Welcome to our February board meeting. We are going to begin with our prayer and pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Father God, we thank you for this evening. We thank you for all that could be here. I pray that you will be with our decisions. Um I thank you for keeping us all safe during this winter weather we've had. I just pray for continued safety for this school year. And thank you for all the blessings that you give us. In your name, amen. >> All right. First item here we have is to approve our agenda and there are no changes to my knowledge on the agenda. So, is

there a motion to approve the agenda? >> That motion? >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I opposed. Motion carries. Next, we have the approval of our minutes. And this is our January 13th uh executive session, board of finance meeting, and our regular session that all happened that evening. You should have had a chance to look at those. They were sent to us. And were there any is there any discussion, questions, changes, anything on that? >> All right. Is there a motion to approve the minutes? >> Motion second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Uh, next we have public comments. And from the crowd, I'm going to say that no one signed in back there. I'm doubting. Okay. So, we can move on from that. Uh, next we have our consent agenda.

And, um, board, is there any item that you want to pull from there and, um, do separately from the consent agenda? If not, we'll just go ahead and move right into them then. Okay. A is our payment vouchers and our fund reports um, that Don sent us. So, any any questions or clarifications or things that anyone wants to point out on there that are unusual? >> I had just a couple things I was going to point out for your benefit that uh talking with Dawn maybe just a little not out of the ordinary, but in case anybody noticed. So, uh on page 15, this would have been about 26147. It was for some uh software for the library. It was a cost of 14,500. This is probably as much for my benefit as anything as

I'm starting to look at these things just understand what we're paying for various things and um that is primarily our library software for ebooks u online technology to allow us to have that platform um I'm not sure how many of you would use something like Libby for example through our public libraries we use something um SOSA which is our u kind of the school same software for schools uh so just pointing that's kind of a yearly cost that we have to maintain those and that uh kind of goes into an account. So throughout the year then when this is cool able to make purchases on those things that uh that we have that money available. So anything else to add to that that kind of describe it? Okay. Um the other one was on page

00554. Um it was voucher which was for like 10,200 some odd dollars. uh that was just for our power school some software enrollment software that is one of the things that we use to uh do enrollment. So that looks like a pretty large cost but uh that's a pretty necessary thing in talking to Dawn and Jackson and some of those. So those were maybe just a couple of things that might have been just out of the ordinary. I think everything else is kind of in order unless anybody has questions on those. >> Okay. Thank you. I think we can move on to the voided checks Don sent us. These are ones that as of December 31st were two years uncashed and so we are just requesting to void those checks out for us. >> Uh

next we have our preschool fees and um there's going to be a small increase here and I think Mr. Mccclure would like to address that. >> Yeah. So, on that one, and you you probably saw the the letter from Mary Beth. Um, we have been at $3. I don't think anybody can quite determine exactly how long, but let's say multiple multiple multiple years, uh, that that cost has been $3 per hour. Um, in Mary Beth best research, most of the surrounding school corporations that offer preschool are $4 or higher. Uh so we're just making the recommendation that we raise that 50 cents just to kind of help start recouping some of those fees and still um keep it what is hopefully very affordable for for our families. So that's the reason for that slight increase

and it's been a long time uh since we have done that >> and our preschool is well well worth it. So I think that that's that makes sense. Uh, next we have two grants. Um, a CPR certification cost for students and an echo core digital stethoscope. And those were both from the Adams County Community Foundation. So, we want to thank them very much for um granting us the the money for those items. And Mr. Mccclure, I think you wanted to talk about that as well. >> Yeah, just so you know kind of specifically what those are. And I'd like to thank uh I think Mrs. Clinker helped with those a little bit. guidance office possible just working there. I know Lacy Schae uh also worked that. So the CPR certification we do uh CPR training

for it's primarily our freshman in their health class and that cost will be uh covered by that that allow them to get their certification cards um through the hospital where they'll be able to get those. And then that digital stethoscope that's kind of a nice thing we're able to get. We've got a student involved in the health science program uh at North Adams that uh has a hearing impairment uh that just using a typical stethoscope does not work. So this digital stethoscope is kind of designed for somebody that might have uh like I said impairment with their hearing uh to be able to continue to participate in that program. So very thankful for those that put those uh grants together and we're able to get those because that'll take care of those costs. >> Okay.

Thank you. Uh next we have our overnight and out of state trips and uh first one here we have is our varsity wrestling for the individual state tournament and that is February 21st and 22nd and hopefully we'll be taking lots of wrestlers to that event. Um and good luck to them as well. Uh next we have our BPA state leadership conference and that is March 8th through 10th. So, our students I know have typically done well there and um they're gone for a couple days I believe out of school that week. So, um those are the only two trips we have right now for approval. Any questions on those or Okay. Um next we have our recommendations. We have six of those. Um our first one is Miss Jasmine Munius and she is going to

work as a translator for us. She's currently an aid. Mr. Mccclure, did you have a couple things on that? >> Yeah, so just just to clarify that one. So Jasmine is here with us on a daily basis working in the special ed department. Um we will occasionally have a special education case conference. Uh somebody that their first language is Spanish. And when that's the case, we want to be able to make sure that we're being able to communicate with that family. So, uh, Jasmine, if and when that would require something after school hours, this would just be, uh, some extra hours on her week. If this happens to be during the school day, as sometimes happens with those conferences, uh, she would simply clock out as from her normal position during the day, clock in

as our translators. That's got a little bit higher hourly rate um, that she would get for doing that. Um, and then, uh, just clock back into her other role once she was done with that. So, uh, we're thankful we have somebody on staff that's able to do that for us and that she's willing, uh, to do that. So, again, that that won't be a regular basis, that a few times a year potentially. Um, but that is, uh, kind of how we were able to to work that out. So, thankful for Mrs. making that happen and making that recommendation. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh, next we have Mr. Jackson Rankenberger. And I know he's done this several years in a row and he has been requested by Mrs. Johnson to be the assistant musical director for

our spring musical. Um, and our next three are baseball and we have Mr. Tim Howard, JV, assistant baseball coach. Mr. Parker Bates, volunteer assistant baseball coach. Mr. Cade Vandere, volunteer assistant baseball coach. I believe some of these are returning returning people also that have helped us in the past. Um, the last one is a JV assistant softball coach, Mrs. Lindsay Gasco. So, any comments or questions about the recommendations? Okay, then our spring coaches roster has been updated with these individuals, so we need to approve that again. Um, is on the spring coaches roster here on the board? feel like. No, not the spring one. Okay. I forgot to double check that. >> All right. Um before we have a motion, are there any is there anything anyone would like to go back to or have

questions? >> I'm going to go back one back up to the preschool fees. I know we've increased it a little bit. Is are we increasing it enough that we feel confident that that's going to cover those increased costs that we've seen? I know we have look at Dawn for a little more on that I would say for for right now I think so we can see where we're at but do you have any additional thoughts on that? >> We did not want to do a complete followup. Um we don't know if this will cover everything that we are looking at and a deficit if we would have any. Um but we just needed to get more current but still be conscious of it for >> okay and I think in regard to that too we

do have um a lot of kids that are with us for two years so again there's a potential we may come back here next year a year from now we talk maybe raising it to $4 but if that's the case again hopefully it's been spread over a couple years to to be able to do that >> fair enough >> I think that's a good idea for our families when they come when they come in during the year what they expect changing it >> because it will be give or take assuming they're here all day it'll be about $3 $3.50 a day so about $20 a week which when you multiply that over the course of the entire school year is not not an insignificant amount so um hopefully that will not be too much of

an hindrance for any of our families. >> Okay, anyone else? All right. Is there a motion for the consent agenda? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Okay. Motion carries. Next, we are already to our administrator reports. So, I don't know if we have an elementary report tonight. >> Mary is not here this evening due to a personal conflict and appointment. So, no elementary report tonight, but we'll look at Mrs. she made that for us in middle high school. >> Okay, >> so first of all, I want to talk about virtual learning just for a minute. Um, three days in a row, which was something for us, but every time we learn a little more, we do a little bit better. Um, this time again, got feedback

from people. Next time we have virtual learning, I'll have something to send out to kids and teachers both to clarify a few more things again. Um, but all that said, I just want to say wow. Like, wow to our staff, wow to our kids. um it's a challenge, a different kind of challenge to be learning at home like that and they just did a really nice job. So, I just wanted to thank everyone both for the great work they did and for the feedback and their willingness to always get better at it. Um also another wow surprises yesterday was midterms um for our third quarter. So, already halfway through that third quarter um school year's flying by here. So, if you haven't I just say if people haven't checked grades, they check them now. That

was the midterm mark. We know we're quarter or halfway through this this quarter. And then we've got um several athletic announcements. So we'll go through these. We want to congratulate. There's just lots of exciting things happening for us to congratulate. So first of all, we want to congratulate our high school wrestlers who are dancing to semi-state at the Memorial Coliseum this Saturday. Kale Beer, Miles Carr, Maverick Duvall, Xander Schwarz, Max News, Ethan Funk, and regional champions Dylan Augen, Brace Sergeant. So we wish them the best of luck. The Brilland Reaper became we think eight. Do you think that's right? Eight. We weren't sure for eighth or ninth. We were going with eight. Basketball player. >> Top 10. Top. Yes. Top 10. >> Yeah, for sure. To achieve 1,000 points in his high school career at

the January 23rd basketball game. So, congratulations to him. The girls basketball team went into overtime this past Friday night against Bishop Lurs in the sectional semi-finals. Um, great great effort there. Swimming ACAC first team in champion. Bailey Smith won the 200 free. Damon Light did 11 dives, broke the old school record, which was 373.5 points, and his new record is now 54.65 points. And then ACAC second team, Bailey Smith 100 free, elimin 100 breaststroke, and the boys 200 free relay, Logan Heyman, Ethan Crockett, Tristan Warm, and Kale Raten. And then also Damon set a new school record last night with six dives um totaling 301.3 points. and he did have the old school record. So, he's just been doing a fabulous job. So, congratulations to all of our athletes as well. >> I did my

math here that I had 30 seconds to process number nine. >> Number nine. Okay. Number nine. >> All right, Mr. Mccclure, we're to you. >> All right. Well, I've got just a a kind of maybe a few things to touch base on. I'll just start with uh kind of a followup on what what Katie said with the virtual learning. just a a big thanks to all our staff uh K12 for for leading that uh process. It uh obviously means a little extra work and trying to get prepared for that and try to have um clearly we all kind of understand that uh that's that's not a replacement for in-person learning. Uh but those are are days that we value and and try to to make those very beneficial for our students just as they're already

as she's Katie said halfway through third nine weeks here. uh state testing, AP testing, all those things are coming upon us a lot quicker than than we might think. So, we appreciate uh the staff doing that. And obviously, the weather uh over the last couple weeks has been a little bit of a little bit of a challenge. I don't know if any of you some I think a pitcher made it out there somewhere that I had the opportunity uh to ride with one of our uh county highway uh men in a snow plow for about 90 minutes I think on the Monday following the Sunday snowstorm. I had met with some of the guys at the county highway department prior to Christmas just to get a little handle on how they what their thought process

is, how they're handling roads, how that impacts our decisions to go to school. And uh one of them asked me if I'd ever like to take a ride in a snow plow. And of course, I said yes. And then I think it was about 6:00 Monday morning, I got a text from uh Paul Zerby, who's one of the the leaders over there at the highway department. He said, "Today is the day if you want to do it." So uh learned a lot. Uh that is a when you get an opportunity to do that that is not an easy job. Uh a lot of times we were literally in some white out conditions depending on which road you were on. Um so that was just uh enjoyable for me to get an opportunity to do that

and I think just gain an appreciation. I think that's probably for all those uh gentlemen in the highway department uh somewhat of a thankless job because I think they often hear about when the roads are not cleared off in time and maybe not so much getting the thanks they probably deserve a lot of times. Uh so I would just like to publicly thank them for all the work they're out there doing uh in as timely a fashion as they can and in fighting the elements. Um you know it was interesting we we last Friday of course uh uh there was some bad weather. It turned out driving into school in the morning. Um I I guess just a reminder for for how we make those decisions. I I've learned pretty quickly here that there's a

lot of communication going on between area superintendent in Adams and Wells County. Uh that morning it started about 5:00 or 5:15. Just some questions because they were calling for some snow. Uh at that point there really was not any snow on the ground. Of course I'm working with Dan Weber, our transportation department. He's in contact with some of the other schools as well, just kind of what they're seeing in their areas. And uh the forecast last Friday I think was for 1 to 2 ines here in our area between about 7:00 and 11:00 and I think we ended up getting at least 3 maybe 4 in between 7 and 8. So uh we had kids coming in already on the roads when that started to come down. So we're very thankful that everybody was able

to get here on time. Uh we did have just a a few phone calls uh expressing some maybe displeasure about uh about the decision to go. But one thing I would just remind everybody in this public meeting tonight, if we're ever in a situation where whether it's the weather on your side in the Adam Central School District and whatever it was for parents that are ever not comfortable, whether that's putting your child on school bus, bringing them to school yourself if they drive to school, um you are more than welcome to make that decision as a parent uh to to keep them home for a little bit till the conditions let up. Uh we did have quite a few people make that decision last week. those are excused absences and we we do understand that

uh that's not going to be a regular occurrence where it comes that quick and that fast but um that is what happened last week. So um but again just with all the weather we had like to thank Todd McDonald and our whole maintenance staff, custodial staff for keeping parking lots cleaned off, the bus drivers uh uh for getting our kids here safely when we did start coming back and there was still snow on the roads. Uh so very just thankful for that. Um I think most of you know that we yesterday had our uh project Adam Hart safe reertification. Pleased to tell you that went very very well. Yesterday we got a um reertified uh the Tanya who was the person here representing that group uh made some very just very positive comments about us

in general said she works with about 75 schools. Um, I think she said maybe we were I don't want to maybe at the risk of offending any other schools that she works with. We'll say she said at least we were one of the best uh that she'd ever seen. Um, so just a bit again a big shout out to Donna Barter, our school nurse, for leading us through that process. Um, obviously that's some certification that you hope that you never have to put into action. Uh, but if that ever were to become a true emergency during a school day, uh, I think we're we're in as good a shape as we can be as far as having trained staff. a lot of thank you to our teachers and just other members of those teams that

that respond um if we have that happen. Um just couple couple more things. Uh last month I mentioned we were just starting to go through the tag grant applications. We have completed uh that process. Uh we did end up uh 25 people applied for that. We were able to uh award 14 of those grants. That is something those names will probably come to you guys at the April board meeting uh for approval uh to receive those $3,500 stipens. Uh we anticipate receiving that money sometime late April, early May, and then once those have been approved and uh the money comes through, we'll we'll go ahead and issue those checks. So, thank you for everybody that applied. Um I think the process really went about as well as it could have been. I we intend to

uh kind of give some feedback to the entire staff as we look to next year. here. I think first off that process from the state level could potentially look a little different next year depending on what kind of guidance we get. Uh but really did feel good just about our process uh that we used for that. And again, I'll share some more detail with staff on that as as we go down the road. But that that process is complete other than kind of waiting for those for those dollars to come in. Um, another thing that I I Heather will probably mention this at the end of the meeting, our March board meeting, uh, is going to be our board visitation day. Um, would encourage you, I will work with her if you guys have any

feedback on specific items you would like to see on the agenda that day. Uh, feel free to get to Heather. I know one of the things that we've talked about is trying to make sure there is some time built in for you guys just to be out and about in the building and maybe have um some kind of specific places and times for you to do that and a little bit of some scheduled opportunities. Uh I know we're having uh uh Chad Blocklock who is from Skull, one of our financial experts that help us out is going to come in and do a little presentation for us. I think you guys had something last August maybe on that but just maybe some updates that I think will be good. Um, and so whatever some other

things, if there's things that you would have that you'd like to see that day, uh, feel free to get with Heather and and mention that and I'll work with her to put that schedule together, uh, for that March visitation day. Um, last thing again, as we're first week of February, as we start to look forward to summer projects, this is just a heads up. Um, last summer, hopefully I'm saying this right, we did kind of phase one of a project down kind of on the elementary the end of the building. We're replacing some heating units, cooling units on top of the building that are starting to get some age on those. That project was completed as far as the phase one. There is still a phase two that needs to be done with that. That's

kind of on top of the cafeteria. that is kind of on top of the area just west of the cafeteria down that hallway heading out to uh the exit that leads out toward the softball field right kind of in the middle of the building. Um as I've worked with Todd, he is suggesting just due to the potential cost of that that they think we can kind of continue to make do with what we have at least for another year or two. Uh so some of the things we have on our radar are some bus purchases. Um, we also have uh what are called ERVs, which are energy recovery ventilators. I start speaking out of my world here, Doug, jump in if I say anything wrong here on this. But primarily what those are, those are

the uh ventilators that control the air coming into and out of the building, making sure we have fresh air in the building. Uh Jason Johnson regularly monitors that. And a couple of those units are definitely past their useful lifetime. So, that's one of the reasons Todd's kind of suggesting maybe we put the other things on hold because we're still kind of able to get some parts for those where these ERVs were. We're running into a little trouble on those down there. And this is primarily on the middle school end of the building, which would have been kind of the 2011 project. So, those things are about 15 years old. It sounds like they probably more than used up their useful lifetime as far as that goes. The only other thing kind of in regard to

that as we're kind of doing right now, uh, Mr. Brooks from the tech department and, uh, myself, Mr. Mendoza, Mr. Mallister, Mr. Riley, uh, all those guys that are kind of involved in the aspect of school safety are kind of doing a good look at our camera system. What is the system we're using to run those? And also, are there any spots where we need to make sure we're updating that system? So, those are some things. I'll probably have a little more formal recommendations. If any of those things are jumping out at you that you'd have questions on, feel free to reach out to me uh prior to March. But we'll come back with a little more formal recommendation what we think we need to do hopefully uh at that time so we can move

forward. So I think those are the the things that I had. I do have one I guess one last thing. I'm not sure how many of you have heard this. Um probably a week and a half ago, an email came out to schools in the state that you are able to apply for Labor Days uh for missed school days that we had as a result of the entire state being hit uh by that winter storm. So I have made that application. Um again, not 100% sure what that will play out as yet if if that's something we'll want to utilize, not utilize. Again, once we know some more detail on that, that'll probably be something I'll have a recommendation on March. But I just to let you know, I did make that application. Uh if

we get that day and decide for whatever reason that we do not want to utilize it or take advantage of that, we don't have to. Uh but I did go ahead and make that application just in case that's something we decide we want to do. So we'll see how that plays out. >> Okay, >> that's all I have. >> Thank you. All right. Uh does anyone else have anything tonight? the mystery questions. Okay, then we are ready for to adjourn the meeting. >> I'll second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Okay. And so Tuesday, March 10th is our next meeting. We will be here all day. So our board meeting will be at 3:15 instead of at 7 that day. So just take note of that time change. And thank you all for coming

tonight.
