If you would introduce your pledge. So my pledge leaders are Tad Nicholson and Kaylee Jackson. So does cross country baseball and Kaylee does basketballiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. come out tonight and bring mom and dad and friends with you. So on school district Who came with you tonight? [laughter] Don't apologize. [laughter] We get there. Perfect. Thank you. Thanks. [applause] [snorts] Uh uh just a reminder board members, turn your mics on uh when you are speaking. Uh also members of the public as you present tonight uh especially Tom, make sure you get up get up to the microphone for us uh so the folks at home can hear hear you. Uh we

will start with a roll call here this evening. Uh Mark here. Chad here. Dina here. Rick here. Liz here. Jack virtually. Yep. Let the minutes reflect. Jack is here virtually and Derek is here. Uh that gives us seven members present. Uh and just a reminder to the board, we will be doing a roll call vote on all votes this evening with Jack being virtual. Okay. At uh every school board meeting, members of the public have uh two opportunities to provide public comment. The first is as it pertains to any uh particular agenda item and the second is on any uh item after we adjourn. Does anybody wish to make any public comment on any agenda items this evening? Okay. All right. None. We're heard. All right. Next, uh on our agenda here this evening, Roman

numeral three additions to the regular agenda. Excuse me. There are no additions for our agenda this evening. Okay. Okay. Next on the agenda is the consent agenda. Uh I would ask the board to approve the consent agenda which claim which uh contains rather items A through E uh for your approval. Okay. You've heard the request. Do I have a motion on that request? Move to approve. Thank you, Mark. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Dina. Okay. Um, any discussion? Okay. Hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. [snorts] Chad, yes. Dina, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, [clears throat] yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes. Seven to zero. Okay. Next on the agenda is the um you make a difference nominee. Uh we will have to suspend the you

make a difference nominee for this evening. Uh that individual is home with a uh a family member who has uh the flu. So thought better of having them come in this evening. Okay. Uh next on the agenda is the legislative update. I've uh given all the board members and I think it was available to the public there a legislative update. Uh just a quick reminder of where we're at with uh the Indiana legislative session. We are past the midway point. They are quickly approaching the end of the legislative session um which will end early this year. Um the [snorts] good news out of the legislature is that there are really only um a very few number of bills that have survived through the session that deal with education. think we might get a year of

a little bit of peace and quiet from the legislature for a change of new laws and regulations that we have to take up uh to make sure our policies are in in alignment with. Um, probably the the biggest ticket item um that I think is going to impact folks the most um is Senate Bill 78. Uh that would uh not allow students to have cell phones in school. Uh it would allow uh schools would either have to ban them from the building or have lock uh lockable devices for students to put their phones in. um which has a cost associated with it would be a potential impact for um for us to take up um for it is an election year uh for school board candidates and Senate Bill 25 is has passed both chambers.

Uh it specifies the order in which schoolboard candidates are listed on the ballot. uh would put um uh instead of it being alphabetically, it it would be in political order. Um so, a little bit of a change there for this fall on the ballot. And um last thing I'll mention is that uh or last two things uh coming up on Saturday, February 28th uh is the Owen County Chambers uh legislative breakfast 7:30 at Owen Valley Christian Fellowship. Uh the first one in January went really well. There were big big attendance uh to that. Uh and then uh the other legislative action event here is the Indiana School Boards Association State House Day. Uh that is taking place on February 17th and I believe Liz was and I will be in attendance. So um we still

have one more board member who could attend if you feel so moved to to attend that. I believe we have over 40 uh legislators who will be in attendance that day. So that is your legislative update for for this board meeting. Okay. Uh next is our Owen Valley Middle School student presidential AI competition presentation. Make sure the mic is green. There we go. Is this working right? It is. So um I don't know where to not squeal. So I think I think we just need to mute Jack. Okay. Is that better? So, um, back this fall, um, we received an invitation to, um, participate in what was called the presidential AI challenge, um, through Purdue University. And so I immediately went to, um, Mrs. Hayes, who teaches our computer science classes, and she does the

YES shop, uh, yes lab to see if there were any students that may potentially do this. And so she immediately sent an email, recommended DWHIP and Talon. So this is this is what Mrs. Hayes wrote about them and then I'm going to turn it over to them and let them talk about it. Um I I read their proposal after they sent it to Purdue and was just utterly amazed. Um well beyond I'm a pretty tech person, but this was even beyond me. So it was pretty impressed. But um Mrs. Hayes says that she's been impressed with these students um from the onset of the project. Talon is an amazing idea generator who can do great things with his interest in natural affinity for computer science. He is advanced computer science student due to his own

independent learning, a rare thing that we see in an eighth grader. DWIP is not only an excellent programmer already, but has uh always willing to help others. He spent hours on his own time working um on his project and polishing it to perfection. It's rare to find a student who is so gifted with a strong work ethic, but who is also so willing to help his peers. And so I'm going to turn it over to them and let them explain the project that they submitted. So here you go, boys. Okay, can we move to the table? You tell me when to Yeah, you can sit at the table. Yeah. Just grab another chair and [clears throat and cough] ASC violence detection with artificial intelligence. The idea originated with the for ASAC when we entered the

presidential AI challenge. The competition required a power AI powerful AIdriven solution to a community problem. This pushed us to think creativly creativly about the challenges students encounter. That's when we landed on addressing bullying and physical aggression in schools. We've learned that physical bullying often occurs in busy environments where it is difficult to detect every interaction. Security cameras record these moments, but [clears throat] they are rarely monitored live, meaning many incidents are only understood after the harm has occurred. This re this gap in real-time awareness shaped the problem ASE was designed to solve. What is ASC? ASC is a project constructed to examine how artificial intelligence could assist to identify patterns linked to physical aggression. It does not make decisions or define incidents. Rather, it highlights interaction that it recognizes as dangerous. The system is meant

to warn staff that a dangerous situation might be occurring in time to stop it. But why two models? As development progressed, it became evident that no single model could reliably interpret every environment. Instead, detection would require a different approach. This led to the pivotal move to create two complimentary models, each designed to interpret a different kind of scene. Highly concentrated, fastm moving environments in single one-on-one environments. After partitioning the project into two distinct categories, we decided to use skeleton extraction. The skeleton model focuses on the relations between body joints and bone vectors to understand motion energy. It evolved from a simple classifier into an architecture capable of recognizing 10 distinct actions. This technique referred to as an 11 head model. The extra head is for binary classification broadened asexability for complex scenes. The spatiotemporal model

analyzes pixel level motion over time by utilizing the R2+1 D18 architecture. By [clears throat] incorporating motion aware features within the training data, the model can distinguish between normal movement and potentially aggressive behavior. This model pro this model performed best when interactions are clear and involve many subjects, variables, and distinctions data and tools. ASC was developed using numerous external resources. With the cloud-based GPUs and collections of data sets from Kaggle, finding expansive and quality data became much easier. Additionally, with the help of chatbots, cone refinement and brainstorming took less time. All of these resources established a stable environment for experimentation and improvement. Unfortunately, developing these models was not an easy process. During experimentation, all of a sudden, the models became unstable and repetitively crashed. Witnessing two months of progress progress disappear, we realized how fragile this

stability was. After reconstructing the models, not only did they improve in stability, they turned out to be much more precise in detection. Developmental obstacles part two. Early in the process of rebuilding the skeletal model, we decided to pivot to an 11 head model. This method allowed the AI to essentially get the precision of 10 separate models. The extra head was for binary classification. Implementing this technique was not simple though. it far exceeded the complexity we which we prepared for. After numerous days of effort, we finally stabilized the model which resulted in extremely high accuracy. Ethicality and limitations. Throughout development, we realiz we recognize that AI even with low false positive rates must be applied cautiously in environments where slight errors cause intense consequences. After this insight, ASC was intentionally limited to assist awareness awareness rather

than automate judgment. This role is restricted ensuring that all decisions remain with faculty who have deep understand of context. Lessons learned during the progression and construction of the project. We learned several lessons, some of which are how progress often comes from steady refinement and dedication rather than sudden breakthroughs. Additionally, insight emerges through knowledge and how we adapt to obstacles and rethink our assumptions. These lessons reshape not only the model but also the perspective we have when approaching technology for future possibilities. Currently, ASC is a simple collection of two models that are able to identify violence. The ultimate goal of ASC is to be directly incorporated in security infrastructure, alert staff, and provide other necessary feedback. Special thanks to Miss Hayes. We'd like to explic explicitly thank Miss Hayes for going out of her way to

assist us in proper registration, refinement [clears throat] of the essay, and providing us with the necessary resources. Miss Hecman also helped. We would also like to appreciate Miss Hecman's assistance in constructing the essay for the presidential AI challenge submitt violence detection with artificial intelligence. So just to kind of sum up, so basically what they would do, and correct me guys if you go if I go when I go off when I go wrong, but they would use the current surveillance system that the school currently would have um because as they put it one day when I met with them, they said that it's very reactionary. So a lot of times we don't utilize the video system because we just can't sit in front of the video cameras looking at potential problems where it's usually looking

at problems after they have occurred. So what their system would actually do is and and our current system that we have actually does detect voice and audio currently. And so the AI system would actually detect where the a where the voice or the aggression is occurring whether it's bullying or a potential fight. And then and then staff members could actually respond after we've been notified immediately instead of having it occur as a reactionary. We could occur or we could respond in a in a um proaction um position instead. And your models, correct me if I'm wrong, were 97% accurate when they were run. Is that correct? Wow. I'll turn it over to you guys for any questions. Absolutely. So to go in a little bit more in depth on how it works. Um so it

takes the what a video is is pictures and pictures. So what it takes is it takes the video from the camera, inserts it into uh its own model, inserts it into the first model, and then what that model does is it changes it to skeletons and looks at the bone vectors and the bones in general and figures out it makes it easier for it to process. And then it goes to the next model. Next model uh decides whether hey should this be flagged or should it not be flagged. It reached a 97% uh accuracy. So I'd say it works pretty good. So this has been submitted to Purdue for competition. Correct. Yes. So do you have to present at Purdue or is this being judged by someone and then you're going to find out? Uh,

I'm pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's going to be judged. Okay. And then we're going to find out. So, if you are a award winner or recipient of recognition, what's next? So, what's next? So, if we're good enough, we get brought up to a state level in which that state level would offer um what's it called? A certificate and then it goes up to regional. What does regional give? It's an additional certificate and the opportunity opportunity to go to Washington DC on a three-day trip. Yeah. And then last one's national. You win national. You get $10,000 for each uh team member. So, did this come out of Mrs. Hayes maker space class or computer science or was this just an interest and you guys took it? Um, this came out of me

and Dip just like in computers. We opened up Virtual Studio Code by Microsoft and got to work. Um, we coded the majority of it, but we did have to debug it. It was way too long to debug. So, we did use AI models to help debug that, but it all worked. All right. So, I'm going to ask the ultimate question. Let's fast forward what, five years from now. You're going to be at Purdue. You're going to be at Rose Holman. You gonna What's What's the plan? What's the next steps after school? Um, after school, I'm looking to go to MIT for computer science and hopefully get a job somewhere security related, probably making stuff for security. Where do you want to go? I also would go to MIT or Purdue and then would go to

a job in the AI category. Thank you both. Is there any comments or questions from the board or say this takes off is this a software program that could then be used at different schools all over the US? Yeah. Is it in an an app format or just computer software? Right now it's in a py file. Okay. So that means it's been coded in Python. Um so it's not an executable, but if you do have a terminal on your computer, you can run the entire code on the in the file directory. We do have videos that you can put into it and test it right there. It'll give you uh it shows you the accuracy and the whether it should not be flagged or whether it should. So I'm like super impressed. [laughter] So um

question about the accuracy. So at 97% what is it missing? Well, AI can't really get everything correct. And since violence detection is a very complex subject because there's so many movements and arrangements of limbs, the 3% is it's missing is due to just not enough time to train and not enough just precision. How an AI works in general is it's a brain if you want to speak of it like that. It has bias functions whether the bias function tells it hey um which one should we go for? Which option of the two? It gives us its thinking and everything. Um it's replication of a human brain but more like better. So, [clears throat] it's obviously going to have some uh problems because it's not perfect, but yeah. Have you uh registered or copyright or have

a patent for your software? Nothing so far. Do you plan to? We might in the future level this up into like a deployable app that schools can use, but currently it's just two AI models, so we can't really do much right now, but it has the opportunity to go a long shot. Um, if we really did want it to deploy in other schools, we would do have to do some major refining to it and adding things, making it executable, stuff like that. All right. Anything else from the board? Okay. Thank you both very much. Give a round of applause. Great job. [applause] THANK you very much, guys. Super impressive. Okay. All right. We're going to move on on our agenda here to old business. Excuse me. [clears throat] There are no old business items for

this evening. Okay. [snorts] Uh, next on to new business. Item one. Item one is the request to accept a grant from the community foundation for Owen Valley Middle School for electricity and magnetism science kits. That dollar value is $1,38.17. All right. You've heard the request. Do I have a motion on that request? Thank you, Dina. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Rick. Is there any discussion? Right. Hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dina, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes. Seven to zero. Uh item two are uh donation requests. Uh before the board are three donations I would ask you to accept on behalf of uh different ordin or different groups within the district. Uh the first one is a

monetary donation [clears throat] in the amount of $6,000 from Shiloh Wesley uh United Methodist Church for use with school accounts for lunch uh for insufficient meal accounts. Your second request is a [clears throat] $1,000 donation from Jean Troll uh Troll rather. Jean and her friends have been wanting to support local causes for children and this would go to Backpack Buddies. And then your third request for donation acceptance is again from the Shiloh Wesley Church in the amount of $1,500 uh for continued support of Backpack Buddies. All right. Uh is there any objection to taking them all together? No objection. Okay. Uh all right. You've heard the request to uh accept the donations uh items A, B, and C. Under donations. Do I have a motion on that request? Move to approve. Thank you very much,

Liz. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Rick. Is there any discussion? Okay, hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dina, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes seven to zero. Okay. Next up is uh requesting items for surplus. Uh the items listed before you from Owen Valley High School, I would ask you to approve as surplus so that they may be may be discarded or uh stored or even sold for uh further uh compensation and use back at the high school. Okay. Is there any objection to take them all together? No objection. Okay. All right. You've heard the request to declare items A, B, C, and D on the agenda um at OVHs surplus. Do I have a motion on that

request? Thank you very much, Mark. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Liz. [snorts] Is there any discussion? Okay, hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dina, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes seven to zero. Okay. Item four. Uh item four is the request to approve the cosmetology pathway for Owen Valley High School. This was uh presented in our previous meeting and we would ask uh for official approval of this so that we would move be able to move forward with uh creating position controls for the position as and uh other items. Okay, we've heard the request. I have a motion on that request. Move to approve. We got Rick and Liz. There's a second. [snorts] Properly moved and seconded. Is

there any discussion? Yeah, I just wanted to um [clears throat] double check. I know we're approving the um pathway this evening and then I'm assuming the next step will be to um develop a uh position description as well as look into a job posting for hiring the instructor. Yes, I'll come back to you in the March board meeting. You approve [clears throat] this tonight with a request for the position control and then also the job the detailed job description that would then be posted uh for the position. So this is kind of our first step to before I start doing anything else. So [snorts] So this is so this is the curricular approving the curricular addition correct. Okay. Okay. Any further discussion? Okay. Hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad,

yes. Dena, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes seven to zero. Next on the agenda, item five, field trips. Uh, excuse me. The item five before you is a request to approve uh overnight or out of state field trips. Each of those listed there, A, B, and C, I would ask for approval. And again, uh letter A is an overnight trip for the wrestling team to travel to semi-state in Evansville. Uh this upcoming weekend, the 13th through the 15th, we have eight wrestlers that have qualified. And then uh letter B is an overnight field trip for wrestling team finals at Evansville the 19th and the 21st. This would be for freshman and sophomores uh that they would travel back to Evansville. And then the third item is the overnight

trip that I reached out to each of you individually to approve or to make you aware of with the FFA leadership team uh having traveled to Trfalger on the 6th through the 8th of February uh prior to this board meeting. Okay. Is there any objection to taking all three together? No objection. Okay. All right. You've heard the request for items A, B, and C. Do I have a motion on that request? Move to approve. Thank you, Rick. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Mark. All right. Uh, been properly moved and seconded. Is there any discussion? Okay. Hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dena, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes. Derek is a yes. Motion passes seven to zero. All right. Next on the agenda, Roman

numeral 8, personnel. Uh, as I've always asked, if it's the pleasure of the board, I would ask you to take under personnel letters A, B, C, and D in one motion, or if there's a specific item that you would like to vote on individually, we would do that as we can do that as well. All right. Are there any objections to taking them all together this tonight? No objection. Okay. All right. All right. You further request for uh items A, B, C, and D under personnel. Do I have a motion on that request? Move to approve. Thank you, Dina. Do I have a second? Second. Thank you, Liz. Is there any discussion? Okay. Hearing none, we'll proceed to a roll call vote. Uh Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dena, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, yes.

Okay, Derek is a yes. Motion passes seven to zero. Okay. Uh, we will start board comments with Liz tonight. Mark was already got his mic. He was Yeah. Yeah. Start with Liz tonight. [laughter] Um, well, I'd like to thank the community, the Shiloh Wesley United Methodist Church and, uh, Jean Troll for the Backpack Buddies program donations. And then, um, I was surprised to see Brian Crow on there from retirement. So, good luck on your retirement. You'll be missed. That's all. Okay, thank you Liz. Rick, thanks for the presentation. That was an excellent presentation. And uh also thanks for the donations. And I guess that's it. Okay. Thank you, Rick. We'll go. Jack, you want to have any comment tonight? You know I do. I want to thank for the presentation. wish the best. [clears throat]

Oh, Jack. Is everything okay? When you turned your head, we couldn't hear you. [laughter] All for all the donations. Chapel, the community foundation. Just keep on keeping on. They they are always there to support our students and uh I really appreciate that. Good luck to our wrestlers state. Congratulations, Mr. And while we're talking about keep it on, keep it on. There's somebody in the corporation that it's easy to forget just how much she does. But uh not only does she do it, she does it well and she always does it with a great big smile. And I'd like to thank Chris for everything she does. And that's all I got. [laughter] You you you got her uh attention. You got her attention. So thank you Jack Dena. I would also like to thank for their

presentation. Um I was in all and also want to say to confusion [laughter] for saying that their knowledge is exemplary and um I know those [snorts] two young men are are going to go far in the AI world and computer science. Also, I'm thankful for to everyone for um the work that's been done to bring the cosmetology pathway to the high school. I think that's [clears throat] just going to be a huge benefit to the students who um are truly interested in that uh pathway. And it be exciting for them to come out and be ready to uh go into the workforce and potentially start their own business. Um, and then I'd also like to recognize Brian Crow on his retirement. Brian is [snorts] I don't know how many years he has with the corporation,

but he's um wore a lot of hats and impacted a lot of students. He's very welld, very well respected, and um he will be I believe we're double checking. I'm pretty sure it's 34 years if I remember. Yes. Yep. 34 years. So, okay. Thank you, Dina Chad. 34 years. I think that I think I was in middle school this first year. He was my football coach used to come out and go crazy. Congratulations. Okay. Did Mr. Did their principal understand all those terms as well? Okay. No. No. Okay. All right. I did have a question about the R21. [laughter] Take it away, Mark. All right. I will just say since you guys have all done a great job covering everything. All I'm going to add is an apology that I will have to miss the

next meeting. I had purchased pacer tickets for an entire family group and it's a rare opportunity to get to go with my kids and grandkids. So, I'll miss you next month. It'll be rude to Pacers to lose. [laughter] All right. Thank you. Um [snorts] Oh, yeah. Um so um to our um very first uh you know of our year-long student presentations and hearing from that was uh we're starting off with a bang um there because I that'll be tough to beat here. Uh but good luck to both of those um middle school students there Dwip and and Talon as they I agree have lots of different steps along the way there. Um and uh also want to echo on the um donations, you know, especially that food service account. Uh that that was a big

donation that'll go a long way to making sure uh kids have lunch and and have breakfast. So I appreciate that. Um and I don't think I have any other announcements. So thank you uh everybody showed out today. Uh we will now move on to administrator comments. Very short list. Tom, if you want to step up to the mic there. I'm going to turn it over for a second because one of ours, Mr. Davis, is here and um you guys approved one of his leaves and I kind of want him to explain. I know you had a memo, but I wanted to give him the opportunity to go ahead and explain what what he's going to do because I think it's a great opportunity um for our students as well as for him. So, uh first

off, [clears throat] thank you for approving our MHS grant for electricity kits. Appreciate that very much. We we're lacking some supplies. Any little bit we can get help. So, thank you. And also, thank you for approving my two-eek leave. I was willing to bite take it and take it all personally if I had to, but um I I talked to I went inside Mr. Arthur's uh office and said, "Hey, I need to talk to you." And he pushed his chair back like he thought I was quitting. [laughter] Nothing like that. Of course, it was the beginning of the year of school, so not a good time to say that to your principal, I guess. Uh but uh I've been blessed over the past eight years. There [clears throat] is a couple that has enjoyed taking

me all over the world to help me experience all of this for my students. We started off in the Gopagos for two weeks. We then spent um last year, a year before, we spent three weeks in South Africa on safari being chased by elephants. Lions. This is all personal stuff. So, it's not like we went with any groups. This is all private. So, we were up close and personal, standing next to cheetahs were walking beneath me, right next to me. And long story short, I spent a month in Purdue last Peru last summer traveling the Amazon, traveling all over the mountains and everything. All these experiences I've brought back to my classrooms. If it if it wasn't uh high school when I taught high school, I've spent my middle school experiences. Everywhere I've gone relates

to my science. And this year we're going to Iceland. We're going to spend two and a half weeks transversing Iceland looking at waterfalls, um volcanoes. I will actually get to scuba dive over the Mid-Atlantic ridge. I will scuba dive from the north the North American plate over to the Eurasian plate and get out of the water because Iceland is a huge spreading center. It's getting nothing but bigger. It's it's actually two different plates because of the spreading center that goes through it. Um we're going [clears throat] to visit some Viking sites. My ancestors were Norwegian. That's one one plus. But um this couple has enjoyed nothing more than taking myself and my family for the most part around the world so that we can all experience it. And they love the fact that I bring

it back to my classes. I don't keep it personally. I don't keep it for me. I use it everywhere I go. And my students sometimes probably get tired of hearing me talking about the Gopagos Africa, but um Peru, but you can't you can't replace. I can get all kinds of PDs in Indianapolis to listen to other scientists talk about what I see, but it's not the same to relate to my students as being there. I mean, they can see the excitement in my eyes when I start talking about the goalpost snake that crawled across my foot. Cuz down there, you can't touch the animals. you have to stay six feet from them like co because they're endemic. Uh so it's it's it's been a blessing. I truly truly thank you guys. Uh again, I was

willing to take the personal time, but let me have the personal leave and still keep my time um is a blessing for myself and I I I'm very I'm beyond thankful for you guys. Thank you. Uh we have a board meeting August 27th um six days after I get back from my month trip. Uh, I remember I'm going to Iceland and we're going to actually sail over uh Canada over back to Alaska, then come home. Oh, okay. We're going to go see I get to see the effects of global warming, the ice sheets, everything up there. So, that's all stuff we teach in eighth grade, pollution. I teach volcanics in seventh grade. Um, everything I'll see, I'll bring back into one of my three classes, seven, eight or earth science. Well, at the next meeting

that you can make it to after all your travels, I hope to see you back here. Absolutely. I'd love that. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. to share with us as well. Thank you very much. So, uh, anything else? Well, I don't know how I top between DWIP and and Talon and Mr. Davis and their opportunities, but, um, we we are getting ready for the Patriot Games. Patriot Games is just a way for the kids to break a little winter monotony. Um, so we'll have, um, Uno tournaments and we'll have checkers and Mario Kart going on next week during um, Patriot Hour. Um, but as you can tell, like we've got some great things going on at the middle school. In November, I had the opportunity to meet Character Strong, which is a SEAL program, and they do

some they they're working on career connections with kids. And so, um, during that conversation, when I met some individuals, they asked me to do a national conference. So, we did a virtual national conference u that I actually it was pre-recorded and we presented at that um a couple of weeks ago during um C National Counselors Week, which it was actually um played last week um to counselors all across the country where we shared about the career connections that we're making, helping middle schoolers make just with the little things just to give them exposure so when they get to high school they kind of have a pathway. Um we talked about our IU trip and our IV tech IVTech trip. um that we took in November with the kids and and I I remember Mr. Davis

sharing one story when we got back from that that we got back there was one girl that said, "I know exactly what I'm going to do now. It's going to be psychology. I'm going to do the ASAP program at IvyTech um so I can get um in my associates degree in 11 months. Then I'm going to transfer to IU. So, we're ready to go." And this was an eighth grader that said this. So, now we get to set the stage in high school. So, to to set her up for that. And so those are kind of things we talked about on this um on this conference and so um like I said I think we've got some amazing things happening and so so just really proud of everyone and their hard work. Okay, thank you

very much. top that Chris Samk not top that um I did want to reiterate I mean I I had no clue what those boys were saying but it sounded very impressive and I I like the idea behind it but wow you should have read their book I don't think I could do that um but I did want to acknowledge I mean because Becky Hayes Dena they've been here forever is fantastic and I've had the opportunity to work with her when the yes club was just an idea on paper and to see it come and you know from working with architects at IU to getting grants and then ordering things and through COVID and then we put tables together with mask you know just she she is just something else and I want to be like

her when I grow up because she I mean she just she doesn't slow down. I mean she just go goes and I admire her very much. So, I'm I'm glad the boys had that opportunity. And um let's see. And Jack, you made me speechless. And I don't think anybody who knows me would use that adjective to describe me. So, thank you very much. It's it's my uh it's my privilege and honor to be trusted with with what I've been able to do. So, um and I surrounded by some pretty wonderful people. So, I think that has a lot to do with it. So, thank you and yourself included. So, um, and that's all I have. All right. Thank you, Chris. All right. [snorts] That wraps up the administrator comments. We will move on to the

superintendent reports. Uh, just a couple of items. Again, uh, thank you very much to all those that have donated the funds for our backpack buddies and, um, uh, the food service accounts. It just never ceases to amaze me as we go year to year now that the consistency of those groups and the the committedness of those groups to do those things. So, um, thank you again for that. Uh, again, congratulations to Mr. Crowe. I'll show my age, Mr. Cooper because a hot minute ago, Brian and I were one of the four athletic directors that built the middle school wit conference uh about 30 years ago. So, uh it's hard for me to believe that he's uh had a good run and an excellent teacher and uh a lot of uh a lot of knowledge and

expertise that we'll uh hopefully be able to reach out to when we want to, but I know he will uh be sorely missed. So again, congratulations to him. Um, good luck to our show choir high school and middle school programs as they travel to Planefield uh tomorrow evening and then Saturday evening. We'll be trying to get up to see them uh since the weather's now cooperating a little bit and we'll see how they do. I know they've been working very diligently and very hard uh for their programs. Also, congratulations to the girls basketball team on their sectional run. um was uh sad to see them uh uh fall out of the program or fall out of the sectional semi-final last Friday evening, but uh watching those kiddos uh there's a bright future ahead for them

as a young group that's going to continue to mature and grow and uh go into next year. So, good luck to them and then also good luck to the boys program. They'll be uh getting ready for uh sectional play here in a couple weeks. And then, as I alluded to earlier in the meeting, good luck to our uh eight young men that'll be traveling down to Evansville for semi-state uh wrestling and possible qualification for state finals back in Indianapolis. So, also [clears throat] for the board, um I [snorts] do have, we talked about it in the legislative update, I have a sample of what could be, what might be depending on, uh the bills that are passing of something that would be used for cell phone storage. Uh we've these will be available for you

and anybody that wants to come and see them here at central office. Uh this is just one sample and we've also talked about with the principles uh just the use of our lockers uh for that process as well. Uh but these these are here for you to look at as well. So these are these do not have a magnet. There's one that has a magnet. These have velcro. So the premise is it's hard to open these in a classroom, but in the event that you needed a phone in an emergency, you could open them without have a magnet to open those. So, but again, we'll keep our eye on those uh legislative bills and what they're going to be thrust upon ush with that as well. I know Liz and Derek will be meeting with

legislators on the 17th and then I have a separate meeting on the 18th with the legislators uh at 7 o'clock that morning in Indianapolis uh to give them my thoughts on a couple of bills in particular. So, but that is all I have. Okay. Thank you [snorts] very much, Superintendent Quin. At this time, I'd entertain a motion on adjournment. Move to adjourn. Thank you very much, Rick. Is there a second? [snorts] All right, Dena. I was going to say nobody wants to go home. Um, Rick and Dina seconded. Uh, all well, proceed to a roll call vote. Mark, yes. Chad, yes. Dina, yes. Rick, yes. Liz, yes. Jack, and Derek is a yes. We are now adjourned. Uh, does anybody wish to make any public motion passes seven to zero, I should say that first.

Uh, does anybody wish to make any public comment on any non-aggenda items this evening? Okay. Uh, everybody stay safe out there. Our next meeting is a very special meeting, by the way, uh for board member uh Cooper and board member Morgan. March 12th is our birthday. Oh, so we I expect a birthday party at the next board meeting, please. Mark and I were talking. I felt like I was in trouble. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. [laughter] But very special board meeting that uh falls on our birthday this year. So, yeah, you're going to miss my birthday party. Thanks, Mark. All right, everybody, be safe. Going home.
