we are back from our executive session so you guys have missed our caller order um so with that we can move right into what we call the public um which leads us right to the superintendent uh report and then we moved to the reason most of you were here thank you okay good evening governing board members president and members of your parents and amazing students information to share with you all today quick update our vision admission remember everything we do and all the decisions we make are in order to accomplish our mission statement that our district will provide a community environment in which all individuals are challenged to achieve excellence in academics character and life skills our vision statement building for the future learning cooperating and caring for all which boys and girls I know
you work very hard to do them on a daily basis we are planning our summer academic support and enrichment academies so parents we did mention this last month but just want to make sure that you all know that the first three weeks of June we will have summer support and we will base the need on the nwe and Maps assessment that we take in May and we budgeted for 10 teachers out of our title Grant fund and we have nine teachers who have confirmed and wanting to participate so on their way to planning a good three weeks of Summer enrichment courses but Arizona assessment update as you know parents we've had a lot of testing by our state department so there's a schedule there on makeups and what's up and coming so we appreciate you
getting kids to bed on time getting them up making sure that they're well rested and that they're showing us what they know right that they don't get exhausted we've worked really hard on test fatigue so we think our kids are doing a really good job foreign we had a special special education review for our audit cycle on Friday March 13th so I wanted to thank Ms Mindy for her hard work and her review we had a lot of positive feedback and she will be meeting with teachers one on one and she's getting General feedback as well and our audit will take place during 24-25. also we had a first semester Awards assembly um great turnout lots of students to celebrate and I want to thank Mrs Cuevas Mr Nathan and our awesome support staff who
shows up and works beyond the Call of Duty to make it all happen you'll see some pictures there of some of our kids so we're very very proud of your semester success Jazz fourth grade musical where are my fourth grade students do we have any in here fourth grade all right okay Mr Lane you wish um thank you this is valetti for another successful grade level musical our former University did an amazing job so we are very very proud of Miss valetti and what she's done this year featuring grade level musicals to highlight our kids parent advisory we had our last meeting and we decided to move our last meeting to April because may get super hectic for everybody um but we discussed our A-Plus School of Excellence application that you will hear more about
because we are going to be putting together our application to be submitted in on Facebook will be reaching out to different community members parents and staff as well I also shared the state of College and Career Readiness at K-12 which is a report done by Zello where 122 teachers 27 leaders and seven counselors responded and the key findings were that 78 think that creating a sense of community is important or very important and successful College and Career ready at work and um that we have great Community involvement you know when we have our family nights our literacy nights our math nights um it truly is a community effort and when we think about all the community members that support fundamental through tax credit through donations um it's incredible so we are well on our way
to attributing to this community also 55 of respondents felt strongly that Community Support was a key factor in helping students achieve future success and it was interesting because the top four indicators for Success Beyond High School were all around Community Support Workforce Readiness social emotional learning competencies and grades so when you think about our goal to produce well-rounded children who are College and Career ready grades was actually the fourth indicator right because a lot of times as parents and teachers we feel that sometimes the grades don't truly reflect the ability of our kids because we do know that our kids are good characters they are critical thinkers and sometimes it's not demonstrated in the grades that they receive so the report clearly supports and justifies our Avid efforts in College and Career Readiness and working
closely um in Avid to close that opportunity gap for all students K-12 so we do have copies of the report if you'd like to see it board members you have it there in front of you and um we can actually scan this report into um a link in our next newsletter for you to have as well for reference okay National paraprofessional day we celebrated last week so just a huge thank you to all of our parapros our programmatic assistance and playground monitors and preschool parent Pros who work so hard to keep our students learning and providing the extra security and safety of our students and we truly do expect them to be the eyes and the ears of our cult family in terms of letting us know what's going on as teachers are busy teaching
and focused on standards we depends a lot of non-parent Pros so I think I fried maybe 120 tacos for them on Thursday to come through and kids you can see they've made posters and cards for them that were very well appreciated by our parents so thank you boys and girls for helping us make that day special for them Transportation update congratulations to Tom and Josette for becoming our newest members of the Continental Transportation family also a state that transportation and software is being upgraded and will go live on 526 at the end of May so it is replacing our current software that we've had the new platform is supposed to be user-friendly and easier to navigate and Mr main is going to work through all the bugs and keys from me to get us ready

help out she's a true team player Maureen is always thinking of others staff and students she's very thoughtful and a generous person if there is a need Maureen always contributes in some way she's always ready to help and goes above and beyond for this thank you we're going to add a couple words ourselves here [Music] um Marine is probably one of the bravest nurses that I've ever worked with she was brave enough to stand with us as an Administration to keep our school open during covet I know that wasn't this year but for her being willing to stand with us be creative think of the different strategies that we could use working with Pima County day in and day out and all the reporting that she did during those covered years that was required by
the county for us to stay open countless hours like for poor husband we thank him too Joe is here because she would have to take those reports home because she couldn't get them done during their school day crack job and we're at nights and weekends to make sure that we can open again on Monday so honestly Your brave is one of the most dedicated individuals that I've had the pleasure to work with and I really appreciate her her dedication her time not only the continentalism organization but the staff and students held well and safe foreign had that she truly is the woman of all trades because she's a great nurse she's a great caretaker she's a great cook she baits she cooks she she rides the tractor during campus cleanup day so I just really
appreciate Maureen for her willingness to always step in and help get the job done and again also Joe her husband for supporting her and allowing her and also supporting us and being here on campus on different occasions so thank you both but thank you Maureen we really appreciate you thank you I would like to say thank you too because you always have a smile on your face you're always making us laugh but you are a very thoughtful person and it's good for students to hear this about their staff members and their teachers and their nurse because they're great role models here on our campus too so thank you and um Mrs Gracia got nominated she's one of our teachers she's our kindergarten teacher unfortunately she wasn't able to make it tonight but we will make
sure that we honor her at one of our upcoming staff meetings so congratulations to Mrs Garcia she was very honorable foreign t-shirt did you get your t-shirts and thank you for everything you guys are free okay so you got everybody's welcome to stay and see all the rest of the exciting meeting or um okay thank you [Music] for a second any comments [Music] and that leads us questions for you tonight you have the district financial report I believe that was accurate as of 8.4 um I overheard any questions that you may have on the district finances you just can't get that seven six going there I can but it would be wrong I'll miss the lady anybody have a motion to approve the district financial report a second okay any discussion okay yes this is
somebody else yes Mr mcgibbon yes yes a new business day the annual superintendent summative evaluation that we went over in executive session um I need a motion to approve as discussed in the executive I'll make that motion to approve the evaluation as discussed previously in the example session a second okay any discussion Mrs left Weaver yes thank you and 11b the 301 plan for next year so with this plan um we have looked at it and this is first draft so we wanted to see if the board members had any thoughts on it what we have done is since we have early release Wednesdays every Wednesday which was not the case two three years ago a lot of the 301 committee work was after hours three to four o'clock and we realized that it's not
um it's quality versus quantity of hours and time so you'll see that some of the Committees the way we've structured Wednesdays because we do have professional development we do have data digs we do have planning meetings and professional development for teachers during that time that that is their that is the primary role of the teachers in terms of teaching and learning and so we've kind of eliminated we've eliminated the curriculum committee the admin advisory committee because those will happen throughout our Wednesdays and early release with key people because we were kind of just working more towards compliance rather than commitment there are a few things as we look at the language that we would like to change just to kind of make it a little bit more positive and not so punitive because as you
go through the document and there's a lot of highlighted areas of must mandatory required and and it's all about accountability and so we just wanted to tweak some of the language and we will bring it back to you for next month with blue lines on what we've added in red light work being taken off but one example naive you can scroll a little bit to the next page you'll see on the Chrome page where it says be responsible for their activity some of that language is not necessary and we do Post our 301 plan on our website so we do want it to to be more positive when you see at the bottom where it says staff enrolled in online classes are not exempt from track meet participation so we are going to to me
one more time with the career ladder via the 301 steering committee to clarify some of this and if you scroll another one Miami um go back on top where it says administrators cannot assign alternative duties for any category that the administrator the building principle does have to have input into this plan so we're going to change recommend to the committee that we change that verbiage to the site principle along with the 301 steering committee that will assign alternative duties because we understand that life happens emergencies happen and you know you could be an outstanding Rockstar teacher but if unfortunately something happens there's always something that we can do to um assign them an alternative Duty so the point of clarification is not good you're asking for approval of concept rather than specifics because this is
a draft right right so we just wanted you to approve the concept and the purpose of kind of what we've eliminated it'll be replaced by an actress yes yes so it's really still I think just a discussion yeah it's still a discussion realm we don't really have to vote on it today because we will vote on the final one but I did want you to have an ability of time to discuss the drafts those sound like a pretty good ideas soften it was on okay that was just a discussion do you really any discussion questions let me roughly what's that sorry what's that going to be the amount so they come out with the preliminary figure for weighted student account [Music] um we haven't put anything together on what that's actually going to be it
didn't look like it was an increase though over over this year okay I want to say it was 757 dollars per weighted student account where this year it was already around 7 40. so it's gone up a little bit and about how long is that funded for in the future um it was just recently passed by the legislature so I believe I don't believe it has a sunset on it since it was renewed by the legislature I have to I'd have to double check into it but I don't think there's a Sunset date okay great so we'll bring back a revised and then the second read of the amended more policy so we presented this policy last month and we had since received more information and clarification from our attorney on what um the suggestion
was so we added at the end here that last sentence on each request for such a league of absence shall be in written applications stated the purpose about um this is the one before that a request for Diva Baptist shall not be denied by the district if the employee is entitled to believe under the family medical leave act all other applications for leave of absence may be granted or denied by The District in its sole discretion was there another part that was that I was in blue can you go down to the other people oh okay and so here we go so we can see where we eliminated and it says the district if the leap of absence the district shall not guarantee the placement of an employee to the same position held before the
leave convinced and then there's the final sentence that was added for longer than the 12-week period right right okay and you think that'll come back this final next meeting yes and on to the Autumn report financial statement all right so we got our audit finally completed we got it done on time and uploaded Everybody by the March 31st deadline um this was a good audit we had a it was a better object in the previous years um just to kind of give you a high level overview there were 170 questions on the shares of it of which we had 24 findings three of those findings are duplicate findings meaning that they were in there more than once and two of the findings were corrections to the previous years of it so if you remember in
the previous years on it there's a finding in here for overstating expenditures on our bond well that is because the previous year we had the understatement to make that right you know so we knew that that was coming um I don't know if you've all had a chance to look at it but I will go ahead and kind of open it up to any questions that you may have um some of the findings that we had um so we incorrectly coded 626 dollars to transfer out in within a Federal Grant and we've miscoded the revenue from Title One into title two so that's one of the findings that we received um so we every month we reconcile our cash with the County Treasurer's Office at the end of the year I missed one account so
we gotta finding that one as well uh let's see what else is on here Craig is here sir I think it's a major and minor findings are all findings are considered equal so there are there you come to a point where findings where if you remember last year with some of the cash that we had that were trying to get fixed where we had um one I forget what they're called I'm trying to think of it I can't remember the term but we didn't have any of those this year the major things yeah yeah yeah none of those that's why none of the big stuff you know we had a couple minor things that we had to put together corrective action plan for and that's because we hadn't corrected 100 of something that was done
on the previous audit and that and we knew that was going to happen because you know the audit takes place Midway through the year so we know that it's probably going to follow us in a different spot into the upcoming year so those findings are actually downgraded from those major ones to minor and then the ones that we have here on this Swiss report are all very very minor so you either make the corrections immediately or have a protocol to make that happen that's sufficient um the finance that you're going to find in here are are findings that you're going to find in just about any District um for example um for all the auxiliary operations receipts that they reviewed we have one that wasn't deposited to the bank on a timely basis so we've
got seven days from the time ever to receive a check most likely that it's one of the ones where it didn't get a stamp put on under a date received on it so that's one of those ones that you're going to find in every District um we'll find that every year it's just because we have humans dealing with processes sure um uh from one of five cash receipts received the district did not prepare a daily sales summary to reconcile sales to actual cash collected so I don't she didn't get into specifics of what the item was so if it was a snack bar we didn't have the beginning and ending inventory with it if it was tickets that we were selling we didn't have a beginning and an ending you know number of our tickets
it was one of those ones that's just going to be found everywhere um yeah there's really there's to be honest there's really nothing major in this audit I mean I'd be more than happy if you haven't had the opportunity to go through it I'd be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have are they going to come in this year like they did last year we can discuss it or that's on my own reports we did it last year because we knew that we had those major and we wanted to have them there to be able to just have that discussion with you but this year there was nothing major so good work I don't think you're right thank you sir it's not me it's everybody else all right everyone else good
work okay this is an action item to approve it which doesn't just mean we have to approve it so it can go back to this to the Auditors doesn't mean approval it's an acceptance yeah streets so I'll make a motion to accept the audit as provided by the second okay any more discussion this is Mr Mr McKinnon yes can you take us to the employee benefit proposal um we'll probably need a little uh clarification around I heard it a couple times I still need to hear it again okay so pretty much everything that you heard is already out the window we were trying to get our rates reduced by trying to buy down some of our deficit um with at the January uh Financial reports with the with our insurance statements we were underfunding our
health insurance by seventy eight thousand dollars um part of that is we we got rid of the gold plan coming into this school year and we still have run out costs with the gold plan of over 74 000 so that that helped go into our our rate increase so we tried to buy down um 80 000 worth of our deficit and it came back I can't remember it was either late last night or earlier this morning that we couldn't do that so we are looking at a 15 increase in our health care benefits um the district is still looking at taking care of Everybody's Health Care this year as well it is going to add about seventy thousand dollars in expenses just with the increase in itself based solely on how everybody is enrolled today
so once we actually have open enrollment that number could go up it could go down based upon how people you know sign up for their benefits so out of the three plans you know the hike it up will helpline is still the lowest we will still fund um into everybody's health savings accounts the difference between the highest premium and the lowest price so but that will still move forward with that but you know we aren't going to look at 50 percent increase in our health care costs completely this is objective okay and this is an action item you need a motion to recruit well there's two recommendations right this is so we we put together when we put the packet together we put together two different types of recommendations one being that we just approved
a 15 in percent increase and if we were able to to get the a lower rate that that would also be approved and then the other one was to have you guys to approve up to a 15 increase is nothing higher both of those recommendations do the same um my suggestion is if you are looking to approve this proposals are just approved the 15 increase up to yes captain yeah because the way it's dated is two separate it was a four and since he had the information on um whoever makes the commission it will give which option you'd like well I think it seems I will make the motion to uh approve a not to exceed 15 is that fair that's fair increase in our pictures like a second discussion so this means if we
come back and it's 18 it's already set at 15. so that's worse case so it could be 10. it's going to stay at 15. everything that we've tried so far to reduce just it's not they're not going to reduce it because remember if you remember right last year we we were able to talk them out of a 15 or well it was higher than 15 when I started it was 18 last year when we talked them into a seven that's right okay so that was my my reevaluating our plan and getting rid of those richer plans and just coming into those two silver plans and high deductible planes we still have the same amount of plants it's just we got rid of the Richer plants like the gold plant so the gold plan was uh
now we're plastic or to work with plastic or paper yeah okay but the question becomes again with with thousand dollars more in the district and at what point do we say this is all we can afford an employee has to kick in more and contribute I think the company yeah yeah so that's one of the things I mean there's not a whole lot we can do with salaries but but if we're able to you know take care of our folks by taking care of their health care benefits you know that's that's at least something because when you're looking at buying up into plans can you open up the the plans yes go down to the bottom of that page [Music] okay blow that up because I can't see I'm blind or something like that you're
talking about the premium yeah yeah so just by looking at the renewal portion of it the difference between the high deductible Health Plan and the classic silver which is our highest expense you know you're still talking 120 dollars so I'm saving our employees down for a month by taking over their health care and them not having to worry about it it also helps to reduce when an employee is looking to add on a spouse or a child or a family because I'm not going to be funding their account the lower rate so just by adding that much in their premium for that child or that family plan or that spousal plan also comes down because I'm going to be funding it yet everything will be funded at that higher 597 amount okay so even if
somebody has the value of silver plan and they choose to have their children so that's a 9 38 premium okay instead of them paying the difference between the 530 and the 908 they're paying the difference of the 597. in the 508. so is it a fair statement to say that that is a 7 200 roughly dollar benefit to everybody to these employees I didn't do the math but I mean more or less yeah 600 times 12 right for anybody that's that's you know that's going with a family plan or I mean that's a substantial yes yes and I'd like to keep that going as long as as possible yeah I agree but I just uh it's it's it's very different when you have employees to say well you know you're giving getting health insurance but
it's when you put a number on it it gives it a little bit more substance it's like wow that's that's substantial and that's would be normally coming out of someone's pocket yes and we continue to do through as big they have different lovely incentives in terms of tips to exercise to a you know mental mental health to um not so much screen time I mean they always have monthly tidbits on how to keep healthy and I think we have to continue to push teledoc versus going to the doctor every time you feel but I think we need to be more transparent with our staff to let them know because we're really operating on a deficit and it's by usage of our group that will contribute to that and obviously there's some things that can't be
avoided and illnesses that come up that increase but unnecessary use is directly related to whether or not they in the future we can afford to do it exactly well but part of what she's saying though is that with that run out on the gold plane the gold plan had no co-pays in the gold plan didn't have any skin in the game for the employee if you if you understand what I'm what I mean by that yeah right so there were no co-pays there's you know basically nothing out of pocket so they could go to the emergency room for a runny nose and yeah you know so when Gallagher are the folks that helped us out with our our plan had just said well you know you could offer another value to bronze plan and it's
a there's another offering but but looking at the value of bronze plan I don't know why anybody would go from one of the plants that we currently have to a plant like that I mean it's a hard sell for me to tell I asked somebody to go from a value silver plan to a value bronze plan when we would the out-of-pockets are higher because the co-pays are hired it's quite lyrical yeah so yeah so we're bringing this to you before the renewal without adding on a value bronze plant we're just looking to keep what we've got with the 15 increase in bridging so I I have a question so we owe about 80 000 no 78 000 yes and then we're going to increase 70 000. a 70 000 increased via 15 Edition no well
it's no no so we're we just we just continue to operate at that deficit um every month we get a report that shows our usage versus what our our premiums cover and we're constantly running at 140 and 170 percent of what our premiums collected are um a lot and it's a rolling 24 months so a lot of those months still have that that goal plan on it and that's what they're basing our increase off of so the 15 is just adding an additional what I'd say say seventy thousand dollars to our sixty eight thousand dollars to our annual print on speaker 64 98 and 65 000. so it's just adding that to our premium that's all it's going to go up to so it's going to go from the four 33 a year to 498
a year the only the biggest downside of this is that with that size of the increase the amount being able to go back into an HSA would likely be reduced just because of how much more debt we have to pay so I think this year we were putting 1200 into each employee's HSA account so we haven't done the math yet you know but it could be the same it could be a little bit less it just depends on where we're sitting after the open enrollment period and we did have a lot of employees sign up for HSA this year which is what we really wanted to to do to help us with that that savings portion of it how many staff members do we have who do not take our school Insurance what we offer
how many so we currently have 48 55 employees that accept our insurance some of our staff and just want to remind you that don't qualify if they don't meet the 30 hours a week right so a lot of events will work less than 30 hours don't but so the other men we have 55 who so this amount the cost is based on 55 employees so these problems we have about 30 or 20 or so who are on outside insurance coverage by their spouses at all so we're roughly a thousand dollars right 70. right yeah okay and I'm Sorry Miss Amorosa I know that you had a question or didn't get to ask you no no I did ask it okay yes and as you see the upcoming end of the year school events how many
days do we have left yeah that's what I said I'm sure he knows yeah okay [Music] um but the two that just jump out to me just for fun is the um the Kinder promotion and the eighth grade promotions are Priceless they can bring a box of Kleenex to the kindergarten it's just precious invites to the promotions um for you to have on your calendar and also May 10th is career day and so if you have any special speakers if you want to come share your expertise I know that this is the Bieber is already on our schedule to come be a presenter so we we love that day but if you can come in and just join us for lunch and thank all our speakers that come in we have about 40 to 50
speakers who come in on career day I'm very excited about I'd like to be notified yeah okay I will let you will have a taco Tuesday before our board meeting okay okay yes all right so that will take us to so this is where we'll start now um Laura at the end just any miscellaneous comments if you want to see the agenda item on a future meeting or pass or something before we sign up stack of vouchers that's good thank you it's fresh out of wisdom I think I used all mine up in the executive session so with that we will take a recess to sign some paperwork yes maybe maybe foreign [Music] a question exactly [Music] oh no we're missing a signature this was all right with a missing signature as long as there's
three look at her son okay now we are adjourned at um good job everyone nice job Mr President
