Welcome everybody to the December second governing board meeting. With that, uh, that's our call to order. With that, if everybody would join us for pledge of allegiance. >> Mrs. Emoris, will you lead us, please? I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisibley and justice for all >> Mrs. Amar here. Miss Lever here. Mr. McGidden >> here. >> Mr. Australia, >> I'm here. Thank you. Next is to um approve the agenda which is an action >> to approve the agenda. >> Seconded. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Amaras. >> Yes. >> Miss Lever. >> Yes. >> Mr. McID. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ashley. >> Yes. And next is to approve the excuse [clears throat] me the meetings from our last meeting

on November 4th. >> I move to approve the minutes for November 4th. Second, >> Miss Miss Lewis. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes. Miss Lever. >> Yes. >> Mr. McG. [clears throat] >> Yes. >> Mr. Austral. >> Yes. >> Okay. Next, we're move right into the superintendent report. And we've got a couple other small things then we'll get to you guys. [snorts] >> [clears throat] >> There's a few more seats here and there. So, I don't know if you want to pull into the back, >> but welcome. Good evening everyone. President O members of the board, all of our amazing Colts and family members. Thank you for being here today. Just a few items to report. As you see and you all know our mission Continental School District will provide a community environment in which all

individuals are challenged to achieve excellence in academics, character and life skills. So just a reminder this is um what we keep in mind every single day all day with our students to accomplish our vision and our vision is building for the future, learning, cooperating and caring. You all know that, right, boys and girls? >> All right. Okay. Um, again, we are um still super excited and celebrating our official A letter grade. Thanks to all of you students, your hard work, parents, and our staff. We are very excited that this is our um A rating for our second year in a row. So, you know, when you're at the top, it gets a little bit harder because we have to keep that momentum and keep showing progress. So, the challenge will continue every year for us.

Also, our Mrs. Squa spoke last two month about our A+ of excellence award site visit. So we are getting ready for that visit will be January 15th and 16th. There'll be focus groups that are going to be interviewed. It'll be certified teachers, classified staff, some parents will also be invited to participate and there'll be some student interviews as well. So again, it's different from the A letter grade because this is through um the Arizona Educational Foundation that does A+ awards every year. There's like two or three schools in the state of Arizona that receive this rating. So we're excited to be on the grid and to have them come see Continental because a lot of people don't even know that our school and our district exists. So they're going to be um very pleasantly surprised.

I know when they're here. So stay stu stay tuned for that because we are expecting to have a facility like the Hilton cleanliness and have things in order. So um we'll be ready for that visit. Also just enrollment update. We have 645 students right now and last year we ended at 652 students. Students continue to withdraw and register daily. It's [clears throat] like a sort of a five to eight student revolving door. Um we have three new students who will be starting with us in January and our lowest enrollment is still with first grade with 45 students and three teachers serving those students. So they have that's our smallest cohort of students. Everybody else is averaging anywhere from [clears throat] 21 to 23 students per class, which is a really good um ratio. Veterans Day

celebration. Thank you Builder Club for their annual planning and to celebrate and honor our veterans. Um did we have any parents who came to our Veterans Day celebration? Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Um our staff veterans include Mr. Schubert and Mrs. Stole along with many student family members. As you know, my son is in the Marines and so um a lot of my nephew is in the Air Force. So, we continue to thank all of our veterans and for their service. So, thank you, Mr. Schubert. World Kindness Day was a great big hit, right, boys and girls? >> Yes. Yes. So, um thank you to our fourth grade teachers and students. We um developed the kindness club. So, World Kindness Day activities included selling the be kind bracelets um that were made by students in

order to help with future be kind adventures. Um purchasing the kindness shirts. Um [clears throat] I believe Thursdays is going to be our kindness shirt day where we want students to wear their shirts on Thursdays. Um we do have some coming for board members as well. Um, and they were paid out of the character ed grant that we had through the Arizona Department of Education and through our um, tax credit character ed club that we've had from the past. um our entire student body formed the be kind as you see there with the drone and it thanks to um Liam McGibbon who um had the drone along with and thank you to Miss Jenna for setting all that up for us. So we will be looking at making thank you cards and our Christmas card

with that be kind that our students created also. We're super excited. There's just some additional pictures. And did you guys see in the Green Valley news the good press that we received based on it's good to see good news. And um I'd like to if you can just I'd like to read an editorial that came out on the news and it [clears throat] was be a kind human. What an enlightening and instructive way to start a weekend. When I glanced the front page of my Green Valley news and saw be a kind human on young people's t-shirts, I was eager to read the rest of the story. How proud we must all feel that our Continental Elementary School students, faculty, and staff celebrated World Kindness Day last Thursday to spread happiness and joy advocated then

initiated by members of the fourth grade be kind. In addition to read that all 670 students kindergarten through 8th grade designed the words be kind on the school's football field was also overwhelming. Superintendent Roxanna Rico, Principal Diana Quuevas, teachers and students are modeling a world of what could be if we take their message seriously. Their question states, "How can we be kind to each other?" I suggest each of us can ask ourselves that question, then answer it when we come in contact with others. As we begin the holiday season, this younger generation has a profound message for all of us on World Kindness Day. And every day, united, let us recognize we are all Earth's family. And though we live and pray and celebrate in different ways, we are leaned by a common dream, peace

on Earth. Continental School has reminded us to be kind. What a simple task. I believe all of us realize this generation of students offers us hope for the future. United in their acts of kindness. Let us heed their call immediately. And this was from Sharon Reac Anderson and she's part of the Arizona University Women's Club who have been super supporters of Continental. They helped pay for second grade Chromebooks two years ago. So, it's nice to know that we have a lot of community members who support us and are um excited about the good things that we're all doing together as a community staff and with your students. So, thank you. Greenhouse update. This will be another thing, another dream come true. We have water to the greenhouse and I don't know if you've noticed that

it's kind of dismantled. Um but we're putting together the building material list so that we can get that up and running. Our plan was to try to get it kicked off by the new year for January, but it might end up being like a Valentine's Day celebration um because we're working on really doing it right and getting it up and running. So stay tuned because we're going to have and need some help once it is ready to um start planting and getting that going. And that is also thankfully from a grant from uh Rotary Green Valley Rotary. um they did a matching grant for us. So we have about how much did we have in that account? >> Like $9,000 with just donations from different community members and from Rotary. So we're super excited about

that. Mark your calendars for the Sweetheart Gada February 7th. This is the main fundraiser for our foundation, our continental foundation, which gives back money to teachers for many grants for special things that they may be requesting in their um classroom. So, we're looking for sponsorships and we um your attendance, plan a date night, parents, uh we do have our jazz band there and our orchestra usually plays. So, um mark your calendars for that date at historic Canoa Ranch. Our sensory garden project continues and thank you to the leans for working and finishing the sensory part that we talked about. So you can see pictures there of the before. On the left you see the blank boards and now um there's items on there for students to use. And our um the other box [clears throat]

top or plastic lid I should say mural is also going to be sponsored by the foundation. So, I hope you're all still collecting the the caps for us because we're going to need them soon. Upcoming special events, Walden Grove Jazzband will be performing tomorrow on campus. And also, we have 75 students that we're going to be taking to the Nutcracker on Friday. We're taking one kindergarten class and we have the rest of the students have perfect attendance. So the kids who are here every day, we're celebrating them and taking them to see the Nutcracker. And our staff holiday celebration will be Thursday, December 18th from 1:30 to 3:30. Will be a plot for our board members to know as well. >> Okay, thank you and happy holidays. That concludes my presentation. Thank you. >> Thank

you. Is anybody really saving the caps? I started saving them about a month ago. I couldn't believe how many caps our family uses. Isn't that crazy? >> And they need like thousands. >> Yes. >> So, so with that, we just want to give appreciation to a couple families that have donated some computer equipment. Um, those letters have been sent out. And with that, uh, we'll do our special recognition part. And that will be first for the uh, Colts of the month. >> [clears throat] >> All right, welcome everyone and congratulations on behalf of all of our continental staff, your amazing cults. We are going to ask that all of our cults come forward with your certificates. Parents, please do not hesitate to report, take pictures, come forward if you need to. And also um if

you'd like to go to the table once they head that way to help them pick out a shirt size, please feel free to do that as well. At the conclusion of our cult of the month, we ask that you just remain seated so we can also celebrate two awards awards that we will be giving out to staff members. Perfect. Testing. Testing. >> Yeah. >> All right. When you come up, students, you will say your name and smile. If your parents are taking pictures, make sure you make eye contact with your family. and then you will step down and we'll start with Miss Rico when I'm not yet. I'm letting you all know and then I will read through what was written for you. Okay. All right. So, go ahead and say your name. >> My

You've shown so much growth recently. You should be proud because your hard work is paying off. Thank you, Kaden, for your hard work, your kindness, and the way that you treat everyone around you. Congratulations, Kaden. from the middle school teachers. You were nominated by all of the middle school teachers. [applause] I first started as superintendent. Kayen was five kindergarteners, right? And now they're eighth graders and they're just How does this happen? [laughter] CONGRATULATIONS. [applause] NOW, if we could have all of our cults of the months please come up and stand. We're going to take a picture of you and then we're going to present two awards to our staff members. >> [laughter] >> If you'd like to take pictures, you can. All right, students. We're gonna on

the count of three. We're gonna sing Colts Rock. Ready? One, two, three. >> Rock. Okay, stay standing. We have Golden Horseshoe Awards that we would like to present. These awards um are staff members who have been nominated by their colleagues. We would like to start with presenting the first golden portion award to Briana Komacho. [applause] Brianna is a programmatic assistant for our special education department in our school. And Brianna, your colleagues right, Brianna is a blessing to our classroom and school. Her guidance and support helps my classroom function. All the students adore her and she supports every one of them with exceptional care. The individual learners that Briana works with show remarkable growth every day due to her dedication. Thank you, Brianna, for always stepping in with a helping hand and a warm spirit. I

wouldn't be lost without your help and support. Miss Brianna is an amazing programmatic assistant and the kind of person who puts 100% into the students she works with. She provides one-on-one academic support, manages behaviors with dedication and kindness. She offers support to all students as needed, and makes an extra effort for those that are struggling. She works hard to build strong, trusting relationships with student, staff, and families, making every child feel valued and capable. Briana has demonstrated her dedication to students through navigating multiple students with diverse needs. She's complimented by teachers and peers about her growth as a programmatic assistant. Brianna's connection to her students is apparent in her daily interactions with them. Thank you, Brianna, for all that you do. [applause] I'd just like to add a few things. Bana has at times some

very challenging students with behaviors and she never ever once complains about it at all and she's willing to step up to any challenge and so you know what an example to all of our staff here and especially myself because sometimes I deal with challenging students too and you're just an example to me and all of us about how to do your job um with professionalism and that positivity and knowing what the end goal is for each and every child that you work with. So, thank you so much for your dedication. [applause] >> Next, we would ask for the fourth grade team who's been nominated to please come forward. [applause] And that's Mrs. employ house Mrs. Flowers. [laughter] >> The fourth grade team's dedication to kindness day is unmatched. They not only generated excitement for this

year, but also they've built an amazing program supporting all students. The fourth grade team continues to model for their students what kindness means. And in turn, the students are spreading kindness all around campus, making us all happy to be at work and encouraging all students prek through the importance of being kind. Thank you, fourth grade team, for all the time you've put into cultivating kindness around our school. It started with the kindness rocks we saw displayed outside a few years ago, then the be kind cups etched into the fence, and now be kind swag. We love it all. Thank you for the kindness tapped posters around campus encouraging us to pull off a tab and be kind, brightening one another's day. It has been great seeing the students take the lead and setting everything up

for us Colts to spread kindness. [snorts] Thank you for reminding us how important it is to treat one another and for making our school a better place for students and adults. [applause] >> [clears throat] >> I just want to say that this dynamic trio um they taught together as third grade and then we when we moved them to fourth grade they went together. So they do everything together. So they couldn't do just a single nomination. So it had to be a team effort. And I think it's just amazing when you have that synergy and that collaborative effort and that caring and the relationships amongst each other, the great things that you can do for each other and for students and truly making Continental a greater place to be with a team like them. So, thank

you so much. I [clears throat] really appreciate you. >> Thank you. [applause] >> What can I say about this team? Um it's it's more than just being kind. They show it every day in their classrooms. They show it to their children. They show their kids um that they matter each and every one of them every day. Um but more than that to the entire Continental team feels that from these three ladies and just the their willingness to be kind to everybody and lift them up even in the hardest of days. Um, one specific thing that seems silly and significant, but it just goes to what team players and how they try to do their best each and every day. We have a rule here that we can't use doors stops. Um, and over break, Mr.

Fergus and I had to come in and do a training video and I was trying to find a door stop so that we could show not what not to do. and we were filming in the fourth grade pod and they just follow every little tiny rule because they value your students and the rules not to have not have a doors stop is safety and although it's inconvenient, they understand that and they just follow the simplest things and support us as administration students. And so we're so lucky to have them and so they're amazing. If your kids are in preschool through third grade, you have a lot to look forward to when they get to that fourth grade team because these ladies are amazing and they will have a great time and learn a lot. So,

thank you. [applause] >> [laughter] >> Okay, ready. One, two, three. Cold rock. One, two, three. >> All right, good job. Thank you. [snorts] [applause] Well, with that, we'll take a a short break. If you guys want to stay and hear us talk about the budget and other fun things, you're more than welcome. I don't just your football team. [laughter] >> [laughter] >> Thank you so much. Good job. Have a good night. >> I appreciate you. for sure. >> So ready, we'll reconvene. It's on to the consent agenda. Any discussion about that before we motion? >> Anybody have a motion? [laughter] >> Mrs. Lewis. >> Yes. Mrs. Amar. >> Yes. Maver. >> Yes. >> Mr. McG. >> Yes. >> Mr. as related. >> Yes. That takes us right into item 10, new business. First is to

um approve a purchase order of 11,800 for the construction of a track shed. So, the track shed, as we all know, was uh in a state of disrepair, and we went ahead to start to make some repairs on that. And then some wind came by as we were making those repairs and kind of took what was left of the shed, put it all on the ground. So, we are in the process of we went out, we got some bids and Lansky Construction came in with the cheapest price. Um, now I will say this, there has been some price increases since his proposal. >> So, he doesn't know yet. I haven't received, but I wanted to be able to get this approved so that we can go ahead and get started on the track. Hopefully, this

is something that we can do over the winter break. Um, so I would ask you approve of the issuance of a purchase order for $11,800 plus any add-ons that may come. >> Is this something that could be since a wind took it insurance? >> No. >> May I add something, Greg, please? >> Sure. Go ahead. >> Um, I'm certainly no professional, but I would think that the if if and I say if there are any increases, it would be material cost increases and would be I don't know, minimal. I would say in my opinion under well under $1,000. >> That's that's kind of where I am at as well. I think the biggest increase in in materials is with concrete because we are going to be pouring a a slab that's going to go from

the shed down towards the track so that we can easier roll materials in and out of the shed. >> Is it going to be the same size? >> Yes. I don't know if we want to give a car maybe expenditure of up to $1,000 over something. >> I would agree with that. >> So would we amend the the motion? >> You you just make that your motion. Yeah. >> So, I'll move to approve the 11,800 for the new uh truck shed and with allowing for up to $1,000 of u increased cost. >> Second. >> Can I just add one more thing to that? So, the funding for this, it's coming out of our rental fees that we that we received. So there there's no budget impact towards any other funding. >> All right. Miss Lewis.

[clears throat] >> Yes. >> Mrs. Amarius. >> Yes. >> Miss. >> Yes. >> Mr. McGillan. >> Yes. >> Mr. Austral. >> Yes. And you've all heard about the policy services advisory 959 DJ, the bidding and purchasing procedure. So now it's time to actually approve that. >> I move to approve the >> Can I say PSA? >> Yes. >> Second. >> Mrs. Lewis. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Amar. >> Yes. Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. McGib. >> Yes. >> Mr. Austral. Yes. [clears throat] Believe it's Mr. Schubert's going to insight us on the Puma County Treasures overpayment of interest. Okay. So, the county treasur's office back to July of 2019 through September of 2021, [snorts] they allocated interest payments to all taxing districts prior to actually receiving that interest. So they they paid out the interest that

they had expected to receive but did not. >> So the treasur's office is going to be um over the course of the rest of the fiscal year reducing our interest payments. Not just us, it's every taxing district, you know. So that would be the fire department, the the community college district, every every taxing district within the county. So they're going to be reducing our interest payments to make up for what they have overpaid us. So when when you're looking at roughly $1.6 million that they had paid out over the course of that of 2019 to 2021. Um for for Continental, our portion of that $1.6 million is roughly $3,200. So if you want a kind of a reference point for that, last year in interest payments we received about 163,000. So that's going to be,

you know, we want $466 a month less interest that we would be receiving over the remainder of the fiscal year. >> Say that again. would be receiving roughly $466 less in interest over the remainder of the course of the fiscal year. >> So we get interest on the money they house for us since we has to go through them. >> Correct. How's that rate determined? >> So they determined that our portion was.2039% savings account. So that's and that's where I came up with the figures for how much it is over the course of the over the course of the remainder of this year. >> Anybody has a question that we will move on to since you're on the district financial report. >> All right. I could give you the quick and easy version. Money comes

in, money goes out. We're doing good. >> Good. Okay. So, Miss Jenna, if you'd scroll down, >> as you can see, everything is still where it's supposed to be. Everything is in the black. [clears throat] We still have that $21,000 that we haven't put from food service yet because we're still waiting on the feds to go ahead and actually make those payments. Speaking of budgeting, we are do a budget revision by December 15th. I have been working with AD to to update our our budgeting numbers. Um the original estimate that they came back with at the end of October was that we had that over budgeted by $440,000 in M and $160,000 in capital. After working with them and pointing out some things that I believe that they made mistakes on, it was down to

$97,000 in M and $87,000 in capital. I've got one more piece that I'm trying to get them to fix. Um, so we may ask for a special board meeting um, prior to the 15th to approve that [clears throat] revision. I could have brought you something tonight, but I'd rather have it done right the first time instead of do it now and then show up again a couple weeks later with another one. >> And that concludes my my report. That's beautiful. >> Yeah. >> And if you like I can go back to the first way that I did that. So for future meetings. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> So we will not we may we will be meeting to have a special board meeting or to approve the budget that's due December 15th. So, we're looking at

possibly >> [clears throat] >> um >> Monday the 8th. Um if not, but it would be just a one item [cough] next Monday [clears throat] hopefully. If not, it'll be later in the week depending on the response, but we could do a it could be a virtual meeting. And then you see there's lots of uh >> move to approve the district financial report as of 1120. >> I'll second it. >> Mr. Lewis. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Miss. >> Yes. >> Mr. McGin. >> Yes. >> Mr. Australia. >> Yes.
