Welcome to our December board meeting. Already our last one of the year. Uh we're going to go ahead and get started with our pledge and our prayer. I >> aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Father God, we thank you for this day. We thank you for this school year that we have had so far and all the accomplishments our students have made. Um we just thank you for giving us safety each day here at our school. And we pray that you will continue to watch over us. Please be with us with our decision- making tonight that it be the best for all involved. In your name, amen. All right, we're going

to get started with the approval of our agenda that's been sent out to all of you. Um, we did have an addition of a another draft of a calendar. Um, on the back side here, letter C under 11. So, that was just added in. Um, there's no other additions that I'm aware of. If there's not any discussion, we'll need a motion. [clears throat] >> I'd like a motion to approve the agenda for tonight's meeting. >> I'll second. >> All in favor? >> I >> oppose. Okay, motion carries. Uh, next we had the approval of our minutes from our October 14th public hearing, our November 11th regular session meeting minutes, and both of those were sent to us. So, we'll need a motion to approve the minutes. I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Uh, any

discussion or questions or corrections to those minutes? >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Okay. Motion carries. Uh, next we have our public comment section. And I believe we had one. Do we I'm sorry. Can somebody just check it real quick, please? Is this the one? Sorry. >> I think we do have one. Yes. >> Rhonda has one. >> Okay. All right. So, Rhonda, um, where do you want me to go? >> Center. >> Sure. Why not? Right. stand over here. >> I'm going to guess that Mike will be our timer for five minutes. >> Don't think about that. >> I got to [laughter] make him work on >> Yeah, I was going to say >> Oh, did you say sorry? >> All right. So, this is a different role for me.

Um, I want to talk to you as a concerned parent. Um, I'm concerned on how the interviews and the selection went for the varsity coaching job. To start out, we had first round interviews. We had three candidates. None of the three were selected because the committee felt that none of them were strong. In the meantime, the AD tried to get at least four people to apply, but had no luck. Then, after being pressured to hire a coach so practices and gym time could get scheduled, we brought back two of the candidates that we had done in round one. And but we were willing to settle because we needed to get a coach. So one was recommended. It was brought to the board. Uh I think that was two meetings ago and no motion was made

to accept the recommendation. So it was tabled. The job posting had not been taken down. So we had a new candidate apply. This was a candidate that the committee had hoped from the beginning would apply, but they didn't know that that it needed filled. Um, and I did reach out to North Adams and South Adams ads about how they post their positions. North Adams newspapers, radio stations, media outlets. They he relies heavily on the IHSAA portal. He said you can make the it as wide a search or as narrow a search as you want. Um, South Adams AD, they post it internally first. They do social media, website, all that. He said he highly uses the IHSAA portal. He said that you can email all the coaches in the state and you can pick whatever

sport you want. And uh they just hired a a softball coach and they were able to reach out to over 500 softball coaches. So I had asked Arita and Jeff, sorry I don't know if I can say names. Sorry. And uh we post on our website. Now, I was told we do indeed now for we did for the basketball coach, but we could get a huge maybe maybe not. I don't know who wants maybe no one wants to come to DC. I don't know, but I feel like we could have reached out a lot more. So, anyhow, um so the can the third one that applied then um has a huge knowledge of the game. They give hitting lessons, pitching lessons, fielding lessons to many athletes in the area. They coach for one of our

rival teams. Um, a local college softball coach who had heard that they had applied said, "Man, I'd sure hate to follow him after they go through their interview." Um, one of our AC coaches here, he's like, "We would be stupid not to hire him." Um, so our AD talked to this new candidate and told him that he would let him know. um when he could send in everything. Never got back with them. So our superintendent heard word of this, told him, "Hey, you need to let them know they're waiting." Then the AD's um handpicked committee compromis compro comprised sorry of a student which I don't really understand why you pick a student because I know how hard it is to sit up here and if everybody votes one way it's hard to go against let

alone a student and with adults. Um the student's mother is friends with the candidate candidate that they ended up picking. um a parent who's friends with the students family and I think four others were on it. And I don't understand why Amber Brooks, who is the assistant varsity coach, wasn't involved in the whole process as she's going to be coaching alongside this person. I think she did sit on on one. Um I don't know why did the committees keep changing. my feelings because the AD knew how the previous people would vote and had a personal agenda to get his candidate through. Um the AD had even told a parent a while back that they've never had a recommendation not go through and I believe that he's willing to jeopardize the softball program for this win.

[snorts] Um and I don't feel like we can lose a good person because of the personal agenda. So, thank you all for your time and hope we'll do what's right for the softball team. >> Thanks, Ronda. >> All right, we're going to move on to the consent agenda portion. Um, and is there any board member that would like to remove any item that is a part of that consent agenda number five? >> [clears throat] >> If you want to break out Logan Moer probably ought to abstain. >> Okay. >> I would agree with Doug. Okay. >> Obviously being on the staff probably. >> Sure. >> Okay. >> And if I mess up then at that point just you remind me. >> Yeah. Okay. Anything else in there that anyone would like to take out and

have us do work on separately? >> Does it matter if I vote for the overnight trip for the wrestling team being on set? >> No, >> I don't think it ever happens in the past. >> Is this separate? >> Yes, it is correct. >> Okay. I think we'll go ahead and move forward with the consent agenda. Then as it is with under recommendations um I5, we will take that one separately from the rest. Okay. First we have our payment vouchers, [clears throat] our fund reports, and our 2025 legal fees. Um Don, I don't know if you have anything you'd like to mention about the vouchers or anything to us. >> No. [laughter] >> Glad they're [clears throat] done. >> They're done. All right. Okay. Thank you. Um in grants, we're going to look at the

um or we have the AWS grant. Um $58,543 for life skills. Huge. I know Mrs. She might want to say something about that. >> Yes. I would just really like to thank especially Trisha Hershey and Abby for their work. Um Trish put a lot of work into getting this grant. Um, it was a pleasure to work with them and we really appreciate the AWS grant offering a specialized curriculum, an opportunity for us to be able to do some kind of a a coffee cart or something like that for our students to use those real world skills. Okay, >> it's a great opportunity. >> Have we ever had a grant like that for the life skills? I I'm just trying to remember back. >> We have had an AWS grant in the past that they did

help fund some curriculum, but that's been um quite a while ago. being able to get the coffee cart and things like that. Um that's new for us, so we're excited for that. >> Okay. Well, thanks for the extra info there. Um and big thank you to AWS for for giving us that because it'll be well used. All right. And our overnight um out of state trips in this category, we have our varsity wrestling team going to Lafayette Lafayette Jefferson High School um December 30th and 31st. I know you all would have had the information um on that trip. Any questions or concerns about that? All right. The next we have a policy re review. This was just a technical correction um for 8405 inv environmental health and safety [clears throat] issues. So we don't have

to go through all the the readings as as normal that we will be later on. So this one's kind of off by itself. I don't know Mr. Mr. Layman, if you need to add anything else to that one or not. >> I don't have anything on that one. >> Okay. [clears throat] U next we have our classified rates. So, this would include our classified hourly rate increase that we're going to be um making, our bus rate increase, and our cafeteria hourly rate increase. Um Mr. Layman, I think you wanted to say a couple of things about that. Yeah, we uh each of these groups will be um we will provide a 1% increase um [cough and clears throat] for just the next year starting January 1st. Um and this is just for one year. You

may remember when we did the teachers contract previously, theirs was a two-year. This is just one year and then obviously we'll come back to that again uh in another year. But each of those will [clears throat] be increased uh at the same level. >> Okay. Uh next we have our health insurance rate. Um this is for certified and classified health insurance rates, administrators and directors health insurance rates. Um if I'm correct, there's no changes in that. >> No. Again, approval. We didn't make any changes with the teachers, so we're leaving all of that the same. >> Okay. And next we have our um other pay increases. This would be for our administrators and directors. And Mr. Layman, would you like to add anything to that? >> Yeah, I I would. Uh, [clears throat] the certified

administrators are usually uh handled the same as the teachers, but the teachers were given a two-year contract, which over two years they would see $2,000 increase. The these administrators, it's just for one year, [clears throat] so it's just a $1,000 increase. And then on the directors who oversee all of our classified staff, they will be done the same as the classified staff and they will all receive uh the same 1% increase um for those. >> Okay. >> And this is just about the pay contracts were already approved in July. We just need to um take care of the pay. >> Okay. um board, any questions or clarifications on those documents that were sent to us about those increases? You had a chance to look at those. All right. Uh we will move on then to

resignations and um Mrs. Rachel Klingan, maintenance and custodial staff has uh requested or turned in her resignation, I should say. Um, I know we want to thank her for her time here at Adam Central. Um, and wish her the best. And moving on, [clears throat] next we have recommendations for hiring. We'll take those first four. Um, we have Miss Cassidy Fowler as a high school um, biology teacher. And Mrs. Ish, I don't know if you want to mention anything or not about >> Yeah, we just [clears throat] um are very very fortunate to be able to have her come to Central. [clears throat] Acid is graduating at semester which is why she is available. Um her references could not say enough good things about her. So she's did a great job with her student teaching.

She's excited [clears throat] to be um in a school like Ev Central. She went to a small rural school when she was in high school um in Ohio. And so we are really looking forward to walking in her in January. >> Okay. And that was a great find. It sounds like >> it was. [laughter] >> All right. Um, next we have Miss Destiny Hurley who is moving from um a kindergarten special or I'm sorry kindergarten aid to an elementary specialed paraprofessional just a transfer um internal. Uh next we have Mr. Don Sarasin uh as assistant varsity basketball coach for the boys and Mr. Spencer Adams as freshman boys basketball coach. Um, do we have any questions about any of those recommendations? All right. Well, then that concludes that portion of our consent agenda. So, um,

is there a motion to approve that portion of the agenda? >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> I'll second. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? All right. Motion [clears throat] carries. Uh so next we will take Mr. Logan Moer um that we've separated out here as assistant high school wrestling coach. Is there any discussion or questions? All right. Is there a motion to approve? >> I'll make the motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? I >> opposed. abstain. >> I Okay. >> All right. Next, we're going to uh move on to our approval of recommendation. Um and this uh Miss Kristen Shane as varsity softball coach. Uh she this was tabled back in October. Um and we, you know, we did go through a different interview process again and um and she is our

recommended varsity softball coach candidate. Um, is there a motion? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second it. >> Okay. [clears throat] Is there any further discussion or questions? >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. >> I. >> Okay. Motion carries and welcome to Kirsten in that position. All right. Next we have approval of coaches roster and our first one is our 2526 winter coaches roster. Any questions or or discussions on that? >> The only question I had is Spencer Adams. He's coming in as [clears throat] an assistant to Kathy or is he actually the freshman basketball coach? >> So Kathy [clears throat] is actually going to coach the JV team. >> Okay. >> And Spencer will be the freshman coach. Okay. >> And then Don who is who is on that

list is going to be the varsity assistant. That's kind of how they've re restructured that >> and hopefully we'll eventually get some freshman games. Right now it seems nobody has a freshman. [laughter] [cough] [clears throat] All right. Is there a motion to approve the the winter coaches roster? >> Make that motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Abstain. >> I abstain. >> All right. >> Moving on to the spring coaches roster for um 2026. Um is there a motion to approve the spring roster? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. And was there any question or discussions about that coach's roster? I know there's some blank areas in there that need filled. All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? >> I Okay, motion carries. >> All right. Next,

we have approval of some new positions. Um, we're going to take A, B, and C together here. Um, and I'm not sure, Jessica, do you have a few things that you might like to add as I go through this maybe for um the different position. You don't have to, but if you had something you wanted to add to that and about the restructuring, you could let us know. If not, you can pass. [laughter] But first, we have um a new cafeteria manager job description um that we're going well, I think we're going to approve tonight. Um would you like to say anything about that, Jessica? Yeah. So, this person's basically going to help me oversee make sure that we're doing food safety properly. We have everything lined up. Um, as you know, there's tons of

guidelines and changes that are just occurring one after another and it's so hard for me to learn all of this and then also oversee the entire kitchen which we feed K through 12. Most schools don't have a K through 12, you know, they're separated. So having somebody underneath me to make sure that everything's running smoothly, properly, we're doing it safely, there's, you know, nothing that we need to worry about, and that our kids are happy and wellfed. So excited to have some extra help. >> Okay. All right. And then, um, you've proposed that, uh, Mrs. Melissa Thomas be the cafeteria manager in that position. Right under you, correct? >> Yep. >> Okay. And next, we have the head cook, uh, kitchen manager job description that was created. And I think that's probably pretty self-explanatory unless

you'd like to add a little bit to it. >> Yep. Just overseeing making sure the menu is following that every the ladies have any questions they can go to her and ask. Um she makes sure the food looks tasty and delicious and actually the kids actually want to eat it. [clears throat] >> Okay. All right. And we have proposed there Mrs. uh Crystal Pitter for the head cook and kitchen manager position. And then we have a kitchen food prep job description that is has been added as well. And that one's probably pretty self-explanatory, too. >> Yeah. Yeah. We're just doing a lot more. We're I'm trying to incorporate more scratch cooking or speed scratch cooking so that we can start eliminating those ultrarocessed foods. As you know, when you're cooking at home, it takes so

much time to cook from scratch versus taking a chicken nugget and throwing it on a tray. That's why it's not healthy for you because you're just grabbing and throwing it on the tray. So having somebody come in and help us do that scratch cooking which helps us eliminate the sugars and the salts and we can control it a little more. We can offer those healthy foods, still make them delicious and stay within the government guidelines. So having an extra person has been tremendously helpful for the ladies. >> Okay. And then we have added there um as your recommendation was Mrs. Amanda Peterson in that kitchen food food prep position. Um all right. Is there a motion to approve the new positions and the new people in those positions? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll

second. >> And is there any discussion or questions that you would like to maybe ask Jessica while she's here with us? >> Okay. All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Hope that all goes smoothly and and the cafeteria sounds like it's been a great success. I've heard about a lot of the good new food items that are out there. So, that's good. >> All right. Um next we have um actually we're kind of reconfiguring a position um director of communications and staff development. Um that new job description um for Mrs. Debbie Accord. And I'm not sure if anybody would like you to speak on that, Mr. Layman. When when I arrived, there was already some conversation that back in the day, you had a librarian. Um, it's not that we don't still

have libraries, but that whole world is very different. And with the advent of social media and all that's happening, um, I can tell you in my short time here, Debbie handles all of that. Um, you might I obviously have to be up with Dan Weber deciding if we're going to have school or not, but I will tell you once we decide, I have to send a couple of texts and I'm done. Debbie has a very busy morning ahead of her [laughter] um in coordinating all that. Um, and and it it was a little bit of a process to make this happen because she's still going to be a teacher. She's still going to be with the teachers and all that, but she is still doing all these. So, I highly recommend uh changing that title

to more reflect what that job does. And if nothing else, that's a very important thing to do. I I realize she's going to work another 30 years, which [laughter] is great. Um but when it comes time to refill that position, it becomes much more apparent what [clears throat] what we're looking for. Okay. Thank you. All right. Is there a motion of the the change of that position title? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. >> All right. Any discussion or questions? >> All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Uh, next we have our middle school assistant swimming coach. Um, if you'll remember last month, I believe it was, we created this pos, we approved this position being added. Um, and then Mr. Layman, I believe, had some discussion with ACT representatives

and um, they discussed a stipend of $500 for that season um, for that assistant middle school swimming coach pay. So, is there a motion to approve that position pay? I'll make the motion. >> One second. >> And is there any discussion or questions about that? >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Okay. Motion carries. Uh, next we have approval of new clubs. We had a couple of those submitted. And we'll start with the middle school FCA huddle. Um, Mr. Jackson Rinkenberger, I believe, is going to be the sponsor. And Mrs. she might have a few things that you want to tell us about that. >> So, we um didn't have a process for starting new clubs um at the beginning of the school year and Mr. Lman worked on getting that process

ready for us and um as we're working through the process, we had two new clubs um that wanted to get started. So, it was a good time to try out the process and see how it worked. So, the first one here is Mr. Rekenberger wants to start an FCA in our middle school. So, we already have this in the high school. Um Mr. Andrew Dyinger is the sponsor there and Mr. from is excited to bring it to the middle school starting with grades eight and seven hopefully after we see where we land um maybe eventually being able to work out into sixth as well. We want to get that started in the middle school. >> Okay, great. Um is there a motion to approve the FCA huddle group in the middle school? >> I'll make

the motion. >> I'll second. >> Is there any further discussion or questions about that? >> All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay, motion carries. I think that's a really good addition to our middle school. That's great. >> All right. Um, next we have a Turning Point USA chapter and Mr. Jaden Patterson I think might have a few things to [clears throat] say about that to us. >> Well, first I'd like to thank Mr. Moer and several other teachers at Adam of Central who have offered their support during this. I'd also like to thank Mrs. Zish and Mr. layment who helped has helped push this along and especially my especially the board as well. Thank you for your time and consideration and especially my team members Adrien Johnson, Lucy Olin and Barrett Collier all being

a close welcome team with this. Um in today's ever changing world I feel that it is very important to discuss and to promote conservative Christian values with the family with the community and politically in hopes to make a better tomorrow. I believe turning point USA is the correct vehicle to do that and turning point USA is also the fastest growing student movement in the nation. Some of the activities or our goals to plan is to create an environment where students are civically engaged to promote in voting engaging in community service uh engaging in political dialogue and religious dialogue leadership opportunities. We plan on hosting weekly or bi-weekly meetings and guest speakers. We plan on hopefully having state representatives and local representatives to come speak to us. So that's what I have on the turn point.

So >> Okay. Thank you for your time. >> Thank you. >> All right. Is there a motion to approve the Turning Point USA chapter? >> Make that motion. >> Second. >> Um any discussion or questions? I just had one. Is it going to be just high school? Is that just high school? Okay. I thought so, but I just wanted to double check that. Okay. >> All right. Anyone else? All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Good luck to starting that. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Next, we have our approval of our resolutions. And there are four of them that we are going to take separately. Um, first is our year-end one. And I'm Don, I'm going to be looking your way for these. So, would you let us know about the the

year- end resolution, please? >> Well, since today is the 9th and we have lots of time before the end of the year, um this one just allows us to process any 2025 claims yet this year to get them in the books for 2025. so that we have actual data for that since our books are a cash basis um book. >> Okay. All right. And to my knowledge, like all of these pretty much are what we do every year at the at this time. Correct. >> Correct. >> Okay. All right. Is there a motion to approve the year- end resolution? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion or questions? Okay. All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carries. We have the rainy day transfer resolution next. >> If we are so lucky. >>

When [laughter] >> when when we are so lucky. >> Bless. Okay. All right. When we are so blessed to um have extra funds um we try to replenish or put into our rainy day fund so that we have money obviously there. This allows Mr. Layman, Mr. Mccclure and myself to have a conversation to move funds into that rainy day so that we don't have to then um come and hurry up with the test that we can do that. >> Okay. >> Like we have done in years past. >> Yes. Thank you. All right. Is there a motion to approve the rainy day transfer resolution? >> Make that motion. >> I'll second. >> Any questions? All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carries. Next, we'll move on to the resolution for recurring transfers. As we

have done in many years past since I believe 2017 or 2018, we are allowed to transfer up to 15% by Indiana code from the education fund into the operations fund when they reconfigured all of the funding. Um this resolution allows us to go ahead and start doing that right away. Um in years past and even in 2025 we have been as low as 9% in transferring we have not been um that high. So we are very conservative in that and that just allows us to continue to do so. >> Okay. Thank you. All right. Is there a motion for the resolution of recurring transfer? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion or questions? >> Okay. All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carries. Um, next we have the reappropriation and this is

I can't close the books with any of our appropriations or any of our accounts in the negative, but it's all based on the fund. So, I might have 700 accounts in one fund. Um, and it's the fund that I need to make certain is whole. Um, and I can move the money in that account line. Um, and it's just and it's like taking from social security of kindergarten and moving it to social security of elementary just to make them all whole. And that is what this allows me to do then. Okay. All right. Is there a motion to approve the reappropriation? >> I like the motion. >> I'll second. >> Any further discussion or questions? >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Okay, motion carries. Next, we come to our calendar for 2627. And Mr. Cler

has been working a lot on this. So I am going to hand it over to him for for a minute here to to tell us what we're looking at. >> Yeah. So I have just a couple of options for you to consider. I think I mentioned last month um that I've tried to work with North Adams and South Adams um a little bit to try to get those calendars to match as closely as possible for a variety of reasons. And I think that probably next year maybe we get started on things even a little earlier. Maybe we can become even closer. But saying that uh I do think we have a recommendation for a calendar number one that I think is good for Adam Central. But number two also does match us pretty closely. Uh

about as close as we can get with North Adams and South Adams. Uh North Adams approved their calendar I believe last month. I think South Adams is doing that tonight and they had just a couple things they were still considering. So you've got three options that I think you can see there. Let me first tell you what's the same on all three of those options and then what what we kind of need to consider. So right now on the three options you have before you the first day of school, the last day of school, Christmas break, fall break, spring break, Thanksgiving break. Pretty much all of those are identical on all three options. Uh and again those match pretty close with with north and south to some extent. Um, last month, uh, I know one

of the questions that has come up just a little bit, I think somebody maybe Heather asked about this last month, and this is certainly a a a concern, uh, and just typically the way the calendar rolls often times, and not just Adam Center, but most schools, I think, sometimes find yourself in a position where we have an uneven number of days, first semester and second semester. What you're looking at right there again on all three option shows 85 first semester, 95 second semester. So you have a little bit of a an imbalance there that really doesn't have much impact at all. I think Mary would agree on the elementary. Uh Katie would say probably the same thing for the middle school, but the high school uh it's not a high percentage of classes or teachers

that this would affect, but there are some semesterl long classes uh that are a little tight. Now, that 8595 maybe is not quite as bad as it sounds when you consider all the testing uh that takes place second semester. Um AP testing, for example, is is over several of them maybe a week or two before school's out. So, you actually might have about an equivalent number of days. And again, that's not a semester class, but an example. So, uh this fall has been a little a little unique because we miss some more days than probably is typical, but you also are a lot more likely to have those delay days, cancellations, things second semester. So, uh, saying that that's it's not quite the impact it sounds, but it is certainly something that the we're aware

of is not ideal. Um, which brings me maybe to a couple of these recommendations. So, the first thing to consider, and again, uh, one place where we are off a little bit, our recommendation for the calendar next year, same as it was last month, is that we have a 10-day Christmas break. Uh that would begin on a it'd be two weeks back toback Monday through Friday and those days are the 21st through the 25th and the 28th through the first returning to school on Monday the 4th. Um that's the that winds us up pretty well with South Adams. North Adams is planning to be in session on the 21st and 22nd that Monday and Tuesday and then I think they're not going back. I say this for sure maybe till Wednesday but they're not going

back on Monday. So um South Adams prior to or since our last meeting we we've discussed they have are probably making the decision that they are going to use the 21st and 22nd as makeup days. So that is the difference in the first two options you see there that one of those options does not show us using 21st and 22nd as makeup days. The other one does. My personal recommendation is that we do utilize those as makeup days. Uh the reality is most years uh you're not going to have to use those. This year I'm not sure how we might have proceeded differently. Um if we would have had those days filled in there, we might have used them because we have missed three days of school. Um so that is my recommendation we do

that because if we would lose some days in the fall, that would kind of gain back a couple of what's already a little bit of a shortened first semester for some of those classes. That would be the primary primary reason for that. Now I would add on top of that uh one of the things that I would like to develop and this is I don't think anything that has to be officially approved by you guys but is a little bit more of a direct plan based on okay if we when we miss a day of school for example is our first day for sure going to be automatically that we're going to use that Thanksgiving day or we maybe consider using a virtual learning day and and saving one of those days off and I

think that's probably a topic for future discussion but I think having that Wednesday before Thanksgiving break and these two days on before the excuse me the first two days of Christmas break as options for makeup day just kind of give us a little protection in the event of a a year like we've had this year which I think is probably fair to say is a little not typical. So those would be the first things that I would put out there for you assuming that we make the decision to use the 21st and 22nd as makeup days. If you look at those two options, they both show that we are using Martin Luther King Day as a day off of school, but a potential makeup day. The reality is most likely if we utilize these others

as potential makeup days, we probably are not going to use Martin Luther King Day as a makeup day because, for example, let's say that we missed January 14th. on a Thursday, we're probably not going to turn around and tell kids and families, hey, by the way, you now have to come on Monday. There'll be a cut off date at some point for when we would do that. So bottom line even that first week back you can debate that a little bit but the recommendation and this kind of may be a conversation with South Adams today what they have made the decision or probably going to make a [clears throat] decision to do and you'll see this is the difference on that third calendar option is that we would plan to be in session on Martin

Luther King Day and schedule a makeup day on March 1st which is just a little bit of a unique why would we have a makeup day on March 1st again it's trying to protect that in-person learning um rather than have to use an additional uh virtual learning day. It just gives you one extra day in there. The reality is 99% of years you're going to miss a day sometime in January, February, and you're going to be there on March 1st. Um I think I told Brent today or I told somebody that if we happen to make it all the way through January, February and don't miss a day of school, most people might be ready for a 3-day weekend [clears throat] by that point. Um, but it does give us just it's kind of a

little bit of a protection and it doesn't really change our last day of school or anything else, but it would just kind of serve to possibly give be a little more likely to be actually utilize that as a makeup day. So those are the and I would not recommend that if we don't use the 21st and 22nd as makeup days. That's why that's shown on that calendar. U so I think again my recommendation is that we utilize those days. I understand there might be some thoughts or or different opinions on that. I'm beginning to realize how important this calendar is and make a decision on that and I I know you guys understand that probably even better than I do. Um so that's kind of what I had to share. My recommendation is option three.

Um but I am open for discussion, thoughts, questions, anything I can answer for you about those calendars. So, just to clarify, um, if we did that option three, we would have thanks the day before Thanksgiving, the 21st, the 22nd, and then March 1st. Those would be like our built-in makeup days. >> Yes. >> But you were saying if we we we might not you might suggest that we not use those first. We might use them virtual days. Yeah, I think what I would like to do is put some sort of a little bit of a committee to I I've kind of put something together myself that I think makes sense. Uh but I think in coordination [clears throat] with ACT, maybe get a board member or two involved just to have some discussion on those.

Just as an example, if you let's just say we have to cancel the first day of school next year. Literally, we get fog on day one on August 12th and we have to cancel. You clearly cannot use a virtual learning day that day. So, if that would happen, again, highly unlikely, but if it would, you would just have to say Thanksgiving's gone. Terrible week of fog. We missed day two. Uh, you again cannot use a virtual learning day. So, now we're going on December 21st. Again, the odds of that happening zero, but or not zero, but 1% maybe. Um, so, but once we've been in school, whatever that number of days is, whether that's one week, two weeks, etc., I think there can be discussion of, okay, so how much do we value that day

before Thanksgiving? Do we want to say let's go ahead and use one virtual day. We missed that day because of fog early this year. Maybe let's go ahead and use one virtual day. Protect that day before Thanksgiving for parents, families, students, etc. Um, but I think that's just kind of some discussion we can have on that. I don't think it necessarily has to be an automatic. Um, again, I'd want to maybe talk to the other districts a little bit as well and just see how are they planning to handle that again so we can try to be as consistent with them as we can. Um, but I think again that would maybe be something we try to put a plan together in conjunction with the the principles, the teachers association and and the board to

just kind of get something like that a little bit put in place that we can then share with share with families. So this current year school year, am I remembering correctly, we only had one built-in >> possible makeup day. >> Yes. That >> we used. >> Yes. >> Yeah. And again, I think the intent I think uh as you look down the road, I I think our goal is number one, we're for December 21 and 22, trying to protect a little bit the number of days per semester. Trying to make sure we're protecting as many in-person days as we can get uh without having to get into having too many virtual learning days, which again I I think a virtual learning day is very valuable. I think it's much more valuable the day there than

it is after the AP exam, after the iLearn test. Um, but it's certainly not the same, I think we'd all agree, as it is when you're sitting with the students in the classroom. each one. >> No, I think >> as long as we have a recommendation on one of them and then you would get voted out and I can vote it in but somebody just make a motion on one. My my the the recommendation that I feel is the best to take forward would be calendar number calendar number 30. >> I'll make a motion to vote on C. I'll second >> calendar [clears throat] three. >> Okay. Is there any further clarification or discussion about um calendar 3 from anyone when we the last one we received. So just to go back that's going to

that would be using the December 21st 22nd as makeup days. And then that one would also be proposing that we go on Martin Luther King Day and use March 1st as a um possible makeup day >> and also the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. >> Oh yes, I'm sorry. I did not. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving as well. >> So that would that would leave us with four >> or give us four built-in days >> um in a way or four options. Any anyone else have any clarifying questions on that? Okay. All in favor? >> I oppose. >> Okay. Motion carries. [clears throat] >> Thank you for working on the calendar and I appreciate you trying to >> You know what? enjoy working with the other districts on it. Like I said, I think even hopefully next year

we can just continue to work on that consistency because it really is >> uh especially for high school vocational students that can become in transportation. I know in talking with Dan, it just creates a lot of headaches when we're on different schedules. So, as much as we can I don't think we'll ever get identical identical. Um, I know South Adams is just having some discussions yet on their fall break and what that will look like down the road in the future that that could depending how that goes, that could maybe bring us even a little bit closer together. >> Okay. >> All right. Sounds good. >> Okay. Next, we have the approval of our classified handbook. believe there's just a couple of things that will be going in effect January 1st and that would be

the taking out of the two for one days for um prior to vacations um just like we did in the teacher contract that's being removed and you can correct me if I'm wrong on anything there. Um and then there was a section about the bereavement policy that somehow maybe just was a we're making sure it's in there. It was omitted and were missing. Am I correct? Okay. All right. So, we're just getting that back where it was before. So, there were no major changes besides the two for one really that we are taking out just like the teacher contract. Um, is there a motion to approve the classified handbook? >> I'll make that motion to approve. >> Second. >> All right. Is there any other discussion or questions after looking through the handbook? I I

would add that this is effective January 1. >> Okay. >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Okay. Motion carries. Thanks for working on that, Arita. >> Okay. Next, we have our policy section and we are going to have the approval to for hopefully the approval to forgo reading these policies aloud. Please. Um, [clears throat] is there a motion to to do that? >> I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> All right. All in favor? >> Opposed? >> Okay. So, [clears throat] we Mr. Layman is going to going to take over on this part because uh we do have quite a few things in our first readings. Um, we we didn't discuss that. Do you want to you want to start with the first readings tonight? >> We we can. >> Okay. >>

Actually, they can be done in any order. >> Okay, >> that's fine. >> All right. Okay, I would like to start by saying that with the ones we're doing first reading, they obviously will need a second reading in January, but at that point, you will be caught up and maybe you'll have a couple months off without any of these. Um, but I will start down through there. I am really excited about the first six under first reading because you will notice at the end of each of those it says delete which means those six policies are going away. Now you might be a little concerned because they talk about discrimination and we certainly don't want that to go away. Oh, it doesn't go away. I guarantee it. We'll revisit that in just a little bit.

But the first six are deletion. Uh the seventh one on the list is 0142 and that actually has to do with the election of school board members. You can now be 18 years old and run for the school board. Uh that's a change in state law. Um and it used to be 21. Now it's 18. The other change is now they are asking about your political affiliation. Not sure what that has to do with school, but it passed. So when you run for school board, you get to say I'm affiliated with the Republicans or I'm affiliated with the Democrats. You can say I'm an independent or you can actually choose not to disclose, which it is. Um, those are the new rules and obviously that changes our policies on what you need to do to

be eligible. Again, nothing we're changing. The state law changed that. So that's 0142. And you can stop me on any of these. Ask a question as we go through here. Um, the next one on the list, number eight, is 0144.1. And this has to do with the amount of money you're paid for this wonderful position uh that you chose to be a part of. Uh, that has been a set amount maximum for many years. The state changed that and now it can be as much as 10% of a first year's teacher pay. Now, I want to let you know that tonight you're simply changing the policy to match state law. You will get to set your pay in January at the organizational meeting. So, you'll have to decide if you're going to give yourselves a

raise or uh what you're going to do. >> I've been on 21 years and I still don't want to get paid. So, [laughter] >> so I don't know we've ever been shown going to get paid. >> Most most board members are that way because it's not about the pay. They have chosen to serve the community. Um but again, we need to have our policy in line with that. Uh the ninth one on the list 0167.2 to again procedural it adds three more things that can be discussed in executive session. Um healthc care options can now be discussed in an executive session. Handbook changes those are actually under the same heading. Uh you can actually uh if you're going to have publicly bid contracts, you can review all of that in executive session and you can

talk about proposals to solicit contracts now in executive session. So those those are simply three changes to what is and I will tell you the law is very strict about what you can do in an executive session and um these three have now been added to that. Now, I mentioned that we deleted six and we come to 1422 and I'm going to go ahead and talk about and 4122 which are farther out down in the list. Hopefully, we've been through enough of these that you're going, "Aha, I bet you those are the same policies. One for administrators, one for classified, and one for certified." You're exactly right. Those are the new discrimination policies. They took all of the information about discrimination and put it into three policies instead of all those ones we deleted. So

there really isn't any change in the language. It all still meets federal law and the expectations of how you work with children. None of that has changed. They have just now put them in three separate policies. So for those who may be keeping score, that's number 10 on the list. Uh number uh 14 on the list and number uh 18 on the list. 2260. [clears throat] This is now because there's been a change in polic politics in Washington. The definition of sex is back to male female. They've taken out the language that we all put in [clears throat] previously and who knows what the next election will do, but the definition of sex is back to the gender status of male female. Um 2260.01, 01. It's a policy again prohibiting any sort of discrimination. And

this one is specifically with 504. And these are students that have possibly a physical handicap and have special uh supports that they need. Um, the only change is they've added the word that you should prioritize safety when dealing with these things. Again, as I've said many times in here, I'm not sure why some of these things have to be said. I mean, why would you not prioritize safety when you're dealing with children? But the federal's law says this needs to be in our policy. So, in it goes. And then 2266. Um, this one's some of these are really difficult. Um, this one has to do with sex education. And there's a term that's been used for many years referred to as fondling. That term is no longer used. It's now criminal sexual contact, which obviously

just changed this whole policy because they had to change the terminology. Um, those are the policies we all hope we never ever have [clears throat] to bring out of our policy manual and read. Okay, that moves us to 3220 [clears throat] and that is on teacher evaluation. In the past, the state required that you have highly effective effective distinction between your teachers. They threw that out. You can now have whatever evaluation system you use uh want to use. Uh there's no longer the four categories. You can name whatever you want to name them. You you have that latitude. I would mention I was going to do this at the end, but since we're talking about teacher evaluation, we do every year have to make a public comment about what are we doing. For years, Adam

Central has used the rise model. Adam Central continues to use the rise model which does have highly effective effective um and so on. But the thing is now Adam Central could choose to spend some time looking at that and decide some new system because the state has backed off on their expectations for that. That's why that policy was changed. We go down to 3220.01. Several months ago, we deleted the tag teacher appreciation grant policy because they threw it out. Well, we knew this was coming because they created a new teacher appreciation grant. This one is very different than the old one. In this one, the state says we cannot reward more than 20% of our teachers. Interestingly enough, when they figured out the money, they didn't have enough. So, no school gets to award 20%

of their teachers because nobody's getting enough money. >> Um, which doesn't surprise me. But Adam Central based on our teacher population has been awarded $48,000. The difference now is teachers have to apply and show growth of student work to be awarded and Aaron's going to talk about this more under the superintendent report because this is also something that he has taken the leadership on and uh has put Adam Central in a good position to move forward with this. But um there will be enough money to award 14 teachers in the district. Those awards could be $3500, $5,000, or $7,500. Now, I will tell you, if there are people that get the $7500, there won't be 14 awards because there's only so much money. But it's there. there's $48,000 and a process has been put in

place uh to make that work. So, we now have to have a policy that puts all that in place. Um um is kind of an interesting change. There are teachers who tutor students. What the state is now saying is if you teach English and this student is in your class, you cannot be their tutor. In other basically, they're saying you can't be paid more to do what you're supposed to be doing in class. Now, I might be the English teacher and I have that student in class, but they would like me to help them with math. I can do that. I just can't help them with the specific subject. They're in my class. Now, let me be real clear. the student could be in another teacher's English class and as an English teacher I could

tutor them because they're not in my class. Um, so that's 3231 uh 4162. I went through this one with Dan Weber. has to do with federal CDL and our bus drivers and the Fed made some changes to their policies. We just brought ours up in line with theirs. I went [clears throat] through with Dan. None of them an issue for us. All of our people are good to go and u which didn't surprise me. Uh but it was it was good to talk with him about all that. student uh 5350. Um we all know that we've been talking about student suicide and teachers have to go through training on student suicide. They have always recommended a plan um of how you would address this and how you would act. What is your action plan? Well,

it's no longer optional. You have to have a plan. Well, we do. So, we have to put it in policy, but we're already ahead of the game. We're already there. 5830. I I think we may want to take a little time on this one because of some other things that arose and I had to dig into this policy [cough] because I think we do have some raffles and things like that that go on. I don't know how pe many people are aware of it, but in Indiana [clears throat] it is illegal for someone to participate in the raffle or other games like that if they're under 18. So, I don't know if we've ever looked at that before, but we definitely need to look at it now. What that's saying is you might be able

to have a raffle, but your kids who are under 18 can't buy any tickets because that's actually illegal for them to do that. The law also says that for the most part, people who are under 18 shouldn't even be selling tickets. Except when you get down to the bottom of that law, it says, "But you can make the decision to let kids sell them." I don't know why you would write a law like that, but I mean, that's okay. So, we need to bring our policy in line with that. And the other thing that's in that law that in my looking I don't think we have done those are all called games of chance. We've all been a part of them. There is an application that should be filed with Indianapolis in order to do

those. I don't think we have any of that. We would not be the only ones that haven't stepped through that hoop. But I think it is something we would need to step forward and do. So I guess the big question I have with this policy is the state does allow us to let first of all the state doesn't allow anybody under 18 to buy tickets, but the state would allow us to let kids sell those raffle tickets um as part of a a group or whatever. So that becomes the question that the board will need to talk about. >> Let's say a basketball game. Guy lands a half court shot. He says, "I don't want to shoot." He lets his son. I mean, breaking the rules there. That's happened a lot. [laughter] It doesn't say

they can't participate in that piece, but that those are the examples that Audrey and I would sit down and talk about as to that. Um, but that that's a good example because now you the student didn't buy the ticket, but the student is the one taking the shot. So, what does that look like? And uh I think the big thing there is the purchase of the ticket, but we would have to dig in. That's a great question. That's why it's on the agenda for tonight. [laughter] Other questions or other things or even just things? You know what? You ought to think about this because that's what Audrey and I need. Well, as because we've had one meeting, we're obviously going to Well, we might have one more, but then somebody else will have for next

week. >> I I go ahead. >> Well, I know we talked about elections and all that and I know when they put that on that you could register with the party. I called Travis Holman's a couple times. Never returned. He never returned my calls. But I always felt Adam Central were a great school. We're independent school and I look at the way our Congress and everything is going right now. Do you really want to start putting additional behind our name and be like Washington is? So I I would urge I'm not running again, but I would urge that people I would like to see independence or nothing at all. And I'm when this was first going through the legislature, I was really really concerned about that. I didn't know they were going to give the

option of not posting. Um I I'm guessing in some areas that might be a detriment. I too agree. I don't think that's a detriment in Adams County, Indiana. Anything else on the fundraiser that you can think of we need to consider? >> I guess maybe just a thought is if we did change something like that, how many different groups would we be affecting? you know, I don't, you know, like how many different organizations or, you know, would we be hurting our students in in some way that we need to be considering like and I don't know exactly if we could get numbers on that, you know, as far as [clears throat] because people change. >> I think we can certainly come up with that. >> I think it would be something for us to consider.

We don't want to hurt groups, but we also need to be following what the law is as far as on some of these situations. I'm sure it's real easy to sell raffle tickets and yet, you know, sell them to someone who's under 18 and not even know that you were doing something you shouldn't be doing. other things. >> Just to clarify that as well, there's a there's a difference when we're talking about students selling tickets and decision on that versus adults selling rapid tickets as part of a booster club. >> Correct. >> We're not we don't have to worry about that aspect of it. It's more the decision. Are we going to go to the bottom of that policy and allow students to continue doing that? Which again, I think is what you're asking. How

many student groups >> do we currently have doing that? Quite honestly, I don't know that we have a lot of school groups. I would say just being asked over the years to buy raffle tickets. It's much more frequent I've asked for a 4 group, a a a baseball team, uh somewhere like that than student groups. Um I can quite honestly off the top of my head I can only think of one or two that school groups are selling raffle tickets so to speak. So it may not be as but I think it's something we can try to find that out and I would offer my this is Brent Layman and you certainly can do whatever down the road but I I would want to make sure we're doing what the law says and still giving

as much opportunity as we can within those guidelines. I don't think we want to make it more stringent than it would necessarily need to be. That would be my my take on that. This this is why we have first readings. Gives you a chance to think about it. reach out to myself and and it may be one too that when it comes back at the January meeting, just know you may not be ready for the official vote at the January meeting. It may need more conversation and that too is fine. Um, moving on. Uh, 6550. This one has Oh, I did skip one. Thank you. Uh 5630.01 uh seclusion and restraint. This is a really small change, but what we learned was our policy and the one at the co-op, we're obviously part of the

co-op. Our policies weren't quite exactly the same. Ours said when you have a meeting after an incident, absolutely everybody has to be in that meeting. The co-op's policy said the coordinator and at least one other person who was there need to debrief afterwards. We will certainly still continue to get as many people to the table as you can, but you can imagine after school, it's pretty hard to get absolutely everybody. And our policy right now says everybody that was involved. The change is to make us like the co-op in that that meeting will still take place and it will have as many people as can reasonably make it to that meeting. So that's what Thank you, Marin. That's what that one is about. Um 6550 travel payment and reimbursement. Uh Dawn brought this one to

me um because there was a question about when somebody goes somewhere, how much can you spend for breakfast, how much can you spend for lunch and whatever. Um, I looked back through the old policies and she looked back through. There was a time when there was an amount in the policy and then at some point the policy got changed and all it said was it just needs to be what a prudent person would do. And I don't know what that was all about, but here's what I think it should say because we would all have a different opinion of what a prudent amount is. What I would recommend this says is the policy would say that the board will set those amounts and when you have your organization meeting in January [clears throat] each year,

>> what is the amount? Because I I think the old one was $10 and $15 and $20 or something. I got news for you. I don't think you can buy lunch for $15 anymore even at McDonald's. So what what is a reasonable amount and you would not put it in policy? It's just you would set that amount and if you feel like you need to change it, then you can change it. I don't think it's good policy to just say, "Yeah, it ought to be a reasonable amount." You need to set an amount, but you want to be have the freedom to set that as needed. Um is why that one is on there. um 7455 in this policy. All they did is they added a reference to the state board of accounts. Why that

was not a technical correction, I have no idea. 7530. Um this is an interesting one. Prior to me coming, uh South Adams had a problem one day with some buses. So Dan loaned him some buses and maybe just one. I don't remember, which was awesome, except our policy says we can't do that. [laughter] Um, so the only change here is it's still saying we can't be loaning out our equipment, but it will specifically say accept buses and only to South Adams and North Adams if they're having a problem. We want to be good neighbors. So that's why that policy changes here. Now there's another little piece to that. Our insurance company wasn't very happy that we let somebody else drive our buses. So Audra is working on that side of it in we need some

kind of a document that the three schools sign that we all just know, you know what, if we're using your bus and we wreck it, we're we're responsible to get it fixed, which everybody would do. but our insurance company says that should be in writing. Um, so this is kind of twofold. We're going to change the policy and we're also then going to have an agreement that we all know who's going to cover that. So, we don't want to change that we can help our neighbors. We just need to make sure we're not going against our policy. Um, any any questions? um 7540.02. I wrote in my notes, the best thing I can say about this change is Debbie does all of this. Okay. Um there are more and more requirements that our websites and

things have to be handicap accessible. The website has to have the reader on it and enlarging and all that. Debbie spends hours trying to keep us current. Um, but we do now have to make our stuff accessible. And that's what that policy says. Um, 8452. Again, it's not an option to write a plan about your automatic defibrillators. You have to have a plan. We do not plan. [clears throat] So, again, the policies are actually catching up with us. Um 8455, this one came up interesting. It's about volunteer background checks because we have teachers who need a background check and we have coaches that need a background check and we have volunteer coaches that need a background check and then we have volunteers the the mom that comes in uh to help in a classroom or

ride along on a field trip. Well, there are two kinds of background checks there. one they call limited and then there's one they call whatever the term >> extended. The teachers have to have extended and our coaches have to have extended. We also do not want to go through the whole extended for our people who come to the building occasionally because there is a cost. So the the the little bit of conflict here in the building and the dilemma is what about our volunteer coaches? They spend extensive time with our kids and they really should have an extended background check. There is a cost to getting an extended background check. the volunteer coaches don't get paid anything. So the recommendation is we do our volunteer limited ones every year for the parents that want to

come in the building. Our teachers still get their extended ones. Our coaches do. But we would now require our volunteer coaches to get an extended background check. But we as a school would cover that cost. Um I I don't feel it's appropriate for someone who's volunteering and getting no pay to have to spend I don't know $40, something like that, or a [clears throat] little more to to get a a a check. So again, we continue to think about that, but that's what this policy change is about in that the school would would cover that. And the last one, 8462. Um, for many years now, staff are required to report suspected child abuse. And unfortunately, that happens. The state law has changed. It now also says any volunteer working in the school, if they suspect

something, they need to report it. um which is a good thing, but it'll take a little training on our part to help people understand what that means. But again, that's a state law change that now even our volunteers are expected to report things and and they may they're on a field trip somewhere or they hear something, they they need to report that. So, any other questions? [clears throat] Did I skip another one? Oh, I I crossed I I did skip that one deliberately. 7440.01 is on the list. Um I need to spend more time on that one because it's already on for approval tonight on second reading, which means multiple changes have come. So, we're not going to do multiple things. I will put that together. All of the versions. This is what happens when

you get behind on your versions. So, that one's not going to be on second reading. Um, we could we could we already did a first reading on the first change. We could do a first reading, which I guess will be all right tonight. Um, it simply has to do with our electronic monitoring. And what it's saying is if you're using the smart sensors, that's not a negotiable thing. You're not going to sit down and debate whether or not you're doing it. If the safety plan says do it, that's the change. So, I guess we can leave it as a first reading, but I will work on combining the old changes and this change into something that could be second reading in January [clears throat] if that makes sense. Okay, other questions? That was brutal. >>

Sorry. >> It's okay. Got to be done. All right. I if everyone's okay, we'll we'll move to the second readings of the following, which I did not hear any feedback. Mr. Layman did not hear any feedback. So, I'm going to read these numbers that are our second reading and we will see if there's a motion to approve those. 3120.02 O2 4120 5540.01 5540.02 02 6111 7455 Are we going to we're going to skip that one right? >> Um 8120 9150 and 9160. Again, last month we went over all of these in detail, but um you know, I think you had a lot of time to take a look at those. So, is there a motion um to approve those at the at the second reading? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> All

right. Is there any further discussion on any of those that I just any of those policies I just read? Okay. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. Okay. Motion carries. All right. We're going to move on to our administrator reports. Um and we're going to start with our elementary. >> Um yeah, I want to invite everyone to attend our music program Thursday night. Grades 1, 2, and three. We'll have theirs was the night before Christmas program at 7 o'clock. I want to highlight our fifth dimensions and our fifth grade band for their performance last evening. Um, and thank our um band directors and choir directors for the work they put in with those children. Um, thank you to the PTO for um they've provided snacks for kids, helping decorate hallways, um snacks for teachers, all

kinds of things that they do. So, I want to thank them for all of that. Um, also we've had a lot of parent volunteers in the building who are helping decorate, make the make it a special time for holidays. Um, I want to thank our teachers for keeping our kids in business mode today. I was doing an observation and right in the middle of a lesson, a student says, "Did you know there's 16 days till Christmas?" And the teacher had to acknowledge that and then try to to wrangle them all back in. So, they're excited and it's hard to keep them focused, but um teachers are working really hard to do that. So, um lots of good things going on in the building. Um end of the semester testing. We've been using Hegerty phenemic awareness

in preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade. Now, for this is the third year. So, students are getting a sequential very explicit um instruction daily from their teachers. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes and the data that we're seeing over the course of that time as students have come through that is looking really good that our students are getting that nice solid foundation. So, we're super excited to see that finish up. So, just well done to everybody for hanging in there and making it a great semester. >> Thank you. Uh middle school and high school. >> Well, I'd like to highlight our CTE tours. Um we had um North Adams and South Adams come to our school to to our programs and see our programs and then we were able to take our sophomores to

North Adams and South Adams to see their programs. Um and I was able to go on the tour as well and I just really enjoyed seeing um what's offered from all three schools. Um our students have a lot of opportunities and it was neat to hear firsthand from the teachers and to see um the building. So that was a pretty awesome experience for us. Um, we want to recognize the work of our choir with the performance Ice Quest this past weekend. If you saw that, they did a really nice job um with those presentations as well as our band and choir um last night um with the musical performance there too. And then our winter athletics, if you haven't seen our parking lot um tonight, you would know that is up and running. Um so

I think about any night if you're bored at home looking for something to do, there's something happening at Adam Central. So you could come and join us here. Still working on that 26 27 school year. Guidance is um finishing up in your classes ready. We are on schedule, probably even a little bit ahead of schedule, ready to get into those classes next semester to start scheduling. They've been working hard on that. We are having finals next week on Thursday and Friday. Those will be run as extended schedules. So they will be block schedules and a day on Thursday, a bday on Friday. And then we will end Friday um just with a whole merry Christmas um with all of our students by moving SAP to the end of the day. So that even though we

are staying in business mode up until the end, that last hour and a half, we'll be able to all um celebrate together um before we go on to Christmas break. Okay, thank you. All right, we're moving on to [clears throat] our superintendence report. I think we might have a couple of those tonight. We're tag team tonight. Harry, you're up. >> So, I've got two things to share. I'll start with uh high school, middle school pickup, drop off. Uh I think you guys are pretty involved in maybe some discussion of that probably going back probably a little well over a year now before the construction started. So, uh you go back to that point, we were dropping and pick dropping off picking up students for high school, middle school on the east side of the building.

um that obviously with the construction had to move to the north side. Uh which after kind of some further conversation on that does sound like there's probably just some it's pretty congested back there especially in the afternoons when you have the elementary traffic, middle school, high school traffic. Um so uh we are planning right after Christmas break that we will move that traffic pattern for middle school and high school elementary won't change in middle school high school back to the east side of the building. So you'll people will come in there by the county highway department uh come up right there near the student activity center pool entrance hanging left drop off down by the uh door I think it's E1 which is down by the bank corner southeast corner of the building down the

alleyway and then out. So um that is the plan. I know Mr. Mendoza was working to make sure everybody's kind of aware of that that needs to be aware of that. Uh Mrs. court is going to get a kind of some information out. She's with Mr. Mallister to make sure our parents are aware of that and I'm sure after break we'll have some people still back there in the back. So, we'll try to make it a point to just kind of get that redirected. Hopefully by the end of the first week or so everybody's back on that same pattern. Uh that does continue to present just I think a few issues over there on that that we just need to pay attention to. Um we do have just a couple as you're probably aware maybe

blind spots as you walk out. If you walk out what I would call the freshman hallway, um there's just a as the traffic's coming through there, just if a kid would run out there and kind of the same thing down here by the by the pool doors, we try to direct kids out for especially those being picked up out those south east doors, but occasionally you have kids whether they're going to the deli, wherever they're going, they just kind of take off out whatever door seems to be available. So, um, that obviously we still have to stay diligent on traffic safety before and after school, but, uh, I think that'll probably clean a little bit up out in the north parking lot. So, that is the plan, uh, to proceed with that. Um, so I'm

just kind of giving you that update, but are there any questions on that? All right. Um, other thing I want to maybe expand just a little bit um, on the teacher appreciation grant which are those tag dollars Mr. Layman was referencing a little bit ago. We're going to do a presentation for staff on that tomorrow um, tomorrow morning during professional development. A little more information. So again, as he said, we got about $48,000 when you divide that uh, up by what the required amounts are. We don't have any flexibility on those amounts. he was saying the 3500 and so on and so forth. um our plan and I so basically let me just to give you a quick and there's I can give you a lot more detail uh down the line as you would

like to have that but basically to qualify for that tier one grant you have to be able to provide evidence that you have significantly impacted student achievement and that can be done in a variety of ways that might be through some of the obvious like the iLearn testing AP testing some local assessments or just a variety of ways that that can be shown shown uh to go into the tier 2 and tier three categories. It gets a little more specific in that you have had to mentor a teacher. You have to be serving in a kind of a high need area and the state defines high need as as special ed, STEM, those sorts of things. Um our plan is that this year and most schools are kind of in the same boat. We're trying

to scramble here just a little bit to make sure we're following the guidelines. is that our intent going in uh this is not a guarantee but our intent is to recognize as many teachers as we can which as Mr. Layman said is about 14. Um if we would do tier 2 tier three it would obviously impact the number of people we can reward. So um now that that decision could be impacted by how many people apply, how many people are qual have qualify. Uh but the intent I think this first year is we're probably going to try to give out 14 tier one awards which again would be $3,500. So again, I'm going to present this to the staff tomorrow morning with some more detail. Those who would like to apply, it's not required, uh

but if they would like to apply, we're going to have them do that by January 6th. So they mostly have a 4-week period. uh we will collect those um and if those applications will then as much as we can I'm going to serve as the coordinator of that evaluation committee. Um Mr. Riley, Mr. Mallister, Mrs. Zish, Mrs. McCall will serve as the evaluators. Uh we did have some discussion with the teachers association about whether or not they would have representation on that committee. We kind of came to a joint decision that for the evaluation purposes it made sense to have our administrators do that. Uh, so we'll have a a two to three week period timeline where we evaluate those as much as we can. We're going to try to keep teachers names off the

application that they see. Now, sometimes when you if you're sharing your third grade data or your seventh grade English, sometimes that just in a small district like that, that's going to become a little bit apparent who that is. Um, obviously if Mrs. McCall is looking at some third grade data, she might recognize that, but Mrs. may not realize what third grade teacher that is. And the same thing on the opposite end of the building. So, um, and we're going to have kind of a review process that we think, uh, uh, will have some transparency to it to make sure that's a fair selection process. Um, we will we are required by January 31 to have all those names of those staff members submitted to the state. Um, and then I believe, if I remember right,

maybe April, we're supposed to we would actually get that $48,000. And we're saying that within 60 days then we would distribute those dollars to the teachers. I assume every property of one lump sum is how we would do that or um make sense. So So that's kind of a little bit more of a detailed synopsis. I've got four or five documents, multiple pages that maybe I think probably need to get what I've shared with you guys probably need to get sent out to you guys. So you can look those over a little more too just for FYI. But does anybody have any additional questions right now that I could share on that future appreciation grant which kind of you hear the word tag and that's what that's referring to. I'll pass it back over to

you. Uh and I get the honor to talk about Jeff Sulner has joined us again tonight. Um and I [clears throat] just want to give an update and then Jeff you may have more to add. Um, you'll remember that there was a presentation about a gospel memorial here, which is a great idea. And I want to emphasize that I've not come across anybody who's not interested in making this happen. Um, which is really cool. But we've been working trying to decide, we've run into a few hurdles. Uh, for example, the width of the easement out on 124 is maybe a little wider than we thought it might be. And obviously the state won't let us stick something in the Eastman, but that's that's nothing that we can't work around. The town has become involved with

Jeff meeting with them and they have some thoughts and ideas of how they would maybe want to be a part of this. Um Jeff has been doing all the leg work. He talked about uh securing this jet. Well, he's learned of another avenue where he could possibly get a jet faster if I understood. >> That's correct. >> correctly. Um, and that would be that would be really good. So, he's pursuing that. We're working on the back end trying to work on the logistics. Um, but that we are not in any position to make any decisions yet tonight. But I just wanted to make sure we keep it on the front burner and that it is a really great thing. Jeff, would you like to say something tonight? >> Yes, if I could. I just like

to elaborate on this new option. And [clears throat] essentially what it involves, I was talking with the curator of the Air Force National Museum and he suggested we do the same thing that Union Local did, the the high school over in by Columbus that just recently got that 60 and that was apply through the government surplus agency. Okay. Now what was left unsaid in this conversation was the fact that they had made a presentation to the museum. You know they were like 5030 in line and they were wanting to move up in any way possible. They demonstrated that they had already raised all their money. They had contracted for transportation and they were ready to go. Well, this is unusual. It doesn't normally happen that way. So, the Air Force Museum said, "Why don't you

put an application in for government surplus?" In the meantime, the museum goes to the people in charge of iron flow at the Pentagon with the US Air Force and says, "We think we have a great opportunity for a static display in a local community, and we want to do the same thing." I want to tell you in this situation rather than getting a jet loan to you by the museum which has yearly requirements and who wants that um you actually own this aircraft now in [clears throat] this situation after discussions with Mr. Layman and Mr. Mr. Cler, we all agree that the town of Monroe would probably be best suited to be the requesting agency for the static display through the government surplus. They would work with the Indiana state agency in charge of government

surplus. So, this is all down the road, but effectively what I'll be asking you as a board to decide is, are you willing to go ahead and potentially lease a piece of ground to the town of Monroe who may have a jet to sit on top of a memorial that we've already erected? So, that's kind of where you as a board uh will get involved. I will tell you I may still want the school system to put in a application with the Air Force as a placeholder until we get all our fundraising done and everything else. And that that's on the AC, Veterans of Memorial and Stag Display, Inc. Uh we want to ensure that neither the town of Monroe or the school corporation is responsible for any funding associated with this project. Okay. So,

this is new information, but I wanted to bring you up to date. Uh, we're pretty much in violent disagreement. This is the best way to go. Okay. Any other further questions for me? >> If I have any questions at this time yet? Um, I'm sure more will come as we get [clears throat] get to that. Thank you, Jeff. Okay. >> I appreciate your diligence and continuing to source other ways of receiving things. >> This is all going to be fun. >> Yeah. >> Um the only other thing I have for my report tonight is I want to thank the board for indulging this old guy um and some of my differing ways of doing things. Uh it really has been a joy to come and work. Um, retirement's really good. I I want to emphasize

that. But, uh, it has, it really has a joy working with all of you. And, uh, I also want to say you've made a great choice. Aaron and I have spent many hours together. And, um, you've made a great choice for your next superintendent. And I also want to take the opportunity to say, Mike, thank you. Um, some of us chose to be in education for a living. and do that. You've volunteered um for a number of years, many years, uh to serve on this board and and that that leadership and that knowledge will be missed. I will tell the rest of the board it will truly be missed. So, on my part, I want to say thank you to you, Heather. I I will >> Yes, we of course want to thank you, Mike.

I'm not sure what we're going to do without you because when we need to know something that's in the past, the history of why this decision was made or how it was made. So, you might want to just uh keep that texting open that we might need to block. [laughter] >> No blocking. No blocking because you have you've helped us learn a lot of things that you know when we weren't on board or how things used to be done and how things might have changed over time. And we do have something for you. For 20 years of service, I think this is welld deserved. So there you go. And hopefully you can find a place to put that. And we really do appreciate all that you have done for us um for the 20 years.

[laughter] So thank you. [applause] put in perspective. I started in January of05 and that's my oldest son. He started kindergarten [laughter] in August. >> And what a good reason to be on board, right? >> Yeah. So, >> well, thank you. Thank you very much. >> Yeah. If you want to say anything else like a full speech, you know, give or [laughter] never been a big talker. No reason to start now. [laughter] >> Oh, and Mr. Layman, we want to thank you too for just being a leader for us. We have needed that leadership and it's been greatly appreciated over the last few months. You've taken us through a lot. So, thank you for leading us and getting us on the right path. And we appreciate all the help. >> You're You're welcome. It's a path.

IT'S STILL AMAZING. I DO HAVE HIS CELL PHONE NUMBER. >> I think we all are not deleting that one either. [laughter] >> He's not allowed to use it at 5:00 in the morning. That That's understandable. Um and I don't want to leave any other board member out that might want to say a few things. So, please like feel free to if you'd like to jump in right now. >> Well, I appreciate Mike's dedication over the years to Adam Central and its community. It's it's um there's some big shoes to fill um with decision- making and your historic knowledge [laughter] of what has gone on at this school, not only from your time being on the board, but I think when you started kindergarten [laughter] till now and knowing some of that. So, um I appreciate

that fact. I too like the history part of Adam syndrome and and it's amazing to me how much knowledge you have of this school system even prior to with generations of family coming through. Yeah, the school system has been absolutely amazing and doing so I appreciate best of luck to you not having to come to the spare time. [laughter] >> He's probably going to come and sit in the crowd necklace. >> Um I do want to thank Mr. layman as well for answering a very random phone call um while on vacation >> in Mexico of all places of of getting sell service. Um so again I I appreciate again you taking on maybe more of a challenge than what was expected at times but um never daunted and wanting to improve and help us get

through some tough situations. So I you know from myself as well I I truly appreciate um the guidance you've given us and the leadership that you bestow upon us as well. >> All right. Anyone else? I don't want to leave anybody out. All right. If there's nothing else I don't think I've missed anything here. Um, but our next meeting is January 13th, uh, 700 p.m. And, um, we do need a motion to adjourn. [laughter] >> All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carries. Thanks all everyone for being here tonight.
