[Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] you're going to get us agenda so we can see oh look at this whoops workshop does not say james says we're ready to go i called to order the workshop for bullhead city elementary school board on monday june 6 2022 at 5 30 p.m roll call corey burgess here amanda ayman here charlene diaz here anna boyd here melinda sobreski all present uh item 1.3 capital and other projects dr stork mr president and board members we have a number of projects going on and a couple to discuss for uh approval and so i thought it was a good opportunity to do this in a workshop especially if the public wanted to see and be part of it i also thought it was a good opportunity to introduce to you mark scott
who is our construction project manager and so he's here also to answer questions and that i can't answer because i will tell you he knows the answers so it's a good thing so the first thing is bullhead city middle school sewer project and kim if you'll get that okay so we've had sewer problems all year on the west end of this main building next door and the last time it was the sewer was scoped it's the original sewer lines cast iron collapsing corroded all of that so you can see the blue line which is the current sewer sewer line so you can see it initiates or starts in the boys restroom goes through the music room you know underneath the girls restroom and then it turns and it goes through the west end of the
gym part of that building over to the mechanical room there in the concession stand there is a toilet and a sink they don't get used very often and so in considering this we thought we don't really want to cut through all of those floors that would be a hugely expensive project and so the proposal is to replace the line from excuse me starting in the boys restroom come outside the building go on the west side of the building and then down to the sewer line and mark told me today that actually where it says on the top part where it says 245 degrees we don't even have to turn there is that correct mark would you come up to the podium please because i'm sure there will be other questions thank you the top one's
going to actually go straight uh where it says 245 and there's a little arrow it's actually going to go straight right there straight out and there's a mainstream that runs this way this direction so will it be still connecting through that maintenance so we're not even going into that maintenance room at all so it's just gonna go straight okay my question on this drawing though locker rooms they all have several restrooms is this gonna tie over to the locker rooms no they'll so that's part of the main line not an offset line right so we don't have to worry about that um now with the concession having that restroom in there i know it only gets used during very few times even even when there's stuff in there the toilet is rarely have ever used
but it'll still be usable because we'll still have we're not taking out or collapsing that we've got a cap right here to clean out right here so we're going to cap right here so if we needed to we could snag from near that direction and pick up this restroom right here i wouldn't stay in here and he would jump into that line here okay and the locker rooms are fed off the main line and there's no issues there this is the only line we're having an issue with here that ran down through here and tied it over here okay right here all right so we we put out an rfp jenny sent sent it to 12 plumbing companies we have only one response today hundred and fifteen thousand dollars yeah and it will take five
to six weeks which is one reason that we do not want to wait for sfb because they will not meet again until the end of june number one number two they have indicated they are out of funds already for fiscal year 22 and don't know yet what their funds will be for fiscal year 23. so if we want this done while schools are closed which we do we do have funds in capital if you recall when we did our adjusted budget last month we have some additional funds in capital outlay that we can in fact pay for this that's why i had mine turned on so so i'm you know when we get to this item in the in the agenda uh i'll recommend that we go ahead and do this so that ended up
being a better bid than we had somebody who came and looked at it early on who scoped it and and estimated it would be 135 but that was with the thought that it was going to run we were going to have to cut through all those floors and all of that so this saves us cutting through the floors and whatever and and so the room the music room has been emptied of everything the carpet's been pulled up this will probably be our first room to to determine what kind of flooring we're going to be putting in everywhere when we rip up carpets because we'll need to do something to this floor when it's done so if you have any other questions mark can probably answer them for you are we in line with that bed
yeah that's what's nice with that we don't know this you do so that's what's great so with one bid and if it's as deep as the uh as the sewer line was at uh desert valley that was seven feet deep so that would i mean that's a that's a long ways down now we don't know i mean we don't really know how deep this is but if it's anything like that one it's going to be a lot of digging and a lot of hauling of dirt okay any other questions okay next one kim please okay this is at diamondback excuse me and this is one of the esser approved projects currently there is no way for students to come into the main office at diamondback without going through the health office and that's never been
a good situation but in the past two years when we had really sick kids in the health office was not a good idea for students to be coming in that way so we wanted to make a a different entrance for students to be able to stay on campus and come in we have we have different entrances at both fox creek and coyote which were built on this same plan but that's never happened for this one so what you're looking at right here is the current situation so at the top you can see the two doors and then they have windows on either side and and that's that covered entry portico and then we have the existing sidewalk that goes down and it's kind of in it's not so much in bad shape but part of
it has settled and so there's some of it that's not very safe and then over on the left side you can see where the current fence and gate are take before students to come onto campus so kim if you'll show the next one scroll down there we go oh nope wrong one there we go scroll down okay so our proposal then is simply to and it's not that simple but to flip the the windows and the doors so in other words the two windows will be in the center where the doors are now and the doors will be on the on the outside of those windows then we can put a gate there between the is closes between across between the windows and then this allows us to have the kids come in and then
it's moving this gate moving this fence out just far enough to be on the outside of that sidewalk and moving the gate out so this gives us then entrance for students from campus so that they do not have to go through the health office to get to the office and is this this will of course be successfully accessible yes yeah the the sidewalk there mark has mark was looking at it and it's very it's very clearly got it's settled and so first of all right now the the gradient is not particularly ada but partly because there are places that have shifted and so we're looking at just replacing that and making sure that it's just one one smooth run up up there and then there would also be a gate here between this pillar and
that front wall so that if there were times when we needed to let people in that way it gives a it gives us some flexibility with entrances and um exits from from the facility so the main entrance to the school is the same location just splitting it so kids can now yes come in that way instead of having to go through the nurse's office yes yeah that's really all it is um and and um the public would come around the east end of that wall and come in that door right there we don't have much of an idea of what this will cost this is uh this would be put out as an rfp and you know for us to get bids and this is this is an s are funded this is s no
it's not sfb but it's esser it was in our s or grant plans okay any questions for me or for mark on this one okay then we have the fox creek plan and if you recall fox creek does not have any public access to the main office for no public ada to the on the right side that you can't see here when the campus was originally built there is a ramp there i'm not quite sure that it's ada i'm not quite sure it meets ada regulations but it is inside the fence so right now if somebody comes and who has a walker or crutches or a wheelchair they'd have to call in advance and ask somebody to come let them in through the gate where we ordinarily let students in so our original idea was
to get a ramp that came from the parking lot through that whole east side area but because of the ada requirements of one inch for every 12 inches right one inch change in elevation for every 12 inches in distance we don't have enough real estate out there to do that so mark suggested and what you're looking at here is the current arrangements so you can see the sidewalk you can see these steps that go down and by the way one of the things that we learned is that those steps are the width of the steps is not code and the risers on those steps are not code which is why it is so awkward to walk down those steps i've always wondered why it was so awkward to walk down those steps but to the
left of that from this sidewalk there is an embankment that goes down to this low area at the bottom and and you can see there's river rock and whatever and so abm has really worked hard to make make sure that water does not run you know run into that entryway unless it's really really really raining hard and then it still will because it can't drain fast enough but that gives us some real estate to put in an elevator so kim if you'll show the next one scroll please our proposal is just to the left of those steps to put in a wheelchair elevator and so it would mean moving some of that embankment putting up a block wall to create you know create a i don't want to say a tower because it isn't really
a tower but to create a space for that elevator and then the elevator goes down and then there would be the concrete sloping slightly down to meet the other concrete the wall on the left would be varying heights so it would start high obviously because we're up at the sidewalk and then it would it would drop down as well so that it is not way high around there it would also then direct some of the rain from the roof or you know the moisture away from this area as well this is also an esser project because it was an ada you know we wanted to be ada so cory's frowning so i know he's got some questions you know it's a lot it is a lot this is a big thing i can see where
you're going with it but it is a lot to take in it would have been nice if we could have done the other ramp but we just didn't have enough real estate to get you know get what we needed in the property that we have available to do it carolyn the the elevator is going to be something similar to what they have at the stage where it's kind of an open you know yeah it's kind of open with uh with a wheelchair or whatever they can roll in roll in and then um a button push a button push a button and it goes down yeah and it's on it's on tracks isn't that right yeah it's tracks it's not a it's not a pulley system like elevators we think of in tall buildings no wheelchair
ramp elevator yeah yeah okay no it's not enclosed at all no there would be there would be a gate at the top so it's closed most of the time and and but in the day time the ga the gate would be open so that if somebody comes up they don't have to call anybody they don't have to contact anybody they can go in and then of course on the building side there's a gate so that when they roll in they're going to stop they're not going to go over the edge and then you know and then at the bottom it opens and and that kind of thing so we've talked with um mr eastman about this and about you know in the morning and and making sure that we just teach kids that this is
not a playground equipment and this is not something for them to be messing with when they're arriving and that kind of thing but it can then be locked the gate can be closed and locked when the school is closed so it doesn't become an attractive hazard now these last two were both uh esser this is esser is this part of the money that we set aside for repair pressure yes jen has already uh jen's already yeah it's already in there yeah and we had to file the we had to file assurances any of these bigger projects we had to file assurances with the ade that we were following federal procurement guidelines federal payment you know salary guidelines and those kinds of things we had to do that up front before they would give us the
final approval to be to be doing these things so yes we've done those things any other questions and by the way the i didn't put the esser projects on the agenda based on things you'd told us in the past that if it was already approved as part of esser you were proving us to proceed with those so for newer board members i wanted you to understand why we didn't put that these on the ones that are s are on for specific approval by the board okay and okay one of the things that we built into esser also was a shade structure over our fuel tanks and pumps as the as the weather heats up like it is now uh the fuel gets hot the tanks get hot the pumps get hot and then they lock
up and that's not real convenient when you need to put fuel into your bus or into a car and you can't get it to pump so this would be a metal structure it would not be a full building it would it would look more like more like a carport kind of thing but there would be sides down did we say six feet is that what we said about six feet yeah right so there's plenty of room to walk under but it still provides more shade additional shade and the other thing that mark told me was that it also helps stabilize the building so with the winds that we have it's less of a less likely to be a parachute if we've got sides down a little ways on the sides because it stabilizes that structure
so so this is one that's ready to go out for an rfp and i think this is one of the ones that we advertised in the paper we've we have advertised the rfps in the paper and then we're also putting them out to specific vendors as well so this is an esser project okay okay this one is not an esser project so a month or so ago pat frazier sent me an email and said could we really please finally do something with the restroom situation at transportation and sent me some photographs and ultimately mark went over and took some additional photographs and i and he and i went over and walked through it the other day this is the restroom on the southeast corner of the big building that the bus barn building and you
can see that the entrance from outside uh that hallway is only 24 inches wide certainly not ada accessible and it's up six inches so can't get in there with a wheelchair or a walker well maybe maybe with a walker but it's only 24 inches wide so it's certainly not the way a hallway should be from the inside of the building it's not much better it's 28 inches and once again there's a step up this restroom is not in too bad a shape in the restroom itself the access is the issue and it really needs to be accessible we must have one restroom in that building because we have four people who work full-time in the building okay and so so the proposal is and you see the the storage here this storage area where we
have employee files and things so kim if you'll scroll up you'll see what we're talking about here and in fact after we walked through this the other day we decided that we're we're not even going to use that little short or that narrow hallway we're going to close that off and they can use that as storage if they want from the outside or whatever but close it off the employee storage area now becomes longer and narrower and the hallway there becomes wide enough for ada access and there will be a ramp built in to that to get to that restroom we will also add a urinal in that restroom to replace the one that's in another part of this building where it should never have been placed so so we're talking about mostly the hallway
thing here and the installation of a urinal the sink in there is one that most of us would think about in a laundry room and so it takes up quite a bit of space so we would want to replace that so there is room for a wheelchair to be in there and that kind of thing so we would replace that and just do some finish work in there besides the walls um okay kim the the other side okay on the northeast corner of that building there's a little area that has a water heater that's not functioning it needs to be either fixed or replaced and next to it is a urinal and next to that is a sink and then right next to that is the is are all the main electrical parts that come
into the building for the building should not be a sink next to the electrical should not be those no we would propose to move move a sink over replace that sink but move it over to the right remove the urinal move the sink over to the right closer to the water heater drivers use this when they come in from driving or whatever just to wash their hands and that would make sure that the other restroom is not getting you know has lines of people at times we have 50 or 60 people in this building so we need access to some of these things that temporary plywood wall i'm not sure what we're going to do with that [Music] it was only put up a couple of years ago and transportation now uses it the the
the big room side as a big bulletin board kind of thing um but we're gonna have to figure out what we can do about that we may not even need it there since we're taking out the urinal okay and then the other part of this project the trailer has one restroom it is ada accessible that's the restroom that we would prefer that the drivers use because they can use it at any time they can use it you know daytime or when they come back at night and the main building is closed and with as many people as we have who work in that facility we really need three restrooms so so what we're proposing is in the trailer to add a restroom and back to back with the current restroom so we have two ada
accessible ones in there and then some cosmetic things the floors and the floor tiles are in bad shape the building is it's a trailer so it's not as energy efficient as it should be to install that additional restroom one of the windows on the east side would be removed and the other one could be should be replaced with a low e window to help with energy and this is uh they've never done anything to the roof of this trailer it really needs to have some a foam roof to insulate it better so we're proposing that we add a restroom we do a couple of cosmetic things like the floor and then energy things the wind replaced that one window and put foam on the roof then this would be the restroom that the drivers use
all the time not that they can't use the one in the main building but this would be the one that's accessible to them uh all the time it's only our transportation uses that it's only uh that's not what other staff no no so other than these few that are working in that building all the time right it's drivers it's drivers and they're there sure earlier sure so only my thought here is if we already have we're building another ada accessible one does this one have to be ada accessible it would be because if we had somebody one of the four if one of the four people in that office needed ada access we would need it to be isn't the other one well but they'd have to go out yeah not every restroom you make
correct is true accessible um for example if we had four restrooms we were building in this building all four of them would not have to be wheelchair accessible just one so we're we already have one that is if we add in a second one that is i'm just thinking then instead of doing all of this now if we need some of this space for other storage that's another that's a whole other discussion but rather than doing all this we could make that a much smaller restroom not have it all ada compliant that actually gives us more storage for other things and um makes it a little more usable space because to put in all this we use up a lot of space to to make it ada accessible um so if we can put this
together am i right or am i wrong well we're kind of trading what kind of trading space but this one would be the one oh no i was just thinking if we make the restroom smaller that gives more room for storage more room for office more room for all the others but if we have to then that then i understand that yeah you know i'm not saying scratch it all together i was just thinking making right more out of the space we have um yeah and we're not this way we're not changing the size of this restroom at all all we're really doing is taking some whitening walls and taking out that entrance taking out that entrance which is worthless anyway i mean for you know it could be used for storage from the outside
but it's not helping this restroom any and um and and the way he's got this design for the storage on the left side it's just it's about the same square footage it's just longer and skinnier to give us some hallways so we're not we're not looking for additional storage here we're looking to make sure we've got a legitimate restroom absolutely get out of the money we're putting out absolutely absolutely you have to have a such a large restroom right that's space that we can get it's not really very big i will tell you it's not very big it's really only about the size it's a little different shape but it's really only about the size of these restrooms that we use over in this end of the building that you guys use sometimes it's not
much bigger than that okay okay um so it isn't you know that's all i was thinking is going that route yeah sure well that was that was one of my thoughts and and in fact i went looking for because we really do need restrooms for the drivers okay now the transportation uh uses the their there's um the room where we would add the second restroom is a little bigger and they use it for training if they have like 10 people they're training there's a smaller office there that they use if they've got five to six people they're training okay so now we would end up we would still have two training rooms there's also an office on the other end that they use to store all of the things that they use for training and
i thought that the i thought that that trailer might not be in such good shape it's it's really not in bad shape at all it just needs a couple of cosmetic things but if you all want to say okay let's do let's at least do the restroom and not do the other things okay you know we just won't do those other things let's break down what we're looking at to do it and we won't know until we do an rfp so what it's going to cost it's kind of hard to make that judgment yes exactly and and melinda i did i did look at because there are modules restroom modules and i thought okay why don't we just replace the trailer with one of those restroom modules that has like two ada accessible things in
them and and they range depending on what you're looking for anywhere from twenty dollars a square foot to 250 dollars a square foot so so that was one reason we went out and looked at it because i thought if this trailer is in bad shape then maybe that would be a good a good plan is just to get rid of it and replace it but it isn't in that bad a shape the the trailer itself is not in that bad of shape uh just cause the cosmetic things and adding the restroom so but i knew i wanted to bring any of this to you all to discuss before and it is on the agenda so you know you can table it you can do you can change the plan whatever it is you all want
to do because i didn't want to go anywhere with this this one would be out of capital money our funds and we could not apply to sfb because it does not involve students so this would be purely a district project are other items on the agendas also uh hvac's those that is the employee neighborhood the hvac is not that's uh that's an esser one we just wanted you to know that that we are looking at putting out an rfp to replace 62 hvacs the oldest hvacs in the district which we did yeah which you'd already approved and i think that's certainly i know is that isn't that was that the last one was district employee neighborhood engineering okay and we're putting out the uh the rfp on that and that's an esser project so any
questions quickly on those because we got to get on with our regular meeting all right okay so at this time we need to uh have a motion to adjourn the workshop i'll second that amanda amen all in favor aye corey burgess i'm amanda amen aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda workshop is adjourned so at this time i'd like to call to order a regular scheduled meeting of the bullhead city elementary school board on monday june 6 2022 at 6 00 p.m roll call corey burgess here amanda amen here charlene diaz here anna boyd here melinda here you all join me for the pledge i pledge allegiance to the life of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible citizens president if you please
sign in in the back uh call to the public do we have any calls of the public none at this time uh adoption of the agenda can we get a motion to adopt the agenda i'll motion to adopt the agenda as presented amanda amen i'll second that motion and a boyd all in favor aye corey burgess i'm amanda amen aye charlene diaz i'm anna boyd so moved item 2.7 donations uh our community once again has stepped up huge to help us out as they always do for mckinney-vento a good samaritan group has from the united hope methodist church donated 100 with gift cards for food supplies jenna smith donated diapers and an estimated amount of 200 a good samaritan group of united hope methodist church donated 150 worth of gift cards for food and supplies
desert valley received a kona ice donation an estimated value of 172 uh box top program donated 23 emanuel solomon and kyle kabid donated 80 towards the trampoline uh bullhead middle school gonzo pummeling donated camera work for the pipes the boys and girls restroom at an estimated value of two hundred dollars uh thank you community for all you've done for us that is greatly appreciated item 2.8 superintendent reports dr stewart mr president and board members excuse me you have my general report document and the three budget reports as well as the building report and then the other reports and i don't have any miscellaneous updates today and so i'll answer any questions if you have them any questions on the reports yes i do um when we hire when we hired the new principal at the
middle school it was part of her direction to improve the disciplinary because it seems to yes fully neglected yes for this coming year yes the same absolutely working on in fact at our uh leadership meeting on friday we went through all the handbooks because we want to make sure we have some real consistency and one of the discussions had to do with first of all we're going to be updating the the matrix or the rubric that we use for consequences and those kinds of things that needs to be updated but we want to make sure they're consistent we will also be doing professional development for all of our administrators in july on restorative justice practices which may and may result in some changes in our handbooks after that but primarily it is let's be consistent
let's deal with issues let's make sure that whatever we have in our handbooks that we are in fact using those things so yes it has been a topic of discussion are we effectively using the counselors i think we are middle school has not had a counselor this year that's been the one one position that we've been unable to fill the counselors have been pretty busy this year and we all know that kids have some extra baggage this year for lots of reasons but yeah i think we've been using them i think some of the other things that have just been some inconsistencies in in how discipline has been dealt with i will mention to you that in the administrative reports i noted that there were no discipline actions reported from diamondback for may and i
realized that that's just impossible so i did contact the principals mr garcia has been gone for a couple of weeks and he is in fact updating getting things into the system he did not have them in synergy so we will have an updated report from diamondback we got it okay you all got that today okay good um so yeah i was concerned about that because it struck me that it's impossible that we would have a month of school without disciplinary action at any of our schools so and and we're we're making sure one of the points of discussion last friday also was making sure that the correct things actually get entered into synergy for the report that gets gets distributed to you all and to the public and we had some inconsistencies in how those
documents were being either put in or not put in at our site so we're addressing that okay my other question is in the last year i wasn't on the moon we had a couple schools that came in low as far as the abcd f thing oh thank you as far as the abcdef thing from the state are and i was looking at the dibbles report like from sunrise these are looking pretty bad are we going to have that same thing happen to us again this year actually our letter grades for our school sites are the same ones we had in uh they were not they were not distributed in 20 or last year so things have so things you know just kind of floated along yeah we're very concerned about our assessment scores our in-house
assessment scores and our state scores so academics and progress and not not so much because we really love the state grading system of our schools but because we are not even seeing in our own assessments both dibbles and galileo we're not seeing the results that we want to see so a heavy emphasis will be on teaching what needs to be taught teaching what's supposed to be taught and good instructional practices and one of the things that i will be sharing with all of our sites i've already shared it with our administrators you all approved our capacity our classroom capacity and right now our class size is anticipating for next year are what most teachers would consider ideal and even with open enrollment they are ideal so my thought is we have ideal class sizes for
another year partly because we have the esser funding we have we have we've had lots of and will continue lots of instruction or professional development on instructional practices and as far as i'm concerned we are postcovid problems we need to address our students learning and that's going to be a very heavy focus for us what what's the chances of the state actually stepping in um there are there are some uh things that could happen uh but it has to be a three years in a row kind of thing all right and it's kind of crazy because uh uh for instance we have right now two f schools um and they have been f for three years because there's not been a new score uh and uh so but we're a little concerned jen and i
have discussed this we're a little concerned about what our scores what our grades will be this year and we won't know that until another what six weeks or so month or six weeks something like that so there is a possibility and that's been part of the discussion as well we don't want someone to be coming in and and the way the the way the legislature has talked about it is that it would be a charter that would take over that's a very scary thought to me and a very sad thought to me so um we don't want this to be we don't want where we're going or our discussion about where we're going to be a hammer you know we need it to be okay we need everybody on this bus if you will as
a as a a metaphor we need everybody on the bus we need everybody in the right seat on the bus and we need everybody doing what they're supposed to do on the bus and and and all of us moving along as opposed to uh you know threats and those kinds of things threats don't work very well but we've created i think a pretty ideal situation for next year which should reduce any chances of whining and excuses that doesn't mean they won't happen it just means that we're not giving any of our employees any reasons to have excuses are we still looking at a lot of in long-term subs or anything like that it's very much a possibility our our folks have been filling positions right now i will tell you that the only real applicants
we've had are filipinos and we have filled a number of our positions with filipinos that doesn't mean that we're giving preference it just means you look at the people you have applying and so right now we still have a number of vacancies but we're on top of it all the time so yes it's entirely possible and i'm thinking melinda that one of the things that we're going to want to look at when principals return on july 5th is to look at where we are with hiring where we are with positions and talk about okay we have these ideal situations in terms of class sizes right now but we may be looking at long-term subs is that the alternative we want or do we want to think about changing our class sizes so that we have
certified people in those classrooms so i think those are some serious discussions that need to take place when we see where we are on july 5th um with the long-term sub situation which i understand um are we providing any kind of an additional instruction for those people who have not received any educational background or don't have a real educational background are we providing any of that jen they can come to our pd's can't they long-term subs i'm thinking that maybe we we should add something on top of that that if you're going to be a long-term sub for us that you come to a bi-monthly meeting or something where we teach you some management skills or we teach you some of the the skills that go along with actually teaching good ideas don't throw them
in i've written it down we will uh throw that it's just an idea that i came up with we like any of our good ideas trying to get rid of this cold so um that was just an idea to piggyback on that um i've i've thought about that with like even just the individual subs um i don't know how much training that they're receiving at the beginning of the year but even just going over bell schedules fire drills lockdown procedures bringing them in for a training because we find that at the high school district that some of our subs that are in there that come every day we have them subbing in different classrooms but they're not as well versed in obviously our classroom teachers or maybe a long term sub that went through the
training same thing like lockdown procedures especially with what's going on saw the coolest thing on facebook tick tock whatever you want to call it where you stick the chair in the door and those one handles it works like we went around trying it indoors we have the little fire hose sleeves and you could open a door you know an inch to two inch you could still get a weapon in there but you put that door that chair in the door and you twist in there and um i was going around with um with our our principal right now miss osuna and when we were walking around she was like i can't even reach the sleeve i need a chair to put the sleeve on but anybody could put a chair the leg in the door
and twist it and then you could attach the sleeve for extra protection we did it we went around we tried on those doors we tugged so going along that same line do we have any threat assessment training for like our admin especially with our turnover and admin our teacher leads that are coming in like a team on each campus for um like threat assessment training we did uh we did the ic save training for absolutely everybody in the district last july 30th we now have turnover part of my conversation with police chief tribes and captain harms the other day had to do with us doing some updated training because we know we have a turnover of staff so we're going to be looking at that we'll be looking at any kinds of threat assessment kinds
of things we have in fact also directed and we had this conversation on friday with our leadership team they all updated their emergency plans last year however the piece that none of us have reviewed none of us has reviewed is what happens after the 10 minutes of the actual emergency you know where what do we have set up for our re reunification of families and students and that's not to say they don't have it in their plans but we recognized last week that not only does each site need it in their plans the administrators at the other sites need to know what are in the other schools plans and we need to know what's in their plans so that's one of the that's one of the items we have a long list of things that
are going to happen and be addressed in july to make sure that we are up and running and ready to go and then as i uh noted to you all uh in my uh memo we we are setting up a dem we're going to get set up a demonstration for the uh mutual link um that connection um and in fact i ask you at down at the end of the agenda when where we're talking about the meetings coming up for you all to give us some dates and then have them come but the police department wants to be there the sheriff's department people want to be there we'll invite the superintendent and the board members from the high school district if they want to be there and from malc because ideally within this community uh
the first responders would love it if all three school districts that are in bullhead city are in the same you know have the same thing going on and um and they can choose to or not but at least we can just have one big presentation one big workshop and have everybody there to ask the questions and to make some considerations of that and that's a project that is funded with a grant that the county sheriff's office has from from the governor's office so we're very conscious of it i i will tell you that we were all extremely conscious and reactive to what happened in texas and you know we've had these events before but for some reason this one seemed to hit us all of us really hard emotionally in terms of that could be
any of our schools so um yeah we're we're going to be all over it good i know that with the icy safe and the stop the bleed that we've done i actually was speaking with don lozada whose sister-in-law um helps with the stop the bleeding stuff about even just getting the presentations into the classroom i mean the kind of thought is is the the adult in the classroom will be able to handle the stop the bleed kit what if it's the adult in the classroom that's down yes so or it's a substitute in that matter so i'm just getting the kids familiar with what's in the kit and how to react as well and having those trainings throughout the entire school so and we need to move and we need to move that down to
the kid level as well yes absolutely we do the drills we do the drills but some of the things the kids don't know and and we need to move that down and we were very conscious of the fact that some of the children in texas survived because they had had the drills so they knew some of those kids knew exactly what to do which is a good thing it's a good thing any other questions on the reports no all right moving on to uh 3.9 consent agenda uh any 2.9 sorry i like that point nine uh board member updates do we have any updates okay then we go on to she spikes i know right uh 3.9 approval of the consent agenda get a motion to approve i'll make a motion all second amanda amen
all in favor aye corey burgess i'm anna amen uh charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky so moved item 4.1 revised 2022 23 school year calendar mr president and board members this is pretty easy the calendar that you approved in february i had incorrect dates for kinder camp in july and for summer school in june so the only changes in this calendar are those those items on for june and july so i recommend that you approve the revised calendar any questions all right can i move we approve the uh updated calendar melinda zabraski i'll second that all in favor aye corey burgess i'm amanda eamon aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd hi i'm melinda sabroski so i moved item 4.2 asba service agreement dr stewart mr president and board members if you recall last
month excuse me that's okay oh i have been tested i last month you i presented to you the asba agreement four-year agreement and you all decided that you wanted us to see explore if we could get something for a shorter period of time i've shared with you in the memos and things that i've worked with the folks at asba and this has been standard we might not none of us at this at this counter would have known that because it would have been approved in 2018 the last time and none of us were here but they have changed it to be still the four-year agreement full price but if the board if the next board decides to not continue the agreement that the the buyout fee would be 50 instead of a hundred percent for
the remaining years i will tell you that it makes me nervous to think about us not having these policy services um forty eight hundred dollars a year for the policy services and us requesting any of those kinds of things from asba we couldn't begin to do that for that for that price with any attorneys there are a couple of other options out there the trust is putting together policies they don't have them ready yet but they could in four years they could yes yes or less so it's your pleasure i'm not okay with a 50 buyout it's just not um and then in the memo they sent uh remember we're a non-profit well so are we so that's not really a good selling point to me there are as dr stewart said there are other
programs now i wasn't going into this wanting to get rid of asba that wasn't my goal i just am real hard-pressed to be tied into a four-year agreement and if the next board comes in and doesn't want to do this we basically tied their hands and i don't like it mr president if i could add one more thing we have multi-year agreements for a number of things we do but they don't have a fifty percent buyout oh they all have some kind of some they all have something into a fifty percent um so they all have something so i just wanted you to be aware that we have multi-year contracts with other such in other situations and uh and they all have some kind of a a payoff you know if you exit earlier to
that that level a 50 percent buy-up have i looked at all of those specifically no i mean on the top of your head can you think of any that are that high usually it's a penalty fee yeah there's something for canceling early not 50 of what you owe us for the continuation of the contract i mean that would be the greatest deal in the world for a business if they could just say oh think about your cell phone oh i'm going to switch okay you've got to pay us 100 of what's left on your on your contract no there's an early termination fee and that's early termination fees are customary but a hundred percent and a fifty percent that's that just seems a little steep to me um a couple questions so first and foremost
how long have we been with asba oh i've been in the district for over 30 years and it's as long as i can remember so so pretty much we've always been with asba okay and how much is the cost 4 800 a year so for all i mean for for not just policy services that is our total fee that is our total fee and uh only on rare occasions if we i mean we can get training from them we can get all kinds of things from them most of which do not cost us any additional fees have they ever let us down in my knowledge no so i don't see the problem with four years um if they've never let us down and it's forty eight hundred dollars and i don't know about your cell
phone but when i first my first year of the contract it was really high it wasn't quite 50 percent but it was really high court yeah i understand i'm not getting that but our first one we got was a hundred i don't know maybe i'm just a little okay i'm i'm definitely not a person who believes that just because we've always done it that's the way you should do it type situation but unless there is someone who decides to come with a better offer before this contract is due i mean i don't think it's a bad deal we've had them for a long time they've never let us down they're pretty consistent and reliable i will tell you i've never had an issue with aspa and i've so i i that's why i said i'm
not trying to get rid of asp all i'm saying is guys we're going to have a whole basically a new board yeah well i could say with my personal cell phone that it probably is about 100 i would end up paying if i decided because then i'd have to because i get the free phone right that you'd have to pay in full of whatever so i have no problem with getting into that two-year contract with them because we've been with them forever they've always been reliable they give me a teacher discount all sorts of good stuff right so i i i don't think it's a bad deal just do we do we need emotional nice questions it's you know you got to give up something to get something else and what asp provides to us
i think is worthy and yeah it's four years but you know unless somebody else comes up with a better and like i said i have no problem with espn but like like anna said what's going on in the past doesn't mean it's going to be in the present no and that's all and that's the only thing that makes me real gun shy is that's a big if you have if you have an offer like you know att versus verizon is this a movable thing yes i move that we accept the asb policies agreement as written uh to be redone in four years so before you're you're moving to accept the new contract as a percentage yeah i'm sorry so we need a second i second them okay all in favor aye corey oh sorry go
ahead no no i'm a nay yes go ahead you can go first all right um hi amanda amen charlene diaz yes i anna boyd hi melinda sabrasky so i moved okay thank you item 4.3 our new logo dr stewart um well i haven't had time to talk to anna but i did play with this and played with a whole lot of things and then i thought let's go back to our current colors and so these are the current colors the colors that are in our current logo and used exactly the same colors and thought i would oh and you're right james it did pixelate on here didn't it so anyway i sent it to you for your consideration i will tell you i realize that in the attachment that you all got that the letterhead
page you couldn't open okay and um did we james did we get the name tag one yes we could open that thank you carolyn i want to tell you i i really appreciate the new colors thank you for getting for getting away from that maroon this is this is exactly this looks like us this looks bright and beautiful so thank you good thank you i ended up really liking it when i got done with it i'm going this is this is pretty cool and taking the dome off you know we were i was kind of in this thing about a circle um and then when i was working on this and trying different colors before i got to this first of all i took that dome thing off but the other thing is i looked
at the logos for all of our surrounding districts and the only other district in the area that does not have some kind of a circle is milk and so when you look at all of those together you kind of go which one stands out the one that's not a circle so i was glad that i had done away with the dome to begin with but thank you for that melinda i thought this might work for you and i noticed that you've got my name on here i did i did it for you because i said because i said where's my name that's right it'll be just another one that ends up on my refrigerator and i forget it anyway do you need a motion on this then too yes i move that we accept the
logo as colored and as presented to us i'll second that motion adam boyd all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda ayman aye ayanna boyce i'm melinda sabroski and miss and mr president i'll put a footnote on that uh we are working on the home page and the for the new website and one of the things they're waiting for is our colors so i'll be able to tell them tomorrow that this is our logo and these are our colors so thank you okay item 4.4 superintendent's performance school update dr stewart i sent you the information i'm not ecstatic about how i did or didn't meet my goals but i'm hopeful that you'll recognize that we were at 50 and maybe i can have 50 of my 10 all right questions no questions wait a minute
wait a minute okay wait a minute because she dinged herself really badly here on something i can't remember what it was goal six what was number one i didn't meet any of the i didn't meet that goal we didn't meet that goal at all maybe maybe goal four were you talking about goal four i thought it was number four but maybe it was number five what was it what was the other one you dinged yourself on i just went by the rubric we had established okay oh yeah here it is number six um being a math teacher 89 becomes a 90 actually come on if you're going to give a kid a grade 89 go to 89.6 definitely the 90. so you know um i was i was not really upset with this coming off
of the first year of covid i thought 89 looked really good i'm sorry you want to see um i think you need to give yourself sort of a pat on the back for for keeping it up that high if you think about the last year and a half this is pretty dang good so thank you for doing that and i i'm not sure you need a zero on that can we give carson partial points on this we can do anything we want ah there you go i i don't think it makes enough difference in the average to matter but i appreciate your thought and and um and i will tell you that i have very little to do with this this is one of those things that's really on the site principles and and um
you know not that i don't encourage them but i was i was also a little surprised i really thought it would be a bit lower than that i thought we'd probably be in the 85 percent range given what kind of year it's been so so i appreciate your uh your comments melinda um even if it doesn't improve the the average i think that you need to get some points on that thank you so if you what is it on a scale of one to five one so how about how about giving her a two on that one that be okay with you guys i'm i'm asking you guys item number six to take it from a zero to a two okay um anyone have any alternate thoughts on that i i can say that uh
it has been a very very strange year i you know when we look at melinda you brought up earlier the fact of our scores on the galileo and how disappointing they were i look at my own classroom and see the scores that i've been receiving this year it's all of our kids we have a long way to go it's and i'm glad to hear when we were talking about earlier we're going to be focusing so much on closing that gap because it has to be done um honestly i i i i'm pleased with what we did with what we had i think we did really well with what we had i'm not so keen on the 89 as a 90. 89 and 89.67 energy actually bumps it up it's slower that's a big jump so
it'd be different if it was running to a 90 and it was one point but not rounding it up four percentage points quite quite a bit and like you said it actually doesn't does nothing but yes she's absolutely right though nearly nearly 90 average attendance for the district is big coming off of what we've come off of the last couple years so that it that is big they're they're doing a lot to get the kids in the seats now we just got to get them you know doing something while they're there yeah doing something while they're in the seats it doesn't change yeah and it doesn't change the result unless you're one of those achievers who want to look for next year and then you're like oh crud i got a two i gotta beat
the two so no i truthfully you know when i calculated these i they're honest and they're they're accurate so um you know i have no problem with it being what it is and um uh you know because i always try to stretch for the goals and and and sometimes what you're stretching for you don't have any control over you know truthfully so um uh you know the a couple of the a couple of the things you know okay yeah there are things i can control i can control how many events and things that i go to i can control that one i can't always control some of the other things so um but i can certainly try to control them and and place some emphasis and to me part of attendance is you know i'm
not so interested in kids having perfect attendance because i don't know that that means anything what i am interested in is kids coming to school because they want to be there and um and so to me part of what will increase achievement is us having not just a safe place for kids to come but a place where they like coming in and want to learn so so no it's that attendance thing is still a goal but not maybe for the most obvious reasons oops on a positive note too is that you know in years past parents you know gave their child tylenol and sudden to school even though they were running a fever you know should they be in school no but i think parents are a little bit more vigilant about that and and
taking their child's illnesses seriously and keeping them home when they have fevers yes so i think that's a positive you know even though it doesn't look well in the on the data but so yeah i appreciate that thank you all right so we need a motion i'll motion to approve the payment of 50 of the performance compensation to the superintendent amanda amen i'll second that motion charlene diaz all in favor aye corey burgess hi amanda amen aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky so moved thank you and thank you for the kind comments as well i appreciate it item 5.1 intergovernmental agreements with colorado union high school district dr stewart mr president and board members monty and i have met and and then shot things back back and forth a little bit we've
also run these uh i've run these documents past the attorney and i actually have the sign page for all four of those i think you have all four of them um the major changes were the um the year you know upgrade up updating it for the year in the transportation um kim if you'll pull up the transportation one leave it right there for right now one of the things that we added to any of these where money is exchanged between the two districts under the under item roman numeral 4 financing we've put some specific dates in there and that was recommended to us by uh the accountants with whom we're working at heinfeld beach to bring all of our things up to the correct speed and then if you go back to page one on
this one uh kim the um no the same one transportation but page one oh you're only seeing the end sorry okay the sign page page one where we have the percentages that each district pays monty had run the numbers on maintenance and we had it split originally 60 40 or something like that and he had run the numbers with maintenance and we came out a little better on that one so we're going to pay a little less of the percentage on the maintenance for the mechanics so we were both looking at all of the details on these things the one for the agreement for technology we have a huge amount of detail in it this year and and that came about because the auditors had asked us to be very specific about which things were
shared and how and there you can see those and so a description so for each of the things that are shared and we're not sharing personnel but we are sharing lots of equipment and services and programs and so they had asked us to be very specific about that so you're seeing a lot of detail there are actually two items in this list that are going away we left them in with the explanation so you would know why they are going away kim can we scroll down right there so the visions we have gone to the cloud version of visions the high school district you know will determine what they're going to do and then because because of other changes we've made we are not doing ruckus and um so we left this particular these two
particular items in with the strikethroughs so you would know what was going away and why there were a couple of other things that went away and and i think you already knew about those so very specific things and if you have any questions about any of them i'll be happy to try to answer very cooperative conversations by the way any questions or concerns all right can i move we approve the four intergovernmental the four intergovernmental agreements with caller union high school district all second amanda amen all in favor aye corey burgess i'm amanda eamon aye charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sugar i'm melina sobreski item 5.2 memorandum of understanding with northern arizona university dr stewart mr president and board members we are completing a three-year agreement with nau for the program where chuck
nozzle is a designated as a teacher an nau teacher but he also as part of that role supervises a number of teachers in the county not just in bullhead who are working on bachelor's degrees in education and he teaches some of those classes but he also supervises them i think the cohort that he has right now is 16 i think last year's was 17 or 18 and so these are these are opportunities for us to grow our own uh our own teachers and and they pay part of his salary as part of this agreement do we have any questions on the memorandum and can we get a motion i move we accept the um understand memorandum of understanding from nau i'll second that all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda aymond aye charlene diaz
aye anna boyd i'm melinda sabrowski summit item 5.3 contractor demon for chartwells food service dr stewart mr president and board members we are entering year four of a five-year agreement so every five years we put out an rfp for the food service program if we decide to continue to do it that way rather than have our own and so this is an amendment each year they present an amendment to us for estimated costs and and what we would make what they guarantee us to make keith fiedler is here he's the oh i don't know his official title but he's he's the boss of our dire food service director uh and uh elise actually moved on and took a job in california with chartwell's parent company and so our new food service director won't be here
until the middle of july but keith is here to answer any questions you might have about this agreement and it has been already approved by the food the nutrition department of the ade as presented so if you have questions for keith he's here to answer them so we've got an increase of what's going on yeah the cost increases each year and when we get that when we did the original uh when we did the original rfp and got the it's a big binder that's in my in my credenza and they estimate what it's going to be what the costs are going to be each year for five years what um what they're going to guarantee us as you know as savings for each year uh and then and they give it to us in in
pr in exactly the kind of detail that you're looking at there but of course it's a projection so it was done in the spring of 2019 and uh and i actually was serious uh yeah so uh that was um uh you know that was i had just come on board i wasn't actually officially on board yet um and was part of looking at that rf you know at that i'm sorry at chartwells uh bid for this um they've been right on the first year the second year and even this last year actually for the two covid years because of the way the funding structure was made from the federal government based on the covid pandemic we actually had more money at the end in our account than had been projected however we all know what
costs have done in the last six months and so the projection for this coming year is lower than it was in that original projection and keith and i spent some time talking about that and and i said i'd rather you i'd rather you'd estimate low and we end up with more than estimate high and we're not there so so it's down some but it's it's not unreasonable what percentage is it down it's down about 30 percent i think you want to come on up what's called the keith guarantee is a basically we do a budget forecast of your finances could you come a little closer to the mic oh yeah sure we do a budget forecast of your finances based on the enrollment size and participation rates and average costs we were scheduled to have
a conditional guarantee in other words a budget projection right around 300 000 that would be your your surplus for the end of the year as i looked at that over the last several months i said i don't know what inflation is going to continue to do it has been up eight percent over the last not even a full year it might have topped out it might go down it could also double when when we talked i said i don't want to come in and say yep blue skies everything's going to be fine and a year from now you're going wait a minute but we we allocated based on that and it's not there i would rather say here is a projection that is reasonable it's not going to be it's not going to fall under
that we can really stand behind that and the truth is but it's hopeful and local isn't a good budget strategy we're hoping that yes it will be significantly better we also had a higher than usual increase in the per meal fees the premium fees are what pay predominantly for management and chartwells support area support staff pays for me i'm not actually in your budget here but i'm here and i wanted to be able to say we can recruit and retain solid competent effective management for this account because that's the most critical piece in being able to have account an account run smoothly and really reach the goals we all want to need is to have that expertise there so and and everything's getting more expensive so please correct me if i'm wrong the way that
it's set up is we are contracted with the chartwells provider food service and at the end of that contract we have a guaranteed return from you of x whatever that's going to be and in the last few years we've come in with a greater return than what was guaranteed so what this is about is you're saying that we're still getting a return we're just lowering that rate of return because everything has gone up the cost of food cost of staff cost of everything has gone up significantly nobody can deny that in the last year and the other and i'm sorry corey the other thing that has changed though is the reimbursement rate is going to drop back to what it was pre-pandemic so our reimbursement rates have been higher prices went down yes sale price
yeah that's about right reimbursement rate yeah was it 459 just under 459. and it's dropping down to we don't know yet but we'll know in july but everybody's forecasting it at 3 87. significant change yeah that is a huge struggle now we're still projecting that over the five years of the contract you're going to come out way ahead of the original five-year rejection okay yeah i i just so everybody understood what because it took our conversation for me to grasp all that um the projection is about 100 i think as i recall about 178 000 compared to 300 000 which was the projection three years ago for this coming year so but the last two years our actual balance has been in the neighborhood of four hundred thousand so um you know well over the
three hundred thousand projected so as i said i i would just assume that keith estimated low for this coming year when there are so many variables that we don't have control of i was just looking at the direct costs and things and i was you know auto expenses and you know things like that i i was just like employee travel i i didn't know understand what those were uh typically that employee travel that happens twice a year when the director will go to a team meeting and training and it's pretty low really and this year when we go we're going to carpool and we're not flying to save about 600. okay i just didn't i didn't realize that was the cost of the district to send them when they work we employ the company chartwells
not the employee so if we employ just like if we had an employee that wanted to go professional development we would contract they would put submit and we would allow them to do that but you being your own company i figured that would already be a part of that and and the same thing with auto expenses and and some of those costs are the operational costs it's a good question because it speaks to the nature of the agreement in a fee account which this is where essentially we're like chartwells is like your tax preparer none of it is their income they're just providing a service to prepare your taxes uh in in a fee account like this the expenses are all of the districts we provide a service and the related expenses to us providing
that service are then district expenses now for example i have all kinds of travel that are never going to be on your expenses but when one of the on the ground directors or assistant directors travels to go get trained to get new information on what legislation is doing these days and we have workshops on dealing with the these financial shifts and i think amanda one of the things that i appreciate is that those things are broken out that we can see what some of those administrative costs are used for as opposed to them just saying administrative costs and putting a total dollar amount i don't know about you but when i see that in something i want to know well what administrative costs are we talking about here so at least in this case we
know that some of those administrative costs are salaries we know that some of them are travel we know some of them are you know whatever the things that are itemized there as opposed to just a total that we don't really know the fuel cost is all travel between schools none of it is out okay yeah it's highly item so do we have any other questions thank you thank you all right then we need a motion i'll make a motion that we approve um the amendment so we're approving the amendment their permit for amendment for [Music] chartwells i was looking at the years a five-year contract you're four of five yeah four and five okay four chart rules uh for souffs for food services for 2022-23 i'll second that sure whatever yeah i got it all
in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda ayman aye charlene diaz hi anna boyd hi i'm melinda sabrasky so i moved item 5.4 updated salary schedules for teachers librarians interns speech therapists dr stewart mr president and board members the only change in this from the current one is to add the item that is starred at the bottom last month when you all approved the classroom site fund plan for next year part of that plan is that teachers receive fifteen hundred dollars from the classroom site fund in addition to the salary on the schedule and so the only change to this is to make that statement on there so that everybody's clear any questions uh that i move we approve the updated certified scout or certified salary schedule second that motion adam boyd all in favor aye
corey burgess i'm amanda eamon hi charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sopraski salute 5.5 undergraded elementary designation addition to elementary sites grade levels dr stewart mr president and board members we've learned that in addition to grades k one two three four so on the state also has a grade called ungraded elementary and if we were to add that to our approved grade listings with the ade it would allow us to get full funding for some of our sped students who are in kindergarten so as you know our kindergartners are funded only at 50 percent and um and then if we designate some of ours some of our kindergartners who have certain special education classifications as ungraded then we get the full funding for those students so i'm recommending that we do so any questions
okay that i move we approve do we add ungraded elementary to grade level designations at the three elementary schools i'll second that motion all in favor aye corey burgess hi amanda amen aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky so moved item 5.6 additional personnel for preschool program at coyote canyon dr stewart mr president and board members uh tammy alvarez wrote a grant for hqel and received 760 000 for two years uh yeah wow is right um and uh so we would like to uh when she wrote the grant it was for one additional classroom so a teacher and a paraprofessional for that classroom so we would like approval for those two additional positions on our uh organizational chart because that will increase our our preschool it said what 15 15 students in that
classroom yes any questions and i move we approve the additional personnel for the preschool program at coyote canyon yeah we'll second that motion adam boyd all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda amen aye charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky so moved 5.7 three cheers pre-k curriculum mr president and board members for the first time in 14 years we've looked at a new curriculum for the preschool and in fact they piloted two programs this year and the preschool under mrs alvarez have selected three cheers as the curriculum and so we would like board to adopt this curriculum for our preschool program any questions and i move we adopt a three chairs pre-k curriculum i'll second that motion all in favor aye corey burgess i'm amanda amen aye charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm
melissa sobrowski item 5.8 sewer project at bullhead middle school mr president and board members this is the project that we discussed first in the workshop to replace the sewer at the middle school and to accept the bid from gonzo's uh plumbing for 115 000. nope yeah 100 and one fifteen one fifteen hundred and fifteen thousand i move that we accept um the sewer the bid for the sewer project at the middle school and then we continue with this with that project and get it done thank you i'll second that all in favor aye corey burgess hi amanda amen hi charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sabroski so moved item 5.9 project to renovate restrooms storage training spaces and transportation mr president and board members mostly what i'm asking for here is for your permission
to go out for bids for this project so that we can find out what it might cost us to do these things and you can either modify the proposal or one of the things we could do is uh is to send it out in with pieces and then when the bids come in for the uh for the pieces then you can all you can decide which things you want to accept that way we get uh prices for all of these items but then you can you can pick and choose which things that you want to have happen and we would have that we would then have that for the board meeting in july i'd like to move that we do it just that way but we piece it out for a bid um so we
have a little more guidance on which direction to go with this i'll second that amanda amen all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda aymond aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky so moved item 5 10 policy regulation adoption mr president and board members i've given you an exhibit kf eb a facilities use agreement it's one that we've already done but when we were using it recently i realized that it still had the word elementary in it and so it's just a matter of taking the word elementary out of our name for that one the other two are one is a regulation and the other is an exhibit that have to do with the leave the paid leave that we have been authorizing for covid related illness and i'm recommending that we rescind
both of these policies i mean these the regulation in the exhibit not the policy all right i will move that we adopt the revised school facility and rescind what is it gcca rb and gcca ea all second amanda amen all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda aymond aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda sobrowski so moved uh 511 approval of purchase of and use of handheld metal detectors mr president and board members fox creek administration specifically asked for this item as you know we've had many many issues this year with vape and a couple of incidents with knives those kinds of things but the big issue has been with vape and so the use of a handheld metal detector would go a long ways towards speeding up some of those fact-finding situations especially
since we're finding that students are very creative about where they carry their vapes and other especially the females i think it's probably a toss-up but yes so they've asked for this it would not be used when students enter campus that's not its intended purpose the intended purpose is if there is and i took this right out of the policy some material or ma or matter detrimental health safety and welfare of students so it would be used in very specific situations when there was a reason to believe that a student might have something they shouldn't have i made it for even though fox creek is the school that has specifically asked for this uh i'm asking for your approval of purchase of these uh if the other school sites also request them do we have any
questions hold on how much are these about eighty dollars they're not very expensive expensive i move that we pre we approve the purchase of uh and use of handheld medical meta metal detectors to protect our children could i get you to add following that policy following whatever policy policy okay thank you i'll second that uh all in favor aye corey burgess aye amanda aymond aye charlene diaz aye anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky and mr president i will since you have approved it and we are working on revising the handbooks we want to be able to put in the section in the handbook that has to do with searches that it is possible that this instrument would be used in a search so that parents know up front that that's a possibility that's a great idea
got it all right um okay item five one two conveying two executive session uh ars 3843103 a2 discussion or consideration of records exempt by law from public inspection including the receipt and discussion of information or testimony that are specific required to be maintained by state or federal law if i could get a motion to enter into executive session on those terms a motion to convenient executive session amanda amen i'll second that motion anna boyd all in favor aye corey burgess i'm andy ayman hi charlene diaz hi anna boyd i'm melinda sabrasky we are in executive session [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] i move we reconvene to open session oh actually uh six point three i move we close executive session see

try to coordinate that with mutual link and this is for next month right it could be in july yes um i the only time i'm not available july is the 5th to the 15th oh the 14th is our board meeting night and we have to meet then because of the budget i will be out of the country that's my germany trip well i guess i'm not going to disneyland now thanks no i'm just kidding there's still three um i mean if we kept the 14th i'm sure i could be back by the 14th um well i'm i'm i'm on a cruise from the fourth to the eighth and the disney after we just the third is a sunday second that's a saturday is there a particular time that they're going to be in town no
they they will accommodate us they said that mutual ling said they would accommodate us and i will say that because our budget for our budget for next year has to be approved no later than the 15th so you know your regular meeting is the 14th so if you couldn't at least have it then it's a friday if you do that i might not have a budget ready 10 days in advance remember for budget i have to post it 10 days prior to the public hearing so that would make it just a little tight so our regular meeting is the 14. our regular your regular meeting is scheduled for the 14th and you're going to be gone when amen uh he'll be gone until the 15th i'll i'll make sure i'm back for that for sure
and if you want it to be an hour-long workshop before that meeting that's fine i mean i don't you know that's up to you or if you want a separate date that's okay well i think why don't we why don't we put it on the second day or a separate date a separate date okay let's find a separate date and that's up to you i just wanted you to know what you're offering corey's here for it yeah what day is corey getting back yeah we don't want to work we fly back in on the 15th so the 16th i would be available what about the week of the 18th yeah how about how about the 21st okay so that can be one of the dates um do you want to pick a couple of others
that would be your preferable date july i'm here not trying to be difficult but i don't know my kids are going to ai a state leadership conference in indianapolis and i don't know when they're flying back with aia whether it's the 20th or the 21st i'll know more as in the next couple weeks so um and i have to drive to pick them up out of phoenix they're not flying into vegas so i would 20th or 21st i may not i will know more when the flights are booked by themselves i'm good i don't leave i don't wear i'm pretty good in july so okay so you want me to try for the 21st and we'll see how her see how our thing works okay i can tentatively get it set up with them and
and um and with the 20th be an alternative 20th being an alternative sounds good sounds good okay all right thank you for doing that i appreciate that all right any other future topics all right uh upcoming board events nothing slated melinda is going to yes flagstaff yeah i'm going flagstaff this this weekend yeah for the conference so all right what's up uh one of the asba uh it's a leadership leadership conference both uh no not bolts but a leadership conference yeah so all right other than that uh future time and date we just talked about so we're set there um unless anything crazy happens and changes that please let us know um and we've covered everything on the agenda so we are out of here thank you very much you probably ought to say the
meeting is adjourned yeah he doesn't want to he wants to let it just roll getting done no you don't have to do that i know he needs to just say it's adjourned yeah there you go all right [Music] you
