e hello everyone my name is Jeff bot and I'm here to introduce you to our exciting athletic project that we have coming up the summer we'll be working on phase one and as you can see the fields behind me phase one is going to go all the way from Arlington Heights Road all the way up to our Basin that we have over here the B will be included pH two which you will see in later videos but in Phase One what we are going to get is we are going to get a brand new uh Varsity Softball field that is going to go up in the corner right here in between all of it we will have a ticket booth and a concession stand that will also double at stores for ourselves and then we
will have an auxiliary turf field that could be used by all of our Sports and some of our fine arts groups and then behind the turf field we are going to have our brand new tennis courts the off here next week um we'll be excited to show it to all of you uh brand new in the district we are doing a Time Lapse video so we'll have a video that's going to get uh cut together at the end of the project and turn this monthong project into a couple minute video um and we will post that on the website as soon as we are done with this video so we'll be excited to show you the progress and I'll share this this project with you manufacturing lab here at BG has been amazing addition to
help students just understand more about engineering and Manufacturing and it's been inspiring them to T one to so I'm interested in going into chemical engineering I actually got into two universities with it uh which are MIT and Notre Dame actually had a full ride from Notre Dame if it wasn't for this lab I really wouldn't have gotten to experience any of the Hands-On things that I did get to experience I want to have realize that oh it's not the the that I like it's the actual making of things and it also would have made me such a competitive candidate for so many competitive colleges so I came here in middle school for the NG program and well I didn't get to be in this room I always walked past it and I was like wow
that's a lot of cool stuff and eventually when I came to BG I realized that oh they offer manufacturing classes and engineering classes we can actually get in here and use all this and I wanted to to be a mechanical engineer for a while and just being able to get in here and better understand all the fabrication and the Hands-On stuff that goes into engineering and Manufacturing has really helped broaden my knowledge of the entire field yeah that'll work I've had a couple other students uh reach out to me after they've gone to school and they told me that because of their experiences in this lab and the Machinery that they have to work with and the Hands-On experiences that they've gotten they've been just a step ahead of a lot of the other students
in their classes they've had a leg up on the competition and they've understood more and they've just had better experiences because of what they've been able to do here in the lab here we are we finished the pack house it's been a long journey but we finally made it let me take you inside and show you around you can see we've uh opened up the entire floor plan where we used to have two rooms and a fireplace we've got one big open space it flows right into a big open kitchen so we've completely transformed the space if you remember there was a gas meter right next to the front door a lovely addition for any home the whole Space was all chopped up into small rooms we moved the the nasty old bathroom from the
center over uh into this little core area surrounding the stairs in the original House the uh kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living space uh the trend now is to have that accessible to the rest of the living space so that you're not all uh hidden to do the dishes uh we also moved the washer and dryer out from the kitchen and into their own mud room the original second floor layout was bizarre we had a utility closet right in the center of the space that the hallway jogged around a really nasty little tiny bathroom also kind of Center a very small bedrooms strangely placed so what we did was turn this entire side of the second floor FL into a primary Suite so very generous bedroom uh we've kind of have
a Nook which is over the um over the pantry might be a good place for seating or put your bed out here if you like getting the sunlight down a small hallway a generously sized uh walk-in closet and a custom bath we put in in a hall bathroom about the size of a bedroom and then we have two very generously sized bedrooms um off the side of the house uh with very large closets unfortunately we had to remove the secret room that used to live above the stairs in order to open up that space and get some more light into the second floor uh but I think we replaced it with uh more useful things the kids did an amazing job with this house it was amazing to see the transformation from fixer upper to
brand new family home they did a great job with all the finish work and the remaining exterior work it has great curb appeal and they just did a wonderful job we've got a new house over in Mount Prospect we're going to get uh get going on it this June with our summer apprentices and we're looking forward to starting again [Music] good morning everybody I'm gonna pause this video for a second because we have a special announcement he is thank you for your service to district 214 congratulations gosh I'm like oh what's what did something really cool how did my God thank you for your service to district 214 perfect [Applause] [Music] thank celebrate your your retirement and offer a uh thank you a gift from us than your [Music] [Applause] thank I'm speechless [Applause] good

this summer and we're so excited with the progress So currently the crews are really working on drywall mudding painting um finishes for floors and walls and windows and so you will see the progress is really amazing so the next steps that we're really looking at accomplishing in the next few weeks are completing all of the the finishing work whether that's the wiring in um the electrical outlets TVs technology installing Windows and glass removing the concrete from the career and Counselor Center and then repouring it with the big G inlight our hope is to have construction be done by the end of July so that then technology and furniture delivery can begin in order to be ready in early August for staff and [Music] students this year is our 35th anniversary of starting our Japanese exchange
program I personally as a student went on year 10 uh as a student of elgrove high school and I liked it enough to come back and run the show each year we usually welcome about 10 students from Japan and two chaperon and in June I usually take about somewhere between 8 to 12 students to Japan to visit their school after we get out of school [Music] we also do other fun activities as a group all of us went to Main Event the arcade they did some bowling they played the video games after that we went to go see the windy city bowls and that was a wonderful time so they got to experience that we also took a field trip as a group to the city into Chicago where we went to the Willis Tower
went up to the sky deck and they also got to learn all about Chicago history after that we went to The Field Museum of Natural History they have really been experiencing a lot of American culture with activities outside of school with their hosts going to the mall hanging out with friends just being teenagers in America for the Japanese exchange program is often seen as a once- in a-lifetime experience this year we are very lucky to receive a grant from the Japan Foundation of Los Angeles a grant of $10,000 that's really going to enable us to send kids to Japan um it's World in this age is becoming a bit cost prohibitive but because of our spons and because of the kindness are we good to go thank you thank you going for 35 years and5

camps at the Oasis mobile homes uh these camps are essential due to the difficult access to park districts and libraries in that area it was a pleasure also to have uh Dr Ro join us this summer uh and share with our camp leaders and participants so thank you Dr Ro for being with us uh this summer um here's a brief overview of what we did uh during the months of June and July [Music] the [Music] thank you so much for your support and um our summer camp internships have provided students with an invaluable opportunity to put into practice the core pillars of our school reinforcing skills such as leadership empathy growth advocacy collaboration and personal identity our students will now share examples of how this program exemplifies the pillars that we hold dear my name
is Andres anel and I'm a junior as a camp leader I had to lead by example and I thought to myself how do I want the children to see me and also how do I want to see myself children learned a lot from older figures and I wanted to make sure I was leading them the right path so I decided then to be a more respectful more enthusiastic and a more open person this not only helped me connect with the children but also to connect with others my name is Addie Fox and I'm a junior I engaged with children from all different backgrounds this summer more than I'd ever before and it helped me gain empathy by realizing that given equal opportunities like the Oasis summer camp that all children are able to grow to
their full potential by interacting with children I would have otherwise never met I found that in our Essence we are all the same hi my name is Matthew Vasquez and I'm a junior participating in the summer camp helped me develop a growth mindset because I miss uh I faced many challenges and I overcame them when a child in my group didn't want to participate I offered alternative ways to engage like helping others or taking on different tasks this taught me to overcome challenges not just for myself but for others as well hi my name is Emily Hera and I am a senior as the leader of the reading station for the O's summer camp I learned how to advocate for the kids I was taking care of I wanted to seriously improve the reading station
and for it to be more engaging this year we added a puppet Reading alloud Station in which Addie and I would pick out a book for the grade level intended through this we would read the story with motions and Gestures in order to not only make it more engaging but also Express the emotions of the story book characters by adding this station I learned to advocate for the kids to ensure they receive the best materials and resources for their education my name is Edwin and I'm a senior being a camp leader at the Oasis summer camp on top of also being a competitive cheerleader at elro high school has taught me how important it is to collaborate with others some things can't just be done on your own collaborating with others can have an immense
impact on your environment and your future and it's something that I wanted to instill in the kids participating at the Oasis summer camps hello my name is Rose and I'm a senior this summer I was able to participate in the Japanese exchange program at EG during my time in Japan I visited a daycare where I was able to connect with many young children preparing for elementary school when I returned to the US and participated in the Oasis camps I was able to take what I learned in Japan and apply it with the students at the camp making their experiences more unique hi my name is jelli I'm a senior at Oasis summer camp I not only learned leadership but I also collaborated with a bunch of my peers who I've never collaborated with before but
also my community in trying to ensure a great path towards the kids future which we hope to shape young minds this Camp helped me de develop all these leadership skills which I believe are important for all students wow and now I would like to ask if everyone can stand for the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible justice for all so Mr Castro you want to come to the podium for those that don't know because I'm going to remind everybody I was in Bloomington when they awarded you teacher of the year in 2017 Paul kind of spilled the beans in halftime so I knew it was coming but that's okay because he said to
me am I going to spoil this for you probably but it was I was very honored to be there which uh the State Board recognized and certainly it's coming through today so um I have a question how many students do can you go up to to be a c camp counselor uh around 70 wow okay so this year we had around that number and um we have a mixture of uh interns and volunteers okay does anybody else want to ask anything Mark I think you've been there right been there previous years and I really feel bad that I didn't I didn't I wasn't able to partake this year because it's always a great experience we appreciate all your support though with everything you do for us so thank you all right so if if the
board would join join me over going take a quick photo with the kids and then let them get on their way thanks guys did a great job really appreciate it Paul you want to collect the folders or my about okay thank you once again one of the great programs that we uh have in uh district 214 um what do we got so next is the approval of the agenda does anyone want to pull an item from the consent agenda okay can I have approval of the agenda second there's been a motion in a second please call the rooll walker yes Ral I dling yes fito yes Hinman I Ander I motion carries 60 thank you need a motion in a second for the approval of the open and close minutes from the meeting held on
September 12th Andrew should we take those separately no you sorry no you're I no okay for uh meeting on September 12th 2024 a motion on a second please some move second it's been a motion in a second please call a roll fito yes Walker yes dling yes Hinman abstain Ral I enqu sir I motion carries five 01 thank you next on the agenda is the partner recognition um superintendent's report you wanted okay there's um go ahead all right um in my report this evening I I want to start with uh with our partner recognition uh our partner was unfortunately not able to be with us this evening but we'd still like to show U start with a brief spotlight video about the work of tasus Chevrolet provides with our students hi this is Crystal I
am an inter atas TR willing I've been an inter here since February of 2024 I'm a learner and I'm still learning new things but I've been standing cars I've been cing I've been putting bumpers taking off bumpers this doing this like mat just like a hobby this is like what I want to do for the rest of my life that I want to be here I like collaborating all people always to you're like I have honest only being focused I aent and everything collaborating with and like working in this field really did that for me very nice Tas Chevrolet provides our stud students with valuable Hands-On Automotive experience through internships by rotating through all the workstations in task as B Auto Body Shop students gain essential skills and then help shape and Advance their future
career paths in addition to offering on-site learning opportunities Joe Williams body shop owner has generously volunteered his time at The District's skilled trades fair speaking to students from across our schools about careers in the automotive industry we thank tasa Chevrolet uh for their support and partnership in this me ful impact they have on our students and we'll be visiting them at a later date to uh prevent provide them this um partnership award thank you Dr Ro um I understand that no one signed up for I have more oh sorry go ahead I have more I thought you were chime in I do we G to chime in on uh on on the partner recognition um I'd like to highlight you know initial um numbers in terms of our attendance rates obviously chronic absenteeism has been
uh Nationwide challenge that we're trying we're battling in schools across the country um post pandemic and I wanted to to just highlight a few of the the interventions that uh that we have in place as well as kick off where we are in the school year what you have in your in your folder is uh year-over-year of the past three years to show um August and September in terms of months which shows basically we're on track to where we were in in Prior years um the other piece of paper that's in your folder is last year's toal rules of attendance rate as well as The Chronic absenteeism rate uh which we showed some improvement um not as fast as we had hoped but uh some improvement indeed but I want to highlight uh some of
the interventions that we have in place that that began last year that we've enhanced this year uh we increase awareness around the importance of attendance in a monthly newsletter to families highlighting individual students attendance patterns compared to that of the district 214 average so families will receive an attendance for their child as well as the number of days that the average student in district 214 um is they have they have an idea if they are you know ahead of the curve or if there's an intervention that might be needed at home increase awareness with signage around the school as well as in our family Communications we have targeted lessons in in our schools about the importance of attendance uh automated phone calls about student absences and push notifications through Infinite Campus um and added layer
we also will are providing home visits um some of these methods are unsuccessful to try and connect with the family and understand uh What uh what what what what is in the way standing in the way of of regular attendance and if we can help with that we have targeted student counseling groups with students who have attendance challenges so they can form a sense of community in the school um as well as a greater focus on our sense of community and student belonging across all of our buildings as that is is we believe to be the hook that our students need to know that they they they are wanted um and that we need them here with us um as well as teachers simple um commenting on we missed you when you weren't here the
day prior um and and reaching out when in an absence we were some schools have been begun incentivizing attendance improvements with Spirit we lunches special events and then implementing uh one trusted adult which is a an add-on in Infinite Campus where we're able to identify for each student in our buildings who they feel their trusted adult is that we can then um add as a as a a a note in each student's account so if there is a need for an intervention or a conversation with a trusted adult with an individual student we know who that student believes their trusted adult is to try and break down that barrier and then finally the solution finding teams are meeting regularly and identifying students who are beginning to show patterns of of attendance challenges so we can
intervene as as quickly as possible so just wanted to have that update I'll I can update uh periodically throughout the year but this is one of our primary areas of focus um as obviously it's it's really hard to learn and stay on top of your studies if you're not in school so one of our primary areas of focus uh next I want to highlight that uh you know annually we are uh required to a report on the teacher salary survey report in your folders um you will find that annual teacher salary survey which will be posted on our website on October 1st and then finally I'd like to uh acknowledge the district 214 Board of Education uh he Pride Prides itself on board governance and aderes to the iasb guidelines for Effective board leadership uh
board development and governance in the school district I'm proud to share that um again this year uh iasb has recognized the district 214 Board of Education uh for exceptional board governance and and leadership in the state so congratulations and thank you for your partnership as well as uh excellence and Leadership of the of the district that's all I have thank you Dr R and we'll award uh Tesa in person at a later date yes we will Mr Magie will set up a uh a meeting with him and we'll go visit thank you appreciate it now we're at public comments and I see no one has signed up for public comments so we'll move on uh board member updates Mr dling would you like to start sure uh last weekend I was at Wheeling for the
th annual uh Chicago land marching B contest uh it's the oldest marching band contest in Chicago area and uh it's always a fun event um the weather was just super uh I've been there a few years where the weather wasn't super but it was just great and they they Wheeling carried off a great job Mr Malik is director there and they did a good job today uh was the district uh 214 chorus um function and it was over at Prospect High School uh they had a um instructor come in amazing uh they did Africana studies primarily with gospel uh it was really really good they the students were engaged it was probably I would say probably 20 students from each school that attend and it goes uh all day long and it was certainly certainly
