hours ago Mrs quos informed me that I was going to be giving a speech so here we go I would imagine now that you eighth graders just heard that I'm going to give a speech about this class some of you might be sweating a little bit over how the last couple of years have gone for some of you I want to put you at ease and take a deep breath I won't be mentioning no names or no situations today instead I would like to explore a single word that word is challenge what does it mean to you is it a good or a bad thing what is the difference between challenges and a challenge by the end of this speech it is my hope that you understand that both can Inspire and motivate each of

you to become contributing members of [Music] society some of us are born into this world with challenges some of us inherit challenges that others have created for us and some of us create challenges for ourselves by making poor decisions that probably doesn't apply to anybody up here though whichever of these categories you fit into and it could be more than one there is really only one truth that exists your effort and determination towards a situation can make the difference in the outcome if it doesn't challenge you it doesn't change you all of us in this world have challenges of one kind or another while those who find themselves being successful in life typically accept challenges and even look for challenges is as a way to strengthen themselves physically mentally spiritually and intellectually life doesn't get

easier you just get stronger set goals that build character within yourself I challenge this class to not create challenges by making poor decisions that may negatively affect you or others around you for the rest of your life these poor decisions can include vaping use of foul language racial comments mocking others starting or spreading rumors and self harm just to name a few I challenge you however to look for ways to overcome addiction hate and ignorance challenge yourself to become great and do great things in the world I have seen greatness in each and every one of you that sits before me today and we as an admin team look forward to seeing what this class can offer this community and this world if you always try to put your best foot forward by being safe

really okay you guys are all going back to kindergarten okay we'll try that one more time all right if you always put your best foot forward by being and responsible those are the three school rules if you don't know that that have been practicing since preschool life can be challenging at times doubting yourself is normal letting it stop you is a choice according to CS Lewis you can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending so whatever your challenges are rather imposed or inflicted you are in you are enough you are stronger than you think you are you are the future you can stand by and watch yours and our world Decay by hatred and ignorance or you can accept my challenge to be the change

remember difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations as many of you have heard me say on our many adventures together over the last several years you represent yourself your family and your school although you are closing this chapter of your life by completing Middle School here at Continental we will never forget this class and I want you to always remember once a cult always a cult congratulations I have a tradition before I speak to take a selfie with you guys smile ready [Music] guys all right 8ighth grade family this is going to be tough so I came prepared see it's going to be hard to make eye contact with you guys in the next few minutes because I do have memories whether it's meeting you for the first time when you walk in through the

front doors you holding doors open for me [Applause] e grade family The Time Is Here eighth grade promotion nine years ago you were promoting from kindergarten and now you are here before all your teachers staff family and friends we are all here to celebrate you and your accomplishments in about 28 hours you will be walking out of our gates for the last time as a continental student you'll be walking straight into a new chapter high school as you prepare for this new Journey take what you've learned throughout your academic career study habits will be key in ensuring you reach your goals stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things is key in ensuring that you reach New Heights and learn new things about strengths and talents you have within within you talents that

you had all along that you might not know about making hard choices and right decisions when obstacles arise is key in ensuring that you will stay on the right path keeping your family involved in your life will ensure that you have strong supports in place giving you those pushes that you need to keep going and not give up friendships friendships that you've made throughout the years and friendships that you will make in high school are ones to be cherished and nurtured I have seen how much friendships have meant to you here and in the past three years in Middle School the key to Great friendships are supporting each other in your highest and weakest moments and always having each other's backs knowing how to forgive how to move forward how to truly listen to a

friend and how to be there celebrating them and each other in moments of achievement students when I started working here those those of you that were here you were fourth graders I was taller than you over the past few years many of you have joined our cult family and it's been a joy and an honor to have you be a part of our family it's been an honor seeing your talents unfold watching you celebrate wins whether it's in the classroom in clubs in sports in the Arts and I've had the honor of watching you grow up I'm so proud of you all for getting to this point to this hour where we get to celebrate you and give you a send off that I want you to hold on to in your hearts forever cherish

this moment and those and everybody that's in this room for this next hour take it all in so please stand if you've been here since preschool first grade second grade third grade fourth grade fifth grade sixth grade seventh grade [Applause] and eighth [Applause] grade I always want you to take a stand in life I want you to stand for things even if you're standing alone because that's what takes a leader and we've seen leaders in [Music] you many many times we' like to say that we think that we can teach you and you can learn from us but eighth graders we've learned a lot from you a whole lot I love you very much and in the great words of this school just like Mr lean said and everybody when I say it please join

with us we say once a cult and then everyone says always a cult so once a cult I love you I'll miss you congratulations and in a few short years in like a blink of an eye you're going to be here walking through our school as high school seniors and we can't wait for that moment we love you guys [Applause] we are pleased to we are pleased to introduce three fellow classmates who are delivering a class speech our first Speaker our first speaker will be Al Maron [Music] [Applause] good morning parents teachers families friends honored guests in the class of 2028 welcome to Continental school's eighth grade promotion it feels crazy that I'm standing up here giving a speech for my eighth grade promotion however I have a feeling I'm not the only one who

this feels this moment is so surreal looking back I remember eight years ago we were standing up at our kindergarten graduation but with what felt like the blink of an eye were now being promoted from middle school to High School some of us have been together since kindergarten others came later but in the end we all came together to become an amazing eighth grade class as we move forward and enter High School some of us will break off and go to different schools others will remain together but we can all agree we've impacted each other somehow we've all helped each other become the people we are now and the people we will be in the future I believe our experience here at Continental will help us be better people and help us create a better

Society in the future on behalf of my classmates I would like to take a moment to thank some of the people who helped get us here I want to thank my classmates for making my time here so special thank you to my friends for supporting everything I do and thank you to the teachers and staff because without you we wouldn't be able to say things like I've been to Washington DC or I learned this in 8th grade and without any of you I wouldn't be able to be standing up here giving this speech we would also like to thank our parents and family because without you guys we wouldn't have none of us would have been able to make it this far thank you for being there for us there are ups and downs on

all the times in between so as this chapter we all have shared ends we know that another one will start when we go to high school ready to take on whatever comes our way because we know we will be there for each other and when the Pythagorean theorem genetic m a propaganda techniques historical movies musical composers or how to we Michael Jordan come up again we will think of Mrs Fanning Mr Fox Mrs Duo Mr Vance Mrs hatch and Mr fman and think to ourselves thank [Applause] you our second speech will come from Chloe quas [Applause] parents families teachers students and administration good morning and welcome my name is Chloe quas and I'm confused this is because a second ago I was a kindergarten until the last nine years of my life rocketed past me

now simultaneously incomprehensible and soundless blur of birthday cakes and play dates and card games during recess and swimming violently around to where I am today right now standing here with a whiplashing confusion how could it be possible to so much time just spontaneously slip through my fingers it's easy absence rendering myself and my classmates incredulous it's possible because all of our immeasurably supportive teachers and administration members have made it possible with their faith and patience teachers have propped open doors for us students that would have otherwise remained sealed of R all the while never asking for any praise for their genuine dedication with their vigilance and practice tolerance administrators have incessantly diffused problems and Chaos in our school and have provided immense support and guidance all behind the scenes without requesting recognition this school is

composed of people who eventually become family and I'm proud to say that I've made many memories with them I remember for example the last day of fifth grade Splash day to me has always felt chaotic in the best way possible it's the last day of school and you always feel unhinged and unrestrained with a seemingly infinite expanse of a blank summer stretched out in front of you any problem or mistake you could make in the present moment seems minuscule inject position it's the last day so you might as well say every last dumb hilarious or nonsensical thing that's ever threatened to escape your mind on the last day of fifth grade my friend group at the time after scrambling to get watermelon cubes and Capri Suns from the Pod flopped down mellow dramatically outside in

the playground and collectively made a sort of promise to each other we said that we would try to always stay friends in Middle School even if we had no classes together as a fifth grader and other and under the Blissful beating sun with only laughter and sugar flies humming in the air our oath seemed promising realistic even but despite how stor were hold I thought I had friendship wise our pack would indefinitely come change come Middle School some of us stayed friends some of us didn't most of us would rarely think back to who we had been friends with in any of the younger years much less F maybe none of my grades even remember that last but I think that it doesn't matter if anyone remembers it or not and I think it doesn't

matter if all or none of us even stayed close I think it only matters that it happened regardless of who or how long anyone will remember it because we have all had that moment you were friends that happened the same applies to every good memory of anyone's past the same also applies to any bad memory of anyone's past in middle school for example I experienced a few misadventured moments that I chose to forget but that I know now guided me in the long run i' finally escaped elementary school and left over the canyon separating fifth grade from sixth Middle School was different from ele obviously by two my first two years in middle school I navigated the unpredictable and erratic Waters of the place with my eyes closed by that I mean that instead of

choosing to stand up to anyone who said something that I knew was wrong I chose to block it out of my mind however over the years I think that myself and my classmates have acquired many skills for example we began speaking with more confidence and pride and learned various important things from various experiences along the way I'm proud to have learned that the ability to voice what you believe in is a crucial part of becoming Who You Are I definitely have my parents to thank for that I have my parents to thank for everything horse riding lessons when I was five strategically planned gifts on Christmas birthday tea parties and jumping castles in backyards my mom and dad built everything from the ground up just so my sister and I could live in a castle

more than that though my parents gave me memories my sister and Mom and I scream singing Justin Timberlake songs in the car sunlight flooding in through cracked open car windows the whizzing sound of casting a fishing pole into the golden line Horizon of a lake as my dad animatedly told stories my gales of laughter scaring any hopes of cashing a soulfish away spontaneous trips Circle Cave for a single bag of stale but worth it goldfish in chaotic karaoke parties where more deranged laughing was done than actual singing small moments never forgotten add up now to what I remember as my childhood and I know wholeheartedly that my parents gave me not just piles of books or journals to write in but un adul trated to love that never went unfelt and now High School's ahead

of myself and my classmates some of us feel excited some of us feel apprehensive but I know one thing we're prepared even if it's only a little because of what we've learned on our way up in kindergarten we learned how to make friends in third grade we learned how to lose them in fifth grade we learned how to pick the right friends and in sixth grade we learned the which on classified as right to change in e8th grade I learn that it's not always a bad idea to speak up for what you know is right and wrong I feel it would be fitting to make one last SP they promise to ourselves for our new future I promise to use what we've learned over the years whether that be this cerence of a circle for

the strength to stand up for something you care deeply about and apply it to our lives use use it to figure out what kind of a person we want to be and who we want to tell the world we are I'm immensely grateful for the past nine years of my life in school because in it I learned infinitely more than counting or the alphabet I learned how to be a person and then I learned how to become a better one thank you for your time [Applause] our final speech will be given by AA [Applause] Ramos good morning ladies and gentlemen parents and family and friends and honored guests welcome to the class of 2028 8th grade promotion this thing called life can be hard it has its highs and its lows its imperfections and its

flaws and that's what makes it so beautiful in the first couple years of a child's life they learned the simple things like how to walk how to tie our shoes and even how to color inside the lines of a picture and these early moments we are continually learning and sometimes even having the feeling of wanting to grow up somewhere in your life I'm sure you have heard things like how they can't wait to grow up and become adults little do they know in their future it's just around the corner but it's much closer than it seems now that things seem to be coming to an end I've realized some things I've learned that this the end of middle school is not the end but just a new beginning most of eighth grade class that you

see here today have started their Journeys right here at Continental although I not one of those students who began my journey here I was lucky enough to attend my middle school years here in those years my classmates and I have met some amazing teachers and staff that have helped us along this path I would like to thank all of the teachers and staff that surround us and a special thank you to some of our eighth grade teachers thank you to Mrs Fanny for having patience with me and my peers and teaching us so many new things each and every day we stepped on campus thank you to Mrs dece for always being there to lift our Spirits when it's needed most and thank you for all the new things that you have taught us and

for putting your heart and soul into what you do thank you Mr Fox for helping us expand our minds in everything we do and thank you for your patience and all the love that you have shown us on the days that we have need deserved it thank you to Mr Vance for teaching us so much this year and for helping us create some of the best memories with you and your class we will miss you so much thank you to miss hatch for your loving heart and your warm smile that makes us love you all the more thank you for all your patience and kindness for helping us become more like you last but not least I'd like to thank Mr pman for all the times that you pushed us to be the best we

can be even when we feel like we can thank you for all the times you made us laugh and that you made us smile all the moments we've spent with you will be cherished forever there's so much more to say but all I can say is that you've all done so much for us and brought us all so far we cannot be more thankful for what you have helped us accomplish we'll miss you all dearly thank you for all the great amazing memories after today our time here at Continental is finished we will go on to high school and do so many amazing things thanks to you remember this is not the end of our stories but the beginning of a new chapter thank you [Applause] next we have Awards and recognitions the first the

first award is the Kate civil science award is presented by Mr Marcel Fox [Applause] good morning I wish I could give this award to many many kids but I unfortunately had to just pick one um and I am pleased to give this Kate cilly science award to miss Macy Hansen [Applause] Macy has been an amazing student in my class she always performs very well and has definitely shown that she has learned a lot this year and thank you for all you have done in my class this year I appreciate you and here with your [Applause] [Music] gift next we have the athletes of the Year Award presented by Mr Steven [Applause] L all right one thing I'd like to do before I start this is can you please stand up if you participated in one

sport this year [Applause] can you please stand up if you participated in two or more Sports this year okay have a seat can you please stand up if you've done three Sports this [Applause] year and then for those that have done four Sports this year [Applause] go ahead and have a seat thank you I like to do that because it shows that these we call them student athletes right their students first participating in a sport is extracurricular and it takes a lot of effort to keep your grades up but then it takes a lot of effort when we're traveling twice a week when you're you know on the road and you're not getting home until 9:30 10 o' at night but you're expected to be back at school at 8 with your homework done and

so these athletes all of them deserve a big round of [Applause] applause having said that every year we pick the athlete of the Year award someone that represents not just our teams but our entire school this I'm going to start with our girl athlete of the Year award this girl participated in four Sports all year long this girl was a part of the soccer team and a huge part of the defense tenacious is what coach called it as a sixth grader this girl made it on the 18 with not a lot of athletic ability as far as skills in basketball but her speed and in unwillingness to lose led her as a sixth grader to be a leader on the championship team that demolished Emily Gray in our home cour this girl was the number

two in interceptions for our football team this girl was the only girl on her team and started this girl has no quit in her and we'll go above and beyond to help her teammates as long as as well as herself to be the best that they can be Win Lose or Draw pton Johnson please come on [Applause] did I fell mention her dad's been very proud of every game for our male athlete of the year a award according to the coaches and myself the talent and coachability is unmatched we've had a lot of athletes come through here that are amazing athletic ability sometimes that comes with an attitude that was not the case this year the focus and the ability to always be a nice guy when you're winning or losing let his teammates to

love and respect him at all times this athlete scored the most points for the boys track team who ended up getting first place overall this year this athlete also led the football team in tackles and sacks the other team would always try to run the ball away from this athlete because if they didn't they would get lost yards and if you didn't make the connection pton was second best to this individual to tell you what kind of ability both of them have Isaiah noar please come for [Applause] the next award is the the lover Awards is presented by americ Glover [Applause] hello everyone my name is Mary Glover my husband and I set up this award when our son passed away in 2008 at the age of 8 years old desan was a student at

Continental school and had a rough start in life he believed in second chances so much so that when he was adopted by us he chose chance to be his middle name desan was known for his friendly disposition his kind and caring nature influenced everyone he knew his infectious smile resulted in him having many friends it's in his H it's in his honor this friendly and kind spirit that each year the St a continental select two recipients to receive the desan Glover award this year we are proud to award these two students may you always believe in yourself and help others along the way I would like to say congratulations to Emma Ray [Applause] the second student would be Wyatt coranza [Applause] thank [Applause] you the next award will be the most improved Award presented by

Mrs Wendy panning [Applause] good morning okay what we try to do here at Continental is we try to bring out the best and our students through tough love high expectations encouragement and hopefully the relationships be developed with them our goal is to get these students ready for their next adventure which is High School they are ready and I'm pleased to say that almost everyone here in this promoting class has shown their best and improved this year at the beginning of this year this student we've selected faced challenges that might have seemed insurmountable whether it was struggling with academics or finding their place among their peers or navigating personal obstacles they encountered moments that tested the resol but instead of giving up they chose to embrace these challenges as opportunities for for growth their story is

a powerful reminder that Improvement is not about where you start but about the journey you Undertake and the person you become along the way it is my great pleasure sorry to do this to present the award for most approved student to Calypso Rick [Music] [Applause] the next award is the GV Kanis clever wordss is presented by Mr Alan Hutton [Applause] okay okay okay um well let you say a few words first I'm pleased to be here on behalf of the qu Club of Green Valley uh we support the builders Club here and the motto of aanus is helping the children of the world and this is one way we do it here to honor uh these wonderful young people as they move on to the next chapter of their lives so when we look at

the requirements of what our kananian would like to recognize in our students we look for five things scholarship which is the consistent preparation for an attention to Scholastic work attitude which is polite and consider someone who is polite and considerate of authorities their peers and Property Service those people who are readily and willingly um to volunteer and assist and goals people who have begun to make plans for their life and the fifth one is presentation um just that these children take pride in how they present themselves day in and day out so it is with great pleasure that we are recognizing today Mr Tyler white watka and Miss Chloe TR [Applause] stay up here because I'm next again anyway so um our next are the Continental teacher Awards so we have two young people that

we will be recognizing for this award um the Continental teachers awards one of our favorite things to do we literally sit in a room at the end of the year and talk about all of you um so um but what we really truly do is um we look at the positive attributes of our students stud and see who has truly set themselves um apart from the group at large and so for the Continental teachers award we look for those students who on a daily basis show kindness Integrity honesty responsibility dedication and who demonstrate hard work inside the classroom as well as everything they do outside of the classroom um the two individuals selected today for this award have done that since day one of the school year um it has been an absolute privilege and

honor to work with these very deserving individuals and they do our school and our student EMB body proud so it's clearly evident how well respected these two students are by both their peers and the faculty at Continental so we would like to congratulate Miss kylin Lane and Mr L [Applause] [Music] [Applause] R the next award is the Optimus Club award is presented by Mr Kevin Ro and Mr Steven [Applause] L thank you very much the optimists are happy to be here again uh this is what our fifth six fifth year uh that we presented award to a young person uh that's been selected by the teachers that represents uh optimism and uh and the the willingness to improve themselves uh we spend uh well the talk all morning has been how fast everything goes and

it seems like just last yesterday Steve and I were up here presenting again so but in that 365 days the optimists have been working to uh raise money and uh and give back to the the kids that's our mission is to support the kids in the local area so uh Stephen if you want to talk about the person that's been selected well I I promise this will be the last time you'll see me up here I was expecting Kevin to talk about what he really calls this award he he calls it The Comeback Kid and What the optimists are is they're a group of individuals in our community that really they work hard and they just do community service and they pour right back into the schools to the sporting events to support the youth

and so when our team of teachers got together I walked in in the meeting that Mrs Fanny was talking about about the last five minutes because I was driving a school bus and they they were talking about who it should be and so I'm going to talk a little bit about this student this student has not always been an easy student to deal with this student has had a rough road they have find found themselves not always choosing the right path The Comeback Kid really strikes home to me because I view myself as a comeback kid I had a rough childhood made a lot of bad choices was angry didn't know why I had great parents so as I watch this student and last year because of their choices were not allowed to participate Splash

day but Mr laan assigned them to do community service for their peers so they met me here early in the morning helped set up for Splash day and stayed and helped take down from Splash day last year I was as many of you know I'm the athletic director and I love sports I love the underdog stories those are my favorite right when some college that nobody even knows comes out of nowhere and beats the number one seat team those are the games to watch sometimes and usually that Victory doesn't happen until the last minute or the last play of the game this student has kept us all waiting in anticipation and about in January we started to see a change this student walked up to me earlier this week and said Mr Wan I'm not

in trouble but can I come and help set up and take down for Splash day this is a kid who's changing who's becoming a a comeback kid but my hope is a comeback adult someday this is an Optimus this award is not the end but yet rather a recognition of you choosing to continue down a path of making good choices and serving others lyric Aldridge please come up and accept this challenge to keep putting your best up for [Applause] the next award is the parent teacher Club Awards presented by Mrs Holly [Applause] W all right let's see I have three Awards they are chosen by the teachers they are for the greatest achievement for those that have been here from kindergarten to 8th grade the highest GPA and outstanding pult and the three that we

have chosen is noelli telon [Applause] fur for GR [Applause] Isaiah Nar for outstanding cult and K for highest GPA [Applause] the next award is the consal foundation Awards this is presented by Mrs Bonnie CL and Mrs Julie [Applause] CI good morning uh so glad to be here Julie this is Bonnie clar with the Continental School District Educational Foundation and today we are here to first present uh first acknowledge to students this is the first year that we've had uh student Representatives on our foundation board meetings once a month and these students come and they tell us what's going on at school and um they're articulate and smart and um anyway it's great to just kind of be connected with the students and so first I would like to recognize we'd like to recognize Chloe [Music]

quas and Wyatt [Applause] har okay next we also have three Awards uh certificates that we would like to present the first one is for academic achievement and that goes to Sophie van [Applause] hori Sophie is a phenomenal student with outstanding work ethic she's very bright and willing to help her peers she is never afraid to step out of her comfort zone and always has a smile on her face okay the next word the next award is for outstanding service and this is the Jim and Donna pich award and i' just like to say about this award that this was a a couple who supported our foundation kind of silently for 25 years they didn't have kids that went to school here they're not from here but they just saw this uh Beacon small school here

promote so thank [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you our next award is the Mason Taylor Music Award presented by Mrs Cynthia bti [Applause] hello everyone so for those of you that don't know me my name is Cynthia bti and I'm one of the music directors here at Continental I'm really excited to be here today to present the Mason Taylor Music musician of the Year award before I go into that though I would like to ask if you were in a music Ensemble this year please stand [Music] up so as you can tell there are quite a few musicians up here today which means it was extremely difficult picking just one for this award so it was a wellth thought out decision took a lot of time to really think about which student up here gets this

musician award so the individual that will be receiving this this award has demonstrated Superior musicianship and outstanding dedication in their music ensembles and today Mr lean brought up a little bit about challenges I didn't know he was going to bring up that word but Challenge and um creating challenges for others in the sense so when I think of this individual I think of maturity and maturity is realizing how your actions impact others so you can create challenges for others or you can support others and in this with this individual they've realized how their actions in their role in their Ensemble have really helped or hurt the people around them and in this case they've helped and they've supported the others the other musicians in their group they've really grown a lot as far as a

musician goes and demonstrated maturity this year throughout the past few years I've had the privilege of watching this student grow in their knowledge of music as well was an individual this year we went to multiple music festivals through aboda and na Jazz and um at these festivals these students receive certain feedback from clinicians and I can say that in these in the feedback we get to go back and listen to it and every time we listen to the feedback the student was brought up they were brought up and they were compared to musicians of the high school level so um really proud of this student in that sense in their music ensembles the student has demonstrated dedication towards music with the effort they put into their performance and learning opportunities so I've seen them go
