 2 minutes
038per person the public comments agenda item will be the only time that the Board of Education will hear public comments during the meeting although comments may be made on almost any matter related to the operation of schools comments will not be allowed identifying individual students or staff members as this is the Board of Education business meeting the board practices not to respond to public questions or comments at this time because this is not an open-ended Forum however we do listen carefully if requested a written response will be provided please ensure that Miss Keys has your full name and address on the signup sheet to be fair and consistent to all addressing the board the same protocols and procedures must be in place for everyone the green light indicated your time has started the yellow light
039indicators 30 seconds remaining and the red light indicates 3 minutes have expired so please come forward to the microphone clearly state your name for the minutes so the first person is gerud rodic Ric okay yes you can start H you can start my name is gertude rhig and I've lived in Arlington Heights 74 years um yes I'm I'm 101 years old and uh I'm here tonight with Marcy padak and we're very interested in getting the subject of destructive culs in our educational system district 214 it is imperative that children know as they graduate from district 214 that they are safe when they go off to college without the information about destructive Cults they don't have a chinaman's chance the Cults are there waiting especially the smarter they are the easier they fall because they are
040good listeners or they wouldn't be so smart at school district uh uh we have two books that Marcy parak is donated to district 214 that will help you understand the uh the very important issue that children should learn before they ever leave School uh my son Donald was recruited in 19470 uh through the varsity tennis team and uh the coach knew nothing about this group that came in and wanted to So-Cal protect the children for their future by learning more about Jesus Christ and God and of course that wasn't their real motive however uh they were given Locker time after they were through with practice and the my son um became involved and deeper and deeper as he was each programmed each Saturday evening they need a place to to uh program their people as
041well as having fun activities which always attracts these teenagers and so first press Church in Arlington Heights was approached uh the Pastor said that sounds very good uh to get have them have a uh learning about Jesus Christ and uh he has such a a large congregation he was too busy to ever investigate to see who actually was asking for when they were caught on a Sunday a Saturday evening as the women were preparing the the narx uh for the next day's um church program uh the the the people in this group were uh destroying the naric and uh destroying all the the books Etc so the the women who came in to to uh put the FL fresh flowers on the various in the various faces uh said uh that if we can't tolerate
042this you have to leave immediately so their next place was the Arlington Heights Village uh I mean library and they were meeting there uh monthly and excuse me weekly so uh I heard about this uh and so I appeared at the board of the library and I uh and for I guess um for legal reasons they brought their attorney and uh he was um he was informed quite quickly as well as the whole board and they decided that they can only meet on once a month and so they had to find still another place so they went to Windsor School and after they were thrown out of there I lost track however my son was in for 35 years at which time he had a double heart attack and one day he could not he
043was told that if you do if you get sick you are not a believer in Jesus Christ so they actually caused him two heart attacks and he died in one day uh so the idea is that information is the only way uh to learn about cols and we we have two books here tonight that are being donated by Marcy padak and and we're here to tell you the importance of being educated about the subject and I hope it will be picked up at the high schools in district 214 so that we don't have any any of our people welcomed as they usually are as they enter College they are right there waiting for the newbies and they promise them everything Gerard thank you for your comments I we I think every board member has your
044handout and um I've read it and I really appreciate the materials what did she say okay thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you I'm so sorry for your loss the next uh thank you thank you Linda uh the next speaker is uh Martin Bower Mr Bower could you come forward please and the next uh the same protocols apply good evening uh my name is Martin Bower I'm a parent uh 528 South Ridge my son who's actually here uh goes to Rolling Meadows high school he was just uh honored alongside a whole bunch of uh talented students as board member ra as you said it takes talented teacher it takes engaged uh parents and it is the engaged parent part that I want to uh talk to you about today we know that
045engaged parents is a strong predictive for Student Success as such I was disappointed when I read that district 214 got rid of parent teacher conferences or at least the organized portion I recognize that this was requested by by the parent teacher uh by the teacher Union I recognized that the stats said that there were only 20% of parents who attended however I strongly believe that the proper answer should have been teachers let's work together to bring more parents into the conferences rather than kicking the 20% who came uh out there were problems prior to that for example a few years back I want to believe I just looked on my phone in 2020 out of eight blocks parents were allowed to only sign up for conferences for three um and board member C I can
046show you the uh the information the the point is I think there has been a number of years of implicit messaging that parent involvement is not desired and that's the wrong message message so I would encourage you to go back and think about that I recognize uh at this point parent teacher conferences don't exist anymore that said you have rightfully pointed out that there are other means to contact teachers other means for teachers to contact parents I would ask you to encourage all teachers to make a concerted effort to reach out to parents I would also ask you to please find a way to track this Outreach to track the number of uh parents that teachers actually reach out to and actually reach track that improve on that uh year aftere report out to the
047community it may just be a small portion of parents that this is very important to but it is those parents that make a difference in the community and that make a difference in the Su success of the lives of their students thank you thank you thank you for your comments okay the Board of Education will move on with the rest of the uh agenda and up next is the superintendent report Dr Ro uh thank you um you know as I was approaching the meeting this evening I realized this you know being June uh the culmination of uh my first year as superintendent 214 and I um so it kind of caused me to reflect upon the year uh June is a very busy month wrapping up the school year um you know beginning summer construction
048we've got a lot going on across the district and but I still spend a little bit of time kind of reflecting on on what we uh what we made it through this year and I'm quite proud of everything that we've accomplished uh to name a few things the Strategic plan is motion the first survey response rate is extremely high I met with our partners today they were raving about uh the level of Engagement um the through that contract negotiations process we linked in the school day uh now we'll be aligned to state law next next year and negotiated a strong 5-year contract with our teachers uh we shared earlier the capital Improvement assessment uh with the needs for the district that'll give us some direction in terms of that work over the next decade and
049as we celebrate tonight won a couple of state championships um along the way and had a Blue Ribbon School recognized in Washington DC so those only a few of the things but um they stand out as some of our Fondest Memories of the Year all in all we had a really great school year and I'm encouraged about our future I believe it is very very bright um most importantly what stood out as I've said a few times is the people the people in district 214 are wonderful incredibly engaged Educators focused on our kids uh that may be the most encouraging thing at least for me as a newcomer uh to the district that is just uh we're focusing on the right things and our students are uh are a priority which I'm very proud of
050that's all I have this evening thank you Dr Ro um next on the agenda is board member updates Mr dling would you like to start sure um this week I attended uh a number of practice sessions uh for the musical that's going to be run this uh summer it's going to be over at Wheeling Park District uh Heritage Park pavilion uh 620 through 622 at 8:00 at night I attended the call practice and and the dance practice was very good this is the first year in summer camp we had a jamp uh a jazz improvisation Camp uh was run by Vince jaldi from uh BG and Ron foto uh from El cve professional teachers were there it was truly amazing and what they were doing that was this week as well uh it was um
051was a good week thank you how was graduation pardon how was graduation where graduation was fine where were you I was at out Grove said my words did my thing handed out the diplomas okay Mr I was excited it was it was very exciting it's good and the weather was great and the planes at outg Grove were not coming into how hair which was even better call favor yeah the mayor will say that he he had it arranged don't tell them I said that Miss Palmer um I guess my only update is on the Rolling Meadows High School graduation you know it was a beautiful night for graduation I really appreciate uh that the year prior I don't know if you all recall was extraordinarily cold um and so this was it was a lovely
052evening um I really think uh ring Meadows did a great job the ceremony was terrific um the kids when you there's it's truly an honor to be at graduation with the kids and to just look at the excitement in their faces and the joy they had have and their excitement for their future as it's you know approaching them and hitting them right then and there so um I really enjoyed it so that's that's about it um thank you Mr Hinman uh had had fun at the uh pack open house and wonderful that we've got that sold already uh CMA appreciation day was fun at Wheeling um Rolling Meadows high school has a Olympic hopeful that's going to the um Olympic trials in Indianapolis uh next week uh for the 10200 backstroke that is ver ionic
053um there's also two Prospect High School alumni that are headed to track and field Olympic trials uh next week um and they are also hope Hing to go to Tokyo for the Olympics under of my report okay um thank you Miss Rog yes um first of all I'd like to do a committee update uh we had the parent teacher discipline advisory and the behavioral intervention council meeting it was held May 1st that is it's a combination of two committees that the district has and it is a state requirement that we meet at least once a year so um just a quick update on that at the meeting we reviewed the policy and procedures uh any changes that were regarding student Behavior we also reviewed processes and procedures for Behavioral interventions um I know some of
054that was covered at the last meeting that I was absent for but I wanted to mention that the meeting was held um and I'd like to definitely send out a thank you to all our apsses our our dhws otherwise known as our Deans and the parents who participated in that it it is additional time it's a meeting in the evening uh we all have busy schedules but the dedication commitment that they put forth and the preparation I really appreciate and I thought we had an excellent discussion um a lot of great activities and contributions from members in this District to help our students on the student services level and you know devel veloping the community so that these students feel safe and that then develops into commitment for them in in their academics so thank
055you for that um regarding graduation I attended Buffalo Grove High School as a parent so thank you fellow board members for taking the lead on the other schools um it was a great night I enjoyed it very much uh definite celebration to see as board member Palmer said you know these students are looking at their future and all the opportunities so uh we wish them much luck um the only other thing I want to send uh thank you out to Wheeling High School because they are housing some Buffalo Grove Athletics this year so thank you for that housing staff and and students and hope everyone has a good summer thank you thank you Mr fito that was a great Subway um so I'm going to start with the the fun stuff and then I'll get
056to the boring stuff um I gave a shout out to high school years ago because I got to be a cool wild cat at graduation ceremony and it was an awesome awesome feeling um I will say though that other schools do have two people handing out those diplomas and it Mr Hubbert or Dr Hubbert it really hurt my golf swing having to shake 400 kids hands that night so next year I'm not at Wheeling okay um I attended the uh Ed rad meeting on uh last Friday uh just a couple things more for for the audience than uh for probably the people sitting here uh fentanyl education is going to be part of the second quarter 2020 2425 school year um driver's ed although you probably have your driver's license properly okay uh it will
057include Highway construction that's pretty important um also climate change inclusion will be 26 27 um student discipline guidance uh will be required by the isbe to provide guidance to us on Senate Bill 100 implementation July 1st 2025 I thought that was important too uh I attended nsseo update um I'm now part of that group again um ironically enough they selected hya as the Strategic plan consultant at the meeting I was at they'll be starting in August and September they recognized Julie julick she's a retiring Finance director for her 17 years in nsseo I've known Julie for 13 of the last 17 uh she is amazing person um is great with doing a lot with very little so she'll be uh she'll be a little bit of a loss and there'll be big shoes to fill
058in NS SEO uh last The Continuous Improvement uh end of the year report was given uh district 214 and 211 has 37% of students enrolled in Step which is the student transition program which is interesting because the national average is 24% so kudos to 211 and 214 they did an officer reor thank God I wasn't selected um they just chose the The District 57 and representative is the new vice president replacing Anna Clin quitz that's all I have okay thank you uh just a couple things uh I don't know if uh the public knows this but we do have uh graduations at the special special High School I was here for all three graduations of the special high school on May 21st along with uh Dr row and Dr Ro join me at uh hery
059high school for um the graduation uh ceremonies uh kudos to our industry partner every year we uh recognize our industry partners and we did so at a breakfast again this year really appreciate all the industry partners that we have and uh appreciation dinner I attended here at Forest View for the community ed uh people that really do a great job uh with a Community Education in a lot of fields um just a couple other things I I don't normally um comment on my quar meetings with the Illinois Schoolboard Association as director but there were a couple of things that was brought up um one thing ihsa is looking at practice times and I'm not sure why but they they said that football has quite a bit more practice time than any other so we might
060see some ruling about practice times for other sports and the other thing is we did renew the contract for the executive director and lastly I've been chosen as a delegate for the uh Consortium of State School associations at their annual conference in March so I will will be representing Illinois at their delegate assembly and that's it so now we come to roll call items 9.1 uh Clos session audio recordings can I have um a motion and a second please so moved second any discussion I'm going to abstain for voting because I was not on the school board during the 2022 uh school year thank you call the r Palmer I Hinman I dling yes furo abstain Ral I quiter I motion carries 51 uh 9.1.2 approval of changes to board policy uh we uh it
061was discussion last time and now we're moving forward on changing policy can I have a motion in a second please so moved second discussion call fito yes Palmer I dling yes Hinman I Ral I Ander hi motion carries 60 921 approval of tenant budget can I have a motion and a second please so moved second it's been a motion a second Mr key thank you very much Madame President I do have a brief presentation for you this evening happy to field questions as we go through or do it at the end um whatever the board chooses um we are here today to review the tenative budget for fiscal year 25 that's the 2425 fiscal year um the presentation will include uh a couple different sections here um we're going to go over the legal requirements
062uh which is typical we'll look at the budget cycle then we'll um get a firmer understanding of how we come up with this budget some of the things we contemplate and uh then we'll talk a little bit about uh some summative information so the legal requirements to adopt the budget um just to to kind of go over that uh we do have to place it on display for 30 days uh prior to our public hearing our public hearing as a reminder is on the evening of uh the board meeting where we approve the final budget that'll be in our August board meeting um we will publish the notice in a local newspaper we have that queued up uh the again the public hearing will happen in August and then we are to submit uh or
063I'm sorry the board must adopt the budget um by September 30th of each year so looking at the budget process in the calendar here um as we know the budget cycle never ends here we are in uh a couple slides up there please um here we are in that June to August time frame we're in heavy uh budget development season again we we met with the board in the spring to talk about the assumptions the general assumptions for the budget we continued monitoring the budget and as we approach the June 30th end of the fiscal year we're taking into consideration kind of the uh behavior of this year's budget and applying that into next year's um assumptions um again we're going to discuss that this evening and move towards uh the final budget in August
064so we're look get some uh assumptions and and we always like to say unknowns because we don't know everything uh especially during the tentative budget time frame um as we get closer to the final budget we really narrow our Focus um because we have more accurate data points uh so from a revenue standpoint uh as we know the uh tax levy accounts for the majority of our Revenue here in the school district about 80% of our revenue and uh that is tied to the Consumer Price Index and with CPI being over 5% uh the property tax extension limitation law uh does limit us to the 5% so we um are actively monitoring our spring collections we look to see what uh taxes are collected uh for the 2024 calendar cycle through the end of June
065and then we do the math and and we apply that into the our final budget as our our fall collections for this coming year um we're also of course looking at historical data and uh our friends at Cook County with their their new software adoption a couple years ago that delayed our payments uh it seems like there's some stability there and tax bills were were out a little more on time this year um one of the the next large uh chunks of of local funding that we received is the uh cppt which is the consumer uh corporate personal property replacement tax pardon me uh it's a mouthful for sure and uh that really spiked on the tail end of the pandemic as as uh the economy revved back up and now we're seeing uh two
066years of of significant reductions as it levels off into kind of a more uh normal uh uh Cadence if you will and then um we always like to mention that we do have uh you know 20 active tiffs here in the district um and so for 11 billion dollar of assessed value in our in our uh taxing uh Geographic geographical District about 750 million of that is tied up in tiffs um certainly we like good tis because uh it promotes development and uh once that value is unfrozen we see significant increase um and you know the good and the bad of having so many tips is there's there generally speaking there's some coming on there's some rolling off and and uh we budget accordingly for that and we look at our expense side of uh
067things uh we are anticipating a stable enrollment however we do track student um students within different uh need and demographic groups to make sure we're uh uh applying our resources to those student needs in in a couple areas this year that the Administration has has focused on for next year uh we're looking at additional resources going towards uh campus safety our English language Learners um we've got some Family Outreach uh investment as well as uh making sure that we're meeting our special education needs um in addition under the special education we are seeing an increase in outpace student tuition costs I know the state increased their rate recently and um uh we are um monitoring that uh I was at an NSS nsseo meeting this afternoon and uh we were having discussion about some of
068their Capital needs and so not included in this budget but will get picked up in the final budget uh there's going to be additional investment uh in in the form of a uh one-time member contribution this year and next year to to uh fund the capital work at UH Kirk school um the much needed Capital work there and then of course we have our own Capital needs here in this District that we're continuing to work as an Administration to identify and triage those needs um within our fiscal abilities so we do a quick overview uh of our revenues and expenditures again revenues CPI uh uh capped our tax levy at 5% um the cppt is an estimate at this point we do anticipate having um the final number in August probably not in time for
069our final budget um our investment earnings are expected to increase and uh as we dig into the budget we're we're uh aligning those more with historical Trends uh this year our registration fees of course are returning this year and um our evidence-based funding remains flat at about $10 million uh and of course the pandemic relief money the Esser funding um is due to expire September 30th this year so we're working with uh the teaching and learning group to um account for all of that on our June 30th expenditure report and ensure that we are uh fully getting reimbursed by the end of the that cycle so we have a nice graphic here showing um the large portion of our uh Revenue that comes from local sources again 80% is coming from property taxes 92% of
070our total funding comes from that uh from local sources um and in this current year budget we have about 3% Federal that'll continue to decrease as as the pandemic funding um dissipates hey Tim can ask a question sir um the Bears situation with them appealing their property taxes and they're probably one of the biggest pieces of that 92% um do we conservatively estimate what we think they're going to pay us or are we just going with what they are supposed to pay us as of right now there uh our current estimates are in well I mean the long answer is yet or the short answer is yes there's a much longer answer that talks about how how we are made whole when there are appeals um Etc and um even though it is a large
071piece of property we have 11 billion in assess value and so you know it it's not a huge impact in today's dollars um but certainly those conversations are important um as we move down the road okay thank you so looking at Major Revenue sources um budget to budget and when uh just as a heads up when we move into our final budget we'll have another column in here that shows our actuals from this fiscal year we'll have our books closed for 630 and that'll be a little bit more accurate uh look at that so any anytime you see large deviations over in that Delta column there's usually a pretty good story for that uh in some cases it it has to do more with a recognition of how the budget's Performing this year and other
072cases like our in uh our interest earnings that's more a matter of looking at our historical interest and and uh kind of Tru up our budget which hasn't uh been done a couple of years um so we do uh again in local funds we're we're we're looking to increase about 7% um and our state aid uh is going to go up the biggest uh contributor there is our transportation Aid and it's tied directly to our expenditures and the Transportation uh fund and again as you can see uh would would be a rather uh concerning number at the 34% decrease in federal aid if we didn't have the context of the Esser funds um sunsetting so moving into expenditures um the salary increases according to the uh collective bargaining Agreements are are baked into our budget
073along with the benefit renewals um our school-based budgets um have are aligned with student needs and based on feedback that we get from our building administrators who manage those um the buildings and grounds that's our our fund 20 um that continues to increase uh along uh the lines of what you know the essentially the economy is doing to the cost of goods and services to maintain our buildings and then our capital projects budget um that does account for our summer 24 and um summer 2025 Grove and then the hery student services those are all included in the budget and then later this evening we're going to be talking about fund transfer to fund those and then food service is accounted for and aligned with the current participation Trends uh we did do a survey a
074student survey this year Miss Peri did and uh we are working on trying to identify wants needs Etc in that program to connect to our buildings and make sure that we're delivering to the menu what what students are looking for um the technology department provided um uh their budget based on the current update and replacement cycle in the buildings and then in Transportation uh we will see kind of a flat uh budget to budget number there uh we do have some what we I guess uh would call pandemic necessitated shuttles um that are phasing out and sunsetting and uh will result in some efficiencies and some savings which will offset the uh the annual increase of the bus contract Mr key real quick on the technology I know the technology was having an evaluation of
075their um equipment and everything has that been completed and is that what is accounted for here in the updates and Replacements we had approved a while back so the technology audit is in progress and they track the Staffing portion of it which we had discussed with the board and uh the remains of that audit continues and uh so for now their current known needs are in next year's budget if there's additional above and beyond it would have to be in the future okay thank you Mr key I have a question when you look at when I look at when I looked at the budget I didn't see and maybe you're going to get to it um proposed sale or the possibility of selling are the facility that we were in um while this while Renovations
076that's a discussion for later in the summer we plan to bring that to you uh in the coming months what what you'd like to do with that property we we'll have a recommendation for you in August okay thank you very much so next we have a fancy looking pie chart just shows our expenditures as we know um just like on the revenue side the majority of our Revenue comes from property taxes the majority of our investment is in people in salour and benefits and that continues to be the case and then you see the other categories um there the purchase Services um did decrease budget to budget again um a big portion of that was in the transportation area so next we look at expenses by object again this is budget to budget and uh
077I will say that uh this story will be better told when we do the final budget we have our actuals un audited figures for the the fiscal year 24 so we can see that vers is the 24 budget and then it'll align better I think with the fiscal 25 budget um for instance here uh if you look at the increase in t uh dues fees and tuition normally we call it dues and fees we threw tuition in there because it really is a big portion of it it's a significant increase but what that accounts for um those are actual costs that are occurring that um for a lot of outplaced um special ed tuition um that was not budgeted accordingly in the prior year and so when we show the the actuals you'll see it
078will not be a 20% increase in actual the budget there will be an alignment and we've seen about a 10% increase over the last seven years in that category for tuition um and so we'll continue tracking that we're working with uh student services and teaching and learning to um monitor that month uh month to month into the new year um all other increases um are in line with with are known at this point and and again when we get towards final budget we'll we'll see that uh tighten up a little bit and Mr KY can you remind me where is transportation in that is that purchase services or that transportation is under purchase Services yes okay I was just surprised when I saw that it looked like it decreased a little bit correct that's part
079of it the other big part of purchase Services would be um if you think about the last fiscal year the current fiscal Year's budget for capital projects um from last year we had winter projects we had summer projects um we're going down about $7 million fiscal year to fiscal year just for the reduced scope and a and a big portion of that you architect fees um are attached to that value of that scope as well um and then finally we have a a budget summary that just shows our Revenue to our expenditures as we assume right now uh today for our Tanda budget uh we'll continue working uh in the fiscal services on this um we are showing a 2.4 Mill ion dollar Surplus on the operating funds and then when we uh bring in
080uh primarily our capital projects um and and the other non-operating funds which uh which essentially use fund balance they run a deficit all told um it's it's essentially a balanced budget with about $100,000 uh deficit at this point in time now what does that do for fund balance we'll provide down the next slide and uh as we know the board operates we operate on a on the board's white paper of 50 to 55% for our operating funds and uh uh this current Tanda budget as it's slated right now has us maintaining right in the middle of that at the 53% Mark um if you add our non-operating funds it brings it down to 52% and I will highlight the capital projects fund right there shows a negative fund balance at the end of this year
081um with nothing happening now um Miss Palmer you asked the question about a sale of a property an additional thing in a couple agenda items is a transfer of funds that hasn't happened yet the board hasn't taken action so it's not reflected here and it's a $14 million transfer that would certainly offset and make sure we don't go negative there so again it's just a reminder that the Tander budget is is what we have right now at this moment in time I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have board members you said a bill go ahead you know I'm always amazed at one ch you had that showed the major Revenue sources 40 years ago I wasn't on the board then um but uh at that at that time probably 40% plus
082maybe 45% came from the state for funding so they transferred that all over to local property tax so now we're at 92% property tax corporate tax and interest income yet the state sends out on a regular BAS basis the legislature unfunded mandates that's the wrong terminology we fund them they pass the laws we have to fund them it's really it's really um it's just crazy and and the things that unfunded mandates I can't imagine how many there are year uh that we have to fund I I wouldn't even know but I'd like to know I think there's 165 mandates there's a l I think there's like 16 all right 155 now that and that's one year and it just goes on and on and on and it's everything it's that's millions and millions of dollars
083it's goofy it's crazy and there's that that interesting Illinois constitution that says the state should fund public education at 51% yeah yeah well that's uh you know that that went down the tubes 40 years ago when they transfer it all over to property tax I this is not against you obviously Mr K it it's just it aggravates it just aggravates uh me every time we go through this process to see how much locally we're funding and the unfunded mandates which we fund come out of legislature and and that's how they get their political uh uh Power and that they get their political background going so that they look good we're paying forward I agree wholeheartedly and Mr fito gave an ed R update earlier it's always the first first question we asked when we're at
084those meetings um and I was in lend and D page before is okay how much is that going to cost and and who's going to pay it and so as business managers we often get called to you know answer that question and start Computing these things and and some of them um it's just very interesting um when when they when they enact legislation I don't know that they really know how to enact it and and how they're going to execute it much less fund it and so I I wholeheartedly agree and I think that's you know it's certainly good that we have the strong local tax base um to to fund that but you know even with Transportation you know we talk about transportation is directly tied to the expanses but that's all pro-rated you
085know we're getting single digit percentage of what we should statutorily be getting in that Grant I'll take a harder Road on on what you said about when they approve these things they don't care because they're not paying for it we are that was the debate and Springfield about um funding student teachers there there was no right the the ticket to everything in terms of a mandate is will it be sent for Appropriations and and like most things that was not either yeah there was no Appropriations for it so um anything else board members what what do you hear in the pipeline for tiffs did you have something no okay good well you hear in the pipeline for tiffs regarding upcoming I thought I read in the paper that um Mount Prospect was looking at a
086tiff from the United Property that's the southern part of Mount Prospect where the um Fire Protection District was that's okay I haven't heard anything I have not gotten anything from Mount Prospect on that no okay I heard that through here save NE from an official Source okay I guess they're talking about it that's crazy okay we continue to monitor we you know we attend the joint review meetings um in the fall and board members do as well so we'll continue to Monitor and of course account for that in the budget okay so we'll get another presentation in August Mr kayy yes okay great yes ma'am okay uh there's been a motion and a second to approve the tenent budget um please call roll Haman I I dling yes AO yes Ral I and czer I
087motion carries 60 9.2.2 approval of uh physical education t-shirt bed Motion in a second please so moved second discussion yeah I just want to thank uh I want to thank Scott for doing this because I know listening to some to the gym teachers it's very important to be able to identify your students and having a specific gym shirt to be warn by every student certainly takes away a lot of issues for PE teachers who might have 30 something kids in a class and if they're all wearing hoodies and everything else it's hard to identify who who are the 30 kids in my class so this is uh much needed and I think you guys did a great job with it I would agree with that um and I think for safety purposes also thank you
088colol Palmer I dling yes fito yes Hinman i r i weitzer i motion carries 60 thank you 923 approval of waste and recycling bid Motion in a second please so moved second it's been a motion in it second any update Mr key yes certainly this was a discussion item at the last board meeting and at the time the bid was out on the street um Mr Hoster in our department worked on this uh and was in touch with uh Jason case was the csbo at at 57 and uh it turns out we're going to see about 12% uh savings by going out to bid now you recall we had to reject the bids and go back out because the uh vendors put a ton of conditions on on their proposals which is something we've seen
089and I've heard from other peers uh so we're we're glad to hear that that uh uh waste management came back with such a favorable um offering and this is a five-year contract with the option to renew for five additional years so could be a 10-year contract uh and it is tied to CPI uh so it is a very favorable contract for the board in the district Mr key can you um refresh my memory so we put this out to bid and then we had now I see only one vendor so did only one vendor come back with a more favorable bid or because usually we see M yes waste management and Groot both bid the first time with pages of conditions and then uh we did put it back out we had a third party
090that was interested as well they did not submit a bid uh and then um groot's bid the second time around did not meet our specifications because they came back with conditions again oh they did okay thank you anything else call the roll please dling yes Palmer hi fito yes Hinman hi Ral I and crer I motion carry 60 924 approval of trans of funds from operations and maintenance fund to capital projects fund Motion in a second please so moved second motion of second Mr key certainly so this is uh a little bit of a different strategy in the past we've we've uh budgeted for about $8 million the year of transfer and uh as we look forward to our additional Capital needs and uh what our fund balances as you saw from the slide on
091that presentation um what we're going to start doing is is bringing before the board uh before the end of each fiscal year uh a request to transfer enough funds to fund the projects that have been approved by the board up to this point so as you recall in the spring the board approved summer 2025 construction with conceptual estimates so we're running off those estimates um so the board is uh obligated to do those projects at this point um this is just a function of moving funds from our uh operation and maintenance fund into the fund 60 capital projects fund to fund that so um I think it was Miss Palmer talked about uh and you said wait till we approve this so how will that change the tentative that we just approved it's just money
092from one column to another it's the same money just moving um so as far as fund balance is concerned it showed fund 60 going to negative 238,000 um once this is applied if we were to give you an update in five minutes it would show 13 million 600 some thousand okay thank you discussion call the r Ral I Palmer I dusing yes fito yes Hinman I quer I motion carry 60 925 approval of count pay Motion in a second please so moved second there's been a motion and second any discussion H dling yes Palmer hi fito yes Hinman hi r i and griter I motion carry 60 926 financial statements Motion in a second please so moved second it's been a motion and a second discussion please call a Rollo yes Palmer I dling yes
093Hinman i r i quiter i motion 60 thank you we're at 931 can I have a motion to approve the Food Service salary increase so moved second Miss craft don't have anything to anything to say no okay M Dr Ro anything well the only thing I would add is is that uh you know it's a sizable increase and it's a sizable increase with specific intent because I believe last year there was no increase to our food service team um and we you know our food service team obviously you know provides quite a bit and works very hard for our students every day and given that last year we felt there was a a bit of a market adjustment um necessary so this move will will bring our um starting salary up where um in the
094in the ballpark of where the board is comfortable compared to our peers and then our uh our average rate of pay with our current employees to a stronger position so that it's um gives us an easier easier o easier way of U retaining our employees that are obviously valuable to the day in day out operations of the cafeteria thank you I'm happy to go ahead happy to see the increase I I know that we have struggled over the past couple years maintaining and having um food staff come so where are we at or do we already have staff um in positions for next year or are we still in the process of hiring those or could you speak of that please yeah uh both so we do have positions open for next year really in
095all categories of our organization we do tend to have more in food services and so hopefully this will be quite an incentive to help attract and retain employees into the fall thank you very much for looking into okay we did have an addition oh call oh Frank go ahead yeah I just want to say the real story behind this increase is that we have valuable assets at all our schools and these are people that go unnoticed but they serve a strong purpose to all the young adults in our cafeterias so it is important that we recognize and show that we value these people and this increase does exactly that they've been sure changed unfortunately in the past but we are rectifying that and by doing so hopefully we will get people that will serve in
096these roles that are very important to our schools thank you anyone else Colorado fito yes Hamman hi dling yes Palmer I Ral I and griter I motion carry 60 okay we did add 932 a discussion item Miss craft yep Human Resources is uh is working hard to transition uh our some of our services from a company called Frontline which has been called Apple track which has been called asop it's been around forever into uh Red Rover this uh service will cover uh we'll start with our substitute management uh at the beginning of the school year and will'll then move into our time and attendance which is for our hourly employees and also for things like game supervision um overtime those sorts of things and then ultimately the third module will be recruiting and hiring which
097will we will do last um so this is something we've had our eye on for a long time uh and we've had uh we've been with fr line a long time had a lot of patience with Frontline and it's it's time to move on to a system that's much more user friendly and intuitive so we're really excited to begin this process this summer so what are the some what are the bells and whistles that Red Rover has that because I'm familiar with front line because I used it so tell me about that so A couple examples I'll give you so on the sub management side for example for teachers this is all app-based and so when a teacher enters an absence with a push of one button that teacher's top five substitutes can get a
098push notification on their phone saying K Craft's going to be out tomorrow do you want the job and so just from an efficiency standpoint the AI um the artificial intelligence used in Red Rover uh is is helpful both on the management side and the recruitment side so for example when uh a candidate enters our system and uploads uh their resume uh Red Rover takes all the information from the resume and populates it into the system uh using AI so if someone's interested in a job they don't necessarily have to go in and retype everything into any sort of application um for for on my side I can submit uh job descriptions that we've written as a district into the AI in this program uh and uh indicate a new job that we want to have
099and it'll spit out uh a job description based on how we've written them in the past so um from all user ends uh it just seems to be a much better system we have sort of sat back a little bit and watched some of our neighboring districts go to Red Rover before we did because we have someone on our staff who is a Frontline expert um and so we let them kind of work out some of the wrinkles and and just time and time again I've heard uh how much it's helped uh in so many aspects of streamlining the organization so uh we're really excited to make the move so this is a software you you'll be purchasing um who is the parent company or where are they based out of uh they are oh
100where are they based out I can't remember where they're based out of uh Andrea the people who opened Red Rover the two men who opened Red Rover came from Frontline and were frustrated with um Frontline continued to get bought over and over and over again and became less uh user friendly so I can't remember where they're out of but they've been incredibly responsive um it is a tech contract and it does fall our contract falls beneath the building bidding threshold which is why there isn't a bid before you to approve if that's part of the question thank you yes can can I ask what's the cost of uh Red Rover compared to Frontline is it comparable yeah Red Rover for all three modules will fall just under that $35,000 Mark uh in front line we
101were closer to 50 so thank you yeah it is a savings we have a two TW month um noticed front line to move away from them so we have to string both of them along for a little bit until we're ready to to completely move on but yeah um I'm I'm a little concerned because uh two years ago all our hourly were on paper and the CMA were the first to go electronic and then last year the ASP went electronic um having gone through that watching people struggle with going electronic um I'm I'm concerned about going to a new system so you want to talk about that yeah and that's why we're phasing that's why we're phasing it in Alva so we're starting with the sub management which has been around the longest we'll move
102to the time in attendance but when I was telling Frank about having this two months notice with Frontline we're really going to wait until we're ready with some of this and so we'll start with a sub management our goal is to move to that as we get into the school year um but we'll wait and make sure we have a very methodic training plan and when you see or when I saw Red Rover and I saw how userfriendly and how intuitive it was compared to what we've been using I felt a whole lot better about that experience so I can assure you that making sure that we do that this at a pace that our staff is ready for is at the Forefront of of our planning um and uh we don't expect that to
103be to be an issue I'll just say green sheets are next and everybody's excited about them those going away that Red Rover does tackle that problem for us what I heard you still were doing paper time sheets I anyway okay any any any other discussion okay hope it works um I'll say that that was a discussion item will it will okay so we're moving on to teaching and learning 941 approval of a resolution authorizing the sale of real estate the Practical Arts construction house at 2804 Fremont and Rolling Meadows Motion in a second please so moved second all right I just wanted to say how excited I am this time of year when we sell the house I wanted to specifically recognize Chuck Jurassic who's the uh who really stepped in in the middle of
104the year when our other teacher left to take the lead of the project along with Dave weers act this was a 2-year project and we have a video of before and after for the board to see in in the community awesome awesome here we are we finished the pack house it's been a long journey but we finally made it let me take you inside and show you [Music] around you can see we've uh opened up the entire floor plan where we used to have two rooms and a fireplace we've got one big open space it flows right into a big open kitchen so we've completely transformed the space if you remember there was a gas meter right next to the front door a lovely addition for any home the whole Space was all chopped up
105into small rooms we moved the the nasty old bathroom from the center over uh into this little core area surrounding the stairs in the original House the uh kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living space uh the trend now is to have that accessible to the rest of the living space so that you're not all uh hidden to do the dishes uh we also moved the washer and dryer out from the kitchen and into their own mud room the original second floor out was bizarre we had a utility closet right in the center of the space that the hallway jogged around a really nasty little tiny bathroom also kind of Center a very small bedrooms strangely placed so what we did was turn this entire side of the second floor into a
106primary Suite so very generous bedroom uh we've kind of have a Nook which is over the um over the Pantry might be a good place for seating or put your bed out here if you like getting the sunlight down a small hallway a generously sized uh walk-in closet and a custom bath we put in a hall bathroom about the size of a bedroom and then we have two very generously sized bedrooms um off the side of the house uh with very large closets unfortunately we had to remove the secret room that used to live above the stairs in order to open up that space and get some more light into the second floor uh but I think we replaced it with uh more useful things the kids did an amazing job with this house it
107was amazing to see the transformation from fixer upper to brand new family home they did a great job with all the finish work and the remaining exterior work it has great curb appeal and they just did a wonderful job we've got a new house over in Mount Prospect we're going to get uh get going on it this June with our summer apprentices and we're looking forward to starting again yeah did a great job wow they they did a great job so the district received an offer that was above the asking price uh for the purchase and so we recommend the board approve the resolution of the board uh the resolution of the Board of Education uh and adopt and approve the sale of the property thank you board discussion yes when I went over and
108visited I I met with Chuck I believe he was a student in 214 and worked on the pack yes uh house when he was uh when he was in school it's it's really a beautiful place the the master uh uh bathroom is is truly amazing they did a they did a great job and he's he is so um energetic and excited to be there uh even though he came in in the middle of the year but he's really a really a good guy he he's been with us for two years but the other Lead Teacher left mid year and so he's had a really take charge in the middle of the Year sort of with one less person and they did a great job finishing the project I found it interesting that he had been
109involved with the pack house when he was in school here I said why are you doing this been in construction he said I want to give back I said all right po members it's great that the uh overprices going to the [Laughter] boarders um I was I visited the pack house and I was there when a couple of the neighbors came by and um they said oh we're so excited we've been watching this and um they were really truly impressed yes and I said you know we've been doing this for a number of years in different communities and so they were very very grateful Dr Ro do you have anything to add uh nothing really I had the pleasure of watching our students add you know LA and I were there when they were adding

11120% and they're titled one school you have to request this waiver um we have two schools we requesting the waiver for elro and rolling medals High School um elro we actually believe will probably be above the 40% Mark but just sometimes that number fluctuates so out of precaution we're just asking for approval of the waiver uh for Elk grve as well Wheeling High School is above the % Target that's required so it does not require a waiver okay board members col Palmer I dling yes fito yes Hinman i w i and sir I motion carry 951 approval of fre approval of free information report a motion in a second please some move second second any discussion W call please Ral I furo yes dusing yes Hinman I Palmer I kzer I motion carry 60 thank

113on-site interpretation as well as testing and training uh for staff uh and so we're excited to move to this agreement once your approval and then develop a training and and roll out plan uh for these Services um as a starting point as we continue to improve really work closely with teaching and learning on this and the leadership of Dr got and so Happ to take any questions discussion now this service is this based on our usage or is there a flat rate how does uh it's a permanent rate uh currently we pay I believe 220 to 260 a minute and that will adjust down to 64 cents okay uh so we spent about uh $48,000 so far uh this year okay just on the language line service okay and that is through the phone services
