002building. >> Oh, >> Matt Taylor. He's here. >> Well, we can get started without him. >> Here. I know. >> What was that? >> Oh, >> there he is. >> All right. Well, uh, good evening everyone. Uh, it's customary for us to have a voluntary prayer before we begin. If, uh, Chad, you'd like to lead us in that, please. >> Dear Lord, as we gather here tonight, we ask for your direction, guidance, just help us decision. >> All right. Uh, pledge of allegiance. Join me in that, please. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. Uh for clarification, uh board member Cooper had asked the question about the use of phones at a field trip, for example. Those would be permissible under the statute if the teacher gave them permission, but they would not be able to use them going from the school on the school bus until they got to, let's say, the zoo or they got to um the state museum or uh assembly hall. But that
006would be at the discretion of the teacher. >> Any discussion? >> Okay. Hearing none, we'll proceed to vote. All those in favor, please raise your right hand. Motion passes seven to zero. Next on the agenda is item five. >> Uh item five is a request to approve the purchase of an air conditioning package replacement for Gossport Elementary School. This is a 40tonon valent or veilent air conditioning package uh that would replace a 30 30-year train unit that is no longer repairable. Uh after Mr. M had worked with uh HFI, it was determined that u we should not put any more money into this. uh and would recommend that we just purchase a replacement in the amount of $149,900 uh after getting three uh quotes and staying under the $150,000 threshold. Uh this these would be paid for with remaining bond money from the
0112024 bond. >> Okay, you've heard the request. Do I have a motion on that request? >> Thank you, Rick. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Dina. Uh, is there any discussion? If there is an individual item you would like to act upon, we can also do that. >> Is there any objection to taking A, B, and
013C together? >> No objection. >> Okay. No objections are heard. Uh all right. So, you've heard the request on personnel items A, B, and C. Do I have a motion on that request? >> Thank you, Mark. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Dina. Is there any discussion? Okay, hearing none, we'll proceed to vote. All those in favor, please raise your right hand. Motion passes seven to zero. Welcome.
014Um, thank you for everyone, uh, who put so much time and effort into their jobs here, even though they're resigning this year. I hope that they, um, you know, go on and do their thing, but they're all going to be very much so missed. And, um, I am excited for the GES air conditioning package. When it's hot weather like this, it's just the little things in life. So, that's all I got. You know, you've been on the school board now for a while when you're excited about air conditioning packages. >> Yes. >> All right, Rick. >> I wish Karen Evans the best in retirement. >> Thank you, Rick. Dina, >> yeah, I attended graduation and thought it was a very nice program. The kids speeches were wonderful and the guest speaker and I thought it

Um, my comments tonight, I I'd like to thank Robert Bolting House for all of his years of service at uh Owen Valley High School and and the mark he's left on that building uh is is a a good mark and I wish him nothing but the best uh retirements and and people coming in. I appreciate uh appreciate you coming this evening. Um, and I was at graduation as well and and was um very happy with the um just the it felt um a good positive vibe as the kids walked out and all the family celebrated and uh really u appreciated all
016the work of all the folks there at Owen Valley High School, but also all of our teachers who had an impact, had a had a um h had done something to help a kid get there, whether it was from kindergarten on up. Um I really appreciate the work of all of our teachers and all of our staff that uh make sure that those kids um felt seen, heard, cared for, and educated. I appreciate all the work of our staff. That's all I have this evening. Um we will now turn to administrator comments. Uhhuh. Chris, >> welcome Emma. I've heard wonderful things about you from Mrs. Drews. I think you were at Edgewood, but you're come over to the good side now over to Owen Valley. So, we're happy to have you and get you some

Uh, graduation ceremony was great, uh, this year. Um, Emma, welcome. Um, looking forward to working with you, uh, and you'll love Gasport Elementary School as well. So, um it's uh hard to believe that we're just a few days out of the end of school because it's been very busy this week. So, summer school began uh for high school students for credit recovery uh on Wednesday and we have um many students working uh to recover credits in both
018math and language arts. Um and so we have teachers and staff working hard with them. And then we have students that are attending at Spencer Elementary School um to uh be prepared and to retake their I read three uh exams. And so we're excited uh for those students to recapture that credit and also to pass their test uh for i3. So that's beginning uh next Monday and Tuesday. We will have um many many of our middle school and high school staff that are coming in uh to work on with their uh departments and PLC groups um and they are um focusing on their curriculum maps and the work that they're going to be doing um to get prepared for next year. So, Mrs. Breedlove and I will be at the middle school and high school
019checking in on them, providing supports, resources as they're preparing for next year. So those folks um it's voluntary to do that. They get paid uh through our federal grants. So we provide stipens for uh teachers that are attending and between the middle school and high school uh we have 50 staff members that are coming in next Monday and Tuesday. So, uh, it continues to to be very busy even though we finished. Um, but but things are, uh, going well so far as we start the summer. So, thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Taylor. Uh, now, next on our agenda, we have the superintendent report. >> Again, congratulations to our graduates. Uh, commend all of them for their work and, uh, and their families and the efforts they put into them. and watching them walk across

Uh she sat in my wife's classroom at Edgewood. So I I'm we're doing a full circle moment here where I'm sending my student back to Edgewood and now I'm getting my wife's student to come to Spencer Owen. So I wish you the best of luck and wish Robert the best of luck as
021well. So uh also congratulations or thanks rather to the Owen news uh for your efforts. I know you're still working on it to get the uh senior edition of the uh newspaper printed so that we can mail those to our seniors at home and uh they we make sure they get a copy of all the uh the inserts of their pictures and that memorabilia for them to hold on to. Appreciate that very much and also good luck tonight. Uh I know they are competing right now. Uh the boys track team at regional, those kids that have advanced. And also congratulations to our girls 4 by8 4x400 relay team earlier in the week that set a new school record. I believe if I remember correctly, they dropped it by 3 seconds. Um I think so. >>
022And seven to nine, right? Did it go from 9 seconds to seven? >> Okay. And and the record was set in 1987. just a few years ago. Just a few >> not that long ago, right, Chris? >> Uh, couple other things real quickly. Uh, again, uh, thank you to the board members who are going to attend the legal conference on June the 9th. I know we've got uh some members that are signed up for that with Indiana School Board Association and then I believe legal council is as well. And then also looking forward to our teachers who will be attending the June 12th uh professional development conference conference that's being put on by uh the the service center at McCormix Creek State Park. Uh we have several uh positive uplifting speakers uh just to kind
023of try and end the summer without without much heavy burden to think about. So, Joe Sanalippo and a who is a national motivational speaker for schools and then uh also uh a nationally recognized comedian who also happens to be a school teacher and I'm sorry her name escapes me but uh we're looking forward to that and all of our staff that have chosen to sign up for that and go attend that as well. So, but uh that is all I have. Okay. >> Thank you very much, Superintendent Klene. Uh does anybody uh so actually uh I forgot I I now work across the hall from school uh school board lawyer. Um public comment uh on any item uh supposed to now occur before adjournment. So uh we need to make that adjustment because it's supposed
024to happen during the meeting. Um and when we adjourn it's after the meeting. So, does anybody wish to make any public comment this evening? Okay. All right. Oh. Oh, you do. Oh, sorry. I just wanted to know she's already spoken to. >> Thank you. >> Okay. All right. Uh, at this time I'd entertain a motion on adjournment. >> Move to adjourn. >> Thank you very much, Liz. Do I have a second? >> Thank you. Oh, got Rick. All right. Uh, at this time, everybody who's in favor of adjournment, please raise your right hand. Motion passes 7 to zero. We are now adjourned. Our next meeting is June 11th, uh, here at central office at 700 p.m. Have a safe drive home, everybody.
