kids who are just using this program and I thought that resisting with using the students as as models and locking it up and classic sheets that no students are doing I excel at home so I call their parents and they suggest they log in and they want to do our Excel start school in the morning you can see that I spell effect here that talks about his students answer 15 questions of the questions that kids have answered they're proficient in I just had a conversation with a parent she said I have a math tutor for my son he's not doing he's struggling in class what can I do I was able to log in ties where was Southwest and it could have the tutor work back cell with him and work on those skills that

master and that will start to close the gap so we're excited that we can have questions about how students are progressing also on these which you can see that we have our students have answered over 261 questions from home so we're watching that too how much practice are students getting at home versus on is a theoretical elevate teacher engagement I think the way the net complete new teachers are assigning I excel in that sense to students in this led teacher nature there's a lot of ideas for parents or teachers to use to incentivize the programming to the kind of charts and graphs in their classroom so we're grateful that this is the trying to get moving cost us any extra money out of our personal budget because the funding is coming from be welcome news

for math science and social settings and look what that cannot be our current they concede you have two specialized positions middle school in position and psychology field position so I pulled that new transformation 3:17 see the number of teachers poor so we do pay attention so we've attended to child fairs at the U of A at the Doubletree we advertise on the following website our website attention that goes out to different universities and we just received five new applicants from just yesterday that we will be sending up that still is at 25 but when we have electives and and another way that you maintain our teachers is by covering the percent of their insurance possible so a lot of districts many districts do not cover a hundred percent of insurance anymore because they just can't

afford it I was we shared that some districts are having a 13% increase the insurance next year 10% but we're so fortunate enough to be able to cover so through the natural trim overnutrition qualified and hardworking staff member who are equally qualified motivated caring and hardworking and so I know someone who may have read an article that came up in the paper and I just wanted to reiterate that the natural turnover nutrition news highly qualified people more motivated continue that's what we strive for and yes it's hard to replace teachers who have been working here waiting time and energy but there's a lot of situations that are out of our control so I really do that we will continue to search for people of high caliber to build so budget and financial stability like so

the only way our budget will increase is if we increase our student population and you know that our pythons are growing so we will be experiencing growth within the next you know five to six years we have remaining and typically districts like to carry over 32,000 and 200,000 just to be on the safe side in case of an emergency air conditioning these goes out transportation or whatever it is we have an influx of students that we weren't prepared for we need to have many too our and then from Pharaoh and feedback $54,000 and that is specific for salaries collaborations and programmatic needs for special students so we have to be very specific at how we plan to use those funds and we have to continue to request funds in tax credit funds we are so

fortunate that our see all of our clubs academics and tutorial so you can see the amount of money that we received in the last three years and the amount expended through those clubs this year [Music] we have some clubs who are turning up in terms of our people ball club we've had money into robotics but you just missed our target our robotics clubs so we have funding there that we haven't been using because we have clubs on search for we're continuing [Music] and informational one way is super important on us just get you incredible information that you need and collaborative the two-way communication is equally important that we share what we're doing and have conversations so there's a couple of ways that we communicate with our district website our monthly newsletter and monthly monthly newsletters

were addressed during our parent advisory group so we kind of try to add some more information so people parents that you know of course there's always room for growth but robocalls weekly we're trying to get better at that you know letting parents know when there's a special event to let them know that they're welcome to communication efforts or ideas that also means money and those are third through eighth grade students so we talked about current trends that are going on in our school teaching the very need to talk about whether you think about the curriculum or does he think about the Chromebooks we know many teachers for fellow boards our parent-teacher Club needs money community with parents and staff working together and we just have such an amazing TCC here that I'm so proud of

because they work very hard and you can see them around our baby and just the energy of the time that they put into our school and our students you because we have an admin advisory curriculum committee and emergency response committee we have positive behavior interventions reports committee we have an instructional technology committee a Child Support Committee which is new this year where we're looking at at-risk students and trying to analyze is that attendance of the behavior is it the curriculum what can we do to really have an intervention plan for students and then we have the other which are also amazing and well attended climate surveys will be going out next week and we have climate surveys for teachers for parents and for students at beach below and climate these are very important last year

we only receive 99 parent surveys back and we really want parents feedback because that's what we review in the summer at our board retreat that's what I can review with teachers when we come together and analyze data me and Parenthood are usually that's what we really talked about what what is our community saying and what we need to do progress reports and report cards are obviously something that's very important that we will make a commitment to that partnership or thought every morning at least prior to quarter grades which is something that some teachers do but it is not something that we made an expectation so that's something that we're going to work on because I realize the importance of intervening prior to the end of the quarter Construction for special needs students through ours ieda

a special land grab we were able to purchase a metronome and we are going to be training some of our staff some of our volunteers and our teachers instruction for our students who are at risk and we're going to have it in the special room so caracals and teachers can go in and work with students at different times also one thing I'm super excited about is we're looking at our skills have been changed why don't we have our email matrix full so right now we're in the plan in the process of planning with existing staff to provide art a fight for our teeth for our students and this is going to be at no cost to the district because [Music] we know for students and Families in terms of perfect attendance as well that 19

poses a month and perfect attendance but this is something that we in terms of increasing our recognition for our students we would like to recognize these students during our board meeting and I've also heard a lot of feedback so I've already talked to our board president and we are planning to move the recognition after my report and the report so that students are before so really about our students so it's really nice for them to be able to see themselves highlight that change our third graders nation or will be receiving Chromebooks so next year to take home our new invectives our club mix with clothing and we're looking at writing and reading using our existing stuff as well to lessen the numbers of the event and offering more opportunity progress monitoring 32 and partnership or

things that I mentioned all professional development this is something I was also able to write into our grants so we have books on there on this topic special ed writing reading data-driven instruction leadership attended so we're going to be able to have teacher shoes what they would like to maybe learn more about when she refined their craft and we're going to be able to pay them additional time to collaborate so now is going to be time for questions and answers so please remember that any staff member we appreciate your feedback and ideas so so first off yes your wife students since you've got this capability yes yes and that was our plan we tested it out and we're working out some little tonight it's one of an address tonight everybody showed up here tonight these

are concerns I have and I express express my concern so I did prepare something so go ahead and say it might cover a lot of what you have ever spoken about the my name is Greg Rowe and my son UI scrumpy a fourth grade student here at confidential my that I moved here to the district five years ago when our son started kindergarten we follow many of our friends and neighbors to continental because of the great reputation by content Lee has a good small school because it is a small school and how do we all provide experienced teachers every year the UI has a have outstanding teachers and our expectations as parents has been met by each grade level to my wife died I could not be more grateful to the entire teaching staff for

the commitment they make to make their Continental everyday the teachers here are dedicated and worked tirelessly to provide our children with the absolute best education after five years of seamless transition between very levels in concern with the large number of recent resignations these concerns were expressed by me at the last governing board meeting my first concern was that many of the resignations will impact our salon to create educational tool we're losing the principal of nearly twenty years our school psychologist our fourth and fifth grade special education teacher and our fifth grade math and English teachers every year is a building block for our child's learning and a loss of these key members will create a fractured in our child's educational foundation my second concern was why we have local highly qualified and experienced professional some

of those we even have chosen to commute one-minute an hour to take another teaching job while others have nothing to place and would rather be that way very difficult to understand a continental has not made employee retention a priority for the state of Arizona as a teacher teacher shortage also there are more teacher shortages in the area of areas of English math science and special education which would be increasingly hard to build the result of these shortages places unqualified or under qualified teachers in the classroom continental needs to make recruitment and one portably retention of highly qualified professionals that are top priority as this is key of student success we do not want our school to become a revolving door as teacher turnover harms student achievement discourages educators and is expensive for the district after

all the district cannot move forward when all we are doing to start over as administrators and governing board you are accountable it's your honor and privilege to serve this community please ensure that every decision you made and every value you cast places the teachers and the students first question is and you provide more detail about the program as far as I don't thousand dollars for starters so I was able to order texting material here so that we can test with students in the summer and actually our teacher is here who is willing to take on the testing endeavors in the summer because we don't have like a snitch it would be created develop a plan on how we're gonna service them independently gifted education through art writing to do a zero hour before school or

making after school club once we establish a part of a program then it's easier for me to write grants to state you happens program we like to expand it therefore we request with additional funds to continue it just started testing there's there's black sand over like when you think might have something like that so we're hoping summer and he can plan for the fall and so hopefully we can start to address the students in the school but one thing about the is dog program also is that it does levels through this forest so it helps us to differentiate and extended learning and as well as modifying for students who need more help so all right my my first concern is my children's doctor Spanish Immersion now that they are injuring and in middle school but

their middle schools around so Rita when they go to all the girl for whatever peaceful meadow to are not going to have the same high quality experience and you know it's different version than it is like move into middle school you have actual structures so is there any plans for adding Spanish to the middle school so we search for a teacher last year that can do a middle school attention for Spanish I have our duty is belt in Spanish right now and I know that's not enough it's just a little tiny bit of what in Spanish so whatever our hopes was that maybe our middle school special ed teacher that we hire would have survival skills that would be able to help us or again looking creatively with our existing two language teachers and how

they can help us are very appreciative and while I appreciate it I'm concerned that so much my children's grades are applied to ISL I feel like there's tons of cool online schools and if I wanted them to be an online school I would have them go to MIT I have all my school life issues before we have excellent teachers I love the teachers teaching my kids they want their grade based on what the teachers there's no a program an item that recess was kind of taking away a little bit this year I feel like that's the problem you have to do is running around we have a woman computer at home so it's cool I want them to have an opportunity to run around and not be on the computer all day yeah we have

excellent teachers who I was teaching them I'm sure the next one is great but she's such an advocate they have pizzas you're successful I mean therapy they cried with me that helping it it's hard so I'm and so principle in my head that means and it happened people believe and I'm in against be buzzed situations it's really from a parent's perspective it's really observing see because you know teachers gonna lead and you've heard it not only teachers but staff were you know so he can speak specifically about that I was did not that person administration so like I mentioned like look at other districts right now and today at my superintendent we went around the room and talked about vacancies and there's a high school that has 10 math vacancies in here because the superintendent

next door is offering a ten thousand dollar signing bonus for highly qualified math teachers and he thought that the current school that he was competing with was offering a eight thousand dollar stipend and so he offered ten thousand and the actual district was offering a $2,000 wages so that's going to be a huge cost to that district but we went around the table and most of the vacancies are similar to what we have in terms of administration I understand follow up the safe but if other schools are doing that can we tie if we're looking for qualified people and that's what it takes why would we kind of look at that and say oh they're all right now try to consider so again we have the budget that we have to work with in terms

of what we can um author and you know we do work pressure between our teachers and retain our staff but again design for professional and personal reasons mr. teachers you know I'm well aware you're well aware and the board mr. chair members of the board that it takes for village and that's not to say that we'll know if he does it's a joke I think it's kind of a representation of this slide these are not talking about my village you're kind of picking which which statistics you want to show if there's a building I understand you're losing support staff administrative staff school nurses and that's the village that it takes to train and educate a student at its worst understand so I just like to know on me professionals that have decided to leave alleged

loss do you understand why you block them because if you don't understand why you would lose some people you can't come to a solution as to how you're going to retain them you have to understand the problem in order to solve it or HR office the HR office takes care of them so I plan to surely see that one so I all right show me go back and find out when they're scheduled to occur right inside you I and what are you gonna do since this was in the paper what do you do so this is why I wanted to publicly state that to counteract what the paper said that's the natural nutrition or the babies hearing and blood working staff members and we will continue to recruit new teachers who are equally qualified so

it was not my intention for the globe to insinuate that we do not have hard work to be motivated teachers because we do we have a lot of people in this village means worked very hard to get us where we are and so my commitment to our teachers and sure or is that people continue to foster what we continue to build I've been able to build on what the past superintendent had left in place to follow through so it is it is my commitment that we will continue to speak out qualified motivated it alters well I'm hoping that keep it here in Seoul we're hoping to really get the message we're live-streaming the meeting people will have access to the PowerPoint so I really do want to emphasize that we are using highly qualified teachers

and staff and that it's something that superintendents on a regular basis and I know we're trying to avoid that because we definitely don't want to appear revolving door I don't want to be a revolving door I don't want my teachers back to be a revolving door either as I know that we have to continue to build the team and work hard at ensuring that we are providing the best or our students okay this is the first time I've heard I don't read to bring bad news and the first time I've heard about the position was leading but I'm kind of confused how a fourth grade teacher is now suddenly qualified to be in charge of a whole entire school correct me if I'm wrong but that's not experienced in having a degree of Bachelor of

Arts degree from the U of A and a master's is somehow the equivalent to being qualified granted I only have one kid and she's only been here that doesn't seem right that doesn't seem qualified where did I mean Sunnyside School District what are Sunnyside School District's scores where do they rate what were her class scores how is she is a teacher what to critique her parents of her students say how who was she where does she come from well it doesn't answer anything this is just a little snippet and that looks just like rhetoric that we're just supposed to swallow like I said I'm sure more than happy he was huge so she had been in the ministry she isn't a very highly so she's in a position that because of budget Terry constraints and

how they maple she's an academic behavior support specialist so this is Wi-Fi assistant principal hasn't been a principal some people from the foundation kind of Isis reading teachers I make sure I guess this goes to transparency and if I see the list of the Advisory Committee this is our first year here I I asked teachers to recommend parents who are involved too to commit so teachers give us the name we are looking and oh that at sending out information for 119 minutes of the meeting of what we discussed or what decisions we made because that's where our as parents last year and this year they look at the questions and actually the questions you will receive on her parent Climate Survey are questions that caramelize so that's that so we're really on [Music] in there

and how about my issues did you guys receive that survive yes okay how long did you post opposition so and so we decided to just go through with we did have one person apply after we can already do interviews and do so much and we're ahead of those those applicants previous leader principal know there's some kind of bill going through so I appreciate you know I think what would help people I mean you don't even energy to exit interviews know necessarily what kind of not individually but generally speaking why folks are telling you they're leaving whether it's pay whether it's five eight weather is they don't like the channel I mean what what is hearing as far as generally speaking what people are saying you're not what arcade probably not as competitive as what larger

districts you have over there to million dollar budgets I'd like to interrupt you just just to underline that we are not permitted under state law to talk about specifics in this and that's why I'm just so and there are there are some reasons that should we give more specific answers they would identify people and that would be a violation of our duties so if you have some specific questions I would suggest that you would make an appointment with mr. Eko and sit down and talk to her that's going to happen people don't stay abreast and I don't know those numbers in the Saregama the ordinary or a flat when you have turnover like that we're going to be concerned that happens I'm just speaking from an apparent and as someone - I'm also going to

get over this government openness and transparency and I think people don't feel like they're getting answers they don't feel like they're getting when all they did is you know prepared statements and they're not getting an answer as to what are the issues are there cultural issues is it people don't like each other I'm not saying we don't need to know specifically why any one person left but if half-a-dozen people leave and they all say it's teacher or a sister getting out of teaching I mean it is a combination of all of those things I mean I know I don't want specific reasons but if people had work idea of what the issues are they probably would have this way I don't know waiter no this is coming from I think there's one person in here

that you can fight to be working here for Ichi and number two teacher pain when they come on they know what it is it's not a surprise so it is because Oh [Music] I worked in the front office for the parents that I had not met yet or I think pretty much I've seen everybody but I want to say that I think our communication has gotten so much better people are getting notified more than they used to before I think as far as happy people or not I'm not sure that happy is the right word but there's a lot of us that are very content very satisfied very fulfilled that we work I think there is more of us that are feel good feel passionate about our jobs and those that don't and those maybe

find happiness of morale I'm fat and I have been here 17 years and he has tiny mary McNichols brought me into the comment on family at that time somebody had to die at Hawk Mountain to get it you were an awaiting list to get into this school this school was proud this school had heritage my father Hall went to the original continental school I know I wanted to be here from him I wanted to be here because it had a reputation I wanted to be here because my kids love their school my son is hearing-impaired I had the best specialist team to help him I think we can get back to that I just think we need to become community and a village I think you mean the transparent I think we need the communication

it's not all bad here there are some great things about continental still there's some great teacher still here I think we just need to come together and stop looking for there are still a lot people so when everybody's complaining about teachers leading the other look at the teachers who are sustainable and why the interstate you know change is difficult people might change some people don't do well with change but when certain situations arise if they feel that they need a change they know people will make a change it happens it's a fact of life so we should be looking at all the people that are here and committed to your children [Music] those men were same step States we're not saying that at all we just were craving answers to things we read about in

the paper before we do anywhere else so I I don't I appreciate all the comments and I and I agree you're losing a few folks they're highly qualified they're key to some people but I don't want to come across it Oh jump was a cranky was in there trying no I'm I'm here because I'm interested I'm here because I want that transparency I'm here because I try I want to try to make this better I want to be involved in try things better but I want to come across like a little bit of cranks no we're just here for asking for answers and transparency over our stakeholders members I'm happy to welcome any that is why the year here we have committed to our mission and vision statements that we do our teachers who do

them with our kids every year our pre-service dates are talking about our mission and our vision and how do we embrace the vision and mission how does it become part of our daily operations and how we make decisions and our mission statement teaching excellence and academics life skills and character I have committed to our mission statement our board is I know our teachers are and our parents are all of our staff members I see we have bus drivers who are working and doing unity practice with kids on their spare time before their vows so I know that we have committed people our community is amazing our volunteers our teachers there's both few of us that they have to wear the million hats and if we joke about the fact that you know we have food

service people and this relation from driving bus routes when we're short we have pair of pros who are stepping in and doing cross training for students we want to provide the best for our students we have teachers who come in into zero hour practice in the morning at 7:00 and parents who bring their kids here at 7:00 in the morning or been our TTC like adventures the hours that people forehead I'm building for the future future learning to operating and caring and that's what I'm committed to and I know our staff is committed to that and as well as our board so I as we've already made a few changes based on great ideas that staff and questions please fell off the yellow form put your contact information so that I didn't
