what e e hello Katie can you hear us okay yes I can hear you just fine sorry thank you and we can hear you too e e e miks are live okay I'm calling the meeting to order uh welcome everybody the uh meeting on the governing board advisory committee to review policies uh and the first agenda item is the approval to uh approval of agenda so if you take a look at the agenda and can I get a motion to approve the agenda please motion to approve I second all those in favor I was opposed motion passes uh next agenda item is the call to the order uh call to the audience excuse me call the audience for uh any kind of things any okay so nothing there moving on to the next one which
is the discussion on policies um and the last time we were here uh we had talked about uh prioritizing certain policies and uh that we were GNA start with jih hopefully you received an email uh from Hilda about jih uh from recommendations from Katie uh about that particular policy and uh then um we can go and and start with that I was thinking that we could go and um just kind especially since we have new people on the committee that maybe we could just go and sort of share our process with what we're uh how we go about doing this and then since everybody literally got the revisions this morning that maybe we could just kind of walk through uh the ji1 um using the practices that we've done before in the past and if
you're like those of you that are new to the committee um if there's nothing is set in stone we just had a uh this is just h a process that we've used before um but if you got a better way to do it or if you have questions about how we go about it we are certainly open to any kind of feedback just really quick I wanted to apologize for the tardiness there was um there was a bunch of issues with my email over the last five days and and yesterday even it was like un undeliverable and I couldn't even log in so this morning as soon as I got in there I shared it so I apologize every oh no worries at all we all Teamwork Makes the Dream work so we can it
actually works out pretty well uh because then we can just kind of walk everybody through how we approach it um and uh then people can be comfortable with that so so um any other comments or questions about [Music] things no okay um so uh if you can kind of look at the if every does everybody have access to the email what time was it at I look for it I didn't get a chance to open it I saw it but uh I got it at 9:30 this morning okay it was a no email from it was and it was just document shared with you jih edits does that sound right too and it's in the folder oh yeah it's in the folder too thank you and if somebody wants to project it oh yeah any
brave soul volunteer person I can let me just get out of and for those of you that are new to the committee just to kind of and if I miss something or if I forget something please let me know basically what we what we started off last year was going in like identifying the policies that we wanted to review as a committee and uh we prioritized which ones that we wanted to address first and uh our process kind of evolved uh we uh we thought it was important to have like a a a legal voice which is why we asked Katie to kind of look at things so we can make sure that we didn't do anything or say anything that or make any kind of changes to things that we knew weren't going to
be uh okay uh uh with the the legal stuff and then uh essentially these documents are open to the public and they're able to see them and see your edits so uh you essentially just go through the policy look at it um and then uh if you want to go and uh make a comment you have a question something you'd like to change uh something that you feel should be included excluded uh you'd make a comment out there and then uh in the past we would go at the committee here today and uh uh look at it one at a time and have a conversation about the question or the change and stuff and then uh make reviews and revisions as is necessary and then at the end of the year we uh would send
it out to legal and make sure that it passes the lawyer test um and then that's pretty much it did I miss anything does that sound I did it um so that and because we at first we were just kind of reading it together and like making edits a little as of the way but it it it it can start to get bogged down a little bit that way um and you can see some of Katie's comments that she's put on here already um but like I said feel free to go and look through it and then um I figure we can maybe give people time um uh my suggestion would be like give people time to read it now and in here and then like Circle back in however many minutes um uh feel
free to add your own comments in there and then we can just kind of go through them a little bit at a time and talk about them that sound okay to everybody yeah yeah uh we usually have Katie kind of run through her comments first oh do we want to do that first only because she was she would give us like a don't touch that oh okay and I don't know Katie if you felt like your comments are self-explanatory enough or if you thought we would need some like on certain things well you know sometimes my things aren't so even if I think they're self-explanatory they're not but okay so that first paragraph regarding interviews um obviously sorry um also can I just know who the two new people are I'm sorry oh yeah oh
yeah why don't we if you guys don't mind just introduce yourself and where you're from and what your role is on what your role is I guess that would be the best thing who wants to go first one two three not it I'll go first uh Katie you know me this is uh Tim canor I was the art teacher at Papo um I am now a substitute teacher through ESI but I'm doing all my substitute teaching here in the district so I'm back at Papo and mon Vista Gateway have been the schools I've been at so far so I guess I'm here as a community member um because I also own a home in the school district and you have a new hair do and I have not since last October okay thanks for being
on the committee Tim yeah of course hi Katie my name is Evan Johnson I'm the assistant principal at Kennedy School this year and previously I was an instructional coach at Mackin welcome thank you so much for being on the committee um okay so um obviously that first section is called interviews and um for maybe you maybe who don't know um my my day job is that I'm a public defender but I'm a public defender for adults so I don't deal with juveniles too much except for some that are charged as adults but what we found just some background is that a lot of the student conduct policies are based out of title 13 which is the criminal code and it has like a ton of overlap so um that's also kind of been why I've
given so much feedback and why I'm the ex officio board member on the committee so that first um section is called interviews and um it says there that school officials May question students regard regarding matters related to an incident to matters incident to school without limitation so um that is not anything that's like regulated by Statute and it obviously says may I think that that is a little broad for my liking and potentially for the majority of the board's liking however I did not propose any language as you can see I just kind of said let's talk about this um as far as the next part the parent will be contacted if a student interviewed is then subject to discipline for a serious offense I think I put a question in there about how is
serious offense defined but then I think I answered my own question because in the next section they talk about um serious offenses or somewhere in here and they refer to the statute so in my mind they're referring to 13706 which is the statute that defines serious offenses um in which case that makes sense but I also feel like we could be more protective than that now they say serious offense because serious offenses are what trigger the mandatory reporting to police um if there is an allegation of somebody committing a serious offense um then the school or the district is mandatorily report uh mandatorily required to report that to police now I would like to see that be a little more protective of of our students and our parents in terms of still uh contacting parents
if a student is interviewed for any potential criminal offense um I think other than just the serious offense because I think we should have a open line of communication with our parents if we're interrogating students about potential criminal activities whe um a student may decline at any time to be interviewed by an SRO or other peace officer obviously that is correct nobody has any there's no statutory or legal requirement for anyone to ever talk to the police um I think what's also missing here is that um when it comes to interviews and this gets addressed in another in another section further down but maybe we can make this a little more cohesive maybe that sentence just doesn't need to be there but essentially laying out for staff students and parents like the rights that are
enumerated to them by Statute in terms of if um a police officer is attempting to interrogate a student the requirement for them to notify a parent or at least make a good faith basis to notify the parent the Miranda requirements all that stuff um so as you can see further down I included that subsection e that kind of goes into the requirements of a peace officer to make a good faith effort to to contact the juvenile's parents to give them the special juvenile Miranda warning Etc um I think this might just be like a stylistic thing where it goes from interviews and then these are subsections obviously so however we end up or you all end up deciding to organize this thematically or grammatically obviously we know how we worked in the past whatever makes
sense um but again I think this is obvious viously the interview section this is like the introduction to these other subsections so whatever we think works in the end to introduce these other subsections before searches um makes sense to me so um okay so then it basically breaks it down into a couple different sections the first one is when the child when child abuse or abandonment of a student is alleged um I kind of explained a couple of these things but one of them is uh did I put a note under or a comment under 8821 why do I have that highlighted uh yeah I can't see it on my phone it says um the only way this should happen without consent of the parent or without a court order is if he a child
may be taken into temporary custody without a court order by a peace officer um that being said we should have them explain the extended circumstances to staff so as to make sure we're creating as little disruption as possible to the child in the classroom oh yes and then I put I put another comment with the definition of exent circumstances from that statute I think that um I think what I just found in this section was that it was a little less ex like it had a little less detail than I would have liked it to have because you know I think there should be like context for staff and students and and families to understand why something is the way it is in here and if the statute provides more explanation we should probably put
that in there um and I'm not going to bash on DCS too much but we know that there have problems with that department in our state and so I'm not going to say that there's always that that when DCS is taking someone into temporary custody there may be circumstances where it's not proper and so um and so and so it might be something that we just want to have at least them explain at least cursorily uh why they are trying to do what they're trying to do at the time um um okay that one that section I didn't have a ton of stuff um obviously I put that info in there about the 6h hour requirement and and and I said we could have you know some more conversation about anything in that the next
one obviously I had a lot to say because it's really about being taken into temporary custody for an interrogation or interview when abuse or abandonment is not alleged meaning it's basically any activity on the students behalf or on the parents behalf um and so I just found a lot I had a lot of issues with this and I think there's a lot of room for um for some wiggle room here for changes and I obviously put in there let's consider sticking strictly to the statute in this section and not making it any more vague or broad um being able to Amendment rights um because whether or not people know what they're entitled to even if they know they're entitled to remain silent um they often times don't and I think if we can just build
in as many protections as possible for our families and our students then that's probably the best thing to do um in terms of that next section about there's like parent consent to um parent consent to interviews um after that it talks about um contacting the parent and I also went back to the statute and looked at this um I have to get in an elevator right now so I'm just going to take like a 30 second pause I'll be right back one second sorry okay good so she so she's saying that her implication is that there's not enough uh Clarity and protections around the student in this particular section of the policy is that is that what I'm hearing I I think that I don't think that she's been like this is the issue that
I have with it but I can gather that's what she's saying just looking at her comment the law does not require yeah I think it's for the student and the parent yeah it could be an interrogation regarding the parents criminal activity or it could be an interrogation regarding the students criminal activity bless you it doesn't doesn't specify you cut out just a little bit and I think what we missed was did you say something about maybe including more information about like Juvenile and like adult Miranda rights in order to like have our policy explain parent rights better yes certainly yes at wherever that fits in um we can figure that out or you all can figure that out um excuse me so and then I also think that we need to consider anywhere where we
can be where it doesn't interfere with the safety of the school or other people and we can be more expansive in our parent contacts then I think we should do that just as a cultural thing in our district yeah um but that's just my opinion um okay the last part is where safety of the student population is of concern um the first part of this talks about if a peace officer is on on campus um to interview students at the request of school authorities well at this time we don't have SRO but that could be a thing in the future and so I think this is a place where we could have discussions about even if we were to have SRO is this what we want do we always want the SRO completing these interviews
or can there be situations where we can just have staff members doing these interviews and I I can add more to that discussion when we have that discussion um again it goes into the serious offense situation but I think we should also talk about when it's not a serious offense what the what what the procedure should be there um and then the next um the next part obviously talks about the mandatory reporting statute um and then I think I couldn't remember if we had agreed on a place where we were putting all those definitions were we were we going to have like a section J policy glossery is that what we had talked about it's been so long that I can't remember now we did we said that we were going to have like a
glossery like I addendum whatever we call it um and we would just make note of like you can go look at our glossery here because um when we were putting the definitions after each policy it was looking like it was going to start getting really cumers certainly okay yeah so there's some stuff in there that I think needs to go that for sure and then the very last part the district is to notify the p and guardian of each student who involved in a suspected crime or anyonic described of obviously that's cool but um just I need to I didn't have anything to say there so I think that's it maybe we could pause and just have you guys look over interviews because it's a big section and then we could do searches after I
could explain that part after I I have a quick clarifying question because it was um this whole section is about like outside of uh like Administration it's like police officers DCS just because the first line is like school officials can question kids and then all of a sudden we just never talk about school officials again or is this supposed to be interviews school officials being a part of this particular section no I think school officials is a part of this section okay because then I feel like there's a lot of stuff that needs to be clarified for sure yeah and added because I think that it operates differently okay cool thank you I am going to my car to then come to you all so I will be there soon okay sounds good so just
so I understand the task is that we're GNA be just looking at this section and then comment and then we'll do searches and arrest after yeah putting comments and are we gonna discuss this and then move on or comments and then Circle back to this later I was thinking that y'all would discuss it right or okay so like just chunk and chew okay anybody got any questions or anything really like I said it's just uh like and and Katie kind of had a good example of like her thoughts and stuff like that from a legal perspective for you it would be your perspective as a community member or whatever uh role that you want to take in um uh word choice uh things that need to be clarified like Adriana talking about like the school
official part there uh because she's right I didn't I didn't even think about that until she said that and I was like there's not a whole lot on there for school officials so just kind of put your put your thoughts out um no no thought is crazy um so if even if it's something that is an oous um chances are somebody else probably has the same thought or question as well too how how long do we want to do this minutes let's try 15 minutes and see where we get say 15 minutes and then we'll check in in 15 minutes and see where people are at is this just for the whole uh document or section for the interviews section yeah from the beginning we're gonna stop at uh where is it stop it stop
at where the title searches I'll put page numbers in this right now but it looks like that's um close to the bottom of page three so read one two most of three right thank you thank you which EX for s okay one other like comment thing um that we started doing that we didn't share right now too is if you just have like you would just like to words it you would just copy and paste the section you're going to Wordsmith and then just do it there so we could just be like cool and then move on um instead of trying to explain what you would like to change yeah right now wait a second so it's not there's some commas I wanted to put in I was like oh that's like for some reason
it's not giv me like a comment box [Music] uh like basically show me where you're at some right here like I really I was like this highlight it like you did right cck control [Music] click y I'm hungry what do you have over there I canm I open oh sweet I wa than for do just okay e on I'm I it's than for o for do we need more time I don't but I'm down to keep working like I can reread 15 minutes we couldn't add more time if necessary you guys still working how about do you mind if we do we do 10 more minutes and then maybe we see if we can wrap up this section and then that'll give us enough time for the rest of the agenda oh 10 minutes my
community Bagel sorry day old it's I yeah sorry about terrible yeah was so um we were gonna stop yeah no it usually goes like Katie tells you something you give ideas we all agree and then we move to the next section must be doing something right on the first six policies right just clarifying question the the item the stuff highlighted in what is that pink red is that something that's what was added or what is that when I read it it looks like that St that she's like don't bother touching it oh can't really touch it anyway so just leave it okay um can you read me like the first sentence of what it was that's in pink you said let's consider strictly sticking strictly to the statue in this section so that we can
protect our kid no oh yeah so um to explain that the stuff in red that's highlighted in red is added I added that stuff in so that you could just see it anything that's not highlighted I haven't changed like you know um if if it it's highlighted it's weird because whenever you add a comment then there's it's highlighting the section that I'm comment my comment is referring to so I tried to use red where I added something um and then there were a couple grammatical errors that I fixed that also I highlighted but anything else it's only if it's not highlighted red then it's just a comment highlight basically if that makes sense and the language that I added that's in red is pulled straight from those statutes that are referenced in those sections so
I'm going to be there shortly and then I can explain anything too and we can pull up the statutes too see okay it's for do you two have access to the completed policies checklist it's kind of like a good overview um it should be in the drive to give you I think it's the second one you open that up and that one right there this one yeah completed policies and regulations that'll give you a little bit of a history of like the policies that we've reviewed already and the stuff it's just a nice little kind of one pager about like what we've covered and what needs to be done still that kind of stuff those are policies we my understanding those are policies we've identified but haven't reviewed yet right I don't broad hand what's
one of the ones that's red well like jih is red the one that we're looking at right now yeah yeah so there's we haven't reviewed yet we're reviewing it now and pulled was something we like decided not kind of set it to the side yeah that was one of the first ones we were told to look at was secret Siz and gang activity but the other ones just felt more pressing to the day-to-day work yeah and then red we hadn't gotten to or even talked about wasn't um can you guys hear me yes okay sorry wasn't pulled also um policies that um the committee wanted to look at I'm I thought we had a section like that the committee wanted to look at but weren't originally mentioned by the board or something like that or
is that another color it's not another color but sorry I'm stuffing my face The Bagel um no you're we had put it in the presentation we had pull that's right ones that we had wanted separate wanted into our work and then just to explain for the two of you we tried to make the the work of the committee as efficient as possible and so when I made the motion during the board meeting um when we created this committee I tried to make the motion broad so that basically anything then this J section of policies could be looked at by the committee without having to go back to the board and ask for permission to look at it if we were to figure out that something was like correlated to the other policy or something like
that and we've figured that that has been an issue in looking at this so it's made things a little bit easier to work through all right everybody ready all right I guess we can just start up at the top there and uh go through and talk about the comments and so first one is from Nicole you want to walk us through that yeah so just at the very top because we've got our sections the the title student interrogation searches and arrest but then our sections are interview searches and arrest should we change interrogations to interviews or interview to interrogations want to refer to these as interviews versus interrogations for consistency you mean yeah for consistency and then also I know going way back when I first joined wanting you know kind of wanting to take
a lot of that that uh carceral type language out was sort of priority for me so perhaps you know interrogation who my comment on that Nicole would be um I think this is important to have it label as an interrogation so that people know that rights are involved here rather than making it sound like a pleasant interview right okay so then switch interviews to interrogations maybe is that I have a wondering about that because I was like oh I see I see both of your points um and I have a question later on that it's because it had like school officials and then it talks about the police but the school officials procedures and like how we do this is typic different and it is actually more um I don't know peaceful it's less I
don't know rights so I wonder if it oh here like screaming into the mic hear you're screaming into the darkness I thought like is my volume out I know my volume was out of control to but I wonder if we do like School interviews outside interrogation searches and arrests because I think through out we're going to end up having to delineate like what an administrator would do and what the police would do yeah sure so you're suggesting like a school official would be an interview and a police officer would be anation I I would think and we're not limited in the name of the policy either so I think that's an important delineation so I think let's Ty my suggestion would be like that's title like student interviews interrogations searches and add and then we'll
have to decide what section this is like if it's going to be like all police stuff then it should be like interrogations or if it's going to be like here's a little of what we do and a little what they do but it's all talking to kid I think maybe wait and see when we get through how messy it looks clean that work yeah and I think as a parent like knowing like okay well the the staff admin they're they get to this is how they get to interview my student this is my my students rights and how this procedure but then and then delineate or know like okay this is if they're getting interrogated by the police like I don't want to do away with the idea though that anything cited to school administrators
can't be used against somebody in a criminal oh I see what you're saying okay I just want to make sure that everybody's clear on that can you repeat that what did you say statements that students or parents make two administrators can be used against them criminally even though you're not required to mirandize them because you are not a law enforcement officer interesting so they could still say that they don't want to speak to you which is your thing right um I just you know something that would need to be laid out here it's just you have no requirement to mirandize them because you're not a police officer and you're as long so long as you're not inter unless you're interrogating them at the direction of a police officer or an SRO the direction of them
then there would be Miranda attachment there but if you're just interrogating them as like a as like an AP in like some regular situation but there could be a criminal implication but it's not a mandatory report but later on this information gets shared with the juvenile court or even the adult court so like for example just made up completely made up if there was a situation if there was a situation that involved a kid from one family and a kid from another family and that parent came up and said I went I saw this kid after school and I chased him down with my car that is a potentially a criminal act and that could be used oh correct and if you record any of those those would be discoverable by me as an defense
attorney I could ask that the state be required to get those tapes from you or any kind of written documentation regarding the interview anything like that um and and then if they say no I could get the court to order it and I'll get it because we have expansive Discovery rules here so would the administrator be required to notify the parent of that but no right you're not required you're not required to mirander no exactly so then I think like in these policies I think it would be a good idea to make that clear that and that's when I was kind of saying earlier but it wasn't going to make sense until y all had read through this that like there's a lot of stuff here that we would need to educate families about because
they're not going to know and maybe school officials won't know and kids certainly aren't going to know right especially I mean I mean taking it there but heaven forbid you know if they want to start sending yes ice to the school and and and you know and they've already been confiding with their admins what's going on at home or their status like certainly and let's say it's that situation then it wouldn't even necessarily be me it'd be like the state wanting all of that information to prosecute somebody so do where did we are we leaving this as is and just with the change of School interviews up there at the top or is that enough to I so as far as the name of the policy itself I we there shouldn't be anything that prohibits
us from renaming the policy legally to what ever yall want the name of the policy to be if you think something else makes more sense Nicole is that something that is okay is that I guess that satisfying question um adjust like amending the the title to something like um yeah student interviews interrogations searchs and arrest like maybe just th um at least for the title I think my's like the covers it for now let's go through and then decide the like formatting breakdown and then that'll let us know what to name this subtitle okay that's cool yeah oh and just for the new people coming in we just it's just in terms of agreement on thing there's no like official Vote or anything like that we're assuming silence is consent um if you if you
have if you have an issue or concerned about stuff um you know speak up just a tent mention recording do we have anywhere in policy about do we have anywhere in our policy about recording interviews with parents or interrogations is that mentioned anywhere in our policy I haven't gone through this one and I haven't seen it in the policies that we covered yeah this one's just student ones but the only things about recordings are like all that special St right I but I just know that it's covered by I've worked at in other places practice and when you you use recording you're not talking about they can record if they feel like it without telling us yeah and that's yeah you don't have to tell people you're recording you can because you were giving permission
to for the conversation to be recorded sort of fascinating things today yeah I just didn't know if it was anywhere in policy about yeah documenting these interviews via recording or anything okay typically typically what practice is is if the person that's come to you chooses to record they're either asked to provide the recording or then you know often will record as well because if they have a recorded record we need to have access to the same recorded record but but consent is not required there's no in state of Arizona there's no okay so we don't have anywhere in policy where if an SRO is interviewing a student that we would want to record that conversation currently no okay however Phoenix police's policy is that doing an interrogation reported first choice would be on body can
second would be an audio okay interesting okay okay um so are are you okay with us resolving that uh your comment there yeah okay um so the next one is the school officials May question students regarding matters incident to school without limitation and that's Nicole's as well too you will walk us through that yeah yeah so just reading that and right off the bat it's like what do you mean without limit ation um regarding matters of incident it's like well that could mean anything so I think having something that's like a little more clear size that's why I said there is discussion yeah so so I Echo what what uh Katie said there's discussion yeah because yeah just comes like ask whatever they want we can I don't know maybe make get like you know
it's what type of in um I think within the three might be the unpopular opinion that's been voiced but what would concern me is that if we start saying you can ask about this but you can't ask about this without how Nuance we would actually it would be more difficult to keep the school safe if we had like a finite list of what we're allowed to speak to Children about because sometimes what's presented to us and then like how far it goes once you start figuring out what the kids um is not what we would necess think my wondering though similar and also very different was what one of the things that it I was suggesting is we don't say in here like um what we would like share like what the kids write through
those conversations are so we tell the kids like it's always um we're gonna ask you what's going on you need to know that like we're required to tell your family and sometimes other officials if you're hurting yourself if others are hurting you if you have a plan to hurt others um did I say that one yeah it's aat you if you're hurting yourself um or if you have a plan for others and then anything you're like willing to share so I wonder if we could put like I hear what you're saying I I I'm a vote on the like keep it as broad as possible about things that we can talk to kids about but maybe like bring it in in terms of when we start sharing with families about like consequences and or like
investigative procedures well maybe that's where the distinguishing between interviews and interrogations because I would say like it would look much different if I like invite you into my office to chat about what happened in the cafeteria today yeah versus like a police officer bring you in so like maybe it's big when it comes to like an interview like I can I can ask a kid to tell me about a situation that happened on campus in this vague way but maybe like yeah the interrogation one needs to be more specific I think the only great area there again goes back to like let's say it's an assault that the other kid's family then uses to try to get a delinquency referral for and now they're making comments in an interview with you that they don't think
is going to have go to anywhere but is now going to be part of some sort of juvenile adjudication or something like that even though it's not a mandatory reporting situation they could be in trouble in the juvenile system for it or or so forth like I'm just thinking of examples I think that's where it's you just said because two new ones for the first go sorry so like let's say I'm I'm talking to somebody about something that happened in cafeteria and it was um an assault maybe not like fight but an assault is very broad too right um and while you may not have escalated it personally at this point we know there's certainly situations where other families get try to get the systems involved right and while you might be notifying that kid
that you're not going to take this anywhere you can't guarant that and they're not going to understand necessarily that other powers that be aren't going to then have access to whatever they're telling you right now later on if they're in trouble for it outside of the school and so that's where I just want to make sure we're like it's a weird it's a tight it's a like tight rope to walk right because if you go in there and say you know anything you share with us we're only going to tell your parents or tell these people in these certain situations but then later on something goes AR because of other powers that be I just don't want trust to be broken there have them thinking that you've been well I can never talk to these
people ever again kind of thing that's fair and I what I what I would say to that is I would rather add and let's say somebody got mad like I'd rather just add one let's just make sure we're clarifying all these things I just didn't know yeah how you wanted to word it say somethingone got mad so is the just quick the question about is the is the issue that it's too broad is it to is it open to abuse what's the concern about this that first sentence yeah I think one that it's open to you know at this point I'm not saying anybody who's currently like who's currently an at in our district is going to keep a kid the entire school day in their office and Grill them I don't think that's happening
I don't think anybody wants to do that um but there could be a universe where that person exists right and so we have to when we're making these policies we have to think about the worst person in the position doing with like weird intentions or doing strange things so that sounds different than what I had first thought so I'm hearing that the issue right now is without limitation and that is more of like the process in which you're interviewing should have limitations and that I can get down with I think for me I was reading the scope of conversation scope of conversation how long it is the conditions it's in where are you like I think without limitations implies to me a full umbrella of stuff so so to modify what I was saying I
think I would like to be like very broad about scope of conversation but I and I think we can definitely up like a process location timeline like that that does make more sense but then again this is where you should think in terms of we also don't want to get so detailed that we're then impeding your ability to have yeah so the the the challenge is going to be um if a situation arises and this is very technical then dealing with the situation will have to be put on pause yeah until we can determine whether it fits within the technicality and then there will also be the additional burden on the AP or the pl or whoever's investigating that if something starts as one thing starts to become something else then have they stepped outside
of that lane and so you know the the challenge is there isn't a so when you're dealing with policy it's not like law where sometimes you have the leeway to go ahead and get a court interpretation because you maybe need a court order to do something there's like no fast turnaround to fix it um even if you waited for a board meeting it's not like the board could say oh we override this policy we literally have to go through but the fastest you could do something would be for the board to suspend two reads and make a policy change in that board meeting to then allow you know whatever remediation so I'm not saying I'm for just like giving cart blanch to everybody I just think we'd have to be really creative to come up
with a way to restrict cart blanch but not potentially create a situation where we put a child at risk because we're not able to have some sort of con I mean just the sheer volume of conversations I've become privy to in 22 years that have ultimately been connected to wild life safety issues makes me nervous about I know Adriana and I have shared a few humdingers like all the way back to her excellencia days and had had we had very restrictive policy like this we wouldn't have even found out about some children who might be looking to self harm or something like that and be able to intervene to help them so that's that's where I get nervous because you know we have situations every day where we're trying to deal with life safety issues
for kid I mean I wish it wasn't that way but it feels like there's something every day yeah and it's like at least a couple of times a month that it's something we've just never experienced before so I I could I was also why I said this is going to be a discussion obviously yeah I mean I'll pick you back on and say that I mean I'm speaking for myself here but I I wish I had time to go and and talk to I mean nine times out of 10 you're juggling four or five five different things at the same time um and um student safety is a part of all of them I I mean there's been times where you had like three or four fights and you're just trying to make sure that
everybody's safe um I mean it would and and I can tell you that the the the documentation and the paperwork that goes along with all of those investigations is it it's it's it's a lot right now um so um I I I I I'm somewhat nervous about uh like you know if you're involved in something you're like oh wait I got to go check policy to see you know what I can do and what I can't do um um that definitely would uh complicate matters even more yeah certainly I think my intention mainly was to make sure that people are aware of all these other criminal implications that exist for people that normal everyday people aren't thinking about um in the in the event that you're thinking on your fate and thinking of how to
deal with something that you're at least aware of all these other things that are surrounding the situation we I think you're absolutely correct and we've had one or two incidents things had been handled differently for those reasons just because someone didn't recognize or realize um and so probably one of the things that would be it's one of the things we've been talking about recently is like who who can we tap into to help us provide PD on that type of thing so that way when we're dealing with these things people have a better sense of you know because sometimes it's even whether you should have an investigation or not there's certain circumstances where you technically shouldn't investigate it prior to perhaps a police interrogation or something like that because of the nature of yeah so
uh leave it to whoever um I have a thought I think that without limitation thing is Tri stripping us up so what if we make that homework and so for like to our next meeting come with like well what would be limits you would want what are things that you're like I need this to be BR and that way we can kind of come to consensus with that stuff would that be okay yeah um just to knock off comments that are there do we think that we should put the like notifying the comment that I had made because I was like oh think maybe I think maybe it should be canceled out where it's like um things that we are definitely going to share is that maybe not something we want to put in because
there is the Nuance of like oh well maybe this other thing might will get shared or not my question and idea is this is there a standard I'm not asking for like a district type of Miranda warning but maybe some sort of like advisement well I think everybody could do I think the most common one is the one that Adriana described but I don't know I don't know if that's an agreement I I I don't I don't know that it's really much more formal than conversations among APS but I think it came from mandatory reporting yeah so it's like oh I'm getting into a sticky situation let me tell the kids this right right so but maybe that's if you wouldn't mind adri look at perhaps that's something that we want to integrate into here
okay so that when that when that interview occurs that that we're notifying the students of that because that would be a way to mitigate first of all we could just remove without limitation I don't know that without limitation is necessary yeah that's true um but if we also amend it to include the warning language that um Adriana just shared with us then at least even if we're not putting a restriction on what the conversation can be we're at least making the student aware of the consequences of you know some of those components of the conversation because because it is not uncommon in my experience and I'll let the folks with more AP experience than me um tell me I'm wrong if I am but it is not uncommon in my experience to have people come
to you and say I'm reporting this but I don't want you to do anything about it or I don't want you to share it with anybody and and the problem that that creates is once you know you know and certain things do require mandatory reporting or even just common sense like safety reporing so um so I think if we included that language that you know it isn't a limiter but it's at least it gives the person who's having the conversation and the person who's you know brought the concern or is being brought in because of the concern the opportunity to cons consider what the potential outcomes are yeah I knew you'd have some sort of IDE sometimes once a month just so that cha yeah all right I added it as like an assignment I'll
talk to the other people who've been doing this longer than I have and see if they have anything that this magically became just part of Craton lore but actually there's like a thing that we doing yeah yeah and it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask um Dr Laur might be a good person ask for his perspective on it because he's done plenty of things over the years yeah I think I'm the next comment as well the discipline for serious offenses and I we have been guided like or when I was getting trained as an AP that anytime we were doing a tier 2 Behavior with like delineated on that we needed to like notify the family um and and especially if it was going to get a consequence coming from Administration um which is
definitely a lot less than the serious offenses that are like outlined in the law so I was just saying I feel like we need to delineate like here's when you will be contacted by the school official here's when you'll be contacted by about a serious offense I think that um this was probably created by a VA to be pretty Bare Bones because they know that there's going to be you know District level kind of policies that will get into the types of offenses so I know for I I you know I'm quite confident that they're referring to these serious offenses under 13706 in which case you probably are going to be in one of those situations like Jay said you're probably not going to be interviewing them about yeah um a first degree or second
degree murder or sexual assault or a kidnapping or child sex trafficking or something of that nature so um or an arson even um so yeah I think I just don't yeah I was going to say I didn't know whether or not that was something that needs to be done in this or what it's hard to say because I'm not sure where the intersection is with the other policies at this point theous about too yeah so it may be something for us to Mark okay and then come back to after we finish working our way through the okay and I apologize like unfortunately I do not have an identic memory and so while I'm sure I've looked at the other policies gosh I can't recall where I've seen I'm just putting random things in bright pink
and bright pink in my brain was like there is like something we have to come back to I'm just going to put the discipline for serious offense in there and then put like an at if you can check across the policy and see is it okay to resolve some of these comments that we've covered so far just didn't want to get confused about things certainly the uh Nicole's comment about the should this be interrogation I can resolve that right okay I just and Adriana your comment up at the top include in the school interview part should that stay that stays yeah sorry that's just the homework for the title and then Katie's comment about there is discussion to be had here and then Nicole's comment about what we discussed about don't like this sounds like
kids can be interrogated should that stay I don't see that anymore oh is that only on mine think someone might have resolved it already oh maybe reload your page okay I'm sorry I just got a thing on my watch that Belinda McMahon former executive Department of Education WWE that seems to track they could have like a one of those like Mike Tyson things Sor there's more quum off um Adriana your comment we could consider adding what things are required to be sh should that stay uh yeah I have to figure out what that should look like so I just gave myself homework on that and then I and then one about we're guided to call any time I that one stays too yeah and then we're at Katie's comment of the lettered when child abuse
or abandonment of a student is alleged no that's the that's the offenses they're talking about oh there's a lot of them yeah those are serious offenses under the law his policy was like super chill like listen if you don't kill maybe you won't hear from us you armed robbery so that stays um moving down Adriana your comment should there be any difference in protocol oh I just didn't know we basically use the same thing um but like sometimes we will call about child abuse and so then they'll come and we know the full story and then other times they'll just show up and somebody told them about abuse at the house and I just wasn't sure like do we need like because we know less about the situation that they're coming in should there be
additional Stu currently we don't do that more of a wondering could you explain um okay so in the situation where they come in and you don't know they they still do all of this but we um we don't NE we don't and we don't stay in the room for DCS interviews certainly so really just we just really don't know it's just kind of like thank you for filling out our paperwork have at it um and I didn't think there was any issue with it until I started actually like really thinking about it in this moment six hours is interesting because I don't know if that's from statute it is from statute so they have six hours to within six hours they have to then notify okay so then once that six hours is up then
because I think what they don't want you to do is have the school beat the family to the PCH and oh I see so no no no so this does read correctly that that after the six hours has elaps six hours is their time that I went and looked it up and that's in um I put a comment about that I feel like they also be separate paragraphs because the first paragraph is 823 is where I found that okay which is which is in the legal yeah and so um I think the only other thing I put in there was about the exent circumstances which is in the um the says down here in my comment that says the only way that should happen without the con yes of the parent or without a court
order is for ex circumstances then I looked for a definition which is further down that one comment that has section L for the purposes of this section exent circumstances and un these few things these couple things here so there's no less intrusive alternative and prob Clause exists to believe that the child was a victim of sexual abuse or probal caus is like low but fairly high for a DCS report I feel if for like especially if they just I don't even I don't depending on the phone call or report doesn't necessarily mean there's enough information for PC I'm not saying our people need to been making that DEC decision but what I'm saying is is that to answer your question going back to your question at least have them explain like we're here today to
talk to them because we believe these are the circumstances that exist and then once they explain that to you fair enough because then you're it's on them to figure it out okay um that's a good clarification I don't know if that needs to be added in here I don't I'm gonna speak only for myself I have just been like thank you for your service I will take this and so we will add that to our practice what do they have on that paper though it's the it's the paper that we use it says like who they're here to see what their official status is and what department they're with but they don't provide details about it and obviously they have to give us like a copy of their badge um but I've never because I
was like this is a good example I've never clarified with them like oh is this the is this student a subject of the abuse are they just living with a child who's also been abused like i' I don't ask them those questions and good to know I can I will I just didn't I didn't know like yeah this was to be and that also might help you too like in in the the after the fact form of things and knowing kind of what the scenario is so that you kind of know how to work with the kids moving forward to I mean because I know it's probably scarier you think like I can't ask any questions about this but you could and they'll tell you if they don't want to answer it or they can't
answer it you know yeah um just want to do a time check it's uh 6:25 we're scheduled till 6:30 and those of you that are new um it's just a schedule time if we want to keep going we can keep going um uh uh at the end uh we were avoiding uh going and scheduling meetings out because not everybody was here um so we just need to make sure that we have time to schedule uh the next meetings however far in advance we want and then also to a schedule uh sorry to come up with a message uh because we decided at the last one to to uh share whatever we were working on with a message to the student support committee the AP meetings and and the uh uh sorry anti-racism and student support
committee and the AP meetings uh a message to share so we can keep going we can wind down um kind of done a temperature check in the past and we previously had a student on the committee which made us do hard stop times but whatever you all want to do and if you have a hard stop time then you have a hard stop time just want to be mindful of people's times and stuff and um I would like to stick as close as we can to 6:30 and I think think that I personally I'm a hard stop at s probably always so I'm okay to keep going to seven if that's people would like to do today and I can also I and we could also just finish this top paragraph and then worry about
the temporary custody and then call it references how's everybody else feel about that yeah I'm okay to say seven seven I'm okay when I saw this this morning I knew it was going to be have more than one meeting okay um so to wrap up what I this when view their Amendment it sounds like there could be a clarification of bre practice for our schools um or at least that monista um so check we're good I can go ahead and like run it to the other schools that aren't present here do we feel like it needs to be included in policy for families to know that like we would be asking information about those private matters for families to know I don't know but maybe for well yes because it in it implicates the child's
like right to not be in the custody of somebody who works for the state right even if it's temporary and so I think the idea is is that you're trying to only have people take children into temporary custody by a state actor in situations where it's absolutely NE necessary required bylaw and so if that's not a situation I think that's where you're kind of letting the parents know we're just at least going to do the B minum to verify that this isn't just some like fishing Expedition okay where they're like let's go see what so and so will tell us I'm GNA put it in the comments but we would say something like School administration um May uh is it may or sh um May uh inquire yeah inquire for the purpose of the interview
prior to um providing the are we calling them students or children and children providing the child children to the because I think another part from that statute from 23 is like the first part is there's no less intrusive alternative so let's say somebody shows up in the middle of a state test like you're going to want to be like are we sure we're pulling them right now is this the proper time you know just to allow you also to know that that's okay to set some boundaries in certain circumstances especially if they're safe right now and we can wait like an hour or two or something like that we don't need to do that yeah yeah so the should there be any difference can we resolve that and check I like to check so gives
me a sense of accomplishment if you guys could click on Investigation because there's a lot of comments there this is the sentence I'm thinking we can add you want to edit that where are we sorry I know the comments are longer than the actual one uh I don't know investigation I will already highlighted it just says School administration May inquire for the purpose of the interview prior to providings I meant prior to providing the child children to the authorities yeah that sounds good kind makes me laugh about providing the children to be I know oh relinquish is better I know provid Focus [Laughter] facilitating uh prior to the facilitation of the interview yeah sure or prior to them taking the child into temporary custody because that's what we're talking about clarify for this for me
when I am like here's a conference room to speak to the child I do not believe that to be temporary custody sounds it is temporary custody because they are alone in a room with a state actor who's been dictating their movements and speaking and all that okay tell me again you said prior to then I asked my question prior to prior to the prior to the prior to the trial being taken into temporary custody because certainly it doesn't have to happen in the interview room the whole thing is is like at that point the section the CH whenever you've been permitted them to be with the child they are now like not they are now now section title 8 or whatever of the ARs F in and the DCS person um has to follow certain
procedures in that room with that child and then can also take certain steps beyond that temporary custody based on what they learned from that temporary custody or during the temporary custody they could then decide to remove the child or you know do those things so yeah it's think of it like being taken into custody by a police officer right like you're not necess just because you're in handcuffs doesn't mean you're in custody um or just because you don't have handcuffs on doesn't mean you're not in custody right there's all these there's like certain things that mean you're in custody that don't necessarily mean what we think they mean I I've heard the phrase you're being detained yes yes so as long as you can always ask him I free to leave yeah is a see
a lot of videos on the internet about stuff like that if I sorry I'm getting this real M here sorry but the this question so we we've said this sentence I can ask why do you need to speak to that child let's say I don't think that it's showing any sort of like they're not the subject of the abuse or abandonment they don't have a sibling I don't know let's just say do I get to say like doesn't meet our requirements and like should that be no I think that's where you could like that's where the leeway to have a conversation about some of these things like hey is there you know so and so is in is there just any time minator can say no you cannot meet with this child I think if
they don't have like an explanation at all obviously one or if they're like you know don't seem like they have much that they're going on like oh we received this call from an anonymous person and it's like very flimsy I'm sure but I think that's going to be all at your and then you'd probably call Jay and be like what the hell is going on okay um I'm can I resolve the should there be any difference in protocol Adriana I think so yeah all right next one is Nicole what happens if student is neither neither what all right let me go find where I put that um oh there it goes it when you click on it it takes you to it um okay so I think this is under abuse or bamman is not
alleged yeah it is when I clicked on it it took me back up to all right hold on let me make sure sorry I got okay access subject okay oh yeah never mind up there so I mean would well guess now right right yeah yeah that yeah I was like oh yeah she thought the same thing yeah sounds like no if if it's neither of those things say no hold on and then we'll yeah if it's like the neighbor kid he doesn't live with the subject he's not the sibling then yeah so we get to check another one because I think that's where it's because it's the Child Safety is not in question then that should be more I think more of a parental decision rather than school not just in relation to child I'm
yeah so I can check yep it I'm excited all right uh next one is Katie's comment the only way this should happen this kind of goes into um wait is this under yeah yeah so I guess I think what I addressed here is addressed perfectly I think what how everything's worded now so we can resolve that resolv all right uh next one is my comment actually um and it's uh the phrase there shall be requested the child protective services worker peace officer shall be requested to establish proper identify and this is just more of a procedural thing because we we don't get these often but we do get them every once in a while and we've always operated on the assumption that they they do need to fill out that form for Signature of interviewing
and occasionally uh we'll get somebody who gives us a hard time and we have to call uh Jay or Eric or somebody about guidance um because some of them will outright refuse it's happened twice off and we said well without yeah it's happened twice and joy she's like get out they they like one of them was pretty belligerent about it like I was arguing with Andy and everything it was it was a big deal um so I guess my my question is my question is this and I like I said this kind of gives me the impression that it's optional well the show is that you have we definitely have to request that you do this it's not a May it's a show so but it says requested maybe I'm splitting here shall be required
is kind of what you're say that was what I was thinking I think didn't correct that and check it off yay right I'm Gonna Change do I have to can I just do did I just change it change it yeah doesn't have to be in some other little color or anything okay shall be required check all right uh next one is Katie's comment the sixh hour requirement oh yeah that was just me EXP exping for anyone who thought it was weird when I first read it I was like what in the world and then basically the way that the um like I said again it's so that you don't get to call the family before they have a chance to or before the time period elapses that they're required to contact the family by Statute
either DCS or the police so check on that not there as an explanation yeah we can check that I mean the thought I had is like what if the parent shows up it's already dismissal and we had that can't say anything it's really awkward yeah but it's a legal requirement yeah I wonder if I'm sorry it's just a wondering but like if that person who now has the it's CPS or whatever has like ever gives like a card and be like all right if the parent comes looking for their kid usually they're like they're like so we got this don't worry they like will do all those things but they will tell us like I guess you kind of have to ask but like if you ask like okay what how will the parents know
or like are you going to go to a house visit they will usually tell us that um so next one is Katie's many issues with this section oops how do you I accidentally cck the check more I guess there's no more can you undo it we can go to the save document we can see the changes oh under history version will those still have isn't that GNA bring back everything though well we could go to just the very last your original comments you should have them in your there's a comment history at the top right of the Google Doc oh and you can reopen and resolve comment there's a comment history it's right where the little Clocky thing is by the um where's the where's the the comment history box to show all comments little
icons no you're three lines OHV I not wow it's like no I don't never mind I don't want just hanging out like ghost let me just go back to it and then I can tell you again what my issue it's this one what does it say the further it's further defined to your L for the purpose of no no no it was the next comment that was like the only way that should happen no many issues with the section because that one oh yeah this is it many issues with the section because of what the law does not require parents we got it there we go okay so abuse or abandonment is not alleged right so we're talking about a situation where DCS is not going to be involved right um potentially uh potentially criminal
things could be a foot but potentially not right so like it could be either one I think there's two buckets here um but the first one obviously this very first section is no issue of student population safety is presented and so for me in this very first section that's where I'm kind of saying like if no issue of students population is of concern then I think we need to be as communicative as possible with the family and parents about these situations especially if it's to do with criminal activity for for sure but there is no part of the statute that requires that and so this would be like a cultural thing for our district I I don't know if this is exactly what it is but this is one we have in their files we
have it's not called media release but it is part of that there is like a directory of consent and an interview thing and so um in those situations the parents have already decided like whether we could interview we checked that if they didn't check that then we go to the next part that says well did they check that we could give directory information um and then when let's say they checked off yeah can talk to my kid then the police officer has to fill out the form that they would like to talk to the student we take the form and call the parent and get permission um and then uh if we can't get a hold of them that they just like can't do it so I think we have try like there is a
step by step what we can do and then the profile if they don't give a they don't allow us to do permission but they do allow us to give directory information we get profile sheet so the police officer can go like see the kid at the house and then if they said even that they can't do then we can only like confirm the student goes to our school that without a war that's great um is there some way to not I don't we need to do they need to get in the weeds but maybe something to reference that parents have refer to this form that you filled out or whatever do we I don't know what we we ultimately want to do this exhibits I we could exhibit yeah and then just say like that
procedures will be followed according to the the way you filled out the way parents have filled out for or however you want to word that all right why don't I I'm gonna homework it I'll bring you those the forms and then we can see and I can just do like a quick paragraph Okay so bring I know it's on the med release Eric's always like it's Med release and I was like I know but that's what it's in my brain couple years ago we put like all three of those yeah yeah [Music] release so that is not a checked resolved but you can check M yeah the next one the Nicole's do we have to allow officers to interview students is that resolved do you have to allow officers to interview students absolutely not that's
the answer to the question no one has to ever be no one the police don't have a right to anybody you have an absolute right to never speak to the police about anything ever and you shouldn't even if you think you're smart um especially if you think you're smart yes but the individual student doesn't have to Advocate that the school can do that on behalf of do it on behalf of the student um and obviously the parent well but the student can as well so like everybody has a role in that at whatever point in this situation like for sure their parent could have checked all this and you could allow them in the room and then the student could still say they don't want to talk to them and that's the end of it
right but the student just has to know that and most times the student doesn't another thing if you scroll down a little bit which we I know we haven't gotten there yet but this red part or the statues that I statutes that I kind of put it in the sections of this one Statute in there um like parent this parent consent thing I think that's where the language could probably change regarding the like form you know because we obviously have a system for that but um I'm hearing in that process that somebody from the school if if it gets to that point would then advise them hey there's a cop here to talk to your kid blah blah blah however I think there's an element to the statute that um that I would want to
make sure that like they that the parent also understands the juvenile's Miranda rights rather than just saying hey can this police officer talk to your kid um because without that knowledge I think that there could be like giving like unknowing or like not sorry it's not involuntary but a i my brain is not working right now A knowing involuntary like waver I guess is what I'm trying to say like like an implicit W yeah because they don't know if they don't know it exists but they're like sure I don't care but they don't know that this they have never heard Miranda warnings or juvenile moranda warnings then maybe they would maybe they would change their mind if they knew that existed and they've heard it right so I think that's where I was kind of
trying to get into like whoever is doing the advising of the parent I feel like at some point the parent needs to know that their child has has a right to not speak to the officer because anything their child can say to that officer could be used against them in a criminal prosecution in like make it idea if we just had like a back to that form that had the list of Miranda rights just had like School official that addressed this and we just signed then it that would be easy enough like oh yeah let me tell you these things how do you feel about yeah let me get and then let me let me just get you because the juvenile mirandes are a little bit different because I I think that would be easy
enough because they typically parents have a lot of questions anyways so and you were looking at integrate right K not keep the letter numbering oh yeah yeah I just kind of put it in there to be like hey this is what the statute says taken into consideration when we're looking at these sections that like the I think this policy was written to be like more permissive right than the statute that statute seems to have more protection and so I was like this is kind of strange because it's usually the opposite so um I'll look up those an example of juvenile Miranda warnings and then I can put that throw that in in there somewhere too are we okay to resolve this comment uh what was the comment do we have to allow officers to interview
students from Nicole I think that's a good way to a thing to clarify for sure yeah wait where we talk oh I was oh yeah I was wondering so no we don't have to do you feel comfortable just knowing as your own personal knowledge or do you think if you would like that to be something that we put in here um I think I'd like to see it in there okay um so something something like the only thing that the school would have to ever comply with is an a written arrest warrant that's signed by a judge or a written search warrant that's signed by the judge anything aside from something that's signed by a judge saying this person needs to be arrested or this place needs to be searched you don't have to do
anything because it's not like they're not going to come here and direct you on business that's going on at the school right you're not in like a crime scene or in a place where they can tell you what to do so okay so could it be as simple as like right below unless these circumstances exist the parent will be contacted and be asked if they wish the student to be interviewed at any time I that should write down at any time the student parent and responding School official and [Music] decline an interview [Music] request unless it's that really last thing you just said unless it's a unless unless there's a warrant yeah unless there a warrant for the students arrest unless a warrant is presented yeah because it could also be a war for so
yeah so I just I'm replying to you now you guys on with that sentence and see how you'd like to change it yes an easier oh okay okay there we go okay cool you want to check it off James so we'll resolve it yeah all right okay um and uh it's uh 649 is right now so I kind of feel like we're at a good like resting place um if we could uh uh the two things we need to do is come up with the message and uh future calendar Out Future meetings so I guess the what do we want to do first we should probably do the meetings first right so um we had only scheduled the next one um and uh typically if I remember correctly we had uh tried to come up
with uh on average uh two meetings per month I think is what we were talking about um so I figure we can schedule out till at least the end of the quarter and then go from there everybody okay with that I imagine we'll schedule that pretty quick for the holidays so great so we essentially have like just two right in December because this is our second one in November right yeah even if two even works in December theoretically we could do the 17th because the only board meeting is on I would be late again for the one on the 17th because I have the same in me on the 17th you all seem to be doing fine without me not a shop with stale Bagles the the third is my other son's birthday yesterday was
uh one just turned 11 yesterday and this one's turning 13 on the 3D um I was going to ask Hilda or Jay when do I get sworn inan check because sometimes if they give us the O office we can do it on December 10 um if not then you know you would have to go down TOA or we can you know we need to have the O office to be able to swear you in and that's boting Watson's office first meeting in January is January 14 about needs to happen before then what about December 5th sorry I'm there's two different conversations going on yeah something on decemberth is December 5th a possibility for people I'm just looking at Tuesdays and Thursdays there's another event that's scheduled on that's a Monday um I I am busy
on December 2nd you know I just realized or remember to that whole well actually December 2nd would work for me yeah I've got my nephew that week but not till Tuesday there's December 4th I would just have a c stop at 5:30 but you guys 5:30 oh like a 30 minute I I have to be some place prior to 6 o' okay so you guys okay with the fourth I have aop at like 5:30 as well because I have an appointment but I also it's a Wednesday so it's a short day at most schools so I could I could come earlier we could do that we could start earlier so I could come yeah I mean I I wouldn't be able to because I that week uh starting on the 3 I have my nephew
um so I'll be picking him up in Tempe and bringing him back and having an extra kid at the house um but I could I mean you don't need me for Quorum but I could probably could you come submit notes or maybe log on or something be online we like started a little bit earlier could you come in like when you came no well yeah he does have early release Wednesday I don't know he's got like I'll have to check cuz he might have some like last time I had him he had like after school activity so I had to pick them up at three and my other kids get out at 320 you don't with the 12 and 17 work for everything I can I'm so sorry I cannot so the second I have
a training that I'm posting the 12th I have my the 17th I am doing something my family night okay and Christmas afternoon by final College try the 9th and 16th would be backtack month I can do the ninth I can do both actually I can do both oh but we oh look at that the ninth and the 16th go J Man exactly so but that means I don't go do whatever that oath of office is on the 10th what well you still oath of office you don't you technically don't take your seat till January okay so you're fine I think unless told other you won't take your seat till January but okay the January meeting okay so you're fine for both the nth and the 16th even if the oath of office is on the
to okay and Hilda will send out calendar invites for December 9th and the 16th too um so the last piece is the message to share to APS and oh I'm sorry did I I think it's homework for the next meeting so purpose for the next meeting we got to get down too oh right okay um I know I I've got two homework things I know you've got a homework thing we made a very general homework like what do you think should be limitations for interviews you can kind of come with your like scenarios or ideas and then we're at a bit of a dilemma we could do no homework or if you think that we could read through search on our own and start commenting if you guys want to I think you and I
should touch base maybe next the JK I think they kind our homework is on on the jih and what else like complete this and then bring your thoughts or concerns about uh limitations that are needed or should be Broad in terms of student interviews I was Ching the I remember that it was through the other Poli oh I put it did you put it in the notes already well I just put a comment but I and then it's gonna email you but I actually can't remember either sorry so you can see my dilemma yeah I'm gonna say I'm just gonna put C comments covering interviews yeah uh do we want to like we have like interview HS in the other do we want sorry I'm so sorry no it's okay for the for the for
our internal yeah like if we're doing tier two Behavior stuff like do we have is it covered okay s so that's a jih do we want to look ahead Beyond jih because we have literally a week between one ahead between 9th and 16th do we want to like think ahead and say G and then the next next one or do we anticipate jih to take up the length and the 16th vote so as far as that goes the only other thing was um you know you had my other homework from previously was to look at those two policies JK and JK yeah to say whether or not they were repetitive but I do need to have a with J before I so maybe we could just pick another policy yeah I think we had brought
up J yeah I was gonna say the student concerns complaints J what if we just do a comment through like we skip the like get the comments from you first and everybody just read through it and give their General thoughts okay what is that J ji yeah student concerns complaints and grievances okay so we got uh homework on jih and start looking at ji okay uh message to share I have the anti-racism committee you were right I I got it tomorrow I got three nights till s uh 6:30 um so I didn't get an opportunity to share that like this group was together so what I'm assuming we would share is just like the these two policies that we're planning on working on and then the other the other things that are going to be
considered is that okay say it again now I just feel like I'm G tell them we got a group together we're gonna meet this often this is what we want to focus on in terms of policy and we did really good on last year's policy last the January board okay okay good at it good yes um oh and then I will you do my would you just text me to remind me that we want to tell everybody about like questioning the DCS people and then I'll put it in the principal chat make get that know this I also the coair of that's our organization and they've presented a lot of bills on the um from the Republic clus where they are very much like they hate DCS and they want to be able to like
um take their children out of DCs custody and so they've been presenting all these bills that are very interesting um yeah all right anything else okay can I get a motion to adjourn please motion to adjourn second I second that motion all those in favor all those in favor okay motion passes meeting adjourned thanks guys oh seven o'clock on the DOT
