Get the thumbs up from J. Use your gavvel. Melinda, use your gavvel. I was just waiting for him to give me the up the He gave the a Okay. Okay, you guys, welcome. This is beautiful. Thank you very much for being here. I call to order the regular meeting of Bullhead City School Board on Thursday, January 15, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. 26, please. 2026, excuse me, not 2006. at 6 p.m. Got that. Okay. Roll call. President Melinda Sabraski, Charlene Diaz here, Fred Rushton here, Barb Zarziki here. Would you plan please stand and say the pledge with me? I pledge algiance to the flag of
the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. citizens present. I hope you've all signed in at the at the back. Um, there were some agendas back there too, I believe, weren't there? Okay. Item 5 1.5, election of governing board officers. At this time, every year we reelect um two officers. one is the president and one is the the clerk. Uh the president's job of course is to preside over the meetings and the clerk is to take over if the president is not available um sort of as a an assistant president and then she has some other jobs make to make sure that things get signed and all sorts of stuff. So we kind of need some nominations from the
board. I'd like to nominate Melinda Subraaski as president for the president's position of the board. I'll I'll second that. Thank you, Barbara. Thank you, Fred. Thank you, Charlene, for the vote of confidence. I appreciate that. Okay, so have to vote. Yes, we do. Yes. Um I'm going to abstain from this vote just because I think it's good idea. So you get to start Miss Clerk. Charlene Diaz I. Fred Rushton I. Barb Zerziki I. The motion is passed. Thank you very much. I appreciate your vote of confidence. Item 2.1. And now you still need to do your clerk. Oh, we still have to do the clerk. Oh. Do I have a motion for the office of clerk? I nominate Fred Rushton for clerk. I'll second that motion. All those in favor? I. Melinda Sabraski. I Charlene
Diaz. I Fred Rushton. I Barb Serziki. Okay, now we got 1.6. A brief recess to reset some name plates, I guess. Yep. Two of them. Thank you very much, Charlene, for doing what you've done for so many times. Okay, I think we're good. There have been times when I've showed up late cuz I've been working and Charlene has set stepped up and it's just really been very pleasant to know that somebody was there. Now we got Fred after all these years. They're splitting us up. Yes, they are. No, I don't like your chair. It doesn't go down fast enough. All right. Okay. You know, it was really nice, Fred, when you were sitting down there because it was like there was a rose between the two thorns, but Well, there still is. still. Well, there
still is. And she's even got a rosecoled shirt on, so we're okay with that. Item 2.1, roll call. Uh, getting back to reconvening the opening items. Um, do I need to vote? Do we need to have a roll call on this? Because you have call. Okay. Because you have new people. Um, it's just a roll call like usual. I'm present Melinda Sabraski. Fred Rushton here. Charlene Dia is here. Vice Ziki here. Item 2.2 establish a date and time for board meetings u for 2026. Did I do it again? 20 thou 2026. That's better. That's a good math term. Um are we game for um keeping it where it is or do you guys need to change it? The schedule's changed. I'm okay with that. President schedule works for me. Okay, Madame President, I would um
request that you consider moving it back to the second Thursday. Um simply so that we are almost always ahead of the middle of the month. Um at least consider that please. um uh so that we're not stuck on days like today which is the 15th or stuck on 161 17 or 18 and have to have a special meeting before the 15th. Many of the things that we submit to the state must be done before the 15th. So if you would please consider back to second Thursday. Second Tuesday or second Thursday. Yeah. Do I have a motion to that effect? I make a motion we change the meeting date back to the second Thursday of the month. I'll second that motion. All those in favor? I Melinda Sabraski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. I Barb
Zerziki. Thank you. Um, were there any call to the public? Okay. I'm I'm waiting to see from this public. This public is looking good. Um, donations. Um, oh my gosh. Brand new paperback books. Does that go in? Oh, that goes in their vending machine. Have you seen that vending machine recently? That's that's got some good titles in it. So, thank you to Tamson. Cheryl Johnson donated eight Kindle Fire tablets. Wow. Thank you very much, Cheryl. Laughlin Chamber. Thank you. Thank you. We uh we appreciate everything that comes from our our community. At least I do. Do you? Absolutely. Okay. Absolutely. Thank you for every donation. Thank you. Item 2.5, adoption of the agenda. Do I have a motion to adopt the agenda? I'll make a motion to adopt the agenda as presented. I'll second the
motion. All those in favor? I, Melinda Sabraski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. I represent Ziki. Okay. Ms. Superintendent. Uh, Madame President and board members, uh, you see the the usual monthly reports there. If you have questions, I'll try to answer them. They were pretty straightforward this time. I I thought they were, except I I do have a question. The uh five-year comparison count versus the three-year comparison account for student numbers. Uh, let's see. Okay. for 20 24 25 we go from 2252 to 21102 for this year. Okay. Now bring up the 5-year one. And for uh we go from Good question. 2143 to 21102. What happened to the 2252 we had there before? Don't know. I saw that this morning and I'm going good catch. I'll have to ask. Yeah, I'll have to ask
uh Jenny about that because they should be the same. Yeah, should be the same. See, I do read my reports. Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Um No, because they're all for December, so I'm not quite sure. So, we'll we'll find out. Okay. What's the real number? Yeah. Okay. Yes, we will do that. Thank you for pointing it out. But the real number is still 21102, right? For now. Yes. for this year. It is 21102. Yeah. Yeah. Um in terms of uh updates, I will try to keep it fairly brief because we've got anxious students and folks uh for presentation. U but I do have some things to share with you. First of all, u I'm working on a revised budget to present to you next month uh because uh some of the one-time money
approved by the legislature last uh June right at the end uh has come through. And so, um, in in spite of what you just looked at for data of dropped, you know, of lowered enrollment, uh, we did get some extra money and, uh, uh, so I'll need to present a revised budget for you. Uh what I did instead was I got really busy. Uh uh I did do enough to know that um that I could keep one of the promises that I made um in uh in July, which was if we had some extra money, I would come back to you with a recommendation for uh revised salary schedules uh to put some money to put some money on base. And uh so that's in tonight's agenda. I thought it was more important to get
to that one than to complete uh the revised budget itself. Um and the total for that um and unfortunately there's not enough for me to make it retroactive to the beginning of the year. So it will apply to the second semester. Um so in some cases it doesn't seem like very much money. Um but it does increase the base and it sets us up for next year for establishing our our salary schedules for next year. Um and the so the total cost is around 81,000 uh for uh salary that change in base. um and uh benefits for all of our employees other than those who already had the raise uh for minimum wage in January. So it'll be everybody else. Um these funds, by the way, come from uet one-time money for additional money for
free and reduced price lunches. Uh they come for uh part of it comes because the legislature backfilled from the general uh fund uh the money we would have gotten from Prop 123 which they have not they've still not figured out what to do about that uh extending or uh um or not uh that Prop 123 which has to do with the um stateowned land the profits from uh from sales of things from those lands. And the third one had to do with a DAA, a district additional assistance supplement fund one time. So the money that I'm using for these salaries and for uh we have some significant facilities repairs we need to make, that's where the rest is going to go. Um uh so these are all one-time funds and and uh um we'll you
know we'll get some things done that we might not otherwise have gotten done. Um, I do want to let you know that uh Jen and I received today notification from the AD uh that they are uh freezing all of the grants uh for seven or eight days later this month uh so that they can reset all of their numbers and things and recalculate uh what they really are going to have and what they're really going to be able to give us from the federal grants based on all of the stuff that's been going on at the federal level. So we won't be able to we can look at them but we won't be able to do anything revisions or any of those kinds of things for about seven days and then they will let us
know if there are any reductions in those funds. We are hopeful that they are not because as you know we have budgeted complete use of those funds. Okay. And then the last thing um that I want you to be aware of is uh if you've been hearing in the news as I have of the actions of many school districts in the state uh on their budgets for next year. They're planning for next year uh anticipating drops in enrollment uh big hits to their budget and those kinds of things. Um, I started yesterday working on um our projections for next year. Um, and uh uh trying to begin to work on um a draft budget for next year to see if we have to make any huge cuts and and plans because we need to start
doing those plans now if that's the case. So, uh by next month I'll have a report on that. Okay, good. Sounds like next month we're going to have a lot of budget type items. Yeah, we're going to be talking money next month. Okay, any questions for Dr. Stewart? Dr. Stewart, I did have a question on the budget. I was just when I was just glancing at it, a couple of a couple of the numbers just kind of struck me because they're quite large. The changes were quite large uh in the regular education budget code 2200 uh in the M. Uh I Yes. Okay. that dropped uh it dropped what to 79%. Yes. Because if you recall uh last in last year's budget um we uh funded a huge piece of our contract with um um
IE out of this budget and this year we did not uh out of that uh that line item. Perfect. That makes sense. That makes sense. Okay. Thank you. Uhhuh. Were there others? Okay, at least I don't have any. Thank you. Item 2.7, board member updates. Um, I guess I'm going to BS February, the first week in February. Um, was it leadership training in Phoenix? So maybe I'll come back a better leader. Maybe there's also a an online Zoom class on budgeting that I'm going to be taking on every Monday afternoon for like six times, Kathy. That uh through ASBA. So any and I will get into Mrs. Richardson's class, right? Mhm. Mrs. Richardson's class because I still owe her a book reading. So, I will be they definitely get into that. I have plans to
do that. Do the any of the other board members have notices or things they're going to do or Well, I was in u you just mentioned that online budgeting class and u I'm going to look into that, but other than that, I have nothing new. Okay. Cassie knows all about it. So talk to her. It's a It's six times. It's for an hour. It's by Zoom. It And what what Carol what Dr. Stewart says is she hopes that it confirms everything she said to me. And I got a feeling it will. Yeah. So, but it's just uh just to make me feel better and it would be great if you were there, too. Absolutely. Thank you. Um, anything else down there? Nope. Okie do. These are This next one is kind of important to me.
Um, is Vanessa here tonight? Vanessa, would you please come up? And, uh, I also want to talk to Julie Jordan, too. Is Julie here? Yep. Please come up. that. Yeah. Good. I just noticed this. You guys work today. So, I'm going to do this real quick. You know what I'm science teacher, right? This makes me really feel good. Science teachers are getting this. I just want you to know Vanessa had a 14.4% increase on the last benchmark. So, she definitely did something with the kids. She had a 19.8 in just proficient and a2% decrease in partially proficient. She just she moved her kids up um 34.45. These are these are math numbers. Science people, we understand. 34.5 four% decrease in minimally proficient. That's a third of your classes moved up. I am so proud. And
you were phenomenal, too. You came in so close that we almost had to divide that. We found some questions. Julie teaches eighth grade and this is a seventh and eighth grade at Fox Creek in wonderful again. You took over in October. That's what my notes say here. Holy cow. If you still did a 25% increase in position, 17 and partially, and you had a 43% increase, I'm impressed. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, we have something special from the majority of the people here in the audience. We have a present presentation of videos from Bullhead Middle School Media Club. Who's the who's per in charge of Are you in charge of it? Okay, please introduce yourself and tell us about all this. So, I'm Heather Jones and I teach sixth grade math um and I advise
the amazing media club at City Middle School. Um these are mostly my students here. They're all fantastic. Um my original vision for this project and this club was to create a student led space um that really allowed for project- based learning. Uh the students get to propose their ideas to me and say, well, this is what we want to do. This is our idea. Um and it's always based on their passions and their interests. Um occasionally we ask them like, well, will you do this project for this? Will we need to post a video for this or we need a video for that? And they'll say, okay, yeah. And they they take it and bring them with it. And I'm just really impressed with what they come up with. Um, I really wanted to more
than anything show that their words have power because we're constantly trying to get them to write and I really wanted them to understand like you have power and it gave them a little opportunity to actually exercise that power. Um, and what we've learned is how to work together and collaborate so much. Um, they've learned about video editing, uh, audience consideration, and what it means to follow through with an idea, which is really hard at this age. You can sometimes get big ideas, and we don't always carry them through, but they have actually from start to finish. Um, our first up is two amazing girls. We have Madison and Jules, and they're um doing celebrating the city's growth. So, can you tell us a little bit about your project. So all about our project is um
it's showing how um our students in Bould school who who showed a high growth in our school on the benchmark test on the assessment test. Um this was a very fun project to work with the other students and um gain friendships behind the scenes and with We got to learn creativity and we got to learn how to work as a team and be able to work. Can we please? Welcome to the first of the interview that we that we've been editing for for like 2 days, I think. But I really hope you enjoy it and I really hope that when you see this, it explains like why we're doing it. Madison will um explain why um these students that we are about to interview have scored high high growth on their benchmark assessments and they
we are very proud of them and want to um share their growth with you. So, these people have um we're going to ask them a quick couple questions about their growth in themselves. And I just saw about the video. We're just doing this video for the interview because we want to see people's growth and how much we approve for them and how much we are proud of them. But anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the video and stuff and yeah, just have a good day. Bye-bye. Hi. Today some students who showed growth on their um benchmark assessment test. Each student will introduce themselves and share their growth and then we'll ask a few quick questions. Hi, my name is Nathaniel. I'm in sixth grade and I grew 29 points on the math test. Hi, my
name is Kas. I'm in sixth grade and I grew 21 points on my math benchmark test. Hi, my name is Alexia. I'm in sixth grade and I do 34 points on my math. How does it feel that you see your growth? Uh, I really I feel really really happy because I didn't I didn't expect that to that I can go this high. I'm happy because um it's just really succeeding in math. I'm happy definitely because I spent a lot of hard work and time on that test. Who helped you most? A teacher, classmate, or family member? Um, Miss Jones because she helps me when she needs me. Yeah. When I need her and, uh, and um, uh, my friend Alyssa helped me because every time I started drawing, she would come to look at the
board. Definitely a teacher in Miss Jones because like the practice that we do before every lesson helps me and like her class is fun and I won't get here with some fifth graders that who showed a high high growth on their benchmark assessment test on the science test like last time. Each student will introduce themselves and then share their growth and then we'll ask a few quick questions. Hi, my name is Matthew. I am in fifth grade. I grew 7% on the science test. Hi, my name is Evelyn. I'm in fifth grade and I grew 29% on the science test. So, I'm going to answer a real quick some five questions and how and the first question is, how does it feel to see your guys' growth so far? It's really nice to see that
number go up since I'm never really too much into science, but I like to see how it's going. I used to do not so good at science, but it's good to see the Who helped you the most along the way? A teacher, classmate, or a family member? My teachers, like Miss Benny Hagen or Miss Gumagy, they help me a lot. And uh my family also helps me like sometimes when I uh get stuck on some stuff at home. I would say that Miss Gumag guy and Miss Benny Hagen has helped me a lot. Okay. And what are the most things that you are proud of about your progress? Like again like I never really like was tuned too much into science and so seeing that number go up like me not knowing is like very
surprising to me. Like I never thought about me going up in science. I thought I would go up in something else. Um it's just seeing how much better my score is. What advice would you give another student who wants to improve? I would give them advice to like try and go easy on it and if not try different solution for them to try again and if not try different solutions. If not then um try just keep trying. I would say to pay attention and focus more on your work and if you're stuck on something to ask your teacher for help. Now for the last question, what goals do you guys have for for yourself for the next one? I'm want to improve on ELA more and yeah, I just want to improve more in ELA
overall. Um, I want to improve more in math and ELA. Okay. And thank you all for sharing your growth and hard work. We are very proud of you guys. And now we're here at the end of the interview. Now, it's okay. No, no, go ahead. Go ahead. Yeah. I just want to say something. Whenever you're trying to do something very that you want to accomplish, don't push yourself into doing it. Go step by step and try to like don't think like bad things. Think good things so that you don't push yourself into the bad things. And um one more thing just do better. You are still perfect in the outside and inside. This is why you're here in school to learn and like accomplish something of yours and your goals and get to college. And
another thing is is you do not have to be per like perfect at it every single time. Practice makes perfect, but you always want to try your best and never give up because you could get to great things in life and we don't want to see anybody give up and not be able to do And you could also get jobs with that. And now this is the end. And have a very good day everybody. I hope you liked it. And bye-bye. Good. Good words. Very in a very short amount of time. What was it like? Three days. They really worked very hard and I'm so proud of them. So thank you guys. All they all they need is all they need is one of those big plexiglass tables and a graphics wall behind them. I
mean, if you guys have any, we definitely use that. They were fantastic. We had a lot more permission slips come in afterwards because we had permission for the interview question. Um, we got a bunch back afterwards. Well, maybe we'll do another. Thank you. Thank you ladies. That was excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Don't don't forget those tax dollar donations can go to this program. There we go. All right. This is Ben and he created an advertisement for our school activity after join. So, um, I joined media club because I wanted to be more creative and like learn how to edit things so I know how to do that in the future. So, Heat up here. So, I think what's really fun to know about this is I just give them, hey, this is the event. Here's some
details about it. Please make an advertisement for it. I'll make a video for it. And I like that they all make it because some some students like to be in front of the camera and some don't, but they still make that first. Great job. Nice job. Great job. Great job. So, one of the things that we've talked about is how your words have power. And one of the things that I wanted to do is give them an opportunity to express themselves to the principal. So, we actually Miss Sharp come down to our classroom and give them feedback and hear out their ideas. Um, and so this was um, Kais's message to the principal. So guys, can you tell us a little bit why did you join media club? I I joined media club to express
my creativity and to have fun creating things to help the school. Heat. Heat. Good job. him and his brother um and actually all of our students, one of the things that we've learned a lot about is revision. And if you've ever taught ELA and writing or art, revising is usually the least favorite part, but these kids are hungry for the advice of their peers. In fact, sometimes I'm like, you guys, you have already asked for full revision. You need to get somebody else. Give them a break. Do it next time. And so they learn a little bit color speed. All right. Thank you so much. Thank you. And then next up we have Jules again because she really loves to create and in fact I love this. So Jules you did quite a few people
love. So you actually had about naming a little bit because we kept uploading a video is important, right? So can you tell us a little bit why did you do this project? So, why I did this project is that I just we wanted to see what students think about our school and to see if what we could do if we could like change some of it like um seeing the students seeing what they learned and making new friends at school. And yeah, that's number four. So, I'm going to be talking about this video with somebody else is that about the interviews that I do with Miss Jones that she encouraged me to do it and I really love that and I just want to thank Bullhead Middle School to thank um the students that helped
us have more encouragement to go in fifth grade. I'm going have somebody to talk about why I did this and why I made it to come. Um, congratul Yeah, I can. So, what was all about the videos that I that I just said right now? Um, you said that people learn and why why was I making these videos? To to tell people that it's not just about having friends at school. It's about learning and having fun. All right. Now, what you're going to be seeing in the next video is going to be talking about all that of what they like about school. Bullhead City Middle School of Bullhead City District. My name is Z. Excuse me, sir. What is your first name and last name? My name my first name is Jason. Now I got
to ask you a question. What do you like about school? I like the fact that we get to learn and get a good education which can lead to like college acceptances, scholarships and all that good stuff and stuff like that. And that way we can also get to socialize, meet new people and it can also lead to good friendships that can help your whole the rest of your life and give you knowledge and information for the rest of your life. Bullhead City Middle School, Bullhead City District. My name is Jose Young here. Hello. What is your first name and last name? Uh, my first name is Isaac. Okay. Now, Isaac, what do you like about school? Um, what I like about school about the school is like the teachers are really nice. Um, good education.
Um, and they're good people. Head City Middle School of Bullhead District. My name is Jules and today we have this girl right here. Hello. at what age is your full name? Um, my full name is S. What do you like about today? Um, I like the teachers. They're cute. Schoolhead district. Today, my name is Jules and we have a young lady. Now, may I ask, what is your first name? Uh, Railen. Today, we have Rein. Now, Ray, I may ask you one question. What do you like about school? I like how good the teachers keep us safe and how uh like there's like a lot of protection around the school. As you can see, whenever you made it to this video, we are very proud of our work and thank you for watching the interviews.
Thank you. We thank you really much. We are really Did you hear that? That's raining outside. It is raining outside. And as you can hear, it is really lightning. Yeah. So scary. Make sure to call your mommy or your daddy. Yeah. Thank you for watching this video. Um, bye-bye. We got to go. We got We got to go. We got to go take care of this, right? All right. So, we have Ben up again. He's another one of our creat um so someone at this school thought in the Hawkbook store there should be a coupon that let you cut the line. So, um, I made a little video about it and now it's a thing. So, this video is also doing number four. Number five, please. Heat. Great idea. They really do. Like I said,
it is student. All right. So, we have the next two videos are from the same student writing. Can you come with us? Um, this one was really important because we learned a lot about how who you are writing to matters. So, we talked a lot about audience. Uh, because at first we had both of our audiences shoved into one video for both the students and the staff where they were writing it to. Um, by the end of all the revisions from the students and his peers, um, he came up with two videos and then they So, you want to tell us a little bit about your project? Um, hello, my name is Ryan Summerland and um I wanted to join media club so I could um share my creativity with other um students and friends.
So, yeah. Can I get number six? Thank you. Heat up here. Heat. We should give our custodians thanks to appreciate that stuff. Thank you to So can you play number seven? Heat. Heat. Heat. Thank you custodians for all you do for bullhead male. Very nice. They were very similar videos, but it was really important to see that the word changing in wording matters. And so I'm really proud of the effort he put in that number of revisions he had to do was considerable. So thank you so much. Thank you. This is almost a project between me and so really inspired me for why we love middle school and I was like oh I'll just record the video so she can add it to it. But the editing ended up being so considerable that Ben did
the second half for us. So was that easy? Wait, it was hard. But I finished it Tuesday last week, so it came out pretty well. Wait, wait, wait. Start over. What do you love about Bullhead City Middle School? Okay, hold on. The thing I love about Bullhead Middle School is uh the unique events that they hold multiple times of where they have movie nights or fun learning games that not only let the student become used to the uh environment and overall structure of the school but let's the parent recognize the importance of the field of education and the teachers who teach their student into their into who they are now. What I love about my school and my friends and one thing I like about the school is the teachers cuz they're kind, understanding, they're
also very nice. Um, I like to uh I like the teachers cuz um they teach me how to use the models in math. What I like about Bullhead City Middle School is the lunchtime. What I like about Bullhead City Middle School is how generous the community is. What I love about Bullhead City Middle School is the teachers because they're really kind to students and they give students time if they're having a bad day or they're upset. I like about Bohud City Middle School is the activities are fun and exciting. Thing I like about Boh City Middle School is that the teachers are really I love Bh Middle Schools because they do fun tournaments like soccer and much more. What I love about Bullhead City Middle School is recess. I love recess because we get to
socialize with those students and um yeah thing I like about Bullhead City Middle School is how the teachers are very kind and helpful. Awesome. Um okay I know it's been a little long. I did try to keep it down as many as I but they had so many great projects. We just have a little bit more just are not video projects because they really do work really hard. Um, can I have and I know you guys so why did you guys join media club? I joined media club so I can express my creativity and collaborate with my classmates and and to try something new and interesting. I learned so cool. Like I just say this is what we have. Thank you so much. Why did you join media club and why why are you stuck
with it? Um so the reason why I joined media club previously instead of modernly was due to how the first development of media club was to power imagination and creativity within students so they can um start working together and revise from each other because as Miss Jones said revising is a hard thing for students to do like um in editing essays or um adusting work. And the reason why I stuck with media club is to work on newer projects that will impact the school's students positively in the future. Like um of how uh one of my peers and I were working on a cheerleading team or a basketball team for the school and if that team is really developed then it could be carried on into the future of Bullhead City Middle School. Um, one
thing I like about Bullhead City Middle School is or about media club is that uh it teaches me how to be creative and it teaches me like just creativity, imagination, and stuff like that. And I'm working on this science poster and this is how it's coming out so far. But and then earlier uh at the first media club I made a donation day. Oh. Oh, nice. And it's to donate old uh toys for kids and like art supplies and just some clothes too. This is the post and that's pretty much it. I can't help it. She and one of her friends were working on like a cheer squad trying to get that started at our school. That's one of the um and our last two are Ariana and Madison. They're working on a future project.
I just wanted to a little bit about like the process that goes into that. What does that look like? So, our future project is um for the dance coming up in February and um we are making a movie type commercial um advertisement type thing for it um using script and so um A commercial movie piece is going to be about like advertising about like what's going to be there and like how it's going and then also am writing so we can work together um as a team creativity and imagination to come up with the script and then we have film and editors and we did an audition type thing for the roles and it's really fun to see um all of us work together and make new friends and I don't edit it right you
take you do it all so I just want to say I'm very proud for I can honestly talk about them all. I love all of my students and these are some of the absolute best. I wish I could have had all my media kids up here with all their projects because they they're amazing and thank you for your time tonight. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very very very Thank you. I want to thank not only the students and Miss Jones, but I want to thank the parents for being supportive of your kids. Thank you very much for being here tonight. Thank kids for doing all this great stuff. Some of it is is truly phenomenal. you know, some of the advertisements and some of the ideas. I hope your principal was looking because, you
know, there were some there were some ideas there that just might be good for Hawk Bucks. You know, those are kind of things. Thank you again for coming tonight. Thank you. Okay. Um, we're going to continue on with our our meeting. Would you guys Are you guys going to go home for lunch or for dinner? Yeah, probably. Hungry kids. Yeah. Well, the adults are are hungry also. Yeah. Sorry about that. Thank you for coming. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It's what it's at the middle school. Michelle, pay attention. Those kids are phenomenal. I know. I'm I'm so happy that you put together or let that media club happen. They are phenomenal. The the creativity that's coming out of fifth and sixth grade. They presented their ideas to me and September and then
I said, "Okay." I gave them feedback. I came back and they edited and they refined everything. So, I'm just very proud of the middle school. Thank you very much for being being there for the kids. Thank you. Okay, board. We have a consent agenda. Is there anything that you guys would like to have pulled from the consent agenda or can I have a motion to approve the agenda as written? I make the motion we accept the um consent agenda as uh presented. I'll second that motion. All those in favor? I Melinda Sabraski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. I Barb Zarziki. Okay. Item 5.1. This is I was ask I was talking to Cassie before the meeting about why we have to do these separately. We don't when we that's why they're all written in
one this time because it's most of them are coming from a policy advisory and you made the changes uh last meeting that you wanted to make. That's what I thought. Um so you can uh you can accept all of them uh simultaneously um and recognize that the one uh that was proposed that we proposed that is different from the policy uh policy advisory you're just you're just saying you know as presented and that way it will get into the minutes just exactly this way. Do I have a motion to accept um I guess section B? Is that what we're doing? Yeah, if you I think you probably could word your uh motion to be very much like the statement uh in the agenda itself under 5.1, you know, to adopt um section B and one
alternate. You could do it that way. I will go ahead and do this and then I need a second. Okay. I move that we adopt the policy changes from ASBA sections B and B E DB al alternative which matches current practice. That's the one we did, right? B A B A B A E B A B A E. You don't have to read all those. B. Let's see. BB B A B C A B C B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B C B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B

All of those policies. There you go. You don't have to read them all. All those policies. All those B's. Do I have a second? I second whatever that was. Okay. Um, yeah. I'm Melinda Sraki. I'm Fred Rushton. I'm Charlene Diaz. Hi, Barb Zarziki. Moving on to 6.1. This is How about 5.2? 5.2. I thought we did these. No, we just
did that. No, you just did 5.1. Oh, so we have this whole mess of other ones. Um, same deal. It's the same deal. You just you're just these are the ones being deleted. We adopt the the policies recommended by delete section B. Okay, Madame President. Yes. For 5.2, you're recommending that you delete that set of policies. Oh, deleting that. Oh, it does say deletion. Sort of like when my people today in class said total and they didn't get the word total. Yeah, deletions. Okay. Um, I move that we delete the follow these policies as as we've discussed in the past as presented. As presented by second. I'll second that motion. All those in favor? I, Melinda Sabraki. I, Fred Rushton. I, Charlene Diaz. I repres Ziki. Item 5.3, policy GCCA, professional support staff paid time
off. This is our second reading. I move that we adopt this uh policy. I'll second the motion. All those in favor? I'm Melinda Spraki. I Fred Rushton, Charlene Diaz. Hi, Barbsarziki. Item 5.4, policy GCCG, professional support staff voluntary transfer of acred parent paid time off. This is our second reading. I I make a motion that we adopt this policy. I second it. All those in favor? I Melinda Sabraski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. Hi Barbs Narziki. Okay, now we're on 6.1. Okay, because this is I've been looking forward to this to see what you've done. This is adoption of the revised salary schedule. U Madame President and board members, um Cass, if you would put up the classified one, please. Um okay so uh if you recall in December you approved a revised salary
schedule uh for classified uh where the changes were only made in columns one and two and that was so that we uh were were uh in compliance with the change in the minimum wage. Uh so those folks got uh a mid-year raise already. Um, I'm now recommending uh that uh we raise base and of course all the other numbers change as well, but you see the changes in red across the top for uh columns 3 through 8 and then uh the hourly equivalents are in uh red below 9 through 16 and the changes have been made in column 17. I recommend um that we ad that you adopt uh this salary schedule for the remainder of this school year. So, uh, to take effect January 1st. Some nice raises there. There. Um, it's 30 cents.
I mean, it's not huge, but it's, you know, but it is a raise. It is a raise. Um, Cass, if you would show the teacher one, please. Cert. Uh, yes. Um, Madame President and board members. Um, this one reflects a $500 raise on base for all columns. Okay. Okay. And uh finally uh the one the uh certified specialist depending on the column it's either 500 or uh 750. Um, and in the case of the teachers salary schedule and this set of salary schedules, um, uh, it would be half of that amount because, as I said, I couldn't quite pull it off to make it retroactive to the beginning of the year. So, it's for half a half a year. So, I recommend that you approve these revised salary schedules. Madame President, I make a motion
that we do approve these revised salary schedules as presented to us this evening. I appreciate Dr. Stewart doing this for our staff and and certified and spe certified and classified. I really appreciate it. All those in a second. I'll second the motion. All those in favor? I Melinda Subski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. Hi Barb Zarziki. Item 6.2 resignation of board member and direction to coordinate with Mojave C County Superintendent John Warren to seek replacement for vacant board member seat. I regretfully tell you guys that uh that Mrs. Reed has decided to not be a board member anymore and I I need a motion to accept her resignation and then direct the board secretary to coordinate with the Mojave County Superintendent John Warren to re seek a replacement for the vacant board member seat.
I make a recommendation that we accept Judy Reid's uh resignation and move for uh the board secretary to coordinate with the county Mojave County Superintendent John Warren to seek a replacement for her position through December of uh 2028. I'm I'll second that motion. Okay. I'm kind of sad that this is happening, but I appreciate. All those in favor? I, Melinda Sabraski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. I Barb Zarziki. Okay. Now, this is where I'm a little touchy on this because we don't have to go into executive. No, you don't. We just uh we put it in the agenda in case you wanted uh to uh have in case you had questions about the emergency plans. Um you could see them because we presented them to you as part of the agenda. um that only
board members can see. Um this is one of those items that we don't want the public to know about. Um we do want them to know that we have emergency plans, but we don't want the general public to know what those plans entail. Um we thought if you had questions, um uh Mrs. Aean is here. She is our uh coordinator for emergency actions in our district. I think she probably went to her office. She probably went to her office and but is available if you would like to ask any questions. If not, you can move uh directly to uh uh to item uh 8.2. Okay. Were there any questions that Mrs. Mrs. Heyman could ask answer for us? Okay. Item 8.2. I need them to to I need a motion to approve the district emergency
operations plan for each site. I'll make a motion that we approve the emergency um plans um as presented with the flexibility for Dr. Stewart to make adjustments as needed. Is there a second? I second it. All those in favor? I'm Melinda Saski. I Fred Rushton. Uh Charlene Diaz, I Barbariki. Mr. Madam, we don't want you tonight, the principal's m. Item 9.1, future topics. Do we have any topics that we'd like to uh direct Dr. Stewart to investigate for us? Topic ahead. Is there uh any developments on the den project? Uh no particular developments right now. Although I have had communication from um the uh uh contractor is not the right word, the developer. Um to see if we'd like to proceed. I have not uh talked with him or communicated with him because I really
wanted to come back to the board. So maybe that should be on uh the next agenda to talk about uh if you would like me to proceed with uh you know finding out how that might how that might play out. Okay. Because it it turned out to be a valuable um I guess if you will a valuable asset for for attracting teachers and we know that they're vital. So yes absolutely I would like to see that. All right. Any other topics that we need to have up? Okay. Upcoming board events. Oh, one thing we did, the board members did do is attend the ribbon cutting last Friday and froze our butts off in that wind and everything. The wind was just terrible. Oh, it was. And your president got lost getting there. No, she was
on her usual time frame. I uh walked through the middle school instead of going around. Um, Mr. Ross, is there anything special on here that you would like to see a board member at? Attend? Not at, attend. Madame President, members of the board, uh there are a couple of chamber ribbon cutings if you want to go and just having presence at all since we're members of both chambers, both sides of the river. Um the Cupid's Bingo February 6, uh that's for Boys and Girls Club. That's for their afterchool program fundraiser. they are a partner of ours and so uh some of those after school kids are ours. Uh I don't know any other details about about that particular fundraiser. Um we could contact them though, right? Uh the only school event that was on a
calendar for next month was the book fair at Diamondback. I'm sure there are other school events. Uh but um the thing on the 28th uh is sort of interesting. If you're interested, uh Warmc is the venue. Um there are a number of nonprofit leaders. Terry Tomlinson, I think Cadilla uh from Boys Under the Club, I'm not sure, but they're going to be talking about um uh how to have a good nonprofit organization, what people need to do. We're not exactly a 501c3, but we're sort of a 501c3 lookalike. Um so, if that's something you're interested in going to, just listening in, there'll be some movers and shakers at that. But other than that, I can't think of anything else that really stands out. Thank you, Mr. Ross. Madame President, uh, I was just noticing that
the 19th of February is listed for our next governing board meeting and that is we will change that third. Yes, because I think this was published before we made that determination. So, it'll be probably February 12th. The 12th. Yes. And I expect a Valentine's from you. Okay. Okay. Well, you were supposed to be so agreeable. Anything else that you guys would like to ask about that? Okay. Our next meeting will be the second Thursday, which would be February 12th, and we're going to probably have a workshop at 5:30. Yeah, we'll I'm sure we will. Okay. Probably time. The meeting will be at 6, so we'll be fine with that. Okay. And item 10.1. I need a motion to adjourn the meeting. I make a motion we adjourn this meeting. I'll second the motion. All those
in favor? I Melinda Subski. I Fred Rushton. I Charlene Diaz. Hi, Barb Zarziki. We are adjourned. Thank you all for
