001At this time, we will call the December 30th, 2026. >> We're going to go with January 5th >> or January 5th. What am I reading? >> I'm not quite sure. >> I'm reading the board report. >> Like I said, I checked out for a while. January 5th, uh, school board west 34 school board meeting to order. Comments from picture to guests. None. Uh, appointment of officers. This time we will redo all that. Starting with board president. >> I'd like go ahead. You want to discuss? >> Go for it. >> Motion to keep Matt as present. I sir [laughter] favor. So uh vice president >> motion to keep Kelly as vice president. >> Second. >> Yes. Thank you. >> So one addition that doesn't always happen but is consideration of >> Keystone board. >> Yes. So,

002um, Kelly has been the Keystone representative for four years now. >> Two, two and a halfish. Two and a half, I think. >> A long time. >> Yeah. Uh, >> a minute. >> And we we now have um because she's on negotiations, free up a little bit of her time. She was looking to uh find somebody. I think we found somebody perfect for the job. >> You call nomination. John to be our Keystone repres John Lloyd to be our Keystone representative. >> I'd love to second that. >> There you go. [laughter] All in favor. The next thing we got is setting uh board meeting date and days. Um we've always had them. Well, we've actually bounced them around quite a little bit, but uh we've had them on Monday and there's such a large conflict

003with parents, principles, we everything um that we're thinking about or talking about switching them to Wednesday nights, >> the first Wednesday, >> first Wednesday. Um thoughts? I am 100% in support [clears throat] of that. It's just >> I know in my six years I've missed plenty of my sons. >> Miss someone one right now. [laughter] >> Yeah. No, I get it. And and you know it it doesn't get easier with people have younger kids coming up. It's going to >> Yep. Once they hit middle school, I >> think the only conflict is booster club. >> She said she blew. >> Okay. at the >> that's the only thing >> I mean obviously this Wednesday we got middle school basketball but >> normally we don't >> it just would be nice to have everyone here too

004to your point >> well and it's it I mean we don't need to be a horse but it is hard for for Brena and you know you're torn there as a parent and a principal >> exactly >> you know so um do we have a motion to >> a motion to move school board meeting uh board of education meetings to the first Wednesday of every month. >> Second favor >> starting in February. >> All in favor? >> Did that just make your job really hard? >> Okay. Good. >> Good. Well, I mean, you already voted, but part of the challenge also is there's so many times >> like you look at our treasures report and there's so much red because you just closed the books >> and the first Monday of the month happens to

005be the first, the second, the third, the fourth, and you haven't even >> Yeah. >> Well, and it's it gives two more days. But yeah, >> but it also be nice as a board member when we get the Friday report on Friday >> and we have the board report. So we go through it. We have a >> Monday and Tuesday. >> We have a Monday to get with you if we have a question. Now we have >> Monday. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> I don't know in terms of kids yet, but >> you will. >> Uh at this point, uh can we get a motion to approve the agenda? So moved. Second. >> All in favor. >> So motioned to approve uh these donations. Do we need to >> No, it's just there was a lot

006of them. >> Um we have uh a lot. >> Yeah, there is a lot. There's there was one donor that was going to start doing some painting in the high school gym and some stuff. They were going to try and do it over the holidays, but it just with everything >> Yeah. >> didn't get started. Just a lot of very good >> uh we get a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> I'm going to second Oh. [clears throat] >> [laughter] >> uh academic reports. >> You want to go first? >> Good evening. And um as it is board appreciation month, wanted to say thank you and appreciate you guys and welcome to both. >> Thank you very much. Um enrollment numbers are moving right now as we have kids at semester looking to change

007schools, some coming in, some some leaving. So those will continue to fluctuate a little bit here as we wait for records requests of those things to come in. Um wanted to share our kindness activities that our clubs did in December. Um we had uh two clubs that adopted families through our local churches and then um FFA made um pie blankets and then donated food to all the blessing boxes around. So it's awesome. >> Yeah, it was a very nice thing. >> Band and vocal had their winter concert was um really enjoyable. Love seeing the improvements that are going on there. And then we had our professional development today and led by our curriculum committee in the morning and they worked on um standards and just kind of checking their own standards and standards within their

008curricular areas and seeing do we have any gaps? How long has it been? Have you really sat down and looked at your standards? Which ones are getting hit a lot? Which ones are getting hit a little? Um and we found a couple gaps and some things that we can improve upon. Um and just a a you know reawakening of the awareness of where we need to be have our focus and it's kind of a first step for then when we will meet um vertically with the other buildings and how do we follow up with what middle school is led in and where are they ending and where are we starting and are there any gaps there and middle school will be doing the same thing with elementary. So, um, a process that we do every

009so often, but it's been a little bit, so it's nice to to re revisit that. Um, we did have five, um, students that will be December graduates. So, they have finished, um, all their Jeff Wash requirements. They all are planning to still walk in May um, but are either going on to college or have jobs that they are excited to get started on. And then we have five students that will have finished their high school requirements as far as their core classes and they will be taking tech classes as their electives. So they'll have a shortened schedule. Um but they're working tech in the morning and then a job in the afternoon. So that's why the big number in your 12th grade there. Um coming up we have our winter festival which is like our

010homecoming but um wrestling basketball season this year with the February home basketball games with parents senior parent and I always be in the last one. We really didn't have a Friday that worked because our wrestling girls will be at state that weekend and we didn't think that was fair to them. So we looked for time in January. We really didn't have a lot of Friday games. So we're going to try something new this year. We're going to do our crowning on a Tuesday and then have our dance on a Saturday. We'll see how it goes. Um it will be different, but I think we'll still be able to do all the the activities and all the festivities, the crownings, the pep rallies, the all the fun things with it. So, it'll just be a little

011different and it's coming up really fast. So, next week, >> um still looking to get special education paras. We are getting a few more um but they're not full-time. and they're like, "Okay, they can work Tuesdays or they'll work a morning and an afternoon and it's sporadic what their hours are." So, um, working to to cover everything there. And then I wanted to recognize Mr. Coulson um, as he's working on his transition to teaching in the business area um, and growing FBLA and esports. Um, has done a nice job with all that on his plate. You know, taking classes, teaching full-time, two clubs. This is his first year doing sport. >> Yes. >> Added that to his plate. So, um, questions. >> Very good. Thank you. >> Thank you. [clears throat] >> You just have

012to do the AD middle school. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and I apologize. In my rush, I printed off December board report. So, >> don't worry. I was on December a little bit. >> Okay. Okay. I'm just going to hang here for a second with my notes. Um, first of all, just want to say >> welcome. Glad you're here. Um, and PD today, we also had our PD. Um, pretty much ditto to what she said. We did the same thing. We just did it at the kindergarten through fourth grade uh level. Preschool joined us and they worked with kindergarten and aligning those standards to look and see where where do we want to go. One of the discussions we've had in preschool is really the only the only real academic requirement to be kindergarten ready

013is to be five by the time August rolls or a September 1st. Of course, we're not going to rest on that. How far can we take them? But they said, "Hey, what what would help in kindergarten? What what would help have them be in their best place?" And so there was there was just a mutual back and forth and we see kids that are above kindergarten expectations now do doing great work and there's some that we have room to grow. So, so that that was a nice collaboration with that team. Um, the rest of the staff, they were all they dug in and did the same things. And it was nice. I told some of the staff, you have teachers talk about when you see kids get that aha moment. But I watched teachers do

014that today. So, that was always that's nice and rewarding. Um, in particular, third grade made a discovery about something they figured out today, why third grade struggles so hard with this one concept. And it was good because even second grade was like, well, we didn't even know because it's not in their standards for some reason. So there's a skip. First grade does it, second grade does it, and third grade didn't. So they discussed through that and those were the kind of discoveries and and things that happened today. So it was it was good work. Um student enrollment wise, um I don't have set numbers for you, but I can tell you we are losing two kindergarteners. Um the class that I would really like to see grow a little bit more, I'm losing two in.

015Um but we're picking up two students, so we're going to break even on the count. We have one new second grader and one new fourth grader um return coming to Jeff West. And in preschool, we're going to be by the end of the month, we should be up by three. I have one starting for sure tomorrow and two more coming. Paperwork is coming along and and it's happening. So enrollment is going in a good direction there. Um I do want to point out that the God storehouse stuffed the bus. all the fundraisers, a total of $2496 plus the food was raised uh through all those fundraisers that we were working on. We talked about through the last couple of months. Um and our winter week night um happened just as we were having our board

016meeting last month and it was one of our largest with 500 guests. So, it was it was a big one and it was a fun night. Um junior cheer night. If you missed that one, you missed a good one because those girls really ripped it. I'll tell you, our tear squad ought to be in good shape in the years to come because they those girls I got to tell a quick story. They were doing defense clap clap defense clap clap. The ball changed hands and they just went right into offense. I looked at the tear going like they don't need us. >> So they were they were ripping it. It was a good time. So um but otherwise I'll keep tonight short unless you had any questions about anything else on my report. >> Nope.

017>> Okay. Thank you very much. >> Uh I think there isn't anything in here pressing for you guys to hang around. You want to >> take a early knife? Don't tell. [laughter] I'm going to look at the agenda, but I think >> what's your welcome to hang around. >> I glance. >> Talk about policies. >> Yeah. >> You want to learn about the Kansas school board? >> Uh Keystone update. Um, if anybody's driven through Oscaloosa lately, you'll see that there is a roof and there is framing and there is a storm shelter with a roof on it. Um, I guess they are one month behind schedule is what we're being told because of wind and rain and >> so it's going to be a little bit of catchup. Hopefully this winter cooperates and they're able

018to >> to get it together. Um, and then I'm not going to go through everything. Staffing obviously we still need Paris and the high school. It looks like elementary school is in decent shape at the moment um for today anyway. Um but I do want to touch on um the KSD director of finance has reported that the state board is recommending a $145 million increase in sped funding next year. Um he had noted that the declining enrollment statewide should enable this increase to be provided within the current allocated funding, but we've lost I want to say 15,000 students statewide in the public education system. So our hope is at least special education's hope is instead of funding less because of that fund the same and then use that excess to go towards the sped funding

019that they've haven't given us enough of for god over a decade now. Um >> so that's what we're hoping will happen. Obviously legislators are going to do what they do and fingers crossed that they listen to the people um that are talking to them. If you want to email Mr. Ellis and tell him how you feel, this would be a good time to do it. Remind him that if we could fund special ed special education more without costing any more tax dollars, this would be a good year to do that. So, I just wanted to touch on that because that it's an opportunity for them to help out sped this next year. And John, welcome. [laughter] >> Thanks. >> And we'll be getting John up to speed in the next couple weeks. And I did

020talk to Doug today about uh John taking over that board. I also want to say I do feel like it should kind of be a rotating spot because the more of us at this table who have a general understanding of what's happening at that table, the better because it is >> that's what I said. It's I really I would like to see that rotate a little bit just so more of us have a better knowledge of >> what's happening over there. It's different. >> It's an aisle. Yeah, it's very different and it's it's hard to wrap your brain around until you sit there a few times and >> and see >> one follow up on the uh the special ed funding. >> So, the state is supposed to fund it at 92% of excess. >>

021Y >> that's a long formula I'd be happy to share with you at any about 72%. If they were to fund it at the 92% that would mean a little over 300,000 for Jeff West that we're having to use general ed money >> to cover >> I mean every school district in the state is in the same position where that's the difference for us >> when we talk about assessments that's what that is >> our local assessment excess >> is in the neighborhood of $300,000 that we're having to supplement what the state isn't. >> And it's always a hard conversation every year at that Keystone table about assessments because you're balancing the needs of our district specifically, but also kind of need our district to pay more in order to cover special education teachers, the

022Teras, like we want to pay them what they're worth. In order to do that, we've got to cough up more money from here. So, it's it's a tricky balance that we're we're doing here. >> Very good. I guess we move on to board issues update with the uh architects. Take it over. So, we're kind of at a a phase now between now and March 3rd where um the role of the board is to try to keep informing updating. So, we want to welcome HTK here tonight to kind of show some updates with the uh um if people want to circle around or swing around so you can get a better view. >> So, thank you guys for having us back again. I look forward to giving you update of what we've been working on so

023far. We'll jump into the bomb projects. So, starting kind of break it up by school, try to simplify it. But you guys have seen this before. This is at the the preschool. We'll start there. Um kind of showing the kind of scope of work there different renovations we're looking at. Um we're showing kind of the renovations interior for the ADA bathrooms, the front entry and doing the new canopy. Um, we've got the the front office kind of secure entry piece of that, but then added windows to that kind of front front entry area and then some HVAC which kind of duplicates across the different buildings. Look at what that what that could be. So, before we get too far into it, all of the canopies look a little different. I did a little different flare

024to each of them. Kind of look at some different options of things that we can do or what we're what we're kind of trying to show. wanted to have a similar language across all the different buildings that we're that we're working at. So for the prek building, um we added some brick columns kind of along the side kind of give a little bit more of a colony kind of feel. We have a smaller canopy that comes off of the building that could provide kind of a rain shelter, sun shelter from from the elements along that whole drop off zone. And then we have a higher piece that mimics the the slope of the the addition that was done a few years ago. So we kind of have that same language that we're we're trying to

025duplicate there and providing this kind of red piece [clears throat] here kind of off to the side. You'll notice that in several of the other uh buildings that's kind of a piece that we're using to kind of tie all the buildings together. So, it's just a metal panel skin that goes over the brick. Just kind of give it just a little bit of design flare. Have kind of some branding that was very very much Jeff West, the kind of bright red color. You look, you notice the signage between the two. This sign is pretty similar to what's currently up at that building. So, it's kind of calling it like a banner sign that goes over the front entry doors. And then the image on the right shows some kind of diecast letters that are on

026the red panel that uses that for the the sign of the building, but then also the address. So those just kind of two different ideas of um a way that we can kind of do that. Again, we'll look at similar look for each of the buildings. Kind of a minor design element, but just something that kind of helped kind of foster some discussions. These tonight are really just concept concepts that are put together that as we start to share information share additional information about the bond have some of these concept imageries images shared in there just so people can start to understand um you know some of the changes are going to be HBAC and classroom renovations or internal but these these front entry canopies um they're going to be a bigger um a bigger

027impact a bigger create a bigger kind kind of street presence um at each of the buildings. And so just sharing some of that concept imagery. Later we'll share um just some of the overallformational pieces that'll be um start to be developed for this campaign. But um just starting to share some imagery, some concepts around it. Um we talk later about schedule. Um these are concepts. Now, when we get into once the bond passes and get into design, we're going to work through the ins and outs and really do um do all the programming necessary to understand, you know, is this exactly the right option or is it is there other options to consider and develop around? >> Yeah. So, it looks like it's refined and this is what we're going to be doing. This is

028not a final design. This is just kind of the initial concept and there'll be more developments as we go along. So jumping to the uh elementary school again, similar idea of the secure entry on the front of the building, new entry canopy. This plan also shows the additions to the east and west wings. So to add classroom space to to the building and those thought being we've got some revenues we can develop for that, but essentially we're just matching what's there. So we're adding two classrooms. Both the sides of the building are actually different. Um, one side has a pitched roof, the other one has a flat roof. They have different type of brick, so it's going to be interesting doing that, but we should be able to match those pretty well. So, the date

029then looking at the front entry canopy for this one. Again, something a little a little different, but just kind of a simple flat uh kind of flat flat plane, two columns on either side to support that. And then we're shown with kind of triangle pieces that help kind of hold that up. again showing the same signage looking at the banner side that goes over the front entry as what the current preschool has or if they put that over more on the gym side to kind of take it away from the front entry put it a little bit higher maybe we can make that sign a little bit bigger since we're not kind of squishing it right over the front entry and then again the kind of same red elements kind of tie the buildings together

030we could also place the sign then for the kind triangle piece that is kind of holding back the structure of the canopy. We've got that as kind of a perforated metal. We can do kind of a cutout logo either the JW Brad's got in his his shirt or maybe Tiger Head. You know, there's kind of different options that we can do with that to really kind of add some fun design to it. Going to the middle school. Um again, a lot of [snorts] HVAC repairs for this one and upgrades. Um the entry canopy on the front of the building. We also have a drop off canopy kind of on the south end. That's where the pick up and drop off lane is. That'll be that'll match the similar language that we're doing for the front

031entry. And then we also have a four classroom edition off the west side shown in blue. This one uh the preschool and the elementary the secure entry renovations are fairly small because the office is kind of situated in a good position. So, we're not as heavily involved with the renovation for the security portion, but for the the elementary, it's on the back side of the library. So, we're kind of shifting some spaces around. So, you see the orange spaces are ones that would be kind of flopping into those spaces so we can have more of the security feel. And then looking at the front entry for that one, again, taking those same kind of fan shapes, the triangle shapes, taking that plane out for the canopy. If you look at the front of the middle

032school, there's two different doors and it's very symmetrical building. It's really hard to distinguish between which one's the front door and signs on one side that tells you what building it is, but then the actual checket door on the other side. So, thought being is now we've got a canopy on one side. We make it very apparent which side is the actual entry point. Put the sign over to that same same port, same side, so that way you're directed in. And we've added some windows uh to that corner. Kind of see them in this view here. to that front office. So then you kind of have a view out to to the the street for that drop area and go to the high school. Um again showing some renovations for the security entry. The office

033for this one is right at right at the front door. So that'll be fairly minor just storefront and that could take the place of just replacing the storefront so we can create the man trap that we need for the secure entry. Got some HVAC. We've got a little bit of parking on the white LED light collision and some of the renovations we've talked about before with kind of the list of of needs. I'm looking at the kind of the square in the middle. That one is the what we'll be looking at as you're entering here shortly too. Taking the existing space. You probably walked through it whenever you came into this room. There's a bunch of big bank of all academic lockers in the hallway. Thought that that could be a good opportunity to kind

034of revitalize that space that maybe not utilized very well. And then also the big big thing here that's kind of a small blue square in the south end would be the the addition we need for the kitchen. So making that a centralized kitchen we need to plants a little bit bigger have a little bit more directly still. So then your centralized kitchen could be at the high school. All the other schools would have some kind of upgrades to make them function. >> We have a question. Well, I I thought we exact the removal of blockers. Didn't we discuss that? >> Yes, but ultimately it was left in time >> because I thought with the price point we were like we could use that money somewhere else. >> Well, we could essentially make that not I

035mean make it not the prior not a priority right off the bat. >> Okay. Yeah. >> We could lower the priority. Yeah, the only um so he's going to show you a a rendering. If if you guys decide to do that, I would just maybe not show that rendering because it is kind of an impressive piece and it might be noticed if it was said we're going to do this and then you didn't later. You don't respond that. >> Yeah, >> I just thought for the price point I thought >> it was discussed. It was absolutely discussed and there was some back and forth and ultimately it was left in but you still So looking at the front entry again, kind of doing the triangle pan shapes to kind of hold the structure. You those

036could be some kind of perforated panel whether it's the JW or Tiger. This one we took the plane kind of flat plane out and then flared it up again. So then it kind of has a little bit more of a grand entry. It's the high school. It's a little bit taller space. You got bigger kids. So want to have elevated space so it didn't feel too cramped. Expanded the canopy so that it covers that entire entryway instead of the current one which is just the center set of doors. So we made the canopy bigger and then the kind of column on the right showing that kind of red kind of piece that ties the buildings together. You had banner sign could be off to one side of the flag pole. Maybe it's centered up underneath

037the canopy or the the image on the right. It's kind of tuck tucked into the building. Kind of wraps up. This is the current locker space. Kind of see the before and after. So, this is not the exact same view, but a pretty similar view between those. The position of where you're viewing essentially blowing out most of those and taking a bang of walkers that instead of this wall that's blank actually has the column have their lockers to that side. Get rid of the rest of them. And now we can create a kind of a new common space and expanded common space for the cafeteria. Um we've got kind of in the gray box over on the far right. That would be a team spirit store. Be a good good spot that would be close

038enough to the gym. You guys can utilize this as extra extra space for concessions and actually those are not up for during games or new staff uh to kind of sell self seller. I think Brad had mentioned one of the teachers kind of working with students on some classes that could be utilized out of that that they can actually use that for creating some merchandise for the school. >> One of the things go back to that one of the things that we talked about with these kind of um u extra spaces or confused common spaces is that you know ultimately they can be they can serve a multitude of of purposes. It can be opportunities for students to get out of the classroom and kind of study in small groups in those settings. Um, it

039can be a a passing place where students can can hang out or or um mill about a little bit. Having the u the west the the spirit store in that area gives students an opportunity to, you know, business classes or um opportunities to sell merchandise there. and it gives a good just a place for or a home for that um that component to live in. So I think as we you know if this ultimately is something that is is low prioritized or or not but I think when we do get into design there's a lot of kind of options of really understanding how you want how the school wants to to use this space and of what the possibilities are for for the kind of functionality of it. Is this a trend on schools of

040our age that have been built around the era that ours is built? Is this a trend where they're whether this is what they're starting to do? >> Get rid of lockers about using the pockets and they sit there. >> I mean, is this more than >> Are they creating hangout spaces? How much downtime, Rhonda? Do they have to hang out? That's what I was curious about. >> Yeah. Glasses >> like time break. You have lunch. But um I was also thinking not so much as a hangout space and maybe a less structured instructional space. >> I know they don't have that much time in between classing periods all the time >> morning break [laughter] 15inut morning break >> like group projects you go out there like little breakout spaces stuff like that. Yeah, the floor

041plan we have here, it's kind of a little hard to >> kind of a larger presentation wall. We have this this furniture that can be configured in multiple ways. So, we have it shown as kind of a C-shape that's gathered around a presentation. You can also kind of break it up and make it more serpentine and can be individual learning, but essentially that would be this space here. This is that furniture piece. You can actually use that as a presentation for or take a class out there to do presentations. >> Breaking out. >> It's been interesting to go back at the schools and see how they're being used. Obviously, we weren't, you know, when this first started happening, we weren't sure how they were used, >> but uh they really are being utilized well and

042you are seeing kids hang out a little longer and do homework projects together or break out classes used academically. I've been impressed. I think furniture has changed over the years. I mean, this is what we all lived with. Talk about how when you were in school, this is what we all lived with. Um, it's not like that anymore. And so, it's nice to have flexible furniture, too. You can move some of this around to make it a group of two or four or six. Um, and again, that presentation space we see used a lot. You can sit on the couch or you can sit at a taller chair behind there. Um, and be a part of that presentation. >> Very good. >> Jump into the egg building. There's a few needs there with just kind

043of some finish upgrades. Exterior, we're looking at just kind of reskinning that. So, some of the some of the metals kind of faded, some paint's chipping on them. So, just looking at a reskin doesn't take a lot to really provide a a nice little wow factor. Instead of going back with just one color, we can start changing the color of those panels fairly economically without uh causing too much of an economic hit. So, this is just showing a couple options. There's, you know, several other ones that we can kind of go through, but you go as simple as just changing a couple couple colors or on the right, we've got the kind of south west side that kind of faces the softball field that could be put a big JW logo on it or something.

044So, >> there's some good opportunities there to really freshen that up and provide a nice nice building for you guys. >> Yeah, I thought the the inside building is really what we needed to focus on, too. And it says minor renovations. Isn't it pretty rough? I >> think it says light innovations like lighting. >> Oh, okay. I was like, wow. >> And I think I changed it on here to interior renovation light. >> We have it as a light renovation. So like a finish. >> So it' be updated to finishes. >> Finishes >> and a lot of it is u is I think the the electrical components in it, but also just cleaning it out and kind of reorganizing. Okay. >> The space. There's decent space there. Good space. So it's um and ultimately um

045you know part of it is getting the the the classrooms that are there getting those back in the in the middle school so that um you know they can then dedicate those classrooms to the egg programs. >> Do you guys have um like an idea of what that could look like? Have you guys drawn that up yet or anything inside of that? >> Not >> that was the one I was curious about. >> Not we haven't we haven't rendered anything or drawn anything. Mhm. >> in there. But >> yeah, that one wasn't really moving walls. >> Okay. >> It's going in and upgrading and cleaning. >> So, the art part, would that just be like a classroom for like >> the I guess things they would go over there for like stuff. >> I think

046the art was going to move back. >> I know the art would move classroom. So, I wasn't sure what they would do with that. >> This one here would just be a classroom dedicated to >> Oh, okay. Perfect. They just take that classroom back over. >> Okay, perfect. >> So, functionality, you've got actually a pretty good We've had we've had instances where these buildings have either been broken up or they've been a series of additions over the years, but you've got a pretty nice setup of with this large shop area and then these two >> kind of directly adjacent classrooms. So sometimes it can be even, you know, maybe there's some windows between here so that there's better visual between the classrooms and the shop space, but but generally you have um good spaces there.

047It's um kind of getting out some of these maybe competing functions in there and just overall cleaning up and kind of reorganizing. A lot of that will come with new electrical in there because you'll be able to have electrical drops and it'll be kind of more >> comp and just overall efficiency >> of the space >> needs it you want. And I think the last ones we had in the list was the track. I was I have a rendering for that. Just kind of an overview of the the plan just looking at expanding that from a six lane track to need. >> Um so I made a couple notes here. The can we change the low voltage? Can we define that a little better for people when they see you know we had asked what

048low voltage is. >> Yep. >> Can we make that we call it improvement? >> Just be it. Yeah. general. >> Yeah, I see that there and I saw it before. But that and then to go back to the middle school, you don't need to go back to middle school, but we have infrastructure repair. It's on that one side that is an extensive infrastructure repair where we're adding the classroom. Any way we could describe that a little >> more detail? >> A little more a little more detail, but you know, not too much because they see infrastructure repair. We're slapping or two classrooms on the end of it. Well, we're doing that for part of the reason is to to fix that wall, that floor. >> We can add a bullet point that has that that

049speaks specifically to u a lot of this money is is in the middle school. I mean as a middle school it needs a lot. >> Yeah. >> So we do have that that exterior waterproofing slab and wall structural issues that is really this area here where we're addressing it by knowing that we'd have to excavate and get into this where it made sense to put that addition in that location. So >> I mean we're doing mass indoor excavation. We're cutting whole floor and digging out the floor. >> Yeah. >> About 30 in big. So it's, >> you know, it's a little more expensive, but that that's what made that the candidate for that. >> Yeah, we can, yeah, you're right. We can word that a little differently. >> So people maybe it's even, you know,

050>> coloring or adding something to this that >> Yeah. So people see >> Yeah. >> Yep. >> And a lot of times there's opportunities, you know, through this process, we'll develop a frequently asked questions. >> Yeah. Um and those things can be um questions that you know that you all have received about what are we doing there and you know what are the structural concerns with the middle school and >> you can use more of a narrative form to um to spell out what that means. >> Well, it's like at elementary schools no no news that we're short on classrooms down there the everybody knows that. But well the middle school it hasn't been such a topic >> I think >> and now we're now we're dumping >> probably >> bunch of money. Yeah. And

051it has been >> Yeah. But it's very >> I think we'll have opportunity to I'll talk a little bit about this but to you know we'll have some town hall meetings. We'll do the FAQs. Um if we focus on um the middle school on some social media stuff focused on the elementary school. Break it up into pieces. People attention spans are very short. >> Um and so they're not going to read every word of every school. So if you break it up into littleer chunks, they're more likely to pay attention. So that would be that would be helpful to And the the FAQ form sheets are good because you can literally just have questions and answers and somebody can sit and read through all that information to to get a better idea of of um

052what the entirety of the scope is. Whereas these are we stay fairly high level just so that they don't Yeah. It's not all words. And I think one of the things we talk about is it gives people information the way they best perceive it. Um, and so when I talk about it for short attention spans, I'm speaking of myself. Um, and so there are also people out there who want to read the thousand words. Um, and so and I think some of that is our older generation of times and so if that they're more likely to read the newspaper. Um, we've already I think had an article in the newspaper that probably opportunity for another one. And so whatever people want to receive, let's give it to them that way. So, um, I think we'll

053try and provide information in a lot of different ways for people. >> Well, while you're here, and we're going to talk about later in Janu. >> Yeah. And we've got >> Do you ever have the vindicator or anything come to those? >> Um, yeah, absolutely. >> Yeah. No reason to. And I think >> Yeah. How do you lose those? >> Well, and they're a a friendly group. Um, not all of our newspapers are friendly groups. >> Yeah. >> Um, and so big difference. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, and so I think it's good to, you know, invite them and, you know, and every newspaper is looking for a story. I promise you. >> Every TV station needs a >> Well, they want to be involved for a good reason. I mean, they are good. when they

054want they want to be involved for >> and they positive story. >> I think you are partnering with them and they're also um helping to advertise your town hall meetings because inevitably um you will advertise that town hall meeting and every venue you know how to and you're going to have a whole bunch of people come up to you and say you never told me about this and so it's a good way to get it out there even further and I'm sure that they'd be happy with that which is great. Very >> good. I'll talk through some more of that stuff too. I'll hop there. >> Yes. >> Okay. We're talking a little bit about um >> so we talked a little bit about um schedule and here is kind of a highle schedule. Obviously

055we're kind of getting started right now. Um we've talked to Brad about um some comm community members that might be helpful in getting the word out and what that role might look like >> and hopefully meeting with them to to get that going. um staff meetings. I think you guys are already doing that as a district. Um talk about those town hall meetings. Um ideally if you do one in January and one in February, um that's helpful. And so we start looking at those dates. Do one if the middle school or the elementary school or high school, whatever that looks like, wherever you think will be best attended. Um start being at some of the games and activities. And then February, again, another one of those town hall meetings. um start to pay attention to

056uh some of the dates that are important. Um a lot of times the last day to register to vote is I think is it three weeks? >> Um it should be around the 10th of February. Um it's the last day to register to vote. So make sure people are aware of that. Um understand when those advanced ballots go out and that will be between the 11th 13th of February. So getting with um the first to make sure we understand when that date is so people want that advanced ballot and a lot of times we have um I'm trying to think what you oh just finished with Shiny Heights they they had a lot of uh like freshman in college and sophomore in college that were registered to vote but weren't here during the vote and

057so they got advanced ballots and they were able to participate and that's also just kind of a cool thing for them to be able to do. So kind of get that message out there. Um and then Marsh and we go to the next one. I get um construction delivery methods schedule. Uh Brad asked us to talk a little bit about what happens after the bond passes. Obviously, we don't have everything drawn and ready to go. Um because that would cost a lot of money and that doesn't make sense before the bond vote. Um so the next job would be selection of of a construction manager and we'll talk about that here a little bit. Um and then once that is done or we'll be working while that's being done but that design period will be

058six to eight months. Um during that time that's when we really drill in. We're going to you know ask more questions about how there's canopies outlets really talk to a lot of the principles and teachers and building administrators to really kind of get in the weeds on some of that. Again some of it is still high level like not having every detail about the shop quite yet. We want to wait until we can really like dive in and start working with those administrators and important updates along the way. Uh bidding a bidding time takes about a month. Um CM will handle that but we'll be available for Q&A during that. And then construction 10 to 20 months. Um we'll kind of dive into that a little bit more understanding you know when you take systems

059offline what work can best be done in the summer. um what what work can be done while kids are in school and understanding if there are any phasing in that if we have to move kids around a little bit. Um, so we'll work through that and then kind of a little bit more into what happens during that the two months as we get closer to five weeks. Um, and month of it's really we start to build that social media. Um, we start to obviously have those town hall meetings. Um, send home more information, have the extra article in the vindicator. Um, if we have a committee that might be able to pull together a few dollars, um, do some extra mailers, um, some that are kind of a little bit more targeted. Uh, one thing

060you'll hear me say over and over and over again, um, is that it's it's we need people to be supportive of this, but more importantly, we need them to vote for it. Um, it is the only thing on the ballot and so um, that's the only reason people are going to the polls. So, it's really important that we stress the importance of that and make calls the day of the election and make sure that we're getting people out here to vote. Um, I think Brad said that I think we we talked about generally there about 1,600 voters that show up at the polls. You need >> in November. So, it probably will be less for this. I mean, even I know a thousand. So, you need it's 50% plus one. So, you need 501 voters

061at that point. Um, there's times when you can count your way to that. You understand what who all is on that voter registration list and get a committee together and start breaking things up and making phone calls and someone's you're responsible for 20 votes. And so, morning of the election, I need to make sure that I've the 20 people I've identified. I'm going to call them and make sure that they're out voting today. And then Matt passed around some information. Um, we will help through all of this. Um, whether that is some of these materials. Um, and that's some of the bigger boards that may be at all the schools, maybe at some of the sporting events. Um, right. I talked about events in town, whether it's the coffee club, whether it's the BFW. Um,

062what other area people gather in town? um if they're some larger churches, having somebody from that congregation um go and speak to them about this and why it's important. People really trust their peers. So, it's important that you guys are very involved, but also other people that are supportive, if if I'm sitting next to somebody in church every day or every week, um I'm going to be more trusting of what they are here to tell me. >> And so, making sure we identify some of those people to be a part of it. Um, and if we do have a committee that is kind of a more targeted uh vote yes committee, we can also help them with materials, whether that's buttons or flyers or postcards or or whatever that is. So, we're here to be

063a resource for you through all that. We we do this a lot and so we have a lot of lessons learned and positive things to share. So, we'll do that. um stand at risk process just to kind of give you some understanding of what that looks like. Um it's a safe statute. It's a three-phase process. Um first you have to publish in the paper that you're intent to do this has to be out there for 15 days I think and then um issue an RFQ and if they reply with their qualifications um the committee, the district, the board that that can be the superintendent and three board members. It could be the entire board. That's up to you guys the way you want to do that. Um will shortlist um those companies and then they

064will come back and they'll look they'll do tours of facilities. They'll provide their fees through a state-based form. So that we're doing apples to apples for a long time. Um it was really hard when you were getting fees back from ZMS because there wasn't anything that told them exactly how to do it. And so there were ways to kind of make the numbers a little bit different. And so the state came in and said, "Okay, we're going to fix this." Um, so they have a form that they fill out. Um, the contractors will uh give that form back to the state. The state will score it. Um, in the meantime, excuse me, you guys will do interviews of those three to five firms and then score those. And there's a matrix that tells you, okay,

065what was the score on the the phase one? What was the score in phase two? What's the score in phase three? And how does that matrix all play out? And that tells you who your CM is. So, it's a it's a well vetted process and it didn't used to be. And so, that's good that we have that in place. And I think we we talked that you know if that if this instruction manager is the route that you want to go um that it makes sense that once the bond issue passes that that that process could start makes sense to start that can be um generally 45 to 60 days just because of the from the kind of start of it in terms of those newspaper notifications um through the time for responses and reviews.

066generally some month and a half to two months or so. >> And again, we've been through all of this and so we're happy to help provide you or help with RFQS and stuff like that so that it's not on you guys to figure all that out. >> The questions you have for us, >> what is the alternative to not using a CM? >> Um, you can the work um you can't do design building Kansas. Um, there is CM agency as well. It's kind of a different process. Um I for district your size CMR makes more sense. >> We can pick off what we want to do ourselves first off the top. >> Yep. >> And then assign them to renovating a kitchen. >> Yep. If if there are some things that can be independent of

067everything else and you can just go through a a roofing contractor, whatever that is, you can absolutely do that. And I know that you guys have some resources that has helped the districts in the past um that are good partners. Yeah, absolutely. >> Um sorry, did I interrupt? What are best practices for board members during the next three months? What how can we be the most helpful? >> Um that's a great question. And what when I say early on that the role of the district is to educate people, not to tell them to vote yes, right? Sometimes board members take that as I can't be advocating for the fund is but that's not true. >> Um you are not being paid by the district. Um >> we are to >> but they're also going to

068d it next year so you'll be fine. Um >> so you guys can talk about the bond issue. You're a taxpayer. Um so it's really just educating people um and making sure like that FAQ will be very important. Um because we'll start to get some misinformation out there. it doesn't matter what district you are that's >> um and so helping to combat that with that FAQ. Um and just being a resource to people but you can advocate for the bond issue. You can have a vote yes sign in your yard. You can wear a button. Um >> you have to be respectful and we have to >> um just like if you have a vote yes group that wants to come and sit at the basketball game. If a vote no group comes and says

069I want to do that too, you have to say okay. Yeah, >> that's fine. Um, so same thing if if you've got a somebody that's against the bond issue as a board member, you have to, you know, listen and understand and try and give positive feedback and if it's not going to >> go well, you thank them for their opinion and walk away. as as board members what you know what questions you have think about those um and either send those to Brad send those to us and you know we we're a resource to you in terms of providing information about whether they're part of that will will fall into that that FAQ form but also just do you have questions so that as you're talking to patrons and people in the community you can

070you you have all the answers that you need to be able to to say really answer any of their questions. >> And at a town hall meeting, no one necessarily wants to hear from us because we're not we're not paying taxes. Um, but we will be standing right there and there to answer any technical questions and be a part of that, but probably not leave that. So, that's either an identified committee, that's board members, um, but you'll never be on the hook for a question you don't know how to answer. Um, everything here tonight will be on our website. >> Are you comfortable with everything here tonight? >> Yeah. Yell out of it. >> Yeah. I mean, we have >> the more we put out the better. >> Yeah. There there's stuff. For example, do

071you like the banner look or do you like the the Jefferson red? Ultimately, one of those images will live in, >> you know, was there anything that you saw that you didn't like from an image standpoint that >> and also if you wouldn't with what's on there, we can, you know, they're just concepts. >> As long as everybody knows it's a concept, >> right? if we can show some different options um of kind of the same area if that's what you want to do so that people understand it's not necessarily accept just don't also if there's something you're like you know what I really don't like that or what you're probably talking about our fog what are you doing don't like that canopy we don't want that >> yeah and and it's it's so interesting

072like people will like yeah I don't really like that color of red so I'm gonna vote no right okay well that's too bad yeah I'm really sorry yeah Yeah. So, we can I don't know what your schedule is with your team working on this. So, I'm talking, but we can also give um provide this to to Brad, let him share with you guys and we spend a couple of days looking at it and if you have specific feedback, the sooner we can get going and start to develop this more, the better because we'll have better developed concepts. These are still a little bit high level. Our team is still refining them. Um but that's all an option. That's what I was going to ask is what type of time frame do we have to make

073these decisions? Because like Kelly said, she goes over the next three months, but my math says less than two months. >> You're going to have ballots out in 40 days, 45 days probably. >> Yeah. >> And so >> well, and and that's where we keep using that word concept because they they will be refined. Um >> we're going to do refinement regardless of >> what happens from here. It's just I think again to Elizabeth's point is okay do we do we like the canopy look showing kind of the full coverage or kind of the rough shape of it or is red okay you want it to be all black >> well and like there we have three different concepts >> right >> you know so it's not hammered and stone >> I don't care honestly

074I don't care what you put on there as long as maybe there's like a disclaimer under that says this is just an option or >> something just so people aren't like oh they've already chosen Exactly what that's right, >> right? >> Part of the presentation today too was also to show it give you guys the first look at it before it actually does get put in your campaign materials so that somebody asked a question like why >> I like all of the options. >> Then you can say well you know we we talked about this or just a concept just to kind of get the the ball rolling. >> Yep. There's nothing that I dislike personally. >> We also don't want to show something that divorce not support. We want to make sure that whatever

075we provide for you is what you guys also want to see >> push forward. >> Will there potentially be more renderings like 3D renderings? My only concern here is you guys are the pros and have done this I'm sure several times. Is this the best approach and because I I love the renderings. I I think it gives our schools a facelift. However, I think from our last bond experience, the messaging is poor in that when people look at that, they say we're just giving our schools a facelift when the a lot of the discussion surrounded the infrastructure, right? You can't draw a HBAC system on a right. Can can you do like 3D renderings of the potential classrooms that could be added or something like that? >> Yeah, we have we have we did do

076some some drawings or some 3D renderings of the classrooms. um they're not that exciting. >> They're just a continuation of >> um so one thing that and maybe we do with um >> would like like we have we have the so this is perceived as as a poster that would go up and we'd have multiple copies that you can have at each building you can take to events and whatnot. There's a lot of words in here. Um maybe it's highlighting um you know some of those those other big components like infrastructure repair and um other kind of highlights of those so that it's not just oh we're spending $17 million on canopies because that's not that's in the scheme of things the canopies are >> that's the only thing I was pointing out my fear

077is oh 17.5 million and yeah look at these you know now we have nice curb appeal when what we really need is the bones of it. Yeah. [clears throat] >> And hopefully they're taking the time to read all the words. Like I said, not everyone does and so they just look at the pictures and I'm guilty of that. So, um, >> but hopefully we can get enough information out there that that will help with that. Um, because we face that with a lot of schools. I mean, infrastructure is what costs a lot of money and can't see it. >> That's all we're doing is >> infrastructure. Well, you do and we do have a good list of it. >> Yeah. On do have a good extensive list on there. >> Yeah. I'm just worried, you

078know, maybe we need to highlight in kind of in large categories of, you know, infrastructure as a big portion. >> Put a big air conditioning unit. >> What we have on our website right now visuals like this. >> Yeah. >> What we didn't have was Okay. Well, what would the front look like? So, we can keep adding, >> right? >> Yeah. And that I guess that was my initial question is these initial renderings I think are beautiful and eye-catching and we'll get people you know talking about it but I think the more people talk about it they'll say well what's going on on the inside you know all these town halls that we've had >> and I think these are probably more important >> than the curb appeal. >> Yeah. >> But we still have

079curb appeal so they can see. But these get into >> the nitty-gritty. And these are on the website right now. We just haven't posted anything new until you saw anything first. >> And it might be too that we have, you know, when we make these into posters and have them in each of the buildings, we have two posters. one that's an overall on what's happening districtwide, but then building specific posters that are more floor plan based that show all the show the work that's happening in each building. And I think another thing like I mentioned this that would be helpful um is if each of you kind of think about what you've heard in the community so far, what you've heard in the community last time um what you anticipate um and send like there's

080no reason not to start that FAQ with things that we think might come up >> something we yeah send >> no if there are things that you think are out there that people are curious about or we really want to educate them more. Let's let's please if everybody sends two or three things to to Rad and Aaron for the FAQ. I think that that's >> well what Bose said would be my number one. I think there people are going to be like that that's pretty and everything but what about >> the HVAC? >> Yeah. Say are we fixing the H >> or the drainage issue >> certainly are fixing where the wall is sinking in the middle and put a very simple term. >> Nothing's coming out of our walls anymore. >> Yeah. Because we're

081going to have we're going to we have to be somewhat technical. We're not going to use the word thinking, but um if if that's how people best understand information, that's how we've been on the website. >> I mean, we could very easily when you break it down by school, you have it. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's in there. You just have to read it >> in here. You got make it bigger. >> I think per that's per building because then it can be something that's more displayed like this that will have a a picture associated. And that's what part of the challenge of this bond issue is >> it touch of so many facilities. >> Yeah. >> It's not like you get to drive by and see the construction going up every day on your way

082to work. >> This is a lot of that you're not going to see when you drive by. Um so yeah, we can do some building ones. There's also an FAQ on the website right now. Yeah, >> if you want to pull it up and start going through it because some of the things need to come up because that was during a time we were answering questions about the process that got up to the board's decision. >> Yes. >> Now, highlight some of those and then add some more because we're you're just in a new phase now. We redirect that to the landing page of the bomb. So when I scan this QR code, it just >> goes to our page. That's the hard thing. >> Is that the QR code from our >> uh whatever's

083on this? >> Yeah, it just goes both of them. >> It's very simple, but it goes to >> And then you got a click bond issue that >> Yeah, that's easy. >> Good catch. Yeah, >> these aren't the final versions. >> No, no, no. I meant to say these are just very high level things that we put together and these will be refined. They will be edited. They will be purged more. >> No, >> I'm concerned about handling that at all. >> The other piece of that can't see it on here, but is some of the these posters um you know, if we want to um you know, if you want to start to nail down those, we need to start putting community town hall meetings on the calendar. Um if we have that that

084information that can start to live on this >> poster then you guys do later. >> Yeah, we have it on our >> talk those down so we can start them and get them indicator and if more questions come up as that goes on if I can hold it up whatever you need we're here for. >> Perfect. Thank you. Thank you very much everyone. >> It'll be good if we don't stick around. >> So, we did this earlier in the year, but we are back to the KSB KV policy updates. >> So, a couple things. Um, I didn't print them because there's a lot of pages to it, but in the minutes in diligence, there's also a brief and I'll just quickly walk through those. But just a reminder, every six months KSV will send out,

085hey, here's some updates we made, some language, either based off of legislation, based off of just things going on. Um, the first one is about executive session. All they did was put some language in there to make it clear that this was a situation where someone had um secretly reported an executive session um a patron and just to make clear that the board does have the right to pursue legal actions if someone were so that's all they did was update to make it clear you always have that but they just made that more clear um membership uh that was just a revision that wanted to make sure that you could be a member of the National School Board Association without have to be a member of the Kansas School Board Association. They just wanted to

086make that language clear. uh graduation. Um this was really more around adjusting policies on graduation based off of of uh uh credits as opposed to the state graduation requirements are 21. Just about every school board has more than 21 credits to graduate. So, they just cleaned up the language to make it clear that the board sets and it's more based off how many credits you earn uh as opposed to just what the state requires. Um there's one on use of artificial intelligence. I would recommend tableabling that right now because I don't think we actually have a a couple principles and teachers that are part of a an AI group trying to really look at well what is AI's role in in space and education. I don't think we're ready to adopt any kind of a

087policy yet on that but there is some language to see what AASB is putting out. I just don't think we're ready for that yet. Um there's one on um uh controversial issues. Um, and that that really has to deal with with staff employees and just kind of the role that while you do have um opinions as an employee, um, you can't use your role as a teacher or an or whatever to try and circumvent your opinions off in an educational setting. just again that policy we've always had. It's just providing some uh uh some clarity around that. Um human sexuality, there's several of them here that I'm just going to say and there's another one. There's another one. they're starting to remove the words uh references to AIDS um because that was kind of a

088big thing in the 80s um AIDS educ aids and it's just u removing that language um around when we have human sexuality and eggs they're just removing that that's just kind of old terminology um religion and curricular or school sponsored activities. Again, one that we already have, but it just again we try not to to push um religion one way or the other. And there's several here that now have where parents and they already do have the um option to opt out of certain curriculum that they believe is contrary to their religious beliefs. It's just adding u more clarifying language. Um there was also one um [clears throat] one on religion but the other one on religious objections to activities. Uh they use the example of like LGBTQ um inclusive books. Uh parents have the

089right to opt out of those as well. Um, that was a long narrative on that one. The enrollment of non-resident students. Um, this actually makes it clear that we could go into another district and pick up an out of district student. We don't just because of the cost, but we could. This just makes it clear that you have to notify the the sending district that you're sending a vehicle into their district to pick up the kid. It just makes that language more clear. Um, uh, there's one on interrogation and investigation. uh administrators have the right to question students when it comes to um disciplinary any any threats any of that. That's part of having your kid enrolled in the school district. They have the right to investigate whenever they think. But if it's a law

090enforcement officer coming in to investigate, then the principal has the ability to say, "I then I need a warrant. I need, you know, so just outside they have to come, they have to work through as a building administrator. They can't just show up and and have free rain. Um the only exception to that is DCF, divisional children and families. Those were just some updates. um uh bullying plan. Um we have that um there were just some um updates to the bullying plan. Adult students, that one is again, most of these are just minor changes in some language to make it more clear. But if a student's over 18, so 19 or older, the building principal has the right to determine placement. Let's say someone 21 years old wanted to come back to school. Well, they

091can come back and get the credits to graduate, but that doesn't mean they have to be they may have to do it offsite. They may have to. So, it's up to the building administrator whether or not a 19year-old or older is allowed to be in the building with PL with students. Um, visitors to the school. This is the one that we did not adopt last year. Some clarity on this and Representative Ellis even checked into it. we have the right to ask for identification and that they have a conceal and carry permit. Now, the one thing that we still argue with is, well, I may know it now, but then they walk into a gym with 2,000 people and everybody in there, you know, but we do have the right um to check that they

092legally can carry that weapon. >> So, that was the one that hung us up the last time. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Or did they refine it enough that it >> Yes. Okay. So they added language in there that says we have the right to ask for identification. So they did provide some clarifying language and >> but a person in plain clothes if they are an offduty police officer can still come in with a gun to our facility legally. >> Yes. >> But that has not changed. >> That has not changed. >> The only difference is we can now ask for credentials. Administrators can ask for credentials. Not even. We can't. I mean, we can, but >> Well, or the designated look. >> Yeah. >> Or the designated, >> you know, we could designate, >>

093you know, certain people. >> So, 200 people in that gym see somebody in regular clothes come in with a gun on their hip. They don't know if they're off duty. So, >> that's the whole thing that bothers us. >> Our request would then be conceal it. >> Yeah. Don't have it sticking up out of your pants or don't have it on, you know, conceal it >> or wear a badge or >> or >> Yes. >> wear your badge where we can >> Exactly. >> Is this something like the individuals we've have um taking money on and friends and stuff, we can just train them up do as well? >> Yeah. We would just say, "Hey, if you see someone come in, it it's I mean, it could have happened already." Yeah, >> but if someone

094walks in off duty and they have Yeah, I would imagine we have offduty people concealing and carrying already. >> My concern was well, if it's not concealed, we can one ask now to make sure that they have a license to be carrying it. And then we would also ask could you conceal it please? >> Yeah. I think we just told the people just to point them to the administrator >> or maybe those >> those are the updates. I don't see anything really. So >> can this doesn't need to be done till February. Can we have a motion or something rewrote to exclude the AI part of it? Is that where we I mean we >> I just wanted you at least to still have it to see it. It's just in February we will not

095include the AI one for approval, >> but I still wanted you to have a copy to be able to see what ASVs. >> Can I ask for clarification real quick on one thing on the bullying? Um all >> all you what? >> We're against >> Well, yeah. Our official position is we are against bullying. That is correct. The only thing that was changed was that that we removed gender identity and expression and sexual orientation. That was the recommendation from KASB. I just want to clarify that does not mean that those people are no longer protected from bullying in our building. >> Correct. >> I just wanted to >> even though those words are being removed, those people are still very much covered. >> If you are a student here, you are protected. >> Okay. That

096to be said out loud. Yes. >> Very good. We any more questions? >> Those will be back in February minus the AI one. >> The next one, the next item is that is up is consider district fundraising policy. EF >> mental health committee. >> Yep. Let's talk about that. [laughter] >> We should remember that. >> Yeah. So, uh I'm sorry. I what I do is I print off Brad's Friday notes and make notes on them. >> And so, uh the district or I discuss the uh board of the with the mental health committee. So, Kelly and I met with uh Mrs. Jensen before the break. I encourage everybody to take a little bit of time and sit down sit down with everybody. Um, it was an eye openener for what all those guys are dealing

097with and you know where some of you know we and I'll let Brad take over on some of this but we have a Keystone uh co- social worker. >> We have Casey as the um counselor. We have a social worker from the co-op or >> the guidance center. >> Guidance center. >> We had two. We lost one. Um so these girls over here are working hard. Uh and and what we what Kelly and I learned and I'm I don't want to give the numbers out and because >> Yeah. >> but it's worth sitting down Casey to say, you know. Um, I will say this, what you know what kind of suicide thoughts are going through school and stuff like it's worth sitting down with her and it's worth going into this and getting a couple

098board members in and a committee, you know. So, I'll let take her. >> Well, instead of having So, we have a mental health team that meets consistently. Um and yeah, we we have some supports, but our Keystone person works with students with IEPs. Our mental health players on works with families on mental, you know, we have a general ed population that um [clears throat] has needs. And so instead of having mental health committee members come and sit at the board meeting and visiting with the board and and and you getting 30 minutes of a conversation, we thought might be better if we had a couple board members to be designated to meet a couple times, two, three times with our mental health team and really be able to have more of a a formal slash

099informal really get an understanding of where we are as a district and the types of supports our students are needing in the mental area of mental health and in predominantly just our general ed student population. um you know it's sadly not if but when and we want to be proactive instead of reactive. So, we'd like to have a couple board members that would like to serve on that and then we'll start getting over the next couple months some some dates scheduled where we can uh sit down with our mental health team and and let >> me um ask a quick question regarding the um our contract with family service guidance center. Um, I know I can't remember if it was the last board meeting or the one before, but they had mentioned they're re uh

100evaluating to see the need for both positions. I guess this is another situation we've had before that I feel like what has changed significantly in the time when they initially proposed the two. >> Yeah. So when we first started out, it was the anticipation of the numbers that we believed we would have in both the high school and middle school. Um we would still have two. The one at the middle school um had some significant health issues and is not working anywhere. So we lost her because of health issues. >> So we have since met with the guidance center to get that person replaced. What they would like they would have liked for our numbers to have been higher. So they're kind of evaluating. Okay. Well, in a typical situation, you would we're kind of

101at well it's hard to get to that number with one person now when we have people on a list. So, they're working on a way to get us someone this spring to help start building those numbers back up. Um, we're possibly looking at partnering with one of our neighboring districts that has a halftime person and get that person for the other half. So, there's they're willing to help us get the numbers back up. It's finding the right person that we can get at the middle school to help do that. >> Well, and that that being said, Brena has Payton as counselor. >> Does she have a Keystone counselor? >> Part time, isn't it? You split it with the high school. >> You split it with the high school. >> Yeah. >> Family services split between

102middle school. >> Yeah. the one or the >> all three. I only have two or three. Have more, but yeah, all three. >> And our social worker is just high school, Mrs. Dimpy Wolf, or she had all three. >> All three. >> Okay. um and ugly or if you throw in preschool for her, >> you know, the example and I can't remember it was Brena I met with or or it was Casey, but the example was, you know, they have a student that's that's has an issue and they spend a day with that student, everybody else is not getting served, you know, and people. So, we got to >> Well, there's a kid in crisis almost every day at some point and is their first priority obviously. >> Yeah. >> And we we just thought

103it would be more meaningful in the long run if we had a couple board members that could then meet with the mental health team and really have a conversation about where we are as a district in serving mental health needs of our kids. Whether it's kid with an IEP, whether it's a a kid family counsel. >> I didn't realize till we sat with Casey that our social worker can't work with or general ed students. >> Yeah. >> I didn't know that. >> The IEP I mean well that's >> they've already he does try to >> and I will say Keystone did provide is he an intern officially to Mrs. Dimpy Wolf? um which I think it was an attempt to help alleviate some of her workload. I don't know that it has helped a whole

104lot. I don't he's not able to work with students like she can because it was not fully licensed. So, um I think that was an attempt on their part to help, but I think uh >> we asking for more if possible. I would love to serve on this committee if I'd be interested as well. We could have up three. That could be that three. >> You want to jump in? >> Well, yeah. I really don't mind. It's just um what what does that look like? >> If we got more than happy to usually, can you be here in five minutes? >> Just keep your phone on. [laughter] Sir, do we need to anything other than these three or we're good to go? Okay, we're good. >> Did you want I just >> No, I I

105Okay. >> Yeah, I I It was holy an eye open. >> I think Matt and I both spent about three days just >> you walk out and you're just like this is I mean >> it was scary think to think of what goes on. >> It it was it affected us for sure. We both left and we're like I don't know where to begin. I don't even know where to begin. Let me >> uh 5.4. Now, uh the fundraising activities uh consider consideration of fundraising activities policy and we have it here and this is a action item. >> Yes. Didn't know if anybody had any questions off in the last meetings. >> Well, it's funny we ask. >> Here we go. >> I I I like the polity policy in and of itself. I just

106don't if if not in this policy, what policy do we have to protect kids? Because right now we're not compliant. And I know that people are going to argue with me about it, but there's no denying we are not ka compliant. We probably have 50 to 60 kids that technically aren't eligible and this does not protect their eligibility and that's that's my concern. Are we going to have another policy that does that above and beyond this? >> Can you tell me what you're talking about? Like I know you can't >> like to Okay, >> we have and and I know everybody thinks I'm talking football, but there's more than just football. >> Okay. But I mean, we right now we're using these outside groups as like we've discovered a loophole in how to reward kids.

107And it's not a loophole. We're just asking someone else to break the rules for us. >> Okay. >> And and it's I mean it's out on social media, >> right? >> I I don't I don't work in town. I don't I I live closer to Ozaki. I don't have a kid here. And I can see this and I'm just like, you've got to be kidding me. >> Like what are you referring to? Like the booster form? No, I was like >> booster clubs, but not yours specifically. >> Okay. I was like >> because yours yours is always run. >> Yeah. >> And and it and it goes to >> We're doing something. Please tell us. >> I don't want to. >> Yeah. I think we need to do a better job of educating those groups

108of what these rules are because I'm not 100% sure it's intentional. >> I I don't know. And I'm not that that's the thing and I hate to be the one to say that because I don't want to discourage giving >> but we have to protect their I mean we have title n we have pay. We have to and we have to protect their eligibility because if we were ever investigated or whatever the word is, you know, I don't it's never going to be the kid's fault. It's going to be because we didn't take action and I don't want to have to answer to these parents if their kid is deemed ineligible. >> Yeah. So, what specifically in here are you saying we >> Well, like in the first paragraph is the one where we it

109does not apply to outside fundraising groups such as booster club, although we will work closely with them. That's that's great. But >> okay, >> but how do we keep them from making our kids ineligible for giving them things? >> Yeah. >> Do we have an eligibility policy? It doesn't >> be added to the >> I think it's more like for grades and >> well I behavior >> enforcement of this with because you're right if if the whatever club but let's say an esports >> Yeah. club, outside group, then we're going to have to sit down with them with the guidelines to say, >> "Yeah, if those parents, the e-club parents, all got together and said, "We're buying them all whatever, you know, Nintendo or PS5, we would have to say, whoa, whoa, you can't do

110that." >> And that's our responsibility to do that, right? Yeah. >> Yeah. I think that's part of us having to be more engaged with with um whether it's the diamond club, the touchdown club, the like softball has >> and that's my thing is how do we do that without discouraging it but but also making them aware that you know there's things you cannot >> and and if it comes back >> I don't I don't want parents screaming at us that how did you let them do this Now my kid's ineligible for eight year. >> Is that something we just need to enforce then with the coaches and then the coaches are responsible? I would say >> so once this is >> once the board adopts this >> then the building administrators and our athletic director

111will then sit down with coaches and sponsors and say hey you know we're going to walk through this you know you've got to have a plan you've got to have a specific purpose you got to have you know got to have approval you got to walk through this and including if you have parent groups that provide supports because it's even, you know, you don't even have to be an official group, but a parent that just buys oath bags out of the goodness. >> Yeah. >> Which is one there's one group that did that. You can't they got to check them in at the end of the season. Yeah. >> I mean, it's, you know, >> anything over $50, but that's something that the that um >> So, if it's less than $50 per kid, that's

112fine. >> But it it's cumulative between seventh and 12th grade. A total of $50. >> What do you mean between seven? Oh, like >> like like if you buy them a $50 jersey, >> you're done for four years >> and you're done for six years. >> Six years. >> Yeah. at seventh grade. >> That's just stupid. >> Oh, that's a long season. >> Is it good thing my kids don't have gross [laughter] to wear all the way? >> But that's just something that we're going to have to do with educating our producers. >> Yeah. >> And our sponsors and our >> Yep. This information needs to get out. Um and that's on us. >> And that's all I just I just wanted that out there. But we've talked about it and >> we're aware of

113it. >> Since we have been so thorough with this, do we want to >> put another paragraph in there stating some of the stating? >> Well, I think if we can just make it clear to the coaches that if if an outside group does something and it needs to go through administration, whether it's superintendent, principal, AD, you know, if they're aware of that, then then we're we're good. And I I don't know. I I'm okay with it now. But if if you think >> it I as well in time that you know well it wasn't >> and that's where I don't know where that would fall if it would >> it doesn't really fall under our fundraising. It's >> on what we accept. Yeah. >> Right. >> So that's all I had >> got to

114be on the enforcement side. >> Yeah. This this covers us and our fundraising very well. I like it. I love the ball. That's it. >> Yeah. >> John Lloyd Stamp. >> I will serve this one. >> Anybody else have any questions on it? >> Well, this is an action item. So, >> I move that the board approve the district fundraising policy DFH-2. >> Second. Second. All >> favor. Uh and the Keystone interlocal agreement we discussed this last >> you have a copy. Um there's really two things and this time it's printed in color. >> It's at the top it says amend interlocal agreement. >> Yeah. No. >> So, in the middle of the second page, they've added um basically the FTE of when they're looking at what percent membership of the interlocal any district is,

115it would include virtual student. >> Yeah. Okay. Um, most just about every other one is like us now to where we only enroll our own kids and we have an agreement through Green Bush >> and if they need IEP services, they get IEP services, but the those kids are counted in our headcount RFT. >> Right. The second section is on page four and this really just lays out it's new language because since Keystone is now building their own building, we will all be paying our portion share of building that building that if it was ever dissolved And that building sold, the proceeds goes back to the original district. Now, they still have Jefferson County West. They'll change that to Jefferson West. That's a typo. >> Yeah. >> And here's the percent of the proceeds that

116we would get because that's the percent of the proceeds we paid when it was built. This is going to KASB for legal review. All they want is does our board are we good with this? It'll still have to go back to the Keystone board members. So John will then see it, bring back to us an update, but they just want to make sure that all eight members are good with this language. >> Yes. >> Sign it. >> So you all need to now sign. >> Oh yes. This will be coming around because we are members of KV or KD legal services >> and Keystone is using them. We they want KSB wants to make sure that there's not a conflict of interest. You're okay with KSB because we're both they're representing both of us. So,

117this is basically saying, "Yeah, we get it. where members go where they you got one legal roof. >> We need to make note of the Jefferson County West. >> They they know it. If it's this is setting that KSB and KS is already read there >> and then >> uh >> next item is uh you review board goals and strategies. >> Well, you should have a document like this. I just thought I would share with you [clears throat] um this time last year, you just started working your board goals and strategies. Just some updates. Uh the first one on student success and preparation and preparation. We opened the preschool. That was one of your strategies. We got that started August 25. >> Um been working a lot this year. the building principles just talked about

118um PD today on uh curriculum and alignment that's part of also our accreditation kiza goal so making good progress on that um increase of on student mental health needs I mean obvious you know we're kind of at a low with the school-based clinicians but they're having a lot of success with that and we're also uh designating some board members to meet with our mental health team. uh student clubs and organizations. Um just, you know, successful spring last year, successful fall, numbers are up, kids being engaged um in all clubs and organizations, and we have a national blue ribbon school recognition that the elementary is celebrating on parent community engagement. uh just our communication plan. Uh Aaron has out there now quick access to signups for social media and board meetings. People can get >> I

119think that's been real successful too. A lot of people take advantage of that. So >> they have seen the numbers go up um posting board meetings on YouTube. Uh we are meeting here in January for our first student leadership team and we have some uh high schoolers and middle schoolers that are going to be serving on that. And the first task we're going to give that group is how do we broadcast and message all student events? You know, people in the community want to see the kids. So, we're going to turn that over to the pits and say, how do we broadcast, you know, from the the volleyball tournament to the the band concert? There's legalities of things, but we're going to let the students work on that, working with some of our staff members.

120Um, and sometimes students come up with better ideas than adults. So >> when is when is that something else we want to bring in and see what's going on? >> Yes. >> Yeah. When it comes >> that is it will be here at the high school. >> Yep. January 20th >> January 20th >> 37 >> in room specific. >> That was really specific. >> It's over the lunch hour. >> Okay. >> Over lunch hour. And it's in that room when you go around the circle on the back just straight across. >> Okay. >> No, >> over here. [laughter] >> Well, which one's that one? I'd have >> That's esports. >> Okay, that's where I'd have taken the pizza to the wrong room. [laughter] >> I'm sure they >> can heard. Yeah, if you want to

121stop by and and uh meet the kids and but that was one of the you know when we were looking our strategies from board goals and we had our retreat this summer the administrators came up with well let's put a student leadership team together and let them tackle some of these. >> Is that something uh Rhonda that you can email as a reminder? >> Sure. >> Because I'm terrible at reminding remembering Wes, could you remind her to remind us? >> We've also made some enhancements to the website. Um, there's even a board gold tracker on there, but we're going to start updating now that we have some accomplishments. We're going to start putting some accomplishments on there, uh, some specific under each one. staff recruitment, retention, um for robust advertising. We, you know, we had

122the two new community videos that we were able to put out towards the end of last year that one of them was a teacher video, one was a community one that's on a website, social media, um advertising of positions. Um, we did come up with a new application process that or or a platform that helps our um >> 50% fiction. >> Yeah. 50% off. I'm missing my second page. online. >> Yeah. >> Oh, you only got the Yeah, >> I'll just read you the other one. >> So, we did implement new application software for people to advertise. I'll send you I thought I printed front and back. Um implemented the half fees at preschool for district staff. Um and then the high school um team is working on uh application and the whole process of

123starting you know we have like a a VOAG pathway we have a business pathway and CTE pathway starting a teaching pathway. >> Yes. um in the district to help you know, hey, if we have 10 students go through that pathway and we get two of them back in the future, we helped other districts, but then also ourselves. So, but working on a starting a teacher pathway. Then facilities, you know, we created uh the facilities planning committee last spring. They presented that list to the board in June. Um, we did get the um I'm going to say an anonymous grant, but it's it's a group that is funding the bullet or the security film on all the entrances, front, back, side. They got the high school done. They did the preschool um Martin Luther King weekend.

124They're going to do the elementary and middle school. Um they kind of messed up and did the high school first and they only had enough funds to do preschool, elementary, and middle schools. They were going to do the high school the second year where they started here. So they gave us our next year's money this year. In total, it will cost the district around $3,000 when it would have cost us over 20,000. But um anyway, those will be finished here, >> but they fronted the money. So, we were going to be two years doing good project >> and now we're going to have it all done by the end of this month. >> All buildings. Um then we're going to talk here in a little bit about potential conversation with the city about partnership grant

125for the back facility. Um we had you know multiple donations you know we had the storage shed that was donated built at the track football complex. Um, we paid for it. We got a check today uh dropped off at the district office that covered the cost >> of that. So, that was all donations. I would like to find out who it was because it was multiple because I would like to put a plaque on the side of it that recognized all the businesses that, >> you know, from from concrete to I mean, it was just a lot. Um, so and then there's just [clears throat] um we've talked about the last year all of the um support businesses have done um from getting the preschool ready to go. There's a lot of inind RNS maintenance

126from um stairs to the back safe stairs to the kitchen to the preschool to Barry White tearing the wall out and at the middle school and never sent it. So, we just had tons of inkind uh contributions from our cities coming from our >> in the city helping us. Uh a year ago today, the city was helping us move 14 inches of snow off of >> one nurse's side. >> Yeah. So, >> anyway, I'll send you the full front and back update on that. Actually, I think it is it's actually indiligent >> as the front and back of that. >> Yes, it is. It is >> very good. Uh no student issues facilities and equipment planning just meeting with city of merit on practice partnership grant. Uh I was texting the city has a different

127a change of mayors coming up this next meeting. Um, and I texted the mayor that is um the new mayor and asked when do you want to represent him to come January, February? Said January be busy. >> Mhm. >> But if we could get somebody February um to to do that. I don't know. I don't like getting the cart in front of the horse, but they're bowed from pretty close to >> Yeah. you know, so it would be nice to have the grant um the company that the the that they use, the city uses um to come talk and explain how it works. You know, I can tell you it's well, I don't even want to say because I'd rather him do it, you know. Um the library is utilizing it now one a year.

128So, type of deal, but it needs to be run through the city. So that's where I like like say I uh January is going to be busy and the meeting was already pushed back to the 20th of this month anyway. So anyhow I got >> do we want to discuss it at the February meeting >> when meeting? No, he the February meeting would be best for I'm >> the first or >> it will be the second second Tuesday of the month, >> but somebody other than myself >> um come and talk to him. >> Um and just you know ask to utilize the community book. Mhm. >> But um if somebody the second Tuesday of February, >> I agree that >> if somebody likes it, we'll be able to >> we'll have another meeting before

129then. >> Yeah, we'll have we'll have ours before then. So if we just have that on our meeting again. >> Okay, we'll decide here. >> What time? >> Seven. We'll just put that on the calendar. I guess after that uh discussing setting dates for community information meetings, pull up your calendar. >> I much prefer a spring election. I'm way freer in the winter. [laughter] So I guess first is we want to do one in January and February. >> Well, we have to. >> So when you sayformational meeting, is this like town hall or is town hall in addition to this? >> No, this would be like >> this is the town hall. Okay. So I'm we at least two maybe three. >> What about So I doing quick looking the 29th. January 29th is a

130Thursday. How many basketball games are >> that one's in Neah Central or any way to get around it? Yeah, because I was going to say there's JB all of those things. >> Well, I don't I don't know. >> Wednesday. >> Okay. >> Well, we need to >> Well, second third Wednesday. >> Are we anti like the Sunday afternoon? We talked about that at one time. I think a Sunday afternoon is not a horrible idea just to make sure everybody has a chance. >> Yeah, >> I know you don't like to do Sundays, but >> Well, no, I no that for this I would do Sunday afternoon. >> I think it's a good idea evening. >> They don't want to go >> check out do a Wednesday and a Sunday and that would >> but a

131Sunday evening I'm open to >> Okay. Okay, >> pick one. >> 18th >> anybody? January. >> January. >> Is that enough time? That's two weeks. So, we would need to get something out. >> H2K would need to write >> Well, and we would need to just throwing it out there. We need to start gathering our FAQs and all that stuff. I'm good with that. >> Do we have a committee together that's ready to or are we the committee? >> Well, well, provide. We can't be committed. >> Why don't Why don't you give everybody time >> do >> the 25th? >> Well, then we'll have to be respons. >> It's a Saturday night though, right? Yeah. But I'm saying don't have it early on Sunday. We're talking about >> I'm saying like yeah I said let's

132make it >> if you can't rally by 4 or 5 then you were too naughty and get it together [laughter] the whole time. >> So Sunday the 25th >> after four or yeah >> three is fine with me. >> Yeah. Three or four is what I would say. >> 3:30. >> Oh meet in the middle. I like farms. compromising >> look at you my politicians still compromise from time to time >> pick your February Sundays I'm open then too >> okay >> or I mean or other days I don't care >> maybe >> I would look somewhere between the 22nd and the 28th to have it as close >> closest to it yeah fresh in everyone's minds and then one between or do you want to >> I mean I don't care what day I'm

133all free I have no life so either Yeah, >> I'm that week of the month. I'm free anytime too. So >> what what was that? >> 22nd and 28th >> somewhere that >> week before the election to keep it crashing people's minds. >> Okay. So February 22nd. >> Do you want to do that Wednesday? Although that'll be my daughter's birthday. >> Is she going to be hanging out with you on your birthday? >> On a Wednesday. Actually, she probably will expect me to take her to dinner, but she'll be fine. She will be fine. We were early. So >> you don't have to either miss the rest of us. >> Actually the second 25th >> what time? >> Uh six six work. >> I like the earlier >> was that last day? >> Uh February

13425th. >> Do we need one in between? >> I think that's land on four or five. He he hit it in the middle. He said 3:30 and 3:30. >> That is not in the middle. >> Well, oh, between 3 and 4 is what they said. And then he said he need the quickest we've come up with two dates in a long time. We're all >> the Sunday really helped though. >> Does anybody think we need one in between those two? >> No. >> Am I doing need one more? >> I just think that that's less people to show up. >> Okay. So, >> we had a meeting last year. We could do >> would be the 25th and 25th. >> Yeah. >> So we could do um >> the Sunday. Do we want to do

135that? >> The high school, middle school, elementary and the Wednesdays. >> Same question. whichever schools like open guess. Do they have any we need to January >> Sunday? It's open for everybody. >> Like no one's using practices or anything. >> What about Wednesday the 25th? What's going on on Wednesday the 25th? >> Um there's a lot of practices, but there's no games. There's tutoring in here. We couldn't do it in here. Move that. >> Let's do the Let's do the Wednesday 25th in here. Then we wouldn't affect any practices and then the Sunday we could do at the middle school when there isn't any practices. >> Mhm. There's no volleyball league or anything going on there. >> Volleyball's over basketball. >> Oh, they used to have It's the second for an adult league. >> Yes,

136they got in trouble and so they got information. >> Oh, perfect. Well, then Sunday >> Sunday the 25th at the middle school. >> Yep. >> That was very easy. >> What time is it? Wednesday February >> six >> um I guess at this time we are into >> personnel how much time >> we have time to >> well >> we got one right after that >> but we I mean >> oh I don't know if we even does everybody have their >> Yeah we need to go >> [laughter] >> Yeah, >> I can talk about what I have to say. I can say without names or anything just generally speaking. >> Well, we if you we can go in. >> No, we don't know. Not at all. No, I'm absolutely fine. Okay. >> We ready?

137>> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Do we need a snack for this? >> No. And I alluded to this previously, but I mean my issue with this is that we've had we we gave football an assistant coach because fit into the coaching style. And now now we need one at the middle school and and I hate that it's the middle school because they're always overlooked. >> And and now I feel like we kind of gave it to football without looking ahead. And then I hear other things where we meet paras and we and we're telling the teachers that we, you know, there's nothing for raises. It it the feeling and I'm saying this is the feeling is that we can somehow scrape together money when it goes to sports, but we can't do it for education

138>> because when we added the money from Rocket, we added two positions. We lost the money and we did away with the one studentf facing position and kept the other one. >> And so I mean I I understand and I I don't want to seem like I'm attacking the either. I really like it. >> Right. Right. You're saying it as a whole and I totally >> So that that's that's my piece. That's all I wanted to say. >> I think it's so hard when it's because this does involve students. Yes. It's an it's a sport, >> but when you have 43 kids, >> we don't even have enough uniforms for them, it's really sad. And actually, like tonight was our first game. It was really cool to see kids that don't ever go out for

139anything. It did. And so it was really cool to see that. And that's exciting things and extracurricularum, but because unfortunately we don't hire Paris. East does, right? We can't. Yeah, very little because I know I've pushed that subject for a long time. So, >> I mean, I get it because if we had if I were the head students, they'd be able to work one month. I would not even >> Yeah. So, I mean, if it was a huge chunk of money that we could pay a pair of, then I would definitely volunteer to be the middle school basketball coach, but that a smaller amount of money wouldn't even cover them a few weeks to work for us. >> Um, can we get a motion on the contract? >> I move to to approve the contracts

140as presented. No. >> No. >> Approving. >> I know. Do I need a name? >> Yeah, I need the name. >> I move to approve Chad Jack as middle school assistant boys basketball coach. All >> in favor? One, two, three, four. Oh, >> five or five. Five to two. >> Um, quick question though. Are we for filling uh vacancy? I know we filled hypis's position for baseball and we'll have >> do we have the assistant position posted? Okay. >> They're getting ready to interview, I believe. >> Okay. >> How long do you need for negotiation? a while. >> It's a conflict. Feel free to not >> Mr. President, a new paner executive session per KSA 75-4319 for a period of 30 minutes at 8:30. Do we need a few minutes? >> Yeah. 8:35 your agreements

1418:35 p.m. to discuss employer employee negotiations under the FOMO exception including Brad Newan Swander um with open meeting to resume resume the board meeting at 9:05 p.m. Second excited about this freaking basketball game. >> I'll catch up later tomorrow. Okay. No cover. Have a good night. >> You too. Bye. [laughter] >> Well, tape's there now. So, >> Mr. President, wait. What >> are we recording? >> Yes. >> Okay, good. >> I move to enter executive session per KSA75-4319 for a period of 10 minutes at 9:05 p.m. to discuss employer employee negotiations under the coma exception including Dr. for new inper uh with open meeting to resume in the board room at 9:15 p.m. >> Second favor. Thanks. >> No, I wanted to >> do some more. >> No, >> it does help. >> I'm like

142Willy Wonka. Okay, guys. >> I know. I know. There's a lot of food. >> I don't There's some things that >> Yes, I don't. [laughter] >> Well, I mean, yeah, I try and steer clear. >> Yeah. >> I will tell you anything you want to know. >> If I have anything to put in, I will. >> All right, we are back in open session. >> By the way, Bo, I love your name tag. [laughter] >> That's pretty sad. You said you just don't mention [laughter] your own >> flat. >> We are at the superintendent reports. >> Well, there's only one other thing I was going to give you an update on. >> All right. I just have to look at what folder. >> Oh, and we talked about it earlier. The window film. I was

143just going to give you an update on there is we noticed bubbles in it. We talked to Lance Bradley because the same company did Seammens and Capikas and he said after a month or two those bubbles will work their way out. Um, >> but it it's it's kind of one of those all the glass entrances we have all this film does will slow someone down. >> Yeah. and it just buys pine. Um, if you shoot it, it just makes a little hole. It doesn't shatter, but it's just a protection. >> Um, >> It's doing its purpose to to fill a >> vaguar. >> And the company really is kind of one of those, we don't want credit, we don't want name. Um, they're a group. um working their way out of Topeka. Now they're working

144into um Jefferson County. They're going to do this for all Jefferson County schools. >> It's just kind of a one of those >> great timing. >> Would love to >> um would love to do a big shout out, but they're like, "No, >> just >> this is >> Yeah. >> And thanks to Jason Boyer >> for getting that correction >> um for us >> not only for our district but but for all the Jefferson County schools. >> Yeah, that is really awesome. >> I guess nothing else. Please turn. >> Thank >> 919. >> Not bad. >> Not a record.
