001i'd like to call this meeting to order please and thank everyone um for for attending we really appreciate your presence um stand for the pledges of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you at this time we would um entertain a motion to adopt the agenda as presented i'll make a motion to adopt the agenda thank you all in favor aye aye thank you at this point we are um we do call to the public and as a reminder um the we are limiting today the call of the public and most of the time affect all of the time that i know of 30 minutes for everybody to speak three minutes per person and just as a
002reminder personal attacks on board members personal staff other people in the um attendance or absent individual individuals who address the board are discouraged policies and they i can read them out if you need them are provided by the board for disposition of legitimate complaints including those involving individuals on conclusion of open call to the public individual members of the board may respond to any criticism made by an individual who has addressed the board otherwise we are not permitted or allowed to respond to your comments they are usually directed to the superintendent okay so we do have one person who filled out a um participation it's there's another one coming okay um so i call on joni roach please did i promise that right joni yes bro okay thank you first and uh foremost don't want
003to apologize for the last board meeting that i came to i was upset it's been a couple of months back but i was upset because the schools weren't going to be opening up so i want to get right to this this actually started with me finding out that there was quite a few students that the hybrid online system was not working then i found out that 50 of the students are failing we have kids that are quitting we have straight a students that have kept straight a's all through school that are now wanting to quit they don't want to they don't want to keep going they're getting frustrated at this point i didn't know if this was true because i had watched uh mr scholl's video where he said it was going great and uh
004i had contacted the board of education the state board of education i've contacted the governor's office and i contacted contacted our local legislative representative for district number four and from what i understand is it is a problem fifty percent of the kids are failing and from what i know the teachers don't know how to solve it they don't know what to do there are some teachers and this is an attack on the teachers guys and this is not attack on you but i don't think that you guys have been given all the information after what i watched from mr scholl's video last night i also they're also just totally amazed they're like yavapai county is open our numbers are fantastic they're always going to flutter a little bit but we are doing great the schools
005should be open and it is up to you you are the governing governing board for this superintendent you are the ones that are going to make the decision whether or not to allow him to continue to keep these schools closed and this is causing major problems for these children i've had comments well why don't the parents get involved some of the parents don't know there's reasons why some parents don't know some of these kids are in domestic violence situations we have homeless kids right now that we're bouncing around from house to house to get them to school and putting our money together to make sure they have books but the but the hybrid learning is messed up and it is i said if it's it's the entire district it's not just chino valley it is
006our entire district 50 of the children are failing and that's what we're here for right to make sure that these kids can have the tools that they need to succeed in life and right now we're not doing that closing these schools would be detrimental not opening this school up on the 19th would be horrible for these kids it's not just the parents we're looking at the kids i've called everybody that i could call i'm recording this today because i've been asked to record it today i'm needing you as the school board members to vote against him keeping the schools closed on october 19th we need to open the schools continue the online learning if some of the kids need to and want to stay home and the parents are more comfortable or they have problems
007let them continue you know but we need to get it fixed these kids are failing and i don't know if you guys have been told this but they are failing the superintendent of yavapai school district told me it is absolutely 100 true he said the only thing you can do is go to the school board members and speak i have i sent some some stuff out last night i have messages after messages kids getting information okay sent to them and then it's deleted kids being online and getting their homework done and the homework and then it's not getting sent to the schools i have one child that was on top of everything and got an email that he missed 13 assignments and three tests this is a huge huge problem and it's not the teacher's
008fault but it has to be taken care of so please do please vote right today please your community depends on it thank you joni thank you i don't know what order these came in but i think next we have casey perkins hi hi casey it's right you just lit time with it okay i'm just here as a mom i want a good education for my kids um i keep hearing we are very concerned about health and we're very concerned about all of our um all these standards that we have to follow here's another scenario for you my daughter's on the bus on her way to phoenix to volleyball 102 degree weather no ac on the bus and they're telling them to roll the windows down and keep their masks on if we're really concerned about
009the health our kids would have been on the bus with um ac so here they are being forced to do it i said absolutely not don't you dare put that mask on there's girls on the bus about ready to pass out and we're talking about safety precautions for covid covet's here we know it it's going to be here it's just like the flu so in two years three years four years we're still going to get coven and it's still going to be here so looking at these numbers that i was handed at a meeting yesterday they're going to be the same are we going to pull our kids from school in a year from now because these numbers are still they're fluctuating a little bit they're no we have to get back to normal our
010kids need it i have good kids my kids are involved in everything and they're struggling my daughter not so much she was in the beginning but she struggles getting a hold of teachers it's the first week back at school and i shouldn't have to have a meeting with the principal because the teachers are not responding she had an f in yearbook 97 98 99 all because of the hybrid is not helping the kids you can't get a hold of teachers some of them you can some of them are amazing but then my son can't figure out how to maneuver through things he is struggling this isn't working for our kids if it's really about the health and not about the money to get back from the kids that you guys are losing then we need
011to look at this because again four times my daughter went into school twice to volleyball sorry twice to volleyball twice to school she temped high your guys's standards say she has to be sent home and she was told go back to the car sit in front of the ac and come back in and retap not okay so if we're really worried about that and it isn't about the money with these kids take the precautions seriously and they're not being taken seriously it's about the education of our kids and a lot of these kids need school they need the teachers because they don't have the support of us they don't have parents like me like the parents that are standing back here they don't have that and that's what we're here to fight for is for
012the kids that don't have the parents to do it so we need you guys to make the right decision and think about what is best for our kids because some of you may have kids in this school but it is about what we're asking and not what you guys think is best for our kids it's our job to parent and it's our job to tell you what's right for our kids and it's important so you guys need to figure this out and you need to make the decision based on what's best for our kids not what's best for the money coming into the school because those grants are not what it's about it's about raising good humans and raising kids that have good education and this education is crap we've put a lot of faith
013in you guys and said you were dealt a bad hand towards the end of last year okay we get it we sent our kids back to school it's still a rough deal okay we're going to push school back okay we'll put a little more faith into them but i'm not going to i'm going to pull my kids at home school if you guys continue this and that's the vast majority of this i have a sister that's in this school that she can't homeschool but i'm sure she would love to be able to do that because it's not okay the kids need to be in school and i don't know what it's going to take but maybe thinking more about if your kids were here because it's just another virus and it's just here i walked
014in and saw no mask on the security and the safety of people if it's really that serious then a mask should have been on and we should be leading by example we shouldn't we should be sending kids home if their attempts are up it's about education and taking it seriously because our kids education isn't number one here it's the money that's coming in and that's how us parents feel and we shouldn't have to be fighting for this we should be able to know that you guys are looking out for what's best and that's not what we feel like that's all i got for you sorry thank you lindsay thank you i'm sorry for the wrong name thank you okay it's lindsay thank you lindsay thank you so basically my feelings are pretty much the same
015i know a majority of kids are failing and it's not working my kids aren't some of the kids that are failing they're doing fine but they're struggling they want to be back in school they want to be back with their friends yesterday we had a meeting with mr scholl and we were told about how many kids were sick last year with the flu virus it was one of the worst flu scenes you guys have ever had no precautions were taken for the flu our kids were allowed to come to school we all got sick just like every other virus we get stomach flus from school we get colds we get everything um then the numbers are not going to reach his benchmark there are schools in yavapai county who are already open full-time without any
016problems camp birdie has been open for six weeks full time no problems i had i had a list i don't have it with me but there's nine schools in yavapai county that are open full-time right now trinity which i know is a charter school is has been open for six plus weeks no masks no social distancing no problems whatsoever um i just our kids need to be back in school there are so many kids struggling so many kids failing this hybrid system is not working for them the kids are struggling the teachers are struggling the parents are struggling it's it's not working and i'm not blaming teachers i'm not blaming students it's a mess the way that it's set up they can't it's just my kids are doing fine but there's so many kids that
017aren't so it it needs to change and it needs to change quickly or i can definitely see a ton of people pulling their children because we've been looking at this light at the end of the tunnel knowing october 19th was the day that our kids got to go back to school full time and they just took the light away and we don't know when it's coming back so we tried to stick this out as long as we could knowing there was a date in the future that we were going to get back to normal and you just it's been taken away and honestly the virus isn't going anywhere it's going to stay just like casey said so are we going to do this for three years or are we eventually just going to dive back
018in like we're gonna have to do we cannot do this for three years it will not work so we at some point have to dive in and move forward so i hope that you guys make the right choice i hope that we can move forward get our kids back in school or the district is going to lose a lot of children shortly i've heard preschool valleys getting ready to start full-time again after fall break too they're a much bigger district than us their numbers are way higher than ours i don't know for sure if they'll stick with it but that's i've heard from multiple parents that's their plan they're coming back full time after fall break we need to do it too our district is smaller our numbers are much lower and our kids need
019it probably more than them we're a lower income district the kids need to be in school so thank you all right thank you thank you so much linda okay ellie sotelo thank you um i'm oldier montero's mom i am a single parent i cannot do homeschool my child is struggling he is failing after being a straight a student throughout his whole entire life he is a sophomore he it does bum me out i can't stay home with my children like most parents can because i don't have that other extra income coming in so i have to work full-time i took a couple hours off work to be able to be here today um and i would like to see this school open back up for those who are struggling and my child is one of
020them um my daughters who are 11 years old they're in sixth grade they go to mingus charter school and they are opening back up full time starting october 19th with restrictions obviously which is great i don't mind the restrictions we can take all the restrictions and precautions that we need to take but i do ask that you open back this the school's back up we need it the our children need it not all of us can stay home and homeschool we don't have those options i don't have those options so i would really like my child who's always been a straight a student to keep his grades to make sure that his grades are up and not see him fail okay thank you thank you so much okay and ali aren't hi hi there hi
021my name is lee arendt and um i wish that i was kaylee mcinanny right here because i would speak to you a lot better but i am going to read um a letter that i wrote so please forgive me if i'm nervous um i teach at del rio i am this is my 30th year teaching hybrid is not going well for our kids the kids are not retaining what i am teaching um i cannot keep the pace that admin had originally thought we would be able to tackle to their their original plan was for hopefully pie in the sky for us to teach two lessons a day per subject and then let the kids practice those two lessons a day at their home day this is absolutely impossible we are darn lucky me if i
022get fifty percent of them to return they're at home work when they do complete their work it's wrong it's not right um when they come back empty-handed they're behind and so they're not prepared for the next lesson many children are home trying to navigate this by themselves this is too much for a child under the age of 13. when a child is absent which happens a lot i have to prepare their stack of work for them to complete without any adult instruction the gap is getting wider and wider the high students are holding their own we are actually holding them back they should not be getting they should be getting four lessons a week monday tuesday wednesday thursday now they're getting two maybe three our struggling kids are sinking they're not internalizing what is being
023taught and all the kids are behind from missing the last quarter of last year this is not good for anyone i don't know for sure but i'm guessing the online kids are not faring well either please check with an online teacher i'm speaking for myself here i have friends on all the campuses that have expressed similar feelings but i'm speaking for me hybrid is not going well for me hybrid is the hardest thing i've ever done i truly have had days where i felt like i was on a verge of a breakdown i am a 30th year teacher i taught kindergarten for 20 years you can handle a lot when you teach kindergarten um i the last three weeks i have worked over 65 hours a week i'm tired i'm fractious and i'm worried sick
024about the kids i have thought seriously about trying to use my 730 hours with some kind of long-term disability leave something to get me out of this but i'm not going to do that i owe it to the children and i owe it to my peers to to work through this my blood pressure is high i don't sleep and i worry that this stress is going to cause my health an issue the hybrid is terrible but my loyalty like i said to my students keeps me going everyone i work with is in the same boat last weekend i was talking to my sister and she said lee it sounds like you're in trouble and i said i am in trouble but i work with a whole bunch of people who are in trouble look into
025the eyes of your staff look into the eyes of your staff and you will see people that are beat and broken and hurt their love for their job is gone as you know um or maybe you don't know i have kids from 7 10 in the morning when the buses arrive until three o'clock i have a 15-minute lunch break and a 30-minute special slash prep every day i usually walk to the office to check my mail and use the restroom during my prep so that diminishes my prep to 20 minutes there is so much parent communication today i printed out 75 pages of jojo which is the online app and that was for one of my sections so you know it's spaced and it's lots of information but still 75 pages um so i um
026there's so much parent contact having to go on i leave work after 5 30 every day and i take home so much work that cannot be possibly be graded during the school day i truly hope that we are working towards an alternative i keep looking at the numbers and i've tracked them when i can um and i don't think that ducey even set an attainable goal for us i track like three days at a time and boom we're past what i thought 24 was the grand number now i i think it's 10 i'm not sure but anyways so i don't think we're going to reach it it's not all good that's what i just wanted to make sure and i'm not here i'm not being a whiny butt i swear to you i am not
027i'm doing my job but the plea is for your help the plea is for your support we need to figure out a way to get our kids back to school four days a week i know there's risks i know that at the beginning of school we were worried about losing teachers but i tell you i've heard that several teachers who are going to at the end of this year try their hardest to find a different option if i wasn't retiring i would be doing the exact same thing so i i guess there's a blessing and a silver lining for me but that's that's not for everybody and that's sad you're going to lose a lot of good teachers if this really continues i just i don't i don't know what to say i don't have
028answers i i don't even have the energy to be on the committee or the time to be on a committee to help come up with answers but we've got to start looking the risk in our town as what i understand it is so low compared to the costs that um we're paying with our children and our staff um please think about what i'm saying i'm not attacking anyone i'm asking for help the kids need you to guide us back to school and your staff needs your help as well thanks thank you thank you thank you does anybody have any comments it's on the agenda correct correct okay any other any other call republic okay i want to say something i just want to thank everybody that came here today i mean i do i want
029you to know that the four of us sitting up here is all voluntary positions and you know most of you know i have kids in the district too and i definitely want to get my kids back in school but i appreciate everybody coming out and voicing their concerns because that's what makes a difference so i just want to thank everybody i don't know if lee left but i definitely appreciate her thank you um at this time item six information discussion items um superintendent's report please so you have a superintendent's report on your desk um cobin 19 update the metrics are out they continue to be in the moderate risk range for just one of the three uh benchmarks which is the the one that kind of people have talked about the the cases and last
030week it was at 24 which is cases per 100 000 that equals about 56 cases or so that occurred in the in the county last week i'm sorry on the week of september 13th there's two numbers that aren't highlighted those are numbers that that's what the estimates are for the next two weeks so tomorrow morning data will be released it should be about 24 again and then the week after a week from tomorrow data should show that it's 28 or so and that could go up just because that's what the um the cases are reported to date and that information you can see the cases per day on the back of that sheet it shows you what day this is coming off the department health services website and so it was 57 cases the week
031of the 20th and we're up to 66 cases right now the week of the 27th and obviously we're in the middle of this week now it hasn't been re-updated very well the enrollment as of yesterday our 40th day adm projection was 2056 adm our 40th day adm for last year was 22 18 so we're down 162 adm uh it's for the most part equally spread throughout this the school i think del rio is up it says 60 lost to 60 adm i think that's a little bit um it's a little deceiving just because they lost a large class and gained a small class so part of that is has to do with changes in the different cohorts coming through and territorial is down 36 adm but it is actually more bodies than that because a
032good portion of that is kinder so it's actually probably closer to 50 60 kids that are that territorial is down uh staff members of the month um we recognize our staff members of the month this morning um at territorial was kate fletcher who wasn't available because she was at work on thursday and had her baby on friday so i want to congratulate kate fletcher on the birth of her son but she was um the teacher and and she um took on a class that was twice a week it was in person and another group of kids twice a week it was um online so she she really took one for the team there we have alandra mendez was a staff member at territorial of the month our teacher at del rio of the month was
033daryl and rock and our staff member was paula meyer at heritage it was laurie miller um was the teacher of the month and our staff member was nicole curtly and at heritage or i'm sorry at the high school it was their teacher of the month of bernie boris and our staff member of the month was mary ellis and with bernie when we went in there she was actually she has a class where she takes our center's kids and those are the kids that are the have the highest disabilities the the most severe disabilities and she was teaching them how to cook in her in her kitchen so that's that's the kind of work that she does and why she's um deserving of that um and she was very excited to be honored to be um
034as they all were to be the the future of the money and again the mary ellis was our staff member of the month we have our asba county meeting and annual conference the county meeting is october 28th both of these in our annual conference is the first week in december both of these are being held virtually the and i think there's some did you end up voting annie i think the county representative was one of the votes yeah i think i did two different okay good good so if you are interested in attending either of these which again would be virtually please let karen know and she can get you signed up for those um i know that that uh typically we have one or two that go to the annual conference i can tell
035you that i went to the law conference which is actually really good um in person a little bit difficult virtually and so um you know i'd say you need to be really um interested if you want to do the annual conference virtually um prop 208 i know that we talked about this last time and penny asked me just to kind of put it as a reminder um as a as a qualifier i'm not telling you to vote yes or no on prop 208 all i'm giving you is some factual information i recommend that you do your own research and make your own decision on prop 208 um prop 208 is invest in ed would place an additional three and a half percent tax on earnings over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for single filers
036and five hundred dollar thousand dollars for joint filers as an example if someone made five hundred thousand dollars they would pay no additional tax if they made 500 and as a as a couple if they made 500 1 000 it would be three and a half percent on that thousand dollars so be 35 dollars that they'd owe an additional taxes so it's not three and a half percent on the whole amount just on the amounts above those thresholds the district's lobbyist estimated that this would result in 1.6 to 1.7 million dollars in revenue for the district the proceeds from the income tax increase must be used for staff salary increases does not include administrative salary increases along with cte programs and other teacher mentoring and retention program so it's very specific on what it could
037be spent not on administration so that's pro prop 208 again do your own research and make your own decision on that which you think is best and just as a reminder our governing board meeting for november has been changed to november 5th so that it's not interfering with election night and i encourage everyone to vote and they've actually extended the date to later in october to register so if you're not registered please register to vote and whatever you do whoever you vote for please just vote any questions anybody's questions thank you mr schultz oh i forgot two things yeah yeah the rate the most important things um we had uh information came out uh recently about the high school dropout and graduation rates now these are for 2019 the class of 2019. we don't have
038the information for the class of 2020 yet it's just too soon a huge congratulations goes out to the class of 2019 into the staff of the high school the 2019 graduation rate was was actually that's uh messed up it's 91 not 21 91 over 91 percent almost 92 percent was the graduation rate the county's graduation rate was 81 and a half and the states was 79.2 so it's over over 10 percent over the counties graduation rate as a whole and almost 12 over or 13 over the um state's graduation rate on the and so higher the better the dropout rate which is you want the lower the better the dropout rate which is the number of the percentage of kids that actually just don't finish the four years was 1.56 percent while the counties was
0392.85 and the states was 3.93 so we were less than half of what the states was and well below what the county's dropout rate was uh this would not have been possible without the hard work of the high school staff but all the the k-8 work that was done to get to the high school is um an important foundation that led to the success huge numbers fantastic news of the work that they're doing at the high school so these are again the class of 2019. i can tell you that the counselors and administration at the high school hustle to get those kids graduated and so it's a lot of kudos go out to the staff at the high school any questions about that question no all right okay thank you mr show um item 6d
040financial report okay so right now with our m o we are at 1.51 still available that's actually pretty low for right now but a lot of it is because of the covered expenditures we've had that will eventually be moved into various grants that we get for covid our capital we have 10.10 percent left and our adjacent ways is at 60 percent available it's the bus lane completely done at the middle earth so minor finishing work but the lanes being used the the fences are out there some rip rap that needs to be laid down but uh and so we're trying to figure out we're hoping to maybe put some automatic gates up so that the drivers can't get out when there's kids on the bus so sometimes the gates are being left open and we
041need to work out a system for that but it's um fantastic fantastic thank you um item seven approval of the consent agenda we skipped one right student activity student activity fund report not a whole lot to talk about with student activity anyway they just have a few encumbrances nothing major everyone's still in the black so that's good [Applause] thank you okay now [Music] okay [Music] item 8a additional girls basketball coach um mr schull i didn't know that hannah combat worked our hms ad was going to be here do you want to address kind of the need for the the extra girls basketball coach so we're having uh you know female support for the protection of our two male coaches we wanted to bring on a female staff member to make sure that they were just
042covering their bases and making smart choices and we talked about this position and you know phrasing it in a way that if we had two female coaches for a male sport we would do the same thing in that situation so it's a half stipend for 750 being offered to the assistant coach supervisor for bus trips away trips and locker room supervision um are we going to be able to have middle school spark we're we're hoping hoping right i think that's a good place like if the aia says that we can have high school sports so do they say we couldn't have middle school sports no but there's no one to play necessarily okay so you know we're not just having the practice we just don't know yet okay yeah sorry i have a kid that's
043like dying to play for her and i know that there's other kids that are dying to play i'm meeting with the tri-city middle school athletic directors thursday afternoon i was waiting for the outcome of this meeting so we would have something to tell them but it does sound like they are hoping to have some sort of season where they would allow their online kids to come and participate as well as well awesome all right well i hope that that i hope that happened nope this is an action item i appreciate emotion please promotion to approve the additional girls basketball coach all in favor all right thank you okay item 8b personnel report there is a supplement so make sure that you refer to that as well looks like we have about eight new classified we
044have a couple resignations two certified changes um looks like two four six eight nine class um [Music] ten classified changes actually and then a slew of coaches um coming up for and some of those are at heritage for we have a change on it on the assistant coach we have a couple we have the girls basketball coach and wrestling coach at the middle school and then we have the ctso stipend stands for current technical student organization so that would be like ffa and skills usa and ffcla which is the colony arts student organization so those have to do those are the cte organizations that these teachers supervise so that's what the ctso stipends are for okay any questions you know appreciate a motion to approve the personnel report and supplement i will make a motion
045to approve the personnel report and the supplement all in favor thank you item 9a um annual financial report rebecca please okay so fiscal year 1920 is now closed thank goodness um so we're looking at some numbers with our m l there was some variances within you know increases decreases within certain functions overall our m o we only increased 1.7 percent of our expenditures for regular education for a special ed we increased 4.9 with our expenditures and then and then our capital our capital expenditure increased by quite a bit by um like 99 but that's because of the additional capital we were able to have from the reinstatement of capital so overall we did we ended the year really well have any questions questions anybody that is what was the total carryover to this year it's
046about 800 000. yeah but 400 000 we were already accounting for so we basically only have an additional 400 uh which we're going to need with the loss of adm right so so that actually ended up being a good team was the was the 400 000 that we were accounting for for textbooks no that's we accounted for that in our mno as carryover for this fiscal year also it's an additional 400 thousand two times additional that we can now account for with our december budget revision okay one one thing that i wanted to mention uh point out that i went over with penny is there's a page in here uh one on one that talks about one of one that talks about food service and the food service the number of meals that we serve
047and i wanted to grab that because it's pretty impressive how many food service meals so we fed we did 303 almost 304 000 breakfasts 242 000 lunches and the these are um under a la carte it's uh it talks about the number of meals but it's kind of an equivalent to what a meal would be so it's like almost 8 000 equivalent meals and we did over 19 000 snacks so if you add them all up we did almost are well over 550 000 meals is what we served last year now would have been from july 1 to june 30th so it doesn't include this summer which was pretty i think we did a pretty good job this summer because they were free meals but those meals that we did from that does include those
048meals that we did in march april may and june of last year when a lot of the meals were free but we're serving over half a million meals or we did last year any other questions this is an action item could someone please make the motion for the approval of the 1920s [Music] all in favor um item 9b schedule for in-person instruction mr schull so this you know you you heard from a lot of people and and i had a chance to meet with i think eight parents yesterday morning um and what i heard from them is you know a lot of struggles and and i understand that um and i wanted to i have some i told them that if they would email me that i would read um you the email and some
049of them are along so i'm going to kind of paraphrase i can't i just don't want to read it all because i think um we would kind of lose some people but there's some things that i want to just read this is from kenzie ditko i am writing a response in regards to our meeting today about in-person learning i have three boys ages 8 10 and 13 so third fifth and eighth grades online schooling was terrible the hybrid schedule is just as bad my kids aren't learning anything and their grades show it the virus isn't going anywhere are we going to keep these kids out of school forever please take a poll of parents i can almost guarantee that the majority will want to ignore the benchmarks and send our kids to school full-time they
050need their children that they need their teachers in interaction with their friends we feel as though we are failing our children i know you are concerned for the kids safety and while i appreciate that let us parents decide if it's safe for our kids to come to school please we encourage you to change your mind and send the kids back to school full-time in person learning thank you for your time this one is from ali dafoe and um it's three pages but she has six points that i just want to kind of read that kind of summarize what she wanted to share i believe number one teachers don't have experience with online instruction and some of the videos that are supposed to be teaching my daughter complicated math are almost useless i hope you can
051access this video to see what i mean teachers are depending on outside source this is number two teachers are dependent on outside sources to grade work and tests and the grades are not accurate i am attaching an example sent to the same math teacher to which i have yet to receive this response once they complete and submit an online assignment to date they have all been online it's it is gone and irretrievable we don't know which question she got wrong or what we need to review i've noticed the mcgraw math site requires a specific answer format to give credit for a correct answer but we don't know what these formats are in order to do it right i'm not complaining because my daughter has a bmf but i think she should get the grade she's
052earned and i sincerely don't think that this is happening i summarized that a little bit or shortened it number three um we are not getting good online instruction i've seen ridiculously short instructional videos that are very little help offered more times than i care to admit to that end if i can if i have to search other online instructions to teach my child why am i struggling with and wasting time on cbs cb usd content in hopes that one day it will be better well in the meantime my daughter falls further and further behind in a cumulative learning subject such as math and before they missed an entire quarter of instruction and it was up it was just let go i thought for certain some sort of review would be offered to help them transition
053from being out of school for so long number five it is detrimental to parent child relationships when we have to fight and beg our kids to do homework especially um when the above disadvantages are added to the mix number six google classroom appears to have some hiccups and we are depending on it as our online education platform we got told we didn't check into classes when we and when we look the attendance marker is there we do an assignment and it disappears so we have to do it again or lose credit so some some frustration there and the last one that i want to read from a parent a very long email just kind of summarizing i'm writing and this was from lucy felton i'm writing to this email today to express to you why
054i feel that opening schools would be the best interest of our students and some concerns i have i have three kids one on each campus the rio heritage and china valley high school i realize the importance of urgency the concern is over the current situation in the pandemic that we are going through however this virus has an extremely high recovery rate and the death toll is extremely low that being said i just feel that our students are suffering in many other ways then with the virus itself i'm going to skip ahead no matter what we can't run from this virus we have to face it head-on we have to keep doing the things that we have been doing and stop being so scared look at other places that have gone about life normally they're doing
055very well we need to start putting our kids first and keep their minds learning i allowed my three kids to or my kids to choose how they wanted to start the school year off so i have one doing hybrid and two that are that stayed home all three are not doing well this year then before when the school full-time started and then last i would have this is um we heard from uh miss rosscock earlier this is actually from her daughter that i wanted to just kind of read and it's a letter and this is just the last paragraph overall i want to go back to school full-time because i do not like online i kind of like hybrid and i have goals for next quarter i want life to go back to normal i
056want to go back to school full-time so that's from from bella so um i promised to read these so i wanted to kind of fulfill that um the i shared and i understand that people are they want to get back i want and i've been saying this from the beginning students he knows valley students learn better in school and chino valley teachers teach better when the kids are in school i understand that the arizona department of health services gave us these recommended benchmarks to utilize to use as guides to determine when it's safe for kids to go back to school over the weekend there were 27 cases in yavapai county for that's three days so an average of nine per day of those 27 cases 25 of them were in the quad city area the
057i gave you information about the number of cases and those are cases that already been determined they're saying that we should have 10 cases per hundred thousand when kids should be coming back full-time instruction with that population of about 233 thousand residents in yampa county that means that we should have 23 cases in a week and as i mentioned to you on the floor on the data this the week of the 27th which was last week which is the last full week that we have there were 66 cases when they're recommending that we'd be down to 23. so we're um well over twice that almost three times that um i you know there's some some parents spoke about how they want to be able to make the decision when to send kids to school um
058then and take the risk for those for those um kids and i understand that and they have that right to do that um there are some paths and some of them mentioned that that they don't there are parents out there that um don't have the ability or don't have the desire to to do that for their kids um there are also um 300 staff members that we have to look at after the average age of the of that of those staff members is over is in their 50s um and that means that we have about half our staff that is in uh considered the the um hazardous age range when it comes to covet so we're looking out for it for them as well um i think it would be a different question if cases
059weren't going up for the next for three weeks in a row um and it concerns me so one of the things that i i mentioned this uh during the meeting yesterday with the with the um parents couple promises that i made that i'm going to follow through on one was to take a survey of staff members to see you know if we go to if we say we're going to come back in in person we now we may not have the staff to come back in person and that concerns me and so we wanted this week to send out a staff survey to find out who would be willing to come back if we didn't meet the benchmarks the other is a parent survey and i was thinking about this we discussed this yesterday we
060were i was thinking about it overnight i don't want to just send out a survey to everybody and hoped for results back on one of the conversations that we had yesterday in our meeting is when we do that a lot of times we get less than 50 percent respondents and i don't think it's an accurate gauge of of um what the feelings of the parents are just because we don't there's parents that may not have internet things like that so we need to make some phone calls so i want to set up and have some staff make some phone calls to parents to so that we get accurate data and i'm hoping to do that next week so we can have some information from parents not that these things would it's not a vote it's
061to find out this information about what our parents want as far as instruction goes um we need to remember right now with even with hybrid hybrid we have a third of our parents that have decided to keep their kids home now as a qualifier um some of the and i think some um one of the parents mentioned in in the letters that i read that um the parents are giving the kids options and so that that's that's one of it one of the the issues and maybe the kids are choosing that depends but i think with that said a lot of the parents that a lot of the kids that i know that have chosen to stay home is because none of their friends got up the same the day that they they did so
062i think that that makes a huge that that plays a huge role i know like a most everybody i know that kid chose to stay home is because their their friends didn't get on the same day that they did um the other and some parents are staying home because they don't want their kids to wear masks and i need to say that that the mask mandate is out of our control out of your control that's something that is being determined by an executive order that the governor said that masks are required and the board has to come up with a policy uh mandating masks and that can only be lifted by the department of health services the arizona department health services so if we come back in person um or when we come back in
063person it's going to be with masks and so i think people are willing to do that right and i agree i agree i do agree with that so um the the the increase in cases bugs me it really does we had a conversation today we had district leadership team meeting today um i think there was a really good conversation in that in that um we the the principals want to get kids back also um but at the same time we don't want to lose teachers and so we need to balance that and we don't know you know we've talked to teachers uh principals and talk teachers but we don't know we don't have a good idea who's who would be coming back if we said we're coming back um right now or coming back on
064the 19th without that information so my recommendation and it's a little bit different than what i wrote here so i wanted to make sure that that that we are clear on what the recommendation is my recommendation is to continue hybrid instruction for right now and it says um initially it was until all the the on three benchmarks in the minimal risk range for two weeks i want to take that part out i don't i want to maybe evaluate that need that right now i'd like to continue hybrid instruction we also want to maintain the option of at home learning for those families that would like their students to continue at home families would continue to have the option at the end of each quarter to change their mind we've had we have parent teacher conferences
065k um k5 this week and teachers are taught or should be they've been um i've asked the administrators to follow through on this parents or teachers should be talking to parents to those online kids do you want to come back to hybrid if we're in hybrid so those conversations are taking place we are having a lot of kids come back into hybrid from online we are so we want to maintain that for at least the second quarter okay um then based on the based on the information from the parent survey that we'll get based on the information from the staff survey that we get and then also conversations that i want to have with the health department evaluate at that time um evaluate during the week of the 19th whether to move to all in-person
066instruction i don't want to put a date out there because i think that that can be harmful um because then people assume that that's it but i i want to promise that we'll evaluate you know based on the information that from the parent survey the staff survey if we don't have staff the sas say they're going to be gone i don't want to do a j.o combs which is a school district that down in in phoenix that said they were going to go all in person and they had to back out because there were no teachers to teach the kids but you know i i heard the frustration yesterday of the parents i did at the same time i i need to put the health of the kids and the parent and it's i'm like
067the kids you know i have to balance health of staff and help kids and the quality of instruction i'm trying to do that um but right now i i'm not ready to recommend that we come back all in person on the 19th i have a question yeah um have you asked the staff yet how they the staff and teachers have you taken that survey yet we're going to do that this week okay i think that result will be pretty critical i actually have com questions and then comments so a few things struck out to me as people were talking and i'd like to know if they're facts before we actually decide on anything um are 50 of our kids failing do we know not not to my knowledge um there's there's a significant number that
068are and i don't mean to interrupt but we talked about this in our meeting yesterday and there was concern that a lot of the grades were way down so can we have that number in this meeting i don't have that number i don't have that number to share with you we had that conversation yesterday and we were told that the grades were pulled and that they they were telling all different stories or different chapters in a book but it didn't sound like they were good so they were full so that's why i'm asking as a parent i have not seen any great i haven't seen any great data so i don't know can i just say that i spoke today with the superintendent of galapagos of all the schools and he told me yes it
069is true it was it mr carter that he spoke with yes it was he doesn't have access to that information to know whether it's true or not i don't know what the what the information what he's talking about okay i understand but he doesn't have access to that to know whether it's true or not he has everyone that i've spoken is saying that that is happening that's cindy yeah and i can't say that it's 50 or 60 or 35 percent because i didn't look at it that way i did talk to all the principals and reviewed it and lee expressed it i think very very well we have a significant number of kids that are really struggling in school which i'm going to get to my personal experience here in just sec there's other county
070schools i think it was lindsay that mentioned it and i actually looked up camp verdi because i wasn't sure which ones it is how are other yavapai county schools operating under the same guidelines that we are it's just a question i don't know i i'm curious i know a little bit about camp birdie in particular okay a significant number of their students are uh are native american and the reservation has chosen not to send their native american kids to school so there's a good chunk and i don't know what that percentage is i i can't say but a good chunk of that of those um kids aren't going to school because of that um they're not part of a you know we're part of a fairly large i don't want to say it's not suburban
071but you know one of the one of the concerns i have is we are part of the quad cities when i drive in you know i've lived in in prescott for um 20 almost 24 years and i drive in every day and there's more and more cars that are leaving chino than coming in latino because we have parents that are working live in chino and working in prescott we have students that are live in prescott and live in prescott valley that come to school here we have staff members like myself that live in prescott and prescott valley so to say let's look at just chino valley is a is a little bit um we are part of a larger community that i think we need to consider camp verde is its own ice kind of
072isolated area fairly distant from other somewhat isolated areas um and not nearly as large as what's going on on this side of the mountain thank you so we and we are the third largest district in the in the county after prescott and humboldt okay um now some comments i did not go to sleep until about four o'clock this morning thinking about this i wrote probably six or seven responses that i ended up crumpling and throwing away i am a parent of a high schooler that i don't advertise it's not fair to my child to have a school board mother it's not fair to his teachers to have a school board my mother so i do not advertise that my son is not a strong student never has been most likely never will be he's failing
073every single class every single class was he has he's worked very hard because he's also a football player and he wanted to make sure he could play friday night i've heard teachers are not working hard to get this get the students up that is absolutely incorrectly put it beautifully i know teachers that my son specifically was working with him on fridays and saturdays and sundays to get him back up but the system did not work for him i don't think it's working for anyone else please don't think that that has made up my mind i'm just talking here i really meant to have something written and i decided i needed to see how the meeting went before i spoke or not there are things in google classroom and on tyler sis that for example say
074that he got 25 out of 25 and it still says he has an f in that particular subject or that particular line things he turns in in google classroom turns out to be blank pieces of paper that i have sat and watched him do i work 40 hours a week my husband is home with him we are very fortunate family we have the the means and the capabilities to be home with him and to be on top of him and have it have him be able to do his best my heart goes out to you families that do not have that capability to be with your your children on a daily basis to help them with their struggles i i want him back in school i want him back in school six weeks ago i
075don't know that that's the right option i i don't know where to go with this and i mean that completely and totally openly and honestly i almost feel like we don't have enough information to make a decision tonight i don't know if that's an option um but i just really almost feel like i would love to hear from the staff before i just arbitrarily made a decision from the teachers i would love to hear from the parents more parents before we just arbitrarily made that decision i would just like to reevaluate all of it i know next week is his fall break and we're supposed to start that next week i get it i'm willing to meet on sunday afternoon i'm willing to meet at eight o'clock in the morning i'm willing to do whatever
076it takes to make the right decision instead of a hasty decision i i agree um i want to speak out too i do have three kids that are in the district one that's a junior and he's a good student by good i mean he's good um education wise maybe not like so good in the classroom but anyways um he this on what this hybrid thing is not working for him he this last week he has been busting his butt to get his grades up because i'm like if you want to drive you better get your grades up it's just not working for him he's very very smart but he responds better to in-person learning now my seventh grader she misses her other kids that aren't going to school the same time that she is and
077i'm going to tell you my kindergartner probably is the one that's mostly affected he's getting the word he's got a great teacher but their kindergarten experience isn't what kindergarten experience should be you know they're have to stand away from each other they don't even get to play on the playground they don't get to play on the on the jungle gym or whatever they call it now i'm not sure and he wears this mask all the time and he's sick you know i feel so bad for him i didn't get on the school board for personal gain or financial gain obviously because this is not okay i got on to make a difference and if i'm gonna be one of the ones that stands up and voices my opinion and is the one that makes a
078difference then that's the way it's going to be and as of right now i am for these kids getting back in school as soon as they can yeah i'm i see patients all day long and i have never shut my doors through all this covet we do the temperature checks some patients wear a mask i do not wear a mask no none of my staff do they have the option if they want to um in since march i have found out that i've had two patients that were not actively treating that were exposed they did their self quarantine no one hospitalized or anything and listening to experts on the news and everything they say to get the kids back in school right now i don't have a child in school my child goes to trinity
079christian he does not wear a mask the teachers wear a face shield when they're teaching they've been back since august 17th they've had no positive cases or anything they're playing sports they have limited travel but and i don't put any faith in the numbers that we see from the state the cdc because those numbers are so skewed there's too many false positives or tests that were never done that were read as positive so i don't put faith in that and if my son was in this school district i would say go to school and all of i treat quite a few teachers and they all want to go back to school because they're not they're not fulfilling themselves with the hyper method or the online because they don't see those kids enough especially like the
080kindergarteners to build that one-on-one relationship with those kids so in my opinion i say put the kids back to school sure did you have something well the only thing that i could contribute is to see your teachers who come up with an alternate teaching method sort of a hands-on thing a project that students could do which would include words that are spelling lists or math problems that would have to do with the project to make it more interesting to work on at home and i'm not quite sure what that would be but i would be interested in helping see if we could identify some projects that would work and help kids be interested in what they're doing that's what i would say because just a list of activities may not do it thank you well
081i think i'm curious to know why we can't have an option so that the parents who want their kids to go to school can opt in the ones those that uh want just at home can opt out and be at home we already know a third want to be at home and those that want to remain hybrid or online can do that we we don't have the ability of the teaching staff to do all three we need we can we'll continue the at home no matter what okay whether we're hybrid or all in person but to try to do and then we need to decide is it hybrid you know we'll do at home and then one of the other two options either hybrid or all in person we don't have the teaching the the
082ability to do that especially when you talk about what's going on at the heist at you know high school it's a little bit easier at k5 just because we have teachers that actually just teach at home but at from middle school and high school the teachers are teaching at home and in person so it's not it's not we really don't have the capacity to do all three i have a question so right now they see the kids that are in person in school they see them 50 of the time during the week correct and then they see the other half 50 of the time correct so what do you think the percentages of the kids that are going to come back do you think it's going to be that big a percentage because in my
083opinion i don't think that's going to be if you're going to if parents are already choosing to keep their kids at home there's a good majority of them that keep going to keep them home so these teachers are already being exposed to these kids and so that's that's what my question is i mean i just tried to look at the logistics of it they're being exposed to these kids not not as a whole but they're still being exposed they but they we with the only half the kids in the classroom there's much easier chances of social distancing and not just in the classroom we're also talking about buses we have kids that are on a bus from paulden for an hour and so when we have only we have about a third say we have
084a third monday wednesday a third tuesday thursday and a third at home so that means we have only about a third of the kids on in a bus at any one time so kids can spread out on a bus instead of having we'll say 60 kids there's only 20 kids and they can spread out and so it's it's a matter of when we do the hybrid the reason for the hybrid is to be able to maintain social distancing really um at lunch and at lunch they're not wearing masks because they're eating obviously so it's you know it's even much more that important um to maintain that social distancing so really it's a you know the exposure's there but it's a social distancing issue as well can i just add one thing these kids get together
085anyways they're they're at each other's homes anyways and they're playing sports they're playing sports they're on the bus they go to church together they are together anyways so sports are allowed but back in school it's not the bars are open i mean last week the governor said we have met all of our benchmarks i watched him on tv open our schools these kids but if they come to school and you're separating them and they're not getting to see each other they're meeting up anyways these teenagers are they're finding their friends are hanging out for spending the night mr schultz himself yesterday in the video that i watched said we have had zero cases i just think that um you know as a parent if i was super concerned with my kid's safety then i would
086take it in my own hands and keep my child help but i am not i i think one of the most important things that we have is education and i can tell you right now my kids are not getting a good education and it's not the teacher's fault and it's not their fault and it's it's this whole thing that's happened but i look at the statistics like dr bowen said and i look at the recovery and i look at the youth that gets it and i i you know i i've dealt with it firsthand and i mean i don't know i just think that these kids need to be back in school i think the key is going to be in the in the survey that you do of the teachers how many would stay
087if we went in in person and i agree with cindy that we need more information so we can make a better and a more educated decision because if we vote today and we say and we send them back october 19th does that mean cindy and john and everyone else are going to be in the classrooms teaching right because we don't have teachers and i think we need to get the teachers i'm okay with getting the teacher's opinion and i honestly think we're going to find out that the teachers want these kids back in school most everybody that i've most of the teachers that i've talked to who haven't already done that haven't gotten you kids we should have been surveying how is it going how what's working what's not working from the beginning i work
088for a mexican restaurant in town we have not been wearing masks we are not obligated to our masks because it is not required by the health department we have worked side by side with the health department it is not a requirement i see all these teenagers going in we we are right by the university every riddle all these kids come in 10 15 at a time they're not wearing masks so that's i don't see the concern i mean i do see the concern and it's obviously a virus that is going to stay it's here to stay it's not going anywhere next together it's up to yes ma'am i worked for ycso we all got chronovirus i had it for the life of me i couldn't keep my kid away from me no matter how much
089i pushed him and told him stay out of my room he came around me almost every day he went around with friends not a single one of them got it everybody my work got it half of them didn't show any signs most of them it was like a bad cold we got over it none of their kids got it none of their kids spread it to anybody else my kid even though i told him you need to stay home i'm sick still would take off go with his friends go over to other parents house their parents didn't get sick this is not a problem we have to worry about this is the flu yes we have this every year this is just the first time that somebody put a label on it and spreading around
090the news i'm scared every night and terrified everybody our kids are suffering my kids came from a broken home i took them on they're my nephews this is the only escape they have you guys are hurting them and i get calls every day from other kids there are worse situations of mine and i gotta sit there and talk to them why they're crying online learning what are the subjects that are targeted to teach it's my favorite okay i have a ton of administrative support um it's been a great place to work and i've worked with john on his superintendence committee i mean i don't have a lot of bad things to say um it's always been solution oriented is where i'm going with this so when we have them probably from the solution i serve
091as the athletic director at heritage and we're talking about how bad these kids grades are i left the school today on time for the first time for a very long time and i teach pe and i'm teaching the same thing to sixth seventh and eighth grade and i'm overwhelmed and my co-workers are teaching different curriculums to each of those content areas and their content areas and we're being told that we have to have summative and you know different grades it's impossible okay i am guilty of sitting there in front of my screen and i was on the phone with our schedule i said i just input a zero to a kid that clicked submit but there was nothing attached and when we had to recreate these classrooms all of our kids were in one classroom
092i had a sixth grade pe classroom and pe online was kind of a joke anyways more balls are stuck on people's ropes right now because we tried something that didn't work okay but when we had to switch to the online hybrid half of those kids had to switch to a different classroom because there's no way i could have communicated that so now i have an online and a hybrid for each grade so i have six online classrooms and four in class kids there are classes i'm teaching like 12 sections you know and it's impossible so with the solution-oriented part if they cared about their grades if they had a reason to do their online work because they knew that we were going to look at them i have no idea how we're going to evaluate
093quarter one grades for those kids that want to play basketball if we get approval to do that yeah you know what i mean like how how can we move forward with the solution to some of the problems that will help motivate these kids i i don't know who's on the phone i'm going to be honest but it's hard enough to engage them in person how are we going to put together these creative you know i love the idea and it sounds great but we can't get them interested when they're sitting in front of us how are we going to do it over a screen you know we someone's talking in the audience i wrote a letter to john uh he didn't read it he read mr robert which was outstanding and i agree with a
094lot of his points as far as having family members i shared for my 92 year old grandma all summer i have not seen back to school she fell and hit her head last week it's not easy but i feel like we've been exposed since november my children had it last year when it first started they had colors their doctors could not figure out what it was why because they didn't have a label on a.m all three of them have asthma we have asthma and thank god they're fighting well i think i'm an auto immunization i think that we're going to honor you i appreciate everybody talking and us engaging and everything and i really do appreciate the kindness i that's my main thing i appreciate everybody coming and being respectful and kind that's so one
095thing that i've asked for i think we're going to come to a conclusion that we possibly are going to table this is that what we're but if you come to the decision where the kids cannot go back to school and you feel it's safer for staff and students to stay home and continue the online can we please come up with a solution to help the students who are struggling my kid also has the same problem with turning in his work half of it is not even there that's a part of the problem as well is there a possibility we can have a date that we will know as parents so i think right now what we're going to say is we're going to we're going to make a motion we're going to make a motion
096right now to to table i'm going to tell you guys all we're going to do whatever we can like you guys know cindy and i both have kids in the district that are both struggling that better that are struggling we want what's best not just for our kids but for everybody else too so with that said let's move on for this for this i'll make a motion i have a question if we table it when is it as soon soonest we can get together and go over that data to make it still safe and attainable i believe that we could have most of the staff done this week you know i'm thinking that that it would take at least part of next week to do the [Music] 2000 calls that we would have to do
097i know we've had some volunteers i think it's just better just to pay our staff um we have a lot of aids that aren't working next week that we could have them come in and and pay them to do those phone calls and um so forth i understand i understand um i think it's just for me personally honestly as far as statistics go the teachers are what i'm concerned about more than that because we can have that like you know i can i can probably get that um out tomorrow so i agree with annie if you don't want your kids in school stay online right right right but i but like you we are also saying if our teachers are saying hey we're we don't want to do this or we're going to go find
098another job then we're going to need to re-evaluate that but i'm saying if a good majority of our teachers are like which it sounds like they're let's get our kids back in school that's what i think is the most important right the other concern i have is trying to transition from hybrid to in person doesn't happen overnight does not happen overnight um we would need to give the staff a little bit of of lead time to prepare for that so shouldn't staff already be preparing for the october 19th date right now they think that they know what my recommendation is they may not be okay okay so when as soon as you think you would have those results from the teachers i think we could have it or we could ask we can insist that
099teachers fill it out by the end of the day um thursday okay good so it's something that we can try to do um i would have to do it you know we can do it in on a google meet or a zoom or on phone for me anytime next week to get this figured out what would be evaluating those results well so there's a we would i'm planning on using a google survey that would go out to our staff it would track the respondents so we knew who was responding so we couldn't have one person that would respond multiple times and then that's that information gets dumped into a spreadsheet and um evaluated based on the information that goes into the spreadsheet right so i guess what my point is i don't want one person
100who goes one way looking at those results and coming to their conclusion where maybe people from both sides can see and agree on the result of that survey the results that we're looking at is how many we talked about it today it's going to be one question if this is what what's happening are you coming back yeah and so it's not we're not talking about a ton of questions or anything we're looking at one question so by the end of next week we're not going to give any numbers we'll have a response yeah we will have the results available by thursday and getting together as i think we have talked about you guys getting together early next week is what we have talked about right yeah okay can i say something can you change the
101question back to am i allowed to go can you change the questions i'm sorry i'm sorry someone's speaking thank you may say a different answer could you would it be reasonable to say when do you go back so they know that inevitably we're going back and they have to make a final decision well in the clarify and and we'll try to clarify that the reason is when we go back they're expected to work when we're within the benchmarks if that was the initial that was the initial plan the question is if we go back because we're not going to be within the benchmarks i guarantee that within the 10 the 10 cases per hundred thousand that's not going to happen by the end of march end of october sorry the end of october anybody's work
102agreement or work contract so you guys have the right to decide if we're going back and win so i agree but at the same time they need to understand you know work to be honest if they want to resign they can resign right absolutely but i just want it to not be promising to resign and then not resigning you know what i mean i i'm just saying if you say if they might still think there's some skin in the game oh i got you and they might think they have power to i just want it like will you will you yes that's a good point thank you thank you lee okay i have one more comment that i want to make i apologize throughout tonight and of course reading social media and different things which
103i promise i try not to do there seems to be a lot of distrust amongst administration and the board too from outsiders and by outsiders i mean parents let me just say it like it is i want you to know again as a parent i trust this administration probably more than any other administration that's been around and i have children that have been in the school district since the late 1990s these people are working for your children please please don't think that they're working against you trust us please the best you can but i don't i think this is such a mess that nobody knows i think we've been given a very bad hand we've been dealt a very bad hand and we are trying to do the best we can with what we have
104and like i have said one of the main things i've said is that that i've stressed is that people just really need to be kind and not call our school and yell at whoever for whatever problems they have and again i will tell you this we are volunteers up here all four of us we are doing i told you i did not doing this for personal gain heck i'm not didn't do it for financial gain and i did it to make a difference and obviously i'm running i ran for another four year term which might be punishment at this point but i'm still here so i'm not moving my kids out of this district and i'm with cindy i believe in this administration i some of our teachers some of our principles are the best
105that there is so just trust that i'm asking you guys all trust that we're going to make the right decision because we're going to get everything we can to make it yeah when we had to make the hard choice of closing school in march no one could even fathom that we were going to be here this year still trying to figure this out yeah i'm done so let's pick a date next week and how how long ahead of time do we need to post 24 hours 24 okay so any day next week we could um docu go ahead i have a a full day um thursday morning so thursday doesn't work for you guys earlier in the week probably yeah we do like either sunday or monday so i'm thinking tuesday to 13th tuesday the
10613th does that work by zoom or by phone we'll do something probably like google meets or something yeah okay uh do you want to keep it under a regular five o'clock morning or earlier what about yeah you're the one that has that i think earlier where are we gonna google me or come here yeah what we'll do is we'll put something on the screen for those that can't be here um and it could be however many people and we can put somebody on the phone okay i'm gonna have to be on the phone because i'm good so i'm coming in so i prefer to be here mr fulmer are you gonna be around next week can we can you be um in charge of making sure that we're hooked up for google meet at whatever
107time on tuesday thank you thank you two o'clock sherry did you hear that yeah okay can you hear me now all right two o'clock on thursday i mean tuesday the 13th in the boardroom or uh by phone what's happening here another meeting we're tabling this item okay okay well the motion's not made yet but we think we're tabling yes okay all right so we need a motion please i will make a motion to table item 9b until we have more information on the for scheduling in-person instruction to reconvene on reconvene on tuesday october 13th at 2 p.m at 2 p.m so just clarify what i'm hearing is to not move forward with the parent survey that will rely on the the staff surveillance that's correct okay very good how will we know [Music] so just
108be expecting something after tuesday at two o'clock i just got a text from matt santos who's our information officer so he'll make sure that whatever decision is made we'll get out via facebook um we'll put on the marquee put it on the marquee um get it out we can do um uh the blackboard connect calls things like that it will get out thank you so much okay thank you thank you guys for all your time we really appreciate the input a lot and there's a motion on the floor i knew that it's getting late there is a motion on the floor so all in favor posed thank you okay thank you again thank you guys so much for coming we appreciate that item 10a china valley you prop 301 plan um cindy you're going to
109present yep so thank you for the opportunity to prevent present something easy i appreciate it as you know in about the year 2000 arizona voters approved proposition 301 which was a sales tax based provision to provide additional funding to the classroom called classroom site fund it was rewritten a little bit last year when it expired and has been made a permanent fixture however a component of that is that we have a plan that's approved by the teachers and recommended to the board for approval and so we can distribute that pay to our teachers so what the law says is the plan must be approved by 70 percent of staff eligible to receive the distribution and it must also be approved by the governing board we have 115 staff members who are eligible to receive prop
110301 funds and of the staff 115 voted and the approval was 113 yes to no which makes it a 98 affirmative it includes quarterly distributions to teachers that like an extra paycheck once a quarter and it also has a twice yearly pay for performance component all of the things that are part of that pay for performance are listed in the plan that's in your packet so i would ask that you approve the plan that the teachers have approved and that would be my recommendation to you tonight if you have any questions i'm happy to answer those does anybody have any questions no we would love to hear this motion i will make a motion to approve the con or is it 01 301 plan plan all in favor aye aye thank you this meeting is
111adjourned thank you all thank you
