005dinner is going to be in the other room and there's a table set up for us that'll be ready um at 6 o' okay 600 to 6:30 and then um we are going to wrap up with our board self evaluation um after dinner so everybody else can go and then we'll just need like five five seven minutes to talk about the board he valuation is need that um if not we will adj because we know the Diamond Backs are playing and it's at 5:00 so we'll kind have some just keep on okay bathrooms are right around the corner out this door to the net and then they're on the right hand side so we're going to start out with um basic information so Greg you can that slide so our budget for last year was

0067.6 million our budget this year is 5.6 million now we got our budge 25 report in today um that's saying that ad says say our budget should be 5 5,640 um there's an issue with Transportation miles so once we get that fixed we should be right back at our 5.63 3 million um we're right now we're looking at expenses this year at 5.4 with 145,50 carrying over into the upcoming school year so if we're looking at what we proposed at this meeting last year we proposed A 5.6 so we're pretty 5,629 so we're really really close to that number um we lost our high school tuition due to the changes of how that is all paid out so that decreased our budget by 1.9 million and we did have our 15% medical expenses increase so

007that 15% increase was 49151 now this year we are still picking up all three plans for all of the employees that want it but that may change with the upcoming years we'll have to look and see how things go with that so back to our M with that 5.6 million that is where we pay our salaries our supplies our travel our professional development any utilities so that's our electrical that's our water that's our internet capital is 556987627 specific student programmatic needs and it is $16,988 16,000 from last year and they have been decreasing every year since my sevene tenure here at Continental so with title we receive 103,000 and we pay a third of the reading specialist salary and benefits that's a bul of that's a good chunk of that money we used to pay

008half of that salary and we had to decrease it to a third um I think this is our second year that we've been doing a third um our summer academic enrichment so summer school comes out of this fund and we budget for seven teachers um avid conference registration travel for six teachers and four administrators has come out of Title One our me now Institute where we pay for Dian and Steve to attend we now which is a mentoring program for administrators through um County soups office and then um we pay our Wi-Fi hotspots laminator of IT Supplies our homeless set aside and postage so they make us put money in the homeless set aside even though we don't have a large number of homeless kids but we still have to budget for them for supplies

009that they may need um and then we have to send newsletters out for Title One purposes so we include poage in that um title 2A is improving teacher quality so we received $30,000 out of title 2A and a third of the salary and benefits are for our instructional technology teacher just miss to we used it this year to buy our depth of knowledge flip books and we have um put in for PD professional development 3000 we did budget that money to work witha in terms of us being able to tap in to their professional development because they do have an extensive professional development catalog which um we haven't had a lot of teachers buy into that so money is there and I'll tell you how we think we may have to reallocate it for something

010else that we need um title four is student support and academic enrichment so we receive $10,000 and that pays for our three summer enrichment teachers so you see with the seven teachers from Title One and the three from title four then we have 10 teachers that we can um have for summer school Ida is 144 ,000 so we have a special Le portion of Ida and a special education portion so sped J bed is 141,000 which we have for um salaries which pays for mind's salary we have one programmatic assistant and half of the Spence records Clerk before we were able to pay for we had like in the course of the years we've been deting we had six parol seven you know 543 now we only have one because of the budget and then

011half of the SPs record SP records Clerk is there um we also use it for conferences Mindy is taking part in the energized program which is similar to the lead now for administrators it's for special ed Stu uh special ed students for special ed directors and preschool special ed so this year we added Dr Robinson on to specialed it focuses on special education leadership so so they're participating in that and supplies again which is um there for special ed preschool we get a little tiny amount of 3,000 and we um use 3,000 for Maggie's quality time which um provides sensory activities for preschool so she comes in how often she comes in twice a month twice a month um and Works in our preschool our school safety expansion grant that we had put in for

012um two years ago is 25,000 which was an increase of 1,257 from the previous year the second position has not been approved yet one counselor and one part-time counselor salary and benefits so that's out of that safety school extension Grant where we would not be able to have um the additional uh middle school counselor is supposed to be coming out of this fund as well they increase the funding so we need to look into why that has not been released yet so the total grants received for the year are 262,000 so these are title grants so remember when we talk about all these programs and people wonder you know well why can't we just use this 262,000 for raises for jet that specific to the guidelines on what we can spend these funds on a

013reduction of 106,000 is that state fed those um these are all federal gr so this is okay so there was we've had conversations on funds so I just quickly wanted to see here we have a zero balance in the S one and S 2 we have $118 and in answerer three we have 124,000 what we are looking at doing is doing a journal entry um because it was for uh to cover the sickly for teachers so we had put in for teachers and benefits so if we do a journal entry it'll free up money for M for potential raises for staff this year on on which fund on sr3 funding so we can we can journal entry that 124 we can from our M budget we can code it to S3 and it'll be a

014zero balance in S3 and that frees up the 124 for potential raises if that's what we decide to do but does that have to be you have to find a new source of that 125 Grand the following year right that's going to be done right right so if if you allocate the 125 grand for raises better find us somewhere else well we either say we have no raises next year or whatever we decide to do in our budget and the 50,000 there for principal and director of student services is their salary paid no so what happened was for sther one that funding was used for us to be able to do whatever we needed to do to prepare for Co when we had to get the classrooms ready and and so we paid a stip

015in not St we journaled out the principal and the assistant principal salaries because what do you mean so we took the $50,000 that we had already spent in salaries and benefits with Miss clis and and then we replaced it with that to one money so it put that money back so this mon you can move around on like the grant M the some degree the some degree depends on so like we're talking about the journal entry for Esser 3 it is specifically written in our grant for it to cover teacher sick Le okay we haven't had to use that because our teachers haven't run out of sickly or we haven't had hardly anybody that's run out of sickly but what we can do is we can Journal that just like we did with the sr1

016funds and it frees up that that M money again you spent some districts use that sr3 funding to give teachers a retention stien who came back after Co right so what they kept saying when you kept hearing oh we're getting a retention stepen to return they and that's what we did with Esser too you can see the 148,000 return return to work sens DS I just a few years ago that was worded like that and teachers thought we got paid $50,000 over the summer I do not I just want to clarify that that's not what that is because that ends up you know I just want that on the record because it gets that's how it looks and that's how the way it's worded it's like working on conting planet over the summer 50,000 to

017us we it wasn't like that was can I ask for further clarification on that Greg is this referring to this summer or three years ago summer when that s fund was originally presented to the entire staff that we made 50,000 years ago yeah okay in future presentations because this has come up and it raises eyebrows all over the place and makes us look really bad to our staff that needs to be dated and explained much clearer because up there it looks like we're going to take split it in half $25,000 jobs and that is not happen yeah we think we'll we'll do that does a great explanation every time it comes up but it keeps coming up at public meetings that it's not good for us so this so the purpose of this presentation was

018to catch everybody else up it's not necessarily what we're going to what we're going to present to teachers yeah I understand but once again we're in a public meeting presented it needs to be presented as the explanation every time not what it says can I go back to what Andrew said so if you move that 125 over now you've got at least in this year's budget that much more to enhance hours and when 2425 comes up got you got you're short so it's already looking with the way healthc care is going that I am not going to be able to pick up every single person's insurance you know we were able to do that for two years and we may be going back to just picking up the lowest cost time so that itself would

019free up over half of that my only point was is I just don't want to say well the money's there let's just spend it on increases but then not be able to support those increases year two or three down the road that was my if we can great but yeah that's part of our charge right for today okay so our additional Grant funds as you know we've received white elephant funds the foundation and the bi rotary grants that support a lot of our special projects that we have at our school so we're grateful for all that they do to support us regularly that last phase of the musical Gard I know we have the money if we ordered the stuff what's left to do install it that was through the through the Kern Foundation yeah

020the money that we received from the Kern foundation and I'm not sure that we' received it I haven't I don't think we've received it because the foundation got like 18,000 okay I don't think that we've received it yet that was at least a month um so our current balance in tax credit is 247,000 so you can just see there what we um receive and what we have extended every year we all need to realize how fortunate we are to have we are super super fortunate and again our clubs our Sports and our tutorials and today we talked to our teachers about having to be more deliberate in that ret section of who's being retaught and again if we have more of a need we know we have that money available for specific tutorials for additional

021students that are just Tater towards specific standards what do you guys using this money the tax credit money on like what I stains all of our clubs all of our Sports and all our tutorials that's we pay sponsors for um Club sponsors we paid the tutors for tutoring we paid for field trips out of it um a lot of that money is is sitting in with Civics for the Washington DC trip was unifor cegs and we just received um some additional Community member support for UNS how much are they giving us Steve for unicorns it's complicated because it's broken up into years of donations but what they're allowed to do is they're doing their donations as a couple which is 400 and then their workplace GRE cck from wrong is doubling that so one of

022them works for um caterpillar the other one works for the mine and the mines and Cat will both match they're and so we're not looking at like a huge chunk of money it's literally going to be like 16 1600 bucks to yeah and then it'll be here and then they're going to do that again after January one wait a year and do that again so it's coming in slowly um but at the fall Carnival we have the Optimus club that always does the food there and gives 100% of those donations so we're putting funds together to get we're starting with the soccer teams to get new forms for them um um and then from there we're going to get increase the number of track uniforms as we had close to 80 kids in the track

023team last school year um and obviously we've never had that need before so they were wearing a really old track uniform wasn't there a large chunk of money in the uniform allocated box I'm not aware of the uniform allocated box that you speak of the majority of the tax credit the truth of the matter is what's what's earmarked for athletics doesn't meet the stiens of all the coaches that we have since there's a lot of coaches to run the athletic program um that's taken out of the other amount at the end the money that we do have that we use for officials and things like that is generally generated from remember there's a $25 participation fee so that fee typically is what covers the um Athletics and anything left over correct grade in that account

024we also use for uniforms when I come and ask and so we kind of pull from all those different accounts to cover uniforms because not one is singly enough you know the parents that I met with we talked about prices and they were thinking oh a uniform is going to cost 15 to 25 bucks for an entire set you're looking at the cheapest right now is about $80 to 90 for a cheap set and so they're like wow our $400 per person times what our companies were pitching in really cover it like they thought it would but using the other pools and the funds we have and with their help we think that we can by the end of the school year get at least those three Sports taken care of by the summer so

025it goes back to even if we've budgeted the money it's like what is the actual need right and we we go back to you know are we going to just deplete the money on Sports when we need to make sure that we can sustain our clubs and our tutorials every year so it's kind of is even though the money is [Music] allocated people allocate where they want that money to go but but we have very few people say school uniforms because tax credit yeah because tax credit is supposed to be for extra curricular activities when the tax credit it's it's 5050 50% of are going to come in for undesignated so they said just use it as you need it the other 50% come in ear Mark for music they come in for athletics for

026f so so it just so for like four special projects we could they you could tap into the undesignated balance also that's approved by the principal so if we really needed uniforms or whatever you know a club sponsor could propose it and we could get that funding for that so what what we want to start doing also and I um we talked to some of our club sponsors about developing a letter where students can start to make some calls or sending it out to family members or they can say support cross country um so that we can do y yada right to start to increase that tax um credit funds because a lot of people still don't know about it imagine if they knew about it what our what our fing our balance would be

027like the especially the Civics kids from DC so that they wouldn't have to do so so many fundraisers right to get there great you want to tap on this all right so within just the M budget um not including transportation we budgeted $5.1 million right right now 4.6 has been expended or it's either encumbered with $451,000 remaining so that means right now we've got $451,000 that we haven't allotted to something else within transportation we budgeted 484000 and we've already spent or encumbered 412 which gives us 71,000 left um now a good chunk of that 71,000 is going to be eaten up with diesel fuel within food service we budgeted 54,000 we've spent 300 with $214,000 remain um we recently also within Food Service just purchased a new um four burner uh cooktop and with that

028we have to redo our fire suppression system because it was only rated for a two burner so we have to get new fire suppression system put in and a big bigger tank put in as well so so and that's all in the works and when you say encumber say Transportation that's enough so when I go the rest of the year so when I say incumbered it's I budgeted $300,000 for salaries right I've only spent 120 yeah the balance is what's the incumber amount yeah the balance that you expect to spend between now now and the end of the year yes so when we talk about M and we look at that 400 51 remaining is are we saying that we're going to be taking the rest of the school year salaries out of that amount

029or that's already in budget in order to do raises that is where it would have to come out but current existing salaries are already bud yes the current existing salaries are in 5.1 yes I just want to make sure that everybody understands that so in capital we bud bu our our budget was 556 908 so far we spent $452 leaving us $104,000 left a big chunk of that um $186,000 of that is our bus payment on the expended yes would you say 186 186,000 and that's for the next we' got two and a half years three four years left this is year two yeah we have we're talking new buses right they're released to owns right yes so on the remain again it hasn't been encumbered it's just it's just sitting there waiting to be

030spent or rolled over for the upcoming okay and how much do you usually roll over within Capital with it being such a small amount to begin with we generally don't have a whole lot that gets rolled over we did spend a lot of money at the beginning of the school year on furniture with new tables new desks new chairs so we did spend quite a a good siiz chunk I want to say what 45,000 we did five classrooms worth of desks and chairs and I want to say two classrooms with tables so close to right around $45,000 is what we spent just in furniture so when you budgeted that money in ml you were expecting to pay that amount and then you didn't end up paying you have 41,000 left like why is there a

031large um balance so it's sitting in places like supplies there's there's excess sitting within um benefits so that once needs come come up so if I needed to add another teacher tomorrow I can pull that money and pay for a brand new teacher if Mr if something happened to our bus Fleep and Mr Lane couldn't didn't have any money left in transportation for fuel I can still pay for fuel out of M by moving some that remaining funding into transportation to purchase Visa and also so because we don't give raises in the summer for fall so we we've been asking our teachers to hold off until January to see where we are with ouro we use what we have remaining to determine the raise for the year because the the the minimum wage increase this

032year is 30 and a half% so we'll get to that so I went we went through and we kind of identify current needs based on what directors ask for what board questions um board is asking for clarification on so when we look at Transportation a book of the conversation has been that we need to give our drivers a raise so we have our bus driers starting at 14 we have 14 employees coded to Transportation the average salary is 1633 so the salaries range from $14 an hour to 2129 an hour so 2129 been there for forever yes so it's not like all of our drivers are at $14 right so the average salary is 1633 so that does not include the salary of our um trainer or director um we are between five andeven behind

033everybody else and just bus drivers but but to be fair what three years ago we were ahead of everything else so yeah so what's happened the last few years is now you've got compression within the transportation budget so everybody else so come January one you're going to have a playground monitor coming at the same rate as as a brand new bus driver where it used to be $2 to3 more to start um when I started five years ago we were $2 above Serita now we're almost $6 so the compression with the minimum wage everything changing we haven't made adjustments to starting salar with trans now and R was in the same boat so they were all low and then they weren't getting people to drive for both districts and so all of a sudden they

034jacked it up it wasn't enough they jacked it up again and very quickly we went from the top where everyone wanted to work to no longer the same are a to increase that all those numbers don't reflect do that have benefits medical that is just salary That's not including any benefit how many get three drivers are full time that are receiving benefits right now which translat fall apart how much 28% of whatever salary [Music] is as far as St can we go over Staffing or just who's the fact that so on on paper when you look at it Transportation staff positions are full but I have one one driver who was on IC and we're still in limbo and as far as what's going on with with that with that driver I have two drivers

035in training so technically there the spots are full but if the two drivers don't make it through training and they don't pass then we're back to the same position where we were trying to get drivers so with that um I was late to the meeting today because I'm driving so I'm driving every day Le I'm trying to keep lean to where he can take care of his main position but he's usually giving me one or two days uh Roxy and litaa are every single day still so they food service but the reason why you have you're driving or the driving is because we have drivers in train yes yeah and then I've got drivers who have recently passed but with commitments can't do certain days I have two drivers who we BR we we brought

036on who are both going to be pilots and their pilot training starts in March so that we go back into this thing and trying to figure out come come March again but right now it's getting a little bit of a breath but it still takes away getting it getting to work at 5:30 in the morning going home at 6 6:30 in the afternoon so it's it's getting and then you got l i mean then the Saving Grace would be late in an high salary um but you got L and Roxy Who as soon as they clock out from there have another hour and a half bus driving and that's an hour and a half overtime that goes into the budget which takes the money out there well so we're paying them overtime and so we

037could have a full-time person have their position and pay them more than 14 bucks an hour if they were available if we could find people yeah but if we were paying more than 14 bucks an hour we could probably find people have better yeah I got I get probably four phone calls a day from different different agencies different school districts of drivers asking they want to come work at Continental they want to come work at Continental but they can't take the pay that's that's their thing what are they expecting what have for them where I mean I got people from s who want to come over and work but I can't yeah I don't know what I 19 I think is I have friend who just started I mean I lost Drive the five five

038five drivers over summer break that were coming to us that ended up going to Serita Sunnyside Tucson and Bale and R and they all pay it's all pay like all that 20 bucks how much are we paying in over time that we could be I mean I know it's only hour and a half for that particular person a day that's time a half do you pay time and a half for overtime yes so and also the bigger need is looking at possibly having to do staggered start and dismissal times Elementary Middle School the buses are crowed we have a lot of discipline problems happening on the buses you have middle school kids that are influencing younger students we have just a lot going on and we're glad that we have um the cameras but really

039we're very fortunate that up to this point we've been able to transport all students during Sports it frees up a little bit more room on the buses Wednesdays were overloaded because we don't have sports on Wednesdays but we really have to look at that'll increase your budget for fuel and St needs also and having five six year olds on the same bus as 13 year olds I like the concept of separating themin right so we have to that's like we have to look at pros and cons right because what's I mean we're I think we're very fortunate that we haven't had more parents say no we do not want our elementary school kids on buses with these middle school students um when you look at bus footage it's really scary because you can't yes they're

040three they're they're squished in there the seats are high for safety it's hard to see what's going on so you know that's just something to think about because we are we are well over our hours in the number of hours that elementary school kids have to be in school typically it's 8 to two ours go till 3 so they're getting an hour more um so we just that'll just be that as we grow and we don't have drivers and we either you know we do turnaround routes where we kids have to wait so that's just something we're gonna have to monitor closely as well miss R if I can add to that she talked about a lot of the concerns that we have we have done things to minimize those behaviors so one of the

041things that we've done starting at the beginning of school year was add AG or programmatic assistance that are writing so that's super unique that most districts do not provide that is a sell Point that's why drivers want to come work for Continental School we've heard that of we hear that you have supervision on the buses as well because usually it's the drivers in charge of driving safely and all the discipline on the bus where we've been able to increase that um and that has greatly reduced the amount of behaviors this year compared to past year so we have seen a huge we are seeing some Behavior things on the bus and we can't have every single day the monitors ride because when they're out we don't have a subir etc and on those days seem

042to be the days that probably the last week and a half we've seen the problems that we've had in the office have been because I did because route five and six are doing both continental and high school so there's not an aid on the bus in the afternoon the last couple weeks has been much we had our it's literally the buses that don't have that second adult or the one with the issues but we have seen a huge decrease I believe in Transportation issues since having an additional adult writing and walking the aisles keeping people separated that kind stuff our monitors on that very amazing and obviously that's impacting our budget right but we in order to I you said it it eliminates the stress for the drivers I and it makes the kids know

043that somebody's watching them with not these eyes and correct me if I'm wrong but that took most of those staff members from about 37 hours um to just slightly under 40 So within a half an hour of 40 is is how we work that and we've worked with Mr Lane to schedule that so that they're not over getting overtime all of them are still at their regular salary but I bump them and they're appreciative too so these staff members that work there runs off to try to make thems meet and don't get paid a lot it's a couple extra hours we for them which is super helpful for them as well these are lunch monitors help as well we have one lunch monitor who comes back every day I have one lunch monit that's every

044day I have one lunch monitor that is Monday Wednesday Friday um and the rest are that's an hour and a half long one of those lunch monitors covers that because we couldn't take one of our full-time programmatic asss and put in there because they put over time so we've got cre with the scheduling but it's been a huge benefit and that that route was one of our biggest behavior issues in the even with the Aid We're still we still have she can't because that Aid can't be everywhere and then as soon as she notices she goes and fixes it but by that point it's just is that is there salary in the transportation salary or is that totally separate I mean that up there is just drivers just drivers and where do we that money

045which month for extra extra supervision well all that extra money that we had set aside to hire extra pair of Pros as the year went on you know it eats into all General M yeah because some of these Cora only one is being paid out of our spend budget so even their Chet programmatic assistance that be paid out of our general operation and for that one we specifically put them on a bus with a short route because the relationship they're building with one of the students they work with during the day we continue that relationship onto the bus route um because theyve built a really good report with this particular individual so it's kind of an extension of what they're doing throughout the day as well but it's also the shortest R which is which

046is good okay so that's our current need and our concern second one is maintenance and grounds so we have a need for additional support So as we look into the cost of an additional employee we're looking at 40,000 a part-time person 20,000 assuming that it's $16 an hour okay and we have one only one we have one person right now and um we're looking at the cost for contract contract help quarterly to have someone coming in two times per month so we're looking um seeking estimates from local landscaping companies in Green Valley just to see take birie does have they I forget what company they're using but they do have a company for the whole entire district and they pay $120,000 a year servicing five or six schools twice a week so we have a

047call out to um we called one company said they were not taking on any more people um Jenna left another message and then um Steve we talked about AA Landscaping no we it's a local family Local Company oh okay so s because I we have no idea what they would charge us to come help us twice a month in the grounds in the front and the sides so we're looking into that good I got so it was Sita and you have someone so you can just let me know okay so so um and we know with grounds alone I mean maintenance think about all the sfb projects that have been going up for maintaining the campus on leaks and things that break and having to be fixed and um responding during the day so I

048know that you know Mr marski is at his W's end in terms of trying to do grounds and maintenance um and a lot of them are high it's just difficult because you could almost have you know one full-time person two full-time grounds people and two full-time M People to maintain the needs of the school but we know that that's not possible um also this year I know that aside from pre- labor from the leens and the family you know we had Gary come out and helped what did Gary do he helped two days a week for originally when we were moving all the DK and chairs during the big summer push when we have to move classrooms we brought him in for a week to do that and then when he was done with that

049for the day Bob would take him for two to three hours and have them do um trim of the trees raking that sort of stuff outside and we agreed with Gary to do that for a week and then Bob asked for an additional week because it was so much B and asking can we have him come back but so we talked to Gary got him to come back for a second to do that but Steve was paying him out of his own pocket to college fund for help so do you see what I mean but it's like whatever it takes that's a prime example when we had the carnival we had our driver stay and volunteered that day to weed whack and clean up the front and the side so it's you know we had

050the day with the um e with the m Church coming in um to help but we definitely have to figure out either we get on a scheduled routine campus cleanliness Community Health that's what I was going to say you know I was part of the the church clean up and I was wondering you know can we do a call to the public when when they know that their church is going to be there I it kind of be beneficial for the school and the church to build that relationship to do a community day so they do their Community days though only right so then they try to spread the wealth as well we get it but so that's that's a need and a concern isn't that um kid that's Ran's age um me house wasn't

051his his n has started his own business it's called wild cat tree service but what he mainly does is the high Highline stuff okay like trimming the palm trees and stuff because I did think about we can give him a call I've got his number um but he also is bed out of Mirana okay forget it so I I have seen he's his girlfriend lives off road so he's down here every once a while but to my knowledge he's really focusing is his lure is for like it's very expensive because he's doing harnesses of in trees but we really don't have trees like that on our good thought I thought about that too but it's a little bit different what what does okay as we look at next me and concerned at our curriculum area

052so we talked um we've spoken about the ad and their unfunded mandates right so they mandated that we had to have a dyslexia screener that we had to have a trained um dyslexia expert on our campus teacher so we have one and we've added another one that's going to be going through the train um we did originally purchase amplify we spent $2,000 on that one um as a potential dyslexia screener and then we um piloted this other program through Amir which is a reading intervention and dyslexia screener so we just paid um almost $8,000 for that out of capital it's for our K3 students and our atrisk middle school students so we should be good with our dyslexia mandate from ad now we have every um our teachers have to have SE endorsements so we

053have 15 teachers that do not have sheltered English immersion endorsements so it's teachers who work with bilingual students or Spanish monolingual Spanish speaking students so now the state is requiring that everybody have an seci endorsement without funding giving us funding for it so ad had a um they approved some service providers so one provider that we contacted uh is would charge us $350 per teacher so if we had those 15 teachers trained it would be $5,000 um sunyside isn't approved they got their curriculum approved um to train their teachers so I've been talking to them about possibly doing anou and doing a 2500 to 3,000 flat rate where all the 15 teachers could go through their program the problem with that is what do you do if teachers don't want to take the courses like

054we were saying there's they have to we can pay for the training but they have to pay to get the seci endorsement on their certificate which is what $65 $60 $60 to get that endorsement added to their certificate but you have to have an SE endorsement if you're going to be teaching monal Spanish speaking students half of the teachers don't want to teach the mon Spanish speaking students so you have some teachers saying well if I don't have the endorsement then I don't have to teach those students right and the SE training the sheltered English immersion training really is best practices it's engagement strategies it's differentiating the instruction which is good for all students not just how long is it they're looking at I think sunnyside's doing um three Saturdays four three four hour or

055two Saturdays and it's 4 hour days plus they have homework in modules it's 45 hours okay that they need total so some of it is in person and some of it can be instruction with homework with the facilitators collecting one are the continued education do they do on top of the5 a year to keep up their LIC they have to do um normal professional developments at the end of the isn't it three years they have to submit so many hours that they've completed um for that this kind of be the same thing I mean I know but this is not I mean the school make it I mean are you going to give them the option to do it or not do it well we they're not we have to have a plan so as

056long as we have a plan that we submit to the state that says this is our plan to get these 15 teachers certified and we also have to make sure that incoming teachers have seci endorsements as well um but as you know we have teachers who are on emergency certificates who I mean they need so much more than just an SII course to get their certifications of to part how many teachers do we have on the emergency probably about five or six W that's a lot and roughly how many students are we talking about that they're serving for El kids I mean 17 19 El kids on Nina's roster about 25 25 but keep in mind most of those kids when we made their schedule boss and I we intentionally try to put as many

057of them with those teachers that are our SEI certified it's not 100% because the state does allow some leniencies as they're provisional and they're working on getting it we have to have a plan according to the state and that's what we've been working with we talked about the two options there we've talked to the state and they consider that a plan so once we approve that plan we're we're so what am I missing here you've got roughly 25 kids and you've got 15 teachers that need because it's all various ages is that why yeah because they're all different ages and they're in different class two of this age yes so they're sprinkles across the school some in middle school and all the teachers so all teachers need to have that se endorsement so so when

058you said that some of them don't want to get that endorsement they don't have a choice well they don't have so it goes back to that concept well what what's going to change if we don't are we fire them because there's a teacher shortage we can't even get certified teachers to come in right required we haven't had anyone at our site that has said that that's a thing across the state but at our site no one has told us there's been no teacher that's come up and said I don't want that kid I'm not I want to be very clear with that yeah we have there's assumptions that some people may think there's assumptions people may think that no not our teach but I don't think that we've actually talk to these 15 teachers to

059say you need to have an SE endorsement this is the plan this is what we're proposing to help you get so I'm just thinking budget wise what we need to pay for because we did have a conversation where teachers some teachers are going to have to would like Greg's dream wish would be teachers pay their own $350 to be trained well that's not going to happen but it's a mandate when it's a state mandate I just want this is the conversation we had because if it's required for you to teach like when teachers have to take the Arizona Constitution or the US History we don't pay for that they pay for it and they need it in order to get their teaching certificate so it's a little bit different because these are already teachers that

060are teaching other field has to pay for their own and I mean I'm not saying I want to pay for it I'm just kind of Bing sus I kind of see his point too because most professions you do pay for your own but as the state comes and is making up all these rules now you need gifted endorsement now you need dyslexia you know expertise now you need the dyslexia screener now you need to have an seci endorsement now look at the bottom one all teachers are going to be required to have a reading endorsement by 2025 so I don't even know how many teachers I don't think we have that many that have reading endorsements but that's a whole other thing we're going to have to plan for and think about in the future

061so when I said for also well they're probably going to do what no so here's something to to think about when we went to the pelat training or conference which was the conference for English Learners um it was done by ad when they went over title 3 funding with us I brought up if title refunding could be utilized since it's a state mandate for teachers could it be used when it's released to pay for the trainers or these trainings and they said no because it's a mandate for public schools to fund so it need that we couldn't use title three funds are also only $300 but I just wanted to say more no there's some people that so some districts so then they said but don't get upset the charter schools can use the title

062ref funds to use it towards getting their teacher trained because they don't have the same mandates from the state the reason that they have to be sebi endorsed a lot of our programs when we were going to school like when I went back to school it it all automatically the class is attached to the program there's a lot of programs now that people are starting and they're not that's not attached that's not classes that are in the program so then they have to go back and get it completed and done when you're working with English language learner students the state has different models it's pull out and integrated integrated means that it's done within the classroom by the teacher and in order to have an integrated model you have to be ACI endorsed but the

063state has told us if you have a plan to move forward with it which we're working on a plan um they can be meeting the minutes in their classrooms as well so it's not just these pullouts all day with those students so the endorsement therefore there were many people before I think I went to school that started my program that weren't getting SE endorsed and then there was a chunk of time where programs were including that within the program and now recently they're not anymore so we have people that have it and people who don't it but the state says they need Happ mine was like a like a one day class at p and they said here you go you're endorsed now I still have to pay for it and things like that give

064us your money and but that was also 19 years ago I I haven't looked it it's on so remember when I said that in title 2 we had $3,000 I had budgeted for saladita PD that we're not using so sunnyside's going to start another cohort in January for spring so when we propose this and we have the theou the memorandum of understanding where we can take advantage of that then that's where would use that money from title two but moving forward also title two we have about 5,000 available for the next couple of years after the salaries to use for the reading endorsements and the continued SE endorsement plan and Greg I didn't mean like that you didn't want to do it but no you were right you I don't want to but that's that's

065questions right that we have to say if we're going to mandate but yet you know we we just keep sucking blood out of the turnup and when if teachers aren't getting could you imagine if teachers don't get a raise but we're saying you have to pay for your own sebi endorsement and your own reading endorsement so there and so when you look there middle school science curriculum I'm sorry so we have a need for middle school science curriculum so F kid just for middle school as we look at it would be 8500 out of capital um so we have to think about do we phase it in and buy half of the kits this year and pay the other half next year or how do we prioritize also what middle school science needs that's not

066even tapping into Elementary science yet Good Times needs and concerns for technology and infrastructure Joe do you want to yes touch on this please um so this is broken into four parts we have large Pro projects one that we're finishing up that's that's uh connected to the network infrastructure upgrade um this this year is the wireless access point configuration um we're almost done with that there's there's a little pick up with the middle school that we're working at um next next year to completely finish that project um the third item under large projects and I don't I don't have a quote for for these three pieces yet um but uh we we need to uh get the network switches uh configured and connected so that's the last part of of that uh that larger project

067that um that was started at the beginning of last year we should should be all set with our Network for um for a while um next next year I'd also like to look at um uh replacing our access control system with something that's a little bit more reliable we have uh several doors that keep um or several points that that keep failing we're having issues with our GES um every every year during Monon um every year during monsoon season uh those motherboards on the gates go out and um it's uh our our best option is to just kind of wait until the lightning stops to replace those mothers they just it just kills them um our we've had a problem with um and I I don't want to be specific about which doors but we

068we have issues with several of our doors on campus um that uh have have been ongoing so that's something i' like to look at next year intercom intercom system replacement um depending on where you are on campus the speakers are either really louder than quiet there's two uh some of the older speakers have volume controls on on the device themselves but for the overall system there's there's only uh uh two two volume controls and it's for it's kind of silly it's their stereo volume control so it's for left and for right but it's a it's not a stereo system it's system so don't really know why there's two um yeah depending on where you are when I when I turned them down some of those features were they couldn't hear here at all um so

069that's something I'd like to take a look at um just to go back to the network switch configuration um that where we're hoping that can be an e project for next year is that correct yes um so uh that's where we'll we'll get funding for that um okay other other items these are uh not you know these are larger ticket items so not things like document cameras uh CES things like that um but uh our devices continue continue to be kind of a regular expense um and we're with the student student Chromebooks now we're in a cycle where we're not we're not trying to um we're not trying to furnish every single student uh with device and get us to the point where we're one to one but we're trying to maintain um there we're

070we're coming up into two problems one the the the break rate um we we're losing probably one to two student devices a week just through accidents accidents um the other issue we have is the the the lifespan of the software of these devices that ranges six six to eight years so we kind of been a weird situation now where eight years ago um depending on the year we sometimes we bought large chunks of student devices we got small members of student devices so when they age out we can't use them anymore because they're no longer receiving security updates so whether or not they work we have to replace them and if it's if we're coming up to a year like this year is going to be one of those years where um we have uh

071200 Chromebooks that that age out we have will have to replace those last last year we had a smaller number um this this year uh we kind of the final final steps to purchase 46 new student Chromebooks um and what what fun we use for that the ECF that's um emergency connectivity fund okay so those those should be coming uh within the next couple weeks um I'd like to place an order for 10 repl new teacher laptops um right right now we have uh four older devices that mostly work if somebody um next next year I'd like to oh if we if depending on what happens with classrooms if we add add an additional teacher we'll need to get another uh at at least one more view Sonic I'd like to get two so that

072the library in the boardroom can stop sharing um and they're rough with the wireless card and with the stand they're rough roughly $4,000 a piece um uh next next year um again because about eight years ago we had we placed a large order for Chromebooks um I I'd like to order 120 um and that that price is based off of the price that we were quoted for the 46 um last last year we were able to purchase Chromebooks didn't we get we purchased 75 Chromebooks last year for what we get 46 for this year yeah so last year each an individual Chromebook we can get for $150 the 46 are around 230 pce and we we could we could go cheaper we could go refurbished um but the problem with those is that you're the

073the life span of the software is Shor so if you get a refurbished computer Chromebook it may only last two years um and once it's gone it's gone um uh five repl uh admin laptops I don't um I don't know when when we got the touch screens but do do you remember supero year no they've been around that was that your first computer that the touch screen is the first computer so and you think you're six years okay so your laptop is at least six years old it's ready to die um we we have three left yeah we have three left um um and one of them is has received very low mileage um the the desktop the desktop computers uh for District staff I don't know precisely how old they are but I I

074do believe that Dr Jeter was the first superintendent to use the desktop that I just pulled out of mrs's office so we what is that 9 years ago 100 she was 11 years ago so there our our district Wing is operating on the oldest computers on campus and they're working like a chel every Greg you need a new computer Greg need a new computer So What by the money he can't do his what we what we can't do I've spoken um I've spoken to the the the admin team about this for for users who well we have two options uh right now most of our our District staff has has two devices most of our administrative staff have two devices have desktop and their laptop um we can we we can just issue a laptop

075that they can connect to peripherals so that that that can save us a little bit of money um but um it's there's an inconvenience that's it we have it's a doing station one plug both monitors come in keyboard works it's that's it a so keep in mind that with the initial roll out of the Chromebooks we had a lot of support from the community remember when we had the AA w w women who donated money to help us do our last phase of K1 so a lot of the money did come from outside um support we use some I believe we used some of the white elephant money for Crow books at separate times so remind me the list of things you can use tax credit money for other than just Sports and clubs anything

076that's extracurricular extracurricular so field trips for sports clubs tutorials not and there's a set of rules that go with that they're supposed to have charge a fee like a student fee so likef club for example charges I think $5 obviously that doesn't pay for us to go do that but what it allows is for them to access the tax credit for that um it can't be for a grade it can't be something that's mandatory we can't buy basketballs for the basketball team and then have them used during to those guidelines they have to be used for that after school activity so you can't make every student a member of the after school laptop club we have a technology Club sir rame it technically they shouldn't use that during the academic time obviously would never been

077audited for that because every school I'm just trying to find a creative use of yes how much do they use these Chromebooks in class A Lot constantly book it is their it is it is for sure their key educational tool we do believe in using other additional things why we still have a library with real books and one of one of the things that we started doing within within the last two years with the addition of the instructional Tech position is that L lordis and I last year um we're we're now repairing devices whereas in the past we didn't have someone who could do that um now Lis is actually pulling the LED module out of these end of life devices and putting them into newer devices but the the newer devices are are less

078um the components are less compatible so the the keyboards specifically are are kind of a sticky point but um she's we're we're able to save some money just by simp and the Administration stuff The District staff computers and laptops that's what brand or it doesn't matter whoever gets the best deal what flavor yeah HP and lenov um yeah but the last set of laptops I think were Lova touch SC oh no it's an Acer Acer so the five replacement desktop go with the five replacement Administration laptops so it would be 10 advices right so it's for five administrators Administration for five no it wouldn't be for five and some so some would some have working laptops now um they wouldn't go to just five people they go to two so for for example should I

079yeah go ahead you me Mr Mr schuber uh requires a laptop and a desktop so he he'd have two Mrs Rico Mrs quas they'll just be on a laptop um and their their devices are are um are still powerful they still work but we we have three of I think six left so um you know assuming nobody has any accidents they'll they'll still be able to work for a couple more years it's just you know accidents happen do we have insurance on these not tops for students no not for uh for students like they break them they don't have insurance they do have a limited warranty so when a kid drops it a cracks a screen that's not get covered but if all of a sudden the keyboard quits working and there's no damage done

080then that's Mr fuson correct me I'm wrong but that typically is at the parents expense for the I don't know if we sent that contracts we used to yes we s out the contract the technology there was there's an insurance option for them in there but the parents are responsible for paying that most parents don't what happens if the kid breaks it keep in mind there's different breaks right so if the kid sitting there doing his work all of a sudden his computer stops working because it's old should the kids and the parents have to replace that the answer is no Mr Ferguson and his team gets them a replacement now if it gets sent to me because the kid was playing one of the games that he shouldn't be playing in class and punches

081the computer screen which Canon does happen um then we go to the parents and say it's your responsibility to replace this your child will not get a needed textbook essentially until they do that Mr Greg I go to him tpes up a bill we send parents and does it get paid or no we receive one that was paid and that's only because we made a deal with the parents where they could pay half and the kid had work if you're if you're when you say insurance policy if you're so some some schools will offer an insurance policy at the beginning of the year um that that's something that we used to offer uh we we stopped I think we stopped doing that maybe four or five years ago that's not not something we've done I'm

082not opposed to it I just haven't the contract last but if you're if you're referring to insurance on the itself there's all types of different things that could happen the laptop you could leave it on the roof of your vehicle and drive off with it there's multiple things that [Music] can is that on aam not I I was using that as as a hypo if some people in this room felt guilty about run over or anything I didn't say you did I didn't say you okay so for the sake of time we do have to move along um here looking at potential raises where we talked about what that would cost us and our M so our scenarios if we gave a 2% to salary and employees and 3.5 to hourly employees it would be

083125,000 cost to the dist District if we gave a 3.5 for all employees would be 172 if we did a 4% % for all employees it would be 195 last year we gave that everybody a what was the percentage seven a big one we did seven seven and the year before five five and the year before was that where we were at four again three two and a half or okay so just so you know um Sarita gave did they do 4% I think every most of the superintendents did 4% this year prior to teacher signing their contracts so just so you well the $200,000 question is what can we so I mean what what can we do well that goes back to what we have so when you go back to that first page

084and you see that amount that's remained understood I want to clarify that amount should be what we have come Mark normally that's about how much we would have left in March so my also so humble opinion would to be just do the three and a half% to the allies and then look at trying to do something with an increase at the beginning of the year that we can have a budgeted for and I know I'm completely 100% against that because we do have minimum wage increases that happen in January but if we did something for the possibly upcoming school year that's where my suggestion would be simply because where we are at now with unincumbered funds is where we should be in March where we are now is where we should be in March correct

085so in January the minimum wage is going up right minimum wage is going up three and a half% so there's you've got pay that I have to pay that but I would only have to pay that to those that are below okay and that by doing that that nothing with the compression in the pay scale that's one thing we need to work is compression is the compression of the P so that's why I would say all hour at the three and a half% which that would be my suggestion so what could happen is when we think about teachers who have left who left to saita or left to different districts because they were getting that signing bonus plus their raises plus whatever else they were offering them and you know we had teachers signing in

086good faith that they were banking on for in in January so when we look at if we don't do something and then in the summer we say we're going to budget for next year or fall I don't know how many teachers we're going to have that are going to say well we are going to go go because we didn't get our raise in January even with our three we came in January so are we competitive with Z or not not with their not with their signing bonuses and their um the the return the signing bonuses and their um retention what about 301 that didn't balance so 301 we're absolutely comped with 301 they're receiving this year less than what they have received in the last no they're receiving more this year what are they 12

08713,000,000 301 no we actually well so this year we receive more money but we have more people to spread it out across so it's not it's not a fair statement to say that we got more money so teacher should get more versus 28 last so last year we gave him a 7% they're not expecting a 7% again are they no no because we've been telling them where that our budget so how do we have so much more money last year we don't have any this year one of the big things is with last year we had all that money that was encumbered with Serena with the tuition payment that was yes so there was an additional $400,000 that once we finally paid that it went back into our budget see that's where I when Chris

088aely said we were negative 500,000 that's probably that money that when he was talking about that at the board meeting because thought we were out 500,000 and that's probably what he meant that we're not going to be popping that money of the difference I was trying to figure out where that I I knew I heard him say that yeah I wrote it down so we had budgeted $2.2 million in um tuition payments and we paid out 1.9 so that balance went right back into our budget okay so um just a few things before our final exercise before we get our food for moving forward um Greg do you want to on this so it's we talked about this time last year about going out early for the override um it's now that time to start

089thinking about it again for the November election of next year I thought I thought we we wait a year this nov okay so next month is that way so we're talking next November um currently we have a 14% override with our ml budget um whenever the voters approve it it's a sevene it's a it's good for seven years after five years it starts to decrease by a third until it's done um the override that we passed in November of 20 took place in J it's effect of July 21 so we're on that cusp of being able to have two rounds of approvals before we can have to start reducing so if we do it next year November 2024 and it doesn't pass we have the following election to try to get it passed before we

090have to start cutting the third because it did fail by one vote before this so with bonds um right right now our current bonding capacity how much we can actually go out for getting a bond we we can go out for up to 44.4 million um one of the things and I don't know how vers everybody is on on bonds but when you put together your pamphlet you have to be specific as to what you're going to be using the bond money for and when I say specific it doesn't need to get down to the level specificity of we're buying 500 Lenovo laptops it is we're spending the money on technology IE laptops desktops um most most fonds put out for buildings but that's but that's I'm just using that as an example um if

091you're going out to to build a building you need to say that you have the land at this location we're going to build a a school that will house K through three so it just has to have some level specificity the voters go out to to see it and what are we want to allocate that money for right now this is just a conversation okay just wanting you to know where we stand in terms of funds so as we're looking at growth and having to determine land at the bottom of the hill like we've talked about or the land beside us uh on what we're going to do we are outgrowing our schools so we need to start to be thinking about since we have several new board members and I have a presentation can

092I just give the 30 second really brief of where our state of our physical campus is um so we're doing okay on classrooms but you've noticed we started in kindergarten we've gotten four teachers we used to have an empty classroom for each grade level and because the original building they actually we have the plan and did not build out the special education building in that plan was taken off because of many different reasons that most of us don't know because we weren't administrators at the time um but there was change of this change of that it cost money and they didn't have money at the end of the project to finish the last building which was the special education So currently what's happening is all of our special education teachers are in rooms that were

093originally designed and built for regular education classrooms the problem that we're having is as you already know we're starting to grow out we also have Specialists our reading Specialists um our our MTH Specialists our counselors are in regular education classrooms because the building that was built supposed to have all these offices and rooms for those Services never got built so what you're going to see and we've seen it already is we're starting to push people out of the Kinder po now out of the first grade one next year our counselor will have to move if we keep up with the current trend of adding a teacher a year we don't know we always go off with numbers based off of what our student population is doing but what we're watching is every year we're growing

094by one so next year we have to figure out where the counselor goes then the year after that it's fed resource in the third because our elementary special education teachers there then you go into math coach math coach and then you go into the reading so all these people have to shift right we our middle school counselor is technically in a CL right so these are things that we are growing very very quickly and I've talked about this for years and our presed plans we also talked Elementary doesn't have a proper gymnasium things of that nature um so there is Need for concern not necessarily yes at some point we're probably going to have to build two elementary schools in our in our district as things grow if things continue to grow because right they

095said oh well there's no more room to build we build out but then Fico has already told us eventually Orchards will all be houses so when that happens we will need we will need in 15 years according to Mayor Murphy we will need another Elementary School potentially school as well to support us and not to mention at some point become a unified school district which is required to become a high school um and we've talked about there's about 20 acres is it 20 acres true or 30 that's just to the east of the school BLM that we can buy for pennies on the dollar um that's set aside thanks to Mr mcg's father um for educational purposes only so we don't own that but there's potential that that has to be for public education um

096so that's where we think a high school would sit very well because then you can use the district and use sources of the kitchens right there the transportation also so there there's some benefit there um so in my opinion the one thing that we can't keep being blind about is we do not have a place to expand for our special education students in our classrooms because our regular education classrooms are going to keep being filled up and we're just running out of space that way and that's supposed to go where the tether ball poles are and the sidewalk going down the library that's supposed to sit right there we can still make that available and and do that but in my opinion if we looked at a bond it would be to make sure that

097we can continue going for the next five to eight years um in the growth pattern that we have so that we can fill that out eventually you're going to see the growth in the elementary hit to Middle School right well you have Elementary specialists in Middle School classrooms so PE and music are in the middle school so those rooms eventually would have to be cleaned out so when we do that we've talked about different plans of um redoing half the bus barn and putting a gym up there so that the PD teacher move there that gives you two classrooms in the Middle School um which is a common thing we're seeing that in alter Valley has something like that they're actually pretty nice facilities um so there are some plans I have a great presentation

098if the two of you want to see it sometime let me know that everybody else has seen it several years in a row so we spared it today but I do have that where we can that money dollar amount how many students do we have right now no it's I call it just shy of seven 630 correct me if I'm wrong the State Board facilities board won't talk to us until we hit our 800 is that correct they won't hit they won't talk until we capacity which according to them around 1200 students yes so if we for yeah that's that's that's correct so according to them they would like to see about 32 students in each of our Elementary classrooms Greg is the that we did with that um to us we can't wait for

099that that just doesn't work yeah but also what doesn't work is a n or 10% Bond loan to the school district to me that sounds like a fin suicide and that's that's unfortunate it is what it is what our capacity is just because we can go out for $44 million doesn't mean that we need to abolutely we would only go out for what we feel our voters can absorb as far as a tax increase and and what we there's that but there's also what we have to have to continue functioning that's why I'm talking very small scale I'm not talking building at the bottom of the hill yet I'm talking like we know that we've got this problem IND in three to four years that we're not going to be created like we have them

100so I've got some plans to get us through the next three to four which is you take one classroom and put all your your coaches in one put dividers up we're going to make that happen right in the fifth grade pod but eventually you're going to get to that fifth grade pod and then where do they go and where in the meantime where's all all the special education students going we can't just put up tents outside and expect that a reasonable the good news is is there's a chunk of land about 300 yard from us right now across the yes sir that belongs to the school that if we decide that it's not our thing it's a it's a chunk of money that this District could use for a potential to avoid tapping into a

10144.4 million but it's also if if you think about it I mean there things that you could do with that plot of land over you could you could build build preschool and use the current that current area as your SP are so I mean that's I agree but you're also you're also have to keep in mind that the BLM option is literally I mean we could come up with enough cash in our wallet right now to buy that as a school district it's next to nothing um when you have some very valuable land here you convert if you got creative doing something up there may not be ideal I get that but I don't I hope we but I just I cring thought of borrowing a pending at this point the other thing I consider

102with that too is I want to say it's three acres that often times goes unnoticed and unmentioned that the district owns just to the south of the school so our our School boundaries is a square which actually crosses across the road and encompass is there we talked at one time about building preschool on the other side across the street from the school or even a district office in that cre AG so there is that that space some options without going too far in because M Rico is GNA tell me it's timeat I'm okay with that we've also talked about moving preschool out of there making that the special education room because they do have change room for extra bathrooms changing station they do already have the playground with the gate it would make a fantastic

103special um facility but then we have to think about where well we have to build something somewhere right so then you can build preschool um either across the street or down at this location or acquire the land above and put the preschool up in that area so there's there's options there's no set thing there right these are just like I said I have a PowerPoint with lots of options pictures diagrams that we can look at at some point those are some of those things just feel free to make that together or IND just as an FYI that BLM that land is available at a cost that would be cheaper than the laptops on the screen I said Pennies on the dollares on the pennies only only for school only but that was put in place

104for that so that could happen it's it's so cheap and blow your mind but it we have to get creative it doesn't expire the only only potential is another it would have to be another school it has to be for Education knows about it so come so the problem I don't that really can't happen because Ser can't buy it out of their jurisdiction and so I'm more worried about charter schools and things of that nature yeah I don't there's there's lots of people looking I to my knowledge and I shouldn't even say it because I don't know I believe that it was done for public education but I don't know that we'd have to look at the what it was allocated for and all that sort of stuff really honestly at this point the reason

105why none of us know is it's kind of an attorney thing at this point mov forward to acquire that it's not like we show up and say you know we're g we're eight admin laptops and we're going to buy the proper it was done as a vision about 40 years ago 40 years agow as a just in case so there's no guarantees in that AC there I want to be clear on that there's a lot of unknown territory we are aware of that thanks to Mr MC who brought that to all of our attention um but so we definitely need to look into that as an option but like I said there's there is some things not that I'm trying to displace preschool but preschool parent pickup drop off in the middle of our normal

106campus it does post some challenges not only for us but for them as well so by moving them to a different location could benefit everybody as well so there's just there's different things that and this is the first time sorry I'm bringing this onong you you've heard it Jenny Dr W has heard about this time and time again so there's there's just different things to play around that's not the main purpose of our meeting was November 2nd of 201 not that long are you sure yes because I have to follow report every every year and there's still $8.4 million standing to pay on it um and then I just want to share some of the concerns with the override committee members um that have shared is that they were concerned with this tax increase if

107it was going to affect our um our override opportunity so the state legislature what's her name from the state presented a meeting I was at last week or and that was the first thing she said they got the letter her mwan and our other representative K Griffin kale Griffin I talked about as well yeah she said that is the first thing they're going to do when the legislator gets back together it's already organized it's ready to go and she did say well you know it was out there for a year before it got approved okay fix it is that your job so she is she they I mean boom she she answered that right out so we just need to think about it because if we decide then we need to get board approval by

108DEC January the override the override is such a long process so it's generally something that you would start off in January so it would take about 9 10 months so but we're saying we would have to bring it to the board for December I think so that we could start to work on committee is sitting here so we would have to decide next meeting yes action item you guys okay good so now on the next slide and you have these are just the things that we've done with the school facilities board that we said we would just put in in a document so you could see so current SFP expenditures since fy21 349,000 with an estimated you can say number huh $3 million okay is that right 3 million to complete her projects yes but

109that's not out of our no that's just the security cameras is $15,000 didn't you new routers and stuff to go with that for yourist so what I need you all to do between now and dinner we're g to get dinner there but what I want you to do is with your little potit you don't even have to put your names on them the green one is for the priority you see the chart there say Transportation maintenance curriculum um technology and staff raises you don't have to put your name on these I just want you when we go to get your food or let however you want to do it if you don't anybody see you put your poits on the green one is going to go on what you feel is the most important thing

110that we need to address in order to meet our needs and our concerns you have two orange ones for your second and third choice and then you have a yellow for your two fourth and five fourth and fifth choices so the green is what is your priority right now the next two you see there are medium priority is orange less of a priority is yellow so as we go out if you want to some of us can go out and get our lunch served and you put them up before we finish lunch dinner we will have dinner at 6:07 we'll come back in here at 6:25 so we can wrap up and everybody's post it should be up by the time we come back okay yes okay and the diamond back score who knows Z

111I've got I'm at the bottom of the z z they got got two hits two hits okay I got it right there all right so some of us need to go start to ser obviously in transportation and in staff raises and I should have explained before when we talk about transportation and those raises that would mean that we're solely trying to increase Transportation driving Sal driver salaries to make them competitive to our neighboring schools I just want to make sure that neighboring districts that that's what everybody gathered but we will continue to look at I took a picture of the chart so we'll have it to kind of sit down with our um with Greg and with our team to really try to see what's doable right if we do the staff raises where you

112can see there's a lot of greens and oranges so and maintenance in grounds also has a lot of orange and green and also with the transportation and the drivers so um we will continue to look at what it looks like for stack raises I think the most important thing is going to have to be truly if we don't do some sort of raise what are the implications going to be for us for next year and teacher retention and trying to keep our our teachers with us because our neighboring districts will be offering another 4% raise and then our teachers will say well we haven't received you know they they be minus 8% so um and Steve I know that we have a lot of feedback too in terms of teachers their nearing us of signing

113the contract cont S without knowing whether there's going to be a raise or not because it says on their contracts that raises will be contingent upon funds and given in January so we've done is this year the last two years three years we've done January raises not not August raises and so we we're building trust in it what the teachers tell us every year is we can't trust admin to actually do those raises and they don't really know but they're already halfway you know they're already halfway into a contract so it is challenging but it's one of those things that there's a logical reason why and we understand why and Greg explains that to them every year um but it still is you know you're working half a year on in their minds this last

114year's contract but not really our contracts officially right or January on is the way and it's different for us but it makes sense because we know we have that money when we offer raise unlike other districts that offer raises that don't actually know what they're underline is um and when we try to throw in the 301 monies into the raise they teachers get upset because that's not what the money is intended for to be do the other schools do that I mean every school has to you have to have a percentage of 301 I know my question was when they say the 301 money is in their base salary though no what they what they try to say is like this is your base salary plus your1 money plus the benefits we pay you so

115you're earning this much money so it looks like it's a lot of money but it's really not and we don't lay it out that way well we have we had to last we did we have to lay it out for them in terms of what we pay so here's the other thing if we cap what we pay because we been paying 10 to 15% increases in Insurance in medical insurance so if we cap that and say you have to if we get you know we have to get pay 15% more this year we're only going to pay what we paid this year but we're going to give you you know we we can't not give raises and cap Insurance because that'll kill us right we either have to give a raise and say we're capping

116medical or we're gonna keep paying medical and not give a raise the argument there is some people don't use our medical right right now it's 575 a month so it's seven Grand a year cheap roughly yeah and plus anybody that has our um by deductible health plan with the health savings account we Dro 1,200 get another 12200 we put $1,200 every year into their health savings account how's that compared S I have no idea I believe they don't pay um completely for um the employees medical insurance is just partial but I don't know the percentage I think that's pretty rare these days it is it is very rare and all the people that I talked to were the only District that I know left that pays a 100% of the healthare everybody else pays percentages

117and those percentages range from like 80% all the way down to basically nothing so it really just depends that drives me crazy just IGN the employee but then obviously if you had your children and your spouses it goes up the people that we interview drew that we sell that to They Don't Really ignore it there's some different factors right so if I'm coming in and my spouse works for border of Patrol that it's a nonissue it's a nonissue so and they're like well can you take that into consideration of what you would pay for my insurance can you pay well no we can't do that so right now I'm having to try to sell everything so when I have that conversation I said well um we do have 301 money and we offer 98% of

118our 301 money which most districts don't because they tied into other areas because they're legally allowed to we we at Al um almost all of our 301 money goes directly back to the teachers and so the number that Christin gives us is basically a minimum of $55,000 additional to the salary so we do sell it because we have to because otherwise you compare it to any other school and we're far below when you put that 301 5000 we're right there with s okay but here's the caveat we also sell from some years we get more than 5,000 for example we had one year they got $14,000 for 301 two years ago two years ago that's huge the teachers were so happy right this year is going to be a pretty good good year TR grade

119so but that 30 one money that the district gets is a m Target so we can't say you will get $144,000 additional to your salary we we have to throw out a number of the for HR is that 5,000 and we are able to get teachers here off of that but what is that it's a bunch of promises they have to trust us and they don't even know us we're interviewing them we just offer them a job and they have to trust us from day one that we're going to fulfill our promises and although their contract says this which really doesn't go into effect until January one you see the problem it's the the one of the reasons 301 is so wavy and up and down it's because it's tied to the grazing fees that

120I pay as a Rancher go straight into the state trust land system you more cost no but but that's based on the number of cattle that are Grazing In the state of Arizona if it doesn't rain they sell cattle the fees collected are lower the fees distributed in 301 are lower it's just that simple so that's why it's so up and down because it's directly tied to another industry which happens to be agriculture which very few people know that but that's where the money comes from it comes from State trust fund specifically for that reason so that's one of the reasons why it's so up and down because that's what agriculture is up and down get when you eat more chicken you don't get 301 but chicken's cheaper get what you pay for so again

121I just we will do a similar this similar presentation to teachers because it is important that they understand like you all that we do know what the concerns are we do know know what the need is but again we have we're Limited in the amount of money that we have and how we have to prioritize what we can do so from this will come a specific plan for each department in terms of how we're going to um continue to address the needs that we've all identified together and as we get the quotes from the estimates of what grounds can help or looking at a part-time person or looking at driver Stephen your your conversation about only getting Transportation driver raises and not everybody across the board oh I'm all for driers getting raises but I

122think if you said there in my group that whole group coming from where the background I came from that's why I said it if you if you tell the entire staff that only 14 people are getting a raise out of all the money that's available I think you're going to have an all out War I think you're going to downright just going to you're not going to have teachers coming back next year that's where I'm sitting from from a labor un standpoint that's where I think that's just going to be an ugly situation so I would ask you a followup question of that so why didn't that happen at Sero why didn't that happen at TD why didn't that happen at Rio Rico it's because everyone understands a bus driver has to have a CDL

123they are a certified employee not a classified because they have to have aert which is why they get paid more and so that I I'm just saying it's happening and Serita is still there and they have drivers coming to their left and right so I I get your concerns but we also have to there's a supply and demand and we are in demand we're in demand so you're gonna pay more and I've even thought about this m Rico you talk about that right what if she gave that same speech to our whole staff and how different would this look like instead of us I think they see how un overworked Bob is and how he's constantly trying I think you would see similar where they would do that I think when you present with the

124facts that our drivers get paid $5 less than any other employee our paros don't get paid $5 less than any other District what I'm saying now is the paos now make what a driver makes that's where I'm but how do you come up with trying to get our department up to without making everybody else angry that's what I don't know and this is transparent right being transparent and having these conversations I'm all for the drivers making more I'm not saying I want my drivers make but so okay so we we I have a picture of this we're going to redo it with staff we as we number crunch what we have with our budget will have to be making a decision by December in terms of raises on what we're going to allocate so we

125have homework to do in terms of what we need to purchase out of what funds for right now um another thing is I gave you our letter grate I wanted uh you as board members to see the letter that went out um when our November newsletter it's going to be going out and then uh just kind of a recap of the numbers so that we can um have more discussion with this I'll be presenting it at our next board meeting but I wanted you to have it up front just so you can start to understand the numbers a little bit today we SP with teachers when you look at percent proficiency and stability that's where we need to keep our proficient kids proficient and then our kids are showing growth but not enough growth to

126go from minimally proficient to partially and partially to proficient okay so there there's growth but not we need we need more growth so we'll be sharing our plan at our next board meeting with all of you and I'll be explaining to the public in terms of how some of these points bear out okay so we are a be and also in closing I want all of you to please take this and as we talked about the hard work and being a team it truly is about um attitude right so we can't do it with bad attitudes we can't do it with deist attitude we have to continue to be optimistic and we have to be able to um continue to work with each other straight and oh okay so what I want you to do

127is just take this food for thought leadership team we'll be having a discussion about this at our next leadership team meeting so I want you to take the survey and just kind of check you know we all always have to check ourselves on on where we are because we all have room for growth and we all um can be better and we got to work in Synergy together um in order to be better to move from good to great because we already have a really really good team so we are working on becoming an even better team so just look at that at our next um board meeting in November we would like you to do a self evaluation as board members um I read it by speed and um we'll email you the link

128for our board members so you can reflect and we'll have a study session prior to our November board meeting it'll be a a study session to discuss where we are as a board and we can have a little bit of discussion in terms of the attitude tomorrow no week from yesterday the next no our next board meeting is two weeks from yesterday yes okay so with that thank you so much for your attention and your time today and team for stay appreciate it and I hope we have a little bit more clarices anything else no just thank you guys all for coming we appreciate and P attention detention for you TR to say thank you guys for coming all your hard work I know we all go you guys all go the extra level we

129wouldn't be where we at now and I'm gonna I'll talk too about I'm always GNA call you this worries um is when you do talk to teachers and maybe I can come and just tell them we are behind you guys we are want try to milk every penny out of every resource you can and get it back into what's they get it even you know how I know what they make and you guys it's tough you know I got to put gas in my car and go the safe way too and it's a tough week man it is you know they can tell us this is so you know they can say inflation's under control they Ain never come down because it shot so far up during Co and it's still there and you know

130wages are still down here regardless of one industry you're in and it really stinks if you own a house stay in it because there could be bad stuff coming down except you Mr you go find you go find your dream find that dream out we still have that one for sale I know yes find that dream go find the dream house I have it for she just I got a bunk house for you have to share with the chick careful
