i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for i all up police mrs allen here mrs tyke here mr australia absent mr ellery here and mr here thank you i'll entertain a motion to approve the agenda please eye motion we approve the agenda do i have a second on that we have a second any discussion okay mrs allen yes mrs kais yeah mr australia oh i'm sorry he's not here it's really yeah and mr mcgibbon yes thank you agenda the agenda is passed as written anyone online from the public public okay bring no one uh any call to the public let's go to our consent agenda i'll entertain a motion to approve the consent

agenda please i have a motion and i have a second on the consent agenda any discussion okay mrs allen yes mrs kais yes mr ollery and mr mcgivern yes senator jenna passes thank you new business approval of new food service position yes part of the reason why we've asked for this special board meeting is so that we can approve two new positions within our food service department uh we currently have three eight hour positions in one four hour position we're asking the board to approve an additional seven hour position that would be a cafeteria worker and a three-hour position which would be an assistant cashier in the past prior to kobig our food service department was doing about 300 lunches a day we are currently serving north of 450 lunches a day and that does

not include any staff meals that we're providing we're averaging between 15 and 20 staff meals a day so we're we're quickly approaching that 500 meals per day just at lunch we are in the past prior to covered we were doing 75 to 100 breakfasts and we're currently serving over 200 breakfasts today so we're asking that these positions be approved not only for our staffing needs now but as the neighborhoods grow and more students come in we already have these positions in place so we're asking for approval of these two positions we're out of the food service budget food service is rather well within their funds they've they carried over almost 175 000 in the previous year um and in order to get her to spend some of that money i've asked her to look at

things like buying new ovens at 75 000 each you know so the food service department has the funds to cover this entirety okay i'll entertain a motion please on approval of the new food service positions i know that we approve the new food service position you have a second i'll check it any discussion i have a question greg you say before coven we had a certain number of meals um i understand our community is growing but when cova subsides you see this going down and if not why not so in speaking with our food service department what we are seeing is that more and more students not just because we're serving free meals but because of the the quality of the food so when when the free food subsides yes i do see us going

down but i still see us well and above that 300 meal per day mark and just having the three ladies back there to serve it because right now i'm using parapros and everything else to to to to do a complete operation on a daily basis so by having this assistant cashier i can get kids through the line faster you know and i'm not worried about having you know my last lunch of the day is getting their meals with five minutes left did that answer your question sir i mean that's fine um what what is this going to cost us on an annual basis for these additional salaries and benefits you're looking at 14 to 15 an hour 11 hours a day so we're talking an impact of 50 to 60 at most because the one

the one position will become benefit eligible so we'll have to offer that person our health insurance and things like that any further questions discussions well i think i think part of it is just because everything that we are deserving is free but you know we're also serving things that kids aren't you know getting at home for in the mornings for breakfast you know we're serving hot breakfast every morning with the occasional cold cereal but we're doing things like smoothies and things like that so we're getting we've got items that kids normally wouldn't do from home i also think that we have more students riding the bus than we did during um kobe we had parents dropping students off um right closer to the bell so now the kids are on the buses they're eating before

they go to class well i guess the question that i would want to answer is is this trending toward a food insecurity issue and possibly even a community issue but that's one thing and now why are these all free again and i'm sure you told me and i forgot the usda has deemed it that all student meals will be free for last year and again this year they haven't made a decision yet as to what they will do for for the upcoming years but you know we are serving free meals for the entire school year this year per the usda and it was really big sorry on the implications that um parents were laid off or not working and the hardship for school lunches to be purchased um that was another way for government assistance

to help families out to provide free lunch and i do remember you bringing this forward to the board i just couldn't couldn't place it but i do remember you talking about this so did um well so this didn't happen in the last four days of break is that correct no this is something that we've been monitoring for the last month or so and we've had meetings with our food service department and i also we had that meeting with ms cuevas and mr latham and within this group discussion with our food service department and the three of us we felt this is the best way moving forward to not only make sure that we can get these kids through the lines faster but also prepare for future meal this services could have been on our meeting

agenda nine days ago there was i mean this isn't like it's something that just happened in the last nine days it actually is we actually had this meeting on monday when we had that discussion when the food service manager came to us saying that she definitely needs to help sooner rather than later but you've been monitoring this ever since it started and you've noticed an increase in the number of breakfast served since the beginning of the school year so a marked increase and you've been using parapro to just try and get the luncheon served so you know that this has been a problem the personnel side my people in the cafeteria are wearing down the amount of work and the prep time put in just to get everything and then not being able to prepare

enough food and then struggling to make sure we have enough food during that last lunch you know that's that's the part that you can't see when you're just standing out there watching the lines go through so it's just the amount of stress and everything else that the folks are under that we're trying to help alleviate as well and i understand that but you know what my concern is we're having a special meeting at a time when our board doesn't normally leak and we have a board where i i know of at least three maybe four people who are employed uh and i would say that 8 30 would be considered normal duty hours and this is taking away from your time your job your superintendent's time the board's secretary's time and if we knew this

was coming i'm not sure that we need that special meeting i would just like to recommend that we try and get things in to our normal we're school of about seven countries and i uh i met with some other school board members and you know we see school boards but uh school districts that have 16 17 000 students and they're having a meeting once a month and they're having a study session once a month so for us uh four days after a meeting to have to call a special meeting to talk about something that we've we've known has been building i just don't want to see us get into that it's almost kind of like a frivolous lawsuit only it's a meeting we should have been able to address and and this is this is

really the first time hearing about this and again when i you know when i see a 150 percent increase i i think this potentially could be a big issue i don't think it's just free i think i think some of our kids may be broaching food insecurity and i think i don't know how you find out about that but stop worrying and i know our people haven't been in the classroom i've been in the classroom and hungry kids don't learn well well shelley so i you know i want to live feeding them and feeding them efficiently and i'm all in this but this sounds like an issue that we should have been made aware of and been addressing long before a special meeting that was called four days after a legume well shelley for one

we do have a way to monitor food insecurity as far as public schools can we make everyone apply for free or assisted lunches every year we really really have been pushing it this year um we're at what 41 right now so that is something that the board has been aware of also monitoring an ongoing situation and keeping it on your radar and say hey i need help right now so it sounds like our administration has done their job keeping this on their radar and moving quickly when the situation hits the fan which they have done at your request to call a special meeting for and i just want to reiterate that we primarily set the meeting so that we could approve the preschool staffing and miss tesla for after-school tutoring because that would mean that

we just interviewed and this preschool person the day of the board meeting so having to wait a whole other month for this person to start um obviously we need to finish staffing preschool this will be the last and then with miss tesla analyzing data for after school tutorials for kinder students rather than her volunteer her time for the entire month before the next board meeting we thought this would be a viable reason to have a special meeting to get these personnel people on board and then in the conversation we figured since we had had the meeting with food service that it would be a good time to put this in because we have to get the positions approved so that we can post the positions interview and come with a recommendation for our our next

meeting okay any further discussions and i've i've spent 30 years doing forecasting and so i i understand all of this and i've worked with the city's lunch program at the so i'm very saying that we just want to make sure because of questions don't see have this problem so that's the only reason that i'm i'm thinking that maybe we need a better solution well hopefully the this might take care of that any further discussion on new new food super food service positions okay mrs allen yes mrs heiss yeah mr ollery and mr mcgivern yes motion passes thank you um any governing board information no anything yeah this is guys anything yeah i hope everybody got their invitation to jcax yes i got mine okay all board members should have received an invitation to seize a

new building and everything that they're doing at jpeg uh it came in your cool email you spelled my name on i'll have a look yep i found it okay mr older anything no okay that being said turn yes please
