001Good evening. Welcome to Transy University. This is Todd Chamberlain. I'm the one of the band directors of Morton Middle School. And on behalf of myself and Brian Angel, our other band director, like to welcome you to our spring concert. And we are here for a very special event this evening. The Morton Middle School Sophonic Band is going to be doing the world premiere of a new piece commissioned from composer Tyler Grant uh called Legacy of the Land. And this has been a multi-year process for us. Uh we started a few years ago with the idea that we wanted to create a new piece for band commissioned specifically for our group. And so we thought and Mr. Angel and I there's a very special piece of music that relates to Morton Middle School. A gentleman named
002Claire Gruntman was a composer and he was the band director at Morton Middle School in Lexington Junior High School back in the 1930s and he wrote a piece called Kentucky 1800 which was very special to us as young band students. We wanted the modern version of that, something that's going to hook these kids on playing and love what they're doing. And so what you're going to see tonight is a piece based on the promised land and going through variations of that. But to tie it into it, uh, you're almost going to see a picture of Kentucky in doing that. Something that's so special to all of us. And so we're excited to premiere for you Legacy the Land, our commission piece by the Morton Middle School Symphonic Band. Hope you enjoy. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat
