001a new member we I figur we could just go around and briefly introduce ourselves and yeah say hi so want start with me or start let's let's start with you well let's start with you guys and then I'll go through my little my nose all right uh so I'm James Diaz uh the assistant principal of Gateway School and uh I'm the committee chair for this particular committee GNA go this way this way let's go this way I'll go I'm Megan Brin oh sorry I'm Megan br I am the e8th grade math teacher at William T Mack uh my name is Danny Lopez I am a middle school social studies teacher at kateway I Ames and I go to monist sorry what was your name Adam V Adam okay I'm Adrian aaka I'm the principal at

002monista I'm Alan hir I'm the um special education coordinator for the district and I'm the vice chair for the committee okay great oh yeah if you wanted to go last so I wasn't trying to steal the mic um no it's okay so there there's two ex officio members of the committee and it's Katie Gibson mlan who's one of our governing board members who's on her way she'll be here any minute and then me Jay man who's the superintendent for the district great thank you oh that's loud um I'm really excited to be here so thank you for asking me to be on this committee Jay um because I think it's super important this work I'm sure everybody feels the same um so I went I've went over um tried to tried to watch all the

003past uh YouTubes on double time so everybody sounded like a little chipmunk but I tried to get through as much as I could so I could be caught up um look through the policies and the proposed changes that were given and and I also um had the opportunity to speak to a few different people a couple principles a couple teachers teers and some other parents because like I said this is something that I think is really important um so I made a few notes um as far as things to kind of keep in mind as we do this work as I'm sure you guys may have already covered but I figur I just throw it in there so you guys know where I stand um you want to go tell your name just watching yeah

004and my name so my name's Nicole Marquez and I am a parent over at the kraton Academy I have three students there um first grade fourth grade and sixth grade and we've been there since the school reopened in 2020 um and I helped found the PTO the Craton Academy PTO ran that for a couple years and I'm actually now my next step is I'm G to be running for governing board come November so I'm doing doing stuff it's it's all kind of just you know one not one thing after another but one thing leads to another and so I'm happy that you know it's led me here and my main attention for even starting the PTO I was like well I got a little one I've got nine years at the school what can I

005do to you know to give back to do something so so here I am um so as far as in regards to um student conduct and discipline policy stuff um things that I wanted to keep in mind um that I think is important and this is based on the feedback I got from people I've spoken with and you know my own thoughts so keeping in mind our audience um this is something that students Kate through eight are going to have to be able to understand as well as the parents and Community because ultimately we get you know parents and staff members you know this is something that is their that they work under as well um so it should be written to um let's see sorry I want to look at my notes and make

006sure I'm reading it right um so yeah so should be because I I I remember at one of the one of the YouTubes I had heard someone had mentioned mentioned something and maybe I Mis misinterpreted it but that this should be written only like for students um but in my mind it it should be written to outline conduct and Safeguard entitlements for all district people so volunteers teachers you know custodians you know everybody can be affected by student conduct um and then the next thing to keep in mind aside from audience was transparency and consistency ac across all School District or all all of our district schools so from some of the folks I've talked to it's like well it's different here than it is there and why is that so if like a teacher

007goes from one school to another it could be completely different than what they were accustomed to um or if a student switches schools Etc so um and then um another thing that had been brought up was that some things are not necessarily being reported so I don't know if we'll at some point get the data as far as what some of the conduct and behavior issues have been been um but that you know that perhaps does what's in Synergy and what's been reported might not actually be reflective of what's actually happening um and so I think that's something that I'm not sure how that works with this policy but it I think it it's important that all um teachers and admin are reporting this stuff whether you know but from what I understand it sometimes

008it might not be due to I don't know Financial issues but um so that's uh you know going falling under transparency and con consistency I think the policy should should make sure that that's clear too for for those who have to report this stuff um the next thing is uh language and word smithing so to me one thing that I um I did some youtubing and you know saw some TED talks and researched what I could and one thing that stuck out was that you know a lot of times School the metaphor used for school is school is a prison and I want to make sure that as we're writing this that we take out any of the language that would be like in relation to prison like whether it has to be like locked

009up locked down kick out um sorry I should have put more lists of those words but so um so just keeping that in mind and and you know my personal thought I think a great it would be great to view this through the lens of like let's use the metaphor schools are a garden so we're nurturing we're planting we're we're growing um and um also in regards to language and and how we're writing this is make sure it translates to all development levels so it's not so so so if a an eighth grader is reading it they can understand it if a parent is reading it to their kindergartner they can understand it if we've got kids who are special needs or if we've got parents who are special needs it's they can understand it

010as well um so make sure that it it translates to all development levels also the next thing um again with language and word smithing was I and I'm not sure how this plays in because it it's kind of falls under safety but also that in this policy that it helps ensure that our kids our students and our staff and people that it ensures physical emotional and psychological safety um because you know bullying isn't always physical it can be psychological and that could be really damaging so um I think when regards to conduct that's important to keep in mind all right so I'm about halfway there guys um next thing when we're writing about repercussions so instead of writing in you know we'll be suspended or authorities you know police must be called um writing in

011as much as we can like interventions referring our kids to resources as opposed to law officials or criminalizing them so for instance if we got a 12-year-old who's coming to school high it's because there's an issue that kid needs help they don't need to be arrested and again like I'm trying to avoid this school to prison pipeline you know unfortunately that's there you go another metaphor um but you know I I think through policy we can we can break that all right um and then also in regards to repercussions how should they play in at each level because a kindergartener you know in an eighth grader there's there's a different level of understanding and if even if they did the same wrong thing it's needs to be you know the there's a different level I

012think of of repercussions that need to fall into that all right so and then also keeping in mind that you know whatever we do that it is in line in alignment with our District vision and Mission which are you know they're very clear and they're very important and so again our policies need to fall under that so then then the last few things so this is these are more like questions and things to look into further um so um after speaking to one of the principles you know there so as I understand it there's another there or there's other committees working on discipline and behavior okay cool and just you know making sure you know how does our work affect their how do they intersect and keeping in mind I don't know how how that

013would play out um but that we're not working against each other doing something that eventually they're going to have to change or whatever um student handbooks so that's something that came up um and from from what I had gathered the feedback I had gotten they might not they're not the same across each school um or are well I think that was that was a question let's go through all your question have some thoughts to help share but yeah let let's figure cool yeah and I can maybe share this if you wanted to see the questions so um handbooks are they in alignment with policy how should they differ from policy are they consistent across all district schools and should they be and are they easy for all levels to understand and then my last point

014was data collecting da data be nice to get a three-year Trend pattern and you know what are some of the common violations and and how do we see that playing out so and that's all thank you for hearing me out on that and if you have any questions or whatever [Music] clarifications just briefly I feel like you kind of gave a little bit of a summary of what we've been doing throughout the year as well too and some of the things that have been on our minds which you'll see uh reflected in some of the conversation that we had today moving forward and um I feel like I don't want to speak for everybody but I feel like the work that we've been doing and we continue to do is very much in alignment with

015some of the things that you're you're talking about they just kind of I was like oh yeah we did that we did that we did that that kind of thing so it definitely has become a conversation piece um and um if you feel like it's not then definitely please bring it to the group um because uh I feel like that that that's a real important process that goes along with it so I I do want to honor process to make sure that U that she has a chance to go and you're our last person to just introduce yourself and we're doing like a reintroduction thing introduce yourself in your role hi I'm Katie Gibson mlan I'm on the school board and I'm just an ex official member of the committee and so I'm just here

016to um give advice I don't vote on the committee also here to give non-legal advice advice that's sounding um anything else I just think to follow up with what you were saying to clarify for you and and I have something for the agenda um in terms of the in terms can we okay perfect so we're on number two though the approval of agenda we're moving to number two which is the approval of agenda uh please take a look at the agenda and uh this is an action item so if you have a motion to approve or modify the agenda um as presented please make sure that you do so I'd like to um yeah that's one we're on G to be on today um I'd like to actually modify the agenda if possible and wanted

017to just add I I think maybe five or 10 minutes um to talk about the like interdependence of the four committees and just kind of an update slash thought that we wanted to like bring to you all um so just wanted to see if we could kind of table about 10 minutes earlier to add just like let's talk about the different committies so I believe that is covered in agenda item number four if you look down towards the bottom there yep I just am saying I I we haven't actually talked about the other committees before and so like I just want to say can we make sure that that happens so that's fine if it's in four but I do have something for that part when we get there are you okay with the being

018an agenda item four because this is a an approval or to modify that's fine if we want to leave it there okay uh anyone else want to modify the agenda um yeah I'd like to move item five U to occur before item four so we don't accidentally run out of time to schedule our future meetings because otherwise we have no future meetings I what's do can I get a second get a second or do I just go ahead yes well well are there any is anybody else want oh well that's just part and then you would approve the agenda as as amended so um I move that the uh committee approve the agenda with um the amendment of moving item five to occur before item four I second all those in favor motion passes so

019we're going to be moving item number five to before four to before four basically we talk uh next agenda item is a call to the audience it's a procedural item to uh go and see uh if there are public comments or anything that we need to be aware of okay com do we need to give him a mic just my name is Beth Strano from TCA um just want to add the comment that as a parent um definitely want to hear how policies are being set based around databased discipline policies that are uh Equitable my name is astrono I'm daughter of besto I go to TCA I'm an eighth grader I want to address that um certain teachers don't follow the procedures as other teachers do and it's very uncommon to see like every teacher

020following the same procedure so it's like not set in like a rule book okay okay uh moving on to uh the what is now the meeting schedule schedule um I in the past uh when we scheduled meetings uh we tried to go for at least uh one a month and I'm um curious also what other things that we need to take into consideration um things and I'm I'm mostly concerned about uh uh things that are related I'm assuming at some point we have to give some sort of presentation or something to the board so uh those are things that I'm thinking of uh as that is kind of flowing in your mind um I have a group scheduling thing it's a I I was going to share it with people to go and schedule your

021meetings it's sort of like a group scheduler Alla doodle but I think it's a lot more easier to use so uh if it's just I believe we were like at every other week at a certain point just because I think we had discussed like the work is not going to get done if we're only meeting once a month so you would say let's try for TW twice I would I would support doing it on the off weeks of the board meetings so if the board meeting is on week one of a month we do this on week two right so that we do twice a month yeah and I think that's what we were shooting for just at the end or the last end part it was just because of the holidays that we weren't

022meeting every other week but there was a point where we were meeting every other week okay are we find and again I'm not a me member of the committee I'm just putting that out there given what we're what y'all are tasked with and what I'm it's already January 16th you know there's some time we got to work with here so should do we need a group scheduler then or we just like saying know keep the same Tuesday I think I think we know it's um I think the two weeks is fine the group scheduler might be helpful though just because we there were times where it was like oh this Tuesday won't work for me and I can do five but this person can't do it till 5:30 that week instead of Tuesday yeah so

023I think we do need that but I think the parameter we definitely agreed on is twice twice a month basically okay so if you wanted to use I don't know if the Scher works for that I will say in my experience organizing things like this I think it is easier to set a set consistent time that allows people for in the future to sort of plan around it like if I'm making a doctor's appointment I know in six weeks on Tuesday at five o'clock I'm going to be busy rather than if we're using a group scheduler we're gonna have to probably schedule it on the fly every two weeks which is going to be this is h a group scheduler that goes out to May yeah but people won't know their availability so unless we

024have the same consistent time meeting people when when scheduling other things out to may they might not know win like they have the same control over their stuff right I think maybe J you correct me if I'm wrong and you correct me if I'm wrong what I'm hearing um from you Mr Diaz is that um that this scheduler you're going to send it out and then you would maybe set all of the meetings out at once once you get all the information gaed mrz I'm hearing maybe you were thinking it would get set like as we go that's what I was thinking I think um James's way makes much more sense but I still think just picking a set time and like I don't know I'm doing a May so I'm gonna say whatever day

025in May is fine right I know in May it's Tuesday that means next week so I to interrupt I'm just going to interrupt sorry I think what if we did this what if we do like the every two and you do in the schedule but then moving forward we do continue to keep the approval of the schedule and then everybody will just need to confirm that like the next two meetings are available to do um I I'll speak just for myself um I don't actually have a lot of control over my calendar in terms of like sometimes things just come up that I have that I have to move forward to so if we kind of give ourselves that like we're going to consistently do this but if there's like another District thing or something

026that comes up that way we at least make sure that we have quorum if things come up for people that work you're wanting like flexibility as we go just do your two weeks and then let's con still confirm at each meeting that the next two meetings that have been planned we're going to have enough people come to yeah yeah I am writing down for you Mr Diaz it sounds like the group scheduler is not necessary 16 April 16th right right had some that on Thursday do we want to stick with the same uh like every Tuesday that is not a board meeting day for right now yeah and then is five still work for everybody so um just I'm putting wrenches in it but like February 13th um our school has our AP meetings so

027like that probably one where I would need to stay for our site our site night family night so we would just need to like I I think no matter what we're gonna have to check each time that we meet if the next one's going to work and if we have to adjust but I think Tuesdays every other at five should work just to be clear Jay we had there had been when we created this did we say May 7th the First Ward meeting in May to do the presentation there's a prior 11th is the community council then there's a board meeting on the 16th then we would have time to meet then y'all would have time to meet again before the presentation to the board so okay so and then May 7th is this presentation

028okay so I just wrote all these down for you Mr Diaz they're all the board meeting dates yep so that no there a problem yeah Noe that's good so I'm guessing off the top of my head here that we're scheduling through February and then just letting it play out well we're in the conversation I mean we could do it the way we could do it right now the way Brian did it before was just kind of we just ran through it and scheduled them all out and with him we did it through the end of the year or through this date y so we could just do it through because it's not that many dates that we'll have to set really kind of look at it like for instance the 30th works for me the

02913th though I have that site thing so I don't know where everybody else's schedule is but could Thursday work for people if not I mean I don't have to be there as long as we have Quorum but um does the 30th work for everybody in this room yes yes that work for Adam okay I mean the only thing is is like we're literally getting back from a trip that day so that works for me you are I will not be yeah I'm getting back on the 30th so yeah I mean that's the date that the plane ticket was purchased right Oh I thought that was when everybody was coming back cool maybe I'm just going to relax um I'm not going to be upset about it all right well I can just come here from

030my house we'll see how upset my husband is about it um after being alone with the children for 5 days um okay so the 30th works for everyone I may or may not be here all right so then you said you have a conflict on the 13th yeah does anyone else have a conflict with the 13th is anyone available on is everyone available on the 15th that week no I have an after school program I help out with so I guess I guess if we did five yeah I'd be available at five on the 15th yeah does that work for everybody okay all right so the 30th and then the 15th of February the 20 February 27th comes next and I'm available 27th does that not work for anyone I prefer not cuz I have

031a meeting that day from 4:00 to 5:30 M the 29th I could do the 29th it's a leap here Anybody Everybody available on the 29th I am available on the 29th same okay do we need to schedule more than three meetings out let's just keep going all right we're almost there all right March 12th that's the weird thing right because we have a meeting yes well that's spring break when is your all spring break that was the next question the week of the 12 the okay so we couldn't we're not going to meet that week so then and then there's a board meeting the 5th and then the 26th so we could meet the week of the 18th so the 19th does that work for everybody I can do the 19th yep sweet and then

032April 2nd nope I gotta do Thursday that week April 4th does that work for everybody yep yes okay and then the following week on the 11th is the community Council if everyone wants to make note of that where we would be presenting you all would be you all will be presenting your recommendations initial recommendations at the community council Thursday April 11th okay okay so then the board has a meeting on the 16th but you're not you wouldn't be presenting anything on the 16th you would be meeting then sometime between April 11th and the board meeting on the 7th whether one or two times you need need to meet depending on so let's call it the 23rd okay so 23rd is everyone available on the 23rd of April yep and then you can determine on the

03323rd If you still have additional work to do the following week before you present so at least on the 7th you know is the presentation date to the board meeting at on the 7th could we placehold um the 25th maybe just because presentation wise it' probably hard to come back a week later but if we could have two meetings on there like the 23rd and the 25th there's no meeting here oh okay oh there is oh I have it on the 30th is the meeting it's on the seventh oh is that wrong okay yeah I always yeah I would wish I could I would prefer the 30th yeah I think that' be better to have once a week instead of twice in a week okay in between okay so 23rd and the 30th and then

034the board meetings on the 7th and the 30th should be optional pending work needed yes okay done yay and then we we were presenting the seventh so you said change that so just to recap we have January 30th February 15th February 29th March 19th April 4th April 23rd and April 30th do that sound right and really if you look at this the work days are only one two three four five meetings left of actual work so keep that in mind when we're having these like when we're on uh agenda item number five down what number five okay but also why it's more important that we have this Google Drive set up in between meetings now so thank you again okay thank you all right uh so that is the meeting schedule then we're moving on

035to the next thing which is the item number what the next item which is the discussion on policies and specifically the part that Adriana talked about with is to discuss the plan for collaboration and sharing with other disciplined CSD committees too I don't know if you guys want to start with that first or if you want to start with the policies first we were kind of partway through um I believe jir um but we can start with the first part if you would prefer to do that um I think we should do committee before talk anything about policy agreed I can talk about meet and confer if someone else unless someone else wants to go first I guess before we spend a ton of time on that and eat away at the actual policy time

036I just want to make sure that like not like everything we're doing I understand understand things are going to in like interplay with each other and like whatever ends up being proposed and adopted by the board then those the other committees are going to have to then change accordingly right and so while you may be doing work and trying to fill each other in as we go there's no way to guarantee what's going to be adopted by the board like you could present something and the board would adopt 75% of it right like so I'm just trying to make sure everybody is aware of that possibility right not saying because I'm only one vote right I can try the best I can um and I'm sure that they'll respect everything but all I'm saying is

037is like there's only so much planning we can do and try to like communicate with the other committees because at the end of the day the variable is what the board adopts from this committee is going to control what all the other committees do at the end of the day I was I was just going to explain the the limits I guess of me confer and like what that was so people everyw sorry really quick can I clarify I think because I think think the mean confer and like what that role is that might be better for the end when I was talking about the Committees it's very specific to like the committee impact to this meeting so if the meeting confer is like a general overview of me confer maybe we do that at

038the end unless so me meet confer is talking about Behavior policy tomorrow and so meet and confer is going to result in a negotiated agreement between the union and the board so whatever we agree on should become board policy so it won't conflict with an existing board policy so that's my whole thing is that whatever we do here me and confer might add to in some way shape or form but it will not um disrupt or otherwise be inconsistent with whatever we do here vote going to be for the meeting with the board typically it's um either the second meeting of February first meeting of March I I just have a question uh my understanding with the collaboration with other committees to inform our work was the discipline one for the APS and then there

039was an internal one just to kind of inform our work I wasn't thinking that and I don't know but I wasn't thinking that this committee would inform meet and confer no what I'm saying is that meet and confer has nothing to inform like we should not consider like that's what because people have asked me a bunch of times is how's me confer goingon to affect this thing and what I'm saying is what I'm saying is it won't okay gotcha yeah and I know I was curious because like I said after some conversations finding out there is a committee working on and what it seems like is like specifically like if you you know student does A and B then this is what's going to happen um so yeah and so I just wasn't sure I

040just like to know okay what are the ones working on it and what are they tasked with compared to what we're tasked with yeah and I think it kind of goes back to the question that you had asked earlier about um I think that's okay um about what like the different roles are and how the governing board policy um so there there are like three committees there's the APS and I I'm G to give you like my estimation and you guys jump in assistant principles so the assistant principles they currently are tasked with working to find out like um like kind of like the nitty-gritty of like what we've been what you had mentioned it was like a violation and immediate consequence they're working on like the procedures of like how like what the range

041would be and like the consistency would be for the group our group is kind of doing like the big domains of things and so a lot of the stuff you said like James said we have in here like we talk about emotional safety and we're working to build that um the other thing that we were that that I was going to bring up is um we have talked about restorative practices and like interventions like you were saying and so we had talked in our leadership council meeting about possibly seeing if the two committees that are working on um Behavior I don't know what their titles are um it's the behavor and support committee and then there's the Equity Group too so that we have like an equity team that's like supporting behaviors through like those

042types of practices and then the behavior interventionist style team and so like that work could live with them and then just to kind of piggyback off of that is essentially even though those are committees that are meeting that are made up of people who are teachers and staff that work in this District those are tasks that are delegated from Jay so Jay is where the buck stops right and so he's the one who's supposed to be essentially approving whatever those committees develop and okaying where they go at the same time our board has just adopted student outcomes focused governance and part of our guard rails are that we expect Jay when he does that is getting voices from as many people as he can and so if that committee is only made up of teachers

043and staff he's also run these proposed uh changes by like getting some feedback from students students getting feedback from parents and family and Community even if we've done that at the policy level we're still expecting that as a board to happen at this level when regulations and other um internal like procedures are developed so that there aren't things happening that feel like they're happening behind closed doors or that there's no transparency when it comes down to like the everyday interactions or the everyday um interpretations of what they believe the policy looks like in real life right those teams sorry those teams are aware of the work of this committee and they're also aware that whatever they do will be affected by the outcomes from this committee the it may sound like we're doing a lot

044of things in a redundancy but the reason the rationale behind it is and it creates some some friction and some challenges but the other option would be to wait till this committee did its work and then in August we could go ahead and start on working on trying to solve some of these other problems and for our classroom teachers I don't think you want us to take sort of that slow train methodology to try to get Solutions rolled out to support what's happening in the classroom so what this allows is for some of these solutions to be developed while the policies are being redeveloped and then anything that's pulled together from those teams will then have to be vetted against the final policy recommend commendations to make certain that they're in alignment and it's my

045understanding we have a lot of staff that works over the summer as well so I mean it's not if they're not ready to roll in May with our recommendations they still have two three months before school begins to correct adjustments that'll give them time to make those adjustments so my thought with the timeline that I when I propose this committee was to try to get us to a point where it gives the summer to try to do a lot of development yeah but th those teams also need to do things like visit other districts that have Solutions in place and during the summer they can't do that so we wanted to make sure the pre-work was out of the way during the course of the school year while those things are available yeah so long

046story short I just wanted to tell you all that it was like brought up that the aps have made some progress in their discipline I'm G to call it a matrix I'm not sure what we'd actually call it but the like here's here's what a kid did here's the range of like disciplinary consequences and then um my plan is to um bring up to the two committees that I that I'm also on if we could maybe consider start putting together like the restorative practices so that we also had kind of like a menu of options for like what we could do that would be more intervention based restorative based um for the for the admin or teachers depending on where it goes in that venue so that was just that was my only update for

047everybody I I so I'm just processing and thinking out loud I'm I I don't know if this is the right approach but I I part of me feels like this committee should just go through with its work and complete what we're doing and um because I I the other committees will pick up what we've recommended and further it according to their own so I guess in my mind I'm I'm wondering if maybe it's not necessary to collaborate I mean because in my mind I'm thinking to myself it's like well okay if there if there's a sharing of information because at first that's what I was thinking I was like let's just share information so we can see uh what the other committees are working on but I wonder if that would um unnecessarily influence the

048goals that we have for ourselves um rather than inform you know what I mean yeah and I don't I'm not saying one is right over the other I just um I'm to wonder whether or not that's a necessary thing to do so those are just my thoughts I like how I liked how Jay you summarized it I think that's helpful for me it's that here our updates or our sharing of information is the project they're going to take on that they feel comfortable knowing we'll still meet like what we're doing and then yeah we just do what we're doing and then we can make moderate adjustments so they'll be starting at 50% finished as opposed to 0% finished once we're done with our work so yeah I mean the only thing I can think of

049that would be an unintended consequence would be if one of these committees is 80% done with their work and then they see the stuff that we have and then oh crap now we got to start over and shift it or change it or dump it all together oh it just sounds like we need to develop policy faster yeah and I think it's important like especially if we are leaning towards like you know for instance like breaking the prison the the school to prison pipeline changing those metaphors like letting them know like okay well if you're coming at it with you know so and so if a student does this and this and this we're going to call the police and then maybe let them know like okay maybe that's not the direction we want to

050go um and just so so they can keep a mind when they're working on consequences that were um that were not that that were trying to avoid criminalization of our students and so that whatever consequences there are as much as possible unless there's a a law that says we must call the police that we don't call the police you know because do we want us you know have a 12-year-old go off to you know end up in juvie and out of school and all of a you know no that's so I think maybe just making sure that they're aware when they're writing their consequences in that it's intervention resources um more education or whatever needs to be and avoiding the criminalization it's always a bonus when we're all on the same page but I can

051tell you that's definitely where everybody is headed full transparency for you though just so that you just so you know like um there is a little bit of legality that comes into play no matter what and so our team prior for then prior to you joining has spoken about like um the kind of like checks that we need to do so I can give you like very simple examples if there is a certain length to the blade we're legally required to report it to the police so that would be something that we can't really pull out of policy and um because parents should know not necessarily or but like I oh sorry I was like it just has to be a knife design for lethal use let me talk for what ours is I'm saying

052what the law is I we have like a requirement to report certain things and I don't think that and whether it's in policy or not just know that like that is going to be it's GNA happen anyways I do you know what I'm saying whether it's in policy or not but I think that where I come in and I try to to help bridge this Gap is realizing that that even that right where you just saw that is like I'm always going to have the retor given what I do for a living that unless it's like there's always going to be gray area even if it seems black and white right and that leaves room even when it's scary in a mandatory reporting situation you think that your professional license online to just stop and

053like reflect before you get there to think is this meaning at all the criteria I want it to me to make this call because of how serious this is going to implicate things for a child right and the philosophical component that we've been trying to put into place is when we're in those situations and we're dealing with those gray areas working to air on the side of what's in the best interest of the child so um so I know there's there's often conversations but part of the reason there's ranges in The Matrix is to to allow for that flexibility to eror on the side of the child's best interest so I I I feel like that's a complicated issue too right I mean I'm not I'm not saying there shouldn't be flexibility but I think

054about like what happened not too long ago um with that first grade student that shot a teacher as well and uh I mean that's an extreme situation but I I I I worry about perception with stuff like that too I do feel that there needs to be options and there needs to be uh sorry I was thinking I'm not chuckling at you I was just thinking add wise I hope you don't think I was laughing no I I I just think it's a complicated thing right because to me safety also includes the teacher in the classroom not just to be clear like a firearm is really hard to like unless it's you're going to be call the cops that's a mandatory report there's no way for us to get around it okay if somebody's shooting

055somebody you're we're going to have to call the cops my was it because it is gray just know that I don't think the conversation is like anything remotely legal we just like throw out wholesale we'll have to kind of talk a little bit more about even like each portion that comes up I would also add that's the part of the importance of having these meetings be public they're streamed we can see our conversations in my personal life people are like well why don't they call the cops on this kid I I go okay how would the police solve this problem and there uh I'm not really sure and so I think that's that's a useful conversation to have both here and also with people that have those questions I think perception is a matter of

056Education secondly can we I think we need to move look at policy yeah it's we're at 40 we're we're at 50 but I was like 45 and 45 from what we talked about last time um do you guys want me to just pull up I renamed it um so it's should the one that we're working on now is let me make sure I'm on the right one committee draft committee draft one it's the J ey edits um and then we next to M handy dandy note thing I we on page three just get out of these personal things first um hopefully everyone inserting page numbers thank you so the way the way that we did this last time was that people had a moment to read through the document um add comments and then we

057went through people's comments and then we went one by one silence is compliance if you have an issue with something you need to speak up um and so I think do we want to take five to read through this so that would be Pages three through six three through yeah Pages three through six make any comments as needed to add on to what is already here and then we can move through the comments in about five minutes we already I'm a different yeah that's fine okay so just real quick I just want to make sure I'm understanding it so if it's something that's a like highlighted or in a different color that's someone's proposed amendment well we've been using the comment part take a so it's not it's not necessarily highlighted it's just a comment

058to the right anything above next meeting begins below on page three which is at the top of page was already decided last but you obviously at a later date at all right so right now we're coloring was initially this was my own personal one and so I color coded so I knew what I added so you can just ignore that are purple that was my words missing is it possible to make your um this like do the full screen so that they can see it just a little better on if you just hit the green I think oh there you go yeah it's a little bit bigger hard to see I can just make it bigger too on here for me I always just leave it like right at so there better hope Nicole are

059you familiar with the Google features and terms of like how to add the comments and things like that okay yeah she puts some at the beginning which is why I I started um like yeah you were doing the last meeting was trying to do it that's right and then I got two mixed on my phone my laptop kids like stop ruin the whole totally forgot about that what the [Music] e like one more minute that's everybody I have a timer going oh perfect thank you how how well how good was my time my time binding uh one minute 35 not not too shabby for me that's a win that's the win in my in my ability to tell time do time I'm not great with [Music] time and the answer is if anyone's wondering as

060well in case you're wondering if there's any reason to have some lar tax dollars on that you [Music] know sh that's five minutes do anybody need more time pull says J tell you what patreon yes how much more time do you think you need to call oh sorry how much you need I'm cool I just want a number [Music] and it might be helpful yeah just to kind of see how the conversation goes because there's some edits that might be throwing you off right okay whoops so sorry guys here's the work so uh one of the things that look at my for you we'll look later um so that one paragraph that okay so the very first paragraph I know Nicole you put some um like words to change and I think corrective and disciplinary

061I'm I'm open to that change the word Progressive I do I do think means something slightly different than like because when you put just you're talking about like justice right like it's a it's a fair like a fairness to it yeah and I think one [Music] one one thing that kind of helps me visualize just just versus fair so imagine if there's like three people standing there's little pony wall and they're trying to watch a baseball game the little ones can't see so it's fairness is they all have the same step stol just is where you know they have the one that's equivalent to the height they need to see if that makes sense no that does that actually and so and I think you know when I think of progressive like I mean I

062consider myself a staunch Progressive but so I think of it in like the political terms and as far as like like to me like if you go back to progressivism they wanted to get rid of corruption from government so like I'm cool with that but I'm not sure maybe I'm not feeling the same can I sh can I share the jargon words with you and just see if we fit so what you described as like the just example um in terms of like how it's been used at school it's Equitable that so when we said Equitable we meant like what it might be different but it's like appropriate to like the needs of everybody there the progressive and I don't think I added this term but I think that this was one that I I

063was pushing for um when the assistant principles are disciplining students um well actually just everybody it's a progressive discipline so in putting it there we're just saying that there would be like kind of a logical sequence into which kids were getting their punishments it won't be like a well today I feel like jumping when I explain it to kids I talk about like a staircase so we're not going to jump three steps just because we feel like it you have the right to the first step and the right to the next step and as you build on there the consequences will get bigger so that's what we mean by that got it what do you think I heard you say yeah I was gonna say a great example of progressive discipline is like if there's

064a kid that in the entire school year punches one person in the face one time they probably going to receive a different set of consequences than the kid who punches someone in the face every single day at 8:00 on the dot you know on the 10th time right the discipline progresses so that's kind of what we mean by that so that's my only concern about taking that part out right yeah and again just going back to you know just the the way some people might read is see Progressive oh left leaning like just taking it there and some like I wonder if there's word that means the same but well I was so what I'll say and and also my AR arent for keeping the word discipline in here is I think it's important that

065we're very clear because this is a really important paragraph This is saying this is what's going to happen if your kid violates one of these standards of conduct um and the word discipline I think is very clear in its meaning it means that there's going to be some kind of consequence and likely a negative consequence corrective could mean hey you know Billy don't do that right that's not necessarily disciplinary um and Progressive discipline is something that is easily googleable there's trainings on Progressive discipline from like a employee standpoint because when employees um are punished at work for something or um get disciplined at work for something there's you also have a right to Progressive discipline um so it's not I show up for work late one time I'm fired it's you are given a pink

066slip and a warning and then you know eventually whatever um I think corrective discipline and the other language that we used is very understandable even though there might be some misconceptions but if I Google Progressive discipline what comes up is not progressivism what comes up is know your rights this is what Progressive discipline is right yeah and again taking it back to to the word smithing in our audience like okay if is a parent going to you know fully understand yeah so the second paragraph that's in there they might not want to go Google it the second paragraph that's in there is actually And in regards to the comment you made that is uh in some ways my own personal musings in the conversation we all had because we thought that there is a need

067for like I think right now we've been calling it a glossery but some sort of addendum or glossery that will Define these terms and so this second paragraph isn't part of policy currently it was kind of like the first attempts for that so I think your concerns about what what do we mean by Progressive we're going to address later on so parents could be like you know if you're Conservative Republican parent and you see Progressive and it does equal democracy Or democrats to you you you'll know that you can look back and see that we're actually talking about nothing to do with politics that term like a glossery we're calling a glossery now I don't know so way to like a reference footnote if you look at the very bottom and you're more than welcome

068to add the page six I started putting the things that we had said we wanted so like for instance I can just add that um Progressive discipline um I think in policy it would be an exhibit exhibit be say I'll also add Nicole um some of the language we use here there there has to be a balance between policy language and like what I would call reader friendly language because like if I'm a teacher and something happens that I don't believe is in line with this I can file a grievance with the board so if you put oh the discipline has to be just well who decides what's just I can file a grievance the parents can file a grievance just based on a feeling of something being unjust right Progressive is very clear oh

069you did you got this first step now there's the second step now there the third step Equitable there's argument to be made there but you can demonstrate Equity you can demonstrate proportionality you can demonstrate there's some logic in the consequence it's diff it's difficult to demonstrate like justness or fairness right um yeah thank you so I am gonna I went ahead and just took that random paragraph that I had in there and put at the bottom and just wrote this is an attempt to build the glossery and like what our thoughts write one note well no you're we you're right but is there something so if everybody could I'm sorry if you could scroll all the way down the bottom is there any part in this that you would want to add that we should

070have for further discussion in terms of all of the um like comments that you brought up like do you want to add is it should we so for instance our definition of Equitable theoretically should cover your definition of just so does it feels like maybe now we need to put like what do we mean by Equitable like add that as part of the gloss terms is there anything else like that that you guys think we should put on here I would put Equitable logical Progressive and um proportionate okay because those are four very important words when it's going to come to grieving discipline issues okay and this it's gonna it's gonna come up a lot I think so I I didn't make the make a com because you were making a comment on the word

071Progressive I struggle with the word Progressive being a part of policy because it's very easy to get into the mindset of of progressive is this and this and this and this and this and it leaves no real room for for actually Equitable decision making based on a particular circumstance um I don't necessarily think that's always good I mean I think if a person is being heavy-handed I see exactly what you mean but since the word Equitable is in this policy I mean if I was a parent or even teacher I would say well I understand that this my sped student for example that doesn't have a great understanding of these policies you know this is their second offense but that doesn't NE it means that whatever is happening needs to necessarily progress from whatever their

072first consequence was but it doesn't necessarily mean that they have to follow the exact same steps as everyone else or it doesn't mean that there's a rigidity in the steps that are being followed it just means that a student can't come to school every single day and do something every single day and show up again the next day right right like it that's what the term Progressive ensures is that you don't have kids hanging out for an entire year having a behavior incident every single day because right now that is the case for a lot of students I'm not sure I I I don't want that happening either but I'm not sure that the word Progressive ensures that that's going um a a word maybe that we could use sequential so I just did a

073syn synonym search for Progressive so sequential at least in the way I'm hearing it that that that could kind of I feel like they're speaking about two different things because if if we're addressing what Daniel is saying sequential would make sense like well if this one thing happened then another thing would happen I'm hearing your concern being more about it it creates like a um in an attempt to allow people to understand that there is in fact a framework that we're going to follow we're not highlighting for people that there's enough gray within the framework that it's not going to be like this is this is this and I'm not quite sure how to resolve Daniel is saying that that that that is exhibited through the word Equitable Allan I'm hearing and I probably would

074read that so quickly that I wouldn't think of that when I just read the word Equitable that that's what that means so I think what needs to happen is a better like Equitable is there but maybe that needs to be flushed out and explained a little bit more and I because I have the same concern as Alan someone could say that the Arizona criminal sentencing scheme is is agressive and uh it is but that has no room for any kind of like budging from well you're in this step and you can't our definition of progressive here is the same as a three strikes rule yeah I well the thing is is that with our current language any consequence that is given has to be logical Equitable proportionate and Progressive which mean a three strike rule

075would not be proportionate and would not be Equitable right may be logic I I agree and that's I think those first three words are are important words I just don't Progressive I think as part of policy H to me is saying and therefore you must move to something more like it it gives the the implication that that's a part of the expectation for when I I agree that it does mean that compromise what about a compromise in that because I I feel like we're hearing two truths that I'm like oh like I don't think we can prioritize one over the other but what would it be ful if we created an exhibit I don't know if this is thinking out of the box we created an exhibit that kind of is almost like two miniature

076case studies of what these things might mean I and that way it would be like here's how all four of these worked for one student and here's how they worked in a different scenario for other students so that you could see like yep it is like I'm thinking like um our self-contained kids right like they they don't have the communication skills oftentimes to to get people people's attention in the way they should so they they do they frankly hit more if you could show like yes this child hit more and we had a family conference and then progressively the next time we had like a social story like additional lessons given to them go I think um I think this is where we're going to start seeing like the conflict between how detailed are we

077going to get in the policy versus are we going to be able to trust that the intentions of this committee and the board and what's ultimately adopted are understood by Jay and whoever is in that position in the future and that there's consistent training um to where when there is a committee like the aaps who are doing The Matrix they understand that this policy means XYZ not what yeah Allan thinks it is you know what I mean so that's where the issue is going to lie how is this going to be interpreted Jay's here Jay's hearing this Jay's not always going to be here you know 10 years down the road is they a different soup who's like forget that we're going to do what Allan's saying thinks this is you know I'm Allan I

078I hear what you're saying I think it's really important to have Progressive in there because I think I think discipline does need to be Progressive in our district I think honestly we do have a lot of kids that come come to school every single day for example and are sent to a buddy room every single class and are in in and out of ISS all year and because there's no Progressive discipline it doesn't really ever escalate well actually we do have Progressive discipline already it's already a part of policy we're supposed to be having it well well what I was going to say is that what where I think what what would address is what K's talking about because if I mean if in two years we get a new AP and they get a

079pat on the back and told go get them tiger here's the policy then yeah they're going to make mistakes and do things like that if the aps are trained in the spirit of the policy and also I think those four words logical Equitable proportional Progressive four grievable words four words that can be used to enforce this policy really well I think that you know that's a really strong com combination of words to where we can um I think you can find a balance in terms of consequences where it's like hey if something is too harsh it's probably not going to be Equitable or proportional right if something is Progressive and we progressed super harsh harshly super quickly it's probably not going to be Equitable or proportional right if there what I would Envision is that

080it allows you more movement within this Matrix that you speak of rather than this three strikes like done done done and you're done right so like that we can like you said consider mitigating factors we can consider whatever it is the existing factors are for that individual child at the time and like move throughout this this Matrix can I make a suggestion um I wonder if we tap I think that we need to just spend time with those four words because they kind of feel like they're like a Crux for us but I don't think that we've I personally have not had enough brain power and my buddy and I haven't had our team our team practice to kind of talk that through so could we table it for our next meeting and maybe like

081our call to action for us right now is to just be like on your own separate way Define for yourself what did you think we met with all of that and make sure we're on the same page and there's a common definition because that way everybody kind of has an opportunity and I was going to say I I I really support this language because I feel like those four words have a common definition established in what would like be employment law mostly because around the discipline for employees like Progressive discipline the dis discipline is portional that the discipline is logical those are things that are already standards that are used in Union work primarily to determine if an employee is being disciplined unfairly the only thing that would I think be relatively unknown to people

082would be Equitable and like what Equity means here um but like again if an employee is late to work right it's not proportional or Progressive to just say oh you're fired and similarly if a student is late to class it's not proportional or Progressive to expel them and I think that there's some there's enough I think there those three words have a very common shared definition in that field already James logical Equitable proportional and Progressive oh and Equitable Progressive and propor proportional okay um something else that just kind of just kind of struck me um one thing that I think needs to be kind of top as well and that that has that I I'm not seeing kind of figured in is like restorative justice like I think before we dive into like the the

083discipline that the you know your consequences are going to be this like no students will be offered or you know like the resources the restorative actions um so that that is what is gone to first as opposed to straight to the discipline so this is this is my comment here where originally the sentence said in conduction with any disciplinary action students have the right to a restorative experience I asked if we wanted top yep still in the same paragraph um I asked if we want to replace that to will be given a restorative experience okay and Nicole also um it is important to understand like like as a teacher restorative practices on their own do not necessarily work without also an appropriate immediate easily understood Consequence the point of the restored practices is to hopefully

084make it so longterm the student understands why what they did was not appropriate right what can they do instead of what they did right um you know what are some root causes of those feelings or those behaviors and then the immediate consequence is is for all those kids that know the thing is bad that already understand why they would do that or would not do that they don't really need the restor of experience they need an immediate usually minor consequence to just be incentivized to not do that and then in addition some consequences are important for like for example if a student gets into a big fight they might need to be suspended for a day or two not because that's like G to solve the problem but because they're they can't be in school

085the next day with everyone being oh we just watched you be fight with this kid right they need to have some time off and so I think it I think depending on what we decide the language here I think restorative like restorative experiences or restorative practices should be accompanying every single corrective or every single disciplinary action right in my opinion but I I I'd like to suggest that we hold off on determining which one we should put because my as I was listening to and just thinking about in practice they have they do have the right to it but not always would it make sense to have restorative practice so it's almost like we kind of need to think about what they're going to be so for instance um if you are like if you

086this is the struggle we have if you chew gum the first time you're going to get a consequence like you might get like a detention or something but there's really not like a harm to the Community if you're just like chewing the gum but if you're chewing the gum and you're putting it under the table harm to the community is that you've damaged our property you then have the project of like helping clean that up or a research project so I'm worried that if we go straight with the will be given we'll end up trying to create restorative projects for the sake of having a restorative experience and not something that well I think that's the logic of it I think that's really a good example because um that's like a really like clear area

087where someone is like pushing the line of what's acceptable like you could easily say oh well by like by chewing gum you've like like you have openly said I don't care about the rules you like you've disrespected all the people that have set this thing you've disrespected the maintenance staff that have asked you politely to not chew gum right that's like imagine if you're a maintenance worker you're cleaning gum off the floor and you see kids chewing gum that's the harm to the community and but that would be different like if I stick gum on the carpet my you know how I repair damage to the community might be going cleaning gum off the carpet if I'm just chewing gum it might be an apolog to the maintenance staff right like that would be something

088I think I think you legitimately could add a reflection piece and some sort of practice to pretty much every single you can you can I don't I I am in full agreement with that I just I worry that it'll become it'll become like for the sake of doing it well this is this is why I brought up when I asked the committee on the last session like hey do we understand that we're obligating a lot of Staff hours and time and training to this and the answer was yes and we should be doing that and so I think we should obligate and put the emphasis on like what will be like the most bang for your buck and I don't know I I just I just worry that like pragmatically if we say for everything

089that a CH a child's given some sort of corrective thing there will be this when that might not quite make sense and maybe the gum was a bad example but because I think I just think like especially like teachers like every time every time a kid talks out in your room are they going to do a ology so well that's a great that's well that's why I really like that word discipline is because me going hey please don't interrupt me is not discipline right that's a corrective action but like you know for example in my behavior ladder on Middle School the point in which things are documented is when I've send a kid out of my room so like we give them a warning we have a hallway conversation and if they continue the behavior

090then they get sent out of the room with a reflection sheet and then we have a conversation about it at the door like if it's at the point where there's some kind of documentation like a minor infraction or referral then that's disciplinary and there should be a restorative piece because I I'm really afraid of the the word the student has the right to a restorative action because how many students do we know are going to go I request my my restorative action I request my restorative practice I'm GNA issue my guess I have I have issue with will like I I I I don't but but my and my thought on this is if we're going to say they have a right to something should happen every time then then then it has to happen

091like it's their right to it it's not like it's not like we get to CH pick and choose when their rights are being honored that is very clearly what even in the wording that's currently there to me it's actually even stronger than the wording you suggested that's fair I just I maybe I just need to individually process I just worry that the resort resort of experiences should always be meaningful and like addressing the harm and I worry that we're going to box it into like you got to check it off the list I think if you are not prepared to put in the effort for one reason or another whether that's personally or there's not enough staff or whatever everything becomes a box checking exercise whether it's I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna push back on

092that because I don't think it's so much like the effort or the want or desire I just don't know if it's I brought up Staffing yeah I I don't because it's not that for me I it's more of the like truly in practice what experiences will kids get and will they make sense to like have well this is this is a big shift for our district because this is not happening right it like for and especially for lowlevel consequences like a great example is that you know I've been in schools where if I send a kid out for a buddy room they go with the reflection sheet depending on my cooworker depending on because it's not a thing that's been trained anywhere it's just a a practice that people do I might get a reflection

093sheet back that says oh what did you do I don't know uh what what what what's I don't know nothing happened right um and the conversation I have with them might be okay man come on a minute you were talking or doing this do you promise not to do that and they're like yeah sure and then they come back in that's not a very great restorative P experience but it is one and if there was training and teachers were taught how to do this and guided through and there was some sort of established districtwide system it wouldn't because I agree with you I I agree if all the aps have to on the Fly for every single consequence come up with some it's not just the aps for this right or teacher teachers I am

094a strong supportive of you are given a discipline system here's the thing the consequence the restorative action here's the classroom managed Behavior here's the office managed behavior and you're right that whatever is classroom managed there needs to be some consideration of what is a disciplinary action versus what is just hey please don't do that or oh make sure you're paying attention make sure you're not interrupting me and maybe that's what I maybe that's just what I need to process to clarify because I just from how I read it and how it was first talked about what I heard was if a kid does something they're going to get an experience and I and I feel like that's going to I don't think that's quite how it has worked in the past right because like they

095do get the they get their own individual learning like they get a redirect and they get to like do it again or try it again are we going to put a restore on top of that or well this is why I really like that word discipline because I don't think we'd ever describe a redirect as a discipline action being redirected is not disciplinary I tell the kids all the time hey you're not in trouble I'm just telling you to to work right at the point someone's getting sent out of my room though that's disciplinary they're being removed from the clom environment for one reason or another yeah I I think I'm I'm I'm with you and I hear you once they're getting sent to another room I think that that is there is more gravity

096to it and there's more harm that's occurred so restorative experience makes sense for that here's what I'm going to say I have hesitations I'm comfortable moving on because I don't know if my hesitations are going to suddenly be resolved in the next five minutes and I don't want to take up our time on this I'd like to plant the seed for everybody once we get to like the requirements of a restorative experience are we going to have thresholds for when it's appropriate or when it's not or we going to say tit for tap if it happens this happens I I'm nervous about it but I think we could probably table it how does everyone else feel we can either I mean same thing with the four words we can come back back to it when

097everyone's had some more time to think about it and try to hash out some easier stuff or we can sit here until we got it solved but I think that is this is a pretty important paragraph for what we're trying to do yeah I mean I I agree it is a super important paragraph um and so I think yeah it's not something that's going to be come up with a solution here in five minutes but let's think about it and let's you know really go look at what is you know do some research what is restorative J as hell is it best applied in this situation and and yeah it does make sense what you're saying like you know if it's a little infraction spit out your gum does there need to be and how

098do we make it clear that what's what is Our intention and what should that cover yeah yeah um so I guess our next comment if we're all okay moving on and coming back to this I'm trying to encapsulate that in a sentence that can be remembered at a lat need tomorrow we need to we need to revisit this we need to revisit this paragraph to determine a shared meaning of those four words and and how much so then we need to we need we need to determine how we need determine when is a restorative experience obligated at what point and that probably has a lot to do with how we Define a restorative experience yeah when is a restorative experience OB experience because I know two weeks from now yeah I'm going to be like

099what are we talking about and the only thing I want to say I'm not saying I'm not tring to diminish the conversation it's just there's a lot of there's a lot of stuff the only thing I I will put out there without getting into the going down the rabbit hole of what restorative experiences are I think whatever those are they also need to be logical Equitable proportion yeah um and um Progressive may not quite apply in that situation but but they need to be logical Equitable and proportional to the violation so like even if chewing gum were a violation that required a restorative experience that's much that we're not talking about huge projects it's probably just an apology right and an acknowledgement that I violated the the community rules or expectations at that point anyway

100something to consider I was trying to I was trying to put that in my head what you guys were talking about and for me I the way I thought of it was like the tier one tier two tier three right a restorative practice or restorative experience however you want to Define it can happen at any of those tiers I would assume and if there's an obligation to that then tier one would be the obligation of the teacher right and then tier two could be a combination of the teacher and administration tier three would be fullon Administration I feel like there's a threshold somewhere embedded within those tiers um because I I I mean I don't want to speak for Adriana but I what what I was processing was just is it is it for the

101restorative experience is it even necessary to do something like that it may not be it may be just a consequence is necessary and don't do it again right because if you do that for every single thing then it's not going to be a problem but then I heard you talking about that's not really disciplined right that's just a rir but if there's if there's a like that's my thing is if there's a consequence involved a disciplinary action I mean I mean I don't know maybe the consequence is a phone call home the mom but then the restorative thing would just be I'm you know I'm sorry Mister it's not this whole big deal like as a classroom teacher I do a lot of hallway conversations apologies phone calls with parents those can all be if

102there's proper training and framing those can all be restorative I feel like the confusion is perception right it may be a redirect for you but for a student or a parent that could be disciplined well which is which is why I really dislike the word corrective apologies because a parent would say well this is corrective so it needs to be these four things where it's like hey I'm just giving you a heads up he's not disciplin your kid is still in class nothing has happened they're not being given a punishment I'm just saying hey that this is something that happened today please chat with them right okay so we can uh table this for right now in terms of the thing but I have down when is a restorative experience obligated in the process um

103we are at 6:30 are we cool doing another half an hour is that something that we're able to do I am able to stay so I'll defer to the group but I can there's no post I the C if I just say 6:30 so [Music] we decided you get to decide can Adam stay a little longer can Adam stay oh yeah go to the bathroom oh I'm sorry side if he used the restroom the bathroom um is it okay how do we feel about the word entitlements versus rights that's the next thing this might be a legal question entitlements makes me think of like benefits and rights you know kind of where at takes me to Federal yeah like Social Security or um where are you looking at the next comment down after the paragraph

104that we need to come back to so the following basic guidelines of and then Nicole put a comment saying rights or entitlements instead of Rights it's kind of like idea and like education federal law and all that that's where you see a lot of references to so do we feel like it would be unwise to have that word here why am I not seeing exactly it's in the next very beginning of the next paragraph oh there we are okay uh I just saw that as part of just the overall document itself because I mean that's essentially The Heading of the policy rights and responsibilities see I would interpret Ida to be be rights neily but there are entitlements with the grant is an entitle isn't entitling Grant well places to students are entitled because you

105have rights to the entitlement because of a certain like condition I'm just to me the difference is have to do a like a Judicial philosophy because this document is about right this section is about rights and responsibilities and we talk and right it's you have rights but with those rights come responsibilities and I think that like that's that's just that's just Civics that's just who we are as a society entitlements as well it's just not said explicitly so then we can I think we can move down the list and talk to Nicole about it make sure she's cool with us clearing that next thing is the sentence says the um diminish the legal authority of school officials blah blah blah deal with disruptive students James says suggested replace that with deal with disruptive behaviors and

106just it was more of a cosmetic word I just sounds less mean-spirited I tell the kids all the time you are not stupid maybe you made a stupid decision or this behavior is not very like respons I appreciate that idea of focusing on behavior and not the person the child it's just a softer word not a softer word do we feel we cool okaying that yeah he's good with it too he's being especially shy I don't know why what's going on today but um I Nicole um two things first thing with entitlements we talked about what an entitlement is and what a right is this policy is student rights and responsibilities and students have a right to certain entitlements and so anything that we would say they're entitled to are things that they would have

107a right to and so we want to keep the language consistent across the board because when entitlements could I think a lot of people that thinks they think of like Social Security or things like that okay yeah and again I was just looking at like I said in the lens of of avoiding any kind of prison talk or thing that could seem to to fall in that category so and then we changed the word disrup the governing board would deal with disruptive students to disruptive behaviors because it felt mean-spirited the next comment um I highlighted so students have the right to a meaningful academic education and social emotional learning again this I added the social emotional learning this is this is obligating a lot of Staff training Etc is not necessarily in place right now

108um because there's I mean I think if you looked at our school schedules not many of our schools is going to have social emotional learning blocked out in the day so as the person who wrote the comment I think that that is a big part though of like where we're trying to move towards and so it I think it needs to be included um and in thoughtfulness uh yes we would definitely have to like do like infrastructure wise discuss like where would we implement it but ultimately a lot of social emotional learning can be like integrated into what we have so I feel like we as of right now we can't say like no because our schedule doesn't have it we shouldn't have it so I votes very strongly that we keep it in there

109and we continue to move towards um all it can be rewarded in such a way so students have a right to a meaningful academic education that um that supports their social emotional well-being or something well social emotional learning is like a pretty like standard ter and it's actually that's under attack right now and it's something that I think the bo would Embrace and want to adopt as the actual language yeah I'm just saying in a way to word it so that people aren't looking at it and saying well you didn't fit that into the schedule or like you didn't your curriculum that's the question is you know I'm if I'm a teacher and a parent comes to me and is like oh well what's where's the social emotional learning and I'm like hey I don't

110yell at your kid I'm real nice I'm real I'm real gentle I used saw language I redirect proper technically that is education that supports their social emotional wellbeing I'm not sure so it's just um I think the more specific the language is the more actionable it is and how actionable because some things we need to acknowledge there's the sky is not the limit um and so if we want it to be actional this is good actionable language I'm just knowing my colleagues opinions on this and what they would hope the district is doing I think speaking on behalf of them without been asking them would hope that this is something okay that's part of what the equity team is doing um I just put I just made put a note to re to do a

111little rewarding on that if that might help with yeah we could we could also say a meaningful academic and social emotional education yeah I'm I'm okay with either I'm okay with either just do we want okay do we want if everyone's cool can we just keep the current language then yeah you [Music] good gonna close my notes I don't see any comments on that so I'm moving on um emotional safety okay I I am not against the spirit of this phrase because that's you know but however ever emotional and psychological safety is not something you can guarantee again this is grievable language if I say hey Jimmy I need you to stop throwing pencils at your friend and Jimmy runs home and tells mom and mom goes well you upset my child which jeopardized their

112emotional safety and therefore I'm going to file a grievance with the board that is something that although not likely to happen it's a pretty big vulnerability in that anyone could pretty much argue that anything is not meeting a student's right to emotional safety because emotions are internal there's no way to objectively determine what someone's emotions are what their psychological well-being is um yes yes this was my first step at emotional and ultimately what I was trying to get at is that the current policy was basically like our buildings will be clean and you won't break bones and I think there's more to a kid and so I am very much open to whatever but that was my attempt to just say that like it's not it's the person who it is and so whatever word

113we use that would suffice for me and I'm not sure what that wording is either but I do think that there's a a definite set of beh of behaviors that we're dealing with in our schools that do not fall under just physical safety or safe buildings that I think was the intent of dealing with the emotional and or the psychological when we talk about um racial upas and we talk about bullying like a lot of that is psychologically damaging harmful not physically harmful I really like psychological like wellbeing because I mean if I mean I don't don't need to be a psychologist to say being called like a racial slur is harmful to your psychological well-being right I psychological there that's something I was speaking to to a friend a principal like that's something she

114made very clear especially considering you know there's you know we have so many very different kind of students people from different backgrounds ethnicity these genders and all that and you know buling I like I like psychological yeah yeah and I think also with the psychological you can't necessarily prevent and protect from all harms but with the psychological you can help um try to repair or treat whatever harms have occurred in some way through supports and resources of the district after the fact as much as you're trying to prevent the Harms in the first place the um governing like are guiding like principles or whatnot they do bring up emotional wellbeing I'll be honest I just was like emotional wellbeing and physical safety seem done it I'll just put emotional but like would we feel good

115with psychological wellbeing yes and physical safety yes because I think psychological most encompasses emotional yes and we have school psychiatrists you know that theoretically could help a kid understand oh is this kids psychological well-being being violated you know well um if we're putting a term if we're putting a term into policy that requires one very highly trained specialized person to be able to Define we're probably missing the mark on writing the policy um but that said um I I I believe that there's enough generalization of psychological wellbeing for most of these behaviors that we're concerned about with i that would be violations I'm not sure that we need to about I think what I'm thinking of is that if there is this disagreement of well I think my child or a student I think my

116psychical well-being is harmed and you don't I think in the worst case scenario we have a highly trained staff member that would be able to look at a scenario where there's a disagreement and in 99% of scenarios it's GNA be obvious one way or the other right I would hope um yeah so good on psychological next from again sanitary facility students had questions regarding this because Mack has a two student rule for restroom use does right to sanitary facilities override individual School bathroom policies I mean can you explain what a two student rule it's basically so the like Middle School bathroom has two stalls so like from my classroom and there's six classrooms in the middle school so like the policy in the middle school is like two students can be out of my room

117at a time but I have yeah what I how I explain it to kids because they ask me this all the time I say you have a right to a bathroom you don't have a bath a right to a bathroom right this second right I mean it's like if there is for example the bathrooms are closed for cleaning we're not violating your rights by making you wait 30 minutes I have to wait 30 minutes oh I was thinking sanitary facilities not as in actually referring to the noun but as in the adjective as in the facilities are clean all of the facilities are clean yeah okay well I think that that is just like from a student perspective when they were asking me this I was kind of thinking the same thing they're reading it

118as like oh I have a right to get up whenever I want can we change that to clean I'm I I think how about safe and sanitary facilities and just kind of yeah let's go to thesaurus.com what Daniel said about the like I think in terms of the question that you're asking to the kids it is a right to a clean bathroom is ultimately what that is saying or a clean School a clean classroom you don't have like for example when I was in school we had roof rats we had mold we had like all kinds of things that were messed up not even just in the bathroom so like that's the issue the roof is falling apart the ceiling tile is falling on your head that's safe and we're talking about user friendly language

119yeah because I I think between safe buildings and clean facilities I think that encompasses pretty much everything so do we just want to say safe and clean facilities might be outside right facility is a building too though just safe and clean facilities buildings are facilities yep safe and clean facilities sounds good to me because facilities can also be sport yeah Facilities Management right they do it all wellbe physical I'm gon to say psychological well-being comma physical safety and safe and clean facilities can can we really can we split C into two different statements please being like we're talking about you and now we're talking about our property you want to split it yes please please to make two different Clauses so it's see is suggested we use the word prox I don't think we want

120to go the word somebody take the microphone away from Katie please someone Google that and just to let everybody know it's 6:45 we're chugging through as much as we can I think we're doing a great Pace right now so are we good withing C it's fine with me I'm going to leave it just in Cas refering um moving down to K students have the right I see no comments so I'm moving on B2 no comments next comment I added the word two to something not limited to behavior is that okay I mean make it grammatically correct whatever um Nicole you put a question mark on Mary does because it is theoretically possible for us to have married students in the school district for reals with parent permission just like a field trip yipp child child

121marriage is legal in a number of states in the United States we could have eighth graders Who are 16 or I are there any states if there's a state younger than 16 they might get married out of state and then come here get hitched in Vegas yeah we're not we're not here to write policy on on people's personal that is uh I think this is in language because traditionally marriage in the past historically has denoted some level of like property ownership by the husband of the wife and so this is in policy I'm guessing because at some point someone said well they're my wife I get tell them what to do you can't so this says no regardless of your marital status you are entitled all the same rights yes might have married students so

122but even then even with that c it's still outdated obviously because even if you're a married high school student your husband can't come in and tell the principal that you will not be abiding by the rules of the school that's not going to work well but Katie I mean theoretically the husband could come in and say I need you to discipline my partner or whatever yeah but under Arizona law I don't know that that would be acceptable I don't think it's I think it's a wow under the 14th Amendment it's not going to work under the Constitution of the United States equal protection sorry I was like what I I I'm aware of situations where husbands for some reason have for example like medical rights over their spouses um doctors asking for husbands permissions for

123particular medical procedures is like a very common example yeah if the patient is unable to provide their own that is not what I'm talking about okay I think anyway moving on I think we should I think we should leave it in that's my point I wanna roll up real quick and this is a question for you guys but just to explain we do have a lot of things that come up with families about the right to know how other kids are impacting their student and so I wondered if we could include something in here that kind of actually says like because kids have this right you do get limited rights to those kids information let me give you let me speak at let me speak in examples kids get in a fight and the parent

124wants to see the other kid's statement and they want to know the other kid like well how many times has that kid gotten in a fight before and there's a lot of push back from parents when we try to explain that like fura doesn't allow us to to share information about their students and that in some ways know that the discipline occurred and unfortunately we can't tell you they got four days because that's in their domain of privacy I don't know if this is where it goes but I know it's a continual question that comes up with that it would be helpful provide them something that question where are you at up to G so I mean if we if we go up to G I mean if we added might be questions for you

125if we added the word only so like legal guardians or authorized representatives only have the right to see the personnel file commun folders or transcripts of their children under the age of 18 years old that could make it a little more clear I I know that I was kind of addressing say only there what what do you want the policy to be able to allow you to do is what I'm ask is what I'm curious to know to know that we're not we're not attempting to like gatekeep from them about the other kids but that it it goes both ways right like people want people want privacy for their student and they don't want their kids information just like shared willy-nilly but when it when they feel like the information impacts their kids then they

126want access to it and it's really hard to negotiate with them when you not negotiate it's really hard to express that so I was basically kind of like let's find a support in no I'm I'm sorry so you're looking for support for us actually following furpa it sounds like you need a districtwide consumable parents guide to fura that you can easily pass out that's like a one sheer or a two sheer here but that was I added the word only to make it a little more clear that they only have rights to their children only children only personally but or or maybe if we just kind of flip the words around as um students have the right to maintain or privacy of their personal files blah blah blah to only be shared with their legal

127Guardians and authorized representatives something like that so then it's um I'm just gonna put something in the folder that I just found that seems pretty cool it's a US Department of Education two page it's like a brochure that's pretty clear about a parents guide to fura and then one of the things is who else gets to see my child's education like records yeah yeah all that stuff and that might and that that probably would suffice I just know that like if we were just it just seems to come up as a problem for sure imagine okay I mean I get it I'm over here like what's the codefendant ple offer yeah yeah and then I'm like how many priors do they have what did they do this isn't fair [Laughter] um it sounds like a

128one sheeter on hand for for the principles assistant principles would be helpful so when the parents are coming at you be like you know I'm sorry where hands are tied because of this law but here this explains it yeah yeah and I genuinely I I genuinely believe that they they I just don't want them to think that we're being sneaky so if there's a way we can just um policies I totally get it I know what you mean but I can't I'm sorry do we do we want to stick on this and find something stronger than only or do we want to move on Okay so my next comment is um there was language in here it says students have the responsibility to exercise self-discipline to the best of their social and cognitive abilities in

129observing and adhering to school rules and regulations 100% agree with cognitive um do we agree that there's a difference between like a what we'd call a learning disability which would be reference to cognitive disabilities and a lack of social skills um because what happens when students do not have the social ability to exercise self-discipline at all just because the kid's really rude and mean and doesn't have any social skills that doesn't necessar they just they don't have the responsibility yeah Daniel where are you A2 bottom of page A2 sorry so let me let me give you an idea of what I was trying to say there and then that might help what I was trying to do is say that like a Kinder Gardener has a black and white idea of like what they're allowed

130to do where a fifth grader has like a Nuance of like the gray and so when I put social I was more talking about like their social like their Social Development um I would I would be very supportive of Social Development so yeah people that are Nur diverent as well then that's that's what I was trying to get at so okay maybe if that's tacked on at the end so students have the responsibility to exercise sorry I just lost the spot um Social Development um I think Social Development to observe and adhere to school rules and regulations to the best of their social and cognitive blah blah blah you thinking moving it like this oh yeah yeah so putting that last part I think that's kind spit don't split our infinitive I guess is what

131we're trying to do that word in a long time I like that not sure how I pulled it out yeah did put two Ops a above that [Music] I sorry I did this like several weeks ago I'm trying to make sure because we have a I have like an A and an or you're saying to the best of you said to the best of their social and cognitive development and delete what did you say to do so students have the responsibility to to observe and adhere to school rules and regulations do the best of their um yeah like yeah the so you want to delete exercise self-discipline oh but you you want to keep that in no I think I guess I thought it was crossed off no I I didn't delete Words students have

132the responsibility to exercise self dispos yeah yeah and now I realize um sorry in the in the a or or that's right it it was a and A2 were all together and I was like this is confusing to me so then I made an a with two options and an A2 that we just finished so we finished the A2 but technically the A and the or was an additional part we current we you've had in there and we do need to make a decision on that part um I like a I do not like the or a collaborative learner is not imagine getting a grievance on your desk and because someone's not being a collaborative learner that doesn't you know I don't think that's and and those were just those are um District those were

133the district guiding principles so I put it in there because I was trying to tie things together but I'm absolutely IND different to a or or I just want to make sure you guys know we so we are an indifference and we are a vote for a I'm also a vote for a great I prefer a as well okay um I'm resolving this James asks is this true students will be held financially oh this is a great question students will be held financially responsible for any loss or intentional damage caused to school property is this true so this is D so can we change can we change will to may this is I mean there's a couple different layers to this right so like the the there's a district answer to this and then there's

134a legal answer to this so depending on the extent to which they were disciplined and if that extent extended to the delinquency system or the actual charged as an adult system depending on their age um there's a possibility that that then would be out of our hands and restitution could be a thing that it doesn't matter um that could be ordered the district on the other hand for internal things that aren't farmed out would have a the ability to decide whether or not they're I don't know what way you would enforce this as a district but are certain challenges at times of enfor really simple examples we had a student who intentionally shattered a school window and we ask the family to help to the best of their ability to pay for the replacement of

135that window um another the most common example um and Tim may be able to help us out with this is iPads so very often if a if like you have a broken screen we just replace it but if you have a student who's like on their fifth broken screen that starts to feel like it's intentional breakage of the device then we do ask the the students family to participate in the cost to have that device repair can we change will to May then yeah I think I think May would be more in alignment with what actually occurs if that makes sense all right I'm adding may I got rid of will I'm gonna resolve the comment um and then we are on the glossery which feels put a um put a note in here that

136was me you can't see it because it was before we started doing comments oh my bad that it was me well that I that highlighted so I would like to see a date of adoption on regulations we already have them on policies as we move forward because I think it is good so regulations are not adopted but we could we could we could include a date like a date added or effective yeah date of review review is the actual legal I reviewed adopted whatever because and then then that gives you no insight into was this even was this done before the policy was made was it done after the policy was made never get updated when the policy Chang are we talking pre1 14th Amendment marriage or post 14th yeah see what you mean I

137would be super supportive of a data review being added I I have one more question and we can wait but I was let you know I Chang oh sorry um I think that it would be I just want to make sure we have consensus on B and B2 because I I did quite a bit of changing of that if if you look at used to say students have the responsibility to um maximum advantage of their educational opportunities to seek a meaningful education and I I separated them into a B1 where it was like let's just talk about academics and then a second one that was like let's talk about your extracurriculars um because I felt like they were different like I really liked this change so I just want to make sure everybody knows because

138I don't want to do anything I'm super supportive of this and I think it's a really clearly communicated thing that tells everyone what hey it's you have a responsibility to seek out and try to find what's right for you okay perfect I just want to make sure because kind added something can we take five minutes to wrap up and talk about what we want to do next time so we are aware of what to do between now and then cool so so wait are you still reading B1 B2 Alan so I I just have a broad comment in this responsibility section and we were talking about it um a little and we hit it in um we were talking about in A2 like Social Development and cognitive abilities and I think talk about some of

139these responsibil ities um and I I know in the Practical world it's like a no duh but to acknowledge that some of these respon like the ones we just read we've got students who are not cognitively and developmentally capable of doing this so what does that mean in terms of responsibility and so I'm not sure how to address that and something we we can just sit on for right now and maybe it's just a caveat to the following responsibilities you know apply based on I maybe it's a preamble to to this list or something yeah um it's kind of where we we kind of like we put that like part here where it was like rights we kind of were like what are we saying are rights but we need to this has to be

140fleshed out in the final product so so thank you for acknowledging my facial expression as I was reading the bees because that's my that was the thinging was going but wait a second yeah yeah not every student can live up to that responsibility so it sounds like we need to next time we need to review the the the the important paragraph I I think in the meantime someone or several someone should probably work on a glossery that we can improve rather than writing it at the next meeting that seems really intensive um and consider how we can include the cognitive and like social abilities of our students um Social Development last room is going to be for the entire J section we did so it's something that I think we're going to continuously work on

141so then and then we I think we talked last time we said we the next policy we want to do is going to be student con or student dress I don't I don't recall but we were gonna try to get the big ones out of the way I think I thought we were just going down the list I don't know oh there was some comments about oh before you got here the first meeting we were going to go like the biggest hardest ones out of the way okay and but first we had to do these kind of introductory so this is ji I mean obviously JK is g to take a lot of well actually I mean yeah there's some I mean some of these are going to take some time might take some time

142so what do we want to do next I mean j i are a student dress is going to have I think comments potentially anticipated my people okay so I got two pools of thought if we do student dress it might it might be beneficial to student dress because it might be more of like a call to get information from parents it' be good to kind of wrap it up so it's ready to go for community council so I lean towards that but I will say um the like I feel like JK is kind of like our meat and potatoes and that one so JK like the ones that are going to take a lot of time and preparation for me are going to be JK JK let let's do them early then jih like those

143like student dress isn't going to have as much prep for because it's more it's less legal stuff and more then do do want do we want to get feedback from families before we were consun dress and then we can just go ahead and just start on the JK since it's got like since it's Medi and legal so those are that's where how I'm weighing it when does parent Fe come in before we begin so we should wait or let's give them something to kind of critique let's do it now to get it out of the way well I think one parents are welcome to listen come to these meetings and give us feedback at any point but I think the the most convenient way for everyone would be to build something show it at Community

144Council and if they all hate it then they're gonna let us know right yeah so maybe get out reminders that this is going on people can leave comments or email Hilda just make sure that that's so like maybe put out the feelers that that meeting is going to happen on a specific day so if you already know like get your if you have comments about student address policy email Hilda or sign public email held it by the state because it's going to be happening at this meeting or whatever so I hear your vote is option two give them something to critique let's do it let's do that one first what are you thinking and different yeah what are you suggesting that we're doing there there's two options we either let's do student dress first let's

145do that one next so that way we have something for families to critique technically called that option too but I'm officially call it option one right now or we do option two which is let's hear what they have to say and then maybe that will help us kind of build this together if you for Community Council you'll have a very short window of time to get through well although thankfully I think dress code is the thing that I like it's rocket science we could figure something out in a short period of time and I I would say like I would you know it's one thing it's just hard to to get like a an a fair like reading of things out like you know like what effort is being put in who are we hearing

146from I think if we just make sure we're trying to let people know this is the day that we're going to talk about this this is how you can provide your comments be you know so that we can take those into consideration while we're considering it and then you'll have another opportunity to critique what the thing is at the community council yeah I think if we get some feedback first then we're not stuck later like oh man now we got to redo it oh I'm not saying that I'm saying like tell everybody the pathway to come to this meeting and watch it and come in person and provide feedback or email Hilda with public comment I would also say for our principes out there um parent teacher conferences is a great time to survey your

147parents about how they feel about the dress code our middle school did that at Gateway the parents I mean almost to my surprise a little bit the parents overwhelmingly voted that no that's dress code is not really a priority for us you then the principal could email that information to Hilda prior to the meeting as a public comment everybody's entitled to give a public comment you are a person even if it was like 20 families or whatever right that's more information than 20 families is quite a lot if you consider that you know we only get four or five public comments sometimes but I hear you too saying is let's allow everybody know that we're g to work on the student dress code and these are the methods you can give to give your information

148prior to us doing that so that we will have it ready for them to see a thing of changes and critique that later Y which does seem to go counter to what you said Nicole so how do you feel about if we did do that no I think that's that kind of fits that call is already out us one other thing that I know isn't on this list that I noticed that exists is the jic um which is student bullying harassment and intimidation that needs to be on there and we haven't put it on the list and I know it's hard to add more things but I think it's important there were other ones that weren't included on this list like tobacco use drug and alcohol use weapons those are very like there's not a

149lot we can change there dating abuse I mean so like the Stu it's jic student bullying harassment and intimidation I think CK so I think that one is probably one that we would probably need to review because that sounds like it's something that's important to everyone at the table here and to clarify the conversation we're deciding either student dress or student discipline to be working on next and it seems like we're doing student dress first before student discipline I hear two strong candidates for that and you got three of us that are like cool so yes but is there anyone be more in favor of the discipline yeah I feel like yeah I was saying oh let's do student discipline next but let's say okay next meeting is 1:30 we're doing student discipline we're either

150going to do we pick the date that we're for sure going to talk out student address so that people can be like we are talking about student dress on this day if you want to comment you need to make sure you comment on this day that no they don't need to comment the day we do the dress code for public comment is what I'm saying if they have an opinion already I mean no I mean my thing is if next meeting someone shows up and gives a comment about student dress code I'm not a goldfish I'm but like if they want to give it before we make any considerations is what I'm trying to say yeah you're oh yeah I like before we make any changes to the poliy I think I got it let's

151post up and tell everybody that in two meetings from now the February 2nd we will be discussing dress code if they'd like to give pre comments yeah right 25 is that something I need to write down or is that something Hilda needs to write down who's to say I would you can write it down I mean hild is not the one that's got us you know sharing any information so I mean basically people know that we would be covering this on the 15th I can say it at the next board meeting as well um sounds like something Hilda should write down okay one thing I will say right now though so if we're going to do JK at the next meeting it is you know very heavy for me to review and provide information to

152you all before you guys start going through it so what I'm going to do is request that I be given a little like is it bad if I request a certain amount of time and then after that certain date you then would all be permitted to start going in there and making comments a after I've been had after I've had time to like put in explanations and highlights and things I to be honest I for me I'm like oh it's Tuesday what am I doing so if you just did this till Tuesday and I know next Tuesday I got to start okay I was going to ask could I have till the 23rd to like go through this put it in a Google doc and then give all the highlights and Legal Information because it's

153very heavy with legal stuff works for me okay well you just shoot us an email that you've done that that way because iate my bad okay so I just okay a suggestion maybe that the official editing document that maybe Hilda doesn't post it in the drive until after you've gone through it um no that's okay I'm going to post in the drive I'm going to is it okay if I just post it in the drive right now because I was going to start Drive is yeah no that's fine because whatever I say isn't private information it's just me explaining all the legalities that are in there so that you because if you all went in and wasted your time and said I want to get rid of this and I say too bad we can't

154then you've just wasted your time so what I'm going to go through and tell you is this can't be deleted this can't be changed this has to stay the same so that then when you start on the 23rd you can only take a look at what could be changed I can also put some things in there like this can't be deleted consider this if you would like to add something or an alternative you know what I mean like I will try to think in that way as well if it's something I could anticipate you all not being fans of maybe right so my suggestion was like once you finish that process post it in the drive and then we can go to town on it as a I was just going to have it live

155in the drive already because I don't want to lose it or have it in two different places so I can just do it in the drive and then when I when it's ready I'll email you and say I've finished it's in the you know whatever's in the drive now is is done if that's okay yeah okay better if you send to the committee let's say you send it out multiple people respond keep yeah you could just BCC everybody yeah yeah that's fine okay I can do that either one is fine I'm just going to add the thing now the file now so you're putting it in there we'll hear from Hilda when we're to go and see it um but we just gentle person's agreement we're not going to bother looking for it till after

156the 23rd thank you yes that's really the concern I have JK and then next would be j i c a r a student dress right I think yeah and then and then just to be very clear the folder we're working in is governing board policy team go to or no go to Shared drives shared drives governing board policy committee yeah I'm going to delete that one okay that was what was confusing me I left it in case people were like this is the only place I know where to look I had like a random doc that was like go here instead what I don't see when I'm in the share Drive is how to I how that's new it's right here but where can I add where can I oh I guess I would start

157my new document but oh then I could still folder upload there sorry I never use Google Docs y'all and Google Docs was not a thing when I was in school um okay here we go go back to Gover your tab right here and refresh and see if it shows up yeah and then that way sweet all right okay cool awesome when we're looking at jk Are we including JKR EA EB and eec huh sorry there's one regulation and three exhibits related to jk Are we are you including that in the documents that we're yeah I'll put all I'll drop all these in there okay cool and and then do we need to ask the board to add that one that you just the bullying one because last time we had to ask them to add

158other one well we actually didn't have to ask them because it says any other policies that may be where does it say this other policies that might cross reference these policies listed below might be reviewed for recommended changes okay and if it's helpful to you hila I can email Emily and just ask her to put in the leadership links for next Tuesday that um we probably would like to have principal start thinking about how they'll gather drco data is that does that help you okay I'll do that when I don't have my cool we done so I'm do we need to end the meeting with a vote no yeah can yeah sorry second uh okay I just want to make sure I didn't leave anything else off okay uh all those in favor I meeting
