Angela Smith, Debbie present. >> We have Clay and Dan Van not present. >> We have a so we can begin. And I think tonight we have some stuff going on at the high school. So we're going to ask Mr. Markward to kick us off with student of the month and his reports. So the high school student of the month is Charlotte Stopper and then Senora Wilson is the one that nominates her present. >> You can tell what you think. >> Yes. It's my privilege. She was a student and it's my privilege that she just say thank you is a delightful young woman. Absolutely. She reaches out to others with kindness. She has a warm and generous spirit that others relate to very well. Or is important to her. She wants everyone to feel that they
are important and she does her part to draw them in and help them feel that way and to feel that they belong. Growing. I've watched Charlotte grow from treating school as a fun social activity to becoming a top student. She hit a little snag in Spanish, backed up, analyzed what had gone wrong, changed her whole approach. She works for mastery now and she achieves it. Her 3.8 gradepoint average is evidence of how hard she works and how seriously she views her education. But she still manages to have fun contribute. Charlotte is both observant and perceptive. On more than one occasion, I've watched her notice another student who is having a hard day and reach out and offer comfort. She senses it when others are frustrated or sad or unsure and quietly, unobtrusively, kindly reaches out
to offer support. She does that for teachers, too. She doesn't seek credit for helping others, is just an integral part of who she is. She is an outstanding young woman, and it's my privilege to have had her in my class for three years. >> Thank you. Thank you. You're not done yet. Thank you. >> Can't forget that one. And I just need one >> for my administrative report for March. Uh start out with First Nor Eastern BPA chapter. We had two firsts. Um, one's kind of personal for me. I kind of appreciate it. My son Nicholas was the first Torch Award recipient um for Nor Eastern. And then we also have freshman Parker Brooks as our first student to qualify for nationals. Um, so nationals will take place in Nashville uh in May. And since
then, uh, Nick had also applied for to be, um, for the national torch award and, uh, received an email the other night that he was accepted as one of the national torch award winners for BPA as well. Um, as far as NHS for the eventful day on March 4th through parts of the SAT and Mrs. Smith, our career coaches at a career foundations expo for ninth and tth graders. Mrs. Smith worked hard with teachers and had some uh outside speakers come in and present to students. The feedback was very positive. All enjoyed it. Um we looked forward to the next one. A lot of students were engaged in that and did got some different things about how to if they're going to go to college, how to pay for that, what things look like outside
of school. So it was really good day for them. Uh the state has approved new Indiana accountability model. Um this will be our school grades to be calculated. Thanks to Mrs. Brian the board for giving us the ability to attend the upcoming meetings to discuss what it looks like and how it will affect our schools. We'll start digging into that and using that data to see where we land. Uh upcoming events, we have the academic excellence which is March 25th in the middle school gym. Uh extracurriculars gymnast Aubry Irvine. Uh she had competed at the regionals and then she qualified for state and she just competed at state last Saturday at the Ball State. Um, and she said it was a great opportunity to do something that she had not done before. Um, staff shout
outs. Shout out to Mr. Hostel and Mrs. Peters. Um, they were the two that took all of our kids uh for BPA over for the state contest. Um, and so they did a great job jumping in there and taking kids on overnights, which is something that some people fear. So that was nice. Then also another shout out to Mrs. Smith. um her continued vision as a career coach has really done some amazing things and I look forward to seeing where she continues to take that role. So >> that's what I've got. >> We'll see you later. >> All right, we will jump back to celebration for student of the month. It looks like I don't see my little Evelyn here. Um, so our student of the month for the Early Learning Center is Evelyn Belure.
Evelyn is a shining example of well, Mrs. K said Evelyn is a shining example of kindness and consideration. She's always ready to lend a helping hand to classmates and her teachers. Whether it's cleaning up, sharing materials, or offering a kind smile to a friend, Evelyn's positive attitude helps make our classroom a happy, safe, and wonderful place to learn and grow. Evelyn loves pink and purple playing in the kitchen in the classroom and she wants to be a doctor when she grows up and she loves apples. So, congratulations to our sweet little Evelyn. Turn so she can see. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Our student of the month is joining us via Google Me. So this month at the elementary, Grace Canardi is our student of the month. She is a fifth grader in Mrs.
Reed's room. Her favorite things, things that she loves, food, family, and friends. I love the eliteration on that. She has some favorites. Her favorite food is the cooked sushi and ramen. Her favorite color is pink and her favorite subject is math. She belongs by participating in cross country, basketball, and 4. Growing to grow, she works hard. She stays focused and she tries her best and contributing. She helps her friends, helps at home, and does class jobs. And then here are some things that your teacher had to say about you. Grace is an incredibly hardworking, kind, and positive member of our classroom. She consistently treats others with respect and is always willing to help classmates and teachers whenever she can. Grace's cheerful spirit and positive attitude bring joy to those around her. Right now, Grace is
showing tremendous strength as she continues her fight against leukemia while receiving treatment at Riley Hospital. Even while in the hospital, she joins our class on Google Meet each day. She also visits the classroom setup at Riley and continues working on the school assignments that she's had prepared for her. Her work is organized into weekly folders, and she has been dedicated to keeping learning going. Despite everything she's going through, Grace remains positive, joyful, and determined. She even asked for extra work to do, specifically requesting cutting and pasting activities so she can continue reviewing the math skills that they have learned this year. Grace's perseverance, courage, and bright spirit make her an inspiration to our entire school community. So, congratulations, Grace. And I'm so glad I think on behalf of Grace we have family and yet her
award card and her dad and sister are here. >> And then can I show you a field trip? >> Hey fist bump. >> Congratulations. And we've got you a nice little certificate. >> And we can use whatever picture. Congratulations. >> Congratulations, sweetie. >> All right, so I will give them her picture. >> We'll see. >> Go, GRACE. SMILE. >> The screen. Let me get one more. >> Thank you very much. All right, Mr. Avery is going to present our uh middle school student of the month, Aubrey Moore. Thank you very much. Um, I'm not going to read all this stuff uh because you guys can read this. I just noticed something about this situation where it's the whole eighth grade team that nominated and elected Aubrey. So, all of her eighth grade teachers love to
have her in class. She's an outstanding student. And the thing that stuck out in all of the things we discussed about her was she always is smiling and always is pleasant with all the people around her. and she doesn't know a stranger. She has friends um across the spectrum and that's what makes her very very special. Um her favorite color is teal of course. Her favorite food is steak. Nice. Her favorite subject is math. and she loves pets, family, and Lego. So again, the whole eighth grade team um is proud to have Aubrey represent us for student Happy birthday. >> Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Thank you. >> Administrative reports. >> So, uh, a couple things. Last week, Nor Eastern will receive recognition um as a 25 year member with the Chamber of Commerce. So, 25
years. Um Friday, I had the pleasure of judging at the District 9 FFA convention. Um something new for me. Um I judged um speeches, so that was more my know about things, but um we do have some spring projects underway. Um, new LED screens have been installed in the high school gym. Um, HBAC work continues at the elementary. Um, and just a reminder to the public that we will be starting some exterior masonry work at the high school um, followed by replacement of the track um, over the summer. So, um, tonight for your approval on the consent agenda is Brooke Cox as a co-head varsity cheer coach. Um, I want to thank uh Trisha Thomas um for helping a fellow school district um that has had some turnover. Um we are fortunate enough to have
talented employees that can help train other employees and so um that's always a positive and um we've got a few days left but um I want to wish all of the students and staff a safe and rejuvenating spring break. >> Thank you. early learning session. >> So, we've had a busy few weeks already in for the month of March. Um, the first week we had our field trip to the Muny Children's Museum Museum, which is always a super fun place. Students were so excited to go and we had a lot of chaperones, so that was a really fun day. And then um that same week we also had we celebrated read across the week with with dress up days which are always exciting too. And every child can read also donated a book to each
one of our preschoolers. So that was really nice. So they all got to take home a book for their home library. Um last week we had our book fair and donuts with grown-ups. So that was really fun. We had a really good turnout. A lot of a lot of grown-ups came and um we had a really successful book fair. So that was really nice. Um, I sent out parent surveys for plans for next year. So far, we had um 17 of our 24 um three-year-old families indicated that they would like their child to move on to our horse program next year. And we're we still have responses coming in. And then we had 30 responses from our 45 four-year-old families about moving on to NES for kindergarten with 27 of those indicated that they plan
on sending their child to Nor Eastern for kindergarten and we still have responses coming in for those. We wrapped up our chocolate fundraiser last week and we had a lot of participation with that and that was a really good fundraiser. So that that was nice and I wanted to give a shout out to Mrs. Ryan and Miss Cox who came over and decorated our halls with some um leprechaun shenanigans and our students were so excited to come in on St. Patrick's Day. Chairs were turned over, toilets were green, I mean streamers everywhere. It was crazy and wonderful. So, thank you for doing that. And then also a shout out to Miss Darlene, our custodian. We were all going to pitch in on Friday and pack up that book fair. She did it all by herself.
She had it all wrapped up and packed up and packaged. So, we really appreciate all the hard work that she does for us. Okay, so at the elementary last week, we wrapped up I read three testing. Um, so that is second grade, third grade, and we had some fourth graders as well. Um, it went well. It was a very smooth um couple of weeks and I just felt like in general the schedule was um calm and we were able to give all the kids you know the time that they needed to get that done and we are happy with those results. So next steps for us will be um sending scores out to families individually. Uh and then we've already regrouped students that will need intervention and we'll have seven weeks um to do that.
the DOE does provide an after IE intervention remediation plan. Um and so we're using guidance from them and then all of the interventionists that were um that are in the building to help with that. So we'll regroup those kiddos and start that um I think Friday. They're actually ready to go. Um we also are waiting to confirm summer school information. Um sometimes it's hard to um decipher if it is required or not. Um, so we're waiting on that information to come out, but if so, then we will um begin planning for that. The spring program and art show, that's our next big event coming up in May. So, just an early heads up, Save the Davis at 6:30 on May 14th. Um, it's a fun night because you can start at the elementary and walk
through the building um and look at all the art that's been up um from all grade levels. Bless you. And then um from there you can walk over and join. It'll be our third, fourth, and fifth graders. Um the 70s is the decade and then I think we're done with decades after this one. So um that'll be our spring concert coming up. We have lots of field trips. It's that season right now. So we have RCT. We sent some classes to go see The Descendants. It runs one more weekend at the theater this weekend. They love that. Um boom shaft in the planetarium is coming up as well. So we've been sending um different pe different grades to different places. um set up for the set stepup day. Uh Mr. Hinky um has done such
a good job of communicating and keeping me in line. So, appreciate it. Um he reached out and we are ahead of the schedule on our on our stepup day, which is the day where our our fifth graders will go over to the middle school and um get to experience a little bit of time over there in the building, meet some of the teachers, um meet with the administrators, um and our kids always look forward to that. So, we have a date already chosen for that, which is exciting. Um, roundup is coming up as well, April 16th. It's by appointment only, and so we do have several appointments already scheduled for that. Um, that's always an exciting time. Today, we actually had a group of teachers here in the boardroom working on some curriculum pacing, and
that was a a good collaborative time. Um, it's always nice to to be able to talk across grade levels. So, that was very productive. Um, strawberry milk is back in the cafeteria. That is a new splash because that has been a and it is not staying on the shelves. So, we can't keep it in stock. But, um we actually have a student whose new job is to um watch the crate. He's the milk monitor and he loves it because it is not it's it's a very hot commodity. Um, shout outs to teachers, um, those that help with I read and it's not just the ones that are testing, but the ones that are helping to keep the atmosphere positive and quiet during testing and just being so patient because we do pull a lot of
staff to help with that. So, it does it does disrupt the schedule. Um, and then our specials team next week starting Friday actually is the culture week at the elementary and we're celebrating India. It also matches what they do at the um, Richmond Art Museum. So, it is I am India this year. Um, so presentations have been going on and the specials teams will take that whole week um, in their classes to teach kids about that culture. So, we've got lots of fun things. >> Well, the middle school, we kicked off the last nine weeks Monday. Um, Mr. Tucker has been finishing up our master schedule for next year as well as helping Miss Weiss with placing the fifth grade into sixth graders. And um we also have started our penny wars which is put
on by NJHS and the money raised for that goes to the animal shelters. After the first week, Miss Reed's class earned a popsicle um for each student for being the leaders. We will be doing our third and final checkpoint next week and our second club time will also be next week, which will lead me into my shoutouts. Um Mr. Cornac, the um high school science teacher, um is our middle school gaming club um sponsor. So, they really enjoyed doing that with him and he really enjoyed it too. So, and then another shout out to Miss Morland um who helped uh come up with some creative ideas for all the PE teachers while we were short of gym during video board installations. That is all I have. >> It is that time of year, so they
have we've got some art projects coming over from high school to the elementary. Um, you'll need to come check those out for sure. I don't know if you remember, we do it every We've done it every year. The high school ceramics class. Um, our kindergarteners draw pictures, um, creatures, monsters, whatever they want. They draw a picture and name it and describe it and then the high schools are assigned that picture to create into a sculpture and they're delivering them tomorrow and they're the best. >> The best is just the change because the the students get to to pair up with each other and meet and hand over the projects >> and that'll be part of the art show. >> Yeah, we do leave them out for the art show. >> Yep. We'll put them in
the hallway tomorrow. Um, we'll display them at and then we will maybe store them for safety until the art show again and we'll bring them back out and then they take them home. >> How many projects are there? >> Well, there's what 80 some almost 90 kindergarteners. So, yeah. And it's fun because some of the high school kids will try to pick like if they have siblings um and do their siblings um pictures, but it is so fun to see their interpretations of and I'm sure it's a to look at the drawings of like >> oh it's they get better every year. So fun. >> So thank you guys. >> All right. Uh community comments. Does anybody sign in three times? >> Community comments. All right, we're going to move on to consent items. We've
all seen them and they're also out on the website under agendas. So in the consent items, we have the approval of signing of February 18th regular board meeting February 25th at the special board meeting minutes and then approval of claims, donations, fundraisers, field trips. We have out of state field trips and personnel items. So, under the consent items, does anyone have any questions or did you look through anything? >> I'll make a motion to approve the consent items. Second, >> Miss Bartum made a motion to approve the consent item, seconded by Miss Smith. All in favor? >> I zero. >> All right, new business. So, first up is the iPad buyback bid approval or call it let me Brian speak office. >> Yes. Um so tonight the recommended action is approval of the tech reboot
bid for iPad buyback. So we received eight bids during the bid process. Um, Tech Reboot offered the highest buyback um, amount with the minimum guaranteed buyback of 168,750 and a maximum buyback of 243,750. So, it falls within that range depending on the condition of the the iPads. >> How long is that open for? And do we have to how long have the bid available for? >> The bids was available it it is advertised twice. So it was advertised in the Padium and in the Western News for two weeks. So they'll come and pick them up and then evaluate them and determine the value of each piece individually because it's it's broken down by >> Okay. Y. So they guarantee a minimum and a maximum. >> So we do have to have approval for that. >>
Okay. Motion we accept the tech buyback. I have a second. Motion made by Miss Smith to approve the iPad buyback bid from tech reboot. Seconded by Miss Bartram. All in favor? >> I zero. >> I would also note that this is not until summer. So we'll follow our same same process for collecting iPads at the end of the year. So it'll be most likely like a June pickup education service group. >> Yes. So Mazy Education um services, we partner with them already. They help provide our EL services um since we do not have a licensed EL teacher on staff. Um we also um they have partnered with East Central to help um coordinate the um special ed grant through the co-op. Um and my recommendation is that we partner with Mazy um to help write
and manage um grants at Nor Eastern and that would include all the title grants as well as high ability and school safety. or we will this agreement go July and it'll be through the school year then. >> Yes. So that follows up all the school contracts and calendars. Yes. So Nathan Williamson that is of Mazy Education used to be with the department of ed um and has a full staff. And so when he um left the department of ed then he started this company. This is who writes our grants now. You guys. You. >> So, this would help. >> Yeah. Typically, it's been the assistant superintendent and then the the superintendent signs off. the writing of the grants is it's the ongoing maintenance and the auditing and things that go along with it, >> right?
>> So, this is a cheaper alternative than hiring an assistant superintendent >> or to Yeah. or to hire a certain director. We've moved some things around and made that a little bit more feasible now. Makes sense. >> I'll make a motion to approve the Mazy Education Service Agreement. Second. >> Motion made by Miss Bartram to approve the Mazy Education Service Agreement. Second by Miss Smith. All in favor? Zero. That completes new business. Next up is policy review update. So we have three listed. Um the first one is in the volume 38 non-discrimination for board approval. We also have policy 5114 for the non-immigrant and policy 6250 for required ABM. They are all first reading. How do you guys feel? Have you guys read through them? Questions, thoughts? Should we wait to available to review them
as well? good percentages. That's up to you guys. I mean, if you guys feel comfortable with them, you can move them through. Neither one of them had noted that they had any concerns with it. They don't agenda. They receive it as well. So, either one noted that they had issues with any questions. >> Do we need to do a monitor together or the group first? >> I think we could do the volume all together, but we still had to do them separately. Yeah. >> Okay. So I make a motion to approve volume 38 non-discrimination. >> I second. >> Okay. So that motion made by Miss Bartram to approve volume 38 number one on the non-discrimination approve second by Miss Smith. All in favor? >> I zero. >> I can do the rest together. Yeah. And
I'll make a motion to to um approve policy 5114 first reading. Policy 6250 first reading. Second >> motion made by Miss Bartum to approve policy 5114 not over the not immigrant um policy 6250 approved by Miss Bartum for required ADM. Both of them were seconded by Miss Smith. All in favor? I >> 30. >> All right, that was pause review and update. Um, we have nothing in unfinished business. You have anything to add? Okay, we are now at board comments. >> You guys have anything? >> No. No. >> I saw the pictures of what it decorated at the preschool. I didn't know you did it though, but they were and I went they were very excited after school. They were very excited about it. One thing I have is I hope spring break is warm
for everybody. Whether you stay here or go away because I'm over cold weather, >> right? >> I know we live in Indiana, but I'm really overre. >> All right. Um, employee comments. One, two, three of you up there. You employee comments. All right. I will Make a motion for a motion to second. >> Motion made by Miss Smith to adjourn. Second by Miss Bartram. All in favor zero meeting is adjourned. >> That was one of the funnest meetings. are going to be going time for Survivor
