Heat up Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Hey everybody. Heat. I'm calling the special meeting to order for Bullhead City School Board on Friday, March 20th, 2026 at 8:30 p or 8:30 p.m. 8:30 a.m. Jeez. Roll call. President Melinda Saski >> Fred Rushton here. >> Charlene Dia is here. Barbar Ziki here. >> Would you please stand and say >> Dr. Sheila Bernett here? >> Oh, Sheila, how are you doing? >> Here we go. Sing. >> I'm doing well. >> Okay, stand there and say the pledge with us. to the flag of the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation and all indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Um, no public requests or anything like that. So, we're okay with this. >>
Citizens present need to sign in. >> Okay. >> And then >> All right. Um, I need a motion to adopt the agenda. >> I make a motion we adopt the agenda as presented. >> I'll second the motion. >> All those in favor? I, Melinda Saskki. >> Hi, Fred Rushton. >> I Charlene Diaz. >> Hi, Barb Zarziki. >> Okay. Item >> Hi, Sheila Bernett. >> I keep Sheila, I think there's a time. >> You keep forgetting about me. >> No, there's a time delay, but I will I'll be more patient. Fred's going to hear is going to poke me next time I do something. Um item 2.1 fiscal year 27 anticipated budgetary planning proposal. We tabled this from our last meeting and have come back now to talk about it and I was really disappointed that
the community didn't come up with a million $18,000 for us. But that's okay because we have some other things to talk about. So Dr. Stewart, what would you like to tell us? Uh, Madame President and board members, um, I actually did get some feedback from a couple of employees and from a board member. Um, I always appreciate the the various perspectives because um, uh, that makes me go back, crunch numbers again, look at the ideas, figure out, you know, how how they fit in or don't. Um, and it keeps me honest, uh, because I keep going back to my core value of what's in the best interest of students, but I also then have to think about that in terms of fiscal responsibility because that's part of my job. So, um, uh, so I did
go back and crunch numbers on based on the suggestions and the ideas that were shared with me. um there were no significant differences in what those might do either relative to um keeping positions that were on the list to eliminate um nor um uh in in terms of saving funds and you know and saving positions. So um uh my original um proposal uh stands and I just would remind you all that um uh you know this was too big of a decision for me to be working on by myself. all of the principles, assistant principles and directors were involved in this discussion starting early in January and um multiple meetings and multiple discussions. So um you know that and and they could all weigh in on what might be considered better for the students at
their sites. Um, and you can see uh in some of the documents that I've presented to you where specific sites have said, you know, our kids need this >> and um and so, you know, we could cut here to to keep this. Um, and that was all part of the part of the long discussions. >> It's tough. >> It is. It is. I told you all this is the second toughest this is the te second toughest decision or thing I've had to deal with in over 50 years in education and um uh I would love not to have another one that becomes second or first in the future but um uh from >> sometimes we have to do the painful things >> from the materials that you gave us um we have all the one
a tech position that is not getting one one person who is not going to be rehired at some some place. Two, we have we have a teacher a tech teacher who is only certified to teach technology and that was one of the three CTE positions at Fox Creek. Um and they uh you know in the scheme of things they could keep one and I deferred to the principal on the choice of which one which position to keep. Um the the teacher in the other position u has already been um uh cons already moved in you know for next year has already been moved into except for signing the paperwork. Uh all all the p you know everything's done but the paperwork for that person to have a position. And then one other uh uh CTE
position where the teacher has um temporary certification and if that person chooses to get you know regular certification in some area um we'd find a position for that person. So it's it really boils down to two individuals uh tough. One of them has been with us for over 20 years. Um uh and that's probably that's really difficult. Uh but of the 22 positions it it you know those are two folks that that right now there's nothing viable for them. Doesn't mean there wouldn't be in the future but there certainly isn't now. >> Are are they are they pretty much lateral salary wise? >> Yes, very much so. >> Okay. So what what you're saying then is the all the positions we've talked about that everybody has been reassigned to a new position. So basically only
two people would be losing a a job here not 20ome >> everybody everybody either has been or could be. So for instance there are two parap positions that are going away that have individuals in them. Uh we have lots of open parap positions right now. we wouldn't transfer them into those right now, but I will guarantee you in the last 20 years we've opened school with, you know, or gotten ready to open school with open pair of positions. And so, you know, so there's there are absolutely opportunities for those folks. And um uh so, you know, the two positions that I see, the two people in positions that I see right now that we don't have some opportunity for them are those two tech positions. the two tech. >> But I thought the tech position
you had referred her to get to check with her transcripts and all that stuff. See if she >> I know that's already been done. That person's already that person's already set up to be in a math position at Fox Creek. >> Perfect. >> So okay, that one's already covered. >> That one's covered. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So that the 20-year employee that we have is not going to doesn't have a job >> would not have when this position's eliminated. Not with our district. >> Okay. That's sad. That >> it's very sad. >> Yeah. And and there's no position that that that person could be. >> No. nor the nor the teacher who has only the only the technology CTE cert I I I can see with just you know one certification that that where that's
very limited and stuff >> but um but the other one >> it's tough. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, this was all agreed to by principles and your directive staff. Okay. Um, I need a motion then. Oh, excuse me. Are there any other questions? Sheila, do you have any questions? >> No, I do not. >> Okay. Um, I I do have one question. Are there any type of administrative jobs that we could be looking at maybe limiting to a part-time position rather than a full-time position >> because >> well we already one of one of the moves here is to uh combine uh an assistant principal position so we will be sharing one between Sunrise and Diamondback. >> Okay. >> Uh both of those individuals um uh Mr. Aean has already resigned from the position at the
middle school. one of those two assistant principles will be selected for the assistant principal ship at the middle school and the other one will remain in that uh in that split position. >> Um uh but we are in spite of whatever you see in the press >> we are not administrationheavy >> and um uh so at this point no there's no place else. >> Jen does three jobs, Kate does two jobs. >> Yeah. Uh, Amanda does has four hats that she wears. Um, uh, and I have a couple. >> Yeah, I was just thinking of a new one that was put in this last year. That's why I was questioning. >> We don't have any new administrative. We have we have a new coaching position, but we don't have administrative. >> I Well, I guess
it was a coaching type position, >> but that's so that we can maintain what we've been doing for three years. >> And uh, and we need to do that. you know, we've invested heavily in what's going on in the classrooms. Um, and um, and and I will tell you that never even came up in the discussion from principles or anybody. That position never came up as a, you know, a consideration because they all recognize the value of that position. >> Okay. Any other questions? I would just like to uh comment that last uh last week when we first looked at this, it was like, oh my gosh, um but I just have to commend you and everybody else that helped work on the project with you uh for coming up with such an amazing plan
that, you know, hopefully we'll be able to um meet the fiscal needs and and minimize the impact to our our precious teachers. So anyway, just thank you for doing such a wonderful job and I I thank you also on behalf of all the teachers and staff as well. >> Thank you. It was it's difficult. >> Okay, I need a motion to >> I would like to Oh, I'm sorry. >> I would like to make just a quick comment. And it goes along with Fred. As an employer, I totally understand the situation. I've had to do this myself. And I want to say thank you for everybody really taking the time before we just voted on this and and for all the hard work that went into it. >> We're definitely nashing of teeth. >> Yeah,
definitely. >> Sleepless nights. >> Yeah. I need a motion to approve the uh yeah, the budgetary planning pro proposal. It's not anticipated anymore. I'll make a motion that we approve the proposed um hang on. Fiscal year 27 budgetary planning proposal. >> I'll second the motion. >> All those in favor? I Melinda Subasi. I Fred Rushton. >> I Charlene Diaz. >> I barziki. >> I Sheila Barnett. >> Okay, that that was >> Yeah. >> Okay. I item 2.2 employees recommended for renewal for school year 2627. >> Madame President and board members, um this is the list of current employees. um who are being recommended for renewal for next year um in the in the positions that they are uh that they are currently um in which they currently reside other than one that has already uh
been approved for a move. So um I recommend that you approve this list. I need a motion to approve the employees. >> Why is that one person salary and >> changing a job? >> Oh, >> yeah. >> Changing roles. >> Okay. >> She moved from teacher to coach, right? >> No, the other way. Coach to teacher. >> Teacher. Okay. >> I knew there was a change. Um, >> I need a motion to approve uh employees to recommend the employees be given contracts. >> Okay. >> And work agreements. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> I make a motion that we accept the employees recommended for renewal for the school year 2026 27. >> I'll second that motion. >> All those in favor? I Melinda Sabraski. >> I Fred Rushton. >> I Charlene Diaz. Hi Barb Ziki.
>> Item two. >> Hi Sheila Berna. >> Oh, I'm so sorry Sheila. She he Fred forgot to poke me. It's all Fred's fault. 23. >> I'll poke you when I get back. >> 2.3 possible um renewals of of uh school year 2026 27 based on the adopted budget planning. Madame President and board members, uh I included this list based on the possibility that you changed uh any of things in the pro in the uh proposal or in the um uh the proposal. Since you did not, there is nothing to do on this item. Closing items then item 3.1, future topics. Do we have any future topics? >> I don't Um, yeah, I guess not. 3.2 time, date, location of future meetings. Our next meeting is March >> was today. So, the next meeting is April
th >> at 5:30 >> for for a workshop in six for a regular meeting. >> So, everybody got that? Anybody have problems with it? Julie, you got a problem with that? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. I need a motion to adjourn our meeting then. >> I make a motion we adjourn the meeting. >> I'll second the motion. >> All those in favor? I Melinda Saskki. >> I Fred Rushton. >> I Charlene Diaz. >> I Barb Zarziki. I >> Sheila Bernett. >> Meeting is now adjourned.
