All right, welcome to our June uh school board meeting. We will begin with our pledge and our prayer. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Let's pray. Dear heavenly father, we uh just come before you this evening. Just thankful for the opportunity to be able to be here and just thankful for um the year the past year you've given us and for um all the teachers and administrators and everyone that put effort into the kids' lives and just pray that you bless them for their efforts. Pray that you be with us this summer, protect the kids and uh each and everyone and bring everyone back safe next year to school.

Um we just pray that you do with all the activities that happen throughout the year that you keep everyone safe. just pray that you'd be with us in this meeting. Help us to make wise decisions and all we do in Jesus name. Amen. >> All right. First of all, we're going to do our approval of the agenda, but we have a few changes to look at. Um, and they are in red on your agendas. So the first one is adding uh letter E under the consent agenda, the disposal buyback program. We are removing letter F under the consent agenda. And under resignations under G, we are adding number four. Under recommendations, um letter H, we are adding number seven. And on the coaches roster I we are adding number two the winter coaches roster. I

think that is it. So is there a motion to approve the agenda with the additions and corrections? >> I'll make the motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carries. Next we have our minutes from our May 12th regular session meeting. Those were sent to you. So hopefully you had a chance to look those over. Is there a motion to approve the minutes? >> I'll make a motion. I'll second it. >> Um any discussion, corrections, additions to the minutes? >> All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Uh public comments. I'm not thinking I see anybody here to speak tonight. All right. So, we'll skip over that and then we'll begin our consent agenda. Um, starting with our payment vouchers and our fund reports that we've uh received through our email.

Uh, we do have some bigger payment voucher ones and Don has pointed those out to us. Uh, like our van that we approved last month for purchase is on there. We have renewals for things like powers school and aptagy and just some of these things that come each summer like this at this time. We had some curriculum and then we had our really big old national payment. So, um Dylan, did you have anything you wanted to add to that for us? >> No, that's just what I highlighted. >> Okay. Thank you for letting us know about that, too. All right. Any other questions or about the the fund reports or the vouchers or anything Mr. Mccclure wanted to add there? >> No, not unless anybody had any specific questions. Like you said, Don kind of

hit the hit the big ones that might have stood out. >> Okay. All right. We're going to move on to our donations. We have a few of those. Our first one was the food fight lunch program at Park Community Church in Bluffton. and um they gifted us $1,000 for the the negative lunch accounts and I know this is something they do regularly so we want to thank them for that. Um I think that helps out quite a bit and so it's a very nice thing that they do. Uh number two there we have our bike helmets for third graders. Um Officer Mendoza I believe applied for this and got a grant um through the ACCF. So we're very thankful to them for awarding that grant. So, our third graders can get bike helmets. And then

we had BPA donations. And I know you probably saw a list that there was a very long list of donors for that. So, we're very thankful to the community and families that wanted to businesses that wanted to support our BPA students who went to nationals. Nashville. >> Yeah. Nashville. Yes. So yeah, they had a great trip and yeah, I just echo what you said as far as thanks to uh those individuals and also also the businesses that made it made it possible for the kids to do that. >> Yeah, we had a nice long list and um if you are listening, you donated, thank you so much for doing that so those students could enjoy their time there and learn a lot while they were there as well. Uh letter C, we have uh grants.

We had one other grant here, the fourth grade um was awarded a grant from the ACCF and for their lobaly Jean Porter Museum uh field trip and that was $500 for that grant. So we thank ACCF once again for awarding that for our fourth graders. Any Am I going too quick? Is there anything that anyone wants to add? Sorry. >> Okay. All right. Next, we have our overnight out of state trips. And our FFA officer retreat is coming up June 28th through 30th and that is in Nashville at Brown County. So, they'll be there planning their year from what I understand. Next, we have our disposal and our buyback program, and this has to do with our iPads and technology. So, definitely handing that over to Mr. Snyder. This is something um we've done the

last couple years. Um two parts to this though. The first part is the iPad buyback and community sale. Um we've got part of quite a few more iPads to sell back this year because of our move to thank you for that. Um once we get the iPads back, we put out a uh a community link to where we can buy our iPads. Um, and the second part of this is we have since we have some extra iPad cases that are also part of their house. >> Greg, can you talk just a little bit about uh for their benefit um some of the ones we're going to potentially roll back to elementary? Am I speaking correctly when I say that? Turn that over to you to talk about that just a bit so they're aware. >>

Yeah. Um well, you know, as a freshman, we're only um iPad. So we're we're bumping that down to some elementary grades down. I believe um second grade and fifth grade we get newer iPads but okay thank you and I'm sure you'll update us on that later on as to what's going on with that. All right. Uh moving on. Uh we're going to go to letter G, the resignations that we have. There are four of those tonight. And our first one is Miss Hannah Wellman, who is an elementary special needs assistant, who I believe is just going back to school to further her career in education. Um and then we have Mrs. Teresa Brown, middle school, high school special education assistant, who I know has been with us for a long time and done a wonderful

job in the special education area and we hate to lose her, but I believe she's moving on to a different career path at this time. Um, and then Mr. uh Donald Saren, he was our varsity assistant basketball coach. And lastly, we have Mr. Lance Busy who is our E2020 teacher who is pursuing something outside of education. So his resignation is also on there. Anyone else uh would like to comment or >> Yeah, I would just again offer my specific thanks uh to these four individuals. Um again, Miss Welman and uh down the elementary and Mrs. Brown has been with us for for a long time and appreciate her efforts for all those years like you said. And um Don along with Coach Adams, you know, kind of hopped in late in the game there back

in uh we approved that at the the November board meeting prior to practice starting the following Monday. Uh and then Lance, who's an AC grad, has been back here and um I know with his new opportunities pursuing, still hoping to have potential to be helping with baseball next spring. Uh so hopefully that'll still work out uh in his schedule to allow that. Uh but appreciate his efforts with our E2020 students and uh all the work going on in there. So just uh a big thanks to all four of those individuals for their efforts for us on behalf of the just all the kids in the community here. So appreciate appreciate them very much. >> All right. Um moving on, we have uh some seven recommendations for hiring. So, our first one is Miss Lily Hurst,

and this will be a full-time custodial position that she will be fulfilling. Uh, next we have Miss Mary Gerard. Um, she will be our high school girls golf coach. Some people might know her as Mary Jones, but something just changed over the weekend. She's now Mary Gerard. Um, Miss Cassidy Failer, a high school girls volleyball coach. U, Mrs. Christine Wagner, a seventh grade volleyball coach. Miss Alyssa Kyper, volunteer middle school volleyball coach. Mr. Tyler Gills, volunteer boys tennis coach. And then we also have Mr. Bla1 Brooks as a high school boys basketball assistant coach. So, lots of coaching in there. Um, and we welcome them in those positions. Um, I don't know if you have anything, Miss Wler. No, the only thing I would add, again, like you said, it took me a little bit

to get used to seeing Mary Gerrod instead of Mary Jones. And uh Miss Cassidy Failer, I'm 95% sure is not Failer anymore after this past weekend. I pretty sure she got married this weekend as well. Uh I apologize. I'm not aware of her >> new last name, but uh >> Stevens. So, Miss Cassidy Failer, who I believe will be going by Coach Stevens probably next fall or this summer yet when she's working with the uh working with the ladies in volleyball program. So, but yeah, excited about all them. Several of these have been um in these roles in some form or fashion before. They come to volleyball where Christy has maybe been a volunteer and um Lily's been working like you said in the part-time role and uh Teresa in addition to her role as

a middle school high school special ed assistant was also picked up some custodial hours here and there. So, uh Lily will be picking some of those up and appreciate her her work in that area. So, thank you. >> All right. Now we move on to our coaches rosters which with these additions that um will hopefully be approved then those rosters are adjusted as well. First we have our fall 2627. I think that's all up to date and then our winter 2627 which I didn't have a chance to look at since that was added but I'm going to just assume that we've got um Mr. Brooks added on to that one at that point. >> Heather, can we take that one separate? I'll have to assume on that one. >> Yes. Yes. Thank you. >> I

think I do too. That was ever removed. >> The winter one. Correct. Just >> All right. I'm sorry. I forgot to ask about that. >> We don't let them off there. >> All right. So, we'll just wait on on the winter roster. So, um looking at our consent agenda then A through I minus number two on I. Um is there any discussion or questions? Anything anyone wants to go back over for those? All right. Is there a motion to accept the consent agenda? >> I'll make the motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Okay. Motion carries. And now we will move down to our winter roster for 2627. Um, is there a motion to accept the winter roster? Second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Abstain. >> I motion carries. >> All

right. Moving on to our board action items. We have our approval to purchase and we've got three things here we'll take separately in three different categories. So, first we have our buses and I think Mr. Weber is probably going to update us on what the purchase is going to look like there. >> Yeah, we had looked at the bid for two different buses off the stage yesterday. Uh the one that says 54 that is actually um that one we are not going to because point of us out there and stuff. So that price does not include a straight in on that one. You can see what the bids were. And my recommendation is and then cash that's just we are trading the money 72. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve um the

bus purchases? >> Can I ask one quick question? >> Do we do we have any other IC buses in our fleet currently? >> We have got one, two, three, three others. >> Okay. >> The uh we've got primarily Thomas buses. >> Thomas on this Thomas is taking the build time about 12 months. They're concerning the 2027 emissions upgrade. So they're basically wanting to add us add 20,000 to it. They say the rest and you don't need that 20,000 back. I'm just not saying there's an extra 20,000 back. I understand what they're saying. There's 20 the federal government right now 2027 is coming out. The others say we can do it from order to build in six months. Builders are safe. there's no problem you know hitting that promise to say this we don't think we

will uh EPA talking about pushing that back another year and stuff but that's not all that deal so they have to come back and say we're going to we're going to put an extra 20,000 in if you don't use it and give it back to I'm not comfortable that >> perfect thank All right. Is there a motion to approve the purchase of the buses? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second it. >> Any other questions or clarifications that in Lyn would like to ask? >> Okay. All in favor? >> I opposed. >> All right. at 792,000 66, >> but we take good care of them so they last a long time >> and thank you for taking good care of them. All right. Um, next we will move on to the kitchen ovens. And

I Mrs. Ed, you do you have anything you want to share about the kitchen oven purchases? >> Sure. Um, about two weeks before school was ending, one of our ovens went out and completely wasn't working. So, the finished are awesome. We really had to pull this all together. Okay, we're going to have to take turns swapping out food because we were cooking for at least 800 students every day. So, that was fun to try to without an extra oven. Um, maintenance team was amazing. They came in and fixed it over the summer, which I did not want them to be in our kitchen making a mess while we were trying to trying to cook for the students. They came in and fixed it. The company that I'm deciding or recommending that we purchase from this

shirt food service commitment of the clothes, they were the ones offering us like a tradein value that they will take our oven tax and give us 3500 on top of whatever other rebates we're getting. them by purchasing four total double oven units. So, it's one unit that has two ovens connected to it. So, that's one unit. They're willing to do the buyback program for us and other companies were not willing to do it. They were telling us we had to take them and try to dispose of them on our own, which can be a little bit tricky because they're heavy. So, this company was amazing and they also came in lower than all the other companies when it came to the price of the others and in everything. They came out and looked at it.

They were amazing. Absolutely. highly recommend that we purchase from them, but we definitely need ovens. They're about what we can pinpoint and they're at least 24 years old. So, I do have kitchen. So, I would say we definitely have used them for the max capacity. >> So, we're due first in the >> Okay, sounds good. Sounds like you've done the research. So, thank you. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve the purchase of the kitchen ovens? I'll make the motion. >> Sorry. >> Is are there any questions um for Mrs. Everett to ask about the ovens? Anything further we want to know or clarify? I know you guys have all seen the quote. So, >> and how what does this come out of as far as >> it comes out of her fund.

>> Okay. >> Yes. >> That's what the the lunch fund, right? >> Okay. That's what that's how it works. That's what I would ask. So, >> I even had enough to say that. Thanks. I didn't. >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Okay. Motion carries. The kids will eat. >> Thank you. All right. Um, next we have our cases for the new high school devices. Um, I know we had some discussion and tabled this last time, uh, because there was talk about insurance and cases and I think maybe one of you would like to speak about that. And >> so, Greg and I have continued to debate this again. And as Heather just mentioned, the discussion last month was the cost of that insurance plan was 125 to $140, give or take

a little bit on there uh over the course of the uh the life of the the laptops. Um close to about a 20 about a fourth about 25% of what the replacement cost would be for one of them. Um, so we had had some debate as we did a little bit last time. What were we better off doing? Going ahead and purchasing that insurance. So we just have that covered or essentially selfinsuring. Uh, so our recommendation, which is why you're just seeing the recommendation for the uh the MacBook covers or cases tonight is that uh we feel it's a good decision uh to just kind of self-insure. Um, as far as that goes, uh, believe these devices are going to be pretty sturdy. Uh, especially at the high school level, kids tend to take pretty

good care of. Now, we know there will be some accidents, uh, that we'll have to work through. Um, occasionally we have some accidents that were maybe not quite so accidental, if that makes sense. And then if that's the case, then those get worked through with principles and and those things to work on a payment plan for those. But we do anticipate that we would probably have some costs we have to cover for legitimate accidents, things that happen. Um, but we still think we'll come out potentially potentially a lot ahead. Uh, there is a chance that, uh, we could come out a little bit behind if that happens, but bottom line, we'd have to have fair to say about 25% of our kids essentially destroy a laptop, uh, which doesn't happen very often. Um, so we

think we'll we'll be in good shape with that. It's a good opportunity maybe to save some money. um on that portion of it. So, Greg, anything you would add to that? >> Um, you know, we don't have any history with this MacBook Neo, but with the MacBook Airs that we ran, we were running at about a 5% tax, six years ago. So it's probably a good thing and if that accident would happen to be in year three or four then again your replacement cost is not near what a a new one would have been if it happens in the first year. So um yeah so that's the recommendation item which is purchasing the cases and why you don't see insurance as part of the official recommendation. >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve the

purchase of the cases for the new devices? >> I'll make a motion. >> Does anyone have any other questions or clarifications on the cases? >> Just as a parent, I should know this already, so I'm just going to ask it anyway and look silly, but what how do we communicate and what are our expectations like as far as the student if they have the accident? How does it work? Is that on the school or that's on the parent? Thankfully, I have a really responsible. >> So, if it is deemed to truly be an accident, so a student walks in class and they pull their laptop out of their bag and try to >> and they drop it and the screen shatters, >> legitimate straight up accident, they would take that to grade. They would evaluate

if it's something they can fix on their own if they can. Otherwise, they would send that off. Um, and then I what we're saying is again, we're not I'm not publicly encouraging it's okay to have an accident, but then I believe that is something we're saying by choosing not to purchase that insurance that we're going to take care of. Now, if we find out that that student uh was in the hallway and they were playing catch with one of their friends to see who could toss the egg or the laptop the farthest and not drop it and we knew that, then that parent would be asked to pay for that repair cost. I think it's just >> I mean even an accident now you still offer a minimal fee. >> Yeah. >> Um >> right.

>> Yeah. That has that been $50? Has that been the amount? So it's a little bit of an incentive for the kids to to be careful. Um, but at the same time, a parent doesn't have to worry that you could you're putting a laptop in the hands of a freshman and they could potentially be on the hook for $500 because of what is actually just an accident. What Greg's talking about there puts a little teeth into it, I think, to some incentive. >> Okay. I was just >> Yeah. All right. Um, we had the motion. No, no, no. We're all in favor? >> I >> opposed. All right, motion carries. All right, next we have our administrator reports. Um, I think that we, unless anybody had one that I don't know about, we are missing

our administrators. So, we're going to move on to Mr. McClar. >> Yeah, Mrs. McCall was not able to be here tonight. Uh, and, uh, I had told Mr. Macintosh and Mr. Mish since they're technically technically not official to July 1st to enjoy one more evening off and we'll get them starting uh, the next time. So, I do not have a whole lot either tonight to specifically report. Um, just in regard, I know mentioned earlier you guys saw we did have uh the van that was officially purchased. Um, we did end up going with a new van. Uh, you saw that cost is 41, which is about $10,000 less than maybe we originally thought that could potentially cost. So, that was that was good. Uh, we are keeping the old van. Um, it has about 200,000

miles on it to use for kind of local trips. Um, couple different things that that might get used for. Just again, probably don't want to send that off to Cincinnati or Indianapolis or Evansville or somewhere like that. But, uh, uh, just locally here, we think that'll be fine. So, we'll have that. Um, had mentioned last time we did have on May 21st, uh, we did have some nice media attention. So, thank you to the local media and also some of the Fort Wayne media, uh, about our Veterans Memorial. um static display. So the fundraising has sort of started for that. Mr. Soldier continues to work uh very hard in conjunction uh with some of the other guys involved with that. Uh recognize Steve Bailey, Cam Collier. Um we're are directly involved at county mayor from

the community foundation has been very integral in in making that happen. Um so just uh very thankful for that and again to be excited about that opportunity as we continue to work work through the process. One of the things I would would say um that's kind of come up originally with this discussion I believe the kind of the thought there's been some just some discussion of where exactly this would go. I think we kind of settled on the front of the school. There continues to be just a little concern about 124 expansion. Um again nothing's been decided and this will still take place but at this point we're thinking potentially down on the end the far west end of the front drive which is where our electronic sign is. We have, if you can picture

that or look at it on your way out, there's just the grass where the parking actually ends extends about another 15 or 20 ft. Um, so we actually gain quite a bit of space if we move it down there. It might result in one tree being removed. Uh, whether or not we keep the electronic sign right there is a little bit yet of a TVD. Todd says that would be pretty easy to move that down just in front of the school. And that kind of came out just a little bit of uh kind of thinking when you drive by the school, if you put that jet right smack in front, it kind of just takes away from the the front view of the school, which is pretty nice as people drive by. And then that

would also put it just a little bit closer while still direct access for seeing that from 124. Uh but also get an awful lot of traffic in and out on the west end of that parking lot. So, um that's kind of up still up in the air a little bit, but that's a kind of a recent idea just to uh kind of put in front of you. Um, you know, again, Dan Dan mentioned as as we look at things, one of the things I've continued to hear discussion on as I continue to grow into this role is uh the two biggest things that I keep hearing that since co have just drastically increased in price are buses and then that property and casualty insurance. Those are two things that have the costs have just skyrocketed

uh across the board in the last five six years. So that continues to be a challenge for for not just Adam Central but but everybody. So again, do appreciate Dan with all his efforts. We're very blessed to have him doing what he does out there. Uh not only just taking care of the fleet, but just all making sure we have kids getting to where they need to be, all the scheduling of that. Uh and just appreciate him for for all that. So So thank you. Um summer I'm quickly finding here uh summer in the in the superintendent's office continues to hop along. I've had a little bit of a busy week this week. uh uh had an opportunity to be down in Terote yesterday and today for uh uh seminar I'm part of at Indiana

State and then uh opportunity to be part of the upper wall bash valley superintendent study council. I'll be in Cincinnati for a couple days here leaving tomorrow afternoon for for that. Uh just a lot of things that seem to to come up but it's uh great opportunities for me to continue to be learning. So, I'm just doing as much as I can to to get to all those events and uh the things that I'm gaining there. I'm just would share that I feel good about and I'm I'm glad I have the opportunity to do that. Um kind of the last thing I would mention um just this is posted on our school website. Uh but school board elections are coming up this fall. We do have three districts, districts 2, three, and four. uh that

if there is anybody listening or anybody listening that knows somebody that would be interested in those so they are open um those three districts kind of occupy I guess if you split our district into east west and central it's kind of the northern part of our district kind of uh get these exactly right kind of if you take 27 and go three miles east three miles west north of 124 and then the district that kind of encompasses Monroe which is just south and then the uh the district kind of on the southwest west corner of the district. So three west onto the county line and 124 south. We get a little kind of a jagged little corner down there. It's not a clean cut southern edge of the the district down there. We have just

a little bit of some unique boundary lines as we get to the north uh northeast side and southwest side of our district. But those are open. So if people are interested, there's a lot more information on the website. Uh you can reach out to the election board. Um, obviously you can call the school if any questions that we could answer about that. I'd be happy to answer those, but those are positions that are open. So, um, those are kind of things I had in front of me tonight. So, I don't have anything else real lengthy to expound on beyond that. >> Okay. Uh, any other board members have anything that you want to add tonight? >> Quite a bunch. Mhm. >> You know, one thing if I could jump in just real quick. I did

just have one other thing pop into my mind that I want to mention. So, we will have uh quite a few policies anticipate on the July agenda. I'm working with our Neola rep to we got a meeting coming up sometime next week uh to go over some of those things. One thing that I would point out that has gotten a lot of attention uh is the new cell phone policy. Uh so just if people have not heard about yet that is a uh a new state requirement that will be in policy starting uh the first day of school where basically people are calling different things but essentially bellto bell 8:00 to 3:00 uh we should never see a cell phone for any reason in the school building. Um you know we're going to uh allow

kids to keep those turned off in lockers as long as we don't see them or in their book bags in the lockers. Um but that will be um a policy that uh really the main difference for us. We've kind of been that way for a little while other than the fact that we have allowed kids to have access to those during the passing period. Um various things like that. There will be uh some exceptions. I'll just use the example if you have a student who is diabetic uh that uses that phone to track and monitor blood sugar that would be so there are some exceptions for medical related things. Um but uh other than that there will there will be some questions about what do I need to do if I need to check my

work schedule? What do I need to do if I if my parent needs to get a hold of me? Um they're always welcome to come down to the office and just kind of like it used to be a little bit in the old days. They can make some phone calls and and do some things with that. So that'll be something I'm just kind of putting that out there. I think most people have probably uh heard about that by now. Again, depending on school systems across the state, what their policies have been before, that might be a bigger shock for us or for uh some schools and others. I don't think it'll be a big one for us, but uh um that is something just to have out there publicly in case people had not heard

about that yet um to be aware of. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Y >> So, we have a lot of reading you're saying coming up. >> We will. Yes. >> All right. Okay. Um is there a motion to adjourn the meeting? I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I >> opposed. All right, motion carries. So, our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 14th at 7 o'clock right here. Thank you for coming tonight.
