e e e continued issue we are having at our schools I appreciate the solutions based approach and for them um to be willing to spend their personal time to be part of this solution I appreciate Mr Man dedicating time to prioritizing this problem and putting time and resources to find a solution to the problem so um you know we don't know anything about it we can't um do anything about it and and I'm not happy that we're having this issue but I'm happy that we are working now together as parents and staff to try and find a solution um and then I'm also going to read what I read last week about uh read better be better because um my audio was not turned on we didn't have audio for the first part of the

meeting and I just wanted to make sure which is unintentional I'm quite sure um just a technical issue but I think it's important that our community understands some of the challenges we face with budget and resources when it comes to partnering with Community Partners you know we can't do everything um and and it's you know big decisions on who we do partner with because of the the resources um and budget constraints that we have so recently I learned that we did not renew our contract with read better be better which I believe has been a great partner they have um been at almost all of our schools since the pandemic most recently offering a 90-minute after school program two times per week for Kinder and first grade and for second and third grade they have

older student leaders from the same campus reading to the younger grades they've also partnered with us on some summer school offerings I know we're losing Esser funds so we can no no longer pay for it that way however read better be better is able to fundraise for this program a lot of other districts are in the same boat I also know we're concerned that maybe we're not seeing results with this program now this is challenging read better B brother better says districts all over the are all over the place on what benchmarks they are using but read better be better does have hard data showing that this program is making a difference although they have only been with us since the pandemic um read better be better has been using the same tool Dibbles and

days testing for a decade so they have a decade of data showing that the reader kids the read better be better kids are outperforming the third grade control group of kids also one of the challenges is that there may not always be the right kids in the program because families opt in um we may not be capturing all the students who could benefit I know another challenge is having lost some of the coaching staff as sometimes they were the leaz on for this program when discussing with Mr Man he had a great idea that if there's a way to get it back maybe the reading interventionist could be involved I know that read better be better does not want to be a burden on schools and they are really eager to work hard so that

their program is not creating more work for Craton staff so I really want us to be careful here as we look at this through an sofg lens we we may not be seeing results yet in our standardized test results but our kids are benefiting from this this is reading comprehension it's certainly one of our goals we know that a lot of our students are not being read to at home for variety of reasons and that's very a very important part of learning to read I hate to take this opportunity from them I know that Mr man's going to reach out to the CEO and see if some solutions can be found I also know that we're trying to lessen the amount of programs and systems that are not efficient or necessary anymore and that is

important work and it's good work um there's a lot of redundancy in the system um and I appreciate Mr Man working hard to get this cleaned up um and we are facing budgetary challenges but I think this would be a heartbreaking opportunity to lose and it is worth making sure we take a second look finally read better be better provides their literacy kits to their readers in Spanish and English with tools to help parents with reading at home even if they're only monolingual Spanish speakers at home they also offer Community Family literacy fairs that we could do at the Family Resource Center these are bilingual as well so this is something we could be doing now while while we don't have the program thank you thank you Miss MC cheffrey Miss SS thank you everyone

for being here tonight um I just want to say I really enjoyed U Community Council um last when was it Thursday last Thursday it seems like we've been together a lot lately um and we were together on Saturday which um also went together it went very well and then we were together again last night um LK is a beautiful school I was so excited to uh be there last night and finally get to tour it um and I'm really excited for the kids and uh thanks to the staff and everybody that made that possible last night um I wish it hadn't have been like 2 million degrees but um we made through I think everybody's done with a heat so thank you thank you Miss SS Miss Gibson mle um first I just want to

say that I appreciate anytime community members come and and share opinions concerns facts um anything that's going on I um was obviously troubled to hear some of the things and many of the things that we heard at the last meeting and I'm hearing updates on what's being followed through would like to continue to hear those and I'm hoping to get my conversations going on behind the scenes um I'm certainly accessible in many ways even when I'm not physically accessible a lot of the time so um I I'm just looking forward to frequent and adequate updates regarding the situations that we've um heard about additionally um we currently still have an advisory committee meeting uh scheduled for October 17th um of course we'll provide any information um if if that has to change uh one of

our uh most valued and important Comm uh committee members we lost uh him this past week Mr Alan hirs and I just want to you know give my condolences to his family I I doubt they're watching the Schoolboard meeting but also his friends in this District um I got to know Allan just working on the committee with him and I thought he was a really talented guy funny um really fun to be around a pleasure and super knowledgeable and competent and an expert in his area of expertise which is in special ed and we really couldn't have done a lot of the work we did on on policy work without him um and so he'll definitely be missed I I can't imagine you know what friends and family are going through and so I'm really

sorry and I hope that you're able to find some comfort in each other and your memories of Allan at this time so um just really appreciative of all the work that he helped us with and all of the service that he gave to our district to our kids to our families and our community so thank you thank you Miss Gibson mlan um just a cute uh quick updates yes with what she's saying I share the same sentiment and I'm still sorry for everything that everyone's going through I know it's a hard process and it's especially the way that we found out so I'm sending all my love and we are big Believers in mental health in this district and if anybody needs resources time time whatever it is that you guys need um I'm sure

that our administrators and everybody understands um how coping looks for different people um I'm also really excited yesterday for the Red Ribbon cutting it was an amazing time and it was beautiful to see larc C Kennedy's um kids grandkids family members there um we decided you know when the school was getting rebuilt there was a conversation about renaming the school people get excited and they want to rename everything and do all these things and I will say um you know we as a governing board decided to do a little bit of research on who Larry C Kennedy was and he was a beautiful amazing individual in a gem in our district um you know he had a purple heart he fought in World War II and he dedicated his time to being an educator instead

of continuing that and not only that but we got to hear Yesterday how much he loved outdoor spaces and back in the 1940s when he taught and was the principal before it was larcy Kennedy when it was LaFayette that was one the strongholds that he believed in this community to have Gardens to have these things so to actually sit on this board and get to know the his history and then talk about what an outdoor space learning school it just brought everything a little bit together and it was just a heart warming um moment how everything's just the Synergy and everything worked out together yesterday that was so amazing um obviously Community Council I'm so appreciative that the community shows up to these meetings and we work hand inand to hear their concerns back and

forth and then Saturday we had a um about a six- hour study session in this room and we were talking about our progress monitoring that you guys will get to see today and it's really exciting because we finally have data we have understanding of the tools that are being used to track the data and I can't wait for you guys to see the meeting today um and lastly I know that um I always love seeing parents and students here and I'm just hope it's for the right reasons and if you guys do come and speak to us even though we can't directly respond just know that we are listening and there's other ways that we can show how we listen and support so thank you with that we turn it over to 3B which is

the superintendent report thank you very much Madam president um kind of would would like to start by building off of uh your comments and uh Miss giip some McLean's comment um it it was very very unexpected when we found out that Mr hirs um had passed away um not not yesterday but a week ago Monday and so um it was like the type of situation you'd never want to have have happened fairly young person and so it really was pretty shocking and he was very much not only a big part of our Special Education team he was a big part of our team in general um really one of those people that would always step into the breach when there was a need um particularly if that need had to do with a children's or

child's needs not being met um and I you know had the opportunity to chat with him on everything from 504 needs that students had to you know things that the special education department needed in order to their roles more effectively um and he just was always very student focused on the committee um that Mr mlan referenced You Know Not only was he really one of the workhorses of that team um but he he freequently brought us back to the student lens so we we even had a student on the committee and you know very often it was Allen who would prompt the student for their opinion because he was already seeing it know through the impact that it would have on kids and um and he really had a desire for the things that we

did in this District to to be structured around restorative practices and not be punitive so um I that spirit will live on in the work that we do um I can't imagine um we we had an opportunity today unfortunately there were some technical challenges but his his funeral service was today um in Nevada and so um we were trying to stream it to watch it and it's a little choppy but um there was one thing that was shared at that service that I kind of like to share this evening which was that um even even though he's no longer with us um he really lives on in the impact that he's had on each of us and I I truly believe that to be true because um one of the things that they said is

you know every once in a while you'll think oh this Situation's occurring what would Allen have given as his advice and I think the advice he's given over the years really um will continue to act as a true north guidance for us as we um continue to work not only on the policy work but as we work to try to improve things for the student in our district so um the other um thing from the Kennedy ribbon cutting um I you're right it was like an insane temperature out there and um you know one of the things I've learned to spending three hours at a you know 111 plus degrees in a wool suit is not like the ideal circumstance to have so I missed a bunch of people that I really wanted to give

some credit to on that meeting but there's one in particular that I'd like to call out at tonight's board meeting because um shant Shantel cornette was actually the person who donated the slab for the basketball court the sport court that we were all on for the ribbon cutting and um there's a number of reasons why that's a really important thing um we were at that at the school doing a tour with kids Congress um last Friday and one of the things I shared with the kids was that they literally were standing on top of science happening at their school because in inside that slab there are a number of sensors the the reason that Miss cornette was able to donate the slab is she's working on her doctoral distributation on the curing of concrete in

Arizona because there is absolutely no research related to concrete curing in Arizona and for years we've been using um the Texas standards even though we don't live in Texas and um one of the things she shared with me at the ribbon cutting is that one of her hopes is there is a possibility based on this data coming back that moving forward construction firms will be able to use less Steel in their concrete slab design which actually would help with the sustainability of construction and and building you know within our state so there's you know the school has a sustainability Focus the science that's happening their lens itself towards sustainability and we are very fortunate she's not only a Community member and operates a business within our community but she is a PhD student um there

are not a lot of women Engineers there are not particularly not a lot lot of women uh phds in engineering which she will soon be and she um has been kind enough to also offer to us to be willing to come to our schools to speak to our students and of course one of the things we've talked about a lot is in all areas breaking glass ceilings whether those glass ceilings are based on you know gender or race or um any other you know particular area where somebody might be held back from being able to achieve their full potential so um I want to make sure I gave her shout out because I just think that's so aligned both with the values of the board and the community and aligned with the philosophy of Kennedy

School and that's all I have to share this evening thank you so much for that all right that brings us to for a um our student outcomes Focus governance update time frame for goal one and two measures superintendent guard ra two intr measur measures and progress monitoring calendar and goal one progress monitoring report um I'm going to go ahead and give a little overview so in Fall of 2023 cron School District adopted a student outcomes focused governance sofg framework to ensure to focus on improving student outcomes the um and then we have an infographic that is shared online it's attached or we can get copies uh the sofg framework is based on the idea that student outcomes don't change until adult behaviors change using sofg the kraton school district school board aims to create conditions

that support improving student outcomes the sofg framework is structured around six research and for competencies which is vision and goals monitoring and accountability unity and Trust guard rails communication and collaboration and continuous Improvement we have adopted goals with which is five goals we have them posted up here and that's a little infographic of information and we also have board guard rails um for ourselves and we have superintendent guard um today we're going to be talking about some of those guard rails and a progress monitoring and I just share with you guys a little bit of what that actually means um what is goal monitoring so we have our goals too often in public education leaders do not pay attention to what's working and what's not working the result can be a revolving door of initiatives

programs Cil B silver bullets that drain resources frustrate staff and fail students breaking the cycle requires having clearly agreed upon data a predictable Cadence of reviewing the data to see what's working and what's not working and the expectation that this information impacts what happens next this is the purpose of monitoring how is goal monitoring beneficial we lead by example what happens in the boardroom is more likely to be echoed in the classroom board Behavior sets the culture for an institution if board members want a culture where teachers are open and reflect in their craft they set the stage for that by demonstrating what it looks like for the board and superintendent to be open and refect and effective grounded in student outcomes data and there the craft as well we clarify strategies we communicate Expectations

by investing at least 50% of the board's time which is one of our board guard rails that ever since we adopted this we wouldn't spend less than 50% of our time speaking on student outcomes um each month into monitoring progress toward the vision the board makes clear with the priorities of the entire organization are expected to be this is a powerful tool for creating organizational alignment and with that being said I'm going to go ahead and turn it over to Dr dupin so we can go ahead and get started on our progress monitoring um one of the main things for Progress monitoring when we get it is that we're supposed to as governing board members be asking questions in advance and I failed to do that so I apologize I know that was expected of

me to do and I did not do it in this busy week so I I'm apologizing that for that now sorry and and Madam pres can I can I just ask a quick favor yeah um so we we actually have several things in in this agenda item that require action um and I don't want to be accused of gaming the system but um I think it's kind of important that before we move to the progress monitoring um that the board make determinations about whether you want to approve the time frame adjustments for goals one and two remember we talked about it on last Saturday about how those were originally set to January but then now in our deeper understanding we recognize that they really should be set to I think June Dr dupin May set

to May are you referring to the monitoring calendar um the monitoring calendar is actually correct it's actually in our um student outcomes Focus um oh goal interim measures so there's an interim measure for each of the four goals and this one yeah that we had originally set to a January 25 date thinking well we need to look at that January 25 data because like it's going to be an indicator of how the fourth quarter data looks but what we realized was the way that that measure should actually be structured in talking with Dr Ramos is it should be set to that fourth quarter so it really should have that may date on it um and part of my reason for wanting the board to decide whether they want to accept that change or not first

as I know like for our measuring of the board's progress um the clock starts ticking once we've approved the final interim measure for superintendent guardrail 2 in the progress monitoring calendar so I'm being a little bit I don't know if it works or not but I'm trying to be protective of the board that they don't lose credit for having already corrected all that stuff before the clock starts ticking so yeah so I see those changes it's just in the two it's like the interim measures 1.1 2.1 yeah 3.1 and for yeah and for a and 4 B it's just changing it until May instead of January because May is when school's over and that's kind of like the explanation of it is when we'll get all the end of the data in May yeah yeah

we'll still be reporting quarterly correct right we're going to be looking so we looked at pre for for goal one as an example we're in the progress monitoring report we're going to look at today that we talked about on Sat Saturday we're going to be looking at goal one and we'll look at it again you know after we have the Benchmark one and again after Benchmark two it's just it'll be after that final Benchmark that we'll look to see whether we've hit that goal number um and so I think what the board would would typically do here if that's acceptable would be to um make a mo make a motion to accept the time frame adjustments for measures to goals and I I listed it as goals one and two it we discovered later it's

actually an all four goal so um the motion would be best to be for goals one through four inter measures for goals one through four y okay do we have any questions or which document is it it's the one that's titled sofg goals and interim measures I think it's the last attachment okay it's the last attachment yeah any questions wait but that's not the one that's up there right yeah it is see the little yellow um in May I know it's really small but like if you look at 1.1 that's the thing that's being changed the ones that we had adopted on the last board meeting said January of 2025 sorry I'm just clarifying for people watching oh yeah it's the same document entitled sorry there's two titled documents there's one called proposed interim measures

and one's called in we're looking at the goals or the guard rails and interim we're looking at the goals not we're looking at sofg goals SG goals and interim measures yes document that pulls up off of board docks for the agenda is not what's up there you have to scroll down it's the last yeah you have to scroll like okay the very last I just want to make sure we're I was like that is not what that looks like when you pull it up okay so what ex so now sorry now that because the whole time I was like I am completely lost right now all right now I know I'm on the right document thank you so much all right I move the governing board approve change is to oops I lost my place

to goal number one measure the inter measure 1.1 goal number two in measure 2.1 goal number three interim measure 3.1 goal number four interm measure 4. a and 4 pointb to reflect May of 2025 second all those in favor I I perfect and I believe there was one more thing we needed to approve to continue so so the next thing would be the guardrail 2 interim measures would be sort of the next piece that would be up because we tabled them last meeting um because there was a consideration of replacing one of those interim measures with an equity based interim measure and in reflection not only on the conversation um the information shared to us with some of the parents that came to share concerns with us um and some of the work that you

know we've been working on in order to try to get measures in place to address those concerns we felt that it would be ideal um to reflect equity in that particular guard rail through um efforts to um put in place some anti-racist training for staff in the district and so that so we basically um retained the originally proposed interim measure 2.1 but replaced interim measure 2.2 with a guardrail that was focused on getting those anti-racist trainings in place so guardrails are basically conditions that the superintendent cannot operate um guardrail number two reads the superintendent will not cause or allow conditions practices or procedures that are inequitable or insufficient for students because of the issues we've been having in the district and the feedback that we've been hearing from community members our administrators went back and

they did an interim goal and now it reads the district's access equity and inclusion work will focus on anti-racist practices increasing from zero standard di District trainings for staff as of June 2024 to one District provided training by June 2025 um focusing on anti-racist work work is it's it has to be intentional and we're moving a whole system in a ho so for for me personally moving from zero anti-racist um trainings that we've had to I I had an issue with just being one but I talked it out through the cabinet and and I understand and for now I believe that having one by June of 2025 I mean 2024 is almost gone I felt okay with that and within there there's so many other things that that can happen with the anti-racist work but

it is one step forward to fixing a bigger issue that we have I had the same concern so maybe um and I know we already talked about it but maybe just for transparency and the community sake you could kind of explain that Jay yeah I would be very happy to um you know one of the conversations we had is we one of the places we want that to live is in our new teacher orientation so one of the conversations around having two was well we should have it new teacher orientation as well the problem is this goal is time bound or I'm sorry this inter measure is time bound through the end of the current school year so we will you know we won't have another new teacher orientation until next year and so it

may very well be as we continue to do this work we maintain an interim measure with the same Focus but we increase the number of trainings that we're um focused on for a given year um the other thing that I think sometimes people don't realize is you know as much as we would like to move more quickly to do certain things within the district we're also Bound by certain procurement laws so to to do the systemwide training that we need to do even to do it for a single School puts us into cost areas where we're required to go through procurement process in order to select who is performing that for us and we also want to make sure that whoever we're choosing that the focus that they're putting on it and the type of

work that they're bringing to us is actually aligned with the values of our community that it's targeting the specific types of issues that we're dealing with um and that it um comes to us at a high enough level of quality that it truly has an impact on the situation that's at hand and so I know um there have been three different for in particular for the training that we're looking for there have been three different individuals who have been recommended to us and we're actually doing interviews with two of those individuals this uh coming Friday was the soonest that they were available and are currently working to get um scheduled in with with that third individual but and it may be that we don't even look at one it may be multiple and it may

be that we manag to do more than one trainings this year but just rolling up on fall break and knowing the procurement components and all of that um to to get this implemented throughout all of our schools with all of those other component pieces that have to be put in place as a single aspect of a multipronged approach to solving some of the issues that that we're seeing throughout our district um it we would be setting ourselves up but we' just be putting a goal in place for the purpose of not achieving it because we there's only so much we can do within the time frame that we have and just one clarifying thing when it comes to procurement because before I got on the board I got really confused with what that meant and

procurement doesn't mean that we we don't have the dollars or we don't want to spend x amount on dollars on something it is very important but we are legally bound when certain amounts go up a certain amount there's a whole added on of things that have to do by statutary law so I just want to clarify that the procument has nothing to do with oh that's too expensive we don't want to do it it's not that it's not that at all is that there actual certain you know list of vendors and paperwork and all these things that the law makes us do which I I just want to clarify that because I never wanted to make it seem like oh they're saying that they don't want to spend x amount of dollars on this but

they spend it on something else and that's not what's happening here when it comes to procurement yeah and it's it's fairly unique to government Al entities and ironically even though the charter school system in our state is supposedly a public school system they have to follow those same rules that we do so I just want to say thank you Mr Man from for that explanation because um I had the same issue and when we talked about it oneon-one it was you just repeated what I'm sure you said with everyone yeah and it helps to understand um because one doesn't sound like very impactful at the moment but it is a system lift which is not easy um and have had a lot of equity training I'd say the last four years and um it's obviously

not doing what we want it to do so we want to make sure we get it right this time or at least improve greatly upon it so yeah um so I appreciate that yeah no we we want it targeted and um actually in our executive team meeting today we're working on restructuring committees for this year and that was another area where we said look instead of having a committee that's working just broadly on Equity work we need that committee to work on some of the anti-racism things that need to happen in our district um in addition to that we've had some conversations around that committee could help us with some of the curricular needs around anti-racism again the procurement has all these laws around it that we have to stick to curriculum is even like

well beyond that so um we want to make sure that we want to do what we can with haste because we want to make certain that we're solving problems as quickly as we can but we want to do it in a way that we know it's going to stick and it's going to stay with us so the two things we don't want to do is do it ineffectually and we don't want to do it in a way that it triggers something where we haven't followed all the rules and regulations and laws and someone who for whatever reason doesn't believe that anti-racism is an important thing can come back against us and cause us to have to remove it from our system because this district has in the past had programs where they have been removed

from the district because certain people felt that they shouldn't be here um as have a number of districts throughout the state over the year so we just want to make sure we are 100% you know absolutely in the clean and in the clear but at the same time moving as quickly as possible um to get Solutions into place another comment on that too one thing we talked about um was that you know do we have this in policy you know because really haven't and so I learned that the conduct um committee has created a policy um and it we just haven't adopted yet or gotten to that part but that's a that's a Improvement on in the system as well so yeah that that work was done last year and and that's the work that

that team's looking to complete and I will be honest with you um again not to just keep giving him a shout out because he was an amazing person but a lot of the work on the the the piece around hate speech and some of the components that would be considered anti-racist in our in our conduct policies you probably recall this a lot of that work was spearheaded by Ellen H so do we have any other questions or comments regarding the specific guardrail andm measure I was just GNA quickly tail off um of the what you not ended on but right before that in terms of um I think it collectively as a board and I you know I could speak for myself but from my from my thoughts uh and how we've discussed things in

meetings and move forward is that given what barriers we could potentially run into legally speaking in this state regarding anti-racist trainings um I think we are prepared as a board to have um our administrators backs and our District's backs in I think any good lawyer and I'm Not tooting my own horn can figure out a way to do things within the law and get around things cuz if you've been to the Sausage Factory where they're written you can figure out how to get around them okay so what I'm trying to say is is that we've got y'all's backs and we're we are very intentional in this and are ready to back you 100% in whatever way um we're able to get to where we need to be with this is what I'm trying to communicate

I know I'm speaking for myself but I know I'm probably speaking for all of us so and then that is appreciated I mean that does embolden at the same time we want to make sure we're dotting our eyes and crossing our teeth so that and we have the we do have the expertise we have the right people in the district to make sure that we're both able to do what we need to do sufficiently aggressively to achieve the goals that we have and at the same time do it in a way that it's bulletproof so that way it's not a problem Downstream I'm also not for us going out and lighting our cash on fire and no parking lot so I'm good with that too duly noted yeah I'm just really appreciative of this work

and um one thing that I've understood since I used to be a community organizer so you know done all that for many years and it's very different when you're on a side where you can actually make policy change and actually do things and fighting these systems within this side is very tough but the good thing that we do have is that we have good board members that are support our administrators and we're working really hand onand and holding that front as you guys can tell with our dual language program you know there's a lot of stuff going out there but we we hold down the far on the we hold down the line and anything for our students um we want our students to feel empowered and there's this term that gets thrown around a

lot that says oh our students should feel safe and our schools to me it goes beyond that because safe being safe and I always share this it leads up to complicity it's like I'm safe I'm going to sit here I'm going to be quiet and I'm just going to not do anything I want our students to be feel Brave and empowered and that means that they get to speak out when they do feel that something incorrect is happening to them because of adult behaviors in an institution so that's the space that we're trying to create and I know that with creating this guardrail it's putting system it's putting pressure on the system whether who whoever's here or not and that's why eventually these will turn into policies and I'm so excited that our policies are

getting rev revamped because this will be embedded so when we're not here Dr when superintendent man is out you know relaxing or Dr dupin Dr Lauren everybody this will be embedded in the district and this is what the the culture and what we're going to hold the district accountable for it isn't all for nothing I won't keep coming back to when are we getting these in policy I can't can't just get them erased cor all right do we have any other questions or comments regarding this specific interam guard rail okay we do have a public comment on this specific um so before I make a motion and because it is the agenda item I'm going to have Paige Butler come up and speak please um want three minutes yeah three minutes is perfect hello thank

you I'm Paige Butler I'm a parent of a first grader at Belmore prep and I'm very excited to see this guardrail in place so thank you for listening thank you for hearing us thank you for adding this it's very helpful to see that there's actual timelines action measurable progress being made um we have a request for consideration that a parent is involved in the selection of the vendor or the trainer for this guard rail as you said superintendent man we want to make sure that this is responsive to the needs of our community and we would really like a parent voice in The Selection and thank you so much for that and I know you spoke to the agenda item and that's a really good idea um I'm going to deflect it over to our

superintendent our cabinet you don't have to answer right now maybe we can have a one-on-one conversation but I would love to see how that would look like because yeah I I do I do want to share and one of the reasons that we're trying to move quickly to talk to the different people is um there is a meeting scheduled um at builtmore for October 21st that is a a community conversation around race and um Dr dupin and myself will be there and and part of the reason that we're having that is we we want to get input from the families um and we're hoping I can't promise this because you never know how time's going to flow but we're hoping we're going to have enough information about the potential trainer options that we have to

be able to integrate that into that conversation on the 21st so we may be bringing that on that day or it may be that um we gather the information on that day but we haven't been able to sort of get through some of the other procurement Hoops um but we absolutely there's no reason why we can't involve um a parent in in part of the conversation so it there are portions of procurement and I don't want to commit to anything on procurement without checking with our procurement expert in the district office there are portions that are sometimes you know depending on how the procurement is done um that are very much tied to things like pricing and whatnot so that we don't always have the complete freedom to choose exactly the product or the person

that we we want um but of course the focus will be on getting the right person and having parent input into that I think is absolutely critical so I appreciate the comments if that information isn't available by October 21st is there still the capacity after that date when that information is at the point that it's ready to make that involvement happen yeah absolutely we we don't want the dialogue to just like end at a point because the reality is this problem's been identified people have been kind enough to come forward and share their concerns with us we want to make it a conversation with them so we like I said earlier we're solving the right problem but then it's it's not a it's not a well we threw a wrench at it and now we

did our part and we're just going to walk away like we need to continue to have conversations because this is this is not a problem that happened overnight um and it's not a problem that's sort of a single point of problem like this obviously the school and our district wants to be part of the solution but there's more to the issue than just what happens at the school site so I mean to me this is a long-term commitment and and it's something that we will need to continue to work on over time and if we don't continue to have a conversation with our families we really won't know whether we're making the right impact or not so th those conversations need to be continuous um and having the families have some voice into what that

what those programmatic elements are are very important and in point of fact um one of the things I'd really like to do haven't had a chance to talk to Dr dupin yet so hopefully he won't um be too angry with me but you know on that committee that that we're putting together it'd be really nice to have some parent voice on that committee as well so I think that would be highly valuable um so if when I have I have a saying um when people are willing to step up and help you you say yes because like that is such a rare thing in in modern society and I have served in this District as um the chair of or as a member of so many committees where sometimes I thought I was talking to

myself because we only had like three people in the room um because we just couldn't get people interested um this is an issue clearly that our community is dedicated to to Bringing resolutions around and if that means that that causes people to be interested and engaged to be part of the solution then of course we want to engage them to be part of that solution so it actually helps us we do better work when we all work together um I don't know who I stole the saying from it came to me from one of my mentors who used to work in the kraton school district Dr Tim ham who was the superintendent in Madison when I started there um and he had a saying and I just stole it and I've used it forever which

is none of us is as smart as all of us so and I've always used that in our committee work because I truly believe the more people we bring to the table the better the solutions that that we deliver and that we arrive at thank you and thank you for that public comment do we have any other questions or comments regarding this since we didn't adopt the guard rails for the int measures last meeting I'm just going to make a blanket motion to accept all the int measures for all the guard rails because we are good with the new addition of the anti- rasist guard rail so I move the governing board approve student outcomes Focus governance superintendent God rails and interm measures second all those in favor I I I perfect so the next

one would be the progress monitoring calendar because if I understood Dr Ramos correctly on Saturday he said once we adopt that that's when the clock starts ticking and then we kicks pardon my expression we kick some butt and go right to progress yeah we're not competitive or anything thing but we want to be the best so um do we have this um are we able I'm sorry yeah we can project it we if we can just project the monitoring calendar um one of the things that got added on here was the School site councils that we're supposed to have so part of this sofg framework is two-way communication from the governing board directly to the community so in this calendar um we have five different goals we have specific goals on third grade literacy then

we have our El students which I call our multi mul linguals because we all all of us are learning English so anyways um our multilinguals and if there's a specific goal or guard rail like this anti-racist one that you that certain people have a better want to know more about with this calendar now you'll be able to see around what times in the months we'll be having these conversations since there's so much going on um it will also let you know in the months that we'll be having our community council meetings and also when the governing board will be going into the community whether that's through cafesito paring connections I'm not sure how that's going to look like yet but when we're going to be going out to the community and giving them the um

the information of how our progress monitoring is going and what we're doing since not everybody can come to board meetings as governing board members it is our job to make sure that the community knows what's going on with their students that's that's one of the the main reasons that is the main reason why we're here so do we have any questions or comments concerns around this also note that in October hello first of the month there's a board self- evaluation um one of the things that we have not done as a governing board is that we hold superintendents we hold teachers administrators to a certain evaluation process so we have we're going to start evaluating ourselves as governing board members too and setting that example to hold ourselves accountable to the community and therefore um

hopefully that accountability piece starts working in progress so this month our the next board meeting we will be doing our first board self- evaluation um so if anybody's interested in that to see how we're doing as governing board members join us um but other than that do we have any other questions or comments regarding these states or site cancel meetings I guess um this isn't really related to the calendar but um the site School like Council meetings how will we determine like who's going to those when those are happening we can talk a little bit um in depth more in those um basically just showing availability for the months no more than two board members at a time can go so we would have to take turns on who can I understand there's sometimes schedule

conflicts so if Community Council me um meetings work better for other board members because they're available in the evening and you know other board members that have flexibility in the morning it just depends but it has to be two at a time all times and this is a five-year calendar so one of the things um in working with President CIO that we decided to do was just pick the two the two pairs of months where that work's being done because it happens twice a year and not specify the schools because leaving that flexibility in place allows for you know us to determine well when are what's when are the board members availability and then align it with the availability at the school sites and I also want to give kudos to um president Kio because

one of the things she asked me for was um sort of our testing calendar so that way she wasn't loading it into our heavy testing months that all you know while all that's going on the board showing up at the schools to have these two-way conversations so any other questions or comments Miss K yes so Dr Ramos told me on Saturday that to have copies for you guys in case you guys don't have your little spiral bound book anymore because that has this yeah that has the self evaluation in here so there's thank you you can gra one and pass I have one already all right since we have no other questions or comments around this and this is pretty flexible too like we said this is a fiveyear because we're planning everything out in

five years since our goals are five years it could be changed a little bit we can always bring it back if something doesn't work out if we start you know however it works it's not set in stone the beautiful thing about this framework is that we can always come back and re adjust and amend what we need to to to better meet the needs of our community and our students so since we do not have any more questions I'm going to go ahead and make the motion I move the cron School District governing board approve student outcomes Focus governance progress monitoring calendar second all those in favor yay that means that the real time begins our clock starts ticking today with the data and seeing how we're pivoting and moving the needle for our students

and with that I will now turn it over to Dr dupin so we can start our conversation or our progress monitoring thank you president kuo members of the board please dulge me for just a moment while I get connected to the screen and while Dr dupin's doing that I know president CIO mentioned this earlier but just for those of you who may not be aware of this that are either watching us online or or with us here this evening um the board received training last Saturday we had a study session and as part of that training one of the things we did was a first pass through this progress monitoring report so what you see this evening may be a somewhat shortened version of this process but we will be bringing go two report one

to the October 15th meeting and so that will probably be a longer conversation um when we bring that because that will be our first time looking at that particular progress report thank you superintendent man as a reminder the governing board has established four student outcomes focused governance goals the first is to decrease minimal Proficiency in math for all eighth graders the second is to increase math proficiency for black eighth graders the third goal is to increase English proficiency for emerging multilinguals and the fourth goal is increasing reading proficiency for all third grade students tonight our progress monitoring report focuses on goal one and we have established annual targets for all of these goals and the annual Target for 2025 is as follows the percent of e8th grade students that score minimally proficient on aasa math

will decrease from 77% in August 2024 to 71% by August 2025 so tonight we'll discuss current measure 1.1 which utilizes data from our DNA math benchmark marking system and Inter and Inter measure 1.2 which also uses DNA math assessment data but focuses on our fifth graders so like to drive I'm sorry Dr dup and just real quick two clarifying questions can you please let us know what DNA is real fast and if you can let us know like in a short version why we're seeing a lower trajectory and why the numbers are going down versus going up just a quick explanation so we have some understanding please thank you for the questions president CIO DNA stands for data and assessments it is our benchmarking system based on Arizona State Standards so it's an assessment that

our students take basically on a quarterly basis there's a pre-assessment at the beginning of the year they just finished taking interim Benchmark one today they'll take interim Benchmark 2 at the end of December right before winter break and then they'll take the post test at the end of the year and this assessment monitors progress within the year on a Year's worth of learning on the State academic standards thank you and then excellent question regarding the trajectory of the graph so this goal focuses on decreasing minimal proficiency and so typically when in e e for
