Everybody, thank you for being here. Um, we're going to start with just uh like I don't know, welcome to the meeting. Um, we're start having this meeting on September 16th. Uh, can I get a motion um to approve the agenda as it stands or would you like to make any changes? >> I motion to approve. >> Can I get a second? >> A second. >> I second. And then that's three out of the four. So, we are all in favor. So, we're going to go ahead and move forward. Um, the next part of our agenda is a call to the audience. Do we have any public comments, Hilda? >> No, we do not. >> Okay. Um, so just keep moving forward. Uh, we're going to talk about the crosswalk for the new policies and the
change recommendations from last year. Uh, I think James and Evan, I know Evan missed it. I did not complete the homework. So, for now, um, those who did, we can go ahead and go through like anything that you had to share. Uh, and then we can just like carry over if you didn't get it finished like myself, we can do it later. Um, I know Amy said she finished it and James, it sounded like you did too, right? >> Correct. >> And then Evan, are you good? >> Okay, I'm did >> perfect. So then um we can do just like checking on each one of those policies and then we can move to like new policies that we hadn't gotten to yet if that works for everyone. Does anyone have any thoughts or concerns about
that? Okay, cool. Um real quick, I'm going to share my screen to explain. I did not take notes last time. Um let me see. So, what I've sent everybody is just it's gonna it says agenda right now, but it's really just our notes. Um, I will try to take notes like throughout as we go, but anyone else is welcome to take notes on this note-taking. Um, and this is going to be just like an overall of what we're doing. So, not notes for the work, but notes for the process of the meeting. Um, I thought we could summarize public comments. If individual members have updates, like for instance, homework or those few times that I would meet with somebody else and would share those things, we could do that next. And then every time before
we leave, we'll decide like what our next to-dos are. So, we already have them kind of ready to go within that agenda item. Um, and then summarize our updates for that particular meeting. Uh, next meeting, if there's anything in particular that we need, I don't know, just is there anything for the next meeting we need to do special than normal? any questions we need to get answered by someone else. And then are we assigning like homework? So, I have no preference. We don't need to have all of these components, but those were the things I was like, if we wanted to look back and have information on like our meeting, this these things would be it. Um, so the end. So, I'm going to put no comments. Um, does anyone have an update outside of
your homework? >> Okay. You know, I just want to say thank you for putting this together because I think um having like the homework section is going to be really helpful for myself. I was uh trying to remember what I was supposed to do for my homework and then thankfully I found my note on a sticky note shoved in my bag. So >> that was kind of what happened to me too. And then I was like I'll look for it. And it was MTSS one day. So I was in a meeting the entire day. Um okay. So then just moving forward with like today's plan, we'll just review each policy that was homework and then we can kind of establish like the order we're going to do new review policy on if that works. Cool.
Uh who would like to start also? Sorry, one last thing on this um for helpful links. I'm just going to put the agenda for each meeting linked there. And then I could only consider I only could think of the completed policy thing was something we continually go back to, but if you guys have ideas of like helpful links that should be standing or things you want to add, feel free to like add them as we go. Everyone should be an editor. Um, okay. So looking at the completed policies, um we have people were going to check tobacco use, drug and alcohol use, student interrogations. I think that might have been me, so we might have to skip that one. Uh complaints, concerns, and grievances, and then the restraint. We already did. Is anyone wanting to
feel brave and start us off on like your thoughts and questions? >> Um I can start on mine. I had Oh, I left my note in my office. It but I believe it was under student conduct section 5305 and 530 5A. Um when I was looking, >> am I correct? I maybe you it's 5305A is student conduct and then Okay, perfect. But it's kind of a it looks like it was tied to drugs and alcohol. So there's probably more to the new policy than just this. >> So the old policy when it talks under um 5A under just under student conduct there is almost identical to our old policy. I mean almost word for word. The really only differences between the two that um really stood out to me was when it talked about um
the old policy was talking about regulations and the new policy I believe was talking about procedures. That's really the only difference between um the 5305. However, the A section has a lot of different components and goes into much more detail under the new policy where it lists under student conduct lots of different components. I don't know what it is under the old policy though. I do know that it's there under old policy. Um, but it talks just all of those different con um sections in terms of like what's expected of student behavior, you know. Um, I'm going to pull up my notes back up because they just closed on me. Thank you. I love it when it logs me out of that. Um, but I know there was it listed quite a few different things
under the policy manual under section 5305A. So, I did not know if we wanted to spend some time looking at that >> um because >> that wasn't under the old policies that we were reviewing. But it is does fall under student conduct. It just lists a lot of different sections. >> Okay. Let me ask to summarize what you're saying. So 5305 just in general was nearly identical. Like we can kind of move on from it. >> Very correct. Uh then I'm putting for like the to-do today is we're probably going to need to go to the like a portion of that and start seeing if it's aligning to old policy or if it's brand new to us. But I'm going to count that as like a to-do for group work today. Does that sound about
right? Correct. Like so for example when you look under um old policy it talks about everything from like drug paraphernalia but then goes into prescription drugs um all the way down to things like toy g or toy guns um vandalism weapons threats defamation and I don't believe the old policy went into that much detail. All the words you said are words that we did go over but in many different places. >> That's right. This is all under one section under student contact. It's almost like the old policy was like this is how they shall behave and this is how it aligns to all of these different components of different situations that it could possibly be. So it could probably be in many different sections. I because I wasn't a part of it last year. I
don't I don't have that answer. >> You're not like recognizing No, that's really fine. So, I'm going to put that um from your homework, a to-do we have that maybe we I guess we're going to probably get to today is review 50 5-305A to align to what the work we've done previously, but just in general 5-305 we can move forward with. >> Correct. It's almost identical. One says policy, one says regulations. >> Perfect. >> Not regulations. One says regulations and one says procedures. >> Got it. Okay. So then uh Evan or James, which one? >> So um I had uh the one about dress code. So originally the JICA um RA and then it's a new policy 5302. >> Got it. Okay. >> Um obviously the JICA is that very general one. Mhm. >> Um
but if you compare the JICA- R to the new policy of 5302, they are like nearly word for word identical except the new policy 5302 has a section in there that allows um tribal regalia to be worn at graduation if the student is enrolled or a member of a federally recognized tribe. And so that piece is not in our previous um policy. >> Okay, >> let me >> that's a statutory change. >> So I think that's in there because I believe that policy was updated based on a change in statute. >> Okay. Okay. So then I share this tab instead. >> All right. Since it's just that one part, why don't I'm gonna pull up and let's I mean I don't we have kids currently doing that at Monav Vista, so I feel like we're
fine with that. Sorry. Tell me again though, what number is it? Five. >> It's 5302 and it's all the way at the very very end. It has like a subsection called uh tribul at a graduation ceremony. >> Okay. Um sorry, let me trying to see if I can uh All right. So the district not prohibit anyone who's enrolled that right that sentence. >> Yeah. >> Can I just get like an agreement? We're all good with that. Or I'm sorry. Does anyone have any conversation they want to have about about that in any Cool. Um so then I think then we can just like say that this one's like ready to go to move forward with and then >> Okay. And then the next part though, besides the student attire. Wait, what's happening? Sorry. How do
I get Okay, I'm just going to start from the beginning. I don't know how to get back to that part that I was at. >> It's kind of hard to go back on it. >> Yeah, >> it takes you back like to the main thing. Okay. Let's see what I get. Maybe Evan, I I'm like now just like loading. Was there any like sub things for for that particular for students? Oh, I don't know what's happening. Mine's like freaking out now. It was slow earlier today. It took me a while to load and get into things. And then I had the same issue with the back button as well. >> It takes you back to the very beginning, but it was taking a long time to load. I don't think it's I don't think it's
your computer. >> Gotcha. Okay. So then this looks like it does it doesn't have any like A's or B's to it then. So we're good to be done with it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So then she had this tab instead. So nearly identical. Move forward. Um, this is a question I have for Jay though, like what are we going to do when we once had regulations in the policy? Like because like what are we doing about regulations and exhibits? Do we need to take time? >> Yeah. >> Um, I I my thought is um so we need to replace a lot of that with with the procedures and the forms. >> Okay. And um there are what are they called like model procedures and forms or at least we can get access to and the
ability to use some of the ones that have been developed. So, um, between this meeting and the next one, I can reach out to Lilian Lee. Uh, maybe can help me with that and we can ask like how do we how do we go and mine those? Because I'm thinking what we could do is we could just grab whatever the recommended forms are and then just as a team check them to make sure we're okay with we're okay with them. Uh, then we just make the board aware that we've updated the form. that doesn't require board action. Um, but if we aren't okay with them, then we may want to look at what some other districts have done and customize for ourselves. Okay. >> So, the best example I can give you, Adriana, is I
know you did some work around like our DCS forms and rather than using what we used to have, we were like, "Hey, what we have is like 87% identical to DCS's own form." And so, we standardized on their form. So, if we, you know, if we get the one from the trust and it's DCS's form, we're like, "Oh, yeah. We already know we want to use that. But if we get the one from the trust and it's different, we might say, "No, we've had this conversation already. We'd rather use the DCS form." And then we can go ahead and drop that one in. Does that make sense at all? >> That sounds good. Um, so then >> and I think, um, Jay, that she had sent us a link with the sample procedures. >> Okay.
And um Adriana, I don't know if you noticed on the policy there's like a little word thing and if you click on that it'll download it to you as a word document. >> The policy >> like a I see a PDF like you mean a PF PDF? >> No, it'll it'll actually do a word. >> Share this. So I'm sharing this tab and then I'm looking at this one. >> I think it's the second the second to the last. >> Oh download word doc. Okay. and you know so if you wanted to make changes to this policy we can download it as word and then you can drop it into Google >> so that you guys can all see it but um it does let you download it as a word document that can be
manipulated >> okay that's awesome um so then the next thing for so on the like completed form sorry I'm sharing I'm going back and forth and sharing a bunch of different tabs so JICA They basically didn't have like the overall policy thing, but they had what we were calling our regulations, correct? That's what you were saying. Okay. Um, do you know, we didn't look at JIC AB. Did you look have a chance to look at that? It's okay if you didn't. I'm just wondering like are those things are those like next for student attire? >> I didn't and I because I didn't see it in our in our folder. I couldn't find it and so I wasn't sure where like where I could go to find that. >> Let me look really quick. Uh it's
actually I think it's actually an old it's a different drive. I don't know if you guys have access to the legacy policies. Um >> so let me Oh, I just stopped sharing. Darn it. Let me share what I'm looking at so you can kind of see. >> I do have that drive. I forgot about that one. >> No, you're fine. So then students Ja. Sorry, I got to look and see what it was called again. I forgot. J I A J I A. Okay. So, you were saying that this they didn't have, but this is pretty like just general and it was >> okay on there. So, then um then we just confirmed that JIC was fine. So, here's the one that we didn't get to. Um do we So it's cloth face coverings. Um
so technically I think we we'd say like oh this is a part that we don't have like let's either update it starting from the beginning because we haven't looked at it. But it also is cloth face coverings and it looks doesn't say when we added it. I don't know if it's outdated. Do >> is that because of COVID that we added those? >> That's what I'm wondering. Like is it even necessary? >> Yeah, I think that's because of CO. >> Yeah, it was because of CO. >> Is that our old policy? >> This is the old policy. So, this is >> because I think that was renov, you know, revised at a certain point. So, that might have just been the old one in there. >> Okay. So, how >> and I see that Katie
has joined us. >> Perfect. Where would I see You're right. This is old policy before the second time we went with um the trust. Where do I find those policies now that they've been replaced on the website with the manual or >> I think we'd have to do a search. >> Okay. All right. Let's I feel like that's a convoluted process we couldn't solve today. So, I guess let's just see. Does anyone see any reason why we should recommend including face coverings in the governing board policy? Um thoughts. What do you guys think? Let me ask a question. At your schools, do you students still wear them? >> I do have kids who occasionally wear them. >> Um I mean I do have sta I I did have staff that would occasionally wear them or
students when they were a little bit under the weather. Um, remind me is the policy is saying that students are allowed to or they shouldn't. I'm assuming because it's COVID, it probably says that they are allowed to wear them. >> Uh, let me go and look. So, we're So, just to clarify for you, we are looking at the super old policy. Um, but let me see. Where are students? It's more like saying that everyone should be wearing one and the only people who should not be is if you're a child under the age of two, you have trouble breathing or you're unconscious. >> Oh, well then I don't think that needs to be a part of >> Yeah, that's that's six feet away covering coughs and sneezes frequent handashing. >> Okay. Yeah. So, we're not
saying that they have to. Okay. So, then I think we can just put like on the completed checklist policy here. We're going to say like outdated and unneeded if that works for everyone. >> Yes, >> I think so. And I just looked at our new policy and did a search and it doesn't come up. So, I I want to say it was removed even >> on the ASBA one. It's just we still had that old one in that folder. >> That's my recollection as well. Um, and I just sent you guys the link with the sample um um policies that they had sent us. Okay. Um, so then I think for like in terms of progress for today, 5032, we're fine. There's nothing to do to add to it. We're good. Um, James, do you
want to start? Uh, where do I find Did you send it via email, Hilda? Sorry, >> I did. >> Okay, let me open up my email, too, so I can put it Um, just so we're like knocking them out. We can look right now at the dress. Sorry, James. I asked you to go and then I'm like, "Oh, maybe we should wrap this up actually." So, >> no, no worries. >> Bear with me. Let's go back to the student dress code. Um, 5302. That's what it was, Evan. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Um, so this doesn't have any like procedure with it at all. Procedure is regulations, right? That's what we established. >> Are these the sample ones? >> I Yeah, this is with the link you just sent me. There's >> Okay. because it ba
so basically if we if we don't see >> and where it says policy forms I think that is the procedures >> okay so policy is the procedure and exhibits that were initially like our regulations those probably are these A's and B's maybe >> I thought it said something else >> let's look at this so 501. So 5-105 is a policy and this does look like what we were calling policy in our old one and then there's something linked to it that's a procedure which I think is now reg what we used to call regulations right >> correct >> okay so let's see if they're regulations have exhibits because the forms that we used to we used to call them exhibits one day Yeah, I think it is. I think it is their website because I'm
trying to click on it too and it's just floating. Uh, >> and I think they actually call them forms. >> Oh, there you go. I see forms right here. Got you. Okay. So then for dress code five, where's did it go? Do you Okay, let me start from the beginning. Sorry. 302, right? So, we got student attire. The there is no procedure for it. So, there's no regulation for student attire. And then the forms are what we used to call exhibits. Let me see if I can find a form. Are you guys as confused as I am? Is this something that I'm just not getting and you guys? >> No, I am very between policy, regulation, form, procedure. >> I get policy. That's the one I've got. >> And procedure is going to be what
we used to call regulations. So, it's the like how are you going to implement the theory or concept we've created. Um, yeah. Procedure is our regulations. I just can't seem to find a form at all on here to confirm that those used to be our exhibits. >> I don't think we have any on there yet. So, because if you see where it says policy forms, >> Yeah. >> it's empty in there. So, I think >> we don't have any on here. We kind of have to look to see what forms we want to add. That's so weird because I just saw the word form and I hit I clicked the wrong Okay, they do have them here. Some of them. Um, so there was like a DCS form. I think it's um here. Yeah. So,
a form. Okay. So, I'm going to put it in our notes so that we're all aware. Um, so synonyms basically I know how to write those words. Policy equals policy. Um, and then I'm just going to put like concept or belief. That's not the best way to describe policy, but that's how I'm keeping it straight in my head. Then we used to have regulations and that is now going to be considered procedures. And one way to think of it is like the how-to. Um and then now what used to be exhibits is the forms. Um which we used to think exhibits were just forms. So I'm not going to put a definition for a form. Does that Does anyone have any questions about that? because now it's clear to me, but that doesn't mean that
it's clear. Cool. I don't know. I don't hear anybody. Okay. I think >> Okay. So then there isn't anything else. So now we can totally move forward. Okay. Now we're ready for you. James, what was your homework? Uh my homework was to if I if I listen to the video correctly, my homework is to crosswalk uh 5-300 and 300A with uh JI and JIR. >> JI and JIR. Okay, cool. Um so uh basically like the overall is is that J uh policy 300 and 300A are I mean like uh Mr. Man was saying before that um it's much more streamlined much more legalistic. It's a lot more legal language um and u it was uh more procedural. uh the JI and JR JIR uh goes a lot further uh and a lot more detailed uh
when it comes to student centered rights uh like they specifically talk about like with the restorative experience you know that u they uh JIR frames it in the purpose of like a student right um not just a procedural step so uh conceptually the two are very similar uh but the difference is that JI and JIR go a lot more detailed in terms of student rights. So I don't I don't I mean I guess it depends on how far we want to really kind of dig into it. Um this is one of the first things that we went through. Yeah. Um and if I remember correctly, like the policies that we covered very early on, uh were one of the reasons we wanted to uh to actually update them was because they were uh very not
studentfriendly. Uh well, maybe that's the wrong phrase. They were more uh I think the the board was saying that they had a lot of uh what was the word they use? Car carcel languages. Car whatever that word is >> carceral. Thank you. Carceral language. Um so it wouldn't surprise me that um that the the language didn't have u like that student rights approach to things. And when we updated and added it, that's uh some of the things that we kind of went through and just kind of this is a student right. They have a right to be able to do stuff. So, >> okay. So, sorry. That's So, what I hear you saying is unlike the other ones that are nearly identical, this one definitely is missing a component of efforts we did a couple
years ago. >> So, I don't know if I would use the word missing um just more because the structure essentially is the same. And I I mean it's possible that some of these things are in other places too. U maybe just not in JI and JIR. Maybe it's covered other places. Uh it's just uh the frame is different if that makes sense. >> Hey Jay, are you aware if if that is covered somewhere else >> just from having looked at a few of these? >> Yeah, I don't recall specifically it being covered elsewhere. I do know this was one of the ones that they attempted to crosswalk for us. So, it's a merger of what their standard policy is and they tried to capture the flavor of what our recommendations were. >> Yeah. >> So,
this might be a place that it's worth perhaps digging in a little more and making a determination of whether that was >> if that was truly captured or not. >> Yeah, I agree. Um, which policy were you looking at? Like what what code number were you using, James? >> Um, I was crosswalking 5-300 5-300A with JI and JIR. >> Wait, five-300A. So, I kind of I think I'm in agreement with Jay because we spent so much time on student rights and responsibilities. Let's like as a group kind of look through like see if there's stuff that needs to be added um to what they're what they're saying. Do you have specific examples, James? Like that wasn't asked for, but were did you go so far in depth that you were like, "We said this, but
I don't see it anywhere here." Um >> um starting point >> if you're talking about editing things. No, I did not go that detailed. Um it was just like examples of stuff because I I read both policies and I was trying to figure out, you know, like yeah, >> what is uh what's what because like I said, it's not that it's missing. It's just in uh in JIR it's much more expanded to specific student rights beyond that, right? Like the right to meaningful curriculum and social emotional learning, uh the right to consult with teachers, the right to free elections, you know, stuff like that. Um, it was just the it was more because we did spend a lot of time on it. was more indepth >> uh than 5-300 or 5-300A, >> but we could
easily I mean it it could take some time to if we wanted to go into it, which is fine. Uh but it could take some time to go into it to decide you know do we do we want a like a mirror image or is the the um or do we want to take the approach because I I didn't see anything that specifically wasn't there. Um it was just it was just more in depth. I guess that's the best way to describe it. >> Yeah. Why don't we do let's do like a quick whip around of like people's feelings. I feel pretty committed to the like no those were really important things and that felt like the heart of what we were doing. So I vote to go back in and look at it not
necessarily line by line but like in the same way that we did previously basically. So that would be my vote like dig deep on that again. >> James >> I'm sorry. Did you say my name? >> Roll call now. James what are your what >> and you guys can't vote but you guys can come to consensus. >> Okay. give us your perspective for consensus. My my perspective is I'd like to dive in. >> Um I I I'll say I support that just because I feel like you're right. We spent a great deal of time on it and if you know I I I felt like the work was important. >> Um so if it's uh if it's something that needs to be done, it should be done. >> Okay. Uh Amy, thoughts? I know you
were on the committee at that point, but >> I'm okay with diving into it. That's fine. >> And then Evan, >> I agree. I think uh it would be important to go back and and look look through that just to make sure what the work we did last year was represented. >> Okay. So then, um >> Adriana, >> yeah, >> could I just throw one more thought into the mix? I don't disagree with what anybody said, but one nuance might be that because where the differentiation was was in the -ash R and since the dash Rs seem to have been um I don't know transformed in the in the different manual to be um the procedures. >> It may not be that the policy needs a change. It may be that those expansionary components that
James found were missing might need to be part of a procedure that we have. >> Got it. Okay. Because it does have a procedure here. >> Okay. So, yeah. So, what I hear you saying is let's not hold ourselves within the restraint of like reviewing the policy because we might need to expand to finding if it's in the procedure. >> Yep. >> Okay. So, >> just so just so we're getting it kind of in our new framework, we're getting it into the right place where where that should live. >> Yeah, I'm doing I'm doing like your typical like new language learner where I just keep translating it in my head and not actually like learning the new the new stuff. So, that's a good point. Um, okay. Okay. So then in that instance because we
are at about 5 minutes from our originally agreed upon time to end um I'm going to put that uh our need so our need is to um like review I guess review alignment of J IIIR and JI to both both of the procedure policy documents and then um let me give you all of my thoughts and then we can figure out where we're at. So I feel like we're definitely not going to be able to do that today. So my wondering is we could download them onto the word doc and then just like kind of like chunk like here's the part that's like closely related and then have them like really actually side by side. Um, and then the the it could either be homework or it could be like when we come together just
say like what are important components that we're not seeing. But that would be probably for like our next meeting. Does that make sense? Does that work? >> What what you you had two options. What what are the option? What's the option you're recommendation? You're recommending >> um Well, and then my other No, sorry. the it's not recommendation to do that. Um or we can like hold on that and we can go to like the new ones because you it doesn't sound like there's anything that's like an affront to like our beliefs and systems. Um so if the other option would be like know that that's something we want to do before the end of this committee, but let's get to the new stuff um as needed. >> So you're saying how what do we what
do we prioritize first? Is that correct? >> Yep. Do you want to prioritize like aligning this because we know that there's a need for it or do we want to prioritize getting to new things? I'm open to whatever. >> I'm indifferent as well. >> Maybe Katie, well, so we probably could use your opinion as a board member. Would you like us to fine-tune and finalize? Uh, so do you want breadth or do you want depth? Well, I mean, um, so obviously we would want to I would hate for us to get so far away from whatever we didn't quite finish last year to then get to the end of this school year and be like, "What the heck were we even thinking about or waiting to do on that?" So, I would say if there's
just a few things to tie up as far as loose ends on stuff that we started but didn't finish last year, I would say let's get that done and then move on to new stuff. But is it if it's just a fine-tuning then then haven't we done that in the background in the past? I guess that's I guess that's the other part of my question. >> I don't know how much fine-tuning it is. I didn't read it. So, but I hear I think what I hear you saying is like let's let's pause because it's not fine-tuning is not the priority. Completion like good is good enough. So, let's go let's go wrap up previous ones. >> Yeah, that sounds good. Sorry, there's a chaotic facetime happening with grandparents right now. >> Okay, so these were
our like needs. Did you have you didn't have any more homework, right, James? >> Nope. >> Okay. Um, so then I will do my homework. Um, and then I'll write it down before I close out of this thing. So um in terms of preparation I feel like I can get together like the fine-tuning document between 5003 and the JIIR so when we are ready for it it's there and maybe that's even homework for next time. Um, what I think we need to decide now is looking at the completed >> looking at the policies that we didn't quite complete. Um, let's prioritize them into like a list so we know what we're going to focus on tomorrow or not tomorrow but the next meeting. So, it doesn't look like we finished um student suspension or expulsion
of students. I feel like there was one more. We were like, man, this is a bunch of pink to have been considered done. Does anyone recall what that one was? Okay, let me James, do you remember or Evan, do you remember ones that we didn't finish last year? Just off the top of your heads. >> Oh, I can look at the notes. >> Okay. >> My notes weren't as fancy as yours were, but I can look and see. >> Yeah, please do. Um, okay. So, share drives. Are you asking where we left off from last year? Is that what you're asking? >> Yeah, because we were There are stuff that we didn't There is things that we didn't I don't think those verb subject agreements either attempt were right. Um there's stuff we didn't do.
So, let's figure out what we didn't finish. >> There's some stuff I wrote down last meeting, but now I can't recall where I wrote that down. And I was because I was looking at some of the other um policies, the new ones to see what they encompass because some of them obviously, you know, don't have the same titles as the old ones. >> Yeah. >> Um but now, of course, I don't remember where I was writing that down. Maybe it was on the agenda. >> Yeah. I >> Are you saying from last meeting or last year? >> Last year. >> Oh, okay. So, uh my little chicken scratch notes from last year. Uh the last meeting was May 12th. Um we finalized everything that went to that goes to the attorney. Uh we recommend that
JBA is now JS. And then it says for APS J IIR uh the investigator shall prepare and maintain document. This looks like a a quote that was supposed to go for the APS. And then uh the last note was J KD and JKE start this with the APS next year first at the beginning of the year before this committee starts. That's the notes that I have. >> So then let me go to so JK student discipline and JKR. So, we don't really have anything to start with that. Um, so it's suspensions, expulsions, and I just saw concerns, complaints, and grievances definitely was not finished. Um, I'm going to put this one in red because I don't if we said that we needed the APs to do it, that's probably still true. So, we'll just hold
on that. And then um expulsions and suspensions. Okay. >> I know there was one with like obviously we had joked about it the gangs and secret societies and I know I know they and maybe the hazing. I don't remember. Maybe it was all in one. I just don't recall. But um I I feel like it might exist inside of another new policy, but I just can't recall where I found it or if I did. But it may be there somewhere different name. >> Um, so yeah, cuz we still do have hazing and secret society still. Um, okay. So these were things that we didn't finish and also like there's really no sense since I continue to look at those. So my wondering is for homework for everybody, let's look at these three policies and just
kind of like refamiliarize oursel what our attempts were and then just start fresh with the new policy. Does that make sense? >> Makes sense to me. >> Okay. So then um and then expulsions and suspensions are Oh, was I looking at something that I wasn't showing you guys? Sorry. Um I was on the wrong tab. I thought I was on this one. Basically, these are the three that we were looking at, but we didn't really actually finish. So my thought is your homework would be to review how far we got. But when we come together, we'll just start fresh with the new policy and start trying to confirm we're good with it. How does that sound? Okay. >> Can I ask a favor? Is >> is there a way or do we know what the
new policy number is under that? So, we just have an idea. >> Yeah, we do. Hold on. Let me If somebody's on the notes, if you could write these down as we go. So for concerns, complaints, and grievances, it's going to be where it looked like it fit best was 1-201 and 1-201A. Um, so let's thank you. And then we don't I uh let me go back to the completed the um expulsions and RJ Kke and JKD would be what you would be reviewing just to kind of like check the vibe of what we were trying to get to. Um but the actual policy that you would be looking at would be Let's start again. While that's going. Okay. Of course. I think it's 5306 >> then it has a 5306A and a 5306B. Okay.
Yeah. So, uh yeah. So, you would need to look at those. So, let me summarize really quickly what I what I'm envisioning the homework is going to be. So like the have to uh please read the policy updates we made but didn't complete. So you feel prepared to discuss incorporating those changes into the new policy. I think bonus is if you start to cross compare on your own. >> Hey Adriana, are these uh notes going to be uh living on the on the shared drive? >> Uh yeah, if you go to the editing folder, it's already in there. >> Oh, thank you. >> No wor no worries. Um no your worries. It's been a long day. Um okay. bonus is to start cross comparing the new policy um to our I'm going to just put
in quotes intended policy. I I'm going to be honest. I feel like that's a lot of extra to do when you're going to end up having to do it with us all together, but like you all do you. If you are you if you want to do bonus, I think it could be helpful. Um, I'm gonna focus on the have to. >> Um, >> now let me ask this. Is there anything that you want me because I know our, you know, you had me look at some things ahead of time last year. >> Oh, that actually would be super helpful. Like maybe we Yes. could you look at the new policies um and see like if you see anything that we need to be concerned about so when we are ready to talk about them
um >> yeah I know that um um Jay had mentioned you know that they're pretty close to the letter of the law >> but I think that one thing that we had mentioned previously is there are some areas where we may want to have something that has like greater protections you know what I mean so it just kind of depends on what that is and what it looks like. So, I guess I can I can go ahead and take a look through things for sure. >> Okay, perfect. And then um so I'm going to put you're going to review new policy for uh greater protection needs. And then um and like I'm going to put general layman explanations, but what I mean by that is like if you know that there's you know some of
the old policy it would be like so riddled in legal ease that we were like struggling um that would be and you explain those very well to us. So I want to add that there. Um, okay. Before we get off, um, so I'm going to be honest. I gave no one any option to say that you'd like to be on till 6:30. In fairness to all of you, do you feel like you would like to continue to 6:30 or do you feel like we are at an appropriate stopping point? >> I feel like we're at appropriate stopping point. It's already 10 and it's going to take time to dive into anything. >> Yeah, totally. Can we um and we can do it right up here too. Am I on? Yeah. Um I'm reading these in
the order. I just wrote them down, but is this the order that we want to look at them at? Do you want to begin with the concerns, complaints, and grievances and then expulsion and suspension, or do you feel like it's more pressing to do expulsion and suspension first? >> I think the order is fine. >> Okay. So >> I think it makes do like a natural build. >> Okay, perfect. So then I think then um just plan to do it like kind of in that order and I'll write it a little bit more clearly down here like I don't know order to review. >> Um >> just to clarify >> sorry go ahead. >> I was going to ask a clarifying question too. >> Um so just to clarify it's student concerns, complaints and grievances,
right? Not staff complaints, concerns and grievances because They don't call it that now. Now it's under um what is 20? >> It's it's in it's in with some of the general administrative and I think it actually is has some common language for both staff and students now. >> Yeah. Um that makes I think that Okay. Yeah. So it's equal educational opportunity and non-discrimination. So 1-201A, but when you're looking at here's what I think I can do. I will link old policy and then just put like old policy versus new policy and I'm um I can link it as a word doc. So when you go in Oh gosh, what am I sharing? Okay. So, in here I'm going to put down here by your homework policy. I'm going to put old versus new and I'll
put links to it. I probably don't want to work the rest of tonight. So, I will make sure that I have it done end of day tomorrow. So, no one can do their homework until Thursday. Is that is everyone amendable to that? >> I object. No, I'm just kidding. >> Okay. So, I'll make sure to do it like that. Does that mean our next meeting isn't until October? Correct. >> Uh we're going to get to that part right now. So, >> uh but yes, I believe you're right. >> It is. It's October 29th and that one is in person. >> Gotcha. Um okay. So, the the next meeting is basically just going to be I we probably don't have a next meeting if there's a to-do, but I'm going to leave it blank for today
because this is basically next meeting. What we have here will be copied for like our meeting. And then does anyone have any questions that need to be answered outside of this for the next meeting? >> Um I I have a I just have a question about the the havetos. It says please read the policy updates. That's just specifically the policies in the to-do, right? >> Uh yeah. >> Got it. >> You don't have enough hours to read all of them, James. Trust me, all of them. >> That thought did pop in my head. I was like, what? That's what I wanted to ask. >> Okay. So then let me go back to the agenda really quick because I'm not sure if I'm remembering all the parts to it. So um call we did the discussion
we thank you for telling us the meeting it's in person. Um does it everyone is everyone still have October 29th at 4:30 available as of right now? October what? 29th. Is that what you said? >> I believe. >> Oh, that's our next meeting. That far off. >> Yeah. Just because of fall break and parent teacher parent teacher conferences and stuff. So, we >> um came up with that October 29th at 4:30 in person. >> Yep. Okay. I still I don't have any conflict since we last met. So, I'm good. What about you guys? >> I'm good. >> Okay. Cool. And in the interim, Jay, if if there's anything I can do to help get any new committee members, just let me know. If there's anyone I can talk to or whatever. >> Yeah, I I
think the one that we're really I think are are I've got a couple folks I'm going to reach out to, but I think the two biggest ones are are we need to find out if Jez is going to return and if not, we probably need to find the other parents. So, >> and I' I'd like to uh put in a pitch and uh awesomeness for the virtual meeting was the first one we did. And great job, Adriana. And I I I like the format. I thought it was pretty cool. >> Yeah, I I'm down with the virtual, too. Like, it's been a little bit confusing, but I think as I get better, I'll make sure that I'm actually showing what I think I'm showing. But I am happy that when I get off, I will
be home. So, like it's worth it, too. >> And I apologize. I was late because I was on the wrong link for a while just like wondering if I missed the meeting already. >> I'm sorry. >> And sorry that you texted me and I didn't see it. >> Oh, no. It's okay. I I don't know. And then I clicked the one in the email and it worked. So, I was like, "All right, fine. >> No worries." Um, okay. So, then I think we're good. Is there any good of the order beyond the bringing in more members before we close? Um, I think I've located that gang, the the policies that refer to gangs and the one and the hazing one. So, I can get you that information. Um, they're not together anymore. So, there's there's
a specific hazing policy. I think statute changed on hazing. Um, and then the the gang references are in student freedom of expression, student attire, and student conduct. So, if we're going to hit student conduct anyway, we'll probably clean up some of it. Okay. >> Yeah. I think there was in one of the ones under section A503A something, there was actually a section under like hazing and things like that under student conduct. >> Got it. >> Okay, >> perfect. Thank you for figuring that out for us. All right. So then in the agenda, um, can I get a motion to adjurnn? >> I motion to adjurnn. >> We get a second. >> A second. And then all in favor I >> I >> Adrien, do we need to stay on? When can we What? How do
we end it? >> You're all good. >> You can go sex it out. >> Yep. Bye. >> Good night, y'all. Thank you so much everybody. >> Good night, everyone. Thank you. >> Thanks, Adrian.
