001uned States please Mrs here Mrs Mr Mrs Allan Mr so we do have a quum we just need three out of at least to to be here so you know okay next we need to approve the today's agenda I'll make a motion to approve the Gover board meeting agenda second thank you any discussion mever yes Mr MCG yes Mr AUST yes and I need to approve the minutes from our last meeting on November 12th I'll make a motion to approve the governing board me minutes for call Mrs Leber yes Mr MC y Mr ostly yes all right with that we move on to call the public and we finally have with that Tiffany Morgan would go to the stand so with that Tiffany um just say your name address and you've got three minutes and

002um we don't interact it's just uh kind of when we get back to the the speaker later um so my name is Tiffany Morgan um my address is 106 South Arizona um okay um I'm here just um I am a co- here at Continental um I've been a co- here for many years I've been uh volunteer at the school for many years um this is my first board meeting I've never ever had to do this um and it has nothing to do with Continental I want the board to be aware of the situation of what happened it was not Continental but this is what our playoff game on Thursday girls soccer at Emily Gray it was the most horrific game I have ever witnessed in my life there was um verbal abuse there was physical

003abuse there was um unbelievable just one-sided referees they took a read every bylaw possible they took two goals away from us they that's they think you can't do that so um we lost the reason why this is so important was it was our championship game and they took two goals away from us and we lost because of that and um we've had so many problems with Emily Gray um I could get into really big detail um they one of the girls um smashed our goalie's face with her cleat and used very very disrespectful graphic vocal just language to her while she was in the go injured I had to I've never had to um enter a field in my life as a coach or I had to go across the field to inter them it

004was so bad I went to the coach who was their administrator or their athle D director was their coach she did nothing about it she continued to let them play as she saw our girls in tears scared literally had no clue what was going on it was Unreal and I am asking I don't know where to go or where to start but I was told the board cannot help me but I want Emily Gray out of our our conference they we drive an hour up to them their their their pool is so big and they are to Continental it is just it's just I don't even know why they're in our and our our confer but my I am here to have my girls back I am here to stand up for my girls because

005they left that game hurt physically mentally and defeated and that's why I'm here so I I just want to see a difference I want to see if we make a change and get imigra out that's all I have to say thank [Music] you thank you and with that we will move on to the superintendent presentation good evening president members of the board and all our amazing students and parents and families thank you for coming we've had a very um busy November and already December so I'd like to just share some highlights with you so this is episode8 and it is um friends is our theme so it's the one where the Colts end the first semester so we're very excited about all the work that we've done so far um this year again you will

006be hearing from Mr Matt smer on some of the grand grants that we have received from Freeport I did share this at our last meeting but knowing that we are well on our way with projects and working hard this year to work on receiving Grant funds to help um continue the programs that we have here at Continental for students and families so Grant funds at work like I said we've already um been using grant funding to help us so uh boys and girls you probably noticed the stare in the rails between K1 and 23 have you seen them do you like them yes okay um also we have a d a dual purpose retaining wall and bench that was up outside of our cafeteria also to try to keep the wood chips in one way

007and away from the term so students will have additional space to sit and and hang out during lunches as well um our Cults Belling be congratulations to all our spelling be contestants our fifth grader Juliana Patterson is our Belling be winner this year and she will be representing in February at the county of belly be we had a elll family friends giving thank you to Mrs Sable for her positive energy her preparation and amazing decor for that evening the students have grown in their English development and in their confidence is amazing to see um parents were all collaborating as well and it was a great event our seventh graders went on a field trip to the a stem Adventure at at Pima Community College and you can see there on the left Mrs that was

008the bug that Mrs AUST ate um all of her students except for one ate the bugs that were dipped in chocolate honey and flavored bugs um so they were at the edible bug booth and I'm so glad that I didn't go on that field trip been pressured to eat a bug um it's not really on my list of things to do that I want to do they watched experiments live so it was a great experience for our students we also had another student leadership Lighthouse team meeting and um last month we did focus groups with our students to try to figure out how they feel at school how they what do they know and feel about bullying bullying how safe do they feel at school what can we do as a group as a student

009leadership team to make a difference at our schools so we narrowed down our goals and we are going to continue our beind efforts um with notes and modeling kindness and encouragement and so all the student leadership Lighthouse team students are committed to giving five cents of Praise a day so they're all going to work at being kind and encouraging every single day to see if we can help make a difference in the words that kids are using in on campus um we spent a lot of time discussing the behavior on the buses as you know our buses are crowded um I did go on to the buses last week and spoke to the students and to the monitors and the drivers and um really talking to the middle school students about being leaders on the

010bus and a lot of our Kinder and first grade students are a little bit squirly that we're trying to um get under control so hopefully your students your children will be noticing a difference on the buses if they are bus riders because we're really working hard in that area and talking about where the students feel um less safe they were talking about being on the playground with so many students and U we do have monitors out there but of course we have a big field and it's hard to be everywhere um but with our net role play initiative and our grant funds um we are able to uh we're putting up more activities for to do outside we have withall we're doing Connect Four we have um what else ping pong and what's the other

011thing going corle ladder ball so there's going to be a lot of things for the kids to play so they can kind of split up on the playground so hopefully um you know they will be bored and they'll have different activities to do so stay tuned our ballet Continental The Nutcracker we are so proud of our alumni and present Colt ballerinas um Olivia Frasier who is um Miss Laura Le's granddaughter was there on the left she had one of the main roles um and Maddie Anderson their seventh graders here at school Matilda Blum and Caroline wott are fourth graders here at school Bella Jacobson is second grader and then we have our alumni students Juliana M Sophie Ben hori and Grace Matthews and it it was just an amazing amazing presentation I really felt like

012a a proud mom as I was watching our kids there we took our third graders um to the MAA on a film trip and fun fact that valet Continental is southern Arizona's longest running nonprofit Dance Company um now it's in its 39th year and they're I think the Tucson ballet is a year behind us so amazing that it's been running for so long and you can tell the quality of the work and the practice that the students put in so congratulations do we have any of the students here our audience Maddie yes it was amazing thank you um also our Continental jazz band and chamber orchestra were spreading the holiday holiday cheer Friday at Cano historic Branch so um they're there thank thank you to miss LTI her students and parents for supporting and encouraging

013our children because I know that you're asked to be at a lot of places and drop off and pick up and evenings so we really appreciate it and there's a little video short snippet that's okay we'll we'll play it maybe we could play it at the end I was there it was really was there too okay holiday house and more thank you to our PTC I know we have parents in the audience who who also help set up um our holiday house and it's just amazing the p parents the donors who continue this exciting um tradition of the student shopping for their family members PTC also organized drawings for Thanksgiving of turkeys and fixings for our teachers and staff so um it's just so appreciated everything that our parent teacher Club does for our students

014and our families our Colts also shined at saas Festival of Lights so thank you to our sponsors Michelle wera and mava alen we also appreciate their time and dedication because they're at a lot of functions representing our Cults on a regular basis our CX Washington DC update just so everybody knows it's the eth grade trip we have 48 students scheduled to go 11 chaperon three sponsors and one administrator we have upcoming fundraisers with our wreath raffle and I have some here if anybody's interested they're $5 a ticket and first prize is valued to $400 of gift cards second prize is $300 of gift cards and third price is 150 so Miss Jenna has them here if you're interested we have Ranger grounds Little Caesar pizza kits coming up and our Valentine dance those will be

015the next upcoming fundraisers so we've raised 58,000 of 112,000 needed um and that's through fundraisers and tax credit so also if anyone wants to donate tax credit funds to Civics that's also welcomed as well our Continental preschool just received a five star quality rating for um for Quality first rating five stars do we have any preschool students here yay y so it is the highest rate that you can get and um a heartfelt thanks to everyone for contributing to continental's preschool five star achievement we are so proud to celebrate this accomplishment with our community and quality first is a program of Arizona's Early Childhood agency through first things first that supports preschool um in our state so congratulations Dr Robinson and staff and we are going to get a banner for the fence that says

033you so have before you tonight is the district Finance report um only nothing major to to report of it but just gives you an idea high level overview of where we at with everything so I bring that to you tonight for your approval I'll make a motion to approve the district financial report I'll second I do have one quick question why online item number 62 um is there any lag significant lag like you know how the reconcile between the county and us that sometimes anything that so what you have so what this report shows you is from what we budgeted what we have spent and what we have been cumed right so the county side of this different but if you're asking is there lag between the district and there is a huge amount of

034lag between the district and the county so we're supposed to reconcile expenses cash and revenues every month and I do that with their preliminary reports um but it could be four five six months later until I get their final for the month so I have sitting on my desk their final report from August does that affect us paying our vendors no it does not it it's just it's just a matter it's just a matter what where it really affects us is when we're looking at um Cash Cash accounts so all of our funds that are in the 500s so if I say that we have $80,000 within Food Service I gotta wait five six months later till I find out well the county says you've got 85,000 or they say you've got 40,000 so it

035really a crunch on why is it wrong there's no way you can make a call and reconcile that a little faster no to me it seems fairly you would think it's a the Count's used an an Antiquated system that they created fors they are in the process of changing over um we're hoping January they'll be at the point where they change over to to the same system but the county version of what we use seems to me any business want to know within 24 hours what's in there or not yeah why why School different I get it it's and our the system we're using is the state system the system we use is used by about 98% yeah of the school districts within the state and it's not exactly state of the Y no I've

036seen of it it's not user friendly um it is not error friendly so as if you were to make an error it doesn't just pop up and say hey you just made this mistake it is when you go back through to do your reconciliation you realize oh it should have been 91 cents not 19 cents when you're trying to figure out why you're off my pennies good time okay thank you call Mrs Le yes Mr MC yes Mr AUST yes and we need to approve a uh St oh staff pay is good news but we are doing that so we um we said that once we did our budget revisions we would look at what we have left over and see what we could do part of Staff as far as staff raises we concerned

037um if you remember right this time last year we had to do a budget revision where we had to take out 274 77,000 out of our budget and it left us with about a half a million dollars to get us through the year this time at the same time this year we have about S A little over $700,000 that gets us through the year so we looked at doing like a 2% raise across the board and when we realized that we had more money that we could spend toward staff raises we started playing with percentages to figure figure out where we could get the most bang for our buck so what we're proposing tonight is for the certified staff our teachers to get a 3 and a half% raise our classified staff to get a

0383% and our administrative staff to get two and a half% when we do if if this is approved we'll be right about the same place we were this time last year about half a million dollars left and we ended the year with just over a 100 Grand so it's still tight it's still tight but it's getting the money out to the people and you've got about a 100 buffer 100,00 100,00 yeah Bas based upon our spending from last year they can be used for a variety of variet of things yes last minute yes unnown yes so my sh this time you had the ,000 so last year we had to cut the 27 something, and that left us with about 500 this year we had to cut and you'll have that later on tonight but

039we had to cut 59 just over 59,000 and what we did with that is instead of touching our m& budget where we could hold on to that we cut it out of our capital budget instead so now this year our capital budget you know we've got about 80 grand left for the year um sparring any more large problems that arise like a bus blowing a turbo and the metal shards going into the engine yeah well I wish I could make that up but that it's very speci we have a plan but you know we're we're we're sitting good on furniture we're sitting good with anything that we would normally purchase out of capital so I don't see us spending much more out of that fund anyway and so if you recall we were doing the

040raises in January versus August with new contracts so last year raises were not given so this would you know we had told the staff that once we knew how much we needed to revise the budget we would look at what we could do so we did have a Financial State district meeting with the teachers last week to share that this is what we proposing to the board they feel about those members I mean they're very happy because they were afraid it was going to be nothing yes yes that I'll make a motion to approve the three increases for 25 I'll second Laura yes so I was at that meeting last week and it was kind of weird because the the vibe I couldn't get a f for in the room because it was in the

041cafeteria and everybody sat back and then M Rico made everybody move to the front and um um I think they were scared that it was going to the same meting we should have played music but anyway when will well you guys did a really nice job presting we had hard enough time getting the sound work well there is our technical difficulties we should talk to our it he was not here we put put the pressure on okay Laura Mrs Liber yes Mr MCG yes Mr austral absolutely okay now we need to spend some money for a purchase order so before you tonight um we have some rather old cafeteria tables Drew I think your name's still on the bottom andum so what we're asking for tonight is we're looking at getting so when it says

042eight what that is it's eight pieces but it takes two pieces to make a full tail there in halfs so what we're asking for tonight is approval to issue a purchase order to Coyote School Furnishings so that we can go ahead and purchase new benches for the Y thir new tables for the cafeteria the total amount of this purchase order would be just over 10,667 and4 I'll move to approve the purchase order for new tables second thiser yes Mr yes Mr yes any value they have zero value we will most likely strip them for parts and try and keep other tables together a lot of the ones that we're getting rid of are missing seats and they're so old you know the the tables themselves are so old that they're not even made anymore so

043finding replacement parts is you know it's the first place we did it's look for replacement parts Parts just couldn't find how far out are they for deliver I don't know to be well we missed this agenda item on last month's maybe so if he told me it was you know five six weeks ago forgot okay thank you all right sorry for that now the new calendar we actually have two of these to vote on one is next year and one is a year after yes so um before you you have the school calendar nothing has changed from this year number of days and hours and um teacher days stay the same and early release days so we did consult with some many test calendar as well um to make sure that the holidays align with

044theirs like we always do staff has seen it and has been provided the opportunity for feedback as well so I think's good we're asking for approval so we can start to make plans for summer PD and summer school and next year I'll make the motion to approve um the 2526 school calendar sorry U the only discussion I would have is is it's so great that we can have Thanksgiving week off mhm like you ever pull your kid out early for high school Thanksgiving yeah me too this week and last year so yeah so you know they don't do anything that week anyway so but it's it's I think it's great that we can back that in and still be way above our hours and whatnot a lot of districts have started to give that Wednesday

045off because before they would go through Wednesday ear on Wednesday so um so that was good kids Tuesday in some districts this yearo Mrs LEF yes Mr MC yes Mr a and this is a new to me we're projecting out two years now yes and we usually wait for saita to get their draft and get their approval so that we can do it so there's what's done so to be able to submit for 2627 yes bring later in that year yes what throws it off is Easter always changes is that what it is Easter uhuh so Easter changes okay cool have a motion I'll make a motion for the 26 27 school year calendar Mrs Leber yes Mr MC yes Mr as and next is our uh revision well I stole my own Thunder on

046this one not too long ago um but we did cut $59,500 [Music] but other than that are just small tweaks within the within the capital budget to get us down to where we needed to be without having to touch our our M budget I would ask why' you have to cut the 59,000 um so we're we have a Grace of 1% so we can over budget by 1% of what we totally of what we say and would be fine yeah so our total cut so we had to cut 1,000 and some change but to stay within that 1% it was only 59,2 so that gets us to our one within that 1% of what ad says that we should have budgeted oh that's because we didn't have the student count yes I seem to remember

047somebody that said we should add more to I don't know who that was you've been doing well we did good right cool thank you that's what I thought it wased to make sure okay notion I'll make a motion to approve the December budget revision [Music] Mrs Le yes Mr mcin yes Mr yes and now we're going to go through the next 12 or so pages of the first read of the service advisory the whole thing to no so the first read policy is on special instructional programs um with with um Mrs swades that's our special education director she's been doing a great job in ensuring the documents that are needed to be documented we have we've been updating our website to be in compliance with um ad and what the requirements are for um policy
