002guys all done that okay then do I still have to read this oh you wanted to do the recording yes this is the time that the public may speak to the governing board regarding issues within the jurisdiction of the governing board and subject to reasonable time space and manner restrictions as the governing board May establish see policy b d h comments will be limited to 3 minutes per individual unless specifically waved by the governing board at the conclusion of the call to the public individual members of the governing board May respond to criticism made by those who have address the board may ask staff to review a matter or may ask that a matter be placed on a future agenda however the governing board cannot take action on matters that have not been noticed in
003advance as part of the agenda and I have three people who' like to speak to us tonight what we're ask going to ask you to do is to come up to the microphone state your name and give us an address of where you live okay all right um alphabetical order sorry William but you're pretty used to that at the end right I mean that's normal thing Devon would you please come first I'm Devon um I live on War Road here in bhead City Arizona um so my issue is with the backpacks I understand the reason of why they can't take them and the issues that are going on with them I was just hoping to maybe inline some ideas besides the backpacks um because I see that a lot of kids are struggling especially ones
004that walk with carrying binders their hall passes their pencil bags books water bottles phones and pretty soon I'll have jackets cuz it'll be cold um so I just didn't know if we can maybe think about doing lockers um so that a lot of that can stay they really only need to bring their water bottles and phones back and forth they don't ever bring homework home and I think fifth sixth and seventh grade is when a lot of girls start their menes they should be able to keep a change of clothes and their personal feminine products they're at the school if the parents can't always bring them stuff um so I just kind of wanted to throw that idea out there so that like I said a lot of that could just stay and maybe come
005home on Thursdays but most of it could stay throughout the week if they had like a locker to store it in or something that's just all I wanted to bring to attention thank you thank you thank you Kelly hi k b I live on Harbor Drive here in Bullhead um I too as well want to bring the backpack issue um I don't know if SE backpacks have ever been an option if we've ever thought about that I work at a state prison I use see- through backpacks all day every day have guards going through my stuff see- through backpacks work perfect uh my son has dropped his binder already I've had to replace it I know it's going to happen again like she stated they're going to be having jackets he has a folder it's
006about this big he didn't take it that Friday he got scolded by the teachers for not taking the folder because it's just too much to carry he's got his folder he's got his water bottle his lunch p and soon to be a jacket so I was just curious like she said Kingman has lockers I've had other people tell me their schools have lockers if that would work that would help the kids with carrying the the items it's just it's a lot to carry especially with the girls with the feminine us it's a privacy issue it's a huge privacy issue as a young girl just starting their menstrual how would you like to reach in grab a tampon and a pad in front of boys and girls and take it to the bathroom as a 43-year-old
007woman I even have a little black purse in my see-through backpack to take my feminine products to the restroom it's humiliating it's degrading it's an embarrassment for little girls that just started their menstral it's crazy to think that they have to do that put their menstrual stuff in a pencil holder and take it to the bathroom my other issue is the lunchtime my son's told me several times that they are constructed to walk in a straight line walk to the cafeteria they're not allowed to mingle with friends talk with friends they have to sit with their class they can't socialize they can't go out of bounds they have 20 minutes for their lunch he says 5 minutes he has to scarf his food down and he's done and he has to get back to class
008why are our kids not allowed to social why are they being confined to their classroom he's not allowed to talk to any of his friends that he was with in elementary he feels like he can't socialize with them at all my last subject is communication class dojo several times the teachers post things on Class Dojo when we reply or ask a question we're blocked we're not allowed to get responses back and once we do respond they take all communication away they block it to where we can't reply back the only way I have this to communicate is Class Dojo when I'm at work I work in a prison that's the only way I can communicate with my teachers I don't have myell phone all day yes I don't have it for eight hours I do
009live and I do manage it but they're kids I get that but um that is the only way I can't communicate with my teachers is Class Dojo and if I get blocked I you know if there were an emergency I would never know it's hard to get a hold of me in a prison it it is hard but Class Dojo helps me out a lot I have it on my computer and I can communicate and get messages time okay thank you that help thank you Madame President I'll follow up on the socializing and on the dojo okay because I was I was in curious about the dojo M I made notes so I will follow up okay so you you'll follow up on yes I will okay because we need to CU no parent needs
010to be blocked no no she shouldn't Lo uh okay William your turn I'm William I live on Real Vista you're Road thank you backpacks again Why Can't This Be lab in school Ruby come here bring bring your light I me you out of touch this is what it looks like carry it like you got to carry it this thing's not light That's Heavy for 10y old okay uh everything in there barely puts in here I have to fight close it so to she we were told when we went to that back to school night this was acceptable because Nothing fits in this but that that's all you fit in here that's the minimum requirements this I can put a strap on she can carry over her shoulder no big deal second class dojo I'm not
011sure if she a were was it but 90% of it the teacher not the school my wife uses it all the time we've never had it there was one year we had an issue the teacher didn't use it I don't know how to correct that but that's you guys but this I don't know why she can't use most KS these last longer you can drop these and throw them as far as Weapons go a pencil is a weapon that's all I got to say thank you thank you okay are there any other people who'd like to talk I okay thank you very much for for attending the meeting tonight we appreciate it it's kind of neat to see faces MH um item 1.6 adoption of the agenda I need a motion please I make a
012motion we adopt the agenda as presentent I'll second that motion all those in favor I'm Melinda sabraski I Charlene Diaz I Fred Rushton I barbariki I Sheila Bernett okay Dr Stewart would you please help us out here um excuse me Madam president and board memb as you can see the typical um reports uh for the beginning of the school year uh rather unusually we had three days of school in July and so there is a a July discipline report and a comparison for you uh an update on uh attendance uh enrollment uh as of today we've had uh we're at 2000 oh my goodness I should have written it down 2022 uh yesterday day before yesterday was 260 something and then it dropped to 2033 and I think it's 2022 today what that means is
013excuse me that that's how many students were in seats today at school so uh it's probably pretty safe to say that the actual number of students who've been here total is around the two 2060 or so and that's just above where we ended the year so um that's good news U because it's it's above the number we were at the end of the year um of course every year we're a little concerned about drops in enrollment the report you have in front of you um uh Cass would you put up the three-year comparison please the student it's in the second row student monthly totals there we go so you can see up this is the number of students who uh rolled over from last year plus any new enroles so you can see it's uh
0142,200 and some um we're not at the 10day drop yet that won't be until after Tuesday which is the 10th day of school at which point any student in these in this number who has never shown up this year will be dropped from that so um uh that's why I say that the 2022 the 203 the 2060 uh is a pretty good indication of where we really will be once we do the 10day drops and the good news is that our budget is built on 2030 uh and so if we're in around that number we're our budget is um pretty solid so U and I and I mentioned that simply because this is the first year in four years um that we're really just dealing with a a regular normal budgetary year uh and don't
015have any wiggle room from additional grants and and those kinds of things so um having having the number of kids uh is really encouraging and um and we're happy about that we're happy to see our kids back and we're happy to see new students are we safe to say that we're pretty close to what we were last year and expect to be so yes I'm extremely happy to see that there isn't a big drop yes uh so was I because we did have a drop last year so it's very nice to see that were're uh right where we were that's exciting uh I will tell you that our special ed programs are at capacity um uh overall um you know never the numbers never ever it's just like classrooms the numbers that never ever are
016exactly where they should be so we have some classrooms that um because of the nature of of the services offered in those classrooms where the number of students in those rooms are over capacity and then we have a couple of classrooms where we're um on you know not at that capacity level um but uh overall we are uh slightly over capacity so when we're at this point when we're getting any open enrollment requests from outside of the district uh we're denying those because we are full um and uh they just keep coming so uh we will of course provide the services we need to provide but it it's possible at some point during the year uh if the numbers keep keep increasing particularly in the high needs classrooms that I would come to you and
017request another teacher um in one of those rooms so we'll just see where that how that plays out um and then in terms of new teachers um before the school year started uh we did the new teacher Academy with uh 13 new teachers and uh and then uh yesterday today and tomorrow we're doing the second teacher Academy with six teachers who have arrived since school started uh and then uh we have three more teachers arriving on Monday and uh and then three more after that and we don't know dates for those three yet so uh we will have a pretty full house right now we have six vacancies um only uh and there are difficult positions to fill so uh special ed positions we've talked about that before especially in preschool it's really difficult to
018find people who are uh certified both in preschool and special ed uh music is a difficult one to fill and then we have a couple of classroom situations that's six positions we ended last year we the entire year last year we had 12 positions that were filled the entire year by substitutes so and the substitutes did a nice job so I'm not trying to insult substitutes but it's really nice uh to start the year with fewer than we uh fewer vacancies than we ended the year last year so if you have other questions about the reports I'll be happy to try to answer um I'd like to like you to um emphasize for us or maybe we should be the ones emphasizing that the some of the discipline that we saw in July um is
019not going to be tolerated exactly and the can you explain sure um Cass would you put up the cumulative one it's is that that's yeah there you go okay so the good news is that at all six sites we only had eight reportable uh eight reportable disciplinary situations which is wonderful I mean it's three days of school but still you know we're talking 2,000 kids and kids are kids uh so sometimes there are things that happen unfortunately uh uh two incidents in the in the first week of school were of concern one involved a student bringing uh it was toy weapon but it was a very large uh Toy weapon and um and those are not tolerated um and another incident involved a one student assaulting another student and um uh the difference between an
020assault and a fight is that one individual attacks another person a fight involves two people or more uh going after each other in this case it was uh an assault and um a rather vicious assault on a student we will not tolerate those behaviors uh beyond that the other incident related to that is that another student who had uh who had not parked a cell phone uh did a video recording of that assault um the good news is that that never got to social media and that student got exactly the same consequences as the student who perpetrated the assault uh parents were 100% Cooperative in all of these cases thank you I just need the need to the the people who are doing this from the web from the internet to know that we are
021very serious about that not going to happen this year no and I and I think it's really important for everybody to understand that um the consequences for the students who uh behave in this manner uh have to do with we're going to be tough on those kids the main reason that we're going to be tough on those students for the misbehaviors is because every other every other student in the school expects us to keep them safe they want us to keep them safe they want to feel safe and and when we demonstrate for them that we will not tolerate violence or even fake violence um uh it helps them feel that we care enough about them to keep them safe so the messages uh in in the in these instances are not just for the
022students who do the things that are not acceptable it's for every other student um that we do care about them and we care yes we definitely Care thank you does anybody have any questions for Dr Stewart no I just want to uh make a comment on the disciplinary uh reports that you gave us for the different schools and stuff I really appreciate app the one we got this month that where it's breaking down so we know if this was an assault this was a so you know before we we get this that says there was a s we didn't but now we were able to pinpoint exactly what all these rights are coming from and stuff which helps us to be able to look at a problem better and say you know this is what
023we need to really tackle and stuff I I really appreciated that report thank you car car Dr Stewart for that I think my only other question is um the teachers who are turning did they come back with and I always reverse this it's IE right yes cuz I always want to go EI did they come back and actually use those skills they are they are walkthroughs have started in on our campuses in fact the coaches were here the IE coaches were here last week um doing the walkthroughs and these people you need to explain what IE is um uh instructional empowerment is the company that we're working with uh to change our model of instruction instruction and to increase Student Success in our schools um and it involves lots of learning on the parts of
024our teachers our instructional coaches our principles and those of us at the district office as well um and uh so going into classrooms on our campuses um uh and we encourage parents now now after the second week of school uh to visit schools we we discourage visits during the first two weeks because we want our teachers and students students to have time to establish routines but after the first two weeks we encourage parents to come observe but I what I will say to you is in most classrooms what you will observe will not look like the classrooms that most of us experienced growing up um uh lots of student action and student participation and student responsibility for their own learning and um uh and sometimes um for those of us who grew up in very
025structured classrooms it may appeared to be chaotic it's not uh Fred's laughing uh because uh it's a little noisy but it's not chaos and our and our students are taking ownership of their own learning process so it's uh it's a different thing and it and it requires teachers to prepare in a different way uh and it and it requires us those of us as administrators who go through classrooms to look at things differently than uh than we did in the past so uh it's pretty exciting the changes are pretty exciting uh but it means we have coaches uh outside coaches in our classrooms uh about every other week uh the principals have coaches uh about every other week and uh uh we have from here at District we have a coach about once a month
026or so um so it's a a very active coaching learning process for all of our people um and our new people seem to have embraced it very well I know I was talking with a couple few returning teachers and I asked them you know how the school you know because you know being a retired chur we always know what the first couple weeks of school is like and I asked them how it was going this year and they said it's being it's a really good year and they were saying about how the IE that uh one of the teachers was a first grader and she goes the kindergarteners are coming in and she goes they're right into it already and she goes they're just flowing into it so well from each grade and and they're
027really saying they said that they've seen a big difference this year with it and stuff good that's good feedback I'm kind of looking forward to getting into the classroom seeing what's going on so I'll I'll give him another couple weeks back yeah you can take that thanks any other questions for Dr Stewart moving on to 1.8 board member updates I think every single one of us was in an open house at least once yes no Sheila says no that wasn't in town the whole month of July a excuse well then you missed some good stuff I was over I was over at Coyote Canyon and in a prek you know those little kids um and basically the mom and dad were standing there and they said what should we worry about what happens when we
028leave and the kid is by himself they didn't say it that way but they were worried about whether there's going to be tears and throwing themselves on the floor or whatever those kids do um and it was real interesting that teacher said I think you should just step out of the classroom because the C the child had gone over and was playing with dishes or something on the other side of the room and the kid didn't even know that they were gone it was just like a miracle you know the parents the parents came back in and they were kind of downhearted about this they like oh it should have not been this way it's always harder on the parents than it yeah it was very very interesting I enjoyed my time I did have
029some some things that i' I'd like to suggest for next time okay and this is these are just mine and I don't know whether you guys experienced the same thing the days have been so hot and it 4:00 is just hot too early was hot it was hot that oh yeah the thing is um I I got there early for me MH you know I'm plus or minus five every time um and I was there and I had the stand out and and I was watching kids uh at the middle school no at Desert Valley I didn't go to the Middle School um and some of them were getting pretty wet red-faced I think that maybe if if the if the Dave or the parent visitation doesn't start until 4 at least let them go
030inside the the foyer and wait there were just there weren't that many of us but there were people who were anxious and wanting to see and wanting to be and do wanting to do and maybe a cooler of water okay and just just just some ideas and it's it's not I I understand the school wanting to stay closed because there's just still busy inside getting things together but it might help the public a little bit if we consider it would you put in would you put in an order next year for cooler weather please yeah I'm joking of course every morning I wake up I try that not working these are good suggestions and and um and as you know we have administrators here tonight from every site so um they're hearing what you're saying
031and they'll put it in their uh plans and and it wasn't it wasn't that I was upset cuz I enjoyed every second you know walking through classrooms and watching the the the parent anxiety and the kid want just the kids just wanted to go and the parents were kind of hell back it was just really cool just I enjoyed every second of it well I was going to say that I went to Sunrise and they had I think it was Kona Ice that was out there which was kind of nice then I got the wrong school yeah and then and then across the street the church there was yes there was a man and a young man that were I don't know if they were selling it or if they were giving it away but
032they were handing out water bottles and and whatever so but you're right it's it it I think it was one of those really it was a really hot a n for whatever reason really hot week but I did want to say that when I went to ciz everything looked great the the classrooms were great the teachers were all real positive and uplifting I did manage um I I happened to walk into the one classroom where you're waiting for the teacher to come and Mr Heel was hosting and she's the art teacher for those who don't know Mr Heel but she did a great job of just you know being real upbeat and and encouraging the parents and letting them know teacher's going to be here and you know so everything very very positive and I
033don't know who who set up the classroom but it was she did walk set up true he did yeah oh it was walking ready so it you know she did a real nice job but the other funny part is I was going through third grade happened to walk in new teacher she's all excited and I'm talking to her she said you were my principal when I came to sunrise and going thanks so she was it was it was nice to to hear we had a former student that came back but I kind of walked out of there about 10 years older but um so it was but it was everything was just the campus looked great Chris and so good had a good visit great Fred do you have any stories about the Middle School
034I enjoyed the back to school breakfast that was really good cars said you could look at me and know that I enjoy my breakfast but um no I was I was struck most of all um I went to the back to school breakfast I also went to um open houses at middle school and diamond back and uh it was just really exciting to see the excitement you know normally I think that many people and I for one I remember when my kids were in school open house was oh man do I have to go there it's such a bummer and anyway let's go and get it over with but I didn't see that I saw and the places that I was at I saw excitement and enthusiasm from the administrators that were there and all
035of the teachers that were there and the rooms were uh you know all the teachers had everything ready to go for the kids to come in and get started learning and it was just really refreshing to see that kind of enthusiasm at the beginning of the year and I know a lot of the teachers are are enthusiastically in support supporting the IE and um I for one believe it I was skeptical at first and I thought oh wow what are they talking about is this really going to work and well let me tell you folks it does work we've we've seen uh Improvement at the tail end of last year and we're really expecting to see some wonderful improvement with student achievement this year so um it it's just uh I'm excited for what the
036district is doing and it's all do I think to uh the administrators in our schools and all the staff and the teachers and you guys are all to be committed and I congratulate you and I thank you yeah really uh I went up to Fox Creek and um one thing I I definitely want to see at Fox Creek is a sound system oh yes uh I felt very sorry for Julie that night up there uh of course it's a good way to keep everybody quiet because they have to be quiet in order to hear you but that you definitely need to have a a sound system that in the cafeteria uh everything ran fairly smoothly I want to comment uh Julie on how well there were a couple incidents that uh parents were trying to
037get out of order but she did a very very profession handled it very professionally and did a wonderful job of bringing them under control and stuff uh it was a good night up there and they had Kona Ice out front too there oh I'm not going to Coyote cany note for next year yeah yeah Sheila see what you missed yes I have something though I don't know if this is where I can put it or not um and I don't know if you guys have been approached about it or if you've been informed about it but have you heard about the new bed project the new what project the bed project so the quanas club of the Colorado River the noon Club is building beds for children who do not have one it's a new
038project that we're doing so please let the um homeless Lea zones and School nurses and social anybody and everybody there's an application process um but uh it's going to be something that I could cry about we already have 190 applicants and we just opened it so for for kids who are sleeping with other kids you know the their parents on the floor on a couch um were building from scratch beds for these kids so that's awesome yeah we finally found something that we can do for the community that isn't candy and other stuff so um please just make sure that um we'll talk about it later but it's going to be a really great service for these kids who need it going to help them learn a little bit better if they're sleeping better okay
039true any other updates no okay moving on to the consent agenda um I need a motion to to to accept the consent agenda Madame President I make a motion that we accept the consent agenda as presented I'll second that motion all those in favor I Melinda saski I Charlene Diaz I Fred rushon I Barb ziki I Sheila Bernett okay this is kind of one that I'm really interested in finding out what you're doing this is item 3.1 asba policy advisory regarding title 's this is our second reading are there any changes or where are we sitting with this okay just to remind you uh whenever the legislature or the federal government makes changes in the laws that affect how we operate our schools uh the Arizona School Board assoc Association of whom we are members
040um uh uh give us proposed changes in policies so uh these particular policies uh came to us last month and and were on the agenda at last month's meeting for first reading um there have been uh court cases and and some things going on in the country challenging and these are all based on changes in federal Title 9 regulations and laws U there have been uh court cases um uh in federal court uh to um uh put a hold on these changes uh until the courts can review uh the concerns that parents and other groups have relative to these proposed changes um so I contacted um the attorney uh this week and spoke with him about uh what advice he would have for us or for you as a board relative to these policies and
041um so there are there are 90 school districts in Arizona um that have been have fallen under uh the uh the stipulations that the federal judge in Kansas put for that region of the United States uh but because because federal judges rule over a region but once they make a ruling the other judges tend to go H we probably ought to just kind of let that apply to everybody so anyway the stipulations that that judge put on uh apply to 90 districts in Arizona not ours ours is not on the list but because that will that will create a ripple effect in the state um our attorney has advised that you uh table this table the second reading uh until there uh is some settlement in those law uh those legal uh legal challenges that
042means that the current regulations and policies that we have in place relative to Title 9 sexual harassment um to staff grievances to uh uh the other policy that has to do with sexual harassment for adults in our district um and student complaints and those things anything that is tangentially or directly affected by those changes in Title 9 law um um he's recommending that we just um put that on hold until all of this washes out so uh that's why I made the recommendation to you um that your action be to table uh action on these policies until the legal angles are all U dealt with we will still be legal though yes absolutely okay do does anybody have any questions do and I'm sorry um um Madam president uh there are trainings that have been
043offered by the trust there are trainings by Vector there are trainings um that have been offered to those of us who are Title 9 coordinators Title 9 investigators Title 9 decision makers um but because uh based on some legal interpretations of what you know what that law meant uh but because if we put this on hold there's no need for any of us to do the new training because it might not apply so uh we will continue to operate under the current policies following the training that we've had in the past I need a motion to adop or to table the adoption of the policy changes I'll make a motion that we table the adoption of asba policy advisory regarding Title 9 is there a second I'll second that motion all those in favor I
044Alinda saski I Charlene Diaz I Fred rushon I BB I Sheila Barn okay item 4.1 revision of custodial position hours Madame President and board members uh two or three months ago maybe four or five months ago uh I asked to have um an extra night custodial position added uh for both the middle school and Desert Valley School um those are part-time positions and what we have found is it's difficult to keep those positions filled so we've had you know in andout people and and each time that we do that uh requires a lot of time on the parts of HR and our facilities director to be doing train first of all reviewing applications having interviews training whatever whatever um so uh our other night custodians are 0875 which means they work 35 hours a week
045uh I did some number crunching and um and realized that if we increased the current two position at each site um each of the five major School sites uh to full-time positions uh we get that additional time that we were looking for and we're much more likely to keep our folks in those positions because they are actually 40-hour positions instead of 35 so I'm recommending that we drop those part-time positions that were approved two two or three months ago and instead increased the 875 positions to 1.0 full-time positions so we're just changing the two- part time to two full time yeah that's basically what you're saying yeah and and the cost to the district because the 0 875 people already get complete benefits um um there's no increase there really all we're increasing is they
046are working five more hours per week whereas those part-time people uh we still had other benefits even though it wasn't insurance we still had Social Security and Medicaid and and you know State retirement and those kinds of things so um the the cost to us the effect on our budget is almost a wash do I have a motion to approve the changes I make a motion that we approve the changes of uh deleting the two part-time custodial positions and making them full-time positions is there a second I'll second that motion all those in favor I Melinda sabraski I Charlene Diaz I Fred rushon I Barbara Zuki I Sheila Bernett item 4.2 Arizona School Board Association proposed political agenda we've discussed this haven't we well you you were appointed to be the representative Barb the alternate
047these are this is the information two of us going um uh this is the this is the packet of information that came to you from Chris cman who is the uh uh the director of government relationship or relations for asba and and so this is really for you all to talk about you know how you want your representative to um uh to vote or or represent you at that uh uh at that event you know at that meeting meeting well we had offered suggestions and when I was going through it they were in there yeah they are included yes so so what kind of action do we need to take on this the board tell you how to vote I guess you guys going to tell me how to vote yeah how do you want
048us voting how do you want me to vote um can you put up can you put up the list of things that the on yes that would be helpful ah there it is uh it's further down keep going yeah keep going there you go right there we go maximize State funding Pride consent dedicated sources based funding equips all I don't see anything repeal Constitution AG yeah we need that done keep going on down there there's our full day kindergart wouldn't that be nice yeah prob 10 12 one two three the legislature did not make any decisions relative to one prop 123 this year it this is supposed to be the last year that it is funded um and they have they did not release the funding to to school districts so um uh and continued
049conversations about uh whether to um rather whether or not to renew that Pro proposition um excuse me that uh one two3 provides about $150,000 for our district um not a huge amount in terms of our total budget but that's about three teachers or certainly two teachers with benefits so uh every little bit helps could you continue scrolling please C looks like there's more here is well from what I'm seeing Madam president I think these things all deserve to be uh things that we've talked about to discuss at the at the uh meetings that you're going to be going to okay go get her done all right we'll get her done yep thank you Barbara for what nominating you for it yeah just I told you I had it last year it's your turn this year
050okay all right item 4.3 Logistics and mutual aid for Emergency Operations Madame President and board members um Lance U represented our district at a County uh emergency tabletop and other discussions uh recently and uh one of the things that uh he knew going in but also presented to me on his return is that um when there are emergencies um you know whether it's our our district emergency or a City emergency or a County Emergency um that it's a really good idea to have all have lots of Partners in terms of taking care of those situations and um and we we really are pretty committed in our district for Partnerships uh our district has not been uh involved in this compact in the past um and um I'm recommending that uh you author me to um
051uh to sign the Compact and for our district to be part of this emergency compact um Cass if you would um thank you um which simply says that if there are emergencies in our area we will be partners with whatever other entity uh needs us to be so so whether it's the city the county the state um that we would become a partner in uh in whatever needed to be done so for instance um something happens and uh and a whole lot of folks need to be moved into a facility for a tempor you know for a period of time so a bit like uh a bit like it was um when the Labor Day uh weather situation A couple of years ago um Sunrise is is we're already partners with the city for Sunrise
052to be a location for people to go uh you know to be uh to be safer than they might have been at home um this would expand that to be our whole District uh if there were a similar kind of situation uh where where emergency aid were needed you know and we're not necessarily talking about money here we're talking about a place for people to go um so if the city needed an additional cooling center absolutely we would be the cooling absolutely if there if there was a flood we might take yes we' take in people so you know it's just a matter of because we would want somebody to help us yeah you know if we needed that kind of help we as a district we would want this the city or the county
053to step in and help us uh well okay if we're if we're expecting that kind of assistance from other uh government agencies then we ought to be willing to reciprocate absolutely my only question is the second to last line that there should be undertakings to resolve the financing before the emergency that's a little difficult to do yeah I yeah I I don't know why it's worded that way because I think that that that probably wouldn't help happen in advance um but it's but it's certainly then you know maybe if it if it's said if possible but um otherwise part of this compact then is that after the fact excuse me after the fact the financial pieces all get worked out right you know um as they should so nobody has to nobody who's who's coming
