003of you in your classroom classrooms have been reviewing the mission and the vision statement in your classes and know that our theme for the year is world of imagination because we are imagining ourselves going from good to great right and accomplishing so many things this year so we had our asba County meeting and we'd like to congratulate Mrs Rutha Maria on her recognition of fulfilling the new fulfilling the new governing board member on boarding modules and hours and receiving a certificate of orientation so she was recognized at the meeting and um you can see a little arrow right there by your name Mrs amadas on the slideshow that was at asba so we'll get a picture with you later thank you um our continued student leadership efforts our student leadership Lighthouse team formerly known as
004student advisory um we met to discuss the opening of school and goals for the year and our goals are to continue our beind efforts and to model leadership and when we talk about what is leadership leadership is communicating people's worth and potential so clearly that they're inspired to see it in themselves so we are working towards every every single person on our campus seeing themselves as an essential leader of our school we also discussed um our school rating on Great Schools and Google so parents that are here in the audience if you could please log in and give us some positive recognition on greatschools.com and on Google because if there's one negative comment from six years ago on Google it shows up as the low rating as a school so we really want to encourage
005our kids and our parents to go in and make sure that um you help us U Market our school and just like in a home right we deal with our issues here on campus that we can handle and we we're very careful what we put out to the public in terms of how things um are going but we want you to come to us there's problems or concerns we don't ever want you to just feel like putting them on Great Schools or on Google is going to help the situation also students um also our students wrote Our be kind notes and nominated staff for Continentals Ben Bells so at every uh leadership Lighthouse team meeting students will uh recommend teachers to receive the Ben's Bell and write notes and there's some pictures of our kids
006and meetings last month and this month rotary presentations I presented at our rotary at VI Rotary on our dual language enrichment program and on our literacy efforts on our I9 Corridor so in this picture Mrs Angel G who's superintendent of Nogales AA Bonas who's the assistant superintendent in Nogales Steven shadler who's the assistant superintendent in Santa Cruz and Brett Bonner who's the assistant superintendent of salar and myself we presented to VI the rotary who really supports our literacy efforts um as all the other rotaries in town de uh to ensure that we have what we need in terms of literacy and it was interesting how how similar we all are in the i19 corridor using different culum but a lot of the strategies and um trainings and professional development that we offer is across the
007board and our student data looks very similar as well generation schools Network again our continued School Improvement efforts uh we conducted walkthroughs with staff and students we discussed and reviewed leadership styles of team with the indigo assessment reviewed professional learning communities protocols in order for us to continue to analyze data and um analyze student work and what's exciting and for those of you who don't know when we do our walkthroughs we have a team of teachers and we have teachers who sit with us and uh we go into the classrooms and we have we have an observation protocol that we use we go back we discuss and then we go back into the classroom and provide specific feedback to the teachers and the students in terms terms of what they're doing to increase student achievement
008this year you can see on the right we added some of our eighth graders from um student advisory from our nighthouse team to participate with us and their feedback and their comments were amazing and they were spot on and they took the job really serious so we'll be doing three to four walkthroughs this year and we'll be adding different kids and then the teachers who we observed this time will be on the observing end the next time so that by the end of the year everybody will have had a turn in the last two years to either be observed and be The Observers for professional development Mrs quas and I attended the national all Summit um we went to Mark Twain dual Language Academy and we're super excited with what we saw what we learned
009the ideas to watch the kids operating in English and in Spanish was amazing which we have here at our school too so uh we want to do some things better and differently with our dual language team as well um based on what we learned from that school principal and from the students and teachers there and um there we are on the right with um the national superintendent that was awarded she standed by Mrs us Miss Sandra Gan and she's from California and she's just very motivating very inspiring and hard worker so we have a good collaborative group that works together in terms of leadership and moving our schools forward and the little family that's there they had a drone show so those are actual drones in the sky that did that and there's another one
010in one of my other slides but it was amazing I had never seen a drone show like that have any of you you seen a drone show like that in the yes really cool okay um again so um at the conference Mrs quas and I um met with some fellow colleagues and we submitted a proposal to uh when women lead National Summit which is in June so we submitted a proposal with G in the midle she's an assist superintendent in to Phoenix and the title of our proposal was empowering women in education navigating challenges and celebrating triumphs and there you can see the Drone action with the with the United States out there okay um I don't know if those of you saw the chalk art that was here on the first day of school
011coming back but I want to thank the wot and D families for the amazing inspir coming into second quarter and you can see it says welcome to second quarter kindness is magical and I have to say that that was my first smile of the morning walking in and seeing the chalk art I was like yes this is what I love and this is why I come to work every day so thank you again for that thread assessment training so our leadership ATT team attended a free presentation and we like free um offered by the trust so thank you Mr schert and Mr Nathan for um being one of the first to sign up and get us um our team trained so again looking at the full Emergency Management cycle um also looking at the comprehensive
012School threat assessment the SE stag so this is important so often districts focus on how to respond to an act of violence on campus but sey focuses on prevention so there was a lot of conversation about how do we keep that activ vience from happening in the first place how are we having restored practices how are we interviewing students how are we getting to a good cause to prevent issues from happening student assemblies our Continental Cults have begun volunteering to coordinate schoolwide assemblies the assemblies will be student n and their students work on taking the lead around our campus shining as C leaders they'll be teaching on various different topics that they CH that they will choose from such as Aid leader and me PBIS and celebrating and recognizing one another on their achievements and
013to the left there you see our poster with our leader and me with the seven seven habits trees so boys and girls make sure you talk to your parents about the seven habits right and tell them what you're learning in class sfb update this is the current status of the pipes along the west side of the middle school so new cleanouts have been installed but two more sets of cleanouts will need to be installed over Thanksgiving break so sfb is a school facilities board and thanks to Mr Schubert um in the last two years with the projects that SF is working on we're we will have saved in the last two years we would have saved around 120,000 and in the next year we're going to spend about another million so that's money that we
014would normally have to pay for ourselves to get these projects done that when we submit them to the state department and it's reviewed by the school facilities board then they agree this is something that they need to cover so the weatherization projects the blue Fe the PIP the wells the new security cameras the new cameras so there's going to be a lot of that and I'll make sure that we we were talking today about putting together just the whole sfb story on what school facilities board has paid for us so thank you Transportation update bus 96 and 99 were picked up and removed from campus from the auction if you remember we reported on that um we have lost One driver since our last meeting but we are starting to fill our vacant positions with
015two pending approval of drivers tonight and two more in the works that are finishing their pre paperwork and we want to give an extra super exciting shout out to Mr n who um his commencement from Grand University is on the 19th at 2m so we'll be watching the live stream of his commencements in phix board meeting live stream change so Vio is sunsetting their live stream product and is moving our clients to a new platform so we have been using Vio and and YouTube to live stream our important events for the past five years so instead of transitioning to the new program we're going to stick with YouTube which will save the district $3,313 so starting next month our events can be watched live on YouTube with that link and we'll make sure that it's
016on our website and in our new newsletters for parents to C to access okay our foundation update so just a reminder mark your calendars Saturday February 10th is our Continental Foundation it's going to start at 4:30 and it is at a new location which is the historic pooa Ranch in Green Valley I have not been there myself but I hear that it's beautiful menu uh very spacious and we're looking forward to hopefully attracting more sponsors and more people to that event this year since the location is different we also will be having the University of Arizona School of Music feature featuring The Fred Fox combo band Yes uh so with the foundation one of the main things that our foundation does is they provide minig grants to our teachers so they have have already allotted

027feel obligated we'd love to have you probably got another 25 minutes or so so with that we'll take about three minutes to let everybody make their decision conratulations all right okay with that we will start back up now our next item is item 10 the consent agenda which is a action item any discussion on any of the items on the Cent I I do I have a question on the um par professional the new par professional position P how is that position being [Music] funded okay is that to replace somebody or is this a totally new position it's going to be a totally new position just because of the increase in are in the number of kids that we have that need the extra help and this is like to help the nurse or what
028do you guys mean by medical needs we have some um medically fragile students that need more one-on-one assistance in the jet classroom and this is this is also a position that we're kind of in limbo of whether how much need we need um so we're we don't have someone in mind and this is just where we're thinking so we may or may not by December or November decide that we truly need it but it's under review with those with the medical leads do you have to have a scope of practice with that medical means I mean I don't know means is it occupational therapy is it Meda a is I mean or well before we answer that we really can't say what it is that way we can't identify of no I just is there
029I mean hiring a PA professional versus medical person I guess is where was scope of practice so it's it's varied and that's kind of what we're in the process of trying to get a better handle on what type of assistance we're GNA have to have Mrs yes Mrs Amaria yes Mr MCG Mrs Ellen yes Mr yes that we will move on to uh Mr schuber and the district financial report we've all been on edge about well thank you for waiting I know it's been a long evening so we'll just go over this line by line great so before you can we goow we can go as slow as you need to so before you tonight this is the ex Finance report um this report was run before we finally got last year closed out so
030things like um cash on hand and things like that are not um truly um represented in here but now that we have done our roll over from last year the next one that you see will be 100% accurate without having to go back and see what we had at the end of last year added to this subtract this so this is the just the the monthly report and I bring it to you for your approval this is a motion I'll move to approve the district financial report I discuss Greg just to verify the extra taxes that count is collecting that we're not getting will not be reflected in can back on on uh the line item that says taxes collected I he said because he said they're putting that in there like a a savings
031account yes so the extra tax money that you know with the the passage of that house bill will not be reflected in here this is only Actual taxes that were received on our behalf that were sent to I just want to make Mrs Le yes M yes Mr MCG yes Mrs alen yes Mr yes and the annual financial report so this is our annual report shows everything that we we had had from the previous year um again I will go through this one just kind of you know high level overviews and if there's anything more specific that you'd like to have a discussion on we can have that discussion the very first page is our revenues and it's broken down between um our local revenue or our County revenue our state revenue and our federal
032revenues um early not a whole lot on this page go to the next one these are our expenses so when you approve your our budgets every year it's the same categories and this is just how much we spend in each one of those categories next page this is our classroom site fund this is the 301 money so that tells you how we you know what we started off with what we ended the year how much we spent and then what we uh ended the school year with next page this is our our our Capital Money um again just just like with the budget it shows you how much we spent in each one of these separate categories next page um federal state projects this is um what our beginning balances ending balances on our expenditures
033it tells you how much we have in each one of those categories you'll notice the read on some of those those are just uh we haven't received the U when we do our completion reports at the end of the year it's after our last request so once our completion reports get approved that funding comes back to us so that's why you have the red there next page this is our cash accounts and um as you can see everything there um it gives you your our beginning balance how much we received how much we spent and then our ending balance nice thing with cash accounts is you don't want to see any red which fortunately we do not have any so of our cash accounts still have cash in them thank you next page so this
034is on bonds and and indebtedness so it shows that on that top left corner that at the beginning of the school year last year we had 11.6 million outstanding bonds we retired $788,000 by making our payments which now leaves us with a outstanding balance of $10.8 million on our bonds short-term debt these are expenses that we have that are five years or less so we have 78,79 outstanding I have quick question on that that line there July 1st 2022 is that the origination date that is the the beginning of the fiscal year oh that was the at the beginning of the year okay and then we made some payments on that and that it doesn't show us how much we paid on that line it just tells you what ourstanding balance is which is at
035556 299 um my next line is just what our assess valuations were for 2023 um so total taxes um taxable um property within our um School District boundaries was 423 mil 35882 which generated a tax rate of 17789 and then on our secondary rate became a 3611 that's the over um the secondary is not necessarily the override um there's a there's a primary rate and a secondary rate so the secondary rate is going to cover um of course it doesn't includes the override but it also includes um I'll get back to you on it it's it's in here it's just not coming out um expenses by category how much we spent inside the classroom with the exception of supplies we spent $5.6 million classroom supplies spent 326,000 our administrative cost last year was 1.2 million
036support services for students was just over 700,000 um all of our other Support Services was 1.7 million for a total expenditure of 9.6 so that includes all of our grants and everything um we can go ahead on over to the next page um enrollment of gifted pupils by grade so we've had plenty of lengthy conversations about gifted and how we get about three cents for each gifted student so out of the 17 gifted that are been identified as gifted because we got like a dollar um bottom right is the tuition that was paid out last year so we paid $1.9 million to Ser Unified School District um next page uh which one's this the next year that goes away next year that'll be gone that won't even be on there so this one instru okay
037so this is how much we spent on instructional um these are our instructional expenses so salaries benefits professional servic is it's a total of 5.9 million and you can just kind of scroll you know go on down and see all of that there um teacher salaries for certified teachers was 1.9 million um then special ed those salaries was 175,000 um we spent almost $997,000 last year in substitutes you have a question yes textbooks like did we spend that much on textbooks yes we spent $197,000 on textbooks wow curricul don't books that's our that's our curriculum our math but it's it's still like we still it's a recurring expense we signed three we signed fiveyear contracts with them but it's the student consumable piece plus like the textbook is online but we have the student consumable
038pieces for K3 um four through eight is strictly online but it's the teacher and then as we increase classrooms and we have to buy more teachers manuals and increase the cost for the student materials okay so it's not an actual textbook it's just right it just Falls into that nine item for curriculum books in scho I know that's good question I don't really think there's much um what did we spend in Technical Services we spent 40 almost $42,000 in Technical Services 18,000 in rental of of equipment 368 in telecommunications software reported in literary books textbooks and instructional AIDS 242,000 um technology related supplies and and so there's a new category where um non-instructional technology they want to separated out so in non-instructional um technology we spent um 900 bucks technology related hardware and software 143,000
039so all and told within the technology of our for last year we spent almost $484,000 just in technology next page technolog is not cheap um so this is a new page um they wanted to know H how we spent any coid funds last year um they hadn't asked this one in the past so this one's just kind of breaking down this is the Esser money so Esser money that we had spent last year we just spent uh $95,000 in that last year a big chunk of that was the the $46,000 that went towards the the playgrounds and and the shades out there's expiration date yes yes um yeah really not a whole lot else down here um um down at the bottom of the page it tells you how much um we received in each
040award and then how much we spent in the 2021 year how much we spent in in 22 how much we spent in 23 and then the balances that are remaining all those so if you wanted to know how much is left there is and you have to spend it by when uh June 30th everything all the co money will expar you by the end of this year what does it say where's it where's down at the bottom look like very this is going to be helpful in our Retreat we talk about expenditures to and like because we're all probably uneducated as to how you can spend yes it is restricted right because the local layment well 8,000 yeah we could buy a you can go get yourself a teacher right yeah exactly right I me
041that's what the common people like me would think yeah okay thank you all right but that concludes my presentation of the AFR so Mr President I'll let you do your your duties and answer questions after I look forward to reallying down into this that's fine as long as you sign it tonight it was due on Sunday we'll see okay we need a motion please I'll move to approve the annual financial report I'll second any discussion I think in cases like that you know following protocol to comment after the second motion really you've thrown it out the window which applies in this case to you know let you go through all that and then go back and questions I know question I know do while we're doing okay and that's why I really don't mind the
042protocol being especially on a document like this can be modified as necessary okay Mrs Le yes Mrs Amaria yes Mr MCG yes Mrs alen yes Mr yes okay so the next one is new business resolution regarding the asba did you guys see I'll give you a little color about it and uh Laura and I and roxan were there at a at a county meeting where we got more educated about it um so did you see the memo that was sent from the sample letter from the as the the county super superintendence to the asbaa did so the long and short of it is the new president of the asba who's been a board member there for a long time um there were some discrepancies in his resume where things changed about his education this that
043and the other thing and somehow he got into be the new leader of the asba and they lost some critical staff including Julie Julie's last bacon Julie bacon who we know pretty well she's been there a long time is is a big Advocate and so there's um basically what this is saying is here's the letter which has been canned by the county that we're just supporting questioning this is not really asking correct me if I'm wrong him to resign but it's just saying hey we're seeing that there's something up here that this is not cool so the Pima County superintendents got together and we decided that um we would write a joint resolution that all the people County Schools superintendents and board members would approve to move forward to asba so when we're looking at
044the end where it says um you know um be it further resolve that the school districts of re County um stand in solidarity with each educational stakeholder in demanding that asba promptly address this controversy restore public trust and ensure that its leadership upholds the highest standard of Integrity credibility and professionalism in service to public education in students so we are staying saying that this needs to be fixed and rectified there was a lot of conversation about districts um not wanting to be part of Asda um but again we're saying we really depend on Asda for our policies and our policy review and that we need to work together to rectify it rather than just abandon it let's work together to fix it and make the organization work for us like we expected to so all
045the um I believe we are the last uh board to look at this resolution because a lot of them have already had their board meetings and it has um been in favor of ensuring that aspa addressed the issue and not just let it continue and really be addressed concern motion to approve I move to approve uh signing the resolution regarding or School Board Association I'll second discuss Mrs Le yes Mrs Amaria yes Mr MCG yes Mrs Allen yes Mrs Mr as yes and even more exciting the financial report the first reading of policy advisory 748 so I don't know if you've all had a chance to see them but just a reminder that the blue line is what's added and the red line is what's being deleted so um you'll have the opportunity to review
046them and at our next board meeting we'll be able to discuss um I will submit some more information on some of the policies that I know just to give you all a heads up that I'll address everybody at the same time but we will approve deny then next for motion oh that's just discussion okay next is the events upcoming fairs um this week right yes Friday well it's this week is book fair Friday we have our Chun or tree and our Carnival are all Carnival so please come onl Friday yes it's Friday yes and um our Retreat meeting if you can see November 1st I just want to make a change um we did discuss um prior to the board members on expecting it to 6:30 yes yes so that will be yes it's 3
047to 5:30 on here and it'll be 3: to 6:30 so just a leadership team knows that dinner will be provided at napada [Music] who's doing your um Red Ribbon are you guys G to have someone come and present so we have a committee that's been working on it so we have a week A Week full of events and I know our counselor's putting together a assembly also that's going to be student met I'm not sure as far as outside speakers mrsas do you know any of the speakers for R week or anybody on the committee that's here no one committee is here okay but they have a spirit week that's happening the are going to be bringing the red ribbons um like they usually do on the first presentation that as well so lots of
048field trips coming up that we're excited about so again just with the holidays you know getting ready if you have any donations that um you'd like to donate to our um what do you call it our holiday house yes so um please bring your items in and again be thinking about sponsorships and auction items for our foundation cow so the foundation's at a new place Laura's that to the yeah you come yeah you come you guys come Kelly and Drew this time I I was there about years ago I was there okay world of imagination we'll see you this year we're gonna make S o'clock any discussion Laura we just pass it on now what's that anything you want to talk about just cup are the fourth graders going to the net recer this year
049have you got your letter for the net record I not letter an email not that we know of we haven't received any information yet supposed to have been here I've seen the big sign at the bottom of the hill usually the fourth graders have been going so I didn't know it his historically the middle school students had gone every other year I think they went last year so this might be a year I know that the fourth graders went last good they team a different fourth grade team I just got a lot of students that are performing in it are um any of our eth graders going to be taking the PSAT we have plan we have to reach out because there's a few things that we have to check with s the school district
050that they do but sometimes we they tell us kind of at end approaching the testing window closes with that we're going to recess the signs of paperwork thank you make sure you read every page before you Che dver suan Summers [Laughter] you're we're
