Once we get going, we'll have our call to order, and then the Pledge of Allegiance. Sorry, I got a little out of order. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Okay, roll call now. All right. Mr. Ostrow? Here. Mr. McGivern? Here. Mrs. Van Mariss? Here. Mr. And Mrs. Lewis? Here. Mrs. Lewis? Okay, with that, we need to approve the agenda. Any comments on the today's agenda? Mr. Peters? Yes. Mrs. Van Mariss? Yes. Mr. McGivern? Here. Mr. Ostrow? Yes. And next is to approve the minutes from March 10th meeting. I move to approve the minutes from the March meeting. I'll second it. Thank you. Mr. Peters? Yes. Mrs. Van Mariss?
Yes. Mr. McGivern? Yes. Mr. Ostrow? Yes. All right, moving right along. That takes us right to our superintendent's report. All right, good evening, everyone. President Ostrow and members of the board, thank you for being here tonight. We're going to start out with the beginning of our mission statement, like we do every month. The Camden City School District will provide a in which all individuals are challenged to achieve excellence in academics, character, and life skills. And again, our vision is building for the future, learning, cooperating, and caring. Just wanted to highlight week and spring break. Right before spring break, there was our annual volunteer brunch. We had a full house. And were there any parents here that attended the volunteer brunch or staff members? I know staff is here, but we have so many supporters that
it's just a wonderful time of year where we can thank all of the community volunteers who come and help us on that continental. State assessment testing update. Everybody Good job. It's done. Um we had 100% of the test completed for AZSCI and writing. And in oral reading fluency, we only have three makeups to do for reading and three makeups to do for math. So thank you so much, parents, for getting the students, your children here, ready to test, and um ready to show what they know. We have our makeup window closes on April 24th. We will receive third grade results on May 15th, and we will receive school-wide results on May 22nd. So we will um keep you all apprised as to what the scores look like when they come in. So thank you. Our
school facilities project update. We're still working on the roofing project. We did pause since we had testing, so they're working on the roofing. And um our south heat track unit at middle school has finally been approved by the school facilities board. So we're super excited about that. And if you have middle school students, you know um where they've been, um the issues they've been having with being too hot and too cold. So, we're finally going to get that fixed. We're looking at roughly 8 to 12 weeks. We took our seventh and eighth graders to visit the federal court. And the students observed two different court hearings. We met with Judge Warner and we explored his courtroom. Students had a great Q&A session with um four different attorneys. Lunch was provided by them and we also
were able to talk to the US Marshals and the kids were able to try out some of their equipment. So, it was a really good day of learning for our seventh and eighth grade social studies um students. Mr. Mr. Cox organized that trip. Our eighth grade civics civics trip is right around the corner. We had our um last fundraiser which was a big bowling ball tournament. And we have 43 eighth graders ready to go to DC. We will leave on May 5th and we will return May 8th. All fundraisers are complete and we just had our seventh grade balances of over $4,000 and $22,000 was raised with tax credit funds. So, again, we're very um blessed and thankful to our tax credit donors who helped make this trip possible for our eighth graders. Eighth graders
and fifth grade students visited the Marine Station at the Santa Rita hosted the federal event and it's called the Sky Island Field Station. So, it was We really want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Love for all of their hard work in organizing these field trips and spending the day to just expand the knowledge of our students of the animals that were in our own backyard. And you can see there there's huge turkey out there that showed up for the second and the fifth grade field trip. And this one, Natalie and I were trying to get back to our cars and Mrs. Harris, she'd never been chased by a turkey and she said, "Nope, I said you can run and I don't want it to be today." So, they are very intimidating those turkeys that are
out there. But, there's some more pictures and you can see the kids are swimming in the small pool that was there. They also were able to explore the creek, so it's just a great time for our kids. And Willy Wonka Junior Musical highlights. Do we have any students who were in the show here Okay. Yay, okay. We have a younger sister as well. musical production and just so proud of all of our students, Mrs. Hatch and Mrs. Rojas for their hard work in putting it all together and parents for their hard work also in ensuring students learn their lines, they were prepared. So, I saw it four times and they performed for the whole entire school. They just did an amazing job. So, congratulations. There's just some more pictures of the kids, hula hoopers and
And benefits of being the superintendent, I got to go to the green room and meet the students and give them a little pep talk. A few upcoming events, we have a busy week next week. On Tuesday, we're going to have our dual language enrichment showcase. So, students who are in dual language classes will be presenting, singing and work will be displayed. We're going to have a behind the wall candy bar. We're hoping to get a little mariachi group here. We will be raffling off some viatas. So, I hope that you can come see what our dual language students have been up to. Also, on Wednesday is Earth Day and it's going to be our greenhouse grand reopening at 8:30. So, if you want to come help us out, we will be here. We have a
bunch of projects going on for all grade levels and it really is a campus clean up day. And we will be ready for Friday, April 24th at 9:00 will be our A+ for Excellence celebration in the gym. We've invited invited a lot of community members to come and attend and we're going to celebrate our students and our teachers. So, please stop by if you can make it Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the gym. We have two special contest winners who um won the town of Santa Clarita Parks and Recreation Department Healthy Young Artist Contest for students to draw the town of Salado practice math by their favorite activities. So, congratulations to seventh grader Zoraida Hunt and sixth grader Zari Forehand from Mrs. De Boise's art class. And their art show their work is going to
be displayed at the final drone show at um the Fiesta Salado to show off how creative our kids are. Full summer academic support and enrichment for your calendars. Information will be coming soon. June 1st through June 17th, Monday through Friday Friday from 8:00 to 12:00. So, teachers are about to send letters out to parents permission slips for students to participate. And that concludes my um presentation. Thank you very much and again thank you for being here for all of you. Great. Thank you. Quick thank you to appreciation to the earners actually twice. Um for donations to towards the greenhouse. Take a look at it. It's darn near done right on the side of the south side of campus. Uh so they only gave money they sponsored us and helped us at the Jazz in the
Desert. Any jazz band members? That's it. Okay. And then some donations from Tractor Supply which you can imagine what they might have donated soil and some other accoutrements to go along with that as well as the Violet Tool Cart project. So with that it is time for Colt of the Month. Mr. Layton Welcome to Colt Families and Continental Colts. We're excited to honor you tonight as Colt of the Month. Isabella is not afraid of a challenge and comes to school each day with a positive attitude ready to learn and grow. She truly makes the most of every opportunity in the classroom and approaches her work with determination and enthusiasm. One of the most impressive things about Isabella is seeing her in action when
she serves as a classroom leader and math teacher. She confidently leads the room, asks thoughtful and probing questions, and shares insightful ideas that help deepen everyone's understanding of the lesson. Isabella has a natural ability to guide her classmates while encouraging them to think and participate. What I admire most about Isabella is how humble she is, recognizing her strengths while still being kind, respectful, and focused on helping others rather than seeking attention for herself. Even though Isabella is a strong leader and an excellent student, she remains modest and always supports her classmates. She leads by example and shows that true leadership comes from confidence, kindness, and humility. Isabella is a wonderful role model, and our classroom school and community is so lucky to have her. So proud of you, Isabella. Love, Mrs. Flowers. Giancarlo, your positive

Say "cheese". Good job. All right, with that we will take a short break. If you guys want to grab a cookie to go or hang
out with us for another half hour or so, be our guest. What? Properly. Nice to see you. >> I think so. All right, let's get on with it. Time for the consent agenda. Anybody have any comments on it before we go into the I'll read them all. A lot of stuff on there. I think we've already talked to you. I'll motion that we approve the consent agenda. I'll second that. >> Ms. Peters? Yes. Ms. Ramirez? Yes. Mr. McGiven? Yes. Mr. Osterman and I make it. And that takes us right to number 10, new business. First one is to approve the extension of Superintendent Rigo's contract as discussed in last month's executive session meeting in Washington. I'll make a motion to approve the extension of Superintendent Rigo's contract. I'll second. Ms. Ramirez? Yes. Ms. Peters? Yes.
Mr. Osterley? Yes. Mr. McGiven? Yes. All right. Next is to approve the sewing club's increase of their fee as doubled from $5 to 10. I'll make a motion to increase the fee to $10. I'll second. And that takes us to approve the uh do insurance. We have Oh, we didn't vote. Just trying to Ms. Ramirez? Yes. Ms. Peters? Yes. Mr. McGiven? Yes. Mr. Osterman and I make it. Now we can talk about the employment of Mr. Greg Wilson. Mr. Greg will give us a little color before we move on. So, our health insurance is going to have a 4% increase next year. Um our provider has made They were doing 4, 6, and 8% increases depending on your your performance over the previous year. So, we were in that group that got the lowest of
the increases. Um vision uh dental life insurance, those are all under contracts for the price of the lot. So, there was no increase in there. So, it was just a slight 4% increase within health care. And then, how many years is that 4% for? Just It just went up 4% last year and last year. Any other discussion? We've had a very small increase for the last couple of years, too. We've We've worked really hard to make sure it's small. Good job. Good job. Yeah, and especially no increase to the dental, and the vision, and life, and So, we need a motion to approve the employee benefit proposals. I move to accept the employee benefit proposals for 2016-2017. I second it. Ms. Peters? Yes. Ms. Honorias? >> Yes. Mr. McGivern? Yes. Mr. Ashworth? Yes. And next
is a motion to approve the adopted updates to policy um DI and >> So, So, we have a whole stack of them that we needed to go over first three of them last month. They are really just, as we mentioned before, just trying to clean up our policies because of all the policies, 19 were deleted. That is why the the packet is so thick. A lot of the verbage to make it dense. So, they're not anything that we need to be alarmed about. They have added information on mainly on safety, I mean, emergency operations plans. So, 19 were deleted. There's a few new ones, but they pretty much condensed them. So, that is it, Mr. McGivern. So I move to approve the updated updates to the policy and regulations. I'll second All right. Ms. Peters?
Yes. Mrs. Ammerman? >> Yes. Mr. McGovern? Yes. Mr. Osborne? >> And I'm a yes. And what we are waiting for is the district financial. All right. So I'm going to do my best to try and figure out how to get this up on the screen. Um All right. So within the M&O fund you can see that here at the bottom we are still sitting with $771,000 that are unencumbered. So uh please remember that the majority of those funds are still sitting within uh benefits that have not been paid yet. Um but it is looking like we will be able to finish the year with about 100 125,000 left over, which is up from our previous estimate of 50. Um we received our check from the solar so we were able to transfer those funds that
we spent on electricity to cover that check. That was like $170,000. So we are we are in a good spot right there financially. Um we do have some food service expenses that have been popping up within M&O. Um one of the things that we're going to have to consider for next year is increasing prices for school lunches and breakfasts. Um just the cost of food it keeps going up and with our prices being where it's been for the year so it's not So we've been covering some expenses within food service with that all funds. So with that I bring to you any questions and your approvals. Great that 125,000 you mentioned. Yes. Is that going to go in our reserves and help our audit findings? No, what that does is it just frees up the
funding that we've already spent with So what it does is it covers electricity bills that we've already paid. Okay. So the check that we get from the solar company just covers the bills or what we were supposed to save with the solar. I understand. I am. How much is school lunches? Right now I want to say I think the full a fully paid lunch is a dollar 25, I believe. I believe. I'd have I'd have to look it up to be sure. I'm like, "Wow, that's pretty." Yeah. I love that. Okay. It's more like three dollars. No, it's not three dollars. That's three dollars. I thought it was three dollars 25. Let me look. Let me pull it up. Up to 30. Oh my 230 is lunch. Breakfast is a dollar 15. What is the
lunch price? 230 for lunch. And then breakfast is is a dollar 15. Are we looking at an increase of Probably about 10 to 15 cents per student. That's not bad at all. And are kids allowed to pay cash or do they use the parent account. So they can pay with cash they can give they can give the cafeteria cash and just add it into their account. But most of the previous students Previous ones Any comments? I move to approve the district financial report as presented in the packet. Second. All right, Ms. Peters? Yes. Ms. Zamorris? >> Yes. Mr. McGavin? Yes. Mr. Austin? Yes. And Next is to accept fiscal year 2025 financial audit and question Okay, so let me get back down to Bright Way Elementary. So these are going to be the findings that
we ended up on our final audit from the from the previous fiscal year. So we um we were coding some non-technology repairs to a fund number that is no longer to a object code that is no longer accepted. They go under the breakdown between educational technology and regular technology. So that's what the first one is. There's a 16430. We have one check that they found that was deposited after 8 days and not within the 7 days. Um so that was one of 12. Um we didn't have anything within the governing board. We had nothing within budgeting, nothing within inventory, property control, um expenditures, travel, credit cards. Um, when we get further down into procurement um some cooperative contracts that we use Omnia and save. Do you do diligence? We did due diligence on those, but
we didn't do it on the specific vendors. So, the next time we do any purchasing using a contract through Omnia or purchasing, we need to make sure that we're doing the due diligence and background checks on those. Um, we had that one emergency procurement um, for when the sewer was backed up and we had um, the sewage backing up and we already had plumbers here on site. Um we did not prepare a formal written statement documenting the basis for the emergency why we selected that contractor and why the price paid was reasonable. Um, we chose them because they were here and they were already working on the plumbing in another area, so so because we didn't specifically write it down, they gave us that finding um, the sole source document, we had no changes to
it, so we didn't bring it up for any approvals. Um, but this the auditor general's office also wants a new form on their sole source. So, we have that, you guys have already approved that that new document. Um, there were no findings within the classroom site fund, no findings within payroll or financial reporting. Within student attendance um, we had two elementary two elementary students and a junior high students tested that they did not accurately calculate partial day attendance. Um so we put them in for full day absences based upon their minutes and their minutes actually showed them being a half day and then the other one was vice- was just the opposite. Um and then the other another finding with the student attendance was we have one student who was supposed to show up uh
on on on a specific date and it had that date on their paperwork. They were sick that day so they didn't show up until the next day. So the date on the paperwork and the date on the computer didn't match. So they they found that and made that finding. And we were having some issues uploading our our getting our ADM to match with what ADE was reporting. Um so we understated our ADM our membership by 103 and our absences by 3,403. So it was just a matter of getting what we were reporting in our system to upload correctly with ADE. Um that has also been corrected. There were no findings with NIT, technology, records management, or with our long-term debt. So with that I will open it up to y'all for discussions and any approvals.
We can go through the financial part of the audit if you like. I was just giving you the the high the the overview of what they had actually found while they were here. And while they were here. Cuz they they spent three days here on site. A lot of the other work and stuff that we had to upload and send to them. I have a quick question. Yes, sir. Yeah. Um Ruth had some questions last meeting regarding the audit of the consolidated equity accounts. You say she had some questions the audit in the last meeting. Was that Drew, do you mean the auditor general's versus the audit? Read read that again. You had a question about um I don't know what it was, but um Did somebody else do you have any questions? No, no
I was going to talk to Chief. Chief did that. Okay, cuz I remember she had some questions about costs, but I don't remember Is that what you were thinking what it was she asked for clarification in the last meeting? Yes, yes. All right, 3 minutes. Try that. Chief, finally. That's Okay. All in order. I motion in order. Before you give the motion, it's specific. It says that you have to accept all audits and the alliance questionnaire. So, when you give the motion, you have to make sure that it says that you're accepting the audits. >> So, I motion to accept the fiscal year 2025 financial audit and questionnaire. I second. All right. Ms. Pierce? Yes. Ms. Humphrey? Yes. Mr. McGavin? Yes. Mr. Austin? This All right. And that takes us to page and almost a
full page of activities between now and the end of the year. Number um 8th grade graduation is the 20th of May. 19th is kindergarten. You've never been to the kindergarten graduation. Bring a box of Kleenex. Where's the men? Excuse me, guys. It's Yeah. I don't even many times you said it, that's crazy. But okay. All right. Please just check in or let us know when you're coming so we can recognize board members who attend. No, I see two of you. I think seats will be saved in the front for AB Community Charter. So if you let us know when you get here, we've got a spot. And there's no call to the public? Yeah. For discussion here at the end? I do want to add that as we mentioned at the last board meeting, that
we were going to be working on the financial risk action plan templates for the areas of risk of the Auditor General. So we have done them. They are working documents. What I'd like to do is send them to you so you can review them. Our team reviewed them quickly on Friday, but we're going to continue to discuss it and when we do our board retreat, we'd like to also sit down and make sure that everything is clear on um what our next steps are, what our action plans are in order to get out of this high-risk area. Also, tomorrow we're going to an Auditor General USFR meeting by the Superintendent's office. It's going to be at the library cuz I guess they had a lot of people sign up um for that workshop. So Jenna
and I and Greg and Christie will be attending. So we'll come back with more information on that's for the Auditor General. So it's not on high-risk? It's not. It was just a general one I think because there's so many schools that are in similar situations that they decided to have a meeting for anyone who wanted to attend. So we all registered to attend. It'll be a good workshop. The video's from 1904 so hopefully we can with some more items that we can add or some more steps that we can add to our action plan. So we'll probably have a study session in a couple of months to review the action plan. But I think we have a really good start on it. Yes, and I'd like to So we just need to set We'll be
coordinating general strategy to reach out to the We'll try to reach you date for us to do some work maybe prior to school starting. And we're going to be meeting I'm going to be doing this summer as an admin team as well. How many more days left? I'm not counting the total. Nobody's counting? 28. Sorry, we counted in class today. Miss Eva has a countdown at her computer as well. Oh, is that really pivotal? Yes, it is. So may I ask the preschool promotion if I'm not mistaken? Oh, preschool promotion 18. We're not sure about that yet, but um And that'll be taking place That's correct. Oh, will it? Dr. Robinson, that'll be taking place in here. Yes, that is important. Oh, we're going to do it in here? Yes. Okay. Is it one or
two? I'm so sorry. One. Dr. Robinson. Okay. What time? 9:00. Is it just one promotion or is it two? It's just one. Okay. So it will be a combined graduation. So please >> Something? Thank you so much. Take care. Bye-bye. I think we were trying to turn my car off and then it stopped with the feedback. Hello. We used to we used to always just do it here. >> I don't know. I don't know what you mean. I don't think so. I don't think I can get it. Yeah. I just do it now. I don't want to fool you. I think this is it. I think I can do it. I think I can do it. I lost paper cut on my arm. I don't think so. The doctor told me I have a trouble
with my arm. And then I have to do it. But I didn't I think so. I don't think I can do it. I don't think I can do it. You need to sign this on that I will restart it now. Exactly. I don't think I can do it. I don't >> Now we are adjourned to 6:55 and 3.
