here. >> AZ Molina >> here. >> Christine Newark >> here. >> Cassandra St. Germaine >> here. >> Marlene Whitney >> here. >> Chris Red >> here. All right. We stand for the salute. [clears throat] I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Welcome to the to the new board members, new faces in the room. >> Welcome. >> Thank you. >> Move on to number four, open forum. Uh so with that, obviously too, just welcome and then um you guys get to jump into a good month. January is board appreciation month. So, as a kind of a tradition, we just simply provide cupcakes for for everybody. So, feel free at any time jump
up and grab a cupcake or at the end before you go grab some and enjoy a cupcake. So, again, thank you for um as Chris mentioned, thank you both for for you guys coming on and being [clears throat] a part of and for everybody. Thank you USD270 board for for doing the work that you do. Much appreciated. >> All right. Not seeing anybody else for open forum. We'll move on to number five, approval of the agenda. Do have one addition. Uh would be a 19A for supplemental. >> Sorry, I was just fine. >> Sorry, I'm going to back up. Did were you guys were you guys wanting to to join us then for the open? >> Yeah. Sorry. >> Comments. >> Yes, you're fine. >> Yes. Yes. We'll back up. Let us back up a
little bit. >> Sorry about that. >> No, you're fine. Uh Susan and I are with the we were with the Stockton Sentinel analysis sentinel times as most of you may know but I have a prepared statement and I'll go ahead and give you a copy of for the record after I'm done. So uh good evening. Thank you for allowing us a moment to introduce ourselves. My name is Bart Hamilton and I am joined by my sister Susan Hamilton Schneider. On December 26, 2025 we officially acquired the Planeville Times and merged it with the Stockton Sentinel to create the times. Although our staff is small, just the two of us full-time and one part-time team member, we are passionate about bringing Plainville and its schools the coverage they deserve. With community support, we hope to grow
our staff in the near future. We recognize how vital it is for Planeville and its school community to have a strong and consistent presence in local news. Reporting on the district's achievements, challenges, and milestones is a significant responsibility, one that we take seriously. Given Given our limited resources, we know that collaboration and ongoing communication will be key. We look forward to building strong relationships and working closely with administrators, board members, um, staff, secretaries, coaches, and everyone who contributes to the success of this district. We appreciate your patience as we work through the merger of the two papers. This year marks the 95th year the Hamilton family has owned and operated a newspaper in Stockton. Our greatgrandfather CW Hamilton began our family's legacy in 1931 with the acquisition of the Brooks County Record and eventually operating
several newspapers across Kansas and Colorado. That was followed by our grandfather Leon Hamilton and our father Bob Hamilton. In February 1989, our father established the Stockton Sentinel. And in January 2025, Susan and I stepped into the role of owners. We are honored to continue this legacy, and we look forward to working together to make our coverage even more comprehensive and effective in the months and years ahead. And prior to knowing we would be purchasing the plane bill times, I had arranged uh travel for this week and I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning and Monday nights are uh the night that we have to get everything ready for press. Uh so please accept our apologies for needing to return to work uh this evening to ensure a timely delivery of this week's edition. that we are
committed just committed to supporting your schools and the broader Planeville community. And uh thank you so much for your time this evening. >> Thank you. >> But like I said, you got there with the family. >> Thank you. Can I have something? Is there any way to get a picture of the >> new board members? >> Sure. >> I know you're [laughter] >> um both Christine and Jared. I don't know. Do you just want to step out on the hallway or do you how what do you want that to look like? >> It'll be all right. >> Or you're more than welcome, Christine, you're more than welcome to go into my office, too. Go back in there. Jared. Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Yep. [clears throat] >> Sorry about that. >> Nope. That's all right.
>> You said that was 95 years ago. >> 95 years. Yes. 1931. So we begin our 95th year. >> That's that's great. I've been able to keep it in your family. [laughter] >> I say [clears throat] yes. I have confidence in you. >> We need all the confidence we can [laughter] >> appreciate it. All right. Well, thank you guys. >> You bet. >> Thank you. >> All right. So, now we'll move on to number five, approval of the [clears throat] agenda. And I do there is one change to the agenda in addition uh 19A approval of a supplemental contract. I think that's the only thing. >> Yeah, that's all I got. >> So look for a motion to approve the agenda as presented. >> Amen. >> A second. >> Marlene. All those in favor say
I. >> Opposed. Motion carries. Uh number six is the resolution to the resolution to establish election of schoolboard officers in July. So for Jared and Christine, just let you know, um there are school there are some boards that that will take care of this now. Um you know, with with the new addition, but for us, it's just been our >> it's Kansas law that you have to do it in J or you either have to do it in January or you have to pass the resol >> the resolution to move it to July. So our normal business calendar is July 1 through June through the end of June. So we elect officers in July, >> which is kind of how we've always done it. So So this is just the resolution. >> So this is
just a resolution to say that >> we are going to elect officers in July of 2026. >> So I'd look for a motion to approve that resolution. >> That motion, >> second, >> Cassie, thank you. >> All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed? That passes. And the next one is uh a resolution establishing regular uh meeting dates and it just states that the meetings will commence at 700 p.m. Uh the day of the week is Monday and it' be the second Monday unless noted and here in the boardroom at 203 Southeast Cardinal Avenue. >> I'll make that motion. >> A second >> Lori. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. And that passes. And then we'll have to get everybody's signatures on those before before you leave. Do you want
to pass them around? >> You have an extra pen. >> Just so we don't forget. >> Do it now. Marine's got She's >> just pass that with the >> pass that one. >> [snorts] >> All right. Next, we'll move on to number eight, the consent calendar. Uh the minutes from the last meeting are in your packet. Uh as well as the bills. Uh anybody had any questions on the bills or the minutes? If not then transfers. >> We do not have any >> no transfers [clears throat] for a motion to approve the consent calendar as presented. >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. >> Jared. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Motion carries. All right. We move on to communications. Nothing. All right, we'll move on to >> Oh, did
you sign this one? >> So, number 10, uh, reports. Uh, Smoky Hill. I'm trying to think. Uh, it's been a while since this meeting in December. >> [laughter] >> should have reviewed it ahead of time. Mainly they are the biggest thing there is we've been uh they switched insurance companies uh for health insurance and so there's been a lot of uh work going on with >> uh our employee handbook and that kind of stuff. >> Who did they go to? >> They switched to >> it was Blue Cross, right? No, they had they left Bluec Cross a long time ago. They've [snorts] been through well they not this last year, but the previous year they were on the Blue Cross plan for the chamber in Hayes. they switched to uh the the service centers in
Texas formed a healthc care pool and they've opened it up to other states now and other service centers and it uh so yeah this is their first year in it but so far so good everything seems to be >> good deal >> it has uh there's some like a lot of the medications and stuff have to be done by mail and that kind of stuff, but everything's been running pretty smooth. So, >> they've been pretty happy with it so far. But, uh, yeah. So, that's the the big things that have been going on there is, uh, insurance stuff. It seems like >> workers compensation was another one. They joined the KSB, uh, workers compensation pool, which is where we get our workers compensation insurance from. Uh, so yeah, it's been a lot of insurance stuff
the last couple months, but that's really about it from Smoky Hill. Uh, special co-op. Well, on that insurance, uh, we had also an insurance renewal, uh, I believe for the liability properties. um not anything astronomical, but I did mention to them about our our insurance if they were get to that point where if they wanted to look at something different um um the new one. >> Yeah, the kicks >> that. So, so they were they were glad about that. and then just got another grant from the Hans Hansen Foundation to continue to reimburse uh some of the teachers who are working there. Not all of it gets paid, but it's still some some it's better than nothing. So, um that's all I have to report. All right. Any other board member reports? The only thing
I have is we did have a good time last Friday at the the new board member training uh we attended and uh it was good to have some conversations and let them know what what to expect as much as you can because until you until you [clears throat] sit here as you all know >> uh it's all new so it's nice to have a little bit of background before you sit in the chair. So I was glad that we all got to to go do that. All right, we'll move on to principal reports. >> So, our K6 students have earned 10,000 RIP tickets at this point in the school year. So, on Wednesday, we have the Zoo program from Rolling Hills coming out. Um, so our each one of our um classes have a chance
to learn about animal adaptations. Our goal is to get 15,000 red tickets by the end of the year. They're not going to have any problems getting back. Um, we received our new appliances from the PBS PTO during the break. So, we have a brand new refrigerator, microwave, and stove in the workroom. We have two Fort students joining us this semester. One will be student teaching in fourth grade and also in the special education room. And then just today we finished setting up um an intern that will be coming for the daycare. Our district spelling bee will be held on January 21st at 8:30 in the cafeteria. And then we are also hosting the Brooks County Spelling B this year. That will be held on February 3rd in the auditorium at 9:30. Teachers are busy making
plans for our 100th day of school which will be January 28th. and also for global play day on February 4th. And then finally, last Thursday, um about 22 of us from the district enjoyed a fun evening at the library. Um it was a complete surprise. Our sunshine committee [clears throat] had asked the library to just host a trivia night for us. Well, little did we know Jamie Dwey removed her librarian hat and also recruited u many community members and local businesses to help treat us. Um, Sacred Heart and all USD employees were invited. When we got there, the library was transformed into the set of The Price is Right, complete with Bob Barker and Rod Roddy. >> Um, so we just wanted to say thanks to the local businesses and community volunteers. Um, everyone had
a great time and everyone walked away a winner. So, if you haven't heard about it, it was fantastic. >> I saw videos of it. Looks like it was a fun time. >> Yes, it it was great. We were all a little bit nervous when we got there, not knowing what to expect, but it it was amazing. So, that's all I have. It'll be fun. >> Thanks. >> Thank you. >> Um, uh, for the for the high school, um, I'm just going to start off with a couple things to recognize some students. Um Ryland Welmer um earned the presidential scholar scholarship to Washburn. Um it's awarded to students are among the highest applicants to Washurn. And then uh on Friday uh Hayden Stab won outstanding wrestler for the tournament. They every tournament they uh the coaches
vote and they pick a wrestler and she uh was awarded that for the tournament on Friday, last Friday. um events, uh grades, uh we're we finalized grades last week, um and grade cards, uh should go out this week towards the end of this week. MCL tournaments, uh coming up, uh for basketball, the seating will be done this week and then that runs from January 18th and 25th. We're hosting with Norton. So, we're going to have, you know, games that we're kind of some we're hosting, some are not, and uh and we're going to get that all kind of moving and and out there. Um wrestling is being hosted by Wikini TGO for the MCL tournament, and it's January 30th. Uh we also have the MCL art show in Ellis on January 21st. Um and then
there was something that's coming up this week, Senate Bill 302. Um, just to keep everybody up to date that they're discussing that on the 15th at 1:30 that has to do with cell phone policy. Um, it's a recommendation for a bell to bell policy, meaning that cell phones and and uh earbuds, all that stuff would be not allowed during the school hour throughout the state. Um, if it goes through, it would be something that would affect us next year. So, just something to be kind of aware of. I've already put information out to parents on the newsletter that I have just so people can start knowing as is possible, but we'll know shortly. Um, sports, uh, high school wrestling, uh, just our last tournament, girls wrestling, we had four girls place, uh, Lillian Garcia and
Hayden Stab placed first. Cadence Carter placed second, and Kaylee Klein placed third. Our two top records right now we have Hayden Sab at 19 and one and and Kaylee Klein is 16 and three. U boys boys wrestling we had three boys place at the SL South tournament which was a pretty it was a pretty big tournament. A lot of big schools. Um Rick Bethl uh placed first. Uh Colobby Nus and Ryland Hold placed second and Owen Brewster um or excuse me those were our three that place. And then top records that we have right now, Riddic Bethl's 13-1. Colobby, Ryland, and Owen are are all 11 and five on the season. High school basketball, uh, boys are four and four. We beat Oakley last week, lost to Victoria. And then, uh, we'll have a makeup
game on January 26th at Kingsley. Um, girls are 1 and seven right now. Lost to Oakland Victoria last week. And then they're going to have their makeup game. It was from the the snowed out game on January 26th. That would be at home. And then junior high wrestling started last week. First tournament's January 22nd. And that is all I've got. >> Oh, and did you see I know I've already passed this, but just mentioning his name made me think of um Riddic Bethl was selected for the Shrine Bowl, which is super cool. >> When [clears throat] did that just come? >> Congrats to him. Huh? >> When did that come out? How did that >> yesterday? I think yesterday >> like over the weekend Jan. >> So that was really cool. >> Awesome. That's a
good deal. >> Yeah. >> Good. Thanks. All right. We'll move on to superintendent report. >> Get that. >> All right. Bear with me. I've got a I got several items on my on my list tonight. So, I'll get through them as quickly as I can. Uh in your in your packet, which you can either look there or you can look up on the screen, whatever more comfortable. Uh we did get our preliminary legal max. Um and so I just to just to give you some reference you can see in the 2425 our our general fund you know we were at the 4.3 for this year at 2526 our general fund of course again preliminary um they were they were showing 4.4 and then of course with our local option uh budget our LOB we were
we're a little bit higher this year than where we were last year as well with our local option. So um anyway that's obviously encouraging. It's I'll continue, of course, I guess, to watch and see. I mean, this is I share this. Um, this is this is just as much my first round as as getting that that notice in the mail and reading through it. I'm like, okay. So, [cough] you know, I'll definitely keep my eyes open and watch it, you know, how that goes on throughout the year. But anyway, just wanted to bring that to your attention. And um you know I not that I was uh necessarily worried but you know our our enrollment you know was slightly down a little bit than where we were last year. So I mean obviously I knew
that that was going to have a little bit of an impact but um you know clearly with just all of our other waitings and things like that we're still we're still turning out okay. So all good. Um, back in December, uh, this of course was after our our meeting last month, we we did we received a a gift donation from Aster Bank for 1500. They presented that uh to me out at half court at one of our ball games there before break. And then we also uh Jamie came down and and shared with me that NextTech had also, if you can remember, this actually rewinds back to the football season that Next Tech does their their touchdown donation. Um, and so I don't I don't know what the statistics were, how many touchdowns we we
ex scored this year, but Nex Tech provided us with a check for 200 for that. So I just share those with you that we've got those taken care of. Uh, Tuesday, January 6th, uh, that was the day we came back or I guess, excuse me, the teachers and and staff, we were all back on Monday the 5th. Students came back on January 6th, but it was on that day um was I was scheduled for 9:45 that morning. I participated in the district bond hearing with the with KSD and the finance department and that was not stressful at all. [laughter] No way. Yeah. What a way to jump right back into school and everything, right? Have a Zoom with the state finance department and everything. But no, it it went very well. I actually it was
I enjoyed it. I mean, um, of course Dale Bungard is a gentleman who I've had many phone calls with throughout the year and I appreciate his assistance. And then Frank Harwood of course is also uh that's just another name I'm getting more familiar with when it comes to school budget and finance. So both of those gentlemen took part of that. And of course it was my role then to talk about the needs and cost and meal rates information that they're pertaining to this potential bond you know that we're that we're working through. And so this was actually just one of the requirements. Al all districts that are taking a bond to their communities for a vote, the application has to be approved by KSD ahead of time before and they actually they mentioned that there
were 12 scheduled for that day. Um so I was one of 12 and so it was a very like get in, share your stuff and then they were as much as they wanted to visit, they were also like okay you're out next and you know they kept it going. >> You're done. >> Yep. You're done. But before they [clears throat] before they kicked me out, they did inform me that um they were that uh they it was going to be their recommendation to approve our application at the state board meeting. So I got good feedback from them. So that was that was great. Uh a week from tonight, January 19th, um we will it's a non-school day. It's an inservice day for our teachers. And so I just share a few of the bulleted items
that I'm going to bring to them. Um I'm going to share with them of course another update of where we are with our with our bond. I highlighted the elevator uh the basic training for staff. The reason I highlighted that is because we are finally I mean we are like at the 99.9% complete on that project which I'm so very thankful for. That has been a very long ongoing uh ordeal and we're just uh we are finally there. I in fact um I'll also just think Cameron Iikoff was he was the one that I brought in to he did some trim work for us. He did some lighting that needed to be improved. I mean, he really just brought some finishing touches to that that just it really makes it look sharp now. So, we'll
uh we'll get some paint and get some things like that done and and we'll be done. So, that's just it's good. The E3 uh I I think I did I share with that maybe or give you guys an update on that. The E3 is uh that's just the new uh alert system that we will have on our mobile devices and and actually it'll actually connect with with computers in the classrooms as well. So in the event of a fire, tornado, intruder um currently right now we do have that but it's called um Tom I just went blank. >> Stop it. Stop [clears throat] it. >> Stop it. Notify. >> I was telling you to stop it. [laughter] >> Stop it. He's telling Stop it. notify. Yes. Uh so we're just we're making a switch to
E3. They're gonna it's going to provide us the very same thing but probably more. Uh Tom and I have been working on that. It also has a a map feature so that you know it in the event that say for instance if I'm in this room and I signal a fire, it's going to identify this location is where the fire is. And so the fire department knows this is where they're coming. They don't go down to the science room, you know, a block away. come here. So, it's just got some features that we're we're feeling good about. So, that's going to be a part of that day on Monday. And then maybe even perhaps the the biggest piece of of Monday is there's a gentleman that I've gotten in touch with, Mike Ronin. Uh he
is with Capers. He's in fact his his title is a capers uh field uh expertise or I don't know. He travels. It sounds like this is this is exactly what he does is he goes around and and provides information about capers. And what I also appreciate is um through his recommendation is he wanted to set up two different sessions. So we've got it titled titled the the piggy bank posi and the exit strategy crew. So obviously it's just he's going to have one conversation with those that are more along the earlier stages of their careers and you know retirement is still one of those things down the road but it's you know the time is now to plan for that and then then he'll >> yeah [laughter] >> then there's going to he's going to
switch gears >> and he'll talk to those that are just much closer you know where retirement is you know perhaps just around the corner and you know maybe some decisions and things like that need to be made sooner than later. So, no, I I share that and I'm going to share this with the staff, you know, Monday. I am this is not at all an attempt to try to push anybody towards that. It's not at all that I I want to keep keep people right where they're at. But, but it is good. This was something that the teachers came to our our PDC committee and just asked. You know, it's been a long time since we've had anybody talking about capers. So, it's it's good. It's going to be a good update. And regardless of
which end of the spectrum you are, you're if you're one of our our younger earlier ones, it's you need to hear some information to make sure you're planning planning ahead. So, it'll be good. Uh just another in fact, I guess in your packet, too, uh I mean, it's there if you want to look at it, but there is a an alter coach activity bus. That was another project that I I spent some time on um before the break, even a little bit during the break. Uh the paperwork is complete. I've got the notice um uh the confirmation came from government capital on December 29th that our funding's been approved and I finally put the final signature on the paper. So I think really right now we're just waiting for a bus to to show up.
So we're we're in good shape with that. Uh and I also too if you want to look in there there's another one there's a paper in there that has Piper Sandler at the top. And again, it's there for you to look at if you want, but really I'm just notifying you that Clayton Kelly, who of course, um, he's our individual [clears throat] that is working with with us with the bond. Piper Sandler is our our bond council. I signed the agreement, of course, that, you know, he of course has already been doing some work with this, but I just we made the dotted eyes and crossed our tees to make sure that that's made it official. >> Made it official. Yep. Uh just some dates again that I've got marked on my calendar. Then let's
see our annual I was notified let's see that I received a email on January 2nd that our annual KSD audit they will be here at the district February 9th and 10th. So that'll be another again first time item for me just to kind of see that process and how that goes. So I've got that marked on the calendar. uh our KISSA 2.0. Uh maybe I'll just back up a little bit and share, you know, for for Jared and Christine, let you guys know too that so KISSA is that's our accreditation model. All schools in Kansas, of course, are following and going through that together and just going through making sure we're doing all the things to to keep our accreditation. Um back in October, we had what was called the school improvement day and I
have in there it was the admins, Mrs. Bobc, Mrs. Hobus, and Mrs. Crowe. we traveled to Philipsburg and we took part in that and you know we're sharing our goals and and things that we're doing to move forward just again to keep keep plugging away and doing what we're doing. So, we we took part in that in October, which that was a big accomplishment there. And then as just part of the KISSA process, then you have what's called the six-month check-in. And so, ours is scheduled for uh Thursday, April 9th. And so, there will Amber Miller is our basically she's covering all of Western Kansas. Um she comes to each school district and she travels around. So, she'll come to us on the 9th and sit down with us. And again, we'll just have that
conversation to show what we've been working on, what we've been doing, the data we've been collecting. Um, and just again making sure we're on course for accomplishing those goals and and then again, we continue to do that. And of course, KST will say, "Yes, Plainville, you're you're still accredited. Keep doing what you're doing and we'll move forward with that." So, again, Kissa is you'll hear more and more about that. That's that's a big item on our on our >> routine conversations I guess. Um, as Chris mentioned too, I just plug put a plug in there that obviously Friday Chris and Christine and Jared and I we we traveled to Colby and it was it was a great day, good conversation and thank you both very much for joining us that day and doing that. >>
Learn a lot. Yeah. Um then last Friday also that January 9th, I don't know if if some of you may have been maybe you were there at the game or if you were you're tuned in to our our bird's eye view. Uh you know, this was just with with the changes with the Planeville times and everything. I just felt like this was a great opportunity to uh bring some recognition and and thank Candace for all the time and effort and energy that she's put into to the paper and to our school and to our kids. I mean, you know, you you could never step into Cardinal Jim and not find Candace behind the camera and then lo and behold, you travel as far as who wherever and >> there she is behind the camera, you
know. So, she I just I wanted to uh definitely just do do something for her and recognize her and thank her for that. So, I I took the time to I called uh Sharon and I called Rhysa. And in fact, I don't know if you guys on Friday when we were in Colby, there's a few times I had to step back and that's what I was doing. I was making calls back to these ladies like, "Okay, what do we got? [laughter] We got to pull this out, you know." So, it was it was great. We I thank those both those ladies for helping me and do that and thank you for them. It was good. Uh and then on the last um um on our board business calendar, I noticed that it is a a
January item that we just simply look at. We have enrollment projections. So I did put together some some graphs for us to look at. I do apologize. I know those the numbers are extremely small. I share this not necessarily to pay much attention really to the numbers as you can just see just the trends. Uh the red line up top is our district. everybody pre-K through 12. The black line there that you see, that is the elementary and then the blue line is representing our junior and high school. So, um, in fact, I think we were talking about this a little bit on our trip back from KBY, you know, what, 21, 22. You can see we >> we had some extra kids, some more kids come through our doors that year and it's and
it's kind of been doing that ever since. Um I you know I also I can remember and go back to you know those years we saw a huge increase um in our preschool. I mean really when you when you see kind of what our elementary numbers was almost matches what the district I mean that push came from our from our littles in our elementary. So um anyway I share that so you can kind of see you know kind of what our past history's done and maybe give a little bit prediction of maybe where we're heading or where we might end up. But this was the one that I guess I feel like I spend a little bit more time focusing on. Um the color-coded box there on the left, you can see that's our current
that's our 2526 enrollment. Um you know, those numbers have changed a little bit just simply because we've we've had we've had some students move out since the start of the year, but we've also had some others move in. So for the most part, you know, a preK through six number, we're we're around that 247 range. Um, so then when I look um, for next year, what I did was, of course, I just take all those numbers and I just bump them down a grade level. And for next year for 26, 27, I'm just, you know, crossing my fingers and and hoping that we can still pull that 45 number of preschools in the door, right? We've and we've been around that area for several years. We've been in the 40s. So, I'm just plugging in
that number 45. And then um of course you can see we have 31 sixth graders this year. So those 31 sixth graders will get pushed over to the building across the street. So as my pro as a projection for next year, you know, we're looking at maybe 237. You know, I mean, but you can see there's a a slight difference there. Um when I look at the the building across the street, um this year we have 31 seniors. So again, taken into account if I'm if we're going to be graduating and pushing out 31 seniors and then I'm I'm pulling in 31 seventh graders though or next year. So, we might just end up exactly right where we're at at 191. So, you know, the thing of it is is that I guess I if
I was to roll the dice, you know, and and I go back to this this scrap here, you know, where we haven't been going down. And if I was to I guess I say roll the dice, if I was to make a bet, you know, I would I would bet that these numbers would be higher. You know, we we would see some more come in. So, you know, I when I look at that, I it's it's promising or it's optimistic for me for sure. There seems to have been a little baby boom, too. So, >> we might see that in the last three years. [laughter] >> Yeah. A couple years from now. >> Yep. You know, the um you know, when you I I don't have that course here to share with you. Um I
don't know if I've necessarily seen the graph myself. It's just that some of these other meetings and things that I've attended. Um, in fact, that Frank Harwood, that gentleman I mentioned earlier, he's paying obviously a little bit closer attention to it, but as a state, um, the number of of births across the state is is down, >> you know. So, I mean, it's just, you know, again, that's shared not necessarily to kind of just put us all in alarm. It's just that's that's the trend we're seeing as a state as a whole. Birth rates and things like that are just on a downward trend. And so it's like well you know other schools yes there's plenty of other schools across the state where declining enrollment has been a year after year after year thing and
thankfully for us we have been on the opposite end of that conversation. So you know we'll hopefully keep doing doing the things we're doing and keep seeing the kids and families come our way. So >> yeah. >> Okay. >> That's my report. >> All right. Look for a motion to approve [clears throat] the reports as presented. If nobody has any questions, >> I'll make that motion. >> Thanks, Marlene. Second. >> Second, >> Lori. >> All those all those in favor say I. I >> opposed. Motion carries. All right. And you think 15 minutes is good though? >> I >> Okay. >> If you you're more than welcome to adjust. No. >> You think that's You need more? >> No, I don't. >> I don't think we need more. I >> Yeah, 15 minutes. Good. >>
Yeah. >> Okay. >> I move we go into executive session with Superintendent Chris Reinhardt to discuss [clears throat] administrative contracts pursuant to non-elected personnel exemptions under KOMA. The open meeting will resume in the boardroom at I forot 40 at 7:55. I'll second that. >> Oh, yeah. >> Oh, you forgot the lines, didn't I? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed? Motion carries. We are in executive session. So actions on number 12, look for a motion to approve the extension of Mrs. Dobson's contract for the 27 2028 school year. >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. >> Are we doing amendment, I guess? >> Yeah. >> Marlene, all those in favor? I think it was Cassie and >> Cassie and Jared. >> I started to >> Cassie and Jared. All those
in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed? Passes. Uh the extension of uh Mr. Hans contract through the 2027 2028 school year. >> I'll make the motion. >> AZ. >> I'll second. >> Marlene. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Motion carries. And then Mr. Reinhardt's contract extension through the 2027 2028 school year. >> I'll make a motion. >> Marlene, >> we'll second. >> Christine. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. And that passes. Next we'll move on to number 13. Uh discussion of recommended board policy updates. >> No, it's just that time of year. >> More fun. >> In your in the packet is a pretty healthy stack of KSB recommended policies. And so, uh for you guys, what we'll do is um I'll share with you
um I'll share them with you for one month. So, now you can take them home. And what we could we sometimes talked about just the the joys of some late night before you go to bed reading this will really get you tired. [laughter] But you have a month to go through it highlight you know you can see of course I provided you the the red they provide you a copy so they can show like what what KSB is recommending that they're they're taking out. Um and then what we'll do then next month is then we will go through them um and app for our policy vote. And so they talked a little bit about that on Friday if you can remember. Um you know this these are their recommendations you know we there there majority
of the time I guess I would say there's a large number of them that yes we just simply take the recommendation you know that KSV is providing us but you know there have been from time to time we come to AC across a policy that we will amend a little bit more that fits us I guess. So, I will admit I I've only skimmed through I have not really read much in detail as far as what they're bringing to the table this time around. So, I'll definitely do my homework and be more specific on what they got next month. So, enjoy your All right, we'll move on to number 14. uh taking action on approving the Sentinel Times as the new official newspaper for the district. Look for a motion to >> I'll make the
motion >> make that appointment. Second >> second, >> Lori. All those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. >> Motion carries. [clears throat] All right. Uh number 15, discussion and and possible action on school vehicles. >> All right. Up on the screen, what I [clears throat and cough] what I was wanting to do, we in fact, this was uh pretty much the same document we talked about this time. I think it was last January. Uh we we were having some discussion and things like that. So the top uh the top group of vehicles, those those are our buses. You can see we have activity bus, route bus. Uh those are just our larger larger vehicles. And then the bottom grouping, those are all the, you know, you can see we got the two white Suburbans,
the Chevy Traverse, our Ford Transit, the Chevy Malibu. Um that's that's a car that we had in or we still have it in our fleet, but you can notice up there in the notes, you we've transitioned that vehicle into the driver's ed vehicle. we really don't use that much for for transporting staff or students anymore unless we absolutely have to. Um, and then of course we've got C1 and C4. Those are the two red suburbans that we've had since 2013. Uh, one of them we just recently um, uh, changed the transmission, which I I see I've misspelled there, the transmission. I don't know, maybe that's the reason it doesn't work very good. [laughter] We put a tramission in instead of So anyway, uh I shared this uh and like I said, those those red suburbans
um again, we we use those uh we have one of them actually we have a suburban route, so we'll go out in the morning and and afternoon to bring kids in or take them home. We really we don't use those much in our in transporting kids especially like for long distances or late nights just with the age of them and the number of miles. We we keep those closer to us than before. So we can come back to that. I mean I you can see we we we [snorts] do we have a healthy fleet of vehicles. However, probably the one we need to the reason why we're having this conversation is um you'll remember we we lost uh two route drivers and a janitor of course with the Dorenzo family, you know, heading back to
Mississippi. So, so Mr. Irby and I, you know, obviously when that came about, we started talking very quickly that we had to get creative on how we're managing that. Mr. Herby is is taking the he's taking up the slack that we have with our our route in the morning and afternoon. Um like I said, we're utilizing the C4 um to take kids home as as well. But when we get into the month of February, and actually we're even kind of seeing it, we'll probably see it here in January sooner than later. Um you know, you start looking at high school basketball going one direction, high school girls wrestling's going to be heading another right another way. high school rest. Boys wrestling is going another I mean we've we've got so many activities coming up and
with the number of uh licensed drivers for you know our buses and then the number of activities that are going on you know we're we're kind of feeling like we're just going to have to rely a little bit more on our our coaches and sponsors to probably help get kids where they need to be. you know, our and then I look, you know, of course later on in the spring, you know, we we've added baseball to our our activities, you know, here recently. Um, you know, boys golf, of course, that's that's not an addition. you know, we'll once we get in the spring where again we're just we're going to have those activities where um you know, probably a Suburban uh is not enough, you know, but a bus obviously we don't we don't need
to send a team of eight on a bus, but a Suburban is not going to quite get us what we need unless we of course we we send out with two or something. So, these are just conversations that Irby and I, you know, we've been having for a while and and talking about, if you can remember, we even were talking about last year. He was bringing the idea of the 14 passenger, you know, like small buses and he was doing his research and determining like if they're not yellow, that's the, you know, the the rule is if if they're not yellow, then they're not a route bus. You know, those require a little bit different lure. they they still require I think the defensive driving and there there's still some requirements that people have to
to go through but you don't have to necessarily have a CDL for those. Um so we could we could go that route and and purchase something like that. Um, my fear is, or maybe not a fear, my my thought is I I just don't know how many of our coaches and sponsors would maybe necessarily feel comfortable >> driving something like that. >> As to, you know, I go back to the the Ford Transit, uh, it's a 10 passenger. I mean, it it's 11 passenger if you count the the driver, you know, so it's one driver, 10 10 riders, passengers like that, you know. So, we've obviously had that in our fleet for a while and you know, we we do we have coaches and cheer sponsors and we have all kinds of people that load
that up and take kids and feel comfortable. Um, you know, I think something like that it would be something more that I would lean towards, you know, but of course this is a conversation, you know, among you guys too to kind of talk in what direction. >> Yeah. We kind of a couple months ago we kind of talked about that that Nissan Well, we looked at those buses, but they're the cost to operate and we don't they're almost bigger than what we need where the van like he brought Seagull brought that uh >> more maintenance cost. >> Yeah, he brought that uh Nissan passenger van idea. Do you remember talking about that? >> Or did I dream it? Maybe you guys weren't here. [laughter] >> You two might not have been here. No, it was
a couple months ago. >> Uh I want to say October or November >> is when we talked about it, but he had pictures of a or had the n the stats or whatever. Yeah. >> Sheets on some >> I feel like I vaguely remember. I don't know. Maybe I if I wasn't here I must have watched it on >> Yeah. >> Why? I think I was here though. >> So I of course I just told him to do some homework for me and get some numbers. You know we of course we just pulled when you just go to the website. This is just for reference. I mean if we wanted it if we wanted to look at brand new 2025 you know we're looking up up around the cost of that 56,000. I don't know
what the of course there's the passenger XLT. We're hopping up to the 58. I mean, uh I obviously I don't really think we need the XLT, but if you're looking brand new, you're in that you're in the upward north end of the 50,000. Now, we also um just just another reference, this isn't necessarily one that you know we could I don't know if it's still available, but here a few weeks ago, this was this was available. It was an option. It's a 2016 Dodge model. Um, you're looking at uh 67,000 miles and you know, you're you're down there looks like it it's listed for 34. You know, maybe they would with the discount they would be selling around 31. So, um, you know, and the thing of it is is this is just an example.
He he finds these around. Um, you know, there's you can find that anywhere from a 16 to I mean, there's maybe a 17. You can find some of those that a little bit older, you know, the miles, you know, I don't feel like the 67,000. I don't feel like that's necessarily terrible, you know, but it definitely costwise. I mean, I I you know, I guess again, I'll let I'll stop talking and you guys can tell me what you think in terms of what you're comfortable with and things like that, too. But, you know, that's the thing is I feel like from from where the the communication that I has had, you know, he we feel like we could find something like this, you know, rather soon and we could add it to our fleet. And
of course, again, it's just a matter of we don't want to go out and just find something that's barely hanging on by a thread. We want something that's >> safe and secure. It's going to give us some good life out of it. But >> I I don't quote me. I feel like this was one that I think maybe is in Nebraska that I think, but I could be wrong, but it's >> probably Nebraska is the only state you can find those or suburbans. It seems like >> up there. Yeah. So, And again, I the the Ford one that we have, I've driven it a number of times. Um, you know, even when I was still coaching, we we took the girls to different games. I mean, I've just there's been different things where I've driven
our Ford one and it I feel like it it handles nice. It drives nice. Um, >> is that a 16 also? I can remember >> the one we have. Let's go back. Uh, >> transit 16. >> Yep. 2016. 12,000. >> Mhm. Yeah. So, we've we put miles on our vehicles, that's for sure. And >> I know that's why >> and I feel comfortable with that used one up there. I think if it was over 100,000 miles, I might be thinking different, but um from my perspective, just kind of like everything's coming up, you know, >> ahead. I I I want to make sure that we're spending the taxpayers money wisely and >> yeah, >> I think in my opinion that would probably be the route to go get that one. That's a used one. >>
I agree. I mean, it really easy. I mean, I I bring this just for a reference. This isn't I don't know if this would be what my recommendation would be. I mean, yes, it would be nice, but I'm with you. I think something like we can find something around this. I feel like >> the price difference from new to used. >> Yeah. And I remember when we were discussing the the coach bus, I thought we were pretty set on vehicles. Is this changing because >> activities? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. Activities of kids that we have and >> because I remember talking about that when we were talking about buying the bus and we were like, "No, we're pretty good." Yeah. It should be set on Yeah. >> I remember that too. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's
just that there's been several times where uh on this calendar everything is booked including that driver's ed car. Uh yeah, we've there's been some times where we have like I've taken the driver's ed car because it's just me by myself going somewhere and it's like well that's that's fine. I don't have to worry about a passenger over there tapping the brake on slow. But it we've just said like if there's somebody just going solo somewhere and absolute have to, we'll we'll utilize that car. But for the most part, it it stays here and it's it's just being used for that driver's piece. >> 24,000. >> I know. That's what I was thinking, too. Well, and part of it also has been part of it also what's changed is we don't have as many bus drivers
>> and so >> finding somebody can drive something >> finding somebody that can take that second activity bus somewhere and does it make sense to send nine kids in a 30 passenger activity bus and pay a driver to drive them as opposed to Yeah. So, that's kind of what's changed is just the amount of drivers that we have and it's kind of changed the way we have used things. Uh I that's I mean I don't know I know these these notes may not be making a lot of sense for you but as I'm looking up there things that I was just remembering is that you know once we get there in April and we've got high school and junior high track I mean those will be I anticipate our our bigger teams. We we should
fingers crossed April is when they're telling us that the ultra coach will be here. So, we'll have that in that rotation. And I just I look to that coach will be the one going to a lot of track meets and then baseball, softball, golf, and anything else we got going on. You know, I just anticipate those will be the ones those will be the activities that we'll be utilizing the other vehicles with or something. >> That's not >> Okay. >> Low mileage and they're around the same price but >> same year but passenger. Yeah, I think that's the big thing that's changed. And then with, you know, with not like I don't know, volleyball, I know they've went to a lot of things this year and didn't take they took the van and a Suburban
or two Suburbans, whatever was available. So, uh, like I say again, I think the big thing is the having more options that don't require a bus driver with CDO is kind of the issue we're having. >> You want I don't know. >> You can go back. >> You want me to go back to you back to that or Yeah. Do we have um like an ad listed to hire >> bus drivers? We do. >> And I has I mean so actually we have let's see one two we've got three teachers. Um two of which I think actually are very close. They so they went through and and did their training to to to get their passenger endorsement and CDL. I think they're they're at the point where there's 20 hours of required driving I think
that they have to get. So, they're in the process of completing that. >> Um they still of course I think they still need to go take their test, but we will have um at least some some other teachers that are going to be getting that and that'll be helpful. Now, what Urban and I again have already talked about, which I'm thankful and I'm absolutely grateful that I've got these extra people that have that license, but what I don't want is I'm really not all that excited about pulling the teacher out of the classroom in the middle of the day just to go drive a a bus or something [clears throat] in the morning for a track. >> Yes. Yes. [laughter] >> I know we need to get those kids there, but I just we're pulling
the teacher out of the classroom and I don't want to make I don't want to make that or have it either, right? you know. So, >> have we had any um anyone interested in the bus? Like the ad that we have out, >> have we heard from anybody that's on it? >> Most of the communication, everything's been going directly to Mr. Irby, not necessarily to me. And he has he's talked to me that he's he does have some other people in the community that are interested. It's just that again, it's just the the time frame of them getting on and getting the test done and getting their hours and stuff in and getting all that done. Probably we're not going to have it done in time for this. >> Yeah, [laughter] >> we might be
good to roll next year perhaps, but I don't know necessarily to say that we'll be ready by March. I don't know. That might be a lot. >> We obviously need the vehicles. We're not going to be pulling any off the fleet to trade in or nothing like that >> because we are >> the only thing I I did put up there in red. You can see obviously the the current activity bus that was already we're we're trading that off for the >> ultra coach. Oh, got >> so that white Yes, we will not we won't have that anymore. >> That was that was the whole reason kind of way we did. Yeah. >> So that bus will be out. >> It is most of the time anyway. [laughter] >> Yes. It's not a loss. >>
We're not going to notice anything different probably. >> So yeah, that one. >> But yeah, like you can see there, the other activity bus is what 48 passengers. So like a lot of times when the volleyball team goes to a varsity event on the weekend, they'll take suburbans as opposed to a bus and so or suburbans in the van. And so that's where having the extra van because sometimes they've had to keep their roster to what fits in the vehicles >> or who who travels into what fits in the vehicle or the managers have to find their own transportation >> out of the JV who drives to watch. >> Yeah. >> Wait, so okay, why are they taking all those vehicles and not the bus? >> Because you don't have anybody to drive >> drive.
That's the issue. >> And you need a CDL, right? >> Yeah. >> A CDL. >> And I like you said earlier, I think >> if our coaches had to drive, you probably feel more comfortable driving something like that, >> right? >> By van versus I mean, I would I would want to drive a school bus. Even though it was a small yellow one, I'd rather die drive like a van than that myself. I know that's kind of what [clears throat] the conversations that Chris and I had, that's kind of where we were too is uh especially if you were driving uh any distance and >> I got a CDL >> just parking and all that. >> Yeah. >> So, you just say you have a CDL? >> Yeah. I don't want to drive a bus
with that many kids. >> Oh, come on. >> No, I mean the I mean the risk factor. Hey, there's another >> driver. You have you have a good excuse now because you can't cuz you're on the board. So, you can't work for the school. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Can't get paid to drive a bus. >> You got paid a lot on your shoulder, >> but you can't uh but he can't donate his time either. So, >> Oh, >> darn it. >> Yeah, I bet. [laughter] >> If you're like me, you have the CDL, just not the passenger endorsement. That's true. >> For good reason. >> Yeah. [laughter] the way you can't get suckered into it. But and really we don't have to take action tonight. More just giving if we're interested in having him do
research and find some a couple options to bring back or I think is >> yeah that was >> is uh is sufficient. uh like but I know like there's several days coming up on his calendar where like all those vehicles are being used and and it's just getting a little more and more difficult. >> And we don't have a full-time bus driver right now. Is that right? We don't have just somebody dedicated as a bus driver. >> Just an R. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And Kermit. So, so Kermit, we were actually able to utilize him a little bit more, but he um he's actually getting to a position where he's going to be able to go back to his full-time job a little bit more regularly now. So, he was he's already notified that >>
he's still on our list, but maybe not being able to >> utilize him as much. You know, another strategy or another person we're keeping in communication with. But again, of course, Mr. Brock Meyer, um he was driving a lot for us last year and that was great. we were running into the example of here we are pulling a teacher out of the classroom and you know again we we were just we knew we knew we had to get kids to places. Now he's he's been driving for Fort Hayes is my understanding. So >> um he's he's told her he he wouldn't mind at all coming up here and and taking taking whatever. But it's but Fort Hayes is obviously his first priority and it's just got to work with their schedule first, too. >> From
what I'm hearing, they keep him on the road quite a bit. So Fingers crossed there might be a evening or two or track meet or somewhere that we might be able to utilize that. But again, it's just nobody that we feel like we can just count on, you know, it's it's hard. >> So, yeah. I mean, as Chris mentioned, I mean, if it's really just kind of some direction as far as what how you want me to move forward, >> right? >> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and the other I guess the other thing for me too was with those buses like TMP has those smaller buses uh was the price. Once we started really seeing the price of them, uh they were a little they were in the 70s 80 [clears throat] >> and like
the ones that he brought to us, the prices were quite a bit higher, too. So, I kind of I kind of feel like the van would be the best the best option. So, good enough. >> Yep. >> All right. We'll move on to 16. Uh discussion and possible action to approve uh board computers. So, this is something we've talked about a couple other times because we used to have Chromebooks issued uh and do going digital and getting away from some of the paper. uh just to save trees, I guess. Uh and uh so what the idea was is if we uh if Mr. Winters found some uh computers, they would just have them here with everything loaded on [snorts] them ready to go when you got here. So you wouldn't be responsible to remember to
bring it to the board meeting. The first time we tried this, that was part of the problem is some of the people forget them and not bring them. And yeah, so then we still had the paper copies. So then everybody fell back on just not bringing them at all. And >> uh I would personally [snorts] I would prefer to have the majority of it digitally and not have all the papers in my file cabinet [laughter] at home. But uh and a lot because all the other boards that I'm on uh everything we do everything digitally and it's archived on there uh because with your uh school email address with Google Drive uh Sharon can create a folder that for each meeting that has all of the the files in there and she sends out an
email and just says that the board agenda has been uploaded uh and that your packet it is there for review or whatever. Uh instead of having to mail it out because then then you also get it earlier as well. There's no delay with mailing the >> but we're not taking right it the Chromebook would stay here. >> So how are we going to look at it ahead of time? It's just still going to mail >> like on your phone. >> Yeah. If you just have it >> or on your >> your phone or any any other device >> any any device you have. Same way you would look up your the access the school email. >> Yeah. >> Address. >> Uh so like I have uh like Smoky Hill, it's on a website and I
can access that from from my phone and uh review the documents ahead of time. Uh it's just an idea. If nobody's game, that's fine, too. I just like I say, I I don't know if I have been. I don't want it to c like I don't want it to cost the school. >> Well, it does cost the school a lot, >> right? But is it what's more costefficient long term? I mean, are you going to have to buy new Chromebooks or are there extra Chromebooks that are >> That's my question. I mean, can the student or would it just be for like us? >> These these that we were looking at, but they would just be >> for the need for us. >> But are they already in house? like we don't have to purchase
them. >> No, I Mr. Wy do some homework as far as to like some price options. So, um he he got some numbers. Um the first set actually I mean it touchcreens and and all kinds of things that we probably don't need. So, he actually then got some other numbers. Um you know, you're looking eight of them. Um they're about 300 347 a piece. So grand total uh 2776 is what we've kind of given be a look out or a look at the cost of it. >> What do we spend on paper a year? >> Don't know >> between paper paper and postage and [clears throat] >> ink >> her time inensive toner. Yeah, >> you could even do away with regardless sending out the paper copy in the mail ahead of time and make
that digital for sure. Either way, you know, if we do the Chromebooks or this, we could still save postage on that aspect by not sending it out and just doing the email. Does that make sense? So, you're still saving regardless that way. Um I don't know what's more costefficient. >> Well, and I understand you're you're the cost [snorts] efficiency. Yes. um you know Sharon and I just in the months of course that you know I've been preparing for board meetings and things like that and of course I'm going to continue to do you know the agenda all that obviously you know doesn't affect necessarily the time there but just seeing the time then that Sharon um with her again the time that she spends at the copier machine and and things there like her and
I have talked about like if we had this this digital system you know there could be a scenario where like If I've got that PDF item that I know I want to share with you guys, you know, I can just get that in there. I don't have to share and make eight copies of this and you know, it's just that I can have it in there. It's [snorts] done. Move on to the next thing, you know. So, I mean, you're right. There's a cost efficiency conversation. There's kind of we've had that time efficiency conversation on our side, too. [laughter] >> You know, there will be still items that I will still say, "Yes, Sharon, >> here's here's these four items. they need to be in in that folder, you know? I mean, there I'm still
going to be leaning on her assistance to help prepare, but I also just feel like there's a lot of things that I could just be doing in between from month to month and just getting that stuff in there and ready. And then, you know, when you guys come in, they're it's there. >> Now, I'm still having a paper coffee every day. >> Yes. >> I'm sorry. How much did you say the the package deal for the computers were? for eight laptops or computers. >> And I mean, those are going to last a while because they're not leaving here. >> Yeah, we I >> actually that's not a bad price. I thought it was going to be more like 5,000. So, >> yeah. I will say, you know, for me, if if we're going to be
storing eight Chromebooks in here, of course, I know we've we've got it, but I have already talked to Tom about, you know, just go ahead and getting a a uh storage cabinet that has a lock on it that we can it would also serve as the it's the charging station, too, so that they can be locked and secured and charged and you we just do that all. So, there'd be, you know, add on a little bit more extra on that, too. Maybe you're looking at the 300 mark. I mean, you had a couple hundred dollars for that cart or whatever it may be. But 347 a piece. And really, I guess Tom, you would put down eight. I mean, were you thinking seven? >> You just like to have an extra one. >> Just have
an extra >> And there is on that second page I showed you, um, there is license, sorry, there's licensing [clears throat] for each one. It's like $35 a piece and that's just a onetime licensing fee. We have to do that every time we buy Chromebooks. So whatever that per item per device was at 35 bucks and then that's that's the cost and then we just enroll them into our our system >> that just come out of like the general fund if that's the way to go. >> And so we don't and we don't have to act tonight. I just made it a possible action item because it isn't something we've talked about before. We've >> talked about it many times, but we've never actually moved towards it. But >> yeah, >> uh it's kind of
like the kind of like the cameras and the microphones and >> you eventually we just decided we're doing it. But >> Chris, you were saying that is it called board books >> and that's K KB has I guess here's the other thing to think about is that right it's a KASB. >> Yeah. So they have there is software out there but I really think for what we're doing I think Google Docs would be fine to just have Sharon create a folder. Uh, and we're also working on getting the uh the full >> So, the full board policy manual is about as thick as that binder. So, we're also working on getting that in there so that you have access to that uh readily and you don't have to take home updates and put them in
your book, all those things. So, uh yeah, I would just like to get some of that stuff. It's just my it's my personal preference, but if if If it's not important to other people, uh, you know, that's fine, too. I just like having the stuff digital so I can go back and find things easier. For me, it's easier to go back and find things >> than digging through my file cabinet. >> That has a drawer full of word stuff, [laughter] >> years ago. >> Yeah. I don't really have My only concern was the cost >> part of it. I don't have a preference either. >> I don't have a preference. Whatever you put in front of me, [laughter] >> I don't preference, but costwise, like I said, it doesn't appear to be outrageous. So, it
seems appears to be reasonable. >> Yeah. I feel like as long as the cost makes sense then the paper doesn't bother me but also >> first meeting I was like I don't I got to figure out what I'm going to file this [laughter] >> what do I need to keep not keep would help but at the same time >> use the paper also so I'm not as big on computers as I used to be so >> yeah I might need a tutorial >> yeah [laughter] >> well Tom's Tom's your guy >> Tom's your Hi. >> He can get you walk you through Google Google Drive pretty pretty easy. >> Yeah, I'm going to need help with that if that's what we do. But >> yeah, maybe we do have a >> I can operate we
could go through this and this is how you do it. >> We definitely if that's the route we go, we definitely can do some training. >> Sure. >> But before that, >> I feel like it's the same conversation with the bus and the bus driver with the paper and the laptop. Like what's what's cost effective? >> But >> two very different price ranges. [laughter] Yeah. >> Right. Right. >> I think I think long term you'll probably save more money because just because like I said I know just what we buy at the office for toner so ridiculously expensive >> if this laptops I don't know how long those last >> five six years. >> Is it eight years? >> The Chrome the Google updates last for 10. >> Oh really? >> And you guys you
know if you're only using them once a month or or retreats or whatever you're not like a student one where it's >> Yeah. they hauled around. So, >> um, but they as long as physically mechanically they work, they're good for 10 years worth of updates. >> So, 10 year period of ink and donor paper. >> Yeah. Well, and I I would say too, I think if regardless whether we go that route or there's just a copy here, I'm fine with them not mailing one necessarily, >> but if they could like But the the bills, if she could email the bills as a PDF attachment or have that in the drive, >> then I'd be okay with not getting it in the mail. >> Yeah. >> Because there's a couple times I'm not good about getting
my mail every >> There's been a couple times it's like, oh, I didn't get a mail every weekend, but I already looked at it on my phone and on my computer and it's like, oh, it came >> after or it might have come that day, but I didn't see it. So yeah, >> I'm okay saving this 75 cents >> on that >> or $150 because sometimes they come in two separate >> not recent this this one didn't it was all together but >> then I'm like you sometimes I don't get the mail in time and I've missed it >> sometimes it just doesn't make it in by the time it goes >> there's been a few meetings where by the time it goes to then it gets me why am I getting it out >>
yeah I think last month something came >> yeah it us kind of deped So that'll be one less that they'll have to print labels and not worry about stuffing that. So >> I agree. I was kind of caught off guard when I was getting this stuff in the mail. I was like, "What is this for?" Oh, okay. [laughter] >> I think it would be better just like in an email. I mean, that way Yeah. you weren't getting all this stuff in the mail. >> Now I know what to expect. But [laughter] >> I think it would be more effective in an email. >> Yeah. And sometimes I forget to check my email. So, you know, either way with me, [laughter] [clears throat] >> I live in I live in four different inboxes all the time,
so it's never ending. [snorts] All right, so we're definitely good with going electronic with information. Do we want to take action or think about it? >> I say just take action on it. I mean, I will move that we um buy the uh a computers that um we've discussed and u and then stop the postage for the um future meetings. >> It's been moved. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Thanks, Cassie. Uh all those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed? Motion carries. All right. We'll get to work on on a new system. >> Okay. And and Google Drive. >> Y I think so. >> Okay. >> I like that. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> That's going to make it so much easier. >> These stacks. >> Yes. >> Make
it bigger. >> And I think I got like three butter. >> Yeah. This is not this is nothing. Make it bigger. >> I would say when we do like the facilities that that one >> when we're talking about that one. >> Oh, >> I I would personally request if we could still have like a paper cup because it >> like it's easier to look at. >> It won't really fit on your screen and then you can take that would be my only >> Sounds good. All right. We'll move on to number 17. Approval of inter agency memorandum of agreement with Ricks County uh health center. >> I'll make a motion. >> Annual item. [snorts] >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Motion carries. All right. And then You think five
minutes is still good >> or do you want 10? >> Let's go 10. >> Okay. I move we go into executive session with Superintendent Chris Reinhardt to discuss certified staff pursuant to non-elected personnel exemption under KOMA. The open meeting will resume in the boardroom at 8:30 or 8:47 p.m. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> All right. 19. Uh, we have a notice of retirement. Uh, I'm writing to in to formally give notice of my retirement from Planeville Junior Senior High effective June 1st, 2026. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Thank him for his service. >> Yep. Thank him. >> Does that mean he has to stay? [laughter and clears throat] >> Yeah. Does that work? >> Dest. >> I don't think you can talk that
fast. Yeah. [laughter] Kind of cared about that. He goes, "Well, just know I'm not going to show up." >> Yeah, whatever. >> He will be missed. >> Yes, for sure. >> All right, we'll move on to 19A is approval of a supplemental contract for Caxton Smith for assistant wrestling coach. >> I'll make that motion. >> Second, >> Cassie. All those in favor say I. >> Opposed. Can you say capston? >> Yes. >> And lastly, a motion to adjourn. >> Second, I'll second a favor. >> Opposed. Thanks everybody.
