is Chris Jolly. 50 years 50 years. Yeah. picture So any words you know a lot of who was the president 50 years ago? [laughter] >> I don't remember. Yeah. >> Nixon >> [laughter] >> He just resigned. >> Well any any words any reflections? >> No, I just I I've loved working here and being a part of the corporation and um I spent 40 great years in the music department and then got moved to the high school and I actually loved that just as much because I went from a place where the kids wanted to be there to a place where when they're in my office they don't necessarily want to be there. But they need love too and they need help and encouragement and so it's been great working with the people that try to
do that with them. >> Well making changes you know mid-career even beyond is never easy but you did a great job and I was always appreciative of that. I think I I told you that. So yeah. Um but thank you. Um next we have Amy Blake. Amy we actually um We have we have two things here. So um Amy 33 years of uh service and um uh really let me let me read them what this says and actually let me read I'm going to go back this is uh um let me read this Chris Jolly in recognition of appreciation, 50 years of outstanding dedication and service to our school community, her professionalism, wisdom, and kindness that has left a lasting impact on our school and the countless lives she touched along the way. With sincere
gratitude and best wishes for a joyful retirement. Now Dr. Amy Blake. So, it this says with deepest gratitude for your years of distinguished service, your poise, calming influence, and thoughtful mentorship have left an an indelible mark on our team. Thank you for setting the standard of professionalism and grace. May your retirement be filled with the same reassuring peace, happiness, and joy that you brought to all of us. And I think that last line really sums it up is, you know, you and people don't know, but the director of special education, some of these are really intense meetings and tough meetings and challenges. Uh and you have a way of making feel pe- people feel like it's going to be okay. And especially in the the hardest of times, and that's that's a rare quality. Uh
and so, whenever I got stressed, I would call Amy and say, [laughter] "Hey, make me feel okay." >> All right, same tuning. >> [laughter] >> Thank you. And Kirk, um the last 33 years, and we um we already gave you the the plaque. Do you have gum still on it or is the gum off? All right, I I you know, it's probably 50 years when you you hit click on it and it when it clicks instead of mushes, you know it's been there a while. Um so, uh Kirk, we do have a a certificate for you and just wanted to recognize you. I love the fact that we were able to celebrate you because um one of your your motto was celebrating our people and it's been that way for you know since you were
a middle school principal and I thought at commencement it was a great time to celebrate a great man that's really made an impact on our school and our corporation. So I love the fact that it was woven into the celebration and well deserved. So but we wanted we do these here and I get to read this. do these here it's not the same as what I read but that's okay. Um Let me see I think I don't have it. I do I do I do. I'm going to read it. So [clears throat] it says with deepest gratitude Mr. Ammon thank you for anchoring our school with your integrity, brightening our days with your infectious laughter and constantly finding new ways to celebrate and elevate our students and staff. Your leadership throughout the transition has been
a master class in grace and your smile a constant source of encouragement. You haven't just led this school you champion the people within it. Go Trojans. So um >> Nice shoes. >> I found them in my office. >> [laughter] >> Special day just for this occasion. Custom. Awesome. >> I would as you're as we're going through we've got two more and if you'd like to say something then you know you're I don't I want to make sure that people have the opportunity to to say something about any of the people that we've recognized. Um the last two um work closely with us and it's hard, you know, every Monday we talk and we we've heard about all of you. Have we Gail? Have we really? Yes, we have. Um, and so >> [laughter] >> we
have and you've you've learned a lot about my family, too. So, um, but it's been fantastic and um, that that partnership and that relationship is special and that's what helps make the work go and that's what helps us come to work and and have fun, you know, have fun and and know that we're doing good things for good people. So, Leah Melton in recognition of Leah Melton's service to the Newcastle Community School Corporation, whether solving problems, supporting employees, or sharing well-timed laugh, she led with both heart and excellence. Her hard work and positive spirit helped shape a workplace where people felt valued and supported. With sincere appreciation for her her many years of contribution and her best and best wishes for happiness and fulfillment in retirement. So, we we actually gave you these as well
and um, I want you to come up and and get a picture here. >> [laughter] >> And you're right, it is work family. It it is. It's we got family and we got work family. And so, last we've got Gail Edwards and I will say, I don't want to forget this, but um, I will miss all of you. And when I went tonight I made a sign that said executive session, you know, we'll be out in a few minutes or something along those lines. I went to go put it on and it was already on there and Gail Gail had have taken care of it. And that's kind of the the thing is always one step ahead. And that's that's a rare quality. It's kind of like that radar and mash, you know, that's just
always got the thing, got the thing, and got keeps everything going. So, um Gail Edwards, in appreciation for your leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment, for your dedication has strengthened our schools, uploaded our staff, and changed the lives of countless students and families, ensuring every student had the support they needed to thrive. Thank you for making a difference that will never be forgotten. Gail Edwards. Yep. Any body Any retirees want to talk? We kind of went went through that, but if you'd like to give >> I had no doubt. >> speech >> [laughter] >> I just want to say I always chime in a little bit, but I've been on the school board the longest. Jamie was there when I started, but he came and went. So, yeah. Um I worked with Amy, and we've gone
to a couple of things together. And you know, it says people take care of the least of these, and that's Amy. And she's she Yeah, very good at sectional work. And the other thing with people that work here, um it's hard for all of you to know what goes on behind the scenes, but this is a group effort. I mean, everybody here is necessary and does a tremendous job. And when times have gotten tough, everybody just pulled their weight and more. And it's it's it's been um an honor to be at this board with you guys. >> Yeah, I was in junior high band with Chris. >> [laughter] >> And we raised raised two band members with her assistance and and there's no one more dedicated >> Thank you. >> to what she does. >>
I was terrified with Chris as the first year teacher. But as first shared administrator, she saved my butt. >> Yeah, I would just say for uh uh Mr. Ammon, uh appreciate your support um in the high school. Uh I was an assistant coach on the football team and I know if you've ever seen me on that football team, you'd know it's it is an event. And I can it can be very hard to support sometimes, [laughter] uh but I always felt supported uh by Kirk at all times, even during some tough times. So, I appreciate that. Appreciate uh the the kids you've raised. Uh my daughter is interacts with your uh Kayson all the time and and they're friends and uh just a great family and uh appreciate everything that you've done uh for school
and and for me. >> Thank you. >> You've all made a great impact. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> If you have dinner reservations or things that you'd like to do, and that would be a probably a good time unless somebody else wants to, you know, make a comment. Um now's a good time to to uh exit right, I guess. >> [laughter] >> Katie, see you. See you. And thank you families for supporting us through your family members. You guys take care. >> You guys take care. Thanks, Winnie. >> Thank you. >> Take care, Chris. >> Thanks, Chris. >> Keep an eye on her, Bill. >> [laughter] >> I'll be here. >> First time I met her in the classroom, she was graduating one year apart. I was tickled because I helped people achieve telling
[laughter] cool jokes. >> The youngest nieces and nephews are the other ones that are like >> Yeah. >> But you remember? >> She caught my eye. >> Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> Thanks for sharing [laughter] all of that. [clears throat] >> That's right. >> Thank you. >> Bill? >> [laughter] >> He's driving me around, right? >> We're going to have [laughter] to do our best. >> Now, for the really fun stuff. Yeah, the final reading of the school board policies. Does anybody have any questions or I move we approve the final reading of the updated school board policies. >> I'll let Josh have the second. [clears throat] All in favor? >> Aye. >> Uh and then we'll move on to the approval of all new CCHA board policies >> So moved. >>
Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Uh next we have the food service um approval of the smart systems contract. >> And that is the contract for all of the chemicals that we use in the food service department and they service our dish machines. So, we have used them several years. They also provide continuing education for our employees every month, so >> Any questions or comments on that? >> I move to approve the smart systems contract. >> I'll second it. >> Yes, you got it, miss. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Uh next we will move on to the Tiny Trojans and elementary handbooks. Any any comments? >> Um just some basic we wanted to be consistent with the language on the cell phone uh personal device legislation, so we were consistent with secondary
on that. Um Tiny Trojans did add an enrollment fee just to hold a spot, but it'll come back to them at the end of the year on their last payment, so we're not keeping that money. We just so that we didn't use the spots for somebody that maybe don't show up and then we've lost somebody else, so >> Now, the Tiny Trojans, is that the infants or is that that's my >> four-year-olds and then my one three-year-old class at Parker. >> Okay. >> Pre-K. >> Mhm. >> Got you. >> I move that we approve the Tiny Trojan in elementary handbooks. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Uh next we'll turn over to who uh Mr. McDaniels for the [snorts] ground building grounds and transportation support services. >> Yeah, a lot of work
going on in that area over the summer. Our custodians are out working hard on cleaning, doing deep cleans in all the buildings. They have a schedule that they run through and they work together to get those buildings ready for students to return in August. Um we are uh the maintenance team has a long list of tasks to complete that have been put out there by principals uh to some maintenance things that need to be taken care of. Um a lot of moving going on this summer and so we're thankful for all those uh team members who make those pieces happen. Multi-purpose restrooms uh should be um we we should be getting a um an inspection here soon by the building inspector to have occupancy. We did have all of the materials for the new retaining
wall uh have been delivered so we should have that up pretty soon and we just approved to have the new sidewalk that goes from um the tennis court bathroom area all the way to the west parking lot. So excited about all of these things happening in that area. It was tricky because we had to make sure we did not interfere with the discus and the football the football field so it's it's got a path but it's in order to keep all those things um separate. Um we are putting out for bid uh we're we're going to be um public publicizing in the newspaper a bid for scoreboards at various locations in the school corporation. Uh that should happen this week. Track resurface will begin on June 15th uh which includes the asphalt around the bleachers.
New lights at the baseball field are done. If you haven't been by there at night uh to see those on, take a look. They look really really good. And then the career center roof, they've started that replacement. That's all for me. All right. Any questions, comments? I will move on to uh Dr. Shoemaker's report. So we don't have pictures um or slides. Um Rama um has some family um issues that she's she's working through and dealing with so um thoughts to her and her family. Um I want to thank everybody for a great uh end of the school year. Um and then our bus drivers are first of all, our parents and our students and our families, but our our non-certified staff, our bus drivers, and custodians, and food service, um, just all year long
supporting our our kids. All of our non-certified, our maintenance, um, our, um, teachers and and administrators, uh, it takes a whole team, like we were saying before, to make make that go. Um, and make it successful. Uh, so, last week we had an our our our I would call it a victory lap for ETT, Education Transformation Team, and that was for a grant, and it was nice to recognize our principals were recognized, um, Kirk Hamann Kim Nicholson, Jacob White, Molly Bates, um, and others who participated. Um, Skybound was the third-party, um, partner that we had with that uh, with that grant, and they were really supportive, and couldn't have done all of the great work without them. Patrick Burris and I mentioned, and you know, he's not here anymore, but Abraham Haler with the career
coaches, and all of the people that we hired, um, really phenomenal people, and we we were able to, you know, retain a lot of them through other positions. Um, special recognition, and and we'll, uh, go more in in in depth into it next month, and that would be Adam McDaniels for his leadership in monitoring the grant, um, and really pioneering that that work. So, um, we had 150 students that that were, um, uh, a little over 150 work-based learning, um, internships, and it was all as a result of this grant. So, it was nice to get be able to get everybody. Katie Smith Smith was there, and, uh, you know, she had left us two years ago, maybe, um, but really really a special person. So, it was nice to be able to reassemble and
and take that victory lap together. Um, this is not going to be super popular with the kids, but, uh, July 27th, we've got the back-to-school festival, and August 4th is back-to-school breakfast. August 5th is our our next our next school day, the first school day of the year. So, that's all I got. It keeps going. >> All right. Next we'll move on to the budget and uh let Megan >> So, the first transfer would will cover May expenses and that would be a transfer from the education fund to the operations fund. The transfer amount was $330,000. So, with your permission we'll cover those May expenses. >> I move to approve the transfer from the education to operations of $330,000. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> And the second resolution is for June
expenses. We'll close out the fiscal year prior to the July meeting. So, we'll do a resolution in an amount not to exceed $350,000 and then in July I'll come back and I'll report what that actually is. Again, we're well within the 15%. Um even if we would do the maximum amount of 350. Um again, that'll be for June 2026 expenses. >> Okay, I'll move to approve the transfers presented. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Aye. >> Any questions or comments from the public? >> I'd like to throw one thing out. >> Yep. >> I do want to commend Gail. She has spent a great deal of time researching Sizemore, preparing her for this new role. Probably Yeah. Probably more than I've ever seen someone prepare somebody else for their job and and it's it's
because of that because of that that we're going to be on the right path. >> And I'll I'll add to that. I I thought the other day a lot of times people let off the gas when they retire and not these two. Yeah, no. It's just like don't forget this to me. mean, I mean Really pushing like sprinting to the finish. It's impressive because that doesn't happen. >> [laughter] >> All right. Well, with that we will adjourn.
