001Thank you. Welcome everybody to our board meeting. That we always start with we'll do our call to order and then we'll do the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you everybody for attending. It's nice to see it pretty much full house. >> So with that, we will have our roll call. Miss here, Mrs. here. Mr. McIn, >> Mr. Austin. >> And next is the uh approval of um Oh, >> oh, I'm sorry. So, we lost our clerk with Kelly Young. Um, so I'm looking for a nomination for a new clerk. >> I'll make a motion as our new clerk. I second. >> Miss Lever,
002>> yes. >> Mrs. Andreas, >> yes. Mr. McG, >> yes. >> Mr. Oscar, >> yes. Congratulations, Mr. Cler. >> Thank you. >> I think you've been before. So, >> so now we're on. >> So, now we'll go on to approving the agenda. So, we need to have a motion to approve or discuss. >> I move to approve the agenda. >> So, I would first like to make a an an item to move the um call to the public to item right before item number 12. I'm sorry. Right after item 12, which is new businesscomes item 12. I'm sorry. Make item 12 after 11 >> right after new business. >> So you just got to say I motion that we approve. >> Okay. I motion that we approve the change. I'll second it. >> Miss Lever.
003>> Yes. Mr. Yes. >> Mr. McIn. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ash. Okay. Thank you very much. and approve last meeting's uh minutes from August 12th. >> I move to approve the minutes uh August 12th >> and it's actually and July 31st. Today the 12th wear. Okay. I move to approve the governing board meetings >> July 8th and the 31st. >> Yes. Thank you. Second, >> Miss Lever. >> Yes. Mrs. Ambas. >> Yes. Mr. McInness. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ostra. >> Yes. >> Thank you. So, next is a superintendent report. Then we have two little short things and you guys are up. >> You'll like this one. >> Good evening, President Austria, members of the board, members of our community, our amazing students and and families. Thank you for being here today. Um, as you know,
004our theme for the year is back to the future. So, we are celebrating our successes and planning for the future success. So, we really um appreciate you being here today. I'd like to welcome our newly appointed governing board member. Welcome, Miss Michelle Lewis. She is here. You may have seen um the press release in the Green Valley News and um Miss Lewis is thanking us for the opportunity to serve our community in the Continental School District and she believes that as a citizen she's obligated to provide the best education possible to our children to prepare them for the future. So we welcome you. Um she will be sworn in next Monday the 18th at the Pima County Superintendent Office and she will serve her first board meeting on September 9th and she's here to observe
005and just learn and see how things go at our school. So welcome. Thank you. >> Enrollment update. We have a total of 680 students, 33 preschool. We ended the school year with 652 students in K8. So, we're up by 28 students and when you look at the revenue, it's about 8,500 per student is what we get. So, um these students is bringing approximately $238,000 to the school. But, um pre kinder students only count as half a student. So, it's a little bit less than that. And not all our preschool students count in the revenue that we generate. But we have been working really hard on our open enrollment and getting the word out that we were accepting new students. So um we are excited. We have 97 students on open enrollment. We have 42 staff
006students and of those 42 11 are on open enrollment. So we have a lot of staff members who live in the district whose kids attend the district and we have a total of 49 new first through 8th grade students. So, we have a meeting after Labor Day with all the new students to check in, see how they're doing, um, make sure they're making friends, um, asking them about their workload, and just to make sure that they're getting acclimated acclimated to our continental way. Again, I shared at our last meeting, um, our AD letter grade, our preliminary data. So, you can see that total earned points is 94.22. And when you look at the A, it requires 100 to 84 points. So I put there in 2023 we were be earning 75.56 points. In 2024 we
007earned 88.64 points and this past year we have 94.22 points which will get us the A. So we are very excited and very proud of our students. uh we received all 50 points when you look at the pie on growth and we've really been focused on our students moving from minimally proficient to partially proficient to proficiency. So we are thrilled with that. Our proficiency, which is the 30 points, are once the students reach proficiency, we have to work to keep them proficient, right? And when you're at the top, it's harder to stay at the top, but we are so very proud of our teachers and our students and our parents for all of their hard work and just making sure our kids get to school. A lot of districts have trouble with attendance and we
008are we always get our attendance points because we have 94% or more attendance. We are happy about that. Our English language learners are progressing at the appropriate rate and becoming proficient. Our special needs students are meeting the goals. So everybody in the school counts and is vital to the progress of our school. So we are just super proud. So, thank you. Technology update. 614 student devices were distributed and configured to the students by the second day of school. So, we want to thank Mrs. Sto and Mrs. Nathan for their system. It's a wild welloiled machine and to give out that many Chromebooks in two days is amazing. So, thank you. Project updates. The roofing and weatherization project will be up for award by the SFB at their September meeting. So, we still have our general
009contractor lined up and they're aware that we may have to do a change order since it took us so long to get this approved, but we are excited that we got the word to move forward. The new HVAC unit for the east side classrooms at the middle school should be having the final architectural stamp this week as well. So, we're hoping to get these projects done. Okay. Upcoming grant submissions, donations, and conferences. So, the Supreme Court mini grants are due September 5th. So, we have four yearly submissions. So, um typically our preschool will submit for one. We did some for field trips last year for our gifted students. So, we're going to be looking at doing the same um for the students. And Mrs. Webas is going to write when to get the shade structure
010the lot up in the middle school um reading garden area that we worked on last summer. Um the Freeport site investment grant is due November 10th and we're looking at getting our AVIC membership and our leader in need memberships covered um through Freeport so we can continue those two programs because the three years um are up in leader in need donations. So uh Mrs. Webas and I were on Kol News3 um on their back to school feature on August 5th where we talked about the greenhouse and we received a call from a gal in our community that her friend left money for schools. So we talked to her today. So she wants to contribute to the greenhouse project and other things that we may need. So she's very excited. She'll be visiting our school um
011next week sometime. Burlington. Um we also were notified that they are opening up here in in Green Valley. So they are going to be giving a 5,000 um dollar donation to our school as well. Uh Green Valley Rotary just received a matching grant with Rotary International for the greenhouse for additional $6,000. So, we just are super excited for all of our community help that we have in making these programs come to fruition for our students. Upcoming conferences, IDA conference, grants management conference, AVID pathways, we're sending some middle school teachers and um and leadership team members to AVID pathways of teachers who haven't been pay um trained through AVID yet. And we have the ASDA law conference coming up that Mr. also being our new board member, Michelle, will be attending as well. So, thank you.
012And if you remember, the future's not written yet, so we will make it a good one. Doc always said, "Your future is whatever you make it, so make it awesome." And we really are off to a great start and looking forward to an awesome school year this year. So, thank you for all of your support and help. Great. >> Thank you. That was awesome. Next is our admin report and then you guys grab us. >> Good evening everybody. Welcome to the 2526 school year. And like we just discussed our theme for the school year is back to the future. Honoring our past and uniting our future. Just I just have a few slides to go over how we've already started this school year the past three weeks. We had our staff pre-ervice July 20th to
013August 1st. There are many trainings and professional developments. who went over leader in lead training which is our character building program teacher created resources training which is our science and social studies extensions for our elementary and middle school benchmark advance where teachers got trained and got refreshers on our English language arts reading and writing program math and DMS training which is daily math skills so we were getting all these refreshers getting ready for the school year uh English learner training by Mrs. Zbo who is our English learner coordinator for students who are from that are learning English. School safety training as safety is very important here on our campus and online mandatory safe schools vector trainings by all of our staff is currently being done. Then we had our continental meet and greet. We hope
014many of you that were able to make it out were able to celebrate the start of the school year, get to meet your teachers, get to take pictures with the Delorean, that PTC was able to get out here from a car club up in Phoenix area. It was a really great night and it was great to see you all back. The summer went very quickly and we're really happy and proud of our students with um how they started the school year. So last week we had our boooo breakfast for our kindergarten students and our students that are new to our campus. We call it the boo booing because you're sad that your kiddos are coming to school or booooing that you finally get some free time um to yourselves. But it was a great event.
015It was the biggest Boohoo breakfast event we've had in years. It was probably almost over a hundred people that attended. 100 parents and grandparents, uncles and aunts. So, we were really excited to get to meet many of our new families and got off to a great start. The first week of school, it felt like it was just the weekend and we came back. Um, in regards to how everybody just jumped right back into routines and procedures across our campus. It was such a smooth start to the school year and we very proud of all of our students. our kindergarten students and our new preschoolers jumped right into routines, learning, being open-minded, and um we're so proud of them. We had PBIS rotations, which is positive behavior intervention supports for some of our alumni students. I
016see quite a few of you in here that are now in high school. You remember those annual rotations? It's where we go to different areas of the campus. Our students and their classes rotate around and they discuss how to be kind, safe, and reliable, responsible all around our campus, whether it's in the gym for assemblies, outside, on the playgrounds, in various play areas, on the buses. They did great on that. And like Superintendent April mentioned, student laptop laptop dispersement was also done and completed. And then just around the corner, we have a lot of events that are coming up. Please be sure to read the weekly family news that goes out. You usually get every Friday a text message with the link to the family news and these events are on there. Just wanted to
017point out middle school open house is from 5 to 6:00 p.m. That's on August 20th and we do that every like 5 to 6 minutes. We do a rotation where we tell you rotate down next to first period, your child second period and so on. And then August 27th is the elementary open house. We also have Elementary honors assemblies, all family is welcome. That is August 29th for elementary at from 1 to 2. And for middle school from 2:10 to 3 and that is in the gym. So that thank you. >> Thank you. Next is our district appreciation where we've got some nice thank you letters. >> Yes. And those are just for the governing board to see the attachments of our donors that are have donated items for us. So thank you. >> That
018now is time for the cult of the months. >> So if we can have our cult of the months, please line up. We'll help you line up starting preschool all the way through middle school and we will call you up one at a time. Make sure you bring your certificates with you. Parents, you are free to come up, take pictures, take video. Don't be shy. Also, you'll head to the table back there if you would like to head back there with your child to pick out their size t-shirt. And if there's a t-shirt size that's not available, please make sure you give us back there your name, your child's name, and their t-shirt size because we are getting new t-shirt orders coming in. And while we get the kiddos ready, we'd like to thank Java
019who also sponsors Colonel. [Music] All right, we're gonna start with Remy Meyer. We are so proud to recognize Remy as our cult of the month. And these are cult of the months that were nominated in May, so we're honoring them tonight. Remy has shown tremendous growth in both confidence and participation. He continues to impress us with his respectful attitude, responsible choices, and kind heart. It's been a joy to see his progress, and we are excited to watch Remy continue to shine and grow from Dr. Robinson Free School. Congratulations, Miss Willox's wrote about Jonah. Jonah always has a huge bright smile. He is an amazing friend and student. Jonah has worked very hard this year to learn the school and classroom rules and follow them. He now has taken this a step further and reminds others
020to do the same. Jonah, you will always have a very special place in my heart. Thank you for working so hard to be a kind, safe, and responsible cult. Miss Lil Cox, congratulations. Juliana is a fabulous first grade student. She is kind and friendly with everyone around her, especially in class. She smiles a lot and she's always ready to help others. Juliana uses supplies and school equipment safely. She's responsible every day because she's very respectful and she works very hard to complete all her work. Juliana has a terrific attitude towards learning in school. We are so glad to have her in our class. Keep up the fabulous work, Juliana. Mrs. Rodriguez, congratulations. [Music] Elliott is kind to everyone and always respectful. He follows rules and helps create a safe, calm classroom. He is very responsible.
021He works hard, completes all his assignments, and has shown amazing growth this year. Congratulations, Elliot. Miss Janette [Applause] My name is Elise. Allesandre, thank you for showing your peers what a cult is all about. Congratulations, Miss House. >>
022Evan Chavez. I'm excited to recognize Evan as my May cult of the month. There is something truly special about Evan. The kids in my class are always saying, "Evan has aura." And they are right. He has an aura that naturally draws people in. Whether it's through a kind smile, calm presence, or thoughtful words, Evan brings a sense of warmth and positivity wherever he goes. Teachers and classmates notice the way he quietly leads by example. showing respect, empathy, and a strong sense of self. Evan also demonstrated remarkable academic growth, putting in the effort to improve and succeed. I'm going to miss this kid so much, but I'm looking forward to watching him continue to be the amazing person he is. Well done, Evan. Keep shiny. Love, Mrs. Flowers. Congratulations, [Applause] [Music] Haley, thanks for always being
023a great Colt and showing up ready to work. If your peers are ever struggling, they know they can count on you to help. You are always at school with such a positive attitude. Even when things don't work out the way we hope, you keep that smile on your face and keep going. Thank you for being such an amazing person and being that example of a kind, safe, and responsible cult. Congratulations, Mrs. Montoya. [Music] Adalie is an extremely responsible little girl. She's always ready to start the day in class and prepared with her assignments. Adalie is a kind friend to everyone around her in and outside the classroom. She makes it a point to show everyone kindness. Congratulations, Adalie and Miss Wave. [Applause] This is Bella. We are proud to recognize Isabella as our sixth grade
024student of the month. She's in seventh grade now. The middle school team chose her for consistently showing kindness, making safe choices, and taking responsibility in everything she does. Whether she's helping a classmate, following expectations, or leading by example, she brings a positive energy that uplifts those around her. Her thoughtful actions and steady reliability have made a lasting impact on our school community. Congratulations, Isabella. You truly represent what it means to be kind, safe, and responsible. From the middle school teachers, congratulations. Dexter. >> I have had the privilege of having Dexter in my elective course and my DMS class throughout the year. Dexter is one of the most respectful students I have met this year. He always greets his teachers with a smile and a good morning. He's also kind to his classmates. I have witnessed
025him offering to help his peers on multiple occasions and have never heard him speak unkindly. Dexter is incredibly well- behaved and responsible and sets an amazing example for his peers. He is a delight to teach and truly brightens the room with his personality. I'm looking forward to having him in science next year. Congratulations, Dexter. If we could have all the cults of the month stand up here for a picture with their certificate and parents can take pictures of them as well. Take a big picture. Ready [Music] everybody? Look over here. Say >> y Good job. All right, we'll take a short break. If you guys want to uh stay around or stay, on your wall. [Music] running. All right, with that we'll move on to the consent agenda which is a motion item. Is there
026any discussion before Make a motion to >> approve consent agenda. >> Miss 11. So that is new business. The new after school clubs should be >> It usually doesn't work that way. Who's going to be Can we talk about it or we have to >> We changed that number. >> Okay. So, creative writing, what's what are they going to be doing in that class? I mean, yeah, creative writing, but like are they going to learn cursive or what? It's separate from the cursive club and Mrs. Romanelli is going to be the club sponsor for creative writing. So, we are looking at having kids write and publish books that will be available. We're looking at having them possibly um do articles and polls that'll go into the weekly news and um they're going to be working
027with our literacy committee in terms of that. So, we're just excited. We also talked um today, as a matter of fact, about um there's school districts that have stories that soar where people can where they act out the stories that the kids have written. So, we're going to look at doing our drama club, maybe acting out some of the creative writing stories that the kids are writing, and then they can kind of try to guess and see which one is their story. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> So, this is from uh first grade through 8. The goal is to foster a love for writing in our school and improve writing skills at every level according to students needs. And then looks like Lori's gonna reach out to some Green Valley groups and then she's also
028doing the cursive club, too. >> That's awesome. >> Now it's motion time. >> I move to approve the new after school club. >> Second, >> Miss Lever. Yes. Mrs. Amar. Yes. Mr. McGin. Yes. Mr. Austra. >> Yes. And coaches and club substitutes. I'll move to approve the substitution. >> I'll second Miss Liver. >> Yes. Mrs. Amarius. Yes. Mr. McGin. Yes. >> Mr. Ostros. >> Yes. Moving right along. New parapros. >> So again, just due to the increase in our special education enrollment, um Mrs. Suarez is recommending approval for a new pair of professional to help out with the case loans right now in students and we are expecting a few more that are going to be coming. So we're trying to be proactive as well. >> Remind me how many we have in special education.
029>> We are getting close to 100. We're up in the 90s. So >> and that includes kids with IEDs. >> 504s. Yes. Yes. How many how many um pair of clothes do you have right now that would especially that that help with that? >> We have 12 on staff, one will be approved tonight recommended for hire and with the additional position we would have 14 total. Um and that would help cover all the needs that we have and like superintendent said we we are experiencing >> Mr. Can you please come to the please microphone because it's hard to hear. >> Thank you. Sorry. >> I will put you on the TV. >> I'm good. We're good. >> So, we currently have 12 on staff. We one will be recommended for hire tonight. That'll make 13.
030With the new position, we would be at 14 programmatic assistants to support students with IEPs. um we are experiencing um a much more diverse in like group of students in coming with just diverse needs that weren't here necessarily even just a couple years ago. So we're navigating what that looks like. >> I move to approval position. >> Miss Lever. >> Yes. Mrs. Amarz. >> Yes. >> Mr. McGin. Yes. >> Mr. Australico is going to cover all these new policies and read them back to back. >> You can see all my tabs here >> um on the policies and overall uh ASD is really working at eliminating the fluff and a lot of the examples where they're the policy is there but it they're leaving it to the discretion of the governing board and the superintendent.
031So they've uh taken out a lot of the specifics of teachers will do this, student, you know, parents will do this, staff will do this. So they're um simplifying them and again based on feedback from other superintendent and the committee that works with ASBA. So the language is cleaned up. Um some of the policies were completely removed on the educational philosophy and school district's mission because they were redundant. So you'll see that some of those were done. Uh the evaluation of the superintendent. So um they they have two that are options. One was one that was used several years ago that had the the outstanding satisfactory needs improvement unsatisfactory one. The other one is the one that we are currently using that was adopted by ASBA. So they changed that policy to say that governing
032boards could choose one or the other. So we're um in compliance, but they're all just updated policies. Nothing new that we need to worry about. Okay. I have a motion that we uh approve the second reading. >> All second. Miss Lever. >> Yes. Miss Amarius. Yes. Mr. McIn. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ash. >> Yes. >> And but wait, there's more second rules >> and those are the same. >> Okay. I'll motion again that we approve. And I'll >> seconded it. Miss Lever. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mrs. Amarz. >> Yes. >> Mr. Reven. Yes. >> Mr. Ost. >> Yes. And time for update on the solar panels. Mr. Gray. >> Is it good news? I hope >> it it's goodish news. >> So, I'm going to have Miss Jenna go ahead. She's going to pull up
033the executed copy. Well, that's going to come up, too. Pull up the executed copy. I'm going have you scroll on down to I think it's like page 14. All right, keep going. There's a little bit more room. Get that system purchase section up. So, back when we signed our original contract 15 years ago with the with the solar people, um the agreement was that we would purchase it that we have the opportunity at purchasing it back at the fair market value of the system. Um, at the time they were estimating the fair market value of the system to be roughly $2.4 4 billion. So, this is where the good part comes in. It's nowhere near that. >> Okay. >> And they were allowing us um five years at 20% each year to pay that back.
034So, that was the original agreement. So if you go to the second amendment in in this amendment that we had with it, everything that they had in that entire section, scroll on down, is gone. Oh, too far. Too far. Just a little bit more right there. So they deleted the entire section when it comes to purchasing and added in this whole new section. Um, basically it's this exact same thing with the exception of we don't have five years to pay it for it back and that we would still purchase it at the fair market value of the of the entire system. So now if you'll open up that third attachment. So we did get an appraisal done and the appraisal came back. Yep. Scroll down. $121,000. So big difference from the 2.4 that they thought
035it would be 15 years ago. >> So is that just the panels? >> That is for the entirety of the system. the entirety of the system, >> including the metal structure, >> the ballards, everything, the the >> the fencing around the generating station, the the entirety of it. Um, so last year we paid Clearway, who is who we paid for the solar electricity. We paid them a total of $141,691 for electricity generated by the solar panels. We paid for that um that the rate for that was 3217 cents per kilowatt hour. We also pay trio for our electricity. So the electricity that's not created by the solar panels, we pay trio. Uh we paid Triricco $108,520 last year for the electricity that they provided us. >> Tell me again the number. >> 108,520. Um our
036kilowatt per hour um cost with Trio is.1536 cents per kilowatt hour. So half the cost of the solar but with the solar we have a energy savings guarantee. So, while we paid Clearway $141,691, they paid us $81,219 based off of the um the savings that we did not realize from the solar system. So, all in all, we ended up paying $60,472 for the solar generated by the panels last year, which is you know 60% of what we paid trio I say all that because we have an option before us >> before you go to that >> okay >> if we didn't have it how much would we be paying tri >> so we generate or we didn't have it at all >> so we use 125,000 kilowatt hours per month multiply that out by the
0371536. That would give you a rough estimate as to >> 125,000 >> 1536 >> 19,000 >> up by zero,00. >> Yeah. 192,000 roughly >> 15 times.1536 >> times what >> times 12 times 120,000 then times that by 12 what we had over the course of year. So that was a month >> about 1,900 bucks times 12 >> roughly >> 192 * 12 230,000 >> 192. >> So we'd be paying if we did not have solar roughly $230. >> Roughly 230 >> and our net after the dust is settled is what? >> Um right now we're spending 168. >> Okay. So that's a decent saving. Yeah. >> So when at what time of the day does trio kick in? Is it peak power or >> peak power? >> So early afternoon is it a one or
038is it a six o'clock or is it a two? I can't remember. Is it two or six? >> I think it is. I looked at the the statement this afternoon. I believe it was like 1 to six. So, so by the time the first person that turns on a light here in the morning, so roughly 1:00 is solar solar more or less, right? >> So, >> we're basically using half and half. >> Oh, yeah. So, >> but we're getting charged at the their peak hours because that's when that's going to kick in. they'll be using more electricity from 7ish to 1 and one to closing. >> So, it depends on the season >> with the AC. >> If we are in if we're talking during the spring and summer, we're not using as much AC
039as first thing in the morning. If we're talking fall and winter, we're using a lot more because we need to get those warm those classrooms warm back up. >> Okay. So in my limited use of solar panels in my business, I think 15 years is approaching I mean I think it's on the downhill slope in terms of longevity. >> I mean I get 10 to 12 and I throw them away. I don't throw I mean you know they're done and they start to lose efficiency. Now these panels have been here since day one. So who knows what they're I don't know. So is that 121,000? I guess the question is is are we getting another another year, five years, who knows? >> So >> we have an option before us of extending our time with
040Clearway for another five years and within those five years, we would also have the guarantee. So they would still guarantee a savings. If we don't meet that savings, they would pay us that savings. >> So we'd stay pretty much same. >> So we would stay status quo. >> What would be our purchase out at five years? >> Whatever the market value is at it because you know the value of that system is going to go down over five years and I don't know if in five years if it's worth keeping. >> So the only value by then it is structured. It's there. The panels themselves and probably even the converter are ancient. >> Mhm. >> And solar. Well, in any technology, 15 years is a long time. >> Well, what did the appraisers say about
041the panels? Like, >> is there a percentage of it? That's >> Yeah, I'm giving you the report that that we received. They appraised it from Colorado. So, it wasn't like he came down and >> How many panels are there? Do you know? there that that 400 watt a 400 watt panel that size right now is $121. I just bought some >> small up. >> So I know they're probably cheaper if you buy that. But >> just gives you a rough idea what it cost to do it tomorrow >> for the panels themselves. But >> well 15 years ago this system cost $16 million. >> Well that'll take away. >> Did we pay that? >> No. No, because they were reimbursing us for the savings that we were not receiving. So, >> and it was some
042we were one of the first schools, public schools. >> There there was back when these were installed, there was a a program where the solar companies would come in and just put in your solar for and charge off onto the state. The state would take care of all it and we reap the benefits of solar power. So, our options would be to pay $121,000 to own it, or if we decided not to do that, they would come and remove everything and then we would have to find another company to decide to contract with to install solar. >> Or there's two other options. Stay where we are for five more years, >> keep the same benefits whether or not they're producing or not. We have a guarantee. >> And the other one is negotiate with them
043to upgrade, right? I'm sure they would love to do that. I'm surprised they didn't give you a quote. I would have if I was them >> or did they? >> No, that that wasn't even brought up. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> I in my personal opinion, I think there's more value in the potential shade as keeping the infrastructure. >> If the panels were to go away, I see tremendous value in trying to convert it to a shade structure of some sort in the future, not tomorrow. >> Right. >> I know we don't have the money now. I get that and it's probably not money we'll spend immediately. >> So five years might be a better >> five years. >> So but also remember this. So if we did spend the $121,000 to purchase it, that's
044it's $60,000 more than what we're going to pay in electrical costs after they give us our rebate check. >> That makes any sense. But then it becomes our liability from then from here on out becomes our issue. >> Yes. >> And we can't >> we're responsible for all repairs and everything. Just like what was it the week before school started one of the panels got loose and was sliding down to where we had this real big winch just before school started and was loose and it was almost flying out into the uh the parking lot area. We had ended up roping it all off until they came out and repaired it. So they're still around. >> Yeah. >> Not just in Colorado. >> So this was the guy that did the appraisal from Colorado. >>
045Oh. So this isn't an action decision. This is a >> discussion on >> this is a discussion and and trying to give you guys the information. >> Well, the reality is we don't have the money to do it today anyway. I mean that's short, right? >> What's our deadline on that? >> Yeah. >> So we have to work we are 90 days. We have to do something 90 days prior to the 15year anniversary which is in December. >> We're close. >> So only thing I would add is ask them maybe there are some sweetheart deals out there from the state if I doubt it but you never know. U what if we replaced them all with the new stuff? What would that look like? Maybe they're that much more efficient and it but I don't
046know. >> I do find it odd though that they didn't put that on there. >> That's really kind of >> because to build that infrastructure for it >> then. Well, that would cost a fortune. Yeah. >> To do just just the skeleton. >> They're probably afraid to because they didn't get the anticipated savings that they >> they didn't make the money they wanted. >> Right. Right. And they have already paid us quite a bit of money over the course of this this contract. >> You could ask them that. >> Ask me if they have a Well, well, you said it would be a the payout would at the end of five years would just be another appraised payout. >> Yeah. >> But I'm going to bet a dollar and a bottle of water that that
047electronics inside that cage would be completely totally obsolete five years. If it wasn't five years ago. >> Yeah. >> Right. I would not take that >> bath. [Laughter] Anything else? >> Good questions. We'll bring back >> find that out. >> I'm surprised they didn't give it to you because they're usually very pushy upgrade or five years. I I don't think Clear Way is in the business of building solar. They're just in the in the business of managing them. >> Okay, with that, let's go. We had to make a slight revision to the calendar. >> And that was just to align our spring parent conferences with Sarita school calendar since rodeo day changed. Kind of messed up the calendar. So now this will be the last change that we have to make. >> So thanks Jeff.
048>> Sure. All right. That's a motion item. >> I'll make a motion to revise 2526 school. >> I'll second. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Andre. Yes. M. >> Yes. >> Mr. Ash. >> Yes. >> And we're going to change a couple of our governing board meeting dates. for various long reasons. You can see the dates there. Take take uh October 14th, move it up to the 14th and November 18th to the 4th. 21 14th and 18th. >> Yes. >> Part of that's because of fall break and some other >> motion. That's a motion. >> I'll make a motion to revise the governing board meeting dates. I'll second >> Miss Lever. >> Yes. >> Mr. Dre. >> Yes. >> Mr. McG. >> Yes. >> Mr. Australia. >> Yes. And it looks like Craig needs to get rid
049of a couple buses. So this >> two years ago you guys we brought before you the the buses to go ahead and auction and we auctioned off half of them and you wanted us to hold off on the other two which we have. So we still have your approvals to auction those but it is time for those ones to go as well. I'm bringing before you tonight a couple more buses. Um bus two, it's got some electrical issues with it. >> Is that right here? The first one. What's the one you just passed that's parked up >> facing this way? >> Two. I I think these are both now over by the bus bar. >> Um, so bus two has electrical issues with because the lights have mis chewed through the wiring. >> So, it's
050got electrical issues all throughout. Bus six is one of the buses that blew the engine. >> And just the the the amount of repairs that are needed for both of these is not it exceeds the value of the bus. Okay. >> So, I bring this before you tonight for your approvals for us to go ahead and get those on public auction and hopefully sign sign someone who wants a bus. >> I'll make a motion to to approve the disposal of bus two and bus six, right? Six. Yes, >> I'll second. Sorry, >> but I have a question >> discussion. >> So, our bus fleet is still good. >> Yes. >> Without the >> Yes. >> And we still It's next year we finish paying off the >> next year we finish paying off the link.
051>> So, sometimes it's the reason why I ask is sometimes even though you're putting more money into its worth, it's still cheaper than buying new. I've done that with cards and it kills. [Music] >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yes. And we have taken anything useful off of these buses to like I believe it was bus six actually had fairly new towers so we took took those off and replace ones. >> If you would just let us know how much you got from just >> Yeah. >> Fine. Okay. Thank you. >> What did we get last? We did somewhere to >> 5 to 8 Costa Rica or something. Um, no. It was >> somewhere >> Nicaragua. Yes. >> You come up to Nicaragua to get him. >> Yeah. >> I'll call him. >> Yeah. >> When
052So, when would that happen? If this goes to >> um I'd have to go and get some good pictures, you know, get, you know, pictures of the engines of both, you know, just showing the the conditions that they're in and getting them up. Once they go up, they'll be there for two weeks. Okay, >> Miss Lever. >> Yes, Mrs. Maria. Yes, Mr. Mr. Australia. Yes, thank you. >> Can I can I go back to the governing board meeting? Um, we're going to have we're moving the November 18th to November 4th election. We're not a We're not a polling location. >> We should be okay. Everybody will have to vote pretty early before the board meeting. >> Yeah. Looks like your turn still. [Music] It's possible. >> I don't know which you guys move it to
053>> to 124 12. >> I did it before 12. >> Okay. With that, since we move the uh call to the public, um Holly Walcott, you have two minutes and I'm obligated to read the bottom part of the slip that you filled out. Personal attacks on board members, staff, and other persons in attendance or absent by individuals who address the board are discouraged. Presenters are cautioned that statements or representations concerning others that convey an unjustly unfavorable impression may be subject to the presenter to civil action or court defamation. So, you got your two minutes and just we don't uh it's not interactive. It's just two minutes. All right. Hello. My name is Holly Walcott. I have had students, my children here at Continental for the past 15 years. For most of that time, I volunteered
054here, giving endlessly of my time, money, materials, energy, talents, etc. to this school. This past June, I received an email from our superintendent which states, quote, "In response to your email inquiry of a bus driver contract and asking to be interviewed for teaching positions, it has been determined that due to a pattern of unprofessional behavior, you are not a good fit for our school and will not be offered a position." unquote. I have not been shown any evidence or was I written up this past year for anything. I haven't signed anything that states me being unprofessional. Since there is a claim of a pattern and I haven't heard anything in response to my reply, I'm here now to address the board and the public to ask about my pattern. I want to know exactly what
055is defined as at this school as unprofessional. The only thing I have done is answer people's questions honestly. And if those who are upset by my answers, they should be working on themselves and not attacking me because I know the truth. Everything I do share with others I witnessed firsthand or I was told directly by individuals involved. I have so much more I could say, but due to time I must end. But first, if you have issues with me, communicate with me. Don't retaliate against my children. Second, put the students above yourselves. And last is a suggestion to everyone else. Arizona is a single consent state. Record all of your conversations with members of the admin. Protect yourself because they will turn on you if it suits their self-interest. Thank you. I hope our students
056have a wonderful year. >> Thank you. >> Now, there's the district financial. >> All righty. So, as this is the August board meeting, you get to see the financials from July. And I don't know if you've remembered this from years in the past. You know, the July financials are not rolled over from the previous fiscal year yet because we haven't closed that out. that fiscal year does not technically close out until the end of September. So once that rolls over, you know, we will start to see more um information about what the actual cash is and in certain um categories and things like that. One thing that is accurate on here though is the budget versus uh the balance area. So that that bottom half of the page. Um, as you can see right now,
057we still have roughly $1.69 million in comfort. So, we've got that to go through the the remainder of the year. And also remember that we are still waiting on our December um revisions to see if we need to revise our budgets or anything. And really there's not there's not much else to report with the with the January with the July figures, but I would be more than happy to answer any questions that any of you may have. >> Last year we um um what was our number of students last year? Oh yeah. >> In the 10 or the registruded. >> Yeah, we budgeted for >> we budget of Okay, so on our for our budget last year, we budgeted on an ADM of 607. >> So what are we going to what are you thinking
058to this year? >> This year we're at 617 >> even though we have 680 students. >> Yes. I thought we wanted. >> So, so think about it like this. Every 44 days, the student calendar kind of kicks over. If a student comes in after 45 days, that's not a whole student. It's a 75 student. 44 days later, that student is now a half a student. So, we're only going to get funding for TAPO that >> those are new ones that come in. >> Yes. But we we eb and flow throughout the year. We lose students. Students come in. We remain pretty much the same over the course of the year with little bit, you know, we're a little bit up, we're a little bit down. So, we're basically a stagnant district. So, that our enrollment
059remains basically the same. Now granted, this year we have received more open enrollments, which is why I increased the ADM by 12 over the the 10. I increased it for the previous budget. But also remember, we had to cut out $175,000 out of last year's budget as well, and we were able to take that out of our capital funds and not affect our funds. >> So, because we're under I remember we thought about this last year. >> Yeah. I thought we >> does that mean >> so ADM andu ADM and student count are not the same. >> Me too. >> Yeah, me too. >> Okay. So, ADM is average daily membership. >> Okay. So, it's how many students are here that are registered with us >> Today. Okay. >> Okay. What we have to budget
060for is how many students will be here on January 22nd. I think that's >> day 100. >> So that's what we have to budget for and we have to take into account how many kids are going to come out, how many kids are going to come in >> and that is where we fall >> as far as our ADM goes. >> If we have more kids and we budgeted for less, we don't get money for them. But if we have more budget for more, we just pay them back. >> Correct. >> But so we're losing money. >> No. Well, we had to pay back again last year. >> Yeah. But it's money that we should have. I mean, >> so it it's it's your scenario where we overbudgeted based on students and had to pay
061them back, which is what we had to do last year. >> Isn't that better to pay him back than to lose money? We're I am going to guess and this is just a guess. We will most likely be paying them back again. >> You think we'll be under 617 kids >> for ADM? Yes. >> High. >> What's that? >> You're over by 30 kids. >> Okay. So, Okay. So, Okay. So, remember this. I've got 671 kids here today, right? >> 60 of those kids are kindergarteners. So you're 610 already. >> So now I've already dropped by 30 >> off of that number. >> 640. >> So we're just still >> and that's so and that remember that is students here. That's not ADM. >> Okay. I've got 30 kids in my preschool. I'm getting half
062of a half of an ADM for 10 of them. So that increases my ADM by five out of the preschool >> because we're 635. >> So I think a good way to show us would be our ADM total student numbers and then the total that count towards the evening like you're breaking down now, right? Um because it's not truly we're not getting full. It's not it's not I've got a 100 bodies sitting here. I get paid for 100 kids. >> Excuse me. >> So, we also looked at on the 44th day of school after October 3rd. So, the kids who come in after fall break do not count as school ADM students. >> It's a 75. And then 44 days later after that which would be in January >> is it the 100 day >>
063the well the 100th day that they so it keeps decreasing >> it doesn't that usually balance out with the kids leaving with kids coming in days 40 plus >> well look look at it like this if I have a student here today that started on day one with us and he is here for three weeks so 15 days and then he's unenrolled and they move to Minnesota. I get 100% ADM on that kid for three weeks. October 3rd, a kid comes in, I get 75% of the $8,500 for the remainder of the year. >> What if the Minnesota student comes back? >> Then he starts all over >> and does it count as >> No. No. So, if he comes back in March, I may not get anything for him at all because he's at
064that point of 25% or zero. >> Well, it's a good thing this isn't complicated, you know. >> Well, I guess our big thing is like it was last year, we don't want to underestimate the ADM. So, >> we'd rather give a refund and budget for a refund. >> I believe that. >> We still have that. >> Okay. >> We still have that. That's where I >> do you show that anywhere in a special used to have a dental account. >> A dental account. >> So there is there is $146,000 sitting in that that top 6200 line. So if you look at salaries and it's underneath that it's 6200 employee benefits. That is my budgeted carryover for the upcoming year, but it is also where I have that money in case I have to pay the
065state back. >> That makes more sense. >> I'm sure you'll say it again next year. >> Next month. >> Well, you know what we're getting. So, we don't want to short. We don't want to under budget. And I even I was nervous actually about bumping it to the point where where we are. >> I know how you were last year. >> Okay. >> Good thing we're at the end. >> Yes. >> I can talk more if you like wishes to approve the financial report. >> I'll set >> Miss Lever. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Amare. Yes. Mr. >> Mig. Yes. >> Mr. Austria. >> Thank you. Wow. Thank you. >> That's the end of all the voting. Okay. Special events. Lots of stuff. >> We talk about their board information discussion first. >> Um, so we
066need to look at a possible retreat date for us to get together. And I'd like to at that time plan for the financial state of the district. again looking at potential raises or what the budget's going to look like with um with the compression of our staff and minimum wage continue to grow. So that'll be a huge part of our uh retreat, but it won't be the only thing. So we're looking at either Monday, September 29th or Tuesday, September 30th. And we're looking to see whether you I know you work, but if we want to do a 12 to 4 or do we want to do a 2 to six? >> I can do either, but the 30th would be preferable. >> 30th is preferable. >> I can I can do Monday. >> Okay. What
067about you, Laura? >> Um the Tuesday the 30th. Um I I'll have to make either day work, but >> yeah, the 30th works and the later the better. do 2 to 6. Not the mornings, right? >> Okay. >> Let's just do 2 to six then. >> 2 to 6. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And we we talked about doing it here. Um just making sure that admin is able to be present and to be present. We do it usually do it offsite so that they're not being called out. But I think we can tie >> them together. Good luck. Yeah. You going to use that other white meat? >> Oh, no. >> So, our original plan was to do it here so that we're not having to carry stuff off site. But if you want
068to have it, we could have something catered for dinner. >> I think that if we have it here, no matter what, they're still going to be called. So what we talked about was >> leave your radios outside and if the hot school's burning down then somebody can come in and get >> then the fire fire alarm will alert us. [Music] >> So we could see him going to withdraw. >> We have the date so we can talk later if anybody has any suggestions on having it somewhere else. >> Here's fine. I don't know. >> Okay. >> I say whatever's easiest for everyone. Mr. Lean seems to be more relaxed when it's not here. >> Very much so. But I if you need me here, I'll be here. >> And I think because it's later, it's
0692 o'clock. >> The handcuffs is a good idea. You go with that. >> Good. Okay. So, I think the two o'clock because at least it'll just be an hour with kids on campus and then >> we'll be okay. >> Okay. >> Got to find the bus. >> That's very true. right now. What how far out do we have? >> September end of September 30th. >> We have two drivers going to training between the 21st and the 28th of this month. And hopefully if they're trained, then I become a substitute and I'm not driving around every day. >> Okay. >> So, if they pass. >> Good. Okay. Thank you. >> All right. So, that was my item. Does anybody else need anything to discuss? Um, just that if you guys know anybody for the foundation, a
070parent or something, it's not a huge commitment, but they really could use some, lack of a better word, new blood. I've been on it for 20 years. Not looking to get off, but you know, still is nice to get some new stuff. >> And Mrs. Louis, if you want to come to the Monday foundation meeting, you're welcome to come and kind of see what foundation is about. and it is here in our community room. >> But she wouldn't be in the board, >> huh? >> She wouldn't be able to join. >> Well, no. No, but just to get an idea of what the foundation does to build awareness as a board member, >> but it there'll be plenty of others this month. >> I have another meeting. >> Okay. Okay. We're good. >> Okay. >>
071And I just want to wish Mrs. somebody has luck because tomorrow her her baby leaves to Oregon to Portland State for college. So there's I mean I need boohoo um over there. Yeah. >> You know what's going to be is when you while you did it with >> Ryan already when you walk by that empty room tonight. >> But Ryan stayed in Tucson. >> Not too. Yes, it is. So, anyway, we're here for you and we're proud of you and Drew, we're proud of you, too. And your daughter did printed her thesis and >> good job. >> Very nice. >> Her PhD. >> She's probably starting her PhD January 1st. >> Let the notes reflect that these were former continental ps. >> So, our kids do well. We have Mr. Oriz Jackson at NAU as
072well. is doing great. >> So, we're we're good. Congrats. >> Anybody got anything else? >> Okay, that we are journed at 6:14. >> We have some stuff to sign. North.
