All right. First um on our agenda is community comments. Did anyone sign in to speak? No. Going once, going twice. Okay. No community comments. All right. Unfinished business. Uh, first on our agenda tonight for unfinished business is going to be the calendar amendment and I will let Miss O'Brien speak. >> Yes. Um, thank you to the staff and um, families um, for completing the surveys. Um, after reviewing the information um, no action will be taken and the calendar will stay as previously approved. Um so our goal is to ensure that every student receives a high quality educational experience um even in an e-learning environment. Um we are committed to making e-learning engaging, accessible and meaning for all students. Um we will be working working to strengthen our synchronous e-learning model including clarifying expectations for both

sta staff and for students. So um so this is just anformational item. There is no action on this as well. I will be sharing um the parent comments with um they were they were anonymous. Um but I will send out to the staff um just so you can see the feedback that we got from parents. Um you know there were some things that um you know they may not love e-learning days but they um love snow makeup days even less um to summarize the results. Um but it is useful information when you see it from the parents side about some of the struggles they have. Um interesting interestingly enough um it was well over I want to say about 97% indicated that they have internet at home or access to a hotspot at home. Um

however um I did see some comments uh from families that although they have it at home um their child care provider may not have internet or it may be a grandparent that has um some things. So um knock on wood hopefully we won't um have any more snow days this year. Um, but we'll just continue to have conversations about um what we can do to help support families, but also communicating expectations with families um to make sure that students are getting the most out of their e-learning days. >> So, I do have a follow-up question on that. >> In the um student handbook, does it say that they do not have to show up? >> What's it saying in there? >> I don't know. I have to go back. >> Okay. because I had someone

tell me that it said that they didn't have to. So I I thought wonder if that takes it back to the comment where people were saying that they didn't have to show up, >> you know, that it didn't matter. So I wondered if >> Yeah. So I'll make a note of that and double check the language >> because I can I I mean I can actually understand like the elementary not >> I mean like what you just said right with >> Right. And you know high school kids, you know, >> right? Yeah, that's what I said. We just need to to work on our our expectations. The other thing I think that it's probably time for a refresher for parents so they actually understand because a lot of the things that and um and you'll

see this in the survey results as well. Um I think some of the things they think that we could decide on or we could change are not ours to change. that it's it's part of not not even board policy, but it's part of Indiana code. Um, and that's what we have to abide by as far as um you know what the the criteria >> Well, like the packet is how I thought that you could do that and you can't. So, >> and the five days to get the assignment in, is that a state thing or is is that what >> it I Yes, I need to double check and see it. it was a state thing but the the guidelines but I think it's a carryover from COVID. So um but we do still have

have to allow um for those people that don't have internet access or have a child um we do there is part of Indiana code that requires us to allow them to do that that makeup. So, makes sense. Any other discussion? So, as of now, we do not need a motion for that unfinished business. All right. Um, next up is the Chromebook proposal, and I will let Mr. Brian speak on that. Okay. Um we've had um lots of conversation um but at this time that the recommendation is to utilize Chromebooks as our primary device for K to2 um built-in keyboards integration with Google Workspace and use support real-time collaboration writing and research and assessment um and oh sorry it supports real time collaboration writing research and assessment in both inperson and virtual settings. Um, while iPads

offer a strong creative capabilities, Chromebooks best support academic rigor, digital literacy skills, security, and are more cost-effective. So, um, the recommendation would be to approve the com Chromebooks with a district provided insurance as our primary device for K to 12. I think one of the things that that was not clear, we've talked about lots of reasons, um but for transparent transparency purposes, I would indicate that um the transition to Chromebooks um will be a cost savings. So, the original iPads were um purchased with ESSER grant dollars that we no longer have. So, we need um a plan in place um to be able to sustain um and I think um you know you can Google and look at you know the price for an iPad um versus a Chromebook. But um and there's an attachment

in board docs that you can see um the differences. Uh and one of those is some of the underlying costs that go with that the iPads as well as far as Apple Care. Um, and we do have to pay Mosul and that's a per device fee every year. So, um, but I just want to make clear that that it is also a cost savings. >> Any discussion? I'm ready to make a motion. I'll make a motion to approve the proposal for the Chromebooks. >> Second. >> I will second. >> Motion made by Miss Bartum to approve the proposal for Chromebooks K through 12. Second by seconded by Mr. Vanine. All in favor? >> I All opposed. >> Opposed. >> Motion pass 32. >> All right. Are there any that is all we have on our

agenda for unfinished business. Do we have any board comments? >> I think so. Um, thank you for everyone being here. Thank you for all your emails, for all your conversations, sharing everything with us. Again, I think sometimes it's really hard on our side as well, it is on your guys' side. So, having conversations, emailing us, and sharing information is good. Um, also, since many of you were at the concert last night, kudos. That was it was really good. It was a really nice, really nice concert last night. He does a great job. He's in a great role. So, um, all I have for comments and it was a hot ticket. I had class at 6, but I cheated and muted myself and watched it on phone. I got a couple [laughter] pictures sent to me,

but um, but when I left, they were already parking in the grass. >> So, yeah. >> And that was in the high school K through 10, >> right? >> Yeah. And we Yeah, because it used to be K to three and and it was even crowded. So, that was just at K to two. So, All right. Are there any employee comments? >> Um, I want to just, like I said again, I want to thank you for the being able to have the open conversation and just coming from I know teachers I've talked with, we kind of knew that it was the financial side of it. And so I think um, just hearing the things that we were saying, it helped. But just maybe for feelings wise, it just kind of felt like maybe that um

we already knew that it's if your boss says we can't do it, we can't do it. It would just probably instead of us feel like we give you our thoughts a chance, it kind of just felt like waste of time. Like we kind of already knew. I mean the states cut up money. We have um you know book fees that we get reimbursed on now. So we knew it was coming. We got to find a plan and it's not just iPads that we are struggling with. So I think maybe that if we just said that from the beginning that probably would have helped and you probably wouldn't we wouldn't have had to go back and forth because in the grand scheme of things we don't make good decisions. So, I appreciate your time for continuing

to work with us. Hopefully, you still >> and and that's why I stated it earlier. So, it wasn't a decision that was made based solely on cost, but I felt for transparency that that was one of the factors, but not the only factor, but that was part of it. And and just to make sure that that was clear. Yes, >> it's in that document, but I wanted to make sure that you were aware. [snorts] >> Any other comments? >> I will take a motion for a motion to adjourn. >> I'll second. Motion made by Miss Smith to adjurnn, seconded by Miss Bartum. All in favor? We are five. Thanks again for all your time. We do appreciate
