next meeting registration just an update um we currently have 42 brand new students two continental 20 of those are um kinder kids but we have nine um preschool and 13 new students second through eighth graders that are going to be new for open enrollment we have 82 students approved nine are staff students and we have nine on the wait list and our total open enrollment from last year was n what was the 76 so we need to update that slide so we've gone from 76 open and roll students to 82 this year summer Network update you can see um Joel and Greg have been very busy um inspecting what we expect on these upgrades so the network upgrade um work has been completed so you can see that the project involved replacing network cable the
cloud key firewall Network switches and wiress access points so that's been a huge um project we also extended our Network out to the snack bar and we're excited about that because we didn't have Wi-Fi out there and um we're the process of extending our wireless network out to the bus barn as well so kids are going to be able to do homework wherever they are on campus when they're watching sports out there they'll be able TOS um another the camera project replacement project is also almost complete we're hoping to issue the pledge disc items within the next week um we have a majority of of our new security cameras online and configured the completion of the project will enable us to monitor our facilities and grounds locally from a monitoring station and remotely from our
mobile devices so I'm excited to get the rata app on my phone so I'll be able to see all the access points and cameras Joe did we increase we went from how many to how many no increase in cameras just repl a replacement of an an old full close circuit system perfect thank you PA system the PA project is scheduled to to be completed by the beginning of July as well so we've been using our phone system so you can see there and this is where the digital clock will be for us here in the boardroom um dedicated fiber has been run to each building building cdnf are finished with clots and switches mounted and building is scheduled to be completed this week so thank you Joe additional slummer work you can see the plumbing
work is about 50% complete in school and they're currently working in the counselor's office where they have located an abandoned cleanout so you can see the workers there and our goal is to still have it scheduled to be completed July 10 and that bow still had about four feet down to go when that picture was taken yes so major majorly under construction in the Middle School okay Avid conference in San Diego there's our Avid staff members that are there so um as a reminder Avid is appren achievement lifelong advant lifelong Advantage which incorporates writing in collaboration reading and organization for kids so it's we will have maybe half of our staff will be Abid trained by the time this group comes back so we're super excited to just continue to grow our Abid school by
effort efforts and again going back to like we discussed what are the Abid components that are going to give us the biggest B for our bu and how are we going to expect what we expect in terms of organization and binder checks and goal setting and students monitoring their progress as well um as I mentioned before I um presented yesterday at the ASA summer Institute so we talked about creating high functioning teams throughout School turnaround efforts AKA School Improvement and um I did say I feel like an Unsolved Mysteries investigator so School Improvement is a very hard mystery to solve and there's so many factors to consider jungle and systems to pay extra attention to um and just a refresher on the four domains of Rapid Improvement our leadership talent management and with talent management
talking about our recruiting efforts I just want to make sure everybody knows that this is the first time in the seven years I've been here that we haven't had turn over in the elementary school and we had to replace one teacher who left for retirement purposes so I really feel that we have the right people in the right seats on our bus to move forward and I'm very excited because we will be able to just continue where we left off in a more seamless manner than having to retrain teachers on specific curriculum so again thank you just for another amazing year and feel like we have a great team as a board and I look forward to our continued work thank you okay that takes us to the consent agenda um I motion to approve
agenda any discussion Mrs leer yes Mrs yes Mrs alen yes Mr mg yes Mr yes okay Mr SCH District all right so didn't have room to clear out so if you remember back in December we we needed to do our um our cut in our budget that left us was about 240,000 for the year so just to let you know that after the latest payrolls and everything else that numberers down to about $50,000 so we've got we're able to manage that $240,000 for six months so right now we're still looking at about $50,000 left over within the M um but with that being said I will fre it open to any questions yall may have happens I'll District okay what happens it get rolled over to the next some stuff can roll over yeah there
is% the the gone away with the percentages so we can used to be 3% so the yeah so the rollover has been whatever you can carry over you know there you know that's an interesting piece of that I'm currently watching the lawsuit and the superintendent from tson high school district was on there and he was saying how he's happy he's got the highest rollover of any District in the state and they rolled over $74 million um them too much money right um and he bragged about having the highest paid teachers in the state all right well what school that tallest high school district oh yeah um where does the rollover funds fit into next year's budget does it live kind of outside the budget it's unrestricted or do we have to allocate it as like
normal Revenue so it's since it's already been received as Revenue it just gets rolled over into our brand total so when we start to put in numbers like override AMS it falls underneath that line it's just rolled into this the county doesn't give us 50 Grand no no no there okay I'm surprised really yeah yeah so to to put a symbol if our budget next year was $100,000 with the 50,000 we have 150 good job managing that thank you is in tall order and you we saw couple those Greg will you address that lawsuit just tell them what it is it's kind of high level yeah this this still falls under the district Finance so the high level of there's a lawsuit currently going on um believe it's the Glendale Elementary School District who is
bringing it for all districts across the State against the school facilities Bo you know their real names now is the school facilities division since they moved under a different department um basically you have an attorney that's representing the school districts and he's going going up against an attorney for this speaker of the house he's got there's an attorney for this the president of the Senate then there's another attorney for the uh the state um the state and the house and the Senate are claiming that since school districts have the the ability to um go out for ponds that Capital dollars doesn't need to be as high because you have that ability um they're also saying that um and this is one of the funniest arguments that they're making is that school districts have the ability
to move their ml funds into Capital which is true we do have that ability but it has to be done with the adopted budget that we do in July um their argument is that you could take your entire M budget and put it in to Capital true we can do but then we don't pay staff we don't pay electric bills we don't pay any of utilities so it's one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard of in um long story short glendel is representing all the school districts saying one the school facilities board is except tson I imagine they uh were testifying on behalf of the state no they were just every every every District administrator they they called up is school districts um because even tson was saying that they've got like a100 Million
worth of projects that they still need to get done you know as an alumni of cison I know that the one building was built in 1917 they're still using and I remember back I'm just going to cover this up real quick back in the 80s when I was there um that that building did not stay cool whatsoever um but but the big the long and the short of it is is that they're saying there's not enough funding the process with the sfb is too long and too comfortable to get stuff fix um one of the pieces of testimony that I heard is that the sfb currently has about $197 Million worth of projects that they have not funded and they are basically out of money and it's the state's responsibility is that the legisl legisl
responsibility to keep it funded so the legislature is the one that allocates the the budget towards the sfb um they have in the past allocated additional funding um I think I want to say like two three maybe even four years ago they alloc like an additional $600 million but that's the nuts and the BS of that so there are more money to go to more money to go to the sfb maybe streamlining the process you know as you guys are well aware we've got a couple projects that are in the pipeline that have been in there for a good year yeah you two of those projects won't even look to be approved until August and if if they get approved if they don't get approved in August they may get approved in December they may
not but approval me funding once it's approved it's funded okay like we currently have a project sitting two pro well three projects that are waiting fund yes thank you you're welcome sir else for Greg okay that'll take us to new business to the superintendent oh yeah we got yes Mrs Amaria yes Mr MCG yeah Mrs Alvin yes Mr yes now we do the annual superintendent uh evaluation for 2324 scho so we met as everybody knows in executive session for about an hour or so a pretty good discussion approve I move to approve the annual superint evaluation I second any discussion I would just in this point like to thank mrso for all our hard work for retaining pretty much everybody which is pretty amazing so I don't care what they say about you they must
like thanks thank you my pleasure yes Mrs Allan yes Mr yes the next is to approve the performance pay as discussed in the executive session approve the superintendent performance P discuss session second any discussion so that takes us to the override anybody get a chance to skin through that believe it or not there was a version of that that we had to scale down 200 or soed limited to so this is the one that came from the attorney suggest so that's another action um I move to approve the governing board proceed any discussion and this is current with current numbers yes okay so last time I thought we said the 1% increase would it was approximately $47,000 is that or did I misunderstand that it's so the 1% increase going from 14 to 15% does
increase the total budget by about $47,000 okay I was just wondered what the six um 632 so that would be the the total amount for the 16 for the 15% okay I think that needs to be re somehow so that they're don't see those High numbers and then think that's what we're gaining that's because that's I mean that's why I'm asking because when I read it I thought we were gaining that 1% by that much money not the 47,000 right read I think the third paragraph should maybe be the only paragraph I mean that but larger f um 632 would be for the upcoming school year there's just a lot of words that I wouldn't understand right away States aggregate expenditure limit I want know that me unfunded mandate increase but one penny tax rate
per $100 of net assess valuation um it's pretty easy to as a voter how it affects me I don't care how it affects the school flipflop that paragraph three with the bullets to the top and then put ariza's P at the end wait so I'm looking at a toally no this is I'm reading this different last I guess I printed it so I thought it the same no I think the one that you may be looking at is the one that we had to trim down to get to the work okay okay so still I think that the the numbers there should 632 because ites it that much you could put which is an increase of BL I like that only 447,000 that's not a lot of money that's being one teacher salary us an
increase of $47,000 to our budget right yeah I I I like that better because it looks like oh we're going to be gaining 632,000 off of this 1% and I'd be like well good so with that change um and that clarification then we could we could vote no on this and then bring it back or we vote Yes on the letter with changes and then we can I mean do you see what I'm I like that the 47,000 rather than the 632,000 July in July but our is July 11 so we could we could vote and then tweak it and then it'll still be approved but then we can still bring the final so can I can I bring this point up so the next agenda item that we have is the proposed budget and
with the state not having passed the budget yet I've got nothing to propose um what we could do is once that state budget comes in we could have a special board meeting to get that approved as well as I just so you guys have all the options on the table and then sorry and then we're gonna we're going to continue to we're trying to keep the small classes right we're not trying to lower the class continue to keep right okay so to me it reads like we have these things and keep and we're at risk of losing them if we don't ask i' like this letter for us as bullet points when people ask us about it I think this is good information for us to know but like I agree with Kelly might be
a little lengthy but then I didn't read the those the the last one this last one yeah that makes more sense the yeah with the bullets somebody might read that and say um what about Reading Writing written you don't care about that I know this is the fluffy stuff there but um I think those comments are going to come from people who are going to be antagonis like what I see on the screen might just put the 47,000 that be might so they're not due we just looked it up till Friday August 9th is when all the pro and con statement but I know that but the count re the county would like like us to have julye is July 11 yeah I I think you should take off the sentence there are many unknowns
as to what the final applications are by 50 5.4 million so this is a governing board letter so in that Google doc you'll all have to come together and make suggestions that agree on what you want to submit for the July okay Mrs yes Mrs are you sure you no no we're not we we're not approving it no thank you thank you we were paying attention yes I wasn't paying attention I was read no Mr Mrs alen no [Music] budget get honestly no so do we V this to well there's there's nothing for me to submit to you for a proposed budget but this will allow us to have a small discussion about it um right now what we're basically waiting on is the state to pass their budget there's a couple Lines within the
budget that should increase um I do have the budget basically done I'm just waiting on those final figures to come in and as of right now with numbers being exact same we're looking at basically the same budget that we had this current fiscal year any anticipation honestly I was I was looking and looking today and I don't see any movement whatsoever from the from the state legislature as far as get budget I have never seen a budget this late ask I've never seen this late I I'm usually struggling to get you guys a budget for your 48 hour viewing prior to the so the deadlines are July 5th so more than likely we'll have to have a special meeting the end of June Drew could you call Katie all right looking at um the budget
are we still looking at possible potential percentage increase teachers for July right now it's hard to say because I don't know what that increase from the state looks like you know I I I really don't want to go into next June you know with $50,000 sitting there hoping nothing major happens do they I I forget I should this answer the number is we get $88,000 per kit whatever that number is that's they give you and then so the numbers that we're waiting on is the base level right which right now is $ 4,914 okay that's the number that they adjust upwards for inflation so we're waiting on that there's also a group b weight or students on free and reduce lunches and from what I understand that's supposed to be going from a 022 to
a 025 so that'll give us few extra pennies in our budget but the the big one is that base support level that 4914 see what it goes to but then do you go in you say well we have 600 kids and then they give you that you re budget for the 600 you remember last year we were short the kids so I I looked at where we're at right now with um student enrollment um our budget number ad last year was 587 in change so right now I have us budgeted at 590 and come this fall we end up with 610 get no State budgets can only go down or District budgets can only go down with DEC so what if we budget for 600 that's what I'm saying what if we what if we
budgeted for 610 and don't spend the money don't spend the money and then if we have to pay it back pay it back I mean that is an option I mean we do that like wouldn't we do that is just so not having to do that budget Revision in December so that's you know a nice little thing I mean mox's out there trying get kids from s to come down think about bus if that work you're going to get to that number so I think we're all asking for more budget right if you can't go up but you can come down that doesn't make sense that we can it's because the tax rate is already set so the tax rate they can't readjust the tax rate I think we need to ask for more money
and just not spend it and when they ask for it back we WR we would we would be able to Project based on enrollment how much money we need to leave and Reser decision yeah because it's really going to come down to what the state's going to say we're gonna have as far as kids in January on day that's what it all comes down to but rision to doe in December but they go but they they they base it off of their they're not their ADM number projection for for January based on our Trends and I feel like this is a feature not like they they misplace all of these steps and dates on purpose yeah so that you don't ask for the extra to be honest it was so much nicer when it wasn't
current year funding when you just basically said okay my 100th day ADM last year was this this is how I get well of course why keep it simple well because there's a lot of districts that were complaining that um Charter Schools were getting current year funding and didn't have to do you know be a year in re so the state said okay have the same we have our the goal of 80% of our students will show growth in the year we can be good for us to be a little bit mty and the students that we're anticipating we will have for that purpose that we will be able to have a reserve and readjust then without without um if you do that on your financial report this buffer we're building in I assume they need
to be spread out among the lines items I would put it I would put it where I have always put it there's a line item for um employee Dent okay remember that R some feathers in the but there's no line item in the budget that says astery stuff as long as there's a clear way to keep to keep an eye on it between June and December could be teer I mean if it's 10 kids and we get those 10 kids at four grand a piece well it could also mean get the St well I know but I'm just saying that's a whole year yeah 10 yeah so with that being said do we want to at a tenative date at the end of June since July 5th there's Fourth of July and then the fth
the fth is a holiday so it would have to be by well looking at any dates Now is really irrelevant because we don't know when the state's going to pass the budget but they have to pass it before July 5th um they supposed to have it passed before May 15th exactly so you know that was what six weeks ago four weeks ago they don't because we only have two weeks before July if the state doesn't pass a budget they can't hold us to dates if there's nothing to submit 61 because we're 590 is what you're asking for right now that's what I have it in there as 590 and what's your what's your projection Ro well I didn't have a projection you guys threw out 610 you're get do do you see kids from coming
is there family interest so Greg he budgeted right now to the TIY for 59 because we were 587 yes the last budget so I mean if we project 10 more kids do 601 if we do 600 or 601 597 which is 10 kids 590 59 you said You' project 590 so if we did 600 or 601 we're looking at 11 more kids than that than what you originally put you feel comfortable we do have on the waiting list do you feel comfortable of your open en we've got on our open is open is still open yeah there's 10 we still have found these movies in so we're wasn't n going to go adopt five kids we asked so what's what's with the nine kids on the waiting list I mean are they we had to
deny some for capacity okay whether it be class size or special special needs capacity um and grade level based on the number of students already on IEPs on where they are in the grades that they're going in so but but the law for open enrollment has changed you can no longer deny them they have to be on a waiting list so with with the intention that when there is a vacancy or kids withdraw you can call up kids that are on waiting L and then throughout the year and you can't like once you accept them they have to stay here not necessarily yes yes I thought think is it a grandfather's sence like your year to year or do they have to reapply so they have to reapply every year you don't have to accept
them next year we don't have to accept them but it's not common practice for us to not to deny kids who have been here for you know five years and just all of a sudden you know we don't have the capacity to your needs and then and also siblings so the priority is Staff kids and then continuing open enrollment kids and siblings before we look at brand new in students so we we will we will track down our staff members that live in the district to have them get more kids the neighborhood Ali is not in the district but it be open en yes open enr and my God son is coming he's a kindergarten that got the from right see so we had that that round up from somebody the parents so once the
work gets out how great we are and how happy the kids are then we're have more so I know how our Spanish Immersion going I know that was a big sell point for me when I open so it's it's it's probably one of our programs that needs a little bit more refining um but the problem becomes when you have only three teachers and you're trying to separate kids or gender and behaviors and it it's very hard for that the students to they there's a lot of drop in I want to say so kids who come in New Or who are new at the grade level so it's hard for the teacher to keep up with the progress of the current kids and how they develop their Spanish language so that becomes a challenge that was
a big selling point at that point but it was strong then I mean when came to kindgarten first second third grade it was it was it was strong so we have teachers still teaching it we have kids who are taking the Spanish assessment um and we have the curriculum now with Benchmark Advance we have students who truly will be bilingual biliterate kids because they've going be able to read in Spanish as well which before we didn't have a read curriculum for Spanish it was more development to you know the oral communication and songs our goal is to have a bilingual biliteracy seill out of middle school so that maybe the kids and cl out of Spanish at the high school so that's that's our goal for the program Olivia translated for me at church on
Sunday oh good so I mean she hears it understands it but I don't know if she would have been able to get get and speak it you know but she she did very well and I yeah I was impress so that's what we want to keep keep fostering that on to you see the events coming up the next month and a half you can see the list is a little bit smaller than it's been in the last three months so we have um water day in our showcase Foundation our regular meeting so and our new teacher induction like I mentioned we do not have any new elementary teachers it's be one person so going to give us more time um for us to continue to dig into the data we more prepared for teachers on
what we're going to roll out for service um July 31st are our staff pictures um and at 7:45 in the morning with our govering Bo breakfast right after at 9 so please mark your calendars for pictures and that day week [Music] ises okay Wednesday morning Foundation is working on cafer we can walk and go see it if you'd like to go see it at meeting they did run the kids through summer school no I think they're going to do it um on Thursday the summer school kids are going to are here are GNA work on the mural mural [Music] stay reled reled [Music] do they count the en budget so preschoolers they only count as half and they only count as half as if they are just identified as and Kinder again is half is
half we have whole day yes we should push that and smaller classes and that's another thing that that the attorneys in that lawsuit bringing up is that you're offering full day kindergarten aren't you offering half you could use that money for Capital needs so I my two older kids I put them in a charter school because I worked full time and the charter school is offering full day so he lost two students yeah and that's just another argument that those attorneys are making in that lawsuit it's not a good arum no it's not well there's districts that charge for the full day ma charges full day and then they Char inter that we are 659 two off
