001Art's really important for school because it allows for kind of a creative place where you can put in your your creative your creativity and and what you enjoy. I think it's really good for conveying emotions and kind of showing people new experiences. >> Art is an expression of my inner thoughts. >> You can express yourself or you can show what you like. >> You can express what you're feeling, what you want, what you need. >> An outlet for my emotions and different things I'm passionate about. Art runs much deeper than what is perceived by the general population. The value behind what we do in the classroom is students are figuring out who they are and who they will become. They are self-reflecting. A key component of Faget County Public Schools portrait of a graduate which
002requires students to be reflective and resilient. A huge project that we undertook last semester was the mythos experience. The mythos experience is a reflection project requiring students to think deeply about where they have been, where they are now, where they are going, and what inspires them. The Mythos experience is a passion project of Seth Tusca. >> I was challenged by an art director to create an exhibit about healing using my father's works and philosophy. And that's how Mythos was was born. I'll call it a a passion. It's a family thing, but it's about my father who taught at the University of Kentucky for 35 years. And when it became clear that the life was coming to an end, I I asked what he wanted me to do with all of this, share my life as
003an educator. Whenever I was approached by Seth about presenting the Mythos experience in the classroom, I thought it was the perfect combination of art and finding out who students truly are and where they are in life. >> This time I spent with him for 20 months, I learned that what he had to offer was not just the process and technique, but his true understanding of wanting to make his students better through what they experience. These works behind me demonstrate how students are articulating who they are. This is representative of what the arts do in the educational system. The Mythos project allowed me to really think about like myself like and my place in the world. I really got to look at like the things that I was stressed about and the things like how I
004saw myself. This art project gave me time to reflect about my entire life and the people and experiences I've had that have shaped that. I believe art is for every student. >> The reality is if if you're not well inside, doesn't matter what you're being taught, you're going to be overcome by that. I want to feel that what I'm offering can't do anything but enrich them and the and the school system. The well-being of our students in Fyet County is far more important than any technical thing you could teach them.
